A Wall Of Fire Rising
A Wall of Fire Rising , Slavery vs. Freedom. Being a story from a short story novel title Krik? Krak!
Written by Edwidge Danticat, A Wall of Fire Rising in brief is about Guy, Lili, and their son Little
Guy, a Haitian family living in poverty, with Guy been an unemployed sugar cane worker that escape
the misery of the quotidian life by stealing an air balloon from which he hurt himself, choosing a
scaring death over the misery of life beneath (Abbott 11). In further, the story also drives our intention
on Little Guy, especially about his role in a play as Haitian revolutionary Duty Boukman (who play a
vast role in the abolition of slavery in Haiti that led to their Independence). Thus, to not forget his
lines from the play, we see him reciting them throughout the story. Additionally, Danticat shows the
characters, Lili and Guy have a conflict over their son Little Guy been on a sugar mill permanent hire
list. Edwidge Danticat illustration of these events could be interpreted as a symbol of Slavery and
Freedom, that connects the past historical time, in which Boukman live in, as well of the present one
lived by Guy, Lili, and Little Guy in the story. To begin, it can be confirmed that Duty Boukman was
mentioned in A Wall of Fire Rising , with being a role Little Guy must play in his upcoming school
performance. This is shown when Guy asks Little Guy about his role in the play, and as seen on line
10, Little Guy responds, I m Boukman (Danticat 227). Knowing that, the question now is why does
Danticat introduce someone from Haiti history in a story that supposes to be about a family struggling
with poverty to maintain their daily needs? Foremost, let know who Boukman is. Briefly, he was a
revolutionary, a slave and reputed voodoo priest, who with his powerful spoken words of freedom, in
defiance of the French colonizers, help to spark a revolution that ultimately led to the abolition of
slavery and the founding of the Haitian Republic in 1804 (Chen 4). In addition, before the revolt, most
of the slaves in Haiti were more used to work in the French sugar plantation. Just as mentioned in the
Globe and Mail article titled Krik? Krak! By Elizabeth Abbott, in which she wrote that: When

Alycia Stigall s Research
Biodiversity is a necessity for every ecosystem to thrive in equilibrium. However, the balance between
species, predators, and prey can be disturbed by the most microscopic change. One of these catalysts
are invasive species: living organisms that are non native to an ecosystem. Alycia Stigall s research
(2010) has been fundamental to finding why speciation declined during the late Devonian biodiversity
crisis. Potential causes of speciation include reproductive isolation and geographic isolation, which is
also known as vicariance. Stigall studied three different species of shallow marine invertebrate
organisms and determined their speciation by combining each species geography and phylogenetic
backgrounds. Measurements of the biodiversity ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For instance, the Itaipu Reservoir on the Paraná River in South America is a man made cistern that
utilizes hydropower for the area in the form of dams and reservoirs. When the reservoir inundated the
Guaira Falls which served as an ecological filter separating most species, fish that had lived in the
lower part of the Paraná River gained access to the upper Paraná River (Vitule, 2012). In order to
quantify homogenization, Vitule employed Jaccard s coefficient which measures similarities between
species in the same community. From the data, he concluded that homogenization occurred in the area
not by the elimination of threatened species but by the unidirectional movement of fish. More than
half of the species in the upper Paraná Basin were distributed from the lower Paraná Basin after the
reservoir flooded. Thus, homogenization and consequent loss of biodiversity of the Itaipu area was
directly influenced by anthropogenic

A Research On Organic And Chemical Essay
Organic and chemical are both antagonistic words, and both are rivals to say in the horticulture and
agriculture industries, as one of the words invokes a sense of greenery and meadows while the other
hinders to synthetic mixtures and various concoctions in a sterilized environment. What organic
fertilizers means is that they are minimally processed, in which the nutrients are sourced in their
natural form. Most of these sources are made from plant waste, animal wastes, and powdered
materials such as glacial rock dust and bone meal. On the other hand, chemical fertilizers are refined
nutrients from extracts that are mixed with chemical dressings to create a specific ratio. Chemical
fertilizers are made from petroleum products, certain rocks, and also from organic sources.
100 years ago a lone chemist, Fritz Haber, discovered ammonia synthesis, a process in which Fritz
used a sheet of osmium inside a steel chamber, flowing with nitrogen and hydrogen gas, and packed
with pressure and enormous heat, created ammonia. Fritz was a genius, and he discovered something
many scientists had been frantically researching for years, the idea of turning nitrogen gas, which was
abundant in the atmosphere, into a physical form in which plants can take up as nutrients. The advent
rise of chemical fertilizers has brought humans many great harvests in the turn of the last century. It
has given the ability for agriculture to sustain and feed humanity at an ever more increasing rate, from

Era Of Good Feelings Essay
The Era of Good Feelings was a traditional name given to the years of James Monroe s presidency,
following the end of the War of 1812. Events such as the Louisiana Purchase, which nearly doubled
the size of American land and proved the Federalist party didn t have much as they opposed the
purchase, and fighting against the Barbary Pirates which gained the American navy respect made
people in America proud to be there and led up to the good feelings. The time was mostly
characterized by an increase of nationalistic spirits as the Republican party become the single party in
the United States after Monroe won against Rufus King, his Federalist opponent in the 1816 election.
Nationalism would have a large influence on many features of American culture and economics;
however, there were also many tensions growing during this time as well. There was much discourse
over issues such as the national bank, tariffs, and internal improvements. The Republican party was
the sole party at the time, it was also dividing, with many supporting what was once Federalist
policies. Sectional differences over slavery and states rights would also have a major impact on
politics and economics, with greater importance than the results of nationalistic influences.
Nationalism became a part of society through many different cultural areas. Gilbert Stuart, Charles
Willson Peale, and John Trumball painted revolutionary heroes. Parson Mason Weems wrote a
fictitious biography of George Washington.

The Importance Of Nurses Reading And Critiquing Research...
The purpose of nurses reading and critiquing research about the nursing field is to gain a better
understanding of the research topic and to evaluate if this research will be effective in every day
practice. Nursing is always evolving and changing, so it is important to keep up to date research on
certain methods and practices used in the healthcare field.
Article Summary Infection control and precautions is a major aspect when working in the health care
field. Nurses and all other healthcare professionals should be properly educated regarding infection
control techniques and precautions. This research study conducted by Chia Jung Wu, Glenn E Gardner
and Anne M Chang, measures Taiwanese nursing students capability to handle infection control in
terms of knowledge, application skills and confidence. From the review of literature and previous
studies, data revealed that there is a sufficient lack in knowledge regarding infection control
procedures, however these prior results tend to be unconvincing due to only being relatable to certain
groups and populations. Throughout this study, a cross sectional survey was used for the research of
fourth year nursing students in a five year program in Southern Taiwan. The demographics of the
students were studied along with three different scales measuring knowledge, application and
confidence. The data was collected from a self administered questionnaire given out at the different
campuses. The results from this study were based off

Ronald Reagan s Foreign Policy
Ronald Reagan was an actor and cowboy that must of the world didn t take serious at first! But once
he took the oath of office; he would get the world s attention. He enters into office with the United
States in an economic and military mess. He would fix the economic mess by cutting taxes and jump
starting the economy. The military would be fixed by his Doctrine. The Reagan Doctrine was an
aggressive foreign policy from 1981 87 in his first term as President he designed a plan to roll back
Communism at its weakest points, and weaken the U.S.S.R by targeting the overthrow of its marginal
allies in the non industrialized World. Many pundits argue that it was a smashing success and
dramatically undermined the power of the U.S.S.R, forcing it to retreat, and collapse by 1989. Reagan
s foreign policy could be stated by his view of the U.S.S.R as the Evil Empire that is an illegitimate
state. He rejected the détente policy that Richard Nixon, Gerald Ford and Jimmy Carter had pursued
until 1979, when the U.S.S.R invaded Afghanistan proved its failure. Reagan long had opposed the
containment strategy. Reagan instead proposed Rollback, a strategy to steadily reduce and eventually
eliminate the Communist threat. In 1981 the newly elected Reagan rejected Henry Kissinger and other
advocates of détente and brought in hard liners, many of them previously associated with Democratic
Senator Henry Jackson. The Reagan Doctrine in fact operated as early as 1981, without a name, but

