The Story Of A Woman Essay
A woman is standing in her kitchen, cooking dinner for her husband and her three children. She has
many things on her mind other than food: her children, her health, her life. During her distraction, the
bread that she had put in the oven to toast begins to burn and it smells of smoke in the kitchen. She
desperately pulls the pan out of the oven and begins to fan the bread, hoping that her husband in the
living room does not smell it. Her husband enters the kitchen, smells the remnants of the smoke, and
walks slowly over to her. She uses her body to shield the seared bread while realizing that the relief
she just felt is gone. Her husband asks what happened and she opens her mouth to answer...when he
smacks her across the face. Can you ever do anything right?! he yells. The children glance in through
the open door, then scatter when they see their mom s wide eyed expression. The bruise begins to
form already and the scar tissue around her broken heart opens back up again. This, unfortunately, is a
reality for many women around the world, especially in the United States. They live in fear every day,
wondering if today is the day that their spouse will end their lives. Others endure endless verbal abuse,
killing their self esteem and their will to live. Domestic violence is an epidemic that is on the rise
around the world. We must come together and propose a solution to help women feel safe and secure
in their homes and in their relationships. Per the National Coalition

One such law is the federal law that was passed in 1990 is the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA).
The law ensures the right of individuals with disabilities to nondiscriminatory treatment in other
aspects of their lives (Hallahan, Kauffman, Pullen, 2015). Certain provisions were made within the
law for day care providers. The provisions are listed as: It is illegal to charge parents more for the care
of a disabled child, or to discriminate. ADA requires you to make reasonable modifications in policies.
Create practices and procedures within your child care program to accommodate individuals with
disabilities. Modification to your program is not required if it would fundamentally alter the goods or
services you provide in your child

Implementing An Effective Change Management Program Essay
The current CIO of the CareGroup, John Halamka, recently completed a proposal to the Board of
Directors and has been charged to provide additional information regarding his plan to implement an
effective change management program as well as effective Business Continuity Management program.
Team 5, Mr. Halamka s top staff members, has been asked to provide further analysis and refined
recommendations to the board of directors to ensure they fully understand all the options available as
the organization implements organization change. After thorough analysis and review the Team is
prepared to make its recommendations.
1. Implement an effective change management program
Why is change management important to Mr. Halamka and in the end the Board of directors?
Change management is essential to an organization in order to maintain consistent operations and be
stable through shifting environmental conditions, a well defined program and controlled process will
conclude with the optimal handling of these changes. Team 5 endorses the change management
process outlined in COBIT 5 section BAI07 which supports the achievement of a set of primary IT
related goals.
Emphasize implementation planning and communication:
Effective change management will have controls in place to mitigate unnecessary risk during the
implementation phase of the operation. There will be clearly defined and separate roles assigned to all
key players involved to eliminate duplication of effort and wasted

According to the first section of the poem, a bundle of Hollow Men are inclining together like
scarecrows. Every little thing about them is as dry as the Sahara Desert, including their voices and

excessively bashful and weak, making it impossible to confer the brutal demonstrations that would

Effective Use Of Connotation In Tony Blair s Speech
The British Prime Minister, Tony Blair, in his speech, about September 11, 2001, demonstrated to the
American citizens to learn from tragedy. Blair s purpose is to acknowledge the universal values that
are primarily needed in the world we live upon. Blair s speech was effective in persuading Americans
to learn from the tragedy, 9/11, that happened because the way he used connotation, pathos, and
anaphora. To begin, Blair uses connotation in his speech to show his positive or negative view. In this
case he is being positive for example he says ...we are trying to create a better world (2). Better is a
positive word along other words like maximises and more also in the second paragraph. His purpose
was to have the readers think on the positive side of view and not in the negative. Therefore, with
connotation he gives positive ideas, and a positive mindset to his readers. ... Show more content on

The World is Too Much With Us by William Wordsworth Essay
The World is Too Much With Us by William Wordsworth
In William Wordsworth s The World is Too Much With Us, this poem heeds warning to his generation.
This warning is that they are losing sight of what is actually important in this world: nature and God.
To some people both of these are the same thing ...as if lacking appreciation for the natural gifts of
God is not sin enough, we add to it the insult of pride for our rape of His land (Wordsworth). With his
words, Wordsworth makes this message perpetual and everlasting. William Wordsworth loved nature
and based many of his poems on it. He uses very strong diction to get his point and feelings across.
This poem expresses Wordsworth s feeling about nature and religion containing a ... Show more

Little we see in Nature that is ours; (3) Wordsworth is expressing that nature is not a commodity to be
exploited by humans, but should coexist with humanity, and We have given our hearts away, a sordid
boon (4)! he pronounces that in our materialistic lifestyles, nothing is meaningful anymore. He says
that even when the sea bares her bosom to the moon (5) and the winds howl, humanity is still out of
tune. These lines (5 7) suggest that nature is helpless and unknown to the destruction man is doing.
For this, for everything, we are out of tune; (8) proposes that even in the spectacle of a storm, human
beings (adults) look on uncaringly implying that we, humans, don t realize the damage we are
inflicting on helpless nature (Wordsworth). The symbolism created by the images and metaphors
represent Wordsworth s deep passion about the conflict between nature and modern progress. Images
and metaphors alluding to mankind s greed, nature s innocence, and the speaker s rejection of
accepted principles all serve to illustrate the speaker s passion to save his generation (Gill).
The final part, the sestet, Wordsworth wishes that he were a pagan (a heathen) raised according to a
different vision of the world, so that, standing on this pleasant lea (Nicholas), he might see images of

The Crucible And Breaker Morant Analysis
The tales of Arthur Miller s The Crucible and Bruce Beresford s Breaker Morant while appearing
vastly different at a glance; share many common themes. These include scapegoats, trials and revenge.
In The Crucible the antagonist, Abigail, is depicted as a spiteful and vengeful character that will stop
at no end to gain the satisfaction of revenge through destructive means. Good Putnam is portrayed as a
revenge driven character from The Crucible . In the movie of Breaker Morant , the protagonist of the
story, Harry Morant, vows to avenge his fallen friend and comrade Captain Hunt.
Throughout The Crucible the audience witnesses the torment, backstabbing and spiteful nature of
Abigail Williams, previous servant girl of the Proctor ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The spiteful and envious actions of Goody Putnam, resulted in Rebecca s death. I have this morning
signed away the soul of Rebecca Nurse . In Goody Putnam s search for an excuse and reason for her
deceased children. The willingness of Mrs Putnam to accuse Rebecca is influenced by the mass
accusations from the citizens of Salem as many of them attempt to receive more property. Vengeance
is walking Salem . In doing so she allows her truthfulness, judgement and morality to be clouded and
disturbed by desire for revenge.
The movie of Breaker Morant portrays the struggle of Harry Breaker as he seeks vengeance for his
dear friend Captain Hunt who was killed and mutilated in an ambush by Boer commandos. I say
avenge Captain Hunt . The bushveldt carbineers, a group a soldiers in the English empire tasked with
fighting in a similar manner to the Boer commandos that receive the majority of orders being given off

rode another couple of days... hardly ever stopped . This shows that Morant s frenzied craving for
revenge against the Boer soldiers was due to his clouded judgement. Upon the discovery of a Boer
man that was sporting the stolen jacket of Hunt, Morant beings outraged. He views the swaddling of
Hunts jacket as a sign of disrespect and dishonour to a man that Morant held in the highest regard.

