Overcoming The Odds
Perseverance Bullies will push someone over the edge to make themselves feel good. That youth
might cry, but if he stands up to the bully he might learn something by doing so. Standing up to the
bully shows strength and makes the bully realize he can t control the life that was meant to be free.
Perseverance means simply not to give up. Perseverance pushes people where they would not have
gone and gives them a lasting mental toughness that helps them to deal with whatever is in their path.
Perseverance was shown in the stories; Overcoming the Odds, and About Nick: His Story by doing
what they would not have done without persevering through their problems. The article Overcoming
the Odds explains about the Royals 2015 season. The Royals seemed like the team that overcame
obstacles together, but in reality each player had a story behind their victory. Take Chris Young for
example, who missed all of 2013 as he contended with thoracic outlet syndrome, and later mourned
his father s death during the season. Young had all the reason to give up and nobody would have
blamed him. Like Chris Young, Nick from the story About Nick: ... Show more content on

A Spiritual Perspective On Theological Inquiry Essay
A Spiritual Perspective on Theological Inquiry
Spiritual practice and theological inquiry are not mutually exclusive, rather they possess an intrinsic
connection. This relationship also exists between spirituality and self reflexivity, promoting an
examined life which connects to a larger moral vision that extends beyond the self into the
community. Spirituality, theological inquiry, and self reflexivity interact as a paradox of religious
identity rooted in one s being while also being critically open, fair minded, and participatory in
dialogue. Karl Rahner s The Hearer of the Message delineates the inherent connectivity between
academic and spiritual life, religious tradition and community, theology and self reflexivity. Through
the lense of Rahner, I will argue that the self reflexive writing and pursuit of philosophical theology in
both religious and academic contexts is a spiritual practice.
Obstacles to an Academic and Spiritual Life
Rahner underscores the interlocking relationship of philosophy and theology, and this idea directly
pertains to the relationship between academic and spiritual contexts. Rather than being so opposed, the
love of wisdom is akin to the love of the Divine. Stemming from a collection of sources, I will explore
the relationship of spirituality to the present world, in religious and academic spheres. Schneider s

Company Overview
Research in Motion, (RIM), is a global leader in wireless innovation, (which) revolutionized the
mobile industry with the introduction of the BlackBerry solution in 1999 [ (Research In Motion, 2011)
]. While RIM has no publically available mission statement [ (missionstudy, 2009) ], we can deduct
the following: 1) From the aforementioned description, they are committed to innovation. 2) From the
article we will discuss later on, they are seeking to strengthen ... Show more content on

The article lastly lists the other strategies that RIM has been employing to encourage app development
citing extreme price cuts and Playbook s virtual android environment which allows android apps to be
easily transferred over to the Playbook. This is only possible due to the Android platform being an
open OS meaning anyone can develop on it including competitors.
With an organizational theory perspective, this article best articulates a manifestation of 2 important
concepts in the mobile market: 1) A resource based approach of assessing organizational effectives
with apps and app developers being the scarce resource of note 2) A description of the organizational
ecosystem being that of population ecology . This is demonstrated by the possible compatibility of
Android and RIM platforms and the selection process of the market that is still happening most
notably with the abandonment of HP s webOS
Resource Based Approach of Organizational Effectiveness
The resource based approach to measuring organizational effectiveness focuses solely on an
organizations ability to obtain scarce or key resources. The key measures of this approach are: *
Ability to perceive and interpret the external environment * Ability to respond to environmental
change * Bargaining position
While RIM s ability to obtain manufacturing resources is not being questioned, its ability to lure app

Constructivism In International Relations
In international relations, constructivism is regarded to be the starting point of the institutionalization
of values that leads to the development of collaborative behaviors within the international community.
Constructivism is based on the following core principles:
1. states are identified as main actors in the international system;
2. states are conceptualized as socially constructed entities;
3. states pursue different objectives and comply with different principles and norms, which affect and
exert influence on state behavior.
(Karen A. Mingst, Ivan M. Arreguin Toft. Essentials of International Relations. 5th edition.)