A Penny Saved
A penny saved is a penny earned is one of the most well known sayings in American culture, or,
perhaps, used to be one of the most well known sayings in America. According to Jenny Che, an
associate business editor at The Huffington Post, America has a serious problem when it comes to
financial literacy and the problem starts with the kids in the school system who are not being taught
how to manage money. Che states in her April 2016 blog post titled, America Is Not Teaching Kids
How To Manage Money. And That s A Problem, that the United States was ranked far lower than most
people would expect when it comes to financial literacy, and little is being done to resolve this issue.
Through alarming observations and data, Che successfully makes her point: America is not integrating
financial curriculum into their education system, and this must change. Although Che s post is fewer
than 500 words, she presents an impressive amount of well supported information. A large portion of
her post focuses on recent studies and research to back her argument, building ethos. All of the sources
have been published in very recent years, adding a consistent and current time period to her argument.
She poses statistics such as the amount of debt American students have accumulated, the staggering
number of people who are behind on their loan payments, and the small number of schools who are
actively incorporating financial education curriculum into their system. She references an extensive

Family Development Theory And Family Structure
A traditional family is no longer considered the norm amongst a typical family structure. Many family
structures consist of the nuclear family, single parent household, lesbian/gay family, childless family,
grandparent family, and stepfamily. Each family is made distinctive, develops at different stages, and
deals with family issues. Family development theory is used to help families deal with issues and how
to handle them in different stages of development. Issues within the family can be caused by a
numerous of situations from a child acting out to a parent getting a divorce. In the case of Samantha,
she is suffering from malnourishment, amenorrhea, food obsessions, excessive exercise, depression,
and denial about the severity of her ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The family system theory also focuses on genogram, ecomap, and culturagram to help identify the
family structure and issues in and out the family environment. The family system theory also focuses
on six stages of family development to understand families experiences and crisis. The eight key
concepts Bowen family system theory is used to help understand the social system and provide
effective ways to solving problems in those areas (Kerr, 2000). The triangle concept is explained as a
three person relationship where it is used to understand the action and emotion of others (Kerr, 2000).
Differentiation of self can be explained on how one view themselves in social groups and families
(Kerr, 2000). Depending on how someone handles the interaction in social groups and families can
affect how a client think and feels about oneself. The nuclear family emotional process focuses on
relationship patterns that develop problem in the family. The four basic relationship patters include
marital conflict, dysfunction in one spouse, impairment of one or more children, and emotional
distance. The family projection process focuses on the process of which parents transmit their
emotional problems to their child or children (Kerr). The multigenerational transmission process
describes the level

The Problem Of A Stock Trading System Based On Prediction...
Executive Summary
The dissertation project addresses the problem of trying to build a stock trading system based on
prediction models obtained with daily stock quotes data. We will apply different models to predict the
returns of IBM stocks at the New York Stock Exchange. These predictions will be used together with a
trading rule that will generate buy and sell signals. This chapter addresses several new data mining
issues: (1) how to use R to analyze data stored in a database; (2) how to handle prediction problems
where there is a time ordering among training cases (usually known as a time series); (3) and the
consequences of wanting to translate model predictions into actions.
3.1 Problem description and objectives
Stock market trading is an application domain with a big potential for data mining.
In effect, the existence of an enormous amount of historical data suggests that data mining can provide
a competitive advantage over human inspection of this data. On the other hand there are authors
claiming that the markets adapt so rapidly in terms of price adjustments that there is no space to obtain
profits in a consistent way. This is usually known as the efficient markets hypothesis.
This theory has been successively replaced by more relaxed versions that leave some space for trading
opportunities.
The general goal of stock trading is to maintain a portfolio of stocks based on buy and sell orders. The
long term objective is to achieve as much profit as possible from these

The Importance Of Kinship In Cultural Anthropology
Kingsborough Community College
Importance of Kinship in cultural anthropology
Student: Amulang Mantsynov
Professor: Igor Pashkovskiy
Kinship has traditionally been one of the key topics in social and cultural anthropology. There are two
primary reasons for this. First, although not all communities are constituted on the basis of kinship, all
humans have a kinship as individuals and are related to other individuals through it. Second, for the
sorts of tribal, classless, economically unspecialized societies that anthropologists have mostly though
no longer exclusively studied, kinship has appeared to be the main or even sole form of social
organization. These observations led various theoretical approaches, especially the schools of
functionalism and structuralism within social anthropology, to focusing on how social groups are
formed. They got interested in studying of how individuals are related to one another through kinship,
and what kinds of mutual rights and duties they have as a result. (R. Parkin. Kinship)
Parkin (2012) also points out that unlike the functionalists and structuralists, cultural anthropologists,
elected to focus more greatly on the symbolic rather than socio practical aspects of kinship. They are
interested in the meanings attached to being a particular sort of relative. They also study how symbols
of and perspectives on an individual, the body, and gender tell kinship ideas and practices. In broad
terms, a study of kingship from the symbolic standpoint has prevailed in America since the beginning
of the twentieth century and periodically has been reinvented and by the 1970s become more
influential in world anthropology, especially in its poststructuralist phase. The field of study of a
kinship can be divided into three major categories: descent (that is, relations between generations);
affinity (marriage); and siblingship. However, the siblingship hasn t been studied as widely as the first
two categories. (R. Parkin. Kinship).
By the definition provided in the New Dictionary of Cultural Literacy, kinship is a relation between
two or more persons that is based on common ancestry (descent) or marriage (affinity). In his work

Single Parent Black Families Analysis
This article discusses a common factor that is encountered when counseling single parent Black
families. That is the topic of a mother s unresolved issue with the absent father being projected on the
eldest son. Lowe stated that in single Black families, mothers unresolved feelings about an absent
father are usually placed on the eldest son who is expected to assume the role as a parental child.
Lowe found that negative projections could possibly hide many unresolved emotional issues that the
mother has with the father. Therefore, this causes the relationship between the mother and son to
become impaired. This occurs because the son naturally develops and wants to differentiate himself,
which causes him to trigger unfinished business for

Defender Of The Faith And Good Country People Summary
In Defender of the Faith and Good Country People , the problem of identity is key to the story, for it is
something that can be pondered over or quickly answered. In Defender of the Faith , Marx is seen
struggling to identify himself by his actions, his religion, and his duty. In Good Country People ,
Pointer is quickly identified as a good country person yet this perception isn t accurate. Identity can be
formed through a number of things, like family, friends, school, religion, and etc. This is basic
sociology, yet there is more to this simple list. It is the individual that chooses to be influenced. An
individual chooses who he or she interact with, one may say an individual can t choose his or her
biological parents, however, an individual can choose who to call mom and dad. One can even argue
that an individual can be identified by the choices he or she have turned down. There are many
influences to form an identity, yet it is the individual who ultimately forms his or her identity based on
the influences he or she chose. Marx is seen struggling with his identity in Defender of the Faith , for
he has allowed himself to be identified by his duty, but Grossbart helped Marx rediscover a part of
him that he lost during the war. By no means was Grossbart intending to help Marx, Grossbart was
only interested in his own self gain, but this didn t stop Marx to let his Jewishness out. Grossbart
invited Marx to mass one evening and while Grossbart wasn t paying

Angelman Syndrome and Prader-Willi Syndrome Essay
Angelman Syndrome Prader Willi Syndrome
Introduction
Prader Willi and Angelman Syndrome are two genetic disorders with vastly differing phenotypes
linked by missing genetic imprints on the 15th chromosome s q arm between regions 11 and 13 .
While both orders result in mental deficits, their symptoms are otherwise segregated from the other in
their entirety. The differences in the disorders are the result of differing DNA methylation patterns
present in maternally and paternally inherited DNA. If the deletion occurs in the mother s DNA, then
Prader Willi Syndrome appears. When the deletion occurs in the father s DNA, Angelman Syndrome
is the result.
The phenotypical differences between the two disorders are drastic. Those with ... Show more content

