Rhetorical Analysis Of John LeoWhen Life Imitates Video
Rhetorical analysis of John Leo essay When life imitates Video.
The Writer of When life imitates Video , John Leo has tried to persuade his readers the reason
why violent video games have negative impact on children s character. The first main goal of his
article is to show the relationship between playing murderous games and violent actions. His
second main goal is to make emotional appeal to parents the need to monitor their child from
exposure of graphic violent medias. Most of his argument comes from his personal believe
otherwise not supported by any evidence except making emotional(pathos) and logical(logos)
appeal by trying to associate violence occurred in the Colorado with violent video games. To
further strengthen his argument, he cited the Los Angles Times which describe the characters
children display while watching morbid video games and he tried to link the aggressive
behavior modeled in the game and violent character. He assume the whole society as his
audience. As he stated it, we are now a society in which the form of play for millions of
youngsters is making a large number of people die .He succeeded in writing and informative and
an emotionally appealing article with a potential of convincing his audience against violent
video games. Leo on his writing has tried to persuade readers without putting concrete facts to
convince his readers. Most of his argument is based on personal belief. He have stated some
violence s which was inflicted by teenagers, which he believes, are caused by video games. The
audiences limitation include basic knowledge of video games since his audience include all
walks of the society. He has tried to convey his main passage to his audience with pathos if we
want to avoid more littleton style massacre, we will begin taking the social effects of the killing
games more seriously by pledging emotionally appeal he tried to influence parents to take measure
against showing violent video games to their children. Ethos directed toward parents. However, his
appeal is not supported by facts with limited knowledge of violent video games. From the reading it
seems that the writer himself is a parent since he appealed how much the youth of the nation is
important.He

Essay On Asian Americans
Asian Americans Asian Americans are a diverse group of people who are among the fastest
growing minority groups in the United States. Despite their minority status, they often surpass
Whites in America and do so while holding on to their cultural values regarding family, education,
and success.
Cultural Values Toward Education The Asian group has strong standards regarding academic
success. The United States Census Bureau reported that the percentage of Asian Americans to
possess a bachelor s degree or higher increased by 54% which shows a significant increase within
the past 20 years (United States Census Bureau, 2016). Throughout much of Asia, children are
taught at an early age to believe that education is the only path to success. While they are a distinct
minority, their indicators of success in terms of education and future income occur because of the
unique style of parenting which is based on the belief of the philosopher Confucius. Within their
culture, they are taught to work on self perfection which will help them achieve self improvement
in qualities such as diligence, determination, and concentration (Seal, 2010). Parents, family
members, and their community assume the responsibility for teaching and disciplining children.
Furthermore, they instill the belief that a child s achievement or lack thereof is a direct reflection
on the efforts of the entire family and community (Chen Uttal, 1988). These types of demands

Packing Peanuts
Part A In the lab we were trying to use qualitative and quantitative statements about the packing
peanut to find the same packing peanut after we put it back in the bag. Part B For the lab we had to
choose a packing peanut out of the bag of packing peanuts. When we picked our packing peanut we
tried to pick one that had some different traits than the other packing peanuts. We wrote down
qualitative statements and quantitative statements about the packing peanut on the lab handout.
After we found some unique things about our packing peanut we put it back in the bag. Then we
mixed the packing peanut together and went through some of the peanut and tried to find our
peanut using the qualitative and quantitative statements that we wrote. After

Poverty In To Kill A Mockingbird
Poverty is not a topic to be pushed to the side for later conversation. It is evident in the streets and
in cities and countries, whether it is liked or not. Many children grow up not knowing the joys of
having whatever they want, whenever they want it, and do not have some necessities in life such as
correct schoolsupplies or decent clothing. Kids have to choose how they are going to deal with
their situation: some are kind and hard workers who try their best in everything they do while the
others play around, are not hard working, have no manners or etiquette, and do not care about their
appearance. Walter Cunningham and Burris Ewell from To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee,
born into poverty, have different views and actions because of their upbringing and the environment
they are born into. Both... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

to take out their lunches, he cannot take any out. The teacher then asks, Did you forget your
lunch this morning? He hesitates, then says he did and Caroline offers him a quarter which he
kindly refuses: Nome thank you ma am, he drawled softly. He was respectful towards his teacher
even though he is poor and cannot afford lunch. Burris comes in hosting a cootie in his dirty
hair. Already messy, he disrespects his teacher when she tells him to go home and clean up
before coming back by saying, Report and be damned to ye! Ain t no snot nosed slut of a

Sticker Case
I begin with identifying what type of costs and expenses are relevant to determine the decision to
make the stickers internally or outsourcing to foreign or local manufacturers. Relevant costs are
costs that could be avoided if dVider decided to outsource the production of stickers to overseas
manufacturers while irrelevant costsare sunk costs such as machinery costthat already purchased
and do not have any impact on the cost analysis of the alternatives because they cannot be avoided
if outsourcing alternative becomes feasible. Therefore, the machinery depreciation expenses will
remain to incur irrespective of whether the stickers are produced internally or sourced externally.
Monthly overhead such as rent, utilities as well as storage expenses,... Show more content on

All fixed costs remain the same and dVider can match the production capacity of foreign suppliers
with minimal capital investment as the production of vinyl stickers is a labor intensive process
2. There would be a substantial increase in demand of vinyl stickers in the near future that could
absorb the available supply
3. The comparison excludes the most complicated designs (the hard segment) and focuses on the
easy and medium level of design difficulties that covers 75 %of the total sticker production
4. Tubing which is the final step in sticker production is assumed to be performed domestically
hence its related costs are not considered in the comparison as it will not be affected by whatever
decision.
5. Quality would not be compromised due to the outsourcing decision
As depicted in the attached comparison worksheet, the bids received from two of the potential
domestic suppliers located in lower wage areas within the United States do not seem attractive in
terms of cost and they are not capable of supporting a potential increase in demand for dVider
brand. I believe outsourcing to supplier 3 located in Shanghai, China could provide better cost
savings and help the various growth opportunities the firm is aiming because of its lowest
production unit cost when ordered in 1000 quantities. With low production lead time, supplier 3
could have the capacity to support an increase in the demand for dVider stickers in the

This will occur, as TPPA planned to tighter the rules for patent and copyright of drugs. This lead
to prices of drugs to increase and could mean monopoly for the pharmaceutical industry. This
also causes the drug prices to be locked in high which there will be less access to generic drugs.
Access to lifesaving medication also will be much harder.Recently, there were protest done by
patients from Members of the Malaysian AIDS Council and HIV Positive. This protest mainly
happened cause of the increase in the cost of treatment for AIDS and HIV. Next,TPPA boost the
corporate power. When TPP come into effect it supports the Multinational Corporations
(MNCs).What happens here is TPP give the power to MNC to sabotage the policies on national
and local levels. Here is where the local condition or regulation is not applicable on this
companies. This literally could wreck the environment as if Malaysia government tries to limit
any of the activities that they find harmful for the country and by doing this if it were to affect the
profitability of MNC, then the MNC has the rights to sue the Malaysia government for the loss.
For instance, all of a sudden Malaysia found out there are certain harmful ingredients in alcohol
produced and decided to ban it which will cause a loss to MNC companies then they have the
rights to sue Malaysia government for the potential

Persuasive Essay About Technology
Look around. Everyone has their faces buried into their phones, laptops, iPads, etc. Many people
would say that technology is taking over in our everyday lives. I, however, beg to differ.
Technology is one of the best things the human race could get their hands on. Yes it seems like
everything is in the Cloud or everyone is tweeting, reposting, Snapchatting, and liking everything.
But how I see it is, a way for people to communicate and share ideas they have with other like
minded people, accomplish papers and essays without having to go to a library because whatever
device you use, has a search engine that can search any question you have. As an aspiring computer
programmer, technology will always play a role in my career because someone is responsible for
the software and programs that allow a computer to run, the world around us is always adapting,
and without technology, where would computer programmersbe? If I received the Evolve IP Cloud
Scholarship, then the scholarship would be able to open so many doors for me because I would be
able to afford continuing my education.
To begin with, as an aspiring computer programmer, technology will always play a role in my
career because someone is responsible for the software and programs that allow a computer to
run.Computer programmers have to make the software and programs so the world can use it. It
didn t just appear there. Someone had to make the plan before it could be something great. Look at
Snapchat. It didn t just start out as an amazing social media application. No, a team of programmers
came together and made the blueprints to what is now a great application for quickly sharing
photos with friends and family. It doesn t stop a just social media applications. There are
educational websites and apps such as Edmodo, where students and teachers can communicate with
one another, find class assignments, and even turn them in electronically. Who do you think had to
have done that?
Furthermore, as an aspiring computer programmer, technology will always play a role in my
career because the world around us is adapting. We didn t get stuck back when medicines, indoor
plumbing, and cars did not exist. So why should we let technology become dated? Computer