Essay on Differences between Lives in Solingen and Phoenix
Differences between Lives in Solingen and Phoenix
As I arrived at Phoenix in September of 1999, I was very excited to see this famous city and it s
country and to get to know everything about it. But with the time I realized that Phoenix is not more
different than my town in Germany, Solingen. It s a not a big city but it is a very beautiful one with
many small streets and small houses around them. I had even the impression that the life in Germany
was more exciting than in Phoenix. Now I m living in Phoenix for over one year and I can say now
that there are many differences between those two countries which had a big influence at our further
lives. I m talking about differences which you can t notice if you go there for a ... Show more content

the stores or places where you could have go out were pretty far away from our apartment. Mostly I
needed a car to go out somewhere. The buses are stationed only on few places and they arrive in very
long intervals. So after a time, we realized that we had to buy a car. In contrast to Phoenix, during our
time in Solingen, we used the car mostly for longer trips. The whole city was connected with bus lines
and they were coming to the bus stations every ten minutes. If we had to go somewhere in the city, we
used mostly the buses. We saved our gas money and were there always on time.
While in Phoenix you have problems to find the time to go out with your friends, in Solingen, I was
most of the time able to plan something at a short time. Every day after the school, I went to the
downtown of Solingen with some friends or alone and we were walking through the streets full of
stores and joking around. I did this almost every day in the week. On the weekends there were many
places to go out with friends like many clubs and cafe s in Solingen or in the bigger towns next to us
like Dusseldorf or Cologne. This cities are famous for their streets to go out there and have a good
time. People from all West Germany came over to these streets to have fun. So it was never boring
even in a small town like Solingen. I could always do something if I was bored.
A another good example thing that verifies the deference between these unlike cities is having a job.

Why Do We Celebrate Columbus Day
In the U.S and most Latin American countries, Christopher Columbus has been portrayed as a symbol
of heroism because of his discovery of the Americas. Thus, many countries have proclaimed
Columbus Day as a national holiday to celebrate the anniversary of Columbus s arrival to the
Americas in 1492. However, in the U.S, Columbus Day started as a celebration of the Italian
American heritage and in 1937; however, President Franklin D. Roosevelt proclaimed Columbus Day
a federal holiday after intense lobbying by a Catholic service organization consisting largely of Italian
Americans (Phillips, 2016). Particularly most of the Italian American communities celebrate their
heritage in Columbus Day.
Nevertheless, for most Italian Americans, Christopher ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It also gives a completely wrong impression to say that Columbus discovered America; as Indigenous
people, we often say that he invaded America (Mitchell,2017). Another point to mention is that
Christopher Columbus never discovered America. There is historical evidence that suggests that
Vinkings explorers landed in the Americas before Columbus, The Vikings early expeditions to North
America are well documented and accepted as historical fact by most scholars. Around the year 1000
A.D., the Viking explorer Leif Erikson, son of Erik the Red, sailed to a place he called Vinland, in
what is now the Canadian province of Newfoundland (Weiner, 2007). However, despite the historical
evidence that there may be nothing honor about Columbus, in many countries, he continues to be
portrayed as a hero who discovered America. Also, many history books around the world continues
giving him credit for discovering

Membranes Case Study
GO has also been mixed with the polymeric matrix to fabricate different nanocomposite membranes,
such as polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) MF/UF [141,224,225], polyether sulfone (PES) NF
membranes [226] and PSf [162]. One of the main drawbacks of the blending technique is the absence
of GO direct exposure to foulants, which restricts the interaction between foulants and GO.
Accordingly, the superior GO features, in terms of antifouling, will not be entirely exploited. The
direct deposition of GO nanosheets on the membrane surface is a more effective technique for fouling
control, hence the GO/foulants interaction can be maximized. The exceptional structure of GO confers
a considerably greater contact area for the convenient interaction ... Show more content on

The employment of GO leads to the production of small, uniform, stable and distributed AgNPs in
addition to improved silver loading and ion release control. Several applicable and effective
techniques for the fabrication of freestanding ultrathin rGO membranes were reported. One of these
techniques was exemplified by Liu et al [220], in which a reinforced GO membrane was shaped on a
mixed cellulose ester (MCE) filter through the filteration of diluted GO dispersion. The formed
GO/MCE membrane was then positioned over a hydriodic acid solution, where the GO membrane
rapidly changed to a black colour, confirming the reduction of GO to rGO by the acid vapour.
Furthermore, a new water filtration membrane was fabricated by LbL SA as it is an effective method
to generate dense layers on a membrane support [229]. This method was successfully used to integrate
the negatively charged GO nanosheets with a porous poly(acrylonitrile) (PAN) support through the
positively charged poly (allylamine hydrochloride) (PAH) by electrostatic interaction [211].
Additionally, GO based FO membranes were fabricated in several studies. The first trial was
conducted by Park et al [222], in which GO nanosheets were combined with the PSf to produce a
novel membrane with a PSf/GO composite support layer. The PA active layer was then shaped on the
PSf/GO via IP to obtain the

What Is The Theme In The Conference Of The Birds
Introduction
This essay will attempt to delve into the meaning and thus, deliver a commentary on one of the
greatest Sufi poems of all times, The Conference of the Birds (Manteq at Tair) written by the great
Persian Sufi poet Farid ud Din Attar, who was born during the twelfth century in Neishapour in north
west Iran and spent his childhood being educated at the theological school attached to the shrine of
Imam Reza at Mashhad. (Darbandi Davis 1). The poem written by Attar can be seen as an allegory of
a spiritual pilgrimage, like that of Dante s Divine Comedy and Chaucer s Canterbury Tales. (Davis et
al. 401).
However, before moving forward, it is imperative to clarify that since the poem is composed of 4500
lines, only a stanza has ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Conference of the Birds is an epic Sufi poem, owing to it long length and the narrative that it
attempts to knit together. One of the rhetorical devices used frequently by the poet Attar in his works
is that of anaphora, which is the repetition of a certain word or phrase over and over again within an
extended paragraph or few lines. (Darbandi Davis 9). Moreover, Attar also uses the common masnavi
metre of Persian narrative poetry; where the rhymes occur within the line and each line has a different
rhyme thereby, rendering it almost identical to the English heroic couplet. (Darbandi Davis 9). Not
only that, he also makes use of Persian metaphors in his work which are quite different from that of
the metaphors found in the English poetry, as the former juxtapose words in such a way so as to
deepen the meanings implied by the passage. (Darbandi Davis

I Am A Physician Assistant
Ten. Nine. Eight. Seven. My eyes started to lose the strength to stay open and my vision began to blur.
The tight grip I had on the anesthesiologist s hand slowly withered away.
As an active thirteen year old who spent his afternoons and weekends playing basketball, I was taken
aback when I first heard of my atrial septal defect and inevitable open heart surgery. I could not
fathom being away from the court for so long. But what seemed like the end of my passion for
basketball ultimately lead to a new passion to become a physician assistant.
Throughout my experience as a surgical patient, I always noticed three things my medical team never
failed to perform: inform, educate, and care for me. Through my frequent visits to the hospital I began
to notice that these ideals were essential in every successful physician patient relationship. As I
progressed in my career as a student, I came to realize that the academic and extracurricular activities
I was involved in were helping me perform those very qualities. I vividly remember sitting next to my
doctor with my knees trembling as he tried to explain my condition. I realized that the ability to advise
a young, scared, or uninformed individual was an indispensable tool to any practitioner. Just as my
physician was able to fulfill his duty to inform me, I informed others through ROOP NYC. ROOP is a