The Nature of the Disease Angelman syndrome is thought to be caused mainly by the deletion of the
maternally inherited copy of UEB3A. A small number of cases are also caused by failures in
imprinting or, very rarely, monosomy 15 in the egg and disomy 15 in the sperm. The profound mental
effects are caused by this gene due to the fact that, while UEB3A s protein is active in various bodily
tissues, only the mother s copy of the gene is active in the brain. The phenotype of Angelman
Syndrome is not overt enough to be detected unless it is being specifically looked for. EEG scans are
capable of detecting the disease at early ages, before it is otherwise possible to detect.
Prader Willi
Prader Willi is caused by either deletions, failure in imprinting, or monosomy/disomy 15 from the
father s side. The genes involved are known to include, but are not known to be limited to SNRPN and
NDN. NDN odes for the protein Necdin, which, in rodents, interacts with neurotrophin receptors in a
way that is not completely understood to promote normal cognitive development. SNRPN codes for
several products, including small nucleolar RNAs, a splicing factor involved in RNA processing, and a
polypeptide known as SNURF. The precise role of this gene is unknown.
Symptoms. Prader Willi syndrome presents symptoms beginning in utero, where the fetus is less

Nationality In Spain
The privileges of some regional communities over others is a structural singularity that is rooted in the
Spanish political system. Different from the French system where there is a run off between the two
most voted candidates, in Spain there is only one single round during the elections. Depending on the
territory or region, some political parties take more representation or possible seats in the national
parliament than others, specifically if those votes are to minor parties in a specific location. In
Catalonia one vote counts more than the same vote in Andalusia, so nationalist parties have more
chances of success. As an example Ciudadanos, a non nationalist party needs close to 100.000 votes to

Conversely, territoriality is an elaborated action and it is rational. A territory is a defined space,
something that can be measured. As a rational action, it does not have to be defined by geographical
features, the human can divide a territory by other means like by satellite coordinates, fences, walls,
etc. In Spain, the different territories that shape the state have not geographical features to define
them. In essence, they are divided based on political principles. The founding fathers of the modern
Spain in 1975 had an intention when divided the nation in seventeen autonomous territories. Whether
they did a good or bad job is a question that is hard to answer and there is always a personal or biased
component when analyzing it. Nevertheless, the fact that they divided the nation in seventeen
autonomous Communities or states is a fact. Consequently, the main objective of this essay is to
discuss the territorial tendencies that enhance the Catalan nationalist project and its imagined
community; and eventually a new nation. To explain the Spanish territoriality division the book of
David Sack human territoriality is key. David Sacks argues that in a territorial model there are ten
tendencies that are nor independent. The interrelationship among the territorial units and the activities
they enclose may be so complex that it is almost impossible to control all of them. Thus, the

Legalization Of Marijuana For Medical Purposes Essay
Legalization of Marijuana for Medical Purposes What is Marijuana?
Marijuana is a kind of drug. Similar to other drugs, it has positive and negative effects which depends
on how much a person intakes. Marijuana refers to the different parts of a plant called Cannabis
Sativa. Marijuana is similar to a cigarette as it is also rolled and smoked. The two main components of
Marijuana are Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and Cannabidiol (CBD). Though both components have
positive effects, THC is actually the bad component of Marijuana that makes it addictive and heavily
stimulates the brain while CBD is the component that mostly provides different good effects.
Along with THC and CBD, Marijuana houses 483 known compounds. These compounds such as
cannabidiol (CBD), cannabinol (CBN), and tetrahydrocannabivarin (THCV) all have specific
distinctions which lead to several effects. The Cannabis plant was originally intended for medical use
but because of the lack of discipline of the people who use it, it then becomes addictive and leads to
several bad effects such as anxiety, loss of balance, and even death.
Historical Background of Marijuana
The earliest recorded use of marijuana is from Central and South Asia in the 3rd millennium BCE,
wherein there is evidence of inhalation of smoke at an ancient ritual brazier at an ancient burial site in
present day Romania. There is also evidence of cannabis consumption found in Egyptian mummies
dated about 950 BC.

Rhetorical Analysis Essay On Notre Dame
Author s note: Shortly after submitting this piece, it was learned that starting nose tackle Jarron Jones

defense in point #4. However, Notre Dame has experience behind him and a freshman in Jerry Tillery
who enrolled in the spring and participated in spring practices for Notre Dame. Coach Brian Kelly had
this to say about him during those early practices. As I noted in the defensive section, because Jones
was hurt last year, players were forced into action and gained a ton of quality experience. Add a blue
chip talent like Tillery to that group and Notre Dame should recover from this very effectively. Yes, it

Testing Safety For A Laboratory Environment
Introduction
Working in a laboratory can be one of the most dangerous jobs to perform if you are not aware of the
necessary precautions that need to be taken. Two of the main issues that can arise in the laboratory are
improper use of sharp object and use of chemical. It is very important that proper lab safety skills are
conducted to prevent potential incidents from occurring. Lab safety is not only to protect you from
incidents but it is also to protect the people around you. Safety should always be first priority. There
are three main topics that should always be practiced when working in a lab setting, Proper
handwashing, safety techniques for yourself and others, and how to properly clean/dispose of
hazardous material. After this lab, the expected result is a better understanding on how to properly
conduct yourself in a laboratory environment.
Methods and Materials
The first topic addressed is how to properly wash your hands. The first unit of the lab consists of
proper handwashing etiquettes. Proper handwashing in the laboratory requires running water, soap,
and paper towels. Before washing one s hands, one should make sure all hand jewelry is taken off.
Once the faucet is turned on, one should wet his/her hands before adding soap. After the hands have
been wet and soap has been applied, one should thoroughly scrub his/her hands together for at least 20
seconds. A nail brush may also be used to clean up under the nails. After rubbing the hands

A Career In Speech-Language Pathology
As a child, I was faced with a lot of adversity. My grandmother raised my brothers and me. We lived
on government assistance with little money and no car for transportation for extracurricular activities.
The hardships we faced compelled me at a young age to stay in school, go to college, and make
something of myself because I did not want to live a life limiting my dreams and opportunities.
Throughout my academic career, there was not a specific moment that solidified my desire to pursue a
profession in Speech Language Pathology (SLP); instead, there were numerous. I initially became
interested in this profession after learning how a child s dysfluency was able to significantly improve.

Visual And Design, An Art Of Thought And Communication
The understanding of all objects that are made for human use are influenced with the themes of
communication. Designs treat form not only as value itself but also in the means of pleasing and
shaping the appearance of objects for an effect that s intended for whatever. Design can be viewed as a
rhetoric, which is an art of reshaping society, changing the course of individuals and setting patterns
for new action. Technologists argue that technology is part of broader art and design, an art of thought
and communication that can move in other s wide range of beliefs by persuasion, about practice life
for the individual and groups. Rhetoricians are expert in form of intended to persuade communication.
Design is an art of thought directed to action that s practiced through persuasiveness of objects and
therefore design invades the lively expression of ideas that are competing about social life.