Government Intervention In Canada
Canada has always been there to help people who need it. Justin Trudeau A mixed economy
means that one part of the entire economy is being controlled and run by a certain country s
government, while the other half is left to the free market. Most economies of the countries all
over the world are mixed, and they only differ in terms of intervention by the state. This system
usually begins by authorizing private enterprises to run the majority of businesses before the
government intervenes with specific areas of economics, such as inflation protection and taxes.
Today, Canada and the US have different economic systems that are supposed to show what each
country believes and what they value. Canada, for example, has a mixed economy while US... Show

One reason might be with a mixed economy, it allows private participation which in return allows
a healthy competition and that results in profit. It also contributes to public ownership in
manufacturing which also contributed to welfare needs. This, however, can be viewed as too
much government involvement by not always allowing the consumer to decide what s best by
making the choice for what is needed. Yet the system is able to improve the quality of life for
people who have struggles in wealth. This is what keeps our society going. The system may be a
little strenuous for some people to pay but it is for the better of society. Another argument can be
the amount of control in a mixed system. Viewing the government as adding an excessive amount
of boundaries upon certain laws or regulations may seem restricting, but it is what stops something
like a market economy or any economy from tipping into anarchy. I see the drawbacks of this
mixed system, despite that, the positives of the mixed system outweighs such drawbacks.
Additionally, these drawbacks are forever in place to assure the safety of the public

The Marvel And Dc Worlds
There are multiple imaginary universes that have been created but the most commonly known and
loved, are the Marvel and DC worlds. Marvel and DC are universes where human beings, aliens,
and creatures have powers beyond the realty beaten impossibilities. Behind these creations are
masterminds of the imagination, showing how to overcome any problem thrown at their imaginary
characters. These characters are better known, in general, as superheros and villians. The main
difference between these named superpowered heroes are which group they belong to, The Justice
Leaguethat was created by DC, Detective Comics, or the Avengers which was created by Marvel.
Marvel has many different people that contribute to the making of their characters but the main
person who gets most of the credit is former chairman of Marvel, Stan Lee. Stan Lee is well known
author, publisher, editor, television producer and actor. He made many hero groups such as the
fantastic four and the X Men but the one that has launched itself as the biggest group are The
Avengers. The Avengers are Stan Lee s prize turkey. Not only has this group of heros brought
Lee s name into fame, but it gave him great money. Without Lee, the Avengers world would be
nothing and some would say, vice versa. DC, or Detective Comics, does not have a well known
face like Marvel but instead many hard working employees that have come together to create
worlds that compete well with Marvel s. DC s president of the company is Diane

activity in which levels of buying, selling, production, and employment typically diminish. This is
the most unwelcome stage of the business cycle for business owners and consumers alike. A
particularly severe recession is known as a depression.

MOMENTUM Many economists cite a certain follow the leader mentality in consumer spending.
In situations where consumer confidence is high and people adopt more free spending habits, other
customers are deemed to be more likely to increase their spending as well. Conversely, downturns
in spending tend to be imitated as well.
TECHNOLOGICAL INNOVATIONS Technological innovations can have an acute impact on
business cycles. Indeed, technological breakthroughs in communication, transportation,
manufacturing, and other operational areas can have a ripple effect throughout an industry or an
economy. Technological innovations may relate to production and use of a new product or
production of an existing product using a new process. The video imaging and personal computer
industries, for instance, have undergone immense technological innovations in recent years, and the
latter industry in particular has had a pronounced impact on the business operations of countless
organizations. However, technological innovations and consequent increases in investment take
place at irregular intervals. Fluctuating investments, due to variations in the pace of technological
innovations, lead to business fluctuations in the economy.
There are many reasons why the pace of technological innovations varies. Major innovations do not
occur every day. Nor do they take place at a constant rate. Chance factors greatly influence the

Accounting Is The Language Of Business
Introduction
Accounting is the language of business. It is a profession that is being guided by principles,
concepts, conventions, laws, etc. All these fundamental building blocks serve as common and
general compasses to all practitioners of the profession. In some cases, they are nation wide
tailored, while in other cases, they are universally tailored. Accounting as a living, practical,
dynamic and realistic profession covers so many areas of social, economic (business), and

Proximate causes refer to the immediate event that produce a behaviour or some other phenotypic
trait, including genes, hormones and environmental stimuli. They refer to how such developmental
or physiological mechanisms cause something to happen, but they do not explain why they happen
(Thornhill R., Palmer C., 2000). Ultimate causation refers to why behaviours happen, under what
evolutionary pressures of genetic selection the behaviours evolved. It is important to note that
these adapted for traits or behaviours do not necessarily mean that they are something that we
consider to be moral or desirable, but they were good in the terms of natural selection. There is no
connection between what is biological or naturally selected and what is morally right or wrong
(Thornhill R., Palmer C., 2000). People are driven by proximal influences, but these influences may
have been shaped by ultimate causes (Bennell et al., 2011). They are complements to each other,
not alternatives. What is not understood is if the evolutionary cause of human rape is a result of rape
specific adaption or a by product of other adaptions (Thornhill R., Palmer C., 2000).

Mary Shelley s Frankenstein explores several themes that define what it is to be a human. Victor
Frankenstein perceived the monster he created as an evil demon though the book prompts
learners to see the whole story from the monster s perspective. Learners will be forced to
sympathize with the monster as the book unfolds to showcase how he is alienated from a typical

while trying to seek revenge for the injustices of his creator. The themes of love, family, crime and

The monster makes allusion to the Bible arguing that he should have a companion just like
Adam in the Bible rather being treated like a fallen angel. Being his creator, the monster had no
one else to look up to during such occasions. Coexisting with humans, the monster also wanted to
experience love just like any other ordinary person. All that the monster asked was
understanding and acknowledgment that he deserves better than what his creator was willing
to offer. The monster violence attitude to his creator and all those Victor holds dear solidifies
where he places love among its scale of choices. It is evident that it is the absence of love that
prompts the monster to act wild and even commit murder in extreme situations. All this leads to
the deaths of Victor s brother, their house worker and his to be wedded bride who have all killed
the monster in the quest for revenge. The monster had spent time with the De Lacey family and
was well acquainted with the value of love in a social construct. It is through love that people tend
to comfort, console, and enjoy the fun together in a manner that is barely dictated by what unfold
in our environs and everyday lives. Interestingly, Victor s love for Elizabeth almost drove him nuts
after learning that the monster had killed the bride during the wedding day. This forms the climax

Analysis Of Night By Eliezer Wiesel
Image trying to escape a deep hole of misery, with no escape. Night, a book created by Eliezer
Wiesel, is a survival account put into the young Eliezer s view of things, with his father as another
main character. This memoir is an account of a survivor of the holocaust and the horrors he faced
while traveling through the concentration camps. The story keeps up a suspenseful tone until his
father died, leaving him dead inside and emotionless. Eliezer is a completely different man from the
boy learning about Judaism, to the ghostly figure that now occupied his body. His believes in the
beginning were extremely different from the way he thought and acted in the middle and the
end of this memoir. Firstly, Eliezer s actions in the beginning of the memoir is the polar opposite
of some of the ideas and actions he did later in the story. On one of the first pages of this memoir,
a character named Moishe the Beadle is pressuring Eile on why he prays. Eliezer s time in his
Transylvanian town proves how faithful he was to his God, Why do you pray? he asked after a
moment. Why did I pray? Strange question. Why did I live? Why did I breathe? (Wiesel 4). This
quote proves the loyalty and faith he had within him, it would be the same if someone asked him
Why do I breathe? it would be a strange question to ask someone. Furthermore, this proves the
thought that religionwas central to his life, like breathing. Another piece of evidence comes from
the time Eile asked his father if he was able to learn the ways of Kabbalah. Using this quote, I
can prove my point, One day I asked my father to find me a master who could guide me in my
studies of Kabbalah (Wiesel 4). This sentence helps prove the point that Eliezer always wanted to
know more about his religion, even if it meant he had to understand the a completely different
way on how to understand the bible. This idea was relatively new in the world, and this is why
many jews didn t want to even have a chance of betraying God. Although he was extremely passion
about his religion in the beginning of this book, most of these thoughts dissipate by the middle of
the book when he reaches Auschwitz. On the contrary of Eliezer s almost blind believe in this
almighty God, in the

