Biomass Pallets.pptx
1. What is mean by Fuel
A fuel is any material that can be made to react
with other substances so that it releases energy
as thermal energy or to be used for work. The
concept was originally applied solely to those
materials capable of releasing chemical energy
but has since also been applied to other sources
of heat energy such as nuclear energy
2. Types of Fuel
• Non Renewable energy Fuels :- Coal, Furnace Oil ,LPG,CNG.
( This fuel will end one day)
• Renewable Energy Fuels :- Biomass, Briquettes,Pallets
( This fuel is generated by agro waste)
3. Introduction
• Boilers/furnaces are being used for more than 400 years now
to produce water, steam, or heat in multiple industries
• The primary heat source i.e. fuel used for running the
furnaces/boilers in industries is heavy oil, light oil, gas
- Coal is used but mainly by thermal power plants
• In India, the boilers are regulated by Indian Boilers
Regulations, 1950
– Under this regulations, all the boilers are required to be
inspected and certified by the person authorized under
these regulations
4. Introduction

• Biomass pallets
8. Introduction
• With the growing competition in industry, cost efficiency is of utmost
importance
• Increased awareness about sustainable and environment friendly
solutions and energy efficiency solutions
• Biomass fired boilers and furnaces have started gaining momentum
• For companies with existing oil or gas fired boilers/furnaces, it may not be
feasible to invest on new boilers/furnaces unless and until there is an
expansion plan
• Considering this challenge for existing companies, Energy Dynamics has
come up with an alternative for existing companies with the following
objectives:
– Cost reduction thereby leading to higher profits
– Minimal investment in making changes to the existing boilers/furnaces
for implementation
– Sustainability i.e. use of clean and green source of energy thereby
reducing the carbon footprint of the company
9. Value Proposition
• We understand that your company has boilers/furnaces which are fired by oil
or gas
• Energy Dynamics proposes to take the contract for running the boiler/furnace
for your company whereby the following would be the way forward:
– The company would need to invest a small amount of about INR 2-3 lacs in
purchasing an assembly which would make the boiler/furnace compatible to
run using biomass pellets – Energy Dynamics would assist the company in this
– Energy Dynamics would use biomass pellets for firing the boiler/furnace
– Energy Dynamics would ensure that there are cost savings to the company in
this process
• Energy Dynamics would make sure the following:
– Seamless running of the business operations
– Energy efficiency
– Cost efficiency

JSW Power 1200 MW
Adani Mumbai 600 MW
Wardha Power 540 MW
Dhariwal Power 600 MW
Tata Power 980 MW
Total Power Generation in Private sector =11500 MW
13. Total Power generation in Maharastra
• By MAHAGENCO = 11100 MW
• By NTPC = 3640 MW
• By Pvt. Party = 11500 MW
Total = 26400 MW
14. Coal Required/Day for big size power
plant
Total Power generated/Day =26400 MW
Coal required/MW =0.87 ton
Coal Required/Hr =0.87*26400*0.75=17000TPH
Coal Required/Day =17000*20= 3,40,000 TPD
If we consider 5% Renewable fuel(Pallets) then
total requirement of Biomass Pallets is
=340000*5%=17000 TPD
15. Drawback of coal
Higher sulphur % which decrease life of boiler
Emmission of co2 is more
Moisture % is more ( Approximate 25%)
Ash % is more than 20%
Not available in all area so transport cost is
higher
Ash disposal is serious issue.
16. Adventages of Pallets
• Sulphur % is low so corrosion is less
• CO2 emission is very low
• Will generates employments by making pallets
• Will make pallets near by Power generation unit
so transport cost is very low
• Moisture % is very low ( below 5%)
• Ash % is very low ( Below 5%)
• Ash is used as soil impurity again
• Also farmers can get extra income by selling Agro
waste/Bamboo
17. Use of Pallets in steel Industry
• In Jalna there are 2 types of steel industry in which
1 scrap is melted and pour this liquid in mould for this they
are using Induction Heating system( 60%)
2 cold billates are reheated to make different types of steel
in which they are using coal as fuel.
In 2 process we can replace coal by Biomass pallets. In jalna
steel industry approximate 400 ton coal is required to
reheat the steel that can be completed replaced by pallets
in that case 400 Ton bamboo may be used as raw material
for making pallets. if we 50 ton raw material/acre then we
required8 acres bamboo per day means 3000 Acres
bamboo only for Jalna Steel industry only
18. Use of Pallets in Cremation ground
• In Cremation ground we are using wood as
fuel for burning the body. For one body
approximate we are using 300 to 400 kg of
wood and diesel . If we use biomass pallets
then we can burn one body in 60 to 80 kg
biomass pallets and it will take only 20 to 25
min to burnt full body. ( In maharashtra
approximate more than 1000 ton wood is
required per day to burnt body if we use
pallets we can save 1000 ton tree per day)
19. How to use biomass pallets in industry
In industry we can use pallets directly to AFBC as
well biomass fired boiler but for Furnace oil as
well as for Gas fired boilers we have to use
pallet Burner who convert solid form to
Gaseous form.
Also for making producer gas we can use pallets
with burner for making producer gas.
20. Substitute fuel for furnace oil in
industry
• In some industry nearby Mumbai they have low
space for boiler as well as storage of fuel so they
are using furnace oil fired boilers as it requires
low area but if we use pallets we can run that
furnace oil boilers with pallet fire but we have to
use pallets burners which converts solid in to
gaseous form and requires only 20 feet* 20 feet
extra area for conversion and fuel storage. Also
we can save approximate 50% fuel cost. ( in
nearby Mumbai app. 2000 boiler are available)
21. About Energy Dynamics
• Energy Dynamics is into the business of manufacturing
biomass fuel pellets which is an alternative to non-
renewable sources of energy like oil, gas, coal etc.
• The people behind Energy Dynamics have an extensive
experience of dealing in industrial boilers, furnaces and the
fuels required in these boilers/furnaces i.e. oil, gas, coal etc
• Considering the non-renewable nature of oil, gas, coal and
other resources, Energy Dynamics had been experimenting
with the ideas of manufacturing biomass briquettes and
pellets for multiple years now
• Energy Dynamics is a firm believer of sustainability and is
sure that alternative sources of energy is the future
22. Way forward
• Energy Dynamics to inspect the boilers/furnaces currently used by the
company
• Energy Dynamics to understand the technicalities and specifications along
with the requirements from the boiler/furnace in detail
• Energy Dynamics to come up with the final cost benefit analysis and
savings to the company along with the final proposition from its side
• The company to outsource the operation of its boiler/furnace to Energy
Dynamics upon satisfaction:
– Energy Dynamics shall be happy to run the boiler/furnace on a trial/pilot basis
to prove the concept and savings to the company