Ecosystem Services Management Report
While environmentalists and scientists have discussed the idea of ecosystem services for several
decades, it only gained attention after an official announcement of its concept, by the Millennium
Ecosystem Assessment (MA) in 2005. As a new field in ecology, I realized that there is much more
research needed to be done in terms of management and sustainable development of ecosystem
services. Many environmentalists have brought up new ideas and methods to improve ecosystem
services and have created programs to promote their sustainability. Despite these efforts, however, the
resulting outcomes have not been so successful than expected and ecosystem services still remain
under threat. This leads us to question the effectiveness the validity and reliability of these programs
and how they are managed. My goal in this paper is to analyze the efficiency of current ecosystem
service management systems and present my thoughts and ideas on how we can improve them from
an environmental, social, and economic perspective.
Ecosystem services are goods and services provided by ecosystems that benefit, sustain and support
the well being of people. They can be grouped into four main categories: regulating , provisioning ,
supporting , and cultural services. These services, which are key to well being, including security,
sufficient nutritious food, health, and good social relations, can only be maintained if ecosystems
which provide these services are maintained. Ecosystems are currently

The Core Beliefs Of The Abrahamic And Messianic Faith Of...
Core beliefs are the key foundations to all dynamic religious traditions of the world. In particular, core
beliefs underpin the Abrahamic and Messianic faith of Judaism, as they offer Jewish adherents a
unique interpretation of reality. Thus, these core beliefs must be viewed through a sympathetic cultural
and historical lens. Leunig once said: Does G d exist? More to the point: what does it matter if G d
exists or not? After all everything else seems to exist, so what s the problem? raising issues concerning
G d s existence and its importance to humankind. A Jewish adherent would respond to this stimulus in
light of the particular culture lens of their variant. This is established through the varying aspects of
Jewish beliefs: the nature of G d, how one gains meaning and the view of human condition, how one
ought to live through Jewish morality, along with beliefs concerning suffering, death and the after life.
Firstly and fore mostly, Jewish adherents hold certain beliefs that address the nature of G d and this
would have an influence on how one might respond to the stimulus. In the twelfth century, Jewish
scholar Moses Maimonides summarised all 613 mitzvot, the positive and negative commandments
outlined in the Torah (Morrissey, 2010, p.125). Referred to as the Thirteen Articles of Faith, this
written composition highlights the basics of the Jewish belief system. This is demonstrated as articles

Walmart s Supply Chain And Their Supplier Quality
Introduction Walmart is well known all over the over the United States. Almost every town traveled
through will have a Walmart. This store is known for their low prices and their ability have the
essential items that are needed on a daily basis. According to their website, Walmart employs 2.2
million people around the world, with 1.4 million coming from the U.S. alone. These employees are
operating in over 11,500 store in 28 different countries. In these stores more than 260 million people
will visit a store in their area in a week (walmart.com, n.d.). With this many customers coming into the
store customer service is essential. With customer service, feedback and response is a huge part to
help associates understand what they are doing right and what they are doing wrong. Then along those
lines we will discuss how Walmart manages their supply chain and their supplier quality. Finally we
will talk about Walmart s employee empowerment, training and teamwork.
Customer Service When a retail company as big a Walmart, those retailers are going to have some
flaws. The thing that sets companies apart is the fact of willing to try and fix those flaws. Walmart had
the case of customers complaining about customer service. Customers were unable to find products
that they wanted and that can lead to serious consequences (Lutz, 2013). Empty shelves was a
problem with a cut back in the workforce and without enough employees to keep up and keep the

Managed Health Care Issues Essay
When one examines managed health care and the hospitals that provide the care, a degree of variation
is found in the treatment and care of their patients. This variation can be between hospitals or even
between physicians within a health care network. For managed care companies the variation may be
beneficial. This may provide them with opportunities to save money when it comes to paying for their
policy holder s care, however this large variation may also be detrimental to the insurance company.
This would fall into the category of management of utilization, if hospitals and managed care
organizations can control treatment utilization, they can control premium costs for both themselves
and their customers (Rodwin 1996). If health ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The second category is preference (Kongstvedt, 2007). When the term preference is used, what it
means in this sense is that there is more than one way to cure the patient. This means that the patient
has a choice to make between the specific treatments. The patient s preference to certain treatments
defines how utilization management works. Patients in the same region may prefer a single treatment
to another or patients of a specific age demographic may opt out of surgery when a younger crowd
may see it as the only option (Kongstvedt, 2007). The third and final category of unwarranted care is
supply. The term does not refer to supplies as in the usage of equipment or tools needed to perform a
job. The word supply is referring to the treatment that is most available is the most often used in
regards to a patient s care. For instance, in a state that the majority of the population is elderly
patients, who use Medicare, will have higher per capita spending for Medicare patient s than the states
that do not have a high population of elderly residence using Medicare services (Rodwin 1996). With
these categories in place, managed health care organizations can group health care into these
categories and establish parameters for reducing cost and create cost effective utilization of health care
resource to all of their customers. Utilization management was set in place to contain costs, but one
might also assume that by

Thousand Splendid Suns
A Thousand Splendid Suns is a fifty one chapter fictional writing by Khaled Hosseini. It tells the story
of two women who live in Afghanistan, and their lives with an abusive husband. The author uses a
diversity of techniques such as foreshadowing and multiple plots. A great example of the use of such
techniques is when, in chapter 5, Nana says to Mariam Don t leave me, Mariam jo. Please stay. I ll die
if you go. , foreshadowing her own suicide. The novel starts with the story of two completely
unrelated women, Mariam and Laila, whose connection to each other will only come up later in the
book. This is means the book has multiple plots. The author wrote the novel in the third person
omniscient point of view. In part three, the narrator shifts ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example when Jalil, in his letter to Mariam in chapter 50 says, Now all I can do is ask for your
forgiveness. So forgive me, Mariam jo, it becomes visible he regrets the way he treated Mariam. Also,
when the narrator says, Mariam is never very far [...] Mariam is in Laila s own heart, where she shines
with the bursting radiance of a thousand splendid suns, in chapter 51, we can see how much Mariam
affected Laila s life. In chapter 47, moments before the execution, the reader can see how close the
women have become, when the narrator says, ...she was leaving the world as a woman who had loved
and been loved back. She was leaving it as a friend, a companion, a guardian. Sometimes, quotes can
foreshadow future events in the story. When Nana tells Mariam, Like a compass needle that always
points north, a man s accusing finger always finds a woman. Always. You, a hint is given as to what
awaits for Mariam in her future. The title of the novel is a fragment of a poem which, in chapter 26,
Mullah Faizullah recites to Mariam: One could not count the moons that shimmer on her roofs, and
the thousand splendid suns that hide behind her

The Global Health Care System
There are many nonprofit, government groups that assist with or focus on international issues and
raise awareness for international countries that may need assistance, the most common assistance
today is health issues. Services that nonprofit, government groups assist with can range from
supplying water, food, vaccines, clothing, etc. All of this would include the undertaking of their health
and assisting with health issues that may arise from not having enough of these items or supplements
to live or lead a healthy lifestyle. Many of these organizations are non profit organizations and only
can survive to provide aide and services to the poverty level through charitable contributions. The
issue today with the global health care system is that the poverty level is so high in many
underdeveloped countries that only so much aide can be provided or depending on where aide does
need to be provided the resources are simply not available and resources are very limited in order to
make any improvement, water contamination is a major issue for many underdeveloped countries and
the spread of diseases at times can be very rapid. So speaking of organizations that provide health care
aide within the global health system can range from various types and what their mission, vision and
ultimate goal is in the end. The following are nonprofit organizational groups that focus on

Classroom Behavior Management For African American Students
The number of students being diagnosed with or suspected of having an Emotional/Behavioral
disability is rapidly increasing, especially for African American students and in students at younger
ages. The U.S. Department of Education reports that an African American child is one and a half times
more likely to be placed in a classroom for children with emotional disturbances than a White child
(Children s Defense Fund, 2011). I have observed that many of these students are often disengaged
during literacy instruction. As a result, these students present literacy inadequacies in addition to
behavioral challenges. Incorporating culturally responsive pedagogy and interventions across all
content areas increases a student s ability to comprehend texts. In addition to implementing research
based academic instruction, cultural instructional modifications, adequate teacher preparation for
teaching EBD students, engaging classroom behavior management for teachers of students with
Emotional/Behavioral disability, contribute to the literacy growth of EBD students.
An Emotional/Behavioral Disability is defined by:
(1) the student exhibits social, emotional or behavioral functioning that so departs from generally
accepted, age appropriate ethnic or cultural norms that it adversely affects a child s academic progress,
social relationships, personal adjustment, classroom adjustment, self care or vocational skills; (2) the
behaviors are severe, chronic, and frequent, occur at school and at