Egger s Corruption In Zeitoun
By reading the recent news stories of Zeitoun and his ex wife Kathy, my perception of him was
extremely skewed as I read Zeitoun. Rather than viewing him as the heroic and invincible man that he
was, I found myself constantly looking forward to the abusive man he is, ignoring the courageous acts
he had accomplished. He originally comes off as a fearless, valiant man in the novel Zeitoun, but now
he is a criminal. This alteration was provoked. The current actions of Zeitoun enhance Eggers purpose
and prove to be a primary consequence of the corruption he had experienced. David Eggers wrote the
novel, Zeitoun to dismantle the strong façade of the United and to reveal that when aid was needed
most, the government only managed to worsen conditions. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Rather than escaping disaster and fleeing New Orleans, he decided to sacrifice his safety and guard his
city. Zeitoun felt as if he had been called to stay, that God knew he would be of service if he remained.
His choice to stay in the city had been God s will (Eggers110). Excerpts such as this one illustrate
Zeitoun as an extremely religious and valiant man. He put others before himself and took
responsibilities into his own hands. However, when Zeitoun was placed in Camp Greyhound, his
valiant character slowly began to fade. Due to mistreatment, Zeitoun, the valiant hero, began to waste
away; he knew the conditions had begun to take a very real toll on his psyche. He had been angry until
now, but he had been thinking clearly. Now the connections were more tenuous...It diminished the
humanity in all of them (Eggers236). Eggers further displayed Zeitoun s diminishing mental stability
when he was placed in a maximum security unit at Hunt s correctional center. Eggers wrote, ...he had
been confined twenty three hours a day to his cell...The environment would drive any sane man mad
(Eggers264). However, as we look towards Zeitoun s actions after he was released, he appeared to be
okay, despite his desire to work himself for hours more than usual. The only noticeable mental issues
that were a result of his mistreatment were displayed within Kathy s character. Eggers included that

Bite Marks Weaknesses
Weaknesses of Bite Mark Analysis The lack of large scale systematic research and data collection on
the correlation between bite marks and dentition limits the degree to which bite marks can be
considered a unique character. By its nature, research concerning bite marks, especially on humans,
are difficult to conduct. Models using animal skin or wax are often used in bite mark research as well
as education. Though these models are a good tool for research, they cannot replace data sourced from
humans. A study has shown that examiners have a lower degree of reliability when examining bite
marks in animal skin versus those in wax (Whittaker, 1975). This decrease in reliability can easily roll
over to the examination of human bite marks. Research also varies in their findings: some negating
their uniqueness (Bush, Bush, Sheets, 2010), while others support it (Rawson, Ommen, Kinard,
Johnson , Yfanits, 1984). These differing results can be attributed to the sample size which the
researchers used. Forensic odontologists lack sufficient data to conclusively ascertain the prevalence
of specific dental characteristics within a given population and thus have difficulty providing
scientifically proven probabilities of dentition patterns matching. A match is described as specimens
that could not be determined as distinguishable within measurement error (Saks, Albright, Bohan,
Bierer, Bowers, 2016, p. 558). However, it is found that the probability of having matches

Anti Gun Policy
Gun policy is unlike any other form of public policy. The topic is rich in content, stemming
economics, history, political science, law, governments just to name a few of the disciplines. Unlike
may forms of public policy, most everyone seems to have a set opinion when it comes to policies
regarding guns. Many people focus on a desire to regulate gun commerce, possession, and use, with
most policy proposals engendering intense controversy. America is distinct from other advanced
nations because it is one of the only countries wherein the right to bear arms is constitutionally
protected. America s relationship with guns, by the numbers, is unique in a tragic way. On an average

While the constitution does guarantee a right to bear arms it is still open to interpretation as to whether
it the guarantee is in place to protect private property or to be a part of a militia protecting the USA.
Either way, unlike most other nations, there is a long history within the US that goes back to the
founding of the country and like freedom of speech, the right to bear arms is a passionate part of the
ethos of the country. Therefore any attempt to regulate or denigrate that right will be seen by some as
an attack on the constitution. The most practical way to balance this right with the practicality of today
s weapons, which are much more lethal than a musket of the 1700 s, is to regulate the accessories such
as bullet types, magazine sizes etc. or regulate the process of obtaining a weapon through closing the
loopholes that currently exist in the law background checks, waiting periods, or restrictions for