Snyder s 300 Hyperbole
Film is a source of entertainment for thousands of people, however it can also be seen as modern
poetry. Two examples of poetry in film is Snyder s 300 (2006) and Weir s Gallipoli (1981),
Both films have a theme of War one that glorifies it and the other denounces it. Despite the films
being different in genre and mood, both films have strong poetic devices such as hyperbole,
symbolism and repetition.
During Snyder s 300 many forms of hyperbole were used to portray the Glory of War which is
the main theme for the film. An example of hyperbole, which is noticeable throughout the entire
film, is the enhanced colouring to make the figures and scenes appear like a graphic novel. This
is because the original story line was based on Frank Millar s 300 graphic novel series. The end
half of the movie used exaggerated features more often, from the beast like features on Persia s
fighters to Leonidas war cry nearing the end of the final battle. The directors have used this poetic
device to create a stronger sense of emotion for the film.
Weir s Gallipoli had less hyperbole than Snyder s 300, however still used many of the basic aspects
to make the film a form of poetry. When hyperbole was used in the film is was usually before the
main character Archie started running where he was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A symbol constantly used throughout the film was the Spartans no mercy attitude. During the

was then passed down to him. In the final battle Leonidas dropped his shield in order to through
his spear at Xerces in order to prove his statement of Even Gods can bleed. Throughout the entire
film the no mercy attitude of the Spartans was displayed as a sign that these warriors would be far

ISIS Oil Drilling
Around the world, countries are reeling with the losses caused by the increasingly more
powerful terrorist organization, the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS). While undoubtedly
other countries are experiencing greater losses than the U.S., especially those affected
financially by the costs of taking in Syrian refugees or those closer to the conflict, such as those
in the Levant area that have been forcefully taken over by ISIS or robbed by it, the U.S. is

Georgia OKeefe Black Iris Analysis
Description Black Iris is a 1926 painting by artist Georgia O Keefe. The painting is especially
notable for its monumental size and acute attention to detail, which in turn allowed O Keefe to
force[] the viewer to observe the small details that might otherwise be overlooked ( Black Iris ).
This attention is particularly focused on color and form, accentuating the gradation in the
flower from dark purples to light greys and pinks along with the iris s curvaceous shape. O
Keefe produced many similar immense paintings of flowers. Both Black Iris and O Keefe s
other flower works are ostensibly only a large scale portrayal of a flower meant to evoke
appreciation of the objects in nature that often go unnoticed and nothing more. Nonetheless, one
of the most common interpretations of the flowers, and especially Black Iris, is that they are
depictions of female genitalia (Ellis Petersen). Black Iris is said to contain highly evocative and
sensual overtones and a near eroticism (Widewalls Editorial). O Keefe met the interpretations of
works like Black Iris as erotic with vehement denials, stating: I made you take time to look at
what I saw and when you took time to really notice my flower, you hung all your own
associations with flowers on my flower and you write about my flower as if I think and see what
you think and see of the flower and I don t, those associations being that flowers themselves look
like female genitalia ( What do you see in Georgia O Keeffe s flowers? and Widewalls Editorial).
Some who agree with the erotic interpretation of Black Iris and O Keefe s other flowers see the
work as a reclamation of femininity and female sexuality, while others go even further in
identifying O Keefe in a lineage of art by queer women, claiming the work as part of a lesbian
tradition extending back to the eighteenth century ( What do you see ). Platonic Analysis If
reading Black Iris as a portrait of female genitalia disguised as flower, the work takes its place on
the second rung of the Ladder of Love. This second rung involves becoming a lover of all
beautiful bodies rather than just one because the beauty on any body whatever is akin to that on
any other body (Plato 210b). In Symposium,

Ancient Egypt Sports And Games
Abstract:
The ancient Egyptians expected that life after death would follow the general pattern of life on the
earth so they kept in their tombs food to eat, clothing to wear, boats to sail, weapons for war and
sports and games equipment s for their amusement. All the people in Ancient Egypt did many fun
things together. All of them enjoyed the Nile River, such as adults and children that they used to
swim and fished. People went to their temples together, where they worshipped their gods and
watched performances of plays.
Sport in ancient Egypt like all other aspects of ancient Egyptian culture was closely linked up with
religion. During feasts, the public entered the great temples to see and petition their deities and

Do you play games? Maybe you go to the movies. How about listening to music? These are all
things we do for fun and games. What about the Ancient Egyptians? How did they have fun?
From what we have found out, they had lots of fun. They had toys, games, and played pretend.
They listened to musicians. And, they enjoyed sports. Let s see what we can discover. The
history of sport probably extends as far back as the existence of people as purposive sportive and
active beings. Sport has been a useful way for people to increase their mastery of nature and the
environment. Of course, as we go further back in history the dwindling evidence makes the theories
of the origins and purposes of sport difficult to support. Nonetheless, its importance in human
history is undeniable.
Egyptians enjoyed the good life and playing was a part of it, all kings, princes and statesmen were
keen on attending sports competitions, which they encouraged and provided with the necessary
equipment. Children and adults are often depicted involved in games. Typically boys games were
rougher than those of the girls, but the latter weren t above fighting and hair pulling, like the pair in

Compare And Contrast The Behavioural Approach In Psychology
Behaviour approach in psychology
Psychology is the scientific study of human and animal behaviour. There are many approaches to
psychology, which give an insight and they all support one way or another their theories. They
explain the human behaviour based on different circumstances which is not sufficient for someone
to explain all aspects of human behaviour. In this essay I shall discuss what behavioural approach
is, what it s strengths and weaknesses are, than compare it to the biological approach to look at how
they examine depression. The behaviourists believe that behaviour changes is due to the persons
respond to an event in the environment they are in. In contrast psychoanalysts like Sigmund Freud
believe that the human behaviour is totally based on the internal conflict of the unconscious mind.
Behaviourism started as a type of research psychology and for a long time that was how it was seen.
For the best part of the begging of the early 20th century, the behaviourists were just scientists that
were working in high education institutes on psychological research problems. To the behaviourist,
human behaviour has not got anything to do with the inner unconscious conflicts, restraining, or
issues with object representation. To be a little more exact, a behavioural psychologist uses the
concept of learning theory to explain human behaviour. According to behavioural theory, unhelpful
or dysfunctional behaviour such as depression is it learned. Because depression is

Avengers Essay
1.Introduction
The Avengers: Age of Ultron is all set to release on 24th of this month, one week ahead of its
mass release in USA and it is not the first film to do so. I had a massive release in china, where
some crucial sequences were also shot. Furious 7 becomes the first film to cross the 100 crore
mark at the Indian box office. Hollywood films dominating eastern box office and exploring
new locations in the eastern part of the world, Indian actors like Irrfan Khan making their
presence felt in Hollywood films are few examples of growing importance of going global. I still
remember the case of Casino Royale , when the dubbed version was released ahead of the
original English version in Andhra Pradesh, parallel to its world wide release. You just can t
ignore even the regional box office, approximately 13000 km away from the place of production.
Indian movies are slowly catching up in this race of tapping the foreign market. Why is expanding
beyond one s own nation s boundaries is so important for film? Growing budgets which need a
larger audience to recover the investment is one reason. It s not false to say that Hollywood is
able to churn out high budget sci fi action movies ahead of other film industries of the world
because it has a wide market across the world apart from a large domestic market. Factors like
growing spending power of audience in the emerging economies like India and rise in the number
of multiplexes increasing the revenue from a single show are

Essay on Marketing Strategies of BMW
Clearly analyze the external influences affecting the development of the marketing strategy.
There are numerous factors that have an effect on BMW s business and the consequences of its
operations, a few of which are beyond the control of the Company. The following information
below is an explanation of some of the mainly important factors that may cause the definite results
of the Company s operations in potential periods to change essentially from those at present
expected or most wanted.
Additionally, there are 4 macro marketing factors, which all concern
BMW s marketing strategy, and BMW themselves cannot change or influence them. These factors

2) Legal
This includes European Union laws, rebellious behavior, sponsorship of cars (Formula 1) by
tobacco companies, minimum wage and tuition fees.
Many of the legal, economic and social developments, in our own society and in others, are the
direct result of political decisions put into practice, for example, the privatization of state industries
or the control of inflation. Whatever industry the marketing firm is concerned in, changes in the
legal and political environments at both the domestic and intercontinental levels can affect BMW
and consequently need to be fully understood.
3) Economic
This includes interest rates, government policies, rising taxation etc. Economic factors are of
concern to marketing firms since they are all likely to influence among other things, demand, costs,
prices and profits. These economic factors are largely outside the control of the individual firm, but
their effects on individual enterprises can be philosophical. Political and economic armed forces are
often strongly interrelated. As can be seen, changes in world economic forces are potentially highly
momentous to marketing firms, mainly those engaged in international marketing. In addition, a
kind of economic changes and forces in the domestic economy is also of vital importance as,
clearly, it is these factors, which

Why Organisations Need to Change
Why organisations need to change
Change management is relevant as though the research finds that change is taking place at an ever
increasing pace, the evidence suggests that most change initiatives fail. For example, recent CIPD
research suggested that less than 60% of re organisations met their stated objectives which are
usually bottom line improvement. This is consistent with other published research.
The impact of failures to introduce effective change can also be high: loss of market position,
removal of senior management, loss of stakeholder credibility, loss of key employees.
Finally, one organisational response to change is that organisational forms are themselves evolving.
Therefore, the change management response will ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Management need to be aware of these different criteria to ensure they respond appropriately.
Suggested reasons for resistance include: loss of control, shock of new, uncertainty, inconvenience,
threat to status, competence fears. It is important to try to diagnose the cause of employee
resistance as this will help determine the focus of effort in trying to reduce/remove the issue.
What can be done to make change management more effective?
From the issues raised in the section above, it can be seen that change is complex and there is not
a single solution. However, a number of key areas of focus emerge.
Effective leadership is a key enabler as it provides the vision and the rationale for change.
Different styles of leadership have been identified, for example coercive, directive, consultative
and collaborative. These different styles may each be appropriate depending on the type and scale
of change being undertaken. For example, when there is a large scale organisation wide change a
directive style has been identified as most effective.
Appropriate and timely training is frequently identified as key to effective change. Examples of
training requirements might include:
* Project and programme management skills to ensure change initiatives are completed both on
time and to budget.