Should Children Have Screen Time
Although both arguements seem reasonable I feel there should be a screen time limit for children.
Being in front of a screen takes children away from human interaction. Children should be playing and
using their imagination whether its inside or outside. In personal experiences, screen play takes a
mental and physical toll on children. In my personal opinion there is no reason to have children in
front of a screen for longer than an hour or two a day. While a child is sitting in front of a screen for
hours on end they arent paying any attention to the outisde world or their surroundings. Instead of
playing on a tablet or computer or watching t.v they could be playing a board game or reading with
family or friends. I can ask my children ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They should be outside playing games and making their own things up. Children need to use their own
original thinking and problem solving. This will help their brain developement and skills they will
need in life. Screen time is mentally draining for children. The light from the screen throws off our
body clocks and can disrupt sleep. When a child doesnt sleep enough they are more irritable and their
physical activity level will go down. This can also lead into obesity. Children need physical activity.
Whos to say they will go outisde? Well children wont have many options if screen time is taken away.
Even if its not outside they will still be doing something other than just sitting on a couch. If a child
gets enough sleep they will have the energy to do other things both physically and mentally. Screen
play is mentally draining and can cause depression. In my personal experience with my own son
screen play causes him depression, especially before bed. What ever he watches or plays the night
before interupts his sleep. It also negatively impacts his imagintion, causing him to have night mares.
All of this could be avoided if we sat down with our children and read them a book or played a game

aside and inspire the others to stay positive and keep trying even when they feel like there is no hope.
Nando sacrificed his life in hope to find rescues for the lives of many others. He encourage them to
climb the mountain and even when Canessa was doubting that they will make it Nando s goal was if
we do were going to die walking . Nando showed his success by believing in everyone and himself; he
made others believe in hopefulness. He was successful because he never gave up, he would rather die
walking than die not trying at all, by seeing the mountains without snow made him comprehend he s
that much closer to attaining his goals and those sacrifices he made were the right thing to do because
a life without trying is no life at all. Nando personality is what saved Canessa from giving up along
with many others, his stubbornness helped him accomplish his goal because he kept pushing himself
up the mountain and always had an encouraging thought. Nando is an example of someone who shows

Wiwoloku Elizabeth Wiwoloku Introduction There are two main theories applied to relationships,
Social Exchange Theory and Equity Theory underpin commonly used behavioural therapies such as
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Enhanced Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Integrative Cognitive

Simpson et al. found that participants in existing relationships rated people of the opposite sex as less
attractive than participants not in relationships. This suggests that people judge prospects of new
alternative relationships as less profitable if they are already in a committed relationship. The CLA
may provide an explanation as to why many women choose to stay in abusive relationships. If
investments in the relationship are high (e.g. children, financial security) amp; alternative prospects
are bleak (e.g. poverty, homelessness), then a woman may see staying in the abusive relationship to be
more profitable than leaving it. Blau (1977) argued that interactions are expensive , as they take time,
energy and commitment and may involve unpleasant emotions and experiences. Therefore what we
get out of a relationship must exceed what goes in. Rusbult found that costs and rewards from a
relationship were weighed up in comparison to possible alternative relationships when deciding
whether they should be maintained which supports that social exchange models idea that people assess
rewards by making comparisons. Walster et al believed that social interactions involve an exchange of
rewards, like affection, information, status. The degree of attraction or liking reflects how people
evaluate the rewards they receive in relative to those given. Costs of being in a relationship may be
effort, money spent, time spent, or low self esteem, whilst the rewards may be pleasure,

Environmental Issues Challenging The Clean Water Act Of...
Coastal Area I live less than a mile from the San Francisco Bay and Estuary (SFBay). I wrote about
this bay s environmental issues in the Unit #1 Learning Journal assignment and have decided to use
this opportunity to elaborate on two specific environmental issues challenging the SFBay. To
summarize this ecosystem: It s the largest bay and estuary on the Pacific coast and has been damaged
by industrial activity, starting in 1850 with the Gold Rush and quickly followed by the logging,
railroad and salt pond industries. Its biggest threats are pollution, water diversion and filling in.
Conservation efforts began in 1965 and today the SFBay is collectively overseen by government and
private organizations. Two environmental problems the SFBay faces are mercury contamination and
overfishing. The Clean Water Act lists the SFBay as impaired for mercury. Estimates suggest the bay s
sediment is contaminated with about two hundred metric tons of mercury, much going back to original
Gold Rush. This pollutant has affected SFBay biota resulting in a state issued fish advisory waning not
to eat some common fish such as Striped bass and limited intake of other species (OEHHA, 2011; Ely
Viani, 2010). At the same time humanity was busy cutting down thousand year old redwood trees and
hydraulically destroying the Sierra Mountains, they were also busy pillaging the SFBay for fish,
shellfish and perhaps the unlucky whale pod that happened by. Some species were immediately
depleted and by

My Techniques In My Writing
So many different forms of writing. It is crazy to think that we use these writing techniques. I know it
can help me with my writing. I m not a strong writing, but I m hoping by the time I finish this class I
will have made a lot of progress. We write a lot of essays in high school and also in college. Essays
are profile of a person or a place, and are ready made structures or forms. Being a creative writer helps
you see different possibilities in your work.Having structure is a good writing technique. You can have
structure at the beginning , middle, and end of a creative writing. There is so many structures that we
use to write like classical dramatic structure. We used this in high school and college as well. Conflict,

America Stands At A Crossroads
America stands at a crossroads. The Fascists in Europe and the Imperialists in Japan threaten the very
foundation of our nation. Our troops fight valiantly to beat back these enemies who seek to encroach
upon our values of freedom and equality. Yet, in the background, a domestic war wages on. Of course,
I refer to the plight of Negro Americans against Jim Crow. Our political leaders constantly request the
patience of Negro promising change is right around the corner. However, many have come to
understand the emptiness of these words. If change will not come from the top then it must come from
the people, and it begins with the integration of baseball. Why baseball? you may ask. It is because
baseball is the quintessential mark of being an American. European immigrants, who are often
different from native born Americans in terms of language and religion, have been able to integrate
into American life simply by playing or being fans of the sport. The connections formed on the field
and in the stands have given native born Americans and immigrants an opportunity to connect, to
understand, and to respect one another. This pattern of understanding and respect coming through
association has been seen elsewhere as well. I remember how Negroes and Whites worked alongside
one another in New York during the Great War. It was undoubtedly a rough transition, yet because of
firm management, very few problems arose as I recall, not a single hate strike occurred during that
time.