Examples Of Rhetorics In Fast Food Nation
When using rhetoric tenets, writers can create arguments that are very effective or ineffective at
persuading an audience. This is seen in Eric Schlosser s book Fast Food Nation in which he uses the
three rhetoric tenets to better assure his claim of fast food but also use the rhetoric tenets ineffectively
in an argument. By using these rhetorical ideas, his writing is very persuasive at points but also left
unsuccessful at other times. The use of ethos in Fast Food Nation is seen many times to help Schlosser
appeal as credible and trustworthy while ensuring that he knows what he is talking about which adds
persuasive flow to the argument. One use of effective ethos is when Schlosser talks about the
McDonald s Corporation taking ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This takes away from the main impact of the claims and doesn t help to strengthen his argument. His
use of ethos strengthens his arguments throughout times in the book but some of the research makes
his claims longer and harder to follow which takes away from the main argument he is trying to
portray. Schlosser s use of logos is also seen in a variety of ways in the book. During the argument
about advertisements and corporate sponsors for school materials in school districts, he states, A 1998
study of these teaching materials by the Consumers Union found that 80 percent were biased,
providing students with incomplete or slanted information that favored the sponsor s products and
views (55). Schlosser s use of logos is effective because the facts and statistics giving an
overwhelming factor on how biased fast food corporations are towards the youth, even when giving
them school supplies. Schlosser uses this example because it shows that fast food corporations want to
persuade children at a young age, which adds sympathy for the youth and hatred towards the big fast
food chains. However, there are times when Schlosser s use of logos does not completely help the
argument. When talking about sanitation crews at meat packing plants, Schlosser looks to build an
argument on how sanitation jobs are unsafe for the workers. He states, Although official statistics are
not kept, the death rate among slaughterhouse sanitation crews is extraordinarily high

Direct Characterization Eliza Gant
Getting ready to go on stage, I felt the first stomach sinking feeling of being truly nervous, for the first
time in my life. Eliza Gant was the character staring in my high school s spring play, and she had
completely taken over my being. Her motherly instinct found its way into my teenage lifestyle, and
the way she approached conflict with a loud voice and obvious attitude altered my usually easy going
demeanor. I had never played a role so great and I was truly worried that my own unique
characteristics would come out on stage, unconnected with this woman who was so unlike me. When I

seemed to shape one another and become one, especially as the show came to its closing. My mother
saw the way I had used her traits to take on an empowered, though aggressive, motherly figure. My
emotions and way of addressing family members were taken directly from the approach I had
witnessed her in mothering my siblings and the many important phone calls she shared with her father

loved the way I looked up to her with all the hard work that made its way into the part. I was

I was amazed at the feedback I received. So many people who knew me well acted as if they had

Why You Should Buy An Apple Macintosh Computer Essay
Do you own a computer? What kind of computer is it? Is it a Microsoft PC, running Windows Vista?
Or is it an Apple Macintosh running Mac OS X? Using a PC can be such a hassle. Macintosh
computers are so much better and easier to use than a PC. Macs also are better for the planet, have a
longer lifespan, have more reliable hardware, are less likely to crash or get viruses, have better
security features, it s very easy to transfer all your files from a PC to a Mac, and a Mac can be a PC if
you really wanted it too. But I will explain that last one later. First, I will tell you about how the build
of the Macintosh computer is a big reason of the rapid growth of Macs. In 2007, 2008, and 2009,

it. In the year 2008 there were 114,000 known viruses for PC s. But there has never been a virus that
could harm a Mac. Apple does admit they have come across some security flaws, but within a day of
the flaws discovery Apple creates a security update, and every single Mac user gets a notification from
Apple saying that there is a flaw and an update available that can correct it. And personally, I think
one of the reasons Mac is so successful is because of their hardware. For example, lets pretend I
bought a new PC. Dell made the monitor and tower. Mircosoft made the hardware and operating
system. Intel made the processor. Nvidia made the graphics drive. And the consumer is the one putting
everything together. The average desktop PC takes 2.5 hours to put together, and you re the one who
has to do it! If you do one thing wrong you could cut your computer s life in half. The worst part is,
the more pieces and components that are in the computer, there are more places that something could
go wrong. When you buy a desktop Mac,

The Importance Of Liberal Arts In Business Education
Over the years, schools of business education had not seen the need to incorporate liberal arts into
their programs. In the past, employment rates for liberal arts majors had been generally low, which
caused the school of business to turn away from the major and not want anything to do with it.
According to a study conducted at Georgetown University, liberal arts majors were found to have one
of the top unemployment rates at 8.4% (Dumbauld, 2016). They have not provided great job
opportunities and have left their students paying off large amounts of debt with not a lot of money
coming in to pay them. Business once viewed liberal arts as a waste of time, since only certain
subjects were being taught. During the 1970s and 1980s, many colleges began to shift from liberal arts
to professional education in order to meet students demands and maintain enrollment (Delucchi, 2009,
p. 175). With this new restructuring of more business majors being added to the undergraduate
curriculum, a demand driven response had risen to changed student interests (Delucchi, 2009, p. 175).
Business has become such a popular major because it is needed in so many fields and assures
graduates with a stable career path. Liberal arts colleges cannot guarantee this same promise due to
claims of not having a distinctive educational identity and a clear social and political class. Only
certain institutions have been able to support specific liberal arts graduates with high standing
positions in the

