The Importance Of Scientific Observation In The Classroom
Working scientifically is extremely important within the classroom, for it is an educational process
which allows children to advance upon their scientific enquiries and knowledge through the means
of investigation, bettering their understanding of the world around (IAP, 2012 cited in Harlen and
Qualter, 2014:100). The nature of working scientifically incorporates the children s learningof
systems, methods and contexts within the scientific world, allowing them to develop an
understanding of the scientific ideas and processes whilst using skills employed by scientists
(IAP, 2012 cited in Harlen and Qualter, 2014:100). These scientific enquiry skills developed and
used through scientific working are especially significant within the classroom because they are
also applicable to colloquial life, for example, the enquiry skills of: observationand questioning.
Observation is a definitive, important enquiry skill and a cornerstone of the enquiry (Anderson,
Martin, Faszewski, 2006) which a child will utilise whilst working scientifically. By definition,
observation is an enquiry skill which serves as a scientific discipline used for the constructing and
rationalising of explanations and theories; the skill is most effective when the controlling of
variables has been made difficult to efficiently measure the outcomes of an investigation, meaning
observation is the most beneficial way to evaluate results (Smith Reiser, 2005). Moreover, within
the classroom, observation has

How Does Machiavelli Define Fortuna
According to Machiavelli, there are two ways in which one can come to power: by virtГє or by
fortuna. Machiavelli avoids explicitly defining fortuna in The Prince, most likely because the
concept does not have one clear meaning. In fact, Machiavelli signifies that fortuna is a
contradiction that works both in favor of and against political action but is necessary either way.
He depicts fortuna as the luck that contributes to many leaders rise to power, the good fortune that
attributes to a leader ruling for a long time, and the devastating fate that leads to the downfall of
leaders, despite their virtГє.
Machiavelli depicts fortuna as the antithesis of virtГє. Therefore, one must define virtГє before
defining fortuna. VirtГє does not correspond ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He also argues that fortuna has the power to end political action. Once again, Machiavelli uses
Borgia as an example. Borgia made no mistakes while in power and he maintained virtГєoso
throughout his rule. However, he ultimately fell from power. Machiavelli writes that his failure was
due to extraordinary and exceptional hostility on the part of fortune (22). Therefore, fortuna can be
thought of as fate. In the initial letter to Francesco Vettori that precedes The Prince, Machiavelli
states that fortune wants to control everything, she evidently wants to be left a free hand (1). Thus,
fortuna can be the enemy of political action. She is the ultimate determining outcome for whether
or not a prince will be able to maintain his

Cultural Impacts of the Civil Rights Act Until the eighteenth century Civil Rights and Liberty s

Impacts of American Civil Rights laws In recent years, a great deal has gone into fair treatment of
all. As history serves, there was a great civil rights activist that fought for fair treatment of all, one

This doesn t always happen in all cases as it should. In march 2006 a Queens Midtown Tunnel

because his boss denied him of promotion and penalized him for taking sick days because he is

Many who have had an opportunity of knowing any more about mathematics confuse it with
arithmetic, and consider it an arid science. In reality, however, it is a science which requires a great

Anna s political views influenced her sister, who saw this movement as a means to pursue her
education. The sisters decided that the only way to further their education would be for one of
them to marry so they could both travel abroad. They planned a fictitious marriage whereby a
man would agree to the marriage ceremony, but would then let the woman pursue her own life.
This was not an unusual arrangement at the time since it was the only way to free a woman from
her parents authority. The sisters decided that Anna should partake in the fictitious marriage since
she was older. However, when the intended husband, nihilist Vladimir Onufrievich Kovalevsky, a

Cultural Stereotypes In Germany
The nation of Germany is a highly diverse country filled with historic sites and a variety
of countryside. from the North Sea to the Swiss Alps in the south Germany is full of all walks of
life. The language spoken there is Deutsch but just like anywhere else depending upon where
you re located will determine the different types of dialect you might hear. For instance, in the
Northern part of Germany, you might hear a more Danish dialect; in the South, you might
find more Swedish speaking individuals. The German country is rich in history and has
contributed to Europe in a plethora of ways it s almost unprecedented, and their influence is still
felt throughout Europe and the rest of the world today. To say that there is one single German
culture wouldn t be doing the country any justice, Germany is arguably the most culturally
diverse nation in all of Europe. Centralized location in Europe, and the amount of federally
funded programs in Germany is one of the main reasons they are at the top of the list for
immigrations across Europe. The countries has a reputation as a major cultural nation due to
influences in the country throughout the eras from famous music composers to literary geniuses.