How to Tell a True War Story by Tim O brien
The Baby Boom era occurred between the years of the late 1950s thru the 19970s and shaped America
and its culture into the type of country it is today. It helps to understand these times to prevent history
from repeating itself while better understanding how people were feeling during that time. Also, to
better understand what was happening during that time by reading the literature that was written
during that time period. Through Tim O Brien s How to Tell a True War Story to Ursula K. Le Guin s

The Fault Of Our Stars By John Green
In the novel, The Fault in Our Stars, the author, John Green, provides the reader with a theme that
people tend to differ other people who do not appear to be the same as every other average human
being. People would contradict this universal truth, but it cannot be denied. From the onset, Hazel is
receiving extra care and attention from her parents and guardians. Mom I shouted. Nothing. Again,
louder, MOM! She ran in wearing a threadbare pink towel under her armpits, dripping, vaguely
panicked What s wrong? Nothing. Sorry I didn t know you were in the shower (Green 127), Hazel

making them feel embarrassed and weird in their present situation is not what describes humanity.
Everyone present in the airport with Hazel, were staring constantly towards her as she is getting

Application Of Sdn And Its Architectural Principle
Emerging new trends in information and communication technologies domain, in particular mobile,
social, cloud and big data are urging computer networks for high bandwidth, ubiquitous accessibility
and dynamic management. However, traditional approaches based on manual configuration of
patented devices are unmanageable and error prone. Also traditional approaches cannot fully utilize
the capability of the physical network infrastructure and its resources. In response to the
aforementioned requirements of computer networks, one solution would be to make additional
investment in the network. In this paper, we survey the SDN literature and aim at presenting the

embraced different techniques for the purpose of determining the path of network packets across

delayed caused by rebuilding connection after link failure. Google went ahead and implemented SDN.
In 2013, they built their hardware and wrote their own software and surprised the industries by
announcing that SDN is possible in production. They named it B4, a private WAN connecting Google

The Cia And Central Intelligence Agency
The CIA (Central Intelligence Agency) in the United States has been involved in several operations
with drug trafficking. Some of these reports claim that the evidence of the Congress indicates that the
CIA worked with groups that were known to be involved in drug trafficking. The deals mainly include
providing the CIA with useful information and support material, in exchange for allowing their
criminal activities to continue, and impede or prevent the arrest, prosecution and imprisonment from
United States law enforcement agencies. This war on drugs was used as an easy way to increase
repression in inner cities and confiscate millions of dollars in private assets through unconstitutional
forfeiture laws. These assets were used to fund police burgeoning, and as an active participant in the
illegal drug trade, public resources were used to bring heroin and cocaine into American inner cities
since the 1960 s.
The most controversial public episode was when the report of the Kerry Committee came to the

Charlotte Beers Case Summary
BACKGROUND
Charlotte Beers became Ogilvy Mather s first outsider CEO after its acquisition by WPP Group Plc in
1991. According to her memo dated May 19th, Beers objective was to re invent the mega agency,
whose inertia and complacency had eroded its competitiveness since the 1980s. In fact, Beer s tenure
at Ogilvy constituted a re creation of the agency, redefining its aims, processes, people, and structure
in reaction to the demands placed by the changing advertising industry.
ANALYSIS
The main issue that confronted Beers was initiating and instituting organizational change at the core
level. She assumed the leadership of Ogilvy at a time when the organization was internally bleeding.

HOW CHARLOTTE BEERS LEADERSHIP CREATED STRATEGIC CHANGE
Ogilvy s insiders quickly perceived a presence and ability to inspire in Beers that they had not found
in the firm s four previous CEOs. Despite the company s typical rejection of outsiders, Beers known
passionate interest in the philosophy of marketing, and her pride in the Ogilvy brand made many
executives receptive to her leadership. Since no one makes change happen alone, the charisma she
inspired was crucial for Beers to initiate the process of change. It was the magic leadership that O M
had not seen since David Ogilvy left.
Beers quickly exploited her charisma by instituting a process that conformed to Beer, Eisenstat
Spector s model for effective organizational change. First, Beers immediately mobilized commitment
to change through her videotaped appeal to all 7,000 Ogilvy employees, as well as in one on one
meetings with executives. In addition, Beers gained valuable perspective by meeting with 50 clients in
6 months. In each instance, Beers relied on her charisma to coax shared expectations and dreams from
internal and external stakeholders. Clearly, by asking each group what they can accomplish together,
Beers sought a shared vision of how Ogilvy could organize and manage for competitiveness. Her
rallying point: Brand Stewardship.

How Does Shakespeare Present Malvolio In Twelfth Night
Shakespeare presents Malvolio (meaning ill will ) in a way that makes the characters dislike him and
feel entitled to subject him to horrific and embarrassing tricks. Perhaps it is a form of release for the
characters and audience members; Angela Carter states, Comedy is tragedy that happens to other
people. In a way this is true since it is Shakespeare s design to create comedy in Malvolio s
misfortune. This type of treatment in the real world would not be funny as it is taken too far; at first
they only make fun of him but then they start to humiliate and torture him even in context of Twelfth
Night being a comedy. The audience is aware of the tragedy that Malvolio goes through but whether

This is comical to the audience and Malvolio is not of high class and the Tudor sumptuary laws state
that only upper classes are allowed to wear them. It is hilarious because of how he references the letter
and so blatantly shows off, he completely goes against his character and Puritanism. Olivia s reaction
highlights how odd she finds it and orders, Good Maria, let this fellow be looked to. The use of the
word fellow shows that she pities him as she genuinely thinks he is ill, this is because instead of
calling him what he is, a steward, she merely references his gender to show that she is considering him
as a human. However, Shakespeare makes the situation so that Malvolio does not fully recognise that
he has been tricked and therefore what he cannot understand cannot affect him. He is not aware that
everything is just a joke played at his expense, and therefore feeling sorry for someone who is not
aware that they are meant to be pitied for seems pointless. It may provoke sympathy as the audience
no longer see him as just a Puritan nuisance but as a fellow

Social Cognitive Theory Main Concepts Essay
Social Cognitive Theory Main Concepts: According to the Social Cognitive Theory, people learn by
observation and modeling behavior. Albert Bandura developed the social cognitive theory in 1986.
Bandura believes that people obtain knowledge and how to function by modeling behavior from
others by interacting with others. The main highlight of his theory is that people learn by observation,
imitation and modeling behavior within the social environment (Merriam, 2014)). Individual
remember the consequences associated with individual behavior and used this information to guide
subsequent behavior. For example, an observed action elicits an instinctive drive to model the
behavior. Although the social learning theory states that people learn by observation, learning does not
always lead to aggressive behavior. The social cognitive theory (SCT) integrates interaction between
behavior, personal factor, cognition and environment which is referred to as the reciprocal causation
model However, Bandura does not suggest that these three factors contribute to behavior (Bandura,
2012).
Andragogy:
On the other hands, andragogy is a theory developed by Malcolm Shepherd Knowles in 1980 s.
Andragogy focuses on the science of adult learning and self directive learning. The main highlights of
this approach are self concept, learner experience, readiness, orientation, and motivation. In self
concepts, as a human matures they move from being dependent towards self directed

Universal Basic Income Benefits
A Universal Basic Income (UBI) is essentially an idea in which the government pays all of its citizens
to prevent or reduce poverty and increase equality among the people. There are many factors that can
cause things to change in society some of these being moving up from a social class, or also making
the rich even more richer than they already are these and many more reasons are why a UBI would
essentially not be beneficial for americans. A UBI is financially irresponsible. Universal means
everyone gets it. Even in the richest societies like I have stated in the earlier sentence, if UBI was set

as they get paid why should they bother trying. These and many points are the reason why a UBI

Louisville And Nashville R. V. Mottley Summary
Case Citation: Louisville and Nashville R. Co. v. Mottley, 211 U.S. 149 (1908)
Parties: Louisville and Nashville Railroad Company, Petitioner E.L Mottley and Annie E. Mottley,
Defendants
Facts: E.L. Mottley and his wife, Annie E. Mottley, (plaintiffs) were passengers on board a train
operated by the Louisville and Nashville Railroad Company (defendants). Both the plaintiffs and the
defendant are citizens of the state of Kentucky. The plaintiffs, while passengers on board a train, were
injured in a train wreck on September 7, 1871. The defendants offered the injured plaintiffs a free pass
from the defendant s railroad company in exchange for the agreement that they would not bring suit
upon the defendant. The plaintiffs accepted the free passes which would be renewed yearly. Several
decades later, in 1906, a law was passed by the U.S. Congress banning free railroad passes. This was
passed in order to prevent bribery on government workers and officials. This caused the defendant to
refuse the plaintiffs renewal of their free passes in which they then filed suit for specific performance
in the Circuit Court for the Western District of Kentucky. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