Phenotypes pertaining to fins, fin length, and color were observed. Only a few phenotypes, such as fin
length and presence of specific fluorescent proteins, were decided on to be important in understanding
the genetics (Biology 2202 Genetics Laboratory Handout, University of Minnesota Duluth, 2015).
Fishes with these phenotypes were counted and recorded.
Generating Hypotheses
Numbers of the wild type and transgenic fish were compared. Type of transgenes and type of
inheritance were hypothesized based on the patterns seen in the offspring. Using that information can
help determine the parent genotypes and thus determine a final inheritance pattern. A null hypothesis
was then formed relative to the genes and inheritance pattern of each tank (Biology 2202 Genetics
Laboratory Handout, University of Minnesota Duluth, 2015).
Data Analysis
Hypothesis were generated by comparing the phenotypes of each tank. The hypothesis included the
ratio and expected inheritance pattern, and that any difference is due to chance. Using the information
collected based on the genotypes of the parents and the formed hypothesis, the expected value for each
phenotype were calculated and recorded. A chi square test was used to determine the P value and

marketplace that addresses the needs of the portable digital music market segment. It explains how it
is small enough to fit comfortably in a shirt pocket. It shows how the device addresses the
shortcomings of other portable MP3 music devices. It also looks at how market segmentation has been
one of the most vital factors fueling the demand for technological products, as companies recognize

Stocks On The Stock Market
There are thousands of stocks on the stock market. It can be a daunting task deciding which stocks to
invest in. Typically stocks are broken into two general categories: growth stocks and value stocks.
Growth stocks are typically considered companies that are expected to increase at rates above the
average rate of the market. These investments typically do not pay any form of dividends, preferring
to reinvest their earnings back into projects with the hope of helping the company to develop and
expand even further. Growth stocks do not immediately produce results; most of the value is derived
from the future earnings. In essence, you are investing in what the company will become instead of
what the company is now. Value stocks are companies that are or close to full maturity. There is not a
lot of room for growth with this stocks. Because of this, these stocks usually pay out dividends to
make their investors happy. In essence, you are investing in what the company is now and what it will
be in the future. The tendency for most new investors is to go for the growth stocks, because they
seem attractive and provide the most potential for returns. These are the stocks that can soar up 100%
in a year. While exciting, these stocks are also the ones that can plunge very quickly and cause panic
in the market. So what should you be doing? Look for undervalue stocks. Investing in undervalue
stocks is the ticket to make great returns year after year. Investing in undervalue

Bacterial Growth Lab
Bacteria Growth Comparison at Severn School
Introduction The purpose of this lab is to observe bacterial growth between a water fountain and door
handle
to determine which surface grows more bacteria. Bacteria are single celled organisms without a
nucleus
and are the simplest forms of life. They grow/divide thorough Binary Fission, a type of asexual
reproduction. During Binary Fission, the material of one cell separates in to two cells.
In order for this to happen, the original cell must copy it s genetic material so both daughter cells have
a
copy of the DNA. Binary Fission is very common and can repeat every 20 minutes. (Diversity of

The Theme Of Rebellion In George Orwell s 1984
Rebellions happened all throughout history and still continue in the present. Bacon s Rebellion
continues to have a lasting impact on today s society. In the novel 1984 by George Orwell, the theme
of rebellion is prevalent. The government system of Big Brother controls every aspect of the people s
lives. As the story progresses, the main character Winston Smith, finds himself having hatred for Big
Brother and wants to find a way to end the Party s reign. Other characters, like Julia, only want to
rebel for personal reasons and want no major changes. In George Orwell s 1984, the use of imagery to
draw parallels between Winston s struggle against Big Brother and man s repeated clashes with nigh
totalitarian government. The struggle to beat a power that has already gained control is grueling. In
order to successfully revolt, there would need to be a large mass of people willing to uprise. The
people in overpowering governments are brainwashed to believe in the false reality placed in front of
them. Trying to convince people what they have been told is fake is a challenge that is hard to surpass.
Winston Smith placed himself on a mission to help take down Big Brother, and in turn takes down
himself. Winston wanted to rebel against Big Brother for future generations to experience life in a way
he is unable to. With memories of the past, Winston realizes the world he lives in is very flawed.
Mentally, Winston wants to destroy Big Brother; however, Winston wants to remain part of