Coastal Geographic Environment Analysis
How Natural Processes Operate at Coastal Geographic Environment
Natural Processes are actions or events that have natural causes, which result in natural events. The
three main coastal environment processes that operate at Muriwai are Coastal Erosion, Coastal
Transportation and Coastal Deposition.
The elements that interact to produce natural processes are wind, waves and tides. Each
phenomenon at Muriwai s coastal geographic environment has been produced by interaction.
Coastal Erosion is a process at Muriwai that gradually wears away the rock particles of the earth s
surface, transporting them to another location. There are many types of processes that cause

These types of erosion have caused the formation of several phenomena at Muriwai.
Motutara Island (stack) was produced by the formation of two caves on either side of the headland
forming an arch and the roof slowly eroding away due to vertical erosion.
Fisherman s Rock was produced by cliff retreat when undercutting stones are thrust at the cliff by
wave action.
The blowhole was formed by vertical, hydraulic and mechanical erosion causing the cracks and
fissures to enlarge over time to produce this hole.
Types of wave erosion operating on the headland have produced the cave.
Wave Refraction is an important process as it influences wave erosion on Otakamiro headland
and on the beach at Muriwai (refer to Diagram 1). Wave Transportation (Longshore Drift) varies
spatially due to wave refraction. It is the process by which waves alter their course as they interact
in shallow water with the seabed along the coastline. This process produces wave erosion, which
focuses its energy on Otakamiro Point.
Diagram 1
Constructive, Destructive and Dissipative are the types of waves that operate at Muriwai that cause
erosion.
Dissipative waves are the waves usually found at Muriwai they lose their energy before they reach
the shore as they usually break on the offshore bar. Constructive waves are long waves with little
height that leave material at the top of the beach, building it up.
Destructive waves are erosive

Center at Fort Rucker, Alabama was created to train Army aviators in flight training as well as

was set for Army Aviation to grow into the fighting force we know now.
Helicopter Advancement
The Korean Warforced many changes on the way helicopters were used. Most importantly, the
medical evacuation (MEDEVAC) function was a pivotal function Army Aviation could provide
to the ground commanders. The potential of helicopters on the battle field were huge, but there
were some hurdles that needed to be overcome. The Army largely depended on the Marine Corps
experiences in Korea to develop programs of their own (Kreisher, 2011). This inspired the Army
to field the Bell YH 13 as a replacement for the light, fixed wing, observation aircraft. In 1950, less
than two months before the Korean War, the Army approved five transportation rotary wing
companies to begin producing aircraft.
Limitations of Army Helicopters In September, 1950, General J. Lawton Collins asked the Air

helicopters. After a year of debates and meetings, a formal agreement between the Air Force and the
Army removed the weight limitations. The United

Rudyard Kipling s The Jungle Book
The representation of animals within Rudyard Kipling s The Jungle Book is symbolic of the
colonisation of India, advocating the agenda of the British colonisers through the theme of
imperialist oppression. This is particularly evident within the Mowgli story Kaa s Hunting as well
as the animal story Rikki Tikki Tavi . Within the Mowglistory, the theme of imperialist oppression
is conveyed primarily through the Law of the Jungle as Kipling uses Baloo, the Bandar log and
Shere Khan symbolically as justification. Animals within Rikki Tikki Tavi embody this
representation also, reflecting this demonstration of imperialist oppression despite the lack of

Like Shere Khan, Nag and Nagaina represent the resisting of colonial imposition yet are
presented as antagonists despite their celebrated significance within Eastern culture (Veloso de
Abreu 690). The portrayal of these characters as the enemy epitomises Kipling s connotation of
resistance as adverse. Both Nag and Nagaina meet the same fate as Shere Khan to further
reinforce this notion as they die and imperial oppression triumphs. The character of Rikki Tikki
Tavi also holds symbolism within the scheme of Indian colonisation as he is subject of colonial
rule, employed to protect and defend his white masters (Nyman 207). The mongoose sacrifices
his traditional role to live under colonial rule, a choice encouraged as the narrator states that
every well brought up mongoose always hopes to be a house mongoose some day (Kipling). For
both Rikki Tikki Tavi and his masters to live, the antagonists, those who resist imperial oppression,
must die. This is explicit as Nag knows that mongooses in the garden meant death sooner or later
for him and his family (Kipling), once again justifying imperial oppression even without the Law
of the Jungle . The advocating of the agenda of British colonisers through imperial oppression even
extends to the character of Chuchundra as he is afraid of both the coloniser and of standing up to
the coloniser, represented

Space Exploration Argumentative Essay
In 1969, the iconic first steps on the moon drew in 500 million people who watched from their
television screens. Since then, two thirds of Americans say they are interested in space
exploration. What is stopping NASA and other space programs from feeding into Americans
interests? Many argue that space exploration is vital to our society and one day the human race in
its entirety will have no option but to leave Earth in search of a new planet. Others insist the space
programs in America have created some of the world s most useful inventions, ranging from CT
scanners to digital cameras to firefighting equipment; these inventions supposedly prove space
explorations worth. While these statements may have some truth to them, there are multiple
setbacks that make space exploration difficult for American space programs to accomplish, and, in
the end, not worth it at least for now. One of the most significant issues is the cost. According to
Washington Post, funding for space exploration in America is at an all time low of one half percent,

The Daily Show On The Congressional Record
The Daily Show is on the congressional record. It occurred during a debate on the Blunt
Amendment, which would allow employers to decline to provide birth control as part of their
health care plans.
On February 28th, 2012 California Senator Barbara boxer attempted to quote The Daily Show bid
on the floor of the senate. Senator Boxer said: Jon Stewart took this issue on and said: Well, I ll tell
you something, I love Blunt Amendment because he says I am an employer and I believe that
humor is the best medicine.
On March 1st, 2012, Stewart dedicated the entire episode of his show to talk about the Blunt
Amendment and the controversy around it. He, as usual, mocked, poked fun at politicians and
approached the absurdity of passing the bill. The Blunt Amendment was sponsored by Senator
Blunt that would override Obama s Administration s new contraception plan, and allow any
employer to refuse to cover any kind of health case service by citing moral reasons.
The amendment was defeated in the Senate by a vote of 51 to 48. . Staci Beavers argued that Jon
Stewart brought up the Blunt Amendment debate, while no other news or media outlet did.
Example 3: The Zadroga Bill
Jon Stewart attracts considerable news media in many politicized issues. He played an important
role in pressuring lawmakers to pass legislation, providing health care to 9/11 responders, in which
Stewart was credited for the Zadroga bill s passage by the White house and other media and

Supersize Me Documentary Analysis
The Ethos of Participatory Documentaries
When it comes to persuasive drive, classically the appeal for change derives from Aristotle s
ethos, pathos, and logos. By using these three appeals, one could formulate a presentation of
public speaking that tailors best to the target audience. The same logic can be applied to the
modern medium of documentary. According to Bill Nichols, documentary serves as a narrative
form of reality in which the filmmaker layers an argument (Nichols 2010). Some films such as
Ken Burns work or a direct cinema piece such as Salesman relay heavily on factual narratives that
uses logos to convey historical fact almost to the point of an informative lecture. Typically these
types of documentaries are structured in either ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Let s go into more detail with each. According to Nichols, the indexical bond is the connection
between the image and what it represents. Spurlock s experiment gives the audience between the
spectacle indexical bond between his weight gain and health deterioration and the promotion to
not eat fast food. While it doesn t appeal well to scientists, it gives visual appeal to a general
audience. The second reason why the experiment works is that it gives creditability to Spurlock.
While the purpose of ethos in the general sense will be discussed latter on, the experiment serves
as a means in which Spurlock creates creditability. It has this ability because Spurlock shows his
determination and willingness to dive into a potentially dangerous situation in order to create his
message. As the film continues, the documentary allows the audience to empathize with Spurlock s
experience. The last point argues that experiment appeals well to the audience because it is
relatable to everyday life. Unlike with many other documentaries that dives into less recognizable
and unique corners of life, Supersize Me dives right into something that is in front of everybody
every day. This makes it easily applicable with the audience. Now that the front narrative