They also argued that if the law passed by congress did apply to them then the law should be
considered unconstitutional due to the law depriving the defendants their property without due process

Circuit court overruled and awarded relief to the plaintiffs. The defendants then appealed straight to

Surviving The Applewhites Analysis
In Surviving the Applewhites the main idea is, that with determination anything is possible. This is
shown in how the Applewhites, dedicated themselves to the production of The Sound of Music, even
when it was being canceled they didn t give up and put on the play in their own residence. The Von
Trapps relate to the theme because of how determined Captain Trapp was to stay true to himself and
not give into the Nazi s request. Despite the Von Trapps knowing that as soon as they finished their
performance in the Kaltzberg music festival their father or husband would be taken away, they still
sang beautifully determined to touch the hearts of the audience. The Applewhites were persistent in

In the United States workers generally pay into these programs in the form of a tax in exchange for
future benefits; however, in Mexico this burden lies on mainly employer contributions which total
around one third of a workers overall salary in one year. Mexican employers pay this money to the
Mexican Social Security Institute(IMSS), who oversee worker benefits. (IMSS) funds are obtained
primarily through employer contributions(70%), but also come from employees(25%) and from the
government (5%) (Posthuma, Dworkin, Torres, Bustillos 2000). Just as in the U.S. all workers must

includes full family medical care, unlike the private insurance system that is more prominent in the

death benefits. There is also a separate system in Mexico that is much like the transferable IRA system

Banc One has been very successful in acquiring banks, and much of this is done through the

Purchasing options, forward, or future contracts. In this way the bank can reduce the uncertainty in the
future by entering into an agreement with set terms for a specific date. Thus, if the interest rate moves
in an unfavorable direction, the bank has the option to use these tools in order to mitigate the impact
of the change on its balance sheet.
What are the advantages and disadvantages of using swaps rather than these other means?
Advantages:
There are no capital reserve requirements specific to swaps. Swaps do not appear as assets on the
balance sheet and thus they are not accounted for in the capital requirement calculations for the bank.
This frees capital for the bank and at the same time brings insurance against its interest rate exposure.
Swaps give flexibility and allow the bank to design the contracts in a way that fits its needs. Banks can
tailor the durations, rates and other terms of the swap contracts and make it specific to the current
situation of the bank. Furthermore, they can easily communicate with other banks in order to construct
contracts, which benefit both sides.
Swaps can also improve the bank s liquidity It can invest in short term instruments and thus avoid
locking in its funds in long term securities. At the same time it can add swaps to its portfolio in order
to mitigate some of the interest rate risk involved in the investment of short term

Miss America Pageant Reflection By John Oliver
Humor s powerful, influential qualities that key in on deficient human behaviors combined with
societal constructs that evolve from them in a way that reveals their absurdity, often to a hilarious
degree, is what makes satire entertaining and, often, interestingly informative. Comedians that engage
in satire deliver a message that may be considered rude if spoken by any other means. Satire disarms
the audience and pardons the comic from responsibility for their criticisms, and is an especially
powerful tool in repressive political and social realms. Last Week Tonight with John Oliver uses the
satirical news format as a means to address the ridiculousness of beauty pageants as it continues to
objectify women in a climate in which social constructs are shifting towards feminist equality and
persuasion of the audience to agree with the commentary. Considering the context of the Miss
America Pageant reflection by John Oliver in his satirical news program, his goal is to select a
particular topic to deconstruct and discuss the inadequacies with a humoristic flair. The social climate
from the early 20th Century introduction of the Miss America Pageant to current day is vastly
different, and while the pageant evolved over the last 90 plus years, the basic tenets remain. Today s
woman is considered to be independent, strong, intelligent and the physical appearance is but a side

Effective Use of Technology by Terrorists Essay
The magnitude of terrorist activity in today s world is in large part due to the technological tools
available to everyone. Even though you may not believe so, by doing these acts of terrorism, it can
cause the market to change or even have a more clear effect on your life like the death of a loved one,
or one of your loved ones being injured. With all of that being said, there is one important thing that
helps them accomplish these goals. That one important thing is technology. Technology all around the
world is used for good and helps us accomplish tasks we could not do without technology. But there is
also the downside to technology. The downside is that it can also be used for bad and that is in which
intent the terrorist use it for. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When it comes to technology, it is a two way street. Just as they can hack into us, we are able to hack
right back into them. While they may use it to their advantages, we are able to view into everything
they do as well. We are able to see what their plans are because they leave themselves just as
vulnerable as we do. These little opening that we are able to find may lead to the prevention of attacks
and it may lead to possible finding of where they are located at. The criminal underground is highly
innovative and often acts as an early adopter of emerging technologies. This has been proven time and
time again. With things like weapons, we ve seen terrorist adapt almost instantly. They are ready for
just about everything and the new technology we a producing is no exception. With all the advances
with robots, artificial intelligence, and biotechnology, the terrorists take all these advances to their
own advantage. Technology has made our world increasingly open and has had mostly huge benefits
for our society. But having this openness can lead to more than just advancements. For example, in
2008 there was a group of terrorist who attacked Mumbai, India. The perpetrators were armed with Ak
47s, explosives and hand grenades. Although you may think that the weaponry is the center of
amazement but, it is not. What was most surprising about this attack is how they used modern
information communications

Mogen Company Financial Analysis
MoGen On January 10, 2006 the managing director of Merrill Lynch s Equity Linked Capital markets
Group, Dar Maanavi, was reviewing the final drafts of a proposal for a convertible debt offering by
MoGen, Inc. As a leading biotechnology company in the United States, MoGen had become an
important client for Merrill Lynch over the years. In fact, if this deal were to be approved by MoGen
at $5billion, it would represent Merrill Lynch s third financing for MoGen in four years with proceeds
raised totaling $10 billion. Moreover, this convert would be the largest such single offering in history.
The proceeds were earmarked to fund a variety of capital expenditures, research and development
expenses, working capital needs, as well as a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Over the years, the industry had made progress in shortening the approval time and improving the
predictability of the approval process. At the same time, industry R D expenditures had increased
12.6% over 2003 in the continuing race to find the next big breakthrough product. Like all biotech
companies, MoGen faced uncertainty regarding new product creating as well as challenges involved
with sustaining a pipeline of future products. Now a competitive threat of follow on biologics or
biosimilars began emerging. As drugs neared the end of their patent protection, competitors would
produce similar drugs as substitutes. Competitors could not produce the drug exactly, because they did
not have access to the original manufacturer s molecular clone or purification process. Thus,
biosimilars required their own approval to ensure they performed as safely as the original drugs. For
MoGen, this threat was particularly significant in Europe, where several patents were approaching
expiration. Funding Needs MoGen needed to ensure a consistent supply of cash to fund R D and to
maintain financial flexibility in the face of uncertain challenges an opportunities. MoGen had cited
several key areas that would require approximately $10 billion in funding for 2006: 1. Expanding
manufacturing and information, and fill and finish capacity: Recently, the company had not been able
to scale up production to