The Federal Budget Deficit And National Debt
The Federal Budget Deficit and National Debt Basically, what the federal budget deficit is a shortage
of funds that are available for the government, where more money is being spent than what the
government receives. But, national is where the government borrows money through various ways.
The data for national debt and federal budget deficit from the year 2001 2013 is given in the chart
above. As we can see in the graph, the deficit is still remains in our economy even though there had
been a surplus in 1999 to 2001. But, we could see a lot if decreases such as from the year 2004 2007,
2009 2010 and also from 201 2014, but generally the deficit kept increasing yearly. The data provided
is in trillions and a positive value means ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
From the graph above, for instance, we could say that the budget deficit increased rapidly from 2007
2009 and we could say that the main is due to the Great Recession. The governments act trying to
counter attack this effect by improving fiscal policy for the betterment of business cycle lead to more
outlay than revenue, which resulted in the increase of the deficit promptly. So, therefore borrowing the
money to deal with deficit lead to increase in the national debt. Crowding out occurs when spending
by an individual or an organisation or to be more precise, private spending decreases and by
increasing the government spending. People sometimes use this as an alternative replacement and lets
the government to spend more. This is a very big problem causer because as the government decided
to spend more, it leads to higher budget deficit and debt and the overall spending may decline rapidly.
So, therefore if they let the government to spend more instead of them it results to the lesser
consumption of resources and spending on it. This can lead to decreasing the interest rates which
results in less investment by people and major drop in the business sector. In order to shift the
economy up from the times and effect of the great recession, government tend to raise the budgets at
times, government give more outlays in the form of social security and other fiscal policy techniques.
As a result, the government borrows capital to pay for this,

Great Gatsby Scarlet Letter Essay

AP English
March 22, 2000
The Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne and The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald are two
novels, which address similar themes with completely opposite resolves. The authors use their main
characters, Hester, Dimmesdale, Gatsby, and Daisy, in their respective works to present these themes.
The action in both novels revolves around unfaithfulness, its effects on the characters, and the results
of committing adultery, which prove to be antipode from one novel to the other. These antitheses can
be found by a look at the different roles of adultery in the novels. One major theme found in both
novels and addressed in different ways is adultery. Unfaithfulness is ever present in The Great ... Show

Hester and Dimmesdale sinned by having sex, Hester was married and Dimmesdale was a reverend.
This act of impurity was turned to a positive with the birth of Pearl, their personal spiritual growth,
and their maturity. On the contrary, the love that Daisy and Gatsby had before their separation was
pure. They were in love for all the right reasons, and stayed in touch while Jay entered the army.
However, Daisy then fell in love with money and the man who brought it, Tom. When Gatsby
returned, he tried to make their love work again, but his efforts were made through deceit, and illegal
activities. These attempts to win Daisy through a false persona and money made Daisy s love a
possession, which could be won or even bought, and subsequently it became impure. These
contradictions and paradox continue through the novel into the endings.
The differing attitudes towards unfaithfulness in the novels result in differing conclusions for the
characters. Although Hester and Dimmesdale do not consummate their relationship, their tribulations
are not for naught. Both become better, more understanding, people because of their experiences.
There is also the birth of Pearl to validate their affair. Daisy and Gatsby never end up together either.
However, neither one is the better as a result of them having eloped. Gatsby dies a horrible death, but

The Egyptian Syrian Attack Of September 1973
Assess the reasons for Israel s unpreparedness for the Egyptian Syrian attack of October 1973
The Egyptian Syrian attack that took place on Yon Kippur is a hugely significant event in the history
of the Arab Israeli conflict. Often referred to as the trauma , the attack revealed a number of key issues
with regards to Israeli defence and intelligence that ultimately resulted in a severe lack of preparation.
Israel was unprepared for a plethora of interlinking issues that resulted in a series of fatal mistakes
with regard to intelligence and military preparedness. With regards intelligence, an entrenched and
overconfident conviction in the Concept blinded the Israeli s to the concrete evidence and
forewarnings of the Egyptian Syrian mobilization. The ingenuity of the Egyptian s was also crucial to
Israeli unpreparedness, especially the deployment of the almost certain double agent Ashraf Marwan.
The Concept is the first significant reason why Israel was grossly unprepared for the attack she did not
expect it and this was blunder of her own making. Upon official investigation into the errors of Israeli
preparation, the 1975 Agranat Commission highlighted Israel s Military Intelligence Directorate Aman
had persistently adhered to a single incorrect Concept regarding Egypt s attack capabilities,
disregarding other key intelligence as a result. This Concept was that Egypt would not wage war on
the Israeli s before she had, firstly, acquired long range attack