Changes In Sweetheart Of The Song Tra Bong By Tim O Brien
Topic: War, change
Theme: War changes the soldier s personalities and perceptions.
Thesis: O Brien reveals that no matter what the circumstances were the people who were exposed
to the Vietnam War were greatly affected; O Brien showed this through the changes in Mary Anne
Bell. The Sweetheart of the Song Tra Bong , by Tim O Brien, is a short story about how Mark
Fossie brought Mary Anne Bell, his girlfriend, to the VietnamWar, thinking that this would be the
best thing for both of them. It turns out that Mary Anne s personality and appearance were
drastically altered during the war. This caused a change in their relationship. Mary Anne came into
Vietnam being a pure and curious young girl, but at the end story her personality changes to ... Show

Mary Anne s character showed increasingly inhuman and savage tendencies. She wore a bush hat
and filthy green fatigues; she carried the standard M 16 automatic assault rifle. Her face was
black with charcoal (11). In this sentence, Tim O Brien described the changes that Mary Anne
overcame from this young pure girl to this indigenous person living in a harsh jungle by
describing her attire, a bush hat, M 16, and her face was black with charcoal. Through this
sentence, Mary Anne, the character and behavior of soldiers change throughout the war, because
this pure girl does not turn into a indigenous human like this without any reason. She was also a
part of the land. She was wearing her culottes, her pink sweater, and a necklace of human
tongues (20). In this sentence, Mary Anne is seen as a complete iron hearted and psychotic. Tim
O Brien has a lot of implications in this sentence. First, a human necklace human tongue (20)
shows the character like an insane and heartless soldier changed by war. She wears her culottes,
her pink sweater (20), this sentence is externally shown to the soldiers who want to go back to
when they were pure. However, Tim O Brien also reveals the soldiers would like to return to their
former mental status after the Vietnam War, but the soldiers were already past the point of no
return, they lost their emotions and part of themselves. These the soldiers became too dangerous
due to the circumstances they had been

Analysis Of A Pair Of Silk Stockings
Everyone can be a little greedy sometimes, even if people usually tend to save money, or bargon.
In a short story by Kate Chopin called A Pair of Silk Stockings, the main character named Mrs
Sommer s is given 15$, and was suppose to spend the money on her children for clothes, but instead
spended it on herself for a pair of silkstockings. Mrs. Sommer s catches herself looking at a pair
of silk stocking s while out shopping, and is suppose to be getting clothes and such for her
children. But what really happens is she lets her temptation get the best of her, and she ends up
buying the socks for herself instead. Once she gets the socks she then wants more and more and
even go out to a fancy restaurant, some boots, and even theatre tickets. But once she leaves the
theatre, it then hit her that she has to go home to her children in which she did not get them the
things she promised them. A dominant theme that Kate Chopin develops in the story focuses
around thoughts and conditions of the past. She shows in the story that Mrs. Sommer s has a
normal daily routine, and a boring lifestyle. The day she saw the silk stockings, she focused on
only herself when usually she always cares for her children. Throughout the short story, A Pair of
Silk Stockings, Kate Chopin uses figurative language and conflict to develop the theme of thoughts
and conditions of the past. Figurative language can emphasize the meaning of a short story when
developed correctly. Chopin develops figurative language to show Mrs. Sommer s selfishness for
the short story.
The story shows figurative language by using things like a metaphor when describing how the
main character feels. The author shows figurative language when it says She smiled just as if she
had been asked to inspect of a tiara made of diamonds. (Chopin 438)
This quote represents the theme of thoughts and conditions of the past because Mrs. Sommer s is
a bargainer with herself and children, and never spends a lot of money or buys expensive things.
She tends to go on the cheaper side, and go to places like thrift stores, or buys discounts. So when
she sees the silk stockings, it was a luxury for her, something special that she use to have.

dignity because he could no longer interact with other humans. It was the author s idea of the
worst case scenario that could have occurred to a soldier who was injured. The description of his
injuries gave the reader a picture of what it would be like to have lived with no legs, arms, or a face.
It was a gruesome thought that helped personalize the story by making the reader feel bad for the
main character. At this time many perceived fighting in a war to be noble but for most of the
soldiers it was anything but noble.
Many times television shows, movies, and books had glamorized war, but that was not the truth.
This book showed the harsh reality of war that most people didn t know existed at the time. War is

Obviously this is not a good solution, which is why we must find other ways to solve our disputes.
This book changed my attitude towards war and the men who fight in them.
As evidenced from the past tense verb in the title of the novel, Johnny Got His Gun takes as its
focus the aftermath of war for a soldier, rather than the optimistic, patriotic prewar time frame
upon which other novels as well as the original song quot;Johnny Get Your Gun quot; focus.
Although the novel remains clear about the fact that Johnny received his injuries from an
exploding shell, Johnny does not ever think back to combat warfare. The novel takes as its
opponent not combat warfare but rather the mentality of warfare and organization of modern
warfare by the moneyed classes. Joe s memories related to the war, such as the Lazarus story, or
the story of the man with a flap over his stomach, do not directly deal with warfare. Instead, these
various memories create a sense of the incomprehensible decay, injury, and pain that result from
war. Joe remembers the stories with a wry tone that gives a sense of the absurdity of each of the
situations such as the rumor about the man who lost his face only to return home and die at his
wife s hands. In this sense, the use of the war in the text remains true to its use in the title of the
novel: the war exists as a precondition for senseless and grotesque injury and

Speech On Conservation Of Pollution
Pollution: the presence in or introduction into the environment of a substance or thing that has
harmful or poisonous effects. Over the years pollution has become a growing epidemic that, when
taken into the proper hands, can be stopped. Many citizen would argue that caring for the earth is
too much work, unrealistic to solve, and unaffordable. Citizens should understand that earth is an
amazing home and should not be taken for granted. Although most people do not see the earth as
dying, but rather see it as a home, the government should require conservation for all citizens
because of the condition the earth is in, future generations, and preventable outcomes. With earth s
unstable conditions growing, government officials need to implement conservation by advocating
all citizens to put an end to pollution. Even though all the problems are not going to be solved
within a day, it is still necessary to understand and learn about crises such as this one. The author
says the economy thrives off of, general equilibrium models.
Unstable conditions will last over time, but with a little push by the government it forces people to
become aware of different problems and makes them take baby steps into solving the
epidemic.Carbon dioxide is one of the leading causes in the destruction of the ozone layer, through
the reduction of this harmful gas it can help the earths unstable condition. In the text, people use

Essay on The Postmodernist Impulse and Sam Shepard
The term postmodernism is applied to several disciplines which include architecture, art, literature,
music, film, sociology, cultural and media studies, visual arts, philosophy, history. Communications
and technology. The beginning of postmodernism is quite unclear, however, it emerged as an area
of academic study in mid 1980s. Postmodernismis an outcome of the deep changes in social and
political life style in post industrialized societies with an attitude to question the truth and authority
put forth by such conditions. Critics have constantly been debating about the treatment of the prefix
post in postmodernism . According to some critics, the post designates a process of historical
succession. For them,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An uncomplicated way to think about postmodernism is by thinking about modernism, a movement
from which postmodernism seems to have emerged. Modernism evolved as a movement which
rejected the old Victorian standards about what art should mean. Figures like James Joyce, Virginia
Woolf, T.S. Eliot, Ezra Pound, Franz Kafka, and Mallarme are considered to be the originators of
twentieth century modernism. Modernism is characterized by an emphasis on subjectivity in
writing, a focus on how rather than what is perceived, an emphasis on fragmented forms and
narratives, a self consciousness regarding the production of the work of art , a rejection of genre
distinctions and a rejection of the distinction between high and low or popular culture.
Postmodernism does follow majority of these modernist ideas. However, there are some practical
differences between modernism and postmodernism. While modernism tends to present a
fragmented view of human subjectivity, it presents the fragmentation as something tragic,
something to be lamented as a loss. Modernists aim at unity, wholeness and totality, a unified set of
values, a unified culture and lifestyle. In contrast, Postmodernism, doesn t lament the idea of
fragmentation, but rather celebrates that. Linda Hutcheon says whereas in modernist one sensed a
kind of wishful call to continuity beneath the fragmented echoing, in

Competition As A Monopolistic Competition
Competition in Smartphone Markets
Introduction
The competition in Smartphone Markets is a monopolistic competition, in which the products of
each firm are differentiated and the entry barrier is free. Products competing in the network
industries have network externalities.
Accordingly, this essay will deal with the following aspects of the question. Initially, the concept of
the monopolistic competition is present. Follow by the idea of the network effect theory. The multi
sided market and the core business strategies is analyzed and finally, the examination of the future
of the smartphone competition is shown.
What is the monopolistic competition ?
Monopolistic competition refers to a competition where monopoly exists, and is neither a perfect
competition nor an oligopoly. As the market competition become intense, the distribution of
resource becomes rational; therefore, the level of competition in the monopolistic competition is
more intense than it is in the oligopoly and perfect competition (Roberts et al, 1977). Another
reason caused this is that the products in the monopolistic competition can be easily replaced.
Nowadays, smartphones of different brands are similar on their appearance, details and even
functions. The conditions for a monopolistic competition to exist are as follows. Initially, the
products in the competition have to be differentiated. The differences can be in the quality of the
products, the appearance, the label or the sales conditions.