Burke s Nakedness Of Adam And Eve
Burke identifies a norm of a naked expulsion of Adam and Eve beginning by 1500, which contradicts
the biblical account God made coats of skins and clothed them before forced to leave the Garden of
Eden. According to Burke, until about the early 15th century, all Italian iconography of Adam and Eve
expulsions were fully clothed or with covered genitalia. Afterwards, Adam and Eve were shown to be
fully naked post expulsion from the Garden as seen in Masaccio s infamous Expulsion from Paradise
(1423). Burke s ultimate observation on Adam and Eve s portrayal of nakedness after being expelled
from Eden is that it serves a purpose beyond the fall of man. An array of various classical texts,
Vitruvius On Architecture (c. 15th), Diodorus Library of History (Latin: 1450) and Lucretius s De
Rerum Natura (Bracciolini: 1417) which described early human development as naked, wretched and
animalistic supports an argument for symbolic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Man s nakedness (i.e. Adam and Eve) symbolically represents his essential state (On Literary Polish
1462), the ability to rise and fall (Oration of the Dignity of Mankind 1486), to create civilization (On
Discovery 1499), to rise from bestial conditions, the potential to be clothed, to create dwellings, to
craft (Book of Craftsman 1400), to be the first achiever in the entire course of human history.
According to Burke, it serves a functional purpose to portray such nakedness, since it visually
identifies the couple Adam and Eve from other historical figures in the cycles of uomini famosi during
the Quattrocento as well as speaks to the continual potential of man to clothe himself, naturally
leading to other human

Heather Mae Erickson is a designer and artist who s known for her ceramics. She received her
Bachelor of Fine Arts in Crafts with a concentration in Art Education from the University of the Arts
in Philadelphia and her Master of Fine Arts in ceramic art from Cranbrook Academy of Art in
Bloomfield Hills, MI. Heather was also awarded a Fulbright fellowship to handle independent study at
Aalto University in Finland. Through her work, Heather is interested with reaching past the art world
and interacting with a variety of people all over the world by designing purposeful tableware. I am not
interested in making ceramic teapots that look and work exactly like the ones the world already
knows. A prime example that puts her ideas into practice is applying the concept of the waiters serving
tray and transforming it together with an enlarged spoon to create a truly unique appetizer platter. I am
not sure how far objects can be manipulated using new concepts before the average person needs
education and direction to utilize them. I am especially interested in making new objects that comment

viewpoint of a sculptor, carving a solid chunk of plaster with rasps, refining the details increasingly to
create as perfect of a model as possible. Despite the energy of her forms, the vibrant, defined vertical,
horizontal and diagonal lines and the sharp distinctions of the planes that these define, any visual

Comparison Of Authority Figures In Romeo And Juliet And...
Comparison of Authority Figures in Romeo and Juliet and Shakespeare in Love Stoppard s satirical
movie, Shakespeare in Love, is a play on Shakespeare s tragic love story, Romeo and Juliet. Stoppard
places Shakespeare himself into a relationship with Viola De Lesseps, that resembles the relationship
between Romeo and Juliet. Stoppard incorporates countless parallels into the film from Shakespeare s
love story, including the character development of major authority figures. The prince and the queen,
Capulet and Viola s father, and the Friar and the Priest are all figures of authority and parallel between
the two works; Stoppard gave his cast similarities to Shakespeare s characters, but they also varied in
some aspects. Stoppard s decision to both keep some and change some character attributes of these
authority figures helps contribute and develop the ending of the movie, just as Shakespeare s character
developments contributed to the outcome of his plays. In Romeo and Juliet, the supreme authority is
the Prince; he is the governing individual in Verona, Italy where the setting takes place, just as Queen
Elizabeth is shown as the highest authority in England in Shakespeare in Love. One key difference
between these leaders in the stories is that the Prince is mostly concerned with keeping the peace,
while the Queen also appreciates and respects Viola s risk and is excited by Viola and her relationship
with Shakespeare. The Queen is exhilarated by the whole ordeal. She

For example, a prospective employer cannot ask a job applicant certain family related questions
during the hiring process. In most states, employees have a right to privacy in the workplace. This
right to privacy applies to the employee s personal possessions, including handbags or briefcases,
storage lockers accessible only by the employee, and private mail addressed only to employee.
Employees may also have a right to privacy in their telephone conversations or voicemail messages.
However, employees have very limited rights to privacy in their e mail messages and Internet usage
while using the employer s computer system. There are certain pieces of information that an employer
may not seek out concerning a potential job applicant or employee. An employer may not conduct a
credit or background check of an employee or prospective employee unless the employer notifies the
individual in writing and receives permission to do so. Other important employee rights include: *
Right to be free from discrimination and harassment of all types; * Right to a safe workplace free of

retaliation for filing a claim or complaint against an employer (these are sometimes called
whistleblower rights); * Right to fair wages for work performed. Federal Regulations on Employment

Research Paper On Mendenhall Glacier
The Mendenhall Glacier, an ancient, massive glacier surrounded by snow capped mountains and a
silver waterfall. The glacier towers over everything but the mountains, the mountains, swallows
everything whole, enwrapping everything to form a gift for the eyes. The glaciers colors consist of:
blues, whites, and browns. Indentations left from melted away parts of the glacier that soon float in the
Mendenhall lake, forming their own icebergs. Every now and then you hear a loud crunch, signaling a
chunk of ice is soon to plunge into the water. The water itself is not the expected color of water, blue,
instead it s a murky grey. The water has small rapids that come from the Nugget Falls, which stands
away from the glacier. The falls are the same

Swept Away Creative Writing
Swept Away Lexie heard the bleeping of her alarm clock in the distance as she awoke from a deep
sleep. She turned over on her side and saw the clock read 4:46 am. She turned on her light and her
eyes started to water. All she could see was her green and orange walls until her eyes stopped
watering. After she stood there for a few moments, she walked over to her dresser and grabbed a shirt
and some blue jeans and slipped them on. All her stuff was ready to go so she picked it all up: her
boots, her show shirts, and show pants. She walked downstairs and quickly ate breakfast and she
grabbed her keys and her clothes and walked down the stairs and out the garage door. As the garage ...

There were at least ten other horses in the arena so Lexie walked around on the horse and she felt a
rain drop. She looked over at the west and saw the dark thunder clouds start to roll in. She started to
get nervous cause she knew that lightning and horseshoes don t mix well. Squealy started to get antsy
cause she felt the energy off of Lexie and she knew something was wrong. All of the sudden Lexie
saw a sheet of rain come across the field. As quickly and safely as she could she got off Squealy,
grabbed the reins, and ran to the trailer. Luckily the back of the trailer was open so Lexie ran in there
and Squealy followed. As soon as Squealy was tied up, she shook her body trying to get all the rain off
of her body. Lexie quickly grabbed the saddle, bridle and girth and ran out of the trailer and ran
blindly to the dressing room door. Thunder boomed loudly and the rain came down as hard as it could.
Lexie whipped opened the door and jumped into the small room to find Cynthia sitting on the floor.
You know how bad this is, she shouted over the sound of the rain and the

A Research Article Written By Richard Hartshorne And...
Summary
In a research article written by Richard Hartshorne and Jennifer Baucom (2007), entitled, Issues
Affecting Cross Cultural Adaptation of International Graduate Students Richard, published at the
Multicultural Learning and Teaching Journal, the issues or challenges that international graduate
students related to cross cultural adaption were investigated. The main idea of the study was that
international students need to cope and adjust themselves to a new culture in order to make their
learning experiences more meaningful, and in order to achieve this some barriers must be overcome.
The main purpose of the study, therefore, was to identify the diverse barriers encountered by
international students and then propose ways of overcoming these barriers efficiently. In a much
broader sense, the objectives of the study are two fold: to identify and understand the barriers for inter
cultural adaptation and then provide recommendations on how to lessen or overcome such barriers
with the different stakeholders in mind. The revealed that such barriers are a result in differences in
the international students home culture and the new or host culture, the differences in learning
environments, and personal uniqueness or the self. Nevertheless, there are also similarities among
these four factors. The authors noted that the similarities can be improved and the barriers can be
minimized if some initiatives are to be taken. The authors were able to give five initiatives: provide