Why A Pressure Washer Is Useful And Worth The Expense
If you re thinking of buying a pressure washer to clean the siding on your house, but you re afraid it s

other uses for a pressure washer you may not have considered.
Bring An Old Wood Fence Back To Life
A pressure washer is great for blasting dirt off a chain link or vinyl fence. However, it really comes in
handy when you want to restore an old wood fence. As a wood fence ages, the wood oxidizes and
turns a silver or gray color. What you may not know is that the silver color is just on the surface and
you can blast it off with a pressure washer. Just don t use a setting that s so high it damages the wood.
Adjust the pressure so the water is strong enough to take off the silver layer and the color of your
fence will be restored so you fence practically looks brand new. ... Show more content on

This experiment was conducted to determine the extent to which commercially bought pipettes
accurately deliver desired volumes. A range of small and large volumes of DI water were drawn using
three different sized pipettes and massed using an analytical balance. The weights of the water aliquots
were divided by the appropriate density of water at 26 to calculate the actual volumes delivered. Error
percent analysis was then utilized to deduce the deviation from the accurate volumes. The three
different sizes of pipettes used were Epprendorf 10, 100 and 1000 L. The results entailed a higher
accuracy in delivering the large volumes, compared to the small volumes, within the same pipette. In
addition, the medium sized pipette (10 100L) was the most accurate in delivering the targeted

INTRODUCTION: Tape recorder was invented for recording sound by Fritz Pfleumer in 1928 based
on the invention of magnetic wire recording by valdemar poulsen in 1898.The first tape recorder from
AGE was the magnetophon K1, demonstrated in Germany in 1935.Eduard schuller of AGE built the
recorders and developed a ring shaped recording and playback head. A tape recorder is a portable
electronic gadget used to record, reproduce, erase and rerecord sound on a magnetic tape. This devise
can be used without any problem anybody by operating the press buttons attached to the recorder, viz.

The World According To Americans 2012 Summary
The world has a perception of the American people and it s not as flattering as we would like to be. In
Yanko Tsvetlov s image The World According To Americans 2012 he illustrates in a brilliantly colored
map exactly how that perception appears to the rest of the international community. Using a map of
the entire world, Tsvetlov somewhat comically and perhaps accurately labels countries or regions of
the map in condescending statements or stereotypes (Tsvetlov). These labels are Tsvetlov s
interpretation of how the American people, either through lack of education or culture or perhaps
simple misconception, see various regions of the globe. Our arrogance and ignorance as a nation has
painted a picture for the rest of the world to easily judge us by. From tourists misbehaving to soldiers
acting foolishly abroad, the world sees too much of the wrong side of the American people. Tsvetlov
leaves his image open to much interpretation allowing the audience to draw its own conclusion about
what exactly he s trying to suggest. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

referred to as kangaroo riders reinforcing the idea that Americans characterize the world into simple

Advantages And Disadvantage Of Financial Ratio Analysis In...
Ratio analysis is the analysis of firm s financial statements using ratios during a particular period of
time to assess business soundness. Financial ratio analysis is one of the oldest types of financial
analysis and the most common among financial analysts, and it is one of the most important tools of
analysis used by those who analyze the financial statements of the companies. The reason for the
spread of financial ratio analysis is the ease of understanding and extraction.
A ratio refers to a figure or percentage derived from dividing one item from one financial statement by
another item from same or another financial statement (Periasamy, 2010, p. 233). It means that it is an
accounting ratio.
2.2 Background of ratio analysis
The first use of ratio analysis goes back to the second half of 19th century. In that time, scientific
management and credit analysis had some development and had an important impact on improving
financial ratios. In 1870, banks in the United States began to request the financial statements of
borrowers before granting loans, in1890, financial statements became attachments within any borrow
request. Commercial banks studied the relationship between current assets and current liabilities of
borrowed companies. As a result, the current ratio had been used for the first time in 1891. By the
beginning of 20th century, some studies were published, in which more than one ratio were used.
Later, in 1912, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

How The Schools Shortchange Boys By Gerry Garibaldi
In the essay How the Schools Shortchange Boys , author Gerry Garibaldi addresses the concern of
boys behaviors in school. Garibaldi first starts out by stating the feminist complaints that girls were
losing their voice in a male oriented classroom have precipitated the school s establishment to be more
in their favor. This has led to boys becoming increasingly disconnected inside the classrooms.
Garibaldi claims that only 65 percent earned high school diplomas in the class of 2003, compared with
72 percent of girls. He continues by mentioning about how girls are outnumbering boys on most
university campuses in the country. According to Christina Hoff Sommers, author of The War Against