Role Of The 21st Century Public School Superintendent
In corporate America, the expectation for a CEO is to increase profits and to project a positive
public image for the corporation. The role of the 21st century public school Superintendent often
mirrors that of a corporate CEO. The superintendent is responsible for a multi million dollar
budget, the management of a large employee pool, and the expectations for high stakes profits are
in the form of standardized assessment scores. Just as the CEO is expected to produce an increase
in profits, the schoolSuperintendent is accountable for, and is expected to produce, a yearly
increase in test scores. Whittle (2005) contrasts the stability of CEOs in major corporations with the

Kentucky is worth examining as it has a vast rural area and as it was the first state to implement
one of the most large scale educational reforms in the country.
Purpose of Literature Review
The purpose of this Literature Review is to examine the literature related to the question: Does a
relationship exist between school superintendent tenure and student academic success? Through
this research, the researcher discovered that there is very little research on the topic. Moreover, the
research that does exist is focused on large, urban districts. Thus, there is a gap in the literature as it
relates to rural schools, such as many of those found in the state of Kentucky.
Development of the Superintendent as Instructional Leader
The role of the Superintendent has changed dramatically over the years. The office of
superintendent as it is known today is much more recent in the history of education in America.
Historically, the need for a school district superintendent rose with the growth and the changes in
public schools in America. The first position known as school district superintendent was created in
the late 1830s. By most accounts, the very first district superintendents were appointed in Buffalo,
New York and Louisville, Kentucky (Grieder, Pierce, Jordan, 1969).
By 1850, 13 city school districts had created this position (Kowalski, 2006).
This new position was necessary to accommodate the changing look of schools (Kowalski, 2006).