Consumer Behavior Is Important For Business Firm Development
Consumer behaviour is always a crucial part for business firm development. International firms invest
myriad of money to understand their customers, in order to satisfy the need and wants of customers.
For example, IKEA, the world s leading home furnishing company, spent a total of £30 million in
2012. It aims to improve the shopping experience for customers, including the bedroom showroom
redesign. It is crystal clear that consumer behaviour plays a vital part in the success or failure of a
product. Meanwhile, consumer behaviour is a process which consumers go through when they make
purchases and it involves numerous factors that influence their decisions. As a consumer, we make
decisions every day. Some are far reaching while others may be trivial and inconsequential. However,
we all know that human beings are irrational, our preferences often deviate from rationality in the
standard economics. We often make the wrong decision and it may bring unfavourable consequences
along with negative side effects. There are countless reasons for making irrational decisions. One of
the most astonishing arguments I recently discovered is that people feel the pain of loss more acutely
than they feel the pleasure of gain. Why this happened ? For instance, when we buy a sofa from IKEA,
they often provide a 30 days money back guarantee. However, even if we noticed that the sofa has
imperfections, we seldom go back and return. Why ? It is because we consider returning the sofa as a
loss. A

The Buddha From Gandhara And Theotokos Of Vladimir
After looking at all the themes listed, the theme of Picturing the Divine: Gods, Goddesses, Prophets,
Buddhas, and Saints caught my eyes. Out of this theme, I picked two incredible works of art,
Meditating Buddha and Vladimir Virgin. When you first look and read the title of the theme I choose,
it may cross your mind that my theme has something to do with religion. Meditating Buddha from
Gandhara and Theotokos of Vladimir may come from different cultural traditions; however they both
share the same general theme of picturing the divines.
The Meditating Buddha or Seated Buddha from Gandhara is an early statue of Buddha from
Gandhara, Pakistan. This work of art is from the Culture of Buddhism and was made around the 2nd
or 3rd century. Buddhism still exists today and is one of the leading religions in the world, which
explains why the statue is still well known to this day and why it is still represented over and over
again throughout history. The statue is now located in Room 33, British Museum in London.
On the other hand, Vladimir Virgin is a medieval Byzantine icon of the Virgin and Child. Virgin Mary
is seen as the holy protector of Russia. Like I said earlier, it is one of the most respected Orthodox
icons and an early example of iconography of the Eleusa type. The icon is displayed in a gallery called
Tretyakov Gallery in Moscow. The icon was believed to be painted in Constantinople sometime
around the 11th and 12th century. The theme I picked is associated with

2. It has respect for the issues of client in context
The emotional and psycho social issues of client are addressed in a way suited to context of the
problem. As this approach believes in problem in relation to context.
3. It helps the client to find own ways to solve a problem by linking the emotional barriers and issues
The client is able to track the trajectory from past to present and how various down links are
connected and where are the actual issues.
4. It is more caring and supportive
This approach is social in nature and cares for the client in a comprehensive and thorough manner
instead of tracking spots and blaming singular behaviors.
5. It has more social responsibility
Gestalt also is a more socially responsible approach as it helps the therapist to aid the treatment of

Freyr Research Paper
The sun has been depicted as a god or an object pulled by a god throughout many mythologies. Most
people may think of Helios, Apollo, or Ra when the term sun god comes up, but in Norse mythology,
there is yet another god of the sun. Frey, who is also known as Freyr, is a god who is considered to be
a god of the sun, among many other things. It can be said that Frey is to the Norsemen what Apollo
was to the Greeks. He was one of the many deities that made up Norse mythology, and also one of the
most interesting.
Frey was the Norse god of the sun, rain, agriculture, fertility, and health, and an important god in the
Norse culture. He was part of the group of gods called the Vanir, a peace loving tribe, and he s also an
honorary member of the other tribe of Norse gods, the Aesir (McCoy). ... Show more content on

He also owned a magical ship, Skidbladnir, which can be folded up and carried in a small bag

Being the god of fertility, he is depicted, logically, with a gigantic phallus (Leeming). As the god of
fertility and agriculture, farmers worshipped him and traveled with an image of Frey in their wagons.
They believed this practice made their crops thrive. Many ancient Scandinavian families claimed to be
descended from Frey because they thought his presence guaranteed a plentiful harvest and peace
(Lindahl). As with most gods in other mythologies, there was a complex family system. Frey had a
twin sister, Freya, with whom he also had a child with. His father was Njord, a sea god, and while it is

An Analysis Of George Ritzer s Five Components Of...
McDonaldization McDonaldization is a term used by sociologist George Ritzer in his book The
McDonaldization of Society (1993). Ritzer uses McDonaldization to describe a sociological
phenomenon that is happening in our society. He explains that it becomes demonstrated when a
culture adopts the principles of a fast food restaurant. Essentially, the term McDonaldization is the
process of rationalization. When Ritzer titled his book The McDonaldization of Society he is actually
referring to the rationalization of society. Thus, the use of the word McDonaldization simply indicates
that the fast food restaurant is one of many great examples of rationality. Ritzer discusses five
components of McDonaldization: efficiency, predictability, control, ... Show more content on

For example, Safeway supermarket employees use non human technology to scan food in barcodes.
Non human technology does not only controls the workers but customers as well. For instance,
customers face a variety of structural barriers and they follow the norms when they enter a Safeway
supermarket for they have to walk down aisles to obtain their desired goods. All of these are ways to
control customers at the Safeway supermarkets to act in a manner in which the business wants them to
act. The effects of non human technology in supermarkets illustrate how they are controlling
customers wants and needs. The idea of a rationalized system can also become inefficient when there
are too many regulations, which leads to irrationality. Although Safeway supermarkets find it efficient
to stock up on all products, it is not efficient when you have to wade through the mini departments of
the deli, the bakery, the fresh produce section, and aisle after aisle just to find what you are looking
for. Another example of irrationality is that people know fast food is not good for their health but yet
they still eat it, because it is efficient, cheap, and fast. People have taken McDonaldization to the next
level where if they cannot have their dinner made within fifteen minutes they find something else that
is quick and easy such as going to Safeway and purchasing frozen microwavable

Analysis Of The Poem Porphyria s Lover
Love can purely take an over a man, and drive him crazy. Robert Browning, demonstrates Porphyria s
Lover as a terrifying love story given from a lunatic s point of view. It is the story of a man who is so
obsessed with Porphyria that he decides to keep her for himself. In this poem however, we find that
this poem is more than just about a lunatic, and his obsession, but rather find ourselves in the midst of
a poem more depth. First, we can see how the role of nature can express the mood of the poem. We
find that Browning uses many poetic devices such as imagery, meter and rhyme to give the poem that
horrifying, spine chilling feeling. Also how Porphyria s Lover is interesting because of the importance
of class and society during the Victorian era. Browning is known for his dramatic monologues, but in
this poem, it s the reader s takes ability to make inferences as well as to analyze the speaker s attitude
towards Porphyria since he does not give any background information of himself or the women she is
obsessed with, Porphyria. The Poem begins with a description of the weather, telling us that it is night,
and the rain has just settled in. We know things are soon to change when the poem tells us that the
sullen wind was soon awake (Browning 2), then tells us it tore the elm tops down for Spite (3). the