  • 2. Overcoming The Odds Perseverance Bullies will push someone over the edge to make themselves feel good. That youth might cry, but if he stands up to the bully he might learn something by doing so. Standing up to the bully shows strength and makes the bully realize he can t control the life that was meant to be free. Perseverance means simply not to give up. Perseverance pushes people where they would not have gone and gives them a lasting mental toughness that helps them to deal with whatever is in their path. Perseverance was shown in the stories; Overcoming the Odds, and About Nick: His Story by doing what they would not have done without persevering through their problems. The article Overcoming the Odds explains about the Royals 2015 season. The Royals seemed like the team that overcame obstacles together, but in reality each player had a story behind their victory. Take Chris Young for example, who missed all of 2013 as he contended with thoracic outlet syndrome, and later mourned his father s death during the season. Young had all the reason to give up and nobody would have blamed him. Like Chris Young, Nick from the story About Nick: ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 3. A Spiritual Perspective On Theological Inquiry Essay A Spiritual Perspective on Theological Inquiry Spiritual practice and theological inquiry are not mutually exclusive, rather they possess an intrinsic connection. This relationship also exists between spirituality and self reflexivity, promoting an examined life which connects to a larger moral vision that extends beyond the self into the community. Spirituality, theological inquiry, and self reflexivity interact as a paradox of religious identity rooted in one s being while also being critically open, fair minded, and participatory in dialogue. Karl Rahner s The Hearer of the Message delineates the inherent connectivity between academic and spiritual life, religious tradition and community, theology and self reflexivity. Through the lense of Rahner, I will argue that the self reflexive writing and pursuit of philosophical theology in both religious and academic contexts is a spiritual practice. Obstacles to an Academic and Spiritual Life Rahner underscores the interlocking relationship of philosophy and theology, and this idea directly pertains to the relationship between academic and spiritual contexts. Rather than being so opposed, the love of wisdom is akin to the love of the Divine. Stemming from a collection of sources, I will explore the relationship of spirituality to the present world, in religious and academic spheres. • 7. Egger s Corruption In Zeitoun By reading the recent news stories of Zeitoun and his ex wife Kathy, my perception of him was extremely skewed as I read Zeitoun. Rather than viewing him as the heroic and invincible man that he was, I found myself constantly looking forward to the abusive man he is, ignoring the courageous acts he had accomplished. He originally comes off as a fearless, valiant man in the novel Zeitoun, but now he is a criminal. This alteration was provoked. The current actions of Zeitoun enhance Eggers purpose and prove to be a primary consequence of the corruption he had experienced. David Eggers wrote the novel, Zeitoun to dismantle the strong façade of the United and to reveal that when aid was needed most, the government only managed to worsen conditions. ... Zeitoun felt as if he had been called to stay, that God knew he would be of service if he remained. His choice to stay in the city had been God s will (Eggers110). Excerpts such as this one illustrate Zeitoun as an extremely religious and valiant man. He put others before himself and took responsibilities into his own hands. However, when Zeitoun was placed in Camp Greyhound, his valiant character slowly began to fade. Due to mistreatment, Zeitoun, the valiant hero, began to waste away; he knew the conditions had begun to take a very real toll on his psyche. He had been angry until now, but he had been thinking clearly. Now the connections were more tenuous...It diminished the humanity in all of them (Eggers236). • 8. Bite Marks Weaknesses Weaknesses of Bite Mark Analysis The lack of large scale systematic research and data collection on the correlation between bite marks and dentition limits the degree to which bite marks can be considered a unique character. By its nature, research concerning bite marks, especially on humans, are difficult to conduct. Models using animal skin or wax are often used in bite mark research as well as education. Though these models are a good tool for research, they cannot replace data sourced from humans. A study has shown that examiners have a lower degree of reliability when examining bite marks in animal skin versus those in wax (Whittaker, 1975). This decrease in reliability can easily roll over to the examination of human bite marks. Research also varies in their findings: some negating their uniqueness (Bush, Bush, Sheets, 2010), while others support it (Rawson, Ommen, Kinard, Johnson , Yfanits, 1984). These differing results can be attributed to the sample size which the researchers used. Forensic odontologists lack sufficient data to conclusively ascertain the prevalence of specific dental characteristics within a given population and thus have difficulty providing scientifically proven probabilities of dentition patterns matching. A match is described as specimens that could not be determined as distinguishable within measurement error (Saks, Albright, Bohan, Bierer, Bowers, 2016, p. 558). • 13. The Importance Of Liberal Arts In Business Education Over the years, schools of business