  • 2. Rhetorical Analysis Of John LeoWhen Life Imitates Video Rhetorical analysis of John Leo essay When life imitates Video. The Writer of When life imitates Video , John Leo has tried to persuade his readers the reason why violent video games have negative impact on children s character. The first main goal of his article is to show the relationship between playing murderous games and violent actions. His second main goal is to make emotional appeal to parents the need to monitor their child from exposure of graphic violent medias. Most of his argument comes from his personal believe otherwise not supported by any evidence except making emotional(pathos) and logical(logos) appeal by trying to associate violence occurred in the Colorado with violent video games. To further strengthen his argument, he cited the Los Angles Times which describe the characters children display while watching morbid video games and he tried to link the aggressive behavior modeled in the game and violent character. He assume the whole society as his audience. As he stated it, we are now a society in which the form of play for millions of youngsters is making a large number of people die .He succeeded in writing and informative and an emotionally appealing article with a potential of convincing his audience against violent video games. Leo on his writing has tried to persuade readers without putting concrete facts to convince his readers. Most of his argument is based on personal belief. He have stated some violence s which was inflicted by teenagers, which he believes, are caused by video games. The audiences limitation include basic knowledge of video games since his audience include all walks of the society. He has tried to convey his main passage to his audience with pathos if we want to avoid more littleton style massacre, we will begin taking the social effects of the killing games more seriously by pledging emotionally appeal he tried to influence parents to take measure against showing violent video games to their children. • 3. Essay On Asian Americans Asian Americans Asian Americans are a diverse group of people who are among the fastest growing minority groups in the United States. Despite their minority status, they often surpass Whites in America and do so while holding on to their cultural values regarding family, education, and success. Cultural Values Toward Education The Asian group has strong standards regarding academic success. The United States Census Bureau reported that the percentage of Asian Americans to possess a bachelor s degree or higher increased by 54% which shows a significant increase within the past 20 years (United States Census Bureau, 2016). Throughout much of Asia, children are taught at an early age to believe that education is the only path to success. While they are a distinct minority, their indicators of success in terms of education and future income occur because of the unique style of parenting which is based on the belief of the philosopher Confucius. Within their culture, they are taught to work on self perfection which will help them achieve self improvement in qualities such as diligence, determination, and concentration (Seal, 2010). Parents, family members, and their community assume the responsibility for teaching and disciplining children. Furthermore, they instill the belief that a child s achievement or lack thereof is a direct reflection on the efforts of the entire family and community (Chen Uttal, 1988). These types of demands coupled with academic ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Poverty In To Kill A Mockingbird Poverty is not a topic to be pushed to the side for later conversation. It is evident in the streets and in cities and countries, whether it is liked or not. Many children grow up not knowing the joys of having whatever they want, whenever they want it, and do not have some necessities in life such as correct schoolsupplies or decent clothing. Kids have to choose how they are going to deal with their situation: some are kind and hard workers who try their best in everything they do while the others play around, are not hard working, have no manners or etiquette, and do not care about their appearance. Walter Cunningham and Burris Ewell from To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee, born into poverty, have different views and actions because of their upbringing and the environment they are born into. He was respectful towards his teacher even though he is poor and cannot afford lunch. Burris comes in hosting a cootie in his dirty hair. Already messy, he disrespects his teacher when she tells him to go home and clean up before coming back by saying, Report and be damned to ye! Ain t no snot nosed slut of a schoolteacher ever born c n make me do nothin ! You ain t makin me go nowhere, missus. You just remember that, you ain t makin me go nowhere! • 6. Sticker Case I begin with identifying what type of costs and expenses are relevant to determine the decision to make the stickers internally or outsourcing to foreign or local manufacturers. Relevant costs are costs that could be avoided if dVider decided to outsource the production of stickers to overseas manufacturers while irrelevant costsare sunk costs such as machinery costthat already purchased and do not have any impact on the cost analysis of the alternatives because they cannot be avoided if outsourcing alternative becomes feasible. Therefore, the machinery depreciation expenses will remain to incur irrespective of whether the stickers are produced internally or sourced externally. Monthly overhead such as rent, utilities as well as storage expenses,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... All fixed costs remain the same and dVider can match the production capacity of foreign suppliers with minimal capital investment as the production of vinyl stickers is a labor intensive process 2. There would be a substantial increase in demand of vinyl stickers in the near future that could absorb the available supply 3. The comparison excludes the most complicated designs (the hard segment) and focuses on the easy and medium level of design difficulties that covers 75 %of the total sticker production 4. Tubing which is the final step in sticker production is assumed to be performed domestically hence its related costs are not considered in the comparison as it will not be affected by whatever decision. 5. Quality would not be compromised due to the outsourcing decision As depicted in the attached comparison worksheet, the bids received from two of the potential domestic suppliers located in lower wage areas within the United States do not seem attractive in terms of cost and they are not capable of supporting a potential increase in demand for dVider brand. I believe outsourcing to supplier 3 located in Shanghai, China could provide better cost savings and help the various growth opportunities the firm is aiming because of its lowest production unit cost when ordered in 1000 quantities. With low production lead time, supplier 3 could have the capacity to support an increase in the demand for dVider stickers in the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. Persuasive Essay About Technology Look around. Everyone has their faces buried into their phones, laptops, iPads, etc. Many people would say that technology is taking over in our everyday lives. I, however, beg to differ. Technology is one of the best things the human race could get their hands on. Yes it seems like everything is in the Cloud or everyone is tweeting, reposting, Snapchatting, and liking everything. But how I see it is, a way for people to communicate and share ideas they have with other like minded people, accomplish papers and essays without having to go to a library because whatever device you use, has a search engine that can search any question you have. As an aspiring computer programmer, technology will always play a role in my career because someone is responsible for the software and programs that allow a computer to run, the world around us is always adapting, and without technology, where would computer programmersbe? If I received the Evolve IP Cloud Scholarship, then the scholarship would be able to open so many doors for me because I would be able to afford continuing my education. To begin with, as an aspiring computer programmer, technology will always play a role in my career because someone is responsible for the software and programs that allow a computer to run.Computer programmers have to make the software and programs so the world can use it. It didn t just appear there. Someone had to make the plan before it could be something great. Look at Snapchat. It didn t just start out as an amazing social media application. No, a team of programmers came together and made the blueprints to what is now a great application for quickly sharing photos with friends and family. It doesn t stop a just social media applications. There are educational websites and apps such as Edmodo, where students and teachers can communicate with one another, find class assignments, and even turn them in electronically. Who do you think had to have done that? Furthermore, as an aspiring computer programmer, technology will always play a role in my career because the world around us is adapting. • 10. Government Intervention In Canada Canada has always been there to help people who need it. Justin Trudeau A mixed economy means that one part of the entire economy is being controlled and run by a certain country s government, while the other half is left to the free market. Most economies of the countries all over the world are mixed, and they only differ in terms of intervention by the state. This system usually begins by authorizing private enterprises to run the majority of businesses before the government intervenes with specific areas of economics, such as inflation protection and taxes. Today, Canada and the US have different economic systems that are supposed to show what each country believes and what they value. Canada, for example, has a mixed economy while US... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One reason might be with a mixed economy, it allows private participation which in return allows a healthy competition and that results in profit. It also contributes to public ownership in manufacturing which also contributed to welfare needs. This, however, can be viewed as too much government involvement by not always allowing the consumer to decide what s best by making the choice for what is needed. Yet the system is able to improve the quality of life for people who have struggles in wealth. This is what keeps our society going. The system may be a little strenuous for some people to pay but it is for the better of society. Another argument can be the amount of control in a mixed system. Viewing the government as adding an excessive amount of boundaries upon certain laws or regulations may seem restricting, but it is what stops something like a market economy or any economy from tipping into anarchy. I see the drawbacks of this mixed system, despite that, the positives of the mixed system outweighs such drawbacks. All that the monster asked was understanding and acknowledgment that he deserves better than what his creator was willing to offer. • 21. Analysis Of Night By Eliezer Wiesel Image trying to escape a deep hole of misery, with no escape. Night, a book created by Eliezer Wiesel, is a survival account put into the young Eliezer s view of things, with his father as another main character. This memoir is an account of a survivor of the holocaust and the horrors he faced while traveling through the concentration camps. The story keeps up a suspenseful tone until his father died, leaving him dead inside and emotionless. Eliezer is a completely different man from the boy learning about Judaism, to the ghostly figure that now occupied his body. His believes in the beginning were extremely different from the way he thought and acted in the middle and the end of this memoir. Firstly, Eliezer s actions in the beginning of the memoir is the polar opposite of some of the ideas and actions he did later in the story. On one of the first pages of this memoir, a character named Moishe the Beadle is pressuring Eile on why he prays. Eliezer s time in his Transylvanian town proves how faithful he was to his God, Why do you pray? he asked after a moment. Why did I pray? Strange question. Why did I live? Why did I breathe? (Wiesel 4). This quote proves the loyalty and faith he had within him, it would be the same if someone asked him Why do I breathe? it would be a strange question to ask someone. Furthermore, this proves the thought that religionwas central to his life, like breathing. Another piece of evidence comes from the time Eile asked his father if he was able to learn the ways of Kabbalah. Using this quote, I can prove my point, One day I asked my father to find me a master who could guide me in my studies of Kabbalah (Wiesel 4). This sentence helps prove the point that Eliezer always wanted to know more about his religion, even if it meant he had to understand the a completely different way on how to understand the bible. This idea was relatively new in the world, and this is why many jews didn t want to even have a chance of betraying God. Although he was extremely passion about his religion in the beginning of this book, most of these thoughts dissipate by the middle of the book when he reaches Auschwitz. Two examples of poetry in film is Snyder s 300 (2006) and Weir s Gallipoli (1981), Both films have a theme of War one that glorifies it and the other denounces it. Despite the films being different in genre and mood, both films have strong poetic devices such as hyperbole, symbolism and repetition. During Snyder s 300 many forms of hyperbole were used to portray the Glory of War which is the main theme for the film. An example of hyperbole, which is noticeable throughout the entire film, is the enhanced colouring to make the figures and scenes appear like a graphic novel. This is because the original story line was based on Frank Millar s 300 graphic novel series. The end half of the movie used exaggerated features more often, from the beast like features on Persia s fighters to Leonidas war cry nearing the end of the final battle. The directors have used this poetic device to create a stronger sense of emotion for the film. Weir s Gallipoli had less hyperbole than Snyder s 300, however still used many of the basic aspects to make the film a form of poetry. • 25. Georgia OKeefe Black Iris Analysis Description Black Iris is a 1926 painting by artist Georgia O Keefe. The painting is especially notable for its monumental size and acute attention to detail, which in turn allowed O Keefe to force[] the viewer to observe the small details that might otherwise be overlooked ( Black Iris ). This attention is particularly focused on color and form, accentuating the gradation in the flower from dark purples to light greys and pinks along with the iris s curvaceous shape. O Keefe produced many similar immense paintings of flowers. Both Black Iris and O Keefe s other flower works are ostensibly only a large scale portrayal of a flower meant to evoke appreciation of the objects in nature that often go unnoticed and nothing more. Nonetheless, one of the most common interpretations of the flowers, and especially Black Iris, is that they are depictions of female genitalia (Ellis Petersen). Black Iris is said to contain highly evocative and sensual overtones and a near eroticism (Widewalls Editorial). O Keefe met the interpretations of works like Black Iris as erotic with vehement denials, stating: I made you take time to look at what I saw and when you took time to really notice my flower, you hung all your own associations with flowers on my flower and you write about my flower as if I think and see what you think and see of the flower and I don t, those associations being that flowers themselves look like female genitalia ( What do you see in Georgia O Keeffe s flowers? and Widewalls Editorial). Some who agree with the erotic interpretation of Black Iris and O Keefe s other flowers see the work as a reclamation of femininity and female sexuality, while others go even further in identifying O Keefe in a lineage of art by queer women, claiming the work as part of a lesbian tradition extending back to the eighteenth century ( What do you see ). Platonic Analysis If reading Black Iris as a portrait of female genitalia disguised as flower, the work takes its place on the second rung of the Ladder