  • 2. A Wall Of Fire Rising A Wall of Fire Rising , Slavery vs. Freedom. Being a story from a short story novel title Krik? Krak! Written by Edwidge Danticat, A Wall of Fire Rising in brief is about Guy, Lili, and their son Little Guy, a Haitian family living in poverty, with Guy been an unemployed sugar cane worker that escape the misery of the quotidian life by stealing an air balloon from which he hurt himself, choosing a scaring death over the misery of life beneath (Abbott 11). In further, the story also drives our intention on Little Guy, especially about his role in a play as Haitian revolutionary Duty Boukman (who play a vast role in the abolition of slavery in Haiti that led to their Independence). Thus, to not forget his lines from the play, we see him reciting them throughout the story. Additionally, Danticat shows the characters, Lili and Guy have a conflict over their son Little Guy been on a sugar mill permanent hire list. Edwidge Danticat illustration of these events could be interpreted as a symbol of Slavery and Freedom, that connects the past historical time, in which Boukman live in, as well of the present one lived by Guy, Lili, and Little Guy in the story. To begin, it can be confirmed that Duty Boukman was mentioned in A Wall of Fire Rising , with being a role Little Guy must play in his upcoming school performance. This is shown when Guy asks Little Guy about his role in the play, and as seen on line 10, Little Guy responds, I m Boukman (Danticat 227). Knowing that, the question now is why does Danticat introduce someone from Haiti history in a story that supposes to be about a family struggling with poverty to maintain their daily needs? Foremost, let know who Boukman is. Briefly, he was a revolutionary, a slave and reputed voodoo priest, who with his powerful spoken words of freedom, in defiance of the French colonizers, help to spark a revolution that ultimately led to the abolition of slavery and the founding of the Haitian Republic in 1804 (Chen 4). In addition, before the revolt, most of the slaves in Haiti were more used to work in the French sugar plantation. Just as mentioned in the Globe and Mail article titled Krik? Krak! By Elizabeth Abbott, in which she wrote that: When ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Alycia Stigall s Research Biodiversity is a necessity for every ecosystem to thrive in equilibrium. However, the balance between species, predators, and prey can be disturbed by the most microscopic change. One of these catalysts are invasive species: living organisms that are non native to an ecosystem. Alycia Stigall s research (2010) has been fundamental to finding why speciation declined during the late Devonian biodiversity crisis. Potential causes of speciation include reproductive isolation and geographic isolation, which is also known as vicariance. Stigall studied three different species of shallow marine invertebrate organisms and determined their speciation by combining each species geography and phylogenetic backgrounds. Measurements of the biodiversity ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For instance, the Itaipu Reservoir on the Paraná River in South America is a man made cistern that utilizes hydropower for the area in the form of dams and reservoirs. When the reservoir inundated the Guaira Falls which served as an ecological filter separating most species, fish that had lived in the lower part of the Paraná River gained access to the upper Paraná River (Vitule, 2012). In order to quantify homogenization, Vitule employed Jaccard s coefficient which measures similarities between species in the same community. From the data, he concluded that homogenization occurred in the area not by the elimination of threatened species but by the unidirectional movement of fish. More than half of the species in the upper Paraná Basin were distributed from the lower Paraná Basin after the reservoir flooded. Thus, homogenization and consequent loss of biodiversity of the Itaipu area was directly influenced by anthropogenic ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. A Research On Organic And Chemical Essay Organic and chemical are both antagonistic words, and both are rivals to say in the horticulture and agriculture industries, as one of the words invokes a sense of greenery and meadows while the other hinders to synthetic mixtures and various concoctions in a sterilized environment. What organic fertilizers means is that they are minimally processed, in which the nutrients are sourced in their natural form. Most of these sources are made from plant waste, animal wastes, and powdered materials such as glacial rock dust and bone meal. On the other hand, chemical fertilizers are refined nutrients from extracts that are mixed with chemical dressings to create a specific ratio. Chemical fertilizers are made from petroleum products, certain rocks, and also from organic sources. 100 years ago a lone chemist, Fritz Haber, discovered ammonia synthesis, a process in which Fritz used a sheet of osmium inside a steel chamber, flowing with nitrogen and hydrogen gas, and packed with pressure and enormous heat, created ammonia. Fritz was a genius, and he discovered something many scientists had been frantically researching for years, the idea of turning nitrogen gas, which was abundant in the atmosphere, into a physical form in which plants can take up as nutrients. The advent rise of chemical fertilizers has brought humans many great harvests in the turn of the last century. It has given the ability for agriculture to sustain and feed humanity at an ever more increasing rate, from 1.6 ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. Era Of Good Feelings Essay The Era of Good Feelings was a traditional name given to the years of James Monroe s presidency, following the end of the War of 1812. Events such as the Louisiana Purchase, which nearly doubled the size of American land and proved the Federalist party didn t have much as they opposed the purchase, and fighting against the Barbary Pirates which gained the American navy respect made people in America proud to be there and led up to the good feelings. The time was mostly characterized by an increase of nationalistic spirits as the Republican party become the single party in the United States after Monroe won against Rufus King, his Federalist opponent in the 1816 election. Nationalism would have a large influence on many features of American culture and economics; however, there were also many tensions growing during this time as well. There was much discourse over issues such as the national bank, tariffs, and internal improvements. The Republican party was the sole party at the time, it was also dividing, with many supporting what was once Federalist policies. Sectional differences over slavery and states rights would also have a major impact on politics and economics, with greater importance than the results of nationalistic influences. Nationalism became a part of society through many different cultural areas. Gilbert Stuart, Charles Willson Peale, and John Trumball painted revolutionary heroes. Parson Mason Weems wrote a fictitious biography of George Washington. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The purpose of nurses reading and critiquing research about the nursing field is to gain a better understanding of the research topic and to evaluate if this research will be effective in every day practice. Nursing is always evolving and changing, so it is important to keep up to date research on certain methods and practices used in the healthcare field. Article Summary Infection control and precautions is a major aspect when working in the health care field. Nurses and all other healthcare professionals should be properly educated regarding infection control techniques and precautions. This research study conducted by Chia Jung Wu, Glenn E Gardner and Anne M Chang, measures Taiwanese nursing students capability to handle infection control in terms of knowledge, application skills and confidence. • 10. Ronald Reagan s Foreign Policy Ronald Reagan was an actor and cowboy that must of the world didn t take serious at first! But once he took the oath of office; he would get the world s attention. He enters into office with the United States in an economic and military mess. He would fix the economic mess by cutting taxes and jump starting the economy. The military would be fixed by his Doctrine. The Reagan Doctrine was an aggressive foreign policy from 1981 87 in his first term as President he designed a plan to roll back Communism at its weakest points, and weaken the U.S.S.R by targeting the overthrow of its marginal allies in the non industrialized World. Many pundits argue that it was a smashing success and dramatically undermined the power of the U.S.S.R, forcing it to retreat, and collapse by 1989. Reagan s foreign policy could be stated by his view of the U.S.S.R as the Evil Empire that is an illegitimate state. He rejected the détente policy that Richard Nixon, Gerald Ford and Jimmy Carter had pursued until 1979, when the U.S.S.R invaded Afghanistan proved its failure. Reagan long had opposed the containment strategy. Reagan instead proposed Rollback, a strategy to steadily reduce and eventually eliminate the Communist threat. In 1981 the newly elected Reagan rejected Henry Kissinger and other advocates of détente and brought in hard liners, many of them previously associated with Democratic Senator Henry Jackson. • 11. A Penny Saved A penny saved is a penny earned is one of the most well known sayings in American culture, or, perhaps, used to be one of the most well known sayings in America. According to Jenny Che, an associate business editor at The Huffington Post, America has a serious problem when it comes to financial literacy and the problem starts with the kids in the school system who are not being taught how to manage money. Che states in her April 2016 blog post titled, America Is Not Teaching Kids How To Manage Money. And That s A Problem, that the United States was ranked far lower than most people would expect when it comes to financial literacy, and little is being done to resolve this issue. Through alarming observations and data, Che successfully makes her point: America is not integrating financial curriculum into their education system, and this must change. Although Che s post is fewer than 500 words, she presents an impressive amount of well supported information. A large portion of her post focuses on recent studies and research to back her argument, building ethos. All of the sources have been published in very recent years, adding a consistent and current time period to her argument. She poses statistics such as the amount of debt American students have accumulated, the staggering number of people who are behind on their loan payments, and the small number of schools who are actively incorporating financial education curriculum into their system. • 13. The Problem Of A Stock Trading System Based On Prediction... Executive Summary The dissertation project addresses the problem of trying to build a stock trading system based on prediction models obtained with daily stock quotes data. We will apply different models to predict the returns of IBM stocks at the New York Stock Exchange. These predictions will be used together with a trading rule that will generate buy and sell signals. This chapter addresses several new data mining issues: (1) how to use R to analyze data stored in a database; (2) how to handle prediction problems where there is a time ordering among training cases (usually known as a time series); (3) and the consequences of wanting to translate model predictions into actions. 