education had not seen the need to incorporate liberal arts into their programs. In the past, employment rates for liberal arts majors had been generally low, which caused the school of business to turn away from the major and not want anything to do with it. According to a study conducted at Georgetown University, liberal arts majors were found to have one of the top unemployment rates at 8.4% (Dumbauld, 2016). They have not provided great job opportunities and have left their students paying off large amounts of debt with not a lot of money coming in to pay them. Business once viewed liberal arts as a waste of time, since only certain subjects were being taught. During the 1970s and 1980s, many colleges began to shift from liberal arts to professional education in order to meet students demands and maintain enrollment (Delucchi, 2009, p. 175). With this new restructuring of more business majors being added to the undergraduate curriculum, a demand driven response had risen to changed student interests (Delucchi, 2009, p. 175). Business has become such a popular major because it is needed in so many fields and assures graduates with a stable career path. • 28. Great Gatsby Scarlet Letter Essay Jason Bello AP English March 22, 2000 The Scarlet Letter by Nathaniel Hawthorne and The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald are two novels, which address similar themes with completely opposite resolves. The authors use their main characters, Hester, Dimmesdale, Gatsby, and Daisy, in their respective works to present these themes. The action in both novels revolves around unfaithfulness, its effects on the characters, and the results of committing adultery, which prove to be antipode from one novel to the other. These antitheses can be found by a look at the different roles of adultery in the novels. One major theme found in both novels and addressed in different ways is adultery. This act of impurity was turned to a positive with the birth of Pearl, their personal spiritual growth, and their maturity. On the contrary, the love that Daisy and Gatsby had before their separation was pure. They were in love for all the right reasons, and stayed in touch while Jay entered the army. However, Daisy then fell in love with money and the man who brought it, Tom. When Gatsby returned, he tried to make their love work again, but his efforts were made through deceit, and illegal activities. These attempts to win Daisy through a false persona and money made Daisy s love a possession, which could be won or even bought, and subsequently it became impure. These contradictions and paradox continue through the novel into the endings. The differing attitudes towards unfaithfulness in the novels result in differing conclusions for the characters. Although Hester and Dimmesdale do not consummate their relationship, their tribulations are not for naught. Both become better, more understanding, people because of their experiences. There is also the birth of Pearl to validate their affair. Daisy and Gatsby never end up together either. However, neither one is the better as a result of them having eloped. The Egyptian Syrian Attack Of September 1973 Assess the reasons for Israel s unpreparedness for the Egyptian Syrian attack of October 1973 The Egyptian Syrian attack that took place on Yon Kippur is a hugely significant event in the history of the Arab Israeli conflict. Often referred to as the trauma , the attack revealed a number of key issues with regards to Israeli defence and intelligence that ultimately resulted in a severe lack of preparation. Israel was unprepared for a plethora of interlinking issues that resulted in a series of fatal mistakes with regard to intelligence and military preparedness. With regards intelligence, an entrenched and overconfident conviction in the Concept blinded the Israeli s to the concrete evidence and forewarnings of the Egyptian Syrian mobilization. The ingenuity of the Egyptian s was also crucial to Israeli unpreparedness, especially the deployment of the almost certain double agent Ashraf Marwan. The Concept is the first significant reason why Israel was grossly unprepared for the attack she did not expect it and this was blunder of her own making. Upon official investigation into the errors of Israeli preparation, the 1975 Agranat Commission highlighted Israel s Military Intelligence Directorate Aman had persistently adhered to a single incorrect Concept regarding Egypt s attack capabilities, disregarding other key intelligence as a result. This Concept was that Egypt would not wage war on the Israeli s before she had, firstly, acquired long range attack ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Ratio analysis is the analysis of firm s financial statements using ratios during a particular period of time to assess business soundness. Financial ratio analysis is one of the oldest types of financial analysis and the most common among financial analysts, and it is one of the most important tools of analysis used by those who analyze the financial statements of the companies. The reason for the spread of financial ratio analysis is the ease of understanding and extraction. A ratio refers to a figure or percentage derived from dividing one item from one financial statement by another item from same or another financial statement (Periasamy, 2010, p. 233). It means that it is an accounting ratio. 2.2 Background of ratio analysis The first use of ratio analysis goes back to the second half of 19th century. In that time, scientific management and credit analysis had some development and had an important impact on improving financial ratios.