of Love. This second rung involves becoming a lover of all beautiful bodies rather than just one because the beauty on any body whatever is akin to that on any other body (Plato 210b). In Symposium, ... There are many approaches to psychology, which give an insight and they all support one way or another their theories. They explain the human behaviour based on different circumstances which is not sufficient for someone to explain all aspects of human behaviour. In this essay I shall discuss what behavioural approach is, what it s strengths and weaknesses are, than compare it to the biological approach to look at how they examine depression. The behaviourists believe that behaviour changes is due to the persons respond to an event in the environment they are in. In contrast psychoanalysts like Sigmund Freud believe that the human behaviour is totally based on the internal conflict of the unconscious mind. Behaviourism started as a type of research psychology and for a long time that was how it was seen. For the best part of the begging of the early 20th century, the behaviourists were just scientists that were working in high education institutes on psychological research problems. To the behaviourist, human behaviour has not got anything to do with the inner unconscious conflicts, restraining, or issues with object representation. Hollywood films dominating eastern box office and exploring new locations in the eastern part of the world, Indian actors like Irrfan Khan making their presence felt in Hollywood films are few examples of growing importance of going global. I?m not sure how healthy that is in real life, but it seems to be comforting to Josie in this movie. Even the closest women friends do not talk about everything. Nina has just gotten out of a long and unproductive relationship with another man and the thought of jumping right back into that is too much for her. So when she says that ?This is no love thang; me and Darius are just kickin it.? I think she means it. She does not want to contradict something she said earlier in the movie to Josie. She said she isn?t going to make the same mistake twice. And that mistake is falling in love because as Nina says, ?it is as played out as the A track?. In another scene the two women are at the Sanctuary, which is the club where Nina met Darius. They come to the club straight from the train station because Nina wants to see if Darius is there. Darius and Nina have gone through a separation period so she is anxious to see him but doesn?t want to call him this soon so she just hopes to run into him. He isn?t there and Nina is really tired and wants to go home. She never comes out and says that is her motivation but her girl knows her and she knows her motivation. Hamlet And Ophelia Essay Hamlet becomes corrupted by his greed for the crown, affecting not just his relationships with his friends and his mother, but seems to spread it like a disease to Ophelia. As the play begins and both Hamlet and Ophelia are introduced in their own times, the personalities and mannerisms of the two seem to be clear. However, as the play progresses, events cause these appearances to blur and change. The play begins with Prince Hamlethaving just arrived back in Denmark after the sudden death of his father, the king. Rudyard Kipling s The Jungle Book The representation of animals within Rudyard Kipling s The Jungle Book is symbolic of the colonisation of India, advocating the agenda of the British colonisers through the theme of imperialist oppression. This is particularly evident within the Mowgli story Kaa s Hunting as well as the animal story Rikki Tikki Tavi . Within the Mowglistory, the theme of imperialist oppression is conveyed primarily through the Law of the Jungle as Kipling uses Baloo, the Bandar log and Shere Khan symbolically as justification. Like Shere Khan, Nag and Nagaina represent the resisting of colonial imposition yet are presented as antagonists despite their celebrated significance within Eastern culture (Veloso de Abreu 690). The portrayal of these characters as the enemy epitomises Kipling s connotation of resistance as adverse. Both Nag and Nagaina meet the same fate as Shere Khan to further reinforce this notion as they die and imperial oppression triumphs. The character of Rikki Tikki Tavi also holds symbolism within the scheme of Indian colonisation as he is subject of colonial rule, employed to protect and defend his white masters (Nyman 207). The mongoose sacrifices his traditional role to live under colonial rule, a choice encouraged as the narrator states that every well brought up mongoose always hopes to be a house mongoose some day (Kipling). For both Rikki Tikki Tavi and his masters to live, the antagonists, those who resist imperial oppression, must die. This is explicit as Nag knows that mongooses in the garden meant death sooner or later for him and his family (Kipling), once again justifying imperial oppression even without the Law of the Jungle . The advocating of the agenda of British colonisers through imperial oppression even extends to the character of Chuchundra as he is afraid of both the coloniser and of standing up to the coloniser, represented ... • 39. Space Exploration Argumentative Essay In 1969, the iconic first steps on the moon drew in 500 million people who watched from their television screens. Since then, two thirds of Americans say they are interested in space exploration. What is stopping NASA and other space programs from feeding into Americans interests? Many argue that space exploration is vital to our society and one day the human race in its entirety will have no option but to leave Earth in search of a new planet. Others insist the space programs in America have created some of the world s most useful inventions, ranging from CT scanners to digital cameras to firefighting equipment; these inventions supposedly prove space explorations worth. While these statements may have some truth to them, there are multiple setbacks that make space exploration difficult for American space programs to accomplish, and, in the end, not worth it at least for now. One of the most significant issues is the cost. According to Washington Post, funding for space exploration in America is at an all time low of one half percent, reduced from four percent of America s government spending. Senator Boxer said: Jon Stewart took this issue on and said: Well, I ll tell you something, I love Blunt Amendment because he says I am an employer and I believe that humor is the best medicine. On March 1st, 2012, Stewart dedicated the entire episode of his show to talk about the Blunt Amendment and the controversy around it. He, as usual, mocked, poked fun at politicians and approached the absurdity of passing the bill. The Blunt Amendment was sponsored by Senator Blunt that would override Obama s Administration s new contraception plan, and allow any employer to refuse to cover any kind of health case service by citing moral reasons. The amendment was defeated in the Senate by a vote of 51 to 48. . Staci Beavers argued that Jon Stewart brought up the Blunt Amendment debate, while no other news or media outlet did. • 41. Supersize Me Documentary Analysis The Ethos of Participatory Documentaries When it comes to persuasive drive, classically the appeal for change derives from Aristotle s ethos, pathos, and logos. By using these three appeals, one could formulate a presentation of public speaking that tailors best to the target audience. The same logic can be applied to the modern medium of documentary. According to Bill Nichols, documentary serves as a narrative form of reality in which the filmmaker layers an argument (Nichols 2010). Some films such as Ken Burns work or a direct cinema piece such as Salesman relay heavily on factual narratives that uses logos to convey historical fact almost to the point of an informative lecture. Typically these types of documentaries are structured in either ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Let s go into more detail with each. According to Nichols, the indexical bond is the connection between the image and what it represents. Spurlock s experiment gives the audience between the spectacle indexical bond between his weight gain and health deterioration and the promotion to not eat fast food. While it doesn t appeal well to scientists, it gives visual appeal to a general audience. The second reason why the experiment works is that it gives creditability to Spurlock. While the purpose of ethos in the general sense will be discussed latter on, the experiment serves as a means in which Spurlock creates creditability. It has this ability because Spurlock shows his determination and willingness to dive into a potentially dangerous situation in order to create his message. As the film continues, the documentary allows the audience to empathize with Spurlock s experience. The last point argues that experiment appeals well to the audience because it is relatable to everyday life. Unlike with many other documentaries that dives into less recognizable and unique corners of life, Supersize Me dives right into something that is in front of everybody every day. This makes it easily applicable with the audience. Now that the front narrative ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 45. Analysis Of A Pair Of Silk Stockings Everyone can be a little greedy sometimes, even if people usually tend to save money, or bargon. In a short story by Kate Chopin called A Pair of Silk Stockings, the main character named Mrs Sommer s is given 15$, and was suppose to spend the money on her children for clothes, but instead spended it on herself for a pair of silkstockings. Mrs. Sommer s catches herself looking at a pair of silk stocking s while out shopping, and is suppose to be getting clothes and such for her children. But what really happens is she lets her temptation get the best of her, and she ends up buying the socks for herself instead. Once she gets the socks she then wants more and more and even go out to a fancy restaurant, some boots, and even theatre tickets. But once she leaves the theatre, it then hit her that she has to go home to her children in which she did not get them the things she promised them. A dominant theme that Kate Chopin develops in the story focuses around thoughts and conditions of the past. She shows in the story that Mrs. Sommer s has a normal daily routine, and a boring lifestyle. The day she saw the silk stockings, she focused on only herself when usually she always cares for her children. Throughout the short story, A Pair of Silk Stockings, Kate Chopin uses figurative language and conflict to develop the theme of thoughts and conditions of the past. Figurative language can emphasize the meaning of a short story when developed correctly. Chopin develops figurative language to show Mrs. Sommer s selfishness for the short story. The story shows figurative language by using things like a metaphor when describing how the main character feels. The author shows figurative language when it says She smiled just as if she had been asked to inspect of a tiara made of diamonds. (Chopin 438) This quote represents the theme of thoughts and conditions of the past because Mrs. Sommer s is a bargainer with herself and children, and never spends a lot of money or buys expensive things. She tends to go on the cheaper side, and go to places like thrift stores, or buys discounts. So when she sees the silk stockings, it was a luxury for her, something special that she use to have. ... It was a gruesome thought that helped personalize the story by making the reader feel bad for the main character. At this time many perceived fighting in a war to be noble but for most of the soldiers it was anything but noble. This book changed my attitude towards war and the men who fight in them. As evidenced from the past tense verb in the title of the novel, Johnny Got His Gun takes as its focus the aftermath of war for a soldier, rather than the optimistic, patriotic prewar time frame upon which other novels as well as the original song quot;Johnny Get Your Gun quot; focus. Although the novel remains clear about the fact that Johnny received his injuries from an exploding shell, Johnny does not ever think back to combat warfare. The novel takes as its opponent not combat warfare but rather the mentality of warfare and organization of modern warfare by the moneyed classes. Joe s memories related to the war, such as the Lazarus story, or the story of the man with a flap over his stomach, do not directly deal with warfare. Instead, these various memories create a sense of the incomprehensible decay, injury, and pain that result from war. Joe remembers the stories with a wry tone that gives a sense of the absurdity of each of the situations such as the rumor about the man who lost his face only to return home and die at his wife s hands. In this sense, the use of the war in the text remains true to its use in the title of the novel: the war exists as a precondition for senseless and grotesque injury and ... Many citizen would argue that caring for the earth is too much work, unrealistic to solve, and unaffordable. Citizens should understand that earth is an amazing home and should not be taken for granted. Although most people do not see the earth as dying, but rather see it as a home, the government should require conservation for all citizens because of the condition the earth is in, future generations, and preventable outcomes. With earth s unstable conditions growing, government officials need to implement conservation by advocating all citizens to put an end to pollution. Even though all the problems are not going to be solved within a day, it is still necessary to understand and learn about crises such as this one. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... An uncomplicated way to think about postmodernism is by thinking about modernism, a movement from which postmodernism seems to have emerged. Modernism evolved as a movement which rejected the old Victorian standards about what art should mean. Figures like James Joyce, Virginia Woolf, T.S. Eliot, Ezra Pound, Franz Kafka, and Mallarme are considered to be the originators of twentieth century modernism. Modernism is characterized by an emphasis on subjectivity in writing, a focus on how rather than what is perceived, an emphasis on fragmented forms and narratives, a self consciousness regarding the production of the work of art , a rejection of genre distinctions and a rejection of the distinction between high and low or popular culture. Postmodernism does follow majority of these modernist ideas. However, there are some practical differences between modernism and postmodernism. While modernism tends to present a fragmented view of human subjectivity, it presents the fragmentation as something tragic, something to be lamented as a loss. Modernists aim at unity, wholeness and totality, a unified set of values, a unified culture and lifestyle. In contrast, Postmodernism, doesn t lament the idea of fragmentation, but rather celebrates that. Competition As A Monopolistic Competition Competition in Smartphone Markets Introduction The competition in Smartphone Markets is a monopolistic competition, in which the products of each firm are differentiated and the entry barrier is free. Products competing in the network industries have network externalities. Accordingly, this essay will deal with the following aspects of the question. Initially, the concept of the monopolistic competition is present. Follow by the idea of the network effect theory. The multi sided market and the core business strategies is analyzed and finally, the examination of the future of the smartphone competition is shown. What is the monopolistic competition ? Monopolistic competition refers to a competition where monopoly exists, and is neither a perfect competition nor an oligopoly. As the market competition become intense, the distribution of resource becomes rational; therefore, the level of competition in the monopolistic competition is more intense than it is in the oligopoly and perfect competition (Roberts et al, 1977). Another reason caused this is that the products in the monopolistic competition can be easily replaced. Nowadays, smartphones of different brands are similar on their appearance, details and even functions. The conditions for a monopolistic competition to exist are as follows. Initially, the products in the competition have to be differentiated. The differences can be in the quality of the products, the appearance, the label or the sales conditions. ...