3.1 Problem description and objectives Stock market trading is an application domain with a big potential for data mining. In effect, the existence of an enormous amount of historical data suggests that data mining can provide a competitive advantage over human inspection of this data. On the other hand there are authors claiming that the markets adapt so rapidly in terms of price adjustments that there is no space to obtain profits in a consistent way. This is usually known as the efficient markets hypothesis. This theory has been successively replaced by more relaxed versions that leave some space for trading opportunities. The general goal of stock trading is to maintain a portfolio of stocks based on buy and sell orders. The long term objective is to achieve as much profit as possible from these ... • 15. The Importance Of Kinship In Cultural Anthropology Kingsborough Community College Importance of Kinship in cultural anthropology Student: Amulang Mantsynov Professor: Igor Pashkovskiy Kinship has traditionally been one of the key topics in social and cultural anthropology. There are two primary reasons for this. First, although not all communities are constituted on the basis of kinship, all humans have a kinship as individuals and are related to other individuals through it. Second, for the sorts of tribal, classless, economically unspecialized societies that anthropologists have mostly though no longer exclusively studied, kinship has appeared to be the main or even sole form of social organization. These observations led various theoretical approaches, especially the schools of functionalism and structuralism within social anthropology, to focusing on how social groups are formed. They got interested in studying of how individuals are related to one another through kinship, and what kinds of mutual rights and duties they have as a result. (R. Parkin. Kinship) Parkin (2012) also points out that unlike the functionalists and structuralists, cultural anthropologists, elected to focus more greatly on the symbolic rather than socio practical aspects of kinship. They are interested in the meanings attached to being a particular sort of relative. They also study how symbols of and perspectives on an individual, the body, and gender tell kinship ideas and practices. In broad terms, a study of kingship from the symbolic standpoint has prevailed in America since the beginning of the twentieth century and periodically has been reinvented and by the 1970s become more influential in world anthropology, especially in its poststructuralist phase. The field of study of a kinship can be divided into three major categories: descent (that is, relations between generations); affinity (marriage); and siblingship. However, the siblingship hasn t been studied as widely as the first two categories. (R. Parkin. Kinship). By the definition provided in the New Dictionary of Cultural Literacy, kinship is a relation between two or more persons that is based on common ancestry (descent) or marriage (affinity). Defender Of The Faith And Good Country People Summary In Defender of the Faith and Good Country People , the problem of identity is key to the story, for it is something that can be pondered over or quickly answered. In Defender of the Faith , Marx is seen struggling to identify himself by his actions, his religion, and his duty. In Good Country People , Pointer is quickly identified as a good country person yet this perception isn t accurate. Identity can be formed through a number of things, like family, friends, school, religion, and etc. This is basic sociology, yet there is more to this simple list. It is the individual that chooses to be influenced. An individual chooses who he or she interact with, one may say an individual can t choose his or her biological parents, however, an individual can choose who to call mom and dad. One can even argue that an individual can be identified by the choices he or she have turned down. There are many influences to form an identity, yet it is the individual who ultimately forms his or her identity based on the influences he or she chose. Marx is seen struggling with his identity in Defender of the Faith , for he has allowed himself to be identified by his duty, but Grossbart helped Marx rediscover a part of him that he lost during the war. While both orders result in mental deficits, their symptoms are otherwise segregated from the other in their entirety. The differences in the disorders are the result of differing DNA methylation patterns present in maternally and paternally inherited DNA. The Nature of the Disease Angelman syndrome is thought to be caused mainly by the deletion of the maternally inherited copy of UEB3A. A small number of cases are also caused by failures in imprinting or, very rarely, monosomy 15 in the egg and disomy 15 in the sperm. The profound mental effects are caused by this gene due to the fact that, while UEB3A s protein is active in various bodily tissues, only the mother s copy of the gene is active in the brain. The phenotype of Angelman Syndrome is not overt enough to be detected unless it is being specifically looked for. EEG scans are capable of detecting the disease at early ages, before it is otherwise possible to detect. Prader Willi Prader Willi is caused by either deletions, failure in imprinting, or monosomy/disomy 15 from the father s side. The genes involved are known to include, but are not known to be limited to SNRPN and NDN. NDN odes for the protein Necdin, which, in rodents, interacts with neurotrophin receptors in a way that is not completely understood to promote normal cognitive development. After all everything else seems to exist, so what s the problem? raising issues concerning G d s existence and its importance to humankind. This is established through the varying aspects of Jewish beliefs: the nature of G d, how one gains meaning and the view of human condition, how one ought to live through Jewish morality, along with beliefs concerning suffering, death and the after life. Firstly and fore mostly, Jewish adherents hold certain beliefs that address the nature of G d and this would have an influence on how one might respond to the stimulus. • 31. Managed Health Care Issues Essay When one examines managed health care and the hospitals that provide the care, a degree of variation is found in the treatment and care of their patients. This variation can be between hospitals or even between physicians within a health care network. For managed care companies the variation may be beneficial. This may provide them with opportunities to save money when it comes to paying for their policy holder s care, however this large variation may also be detrimental to the insurance company. This would fall into the category of management of utilization, if hospitals and managed care organizations can control treatment utilization, they can control premium costs for both themselves and their customers (Rodwin 1996). If health ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The second category is preference (Kongstvedt, 2007). When the term preference is used, what it means in this sense is that there is more than one way to cure the patient. This means that the patient has a choice to make between the specific treatments. The patient s preference to certain treatments defines how utilization management works. Patients in the same region may prefer a single treatment to another or patients of a specific age demographic may opt out of surgery when a younger crowd may see it as the only option (Kongstvedt, 2007). The third and final category of unwarranted care is supply. The term does not refer to supplies as in the usage of equipment or tools needed to perform a job. The word supply is referring to the treatment that is most available is the most often used in regards to a patient s care. For instance, in a state that the majority of the population is elderly patients, who use Medicare, will have higher per capita spending for Medicare patient s than the states that do not have a high population of elderly residence using Medicare services (Rodwin 1996). With these categories in place, managed health care organizations can group health care into these categories and establish parameters for reducing cost and create cost effective utilization of health care resource to all of their customers. Utilization management was set in place to contain costs, but one might also assume that by ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 32. Thousand Splendid Suns A Thousand Splendid Suns is a fifty one chapter fictional writing by Khaled Hosseini. It tells the story of two women who live in Afghanistan, and their lives with an abusive husband. The author uses a diversity of techniques such as foreshadowing and multiple plots. A great example of the use of such techniques is when, in chapter 5, Nana says to Mariam Don t leave me, Mariam jo. Please stay. I ll die if you go. , foreshadowing her own suicide. The novel starts with the story of two completely unrelated women, Mariam and Laila, whose connection to each other will only come up later in the book. This is means the book has multiple plots. • 33. The Global Health Care System There are many nonprofit, government groups that assist with or focus on international issues and raise awareness for international countries that may need assistance, the most common assistance today is health issues. Services that nonprofit, government groups assist with can range from supplying water, food, vaccines, clothing, etc. All of this would include the undertaking of their health and assisting with health issues that may arise from not having enough of these items or supplements to live or lead a healthy lifestyle. Many of these organizations are non profit organizations and only can survive to provide aide and services to the poverty level through charitable contributions. The issue today with the global health care system is that the poverty level is so high in many underdeveloped countries that only so much aide can be provided or