Revolt Of The 18th Century
At the end of the 18th century, there were many revolts in the Spanish Americas, but these
insurgencies didn t have the intention to make these regions independent, in fact they fought corrupt
officials and the implementation of the Bourbon reforms, in the name of the king. These revolts didn t
evolve into movements of independence because of the remoteness of the cities that they occurred in
and the magnitude of the size of the Spanish Americas, the Bourbon reforms weren t set in place at the
same time in all corners of the territory, so people did not rise up against them simultaneously, there
were deep social divisions at the time, and the political theory and ideas that these movements had
weren t those of independence. Although this was true, a few decades later during the 1810 s and 1820
s this Spanish domain, was calling for independence. This desire came about thanks to French
invasion of Spain and the capturing of the king which brought many changes to the area. These
changes include, the creation of juntas to maintain dominance in the absence of the king, which gave
the americanos a slight touch of sovereignty, the creation of the Constitution of 1812 which allowed
the freedom of the press, and made Spain a constitutional monarchy, and the return to power of
Ferdinand VII and the rejection of these changes which caused social divisions between loyalists and
insurgents. First, geography played a part in preventing the revolts from the late 18th century to turn
into

  • 2. The Story Of A Woman Essay A woman is standing in her kitchen, cooking dinner for her husband and her three children. She has many things on her mind other than food: her children, her health, her life. During her distraction, the bread that she had put in the oven to toast begins to burn and it smells of smoke in the kitchen. She desperately pulls the pan out of the oven and begins to fan the bread, hoping that her husband in the living room does not smell it. Her husband enters the kitchen, smells the remnants of the smoke, and walks slowly over to her. She uses her body to shield the seared bread while realizing that the relief she just felt is gone. Her husband asks what happened and she opens her mouth to answer...when he smacks her across the face. Can you ever do anything right?! he yells. The children glance in through the open door, then scatter when they see their mom s wide eyed expression. The bruise begins to form already and the scar tissue around her broken heart opens back up again. This, unfortunately, is a reality for many women around the world, especially in the United States. They live in fear every day, wondering if today is the day that their spouse will end their lives. Others endure endless verbal abuse, killing their self esteem and their will to live. Domestic violence is an epidemic that is on the rise around the world. We must come together and propose a solution to help women feel safe and secure in their homes and in their relationships. The World is Too Much With Us by William Wordsworth Essay The World is Too Much With Us by William Wordsworth In William Wordsworth s The World is Too Much With Us, this poem heeds warning to his generation. Membranes Case Study GO has also been mixed with the polymeric matrix to fabricate different nanocomposite membranes, such as polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) MF/UF [141,224,225], polyether sulfone (PES) NF membranes [226] and PSf [162]. One of the main drawbacks of the blending technique is the absence of GO direct exposure to foulants, which restricts the interaction between foulants and GO. Accordingly, the superior GO features, in terms of antifouling, will not be entirely exploited. The direct deposition of GO nanosheets on the membrane surface is a more effective technique for fouling control, hence the GO/foulants interaction can be maximized. The employment of GO leads to the production of small, uniform, stable and distributed AgNPs in addition to improved silver loading and ion release control. Several applicable and effective techniques for the fabrication of freestanding ultrathin rGO membranes were reported. One of these techniques was exemplified by Liu et al [220], in which a reinforced GO membrane was shaped on a mixed cellulose ester (MCE) filter through the filteration of diluted GO dispersion. The formed GO/MCE membrane was then positioned over a hydriodic acid solution, where the GO membrane rapidly changed to a black colour, confirming the reduction of GO to rGO by the acid vapour. Furthermore, a new water filtration membrane was fabricated by LbL SA as it is an effective method to generate dense layers on a membrane support [229]. This method was successfully used to integrate the negatively charged GO nanosheets with a porous poly(acrylonitrile) (PAN) support through the positively charged poly (allylamine hydrochloride) (PAH) by electrostatic interaction [211]. Additionally, GO based FO membranes were fabricated in several studies. The first trial was conducted by Park et al [222], in which GO nanosheets were combined with the PSf to produce a novel membrane with a PSf/GO composite support layer. The PA active layer was then shaped on the PSf/GO via IP to obtain the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Moreover, Attar also uses the common masnavi metre of Persian narrative poetry; where the rhymes occur within the line and each line has a different rhyme thereby, rendering it almost identical to the English heroic couplet. Blau (1977) argued that interactions are expensive , as they take time, energy and commitment and may involve unpleasant emotions and experiences. Therefore what we get out of a relationship must exceed what goes in. Rusbult found that costs and rewards from a relationship were weighed up in comparison to possible alternative relationships when deciding whether they should be maintained which supports that social exchange models idea that people assess rewards by making comparisons. Walster et al believed that social interactions involve an exchange of rewards, like affection, information, status. The degree of attraction or liking reflects how people evaluate the rewards they receive in relative to those given. Costs of being in a relationship may be effort, money spent, time spent, or low self esteem, whilst the rewards may be pleasure, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 24. Environmental Issues Challenging The Clean Water Act Of... Coastal Area I live less than a mile from the San Francisco Bay and Estuary (SFBay). I wrote about this bay s environmental issues in the Unit #1 Learning Journal assignment and have decided to use this opportunity to elaborate on two specific environmental issues challenging the SFBay. To summarize this ecosystem: It s the largest bay and estuary on the Pacific coast and has been damaged by industrial activity, starting in 1850 with the Gold Rush and quickly followed by the logging, railroad and salt pond industries. Its biggest threats are pollution, water diversion and filling in. Conservation efforts began in 1965 and today the SFBay is collectively overseen by government and private organizations. Two environmental problems the SFBay faces are mercury contamination and overfishing. The Clean Water Act lists the SFBay as impaired for mercury. Estimates suggest the bay s sediment is contaminated with about two hundred metric tons of mercury, much going back to original Gold Rush. This pollutant has affected SFBay biota resulting in a state issued fish advisory waning not to eat some common fish such as Striped bass and limited intake of other species (OEHHA, 2011; Ely Viani, 2010). At the same time humanity was busy cutting down thousand year old redwood trees and hydraulically destroying the Sierra Mountains, they were also busy pillaging the SFBay for fish, shellfish and perhaps the unlucky whale pod that happened by. Some species were immediately depleted and by ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 26. America Stands At A Crossroads America stands at a crossroads. The Fascists in Europe and the Imperialists in Japan threaten the very foundation of our nation. Our troops fight valiantly to beat back these enemies who seek to encroach upon our values of freedom and equality. Yet, in the background, a domestic war wages on. Of course, I refer to the plight of Negro Americans against Jim Crow. Our political leaders constantly request the patience of Negro promising change is right around the corner. However, many have come to understand the emptiness of these words. If change will not come from the top then it must come from the people, and it begins with the integration of baseball. Why baseball? you may ask. It is because baseball is the quintessential mark of being an American. European immigrants, who are often different from native born Americans in terms of language and religion, have been able to integrate into American life simply by playing or being fans of the sport. The connections formed on the field and in the stands have given native born Americans and immigrants an opportunity to connect, to understand, and to respect one another. This pattern of understanding and respect coming through association has been seen elsewhere as well. I remember how Negroes and Whites worked alongside one another in New York during the Great War. It was undoubtedly a rough transition, yet because of firm management, very few problems arose as I recall, not a single hate strike occurred during that time. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 34. Social Cognitive Theory Main Concepts Essay Social Cognitive Theory Main Concepts: According to the Social Cognitive Theory, people learn by observation and modeling behavior. Albert Bandura developed the social cognitive theory in 1986. Bandura believes that people obtain knowledge and how to function by modeling behavior from others by interacting with others. The main highlight of his theory is that people learn by observation, imitation and modeling behavior within the social environment (Merriam, 2014)). Individual remember the consequences associated with individual behavior and used this information to guide subsequent behavior. For example, an observed action elicits an instinctive drive to model the behavior. Although the social learning theory states that people learn by observation, learning does not always lead to aggressive behavior. The social cognitive theory (SCT) integrates interaction between behavior, personal factor, cognition and environment which is referred to as the reciprocal causation model However, Bandura does not suggest that these three factors contribute to behavior (Bandura, 2012). Andragogy: On the other hands, andragogy is a theory developed by Malcolm Shepherd Knowles in 1980 s. Andragogy focuses on the science of adult learning and self directive learning. What are the advantages and disadvantages of using swaps rather than these other means? Advantages: There are no capital reserve requirements specific to swaps. Over the years, the industry had made progress in shortening the approval time and improving the predictability of the approval process. At the same time, industry R D expenditures had increased 12.6% over 2003 in the continuing race to find the next big breakthrough product. Like all biotech companies, MoGen faced uncertainty regarding new product creating as well as challenges involved with sustaining a pipeline of future products. Now a competitive threat of follow on biologics or biosimilars began emerging. As drugs neared the end of their patent protection, competitors would produce similar drugs as substitutes. Competitors could not produce the drug exactly, because they did not have access to the original manufacturer s molecular clone or purification process. Thus, biosimilars required their own approval to ensure they performed as safely as the original drugs. For MoGen, this threat was particularly significant in Europe, where several patents were approaching expiration. Funding Needs MoGen needed to ensure a consistent supply of cash to fund R D and to maintain financial flexibility in the face of uncertain challenges an opportunities. MoGen had cited several key areas that would require approximately $10 billion in funding for 2006: 1. • 46. Burke s Nakedness Of Adam And Eve Burke identifies a norm of a naked expulsion of Adam and Eve beginning by 1500, which contradicts the biblical account God made coats of skins and clothed them before forced to leave the Garden of Eden. According to Burke, until about the early 15th century, all Italian iconography of Adam and Eve expulsions were fully clothed or with covered genitalia. Afterwards, Adam and Eve were shown to be fully naked post expulsion from the Garden as seen in Masaccio s infamous Expulsion from Paradise (1423). Burke s ultimate observation on Adam and Eve s portrayal of nakedness after being expelled from Eden is that it serves a purpose beyond the fall of man. An array of various classical texts, Vitruvius On Architecture (c. 15th), Diodorus Library of History (Latin: 1450) and Lucretius s De Rerum Natura (Bracciolini: 1417) which described early human development as naked, wretched and animalistic supports an argument for symbolic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Man s nakedness (i.e. Adam and Eve) symbolically represents his essential state (On Literary Polish 1462), the ability to rise and fall (Oration of the Dignity of Mankind 1486), to create civilization (On Discovery 1499), to rise from bestial conditions, the potential to be clothed, to create dwellings, to craft (Book of Craftsman 1400), to be the first achiever in the entire course of human history. According to Burke, it serves a functional purpose to portray such nakedness, since it visually identifies the couple Adam and Eve from other historical figures in the cycles of uomini famosi during the Quattrocento as well as speaks to the continual potential of man to clothe himself, naturally leading to other human ... • 48. Comparison Of Authority Figures In Romeo And Juliet And... Comparison of Authority Figures in Romeo and Juliet and Shakespeare in Love Stoppard s satirical movie, Shakespeare in Love, is a play on Shakespeare s tragic love story, Romeo and Juliet. Stoppard places Shakespeare himself into a relationship with Viola De Lesseps, that resembles the relationship between Romeo and Juliet. Stoppard incorporates countless parallels into the film from Shakespeare s love story, including the character development of major authority figures. The prince and the queen, Capulet and Viola s father, and the Friar and the Priest are all figures of authority and parallel between the two works; Stoppard gave his cast similarities to Shakespeare s characters, but they also varied in some aspects. Stoppard s decision to both keep some and change some character attributes of these authority figures helps contribute and develop the ending of the movie, just as Shakespeare s character developments contributed to the outcome of his plays. In Romeo and Juliet, the supreme authority is the Prince; he is the governing individual in Verona, Italy where the setting takes place, just as Queen Elizabeth is shown as the highest authority in England in Shakespeare in Love. One key difference between these leaders in the stories is that the Prince is mostly concerned with keeping the peace, while the Queen also appreciates and respects Viola s risk and is excited by Viola and her relationship with Shakespeare. The Queen is exhilarated by the whole ordeal. She ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 52. A Research Article Written By Richard Hartshorne And... Summary In a research article written by Richard Hartshorne and Jennifer Baucom (2007), entitled, Issues Affecting Cross Cultural Adaptation of International Graduate Students Richard, published at the Multicultural Learning and Teaching Journal, the issues or challenges that international graduate students related to cross cultural adaption were investigated. The main idea of the study was that international students need to cope and adjust themselves to a new culture in order to make their learning experiences more meaningful, and in order to achieve this some barriers must be overcome. The main purpose of the study, therefore, was to identify the diverse barriers encountered by international students and then propose ways of overcoming these barriers efficiently. In a much broader sense, the objectives of the study are two fold: to identify and understand the barriers for inter cultural adaptation and then provide recommendations on how to lessen or overcome such barriers with the different stakeholders in mind. The revealed that such barriers are a result in differences in the international students home culture and the new or host culture, the differences in learning environments, and personal uniqueness or the self. Nevertheless, there are also similarities among these four factors. The authors noted that the similarities can be improved and the barriers can be minimized if some initiatives are to be taken. The authors were able to give five initiatives: provide ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 53. Revolt Of The 18th Century At the end of the 18th century, there were many revolts in the Spanish Americas, but these insurgencies didn t have the intention to make these regions independent, in fact they fought corrupt officials and the implementation of the Bourbon reforms, in the name of the king. These revolts didn t evolve into movements of independence because of the remoteness of the cities that they occurred in and the magnitude of the size of the Spanish Americas, the Bourbon reforms weren t set in place at the same time in all corners of the territory, so people did not rise up against them simultaneously, there were deep social divisions at the time, and the political theory and ideas that these movements had weren t those of independence. Although this was true, a few decades later during the 1810 s and 1820 s this Spanish domain, was calling for independence. This desire came about thanks to French invasion of Spain and the capturing of the king which brought many changes to the area. These changes include, the creation of juntas to maintain dominance in the absence of the king, which gave the americanos a slight touch of sovereignty, the creation of the Constitution of 1812 which allowed the freedom of the press, and made Spain a constitutional monarchy, and the return to power of Ferdinand VII and the rejection of these changes which caused social divisions between loyalists and insurgents. First, geography played a part in preventing the revolts from the late 18th century to turn into ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