depending on where aide does need to be provided the resources are simply not available and resources are very limited in order to make any improvement, water contamination is a major issue for many underdeveloped countries and the spread of diseases at times can be very rapid. • 34. Classroom Behavior Management For African American Students The number of students being diagnosed with or suspected of having an Emotional/Behavioral disability is rapidly increasing, especially for African American students and in students at younger ages. The U.S. Department of Education reports that an African American child is one and a half times more likely to be placed in a classroom for children with emotional disturbances than a White child (Children s Defense Fund, 2011). I have observed that many of these students are often disengaged during literacy instruction. As a result, these students present literacy inadequacies in addition to behavioral challenges. Incorporating culturally responsive pedagogy and interventions across all content areas increases a student s ability to comprehend texts. In addition to implementing research based academic instruction, cultural instructional modifications, adequate teacher preparation for teaching EBD students, engaging classroom behavior management for teachers of students with Emotional/Behavioral disability, contribute to the literacy growth of EBD students. An Emotional/Behavioral Disability is defined by: (1) the student exhibits social, emotional or behavioral functioning that so departs from generally accepted, age appropriate ethnic or cultural norms that it adversely affects a child s academic progress, social relationships, personal adjustment, classroom adjustment, self care or vocational skills; (2) the behaviors are severe, chronic, and frequent, occur at school and at ... • 35. Consumer Behavior Is Important For Business Firm Development Consumer behaviour is always a crucial part for business firm development. International firms invest myriad of money to understand their customers, in order to satisfy the need and wants of customers. For example, IKEA, the world s leading home furnishing company, spent a total of £30 million in 2012. It aims to improve the shopping experience for customers, including the bedroom showroom redesign. It is crystal clear that consumer behaviour plays a vital part in the success or failure of a product. Meanwhile, consumer behaviour is a process which consumers go through when they make purchases and it involves numerous factors that influence their decisions. As a consumer, we make decisions every day. Some are far reaching while others may be trivial and inconsequential. However, we all know that human beings are irrational, our preferences often deviate from rationality in the standard economics. We often make the wrong decision and it may bring unfavourable consequences along with negative side effects. There are countless reasons for making irrational decisions. One of the most astonishing arguments I recently discovered is that people feel the pain of loss more acutely than they feel the pleasure of gain. Why this happened ? For instance, when we buy a sofa from IKEA, they often provide a 30 days money back guarantee. However, even if we noticed that the sofa has imperfections, we seldom go back and return. Why ? It is because we consider returning the sofa as a loss. A ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 36. The Buddha From Gandhara And Theotokos Of Vladimir After looking at all the themes listed, the theme of Picturing the Divine: Gods, Goddesses, Prophets, Buddhas, and Saints caught my eyes. Out of this theme, I picked two incredible works of art, Meditating Buddha and Vladimir Virgin. When you first look and read the title of the theme I choose, it may cross your mind that my theme has something to do with religion. Meditating Buddha from Gandhara and Theotokos of Vladimir may come from different cultural traditions; however they both share the same general theme of picturing the divines. The Meditating Buddha or Seated Buddha from Gandhara is an early statue of Buddha from Gandhara, Pakistan. This work of art is from the Culture of Buddhism and was made around the 2nd or 3rd century. Buddhism still exists today and is one of the leading religions in the world, which explains why the statue is still well known to this day and why it is still represented over and over again throughout history. The statue is now located in Room 33, British Museum in London. On the other hand, Vladimir Virgin is a medieval Byzantine icon of the Virgin and Child. Virgin Mary is seen as the holy protector of Russia. Like I said earlier, it is one of the most respected Orthodox icons and an early example of iconography of the Eleusa type. The icon is displayed in a gallery called Tretyakov Gallery in Moscow. The icon was believed to be painted in Constantinople sometime around the 11th and 12th century. • 37. Strengths And Weaknesses That Are Essential In A... In his research Rogers identified six elements which are necessary in a counselling relationship for therapeutic change or growth to occur. Three of these elements are closely associated with the personal qualities which the counsellor brings to their relationship with clients. These are now famously referred to as the core conditions. The first of these core conditions is empathy, which has been described as the ability to feel what it s like to walk in someone else s shoes, and is very different from sympathy, as this touching animation explains. The second condition is referred to as Unconditional Positive Regard (UPR) and it is perhaps closely related to unconditional love. • 38. Freyr Research Paper The sun has been depicted as a god or an object pulled by a god throughout many mythologies. Most people may think of Helios, Apollo, or Ra when the term sun god comes up, but in Norse mythology, there is yet another god of the sun. Frey, who is also known as Freyr, is a god who is considered to be a god of the sun, among many other things. It can be said that Frey is to the Norsemen what Apollo was to the Greeks. He was one of the many deities that made up Norse mythology, and also one of the most interesting. Frey was the Norse god of the sun, rain, agriculture, fertility, and health, and an important god in the Norse culture. He was part of the group of gods called the Vanir, a peace loving tribe, and he s also an honorary member of the other tribe of Norse gods, the Aesir (McCoy). ... Frey was often symbolized by his favored boar, Golden Bristles, who pulled his sun chariot. Being the god of fertility, he is depicted, logically, with a gigantic phallus (Leeming). As the god of fertility and agriculture, farmers worshipped him and traveled with an image of Frey in their wagons. They believed this practice made their crops thrive. Many ancient Scandinavian families claimed to be descended from Frey because they thought his presence guaranteed a plentiful harvest and peace (Lindahl). As with most gods in other mythologies, there was a complex family system. Frey had a twin sister, Freya, with whom he also had a child with. • 39. An Analysis Of George Ritzer s Five Components Of... McDonaldization McDonaldization is a term used by sociologist George Ritzer in his book The McDonaldization of Society (1993). Ritzer uses McDonaldization to describe a sociological phenomenon that is happening in our society. He explains that it becomes demonstrated when a culture adopts the principles of a fast food restaurant. Essentially, the term McDonaldization is the process of rationalization. When Ritzer titled his book The McDonaldization of Society he is actually referring to the rationalization of society. Thus, the use of the word McDonaldization simply indicates that the fast food restaurant is one of many great examples of rationality. Ritzer discusses five components of McDonaldization: efficiency, predictability, control, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For example, Safeway supermarket employees use non human technology to scan food in barcodes. Non human technology does not only controls the workers but customers as well. For instance, customers face a variety of structural barriers and they follow the norms when they enter a Safeway supermarket for they have to walk down aisles to obtain their desired goods. All of these are ways to control customers at the Safeway supermarkets to act in a manner in which the business wants them to act. The effects of non human technology in supermarkets illustrate how they are controlling customers wants and needs. The idea of a rationalized system can also become inefficient when there are too many regulations, which leads to irrationality. Although Safeway supermarkets find it efficient to stock up on all products, it is not efficient when you have to wade through the mini departments of the deli, the bakery, the fresh produce section, and aisle after aisle just to find what you are looking for. Another example of irrationality is that people know fast food is not good for their health but yet they still eat it, because it is efficient, cheap, and fast. People have taken McDonaldization to the next level where if they cannot have their dinner made within fifteen minutes they find something else that is quick and easy such as going to Safeway and purchasing frozen microwavable ... • 40. Analysis Of The Poem Porphyria s Lover Love can purely take an over a man, and drive him crazy. Robert Browning, demonstrates Porphyria s Lover as a terrifying love story given from a lunatic s point of view. It is the story of a man who is so obsessed with Porphyria that he decides to keep her for himself. In this poem however, we find that this poem is more than just about a lunatic, and his obsession, but rather find ourselves in the midst of a poem more depth. First, we can see how the role of nature can express the mood of the poem. We find that Browning uses many poetic devices such as imagery, meter and rhyme to give the poem that horrifying, spine chilling feeling. Also how Porphyria s Lover is interesting because of the importance of class and society during the Victorian era. Browning is known for his dramatic monologues, but in this poem, it s the reader s takes ability to make inferences as well as to analyze the speaker s attitude towards Porphyria since he does not give any background information of himself or the women she is obsessed with, Porphyria. The Poem begins with a description of the weather, telling us that it is night, and the rain has just settled in. We know things are soon to change when the poem tells us that the sullen wind was soon awake (Browning 2), then tells us it tore the elm tops down for Spite (3). the storm is being personified with such words as sullen , awake and spite that make it feel that the weather conscious and knows what it is doing.