The Italian Mafia In The 1970 s
Everyone has heard of the notorious Al Capone. Gang leader from Chicago who is responsible
for many murders. What some may not know is that he was also a part of a much larger
organization known as The Mafia. Defined by Merriam Webster s Collegiate Dictionary as a secret
criminal society the Mafia controls all organized crimein a particular area. They knew how to get
what they wanted without getting caught and were not afraid of anything or anyone. Although the
Mafia is still around today their prime years were from the 1920 s to the 1970 s. `Beginning in the
late 19th century organized crime rose in popularity among American people. The Mafia and its

It is actually a very large group composed of smaller groups in different cities known as families.
Each individual family has its own personal style but follows the same general rules and
organization as the rest of the families in the Mafia. There are about 24 main, known families in
the Mafia (Reppetto 140). The most prominent are in Chicago, New York, New Jersey, Boston,
Detroit, Los Angeles, Philadelphia, and New Orleans. In Chicago Johnny Torrio was the boss
from 1919 1924 when he was shot and moved back to Italy. The Chicago Outfit was then handed
over to Al Capone who was the boss from 1924 1932 when he was sent to Alcatraz. Then Frank

and business in the city there was a lot of opportunity for illegal acts (Reppetto 152). Also during
the 1920 s prohibition era there was never as limit on the amount of alcohol available due to
Chicago s location. As Thomas Reppetto said in his novel American Maffia, drinkers had little
difficulty quenching their thirst no matter where they were. Also Chicago is known as one of the
most corrupt cities in America and this was also true during the 1900 s. Corruption and boss
politics in major government positions also allowed the Mafia to get away with more crimes than
gangs in other places. In fact the government would use the Mafia to get what they wanted done and

Solar Energy Is The Best Type Of Energy
When you close your eyes and think of solar energy, what do you see? Your response is most
likely something positive such as an innovative, efficient, and renewable step forward into the
future. Solar is also thought of to be the best type of energy because the sun will never go away.
Well, solar energy will have to battle it out with natural gas and oil in the near future. As the price
of oil and natural gas continues to drop, solar energylooks less desirable as other sources become
more affordable in the short term (Sanburn 38). Josh Sanburn, author for Time Magazine, does
have a relevant point while discussing solar energy s competitors. The handful of solar energy s
positives makes it easy for the green thumbed consumers of today to overlook the many
negatives. The negatives are very important though when on the topic of something that could
possibly determine the future of the whole world s energy productivity. The number one issue
with the continuation of solar energy is the price. The main solar energy companies try to sell
their panels by repetitively saying that the panels will save money in the long run. Yet solar
energy was the most costly energy source for kW/hr in 2015. The rooftop solar craze is wasting
billions of dollars a year that could be spent on greener initiatives. It also is hindering the growth
of much more cost effective renewable sources of power. Solar energy is able to stay relevant
because of the large amount of subsidies placed by the

Critical Thought And Popular Culture
Mid America Christian University has become my home in the four short months I have been
here. It was a scary and tough decision for me to attend MACU but I wouldn t want it any other
way. Critical thought and popular culture was a required course to take and to be honest, I thought
it was going to be a super boring class. But, it taught me a lot about myself and made me examine
my calling in life a little deeperthan before. In turn, I thoroughly enjoyed this course. Critical
thoughtand popular culture taught me a lot about who I am. These realizations came from class
discussions, learning my strengths, and even a little bitfrom reading Unlikely Disciple. For one, I

I have been able to really figure out in depth what my calling is and what the next step in life
might hold for me. During one of our discussions, we discussed homosexuality and how we
should treat those who live that lifestyle. I came to the conclusion that although I strongly
disagree with that way of living, I do not think that it is our job or our position to try and make
them live the way we do. That was something that I went back and forth with ever since I moved
to Mississippi. I moved at the end of my junior year, and the only person that talked to me was
Colten Nugent, and Colten was gay. We became super close and he knew my view on his
decisions but not once did I feel like it was my place to tell him to stop. He believed in the Lord
and I think that things like addiction and homosexuality are things that the Lord has to work
through with the person, not people. I discovered through this class that this is a social issue
that I am passionate about. Although, I do still believe that we should set a good example of
what being a Christian should be. This was a topic that was very apparent throughout the book
by Kevin Roose, The Unlikely Disciple. I think my biggest pet peeve when it comes to religion is
when people call themselves Christians but do everything in their power to act otherwise. I always
knew that my heart was built around kids, but MACU has helped shape the exact group of kids

Essay On The Ojibwa
The religions of the Ojibwa are very comparable to the Kanina, as far as their belief in the
supernatural. To them, even objects have a purpose. Spirits might visit them in human form or
as objects like rocks or trees. Many were converted into Christians by missionaries and mixed
their native and Christian beliefs. Just as the Kanina, this culture also had Shamans with
specialty powers. They even had a tent, called a shaking tent, which they would use in order to
talk to spirits, request help with problems, or hold ceremonies called Midewiwin. This ceremony
hosts many purposes such as myths about origin and migration, healing, initiating new Ojibwa
members, naming children, and many more. An additional tradition of the Kanina, that is
familiar to us, is the round dance. Or, as we call it, the rain dance. It s identified as the rain dance
to us, because it s said to summon the rain. To the Kanina, however, it was used to gain prosperity,
rain, obviously, as well as function as a social gathering. The festival lasted for up to three days
and in between the great deal of feasting, the chief would bring up important topics. The... Show

notice that in both of these cultures, what you do with the body means a lot to the people within the
cultures. For example, the Kanina seem to be very superstitious and absolutely terrified of the
thought of ghosts. Because of this fear, they must do everything in their power to make sure that
their beloved bodies do not produce a ghost that could potentially haunt them for eternity. Their
solution? Burn the body of their loved one, and all of their belongings. This included their clothes,
firearms, personal nic nacs and also their house, horses, and even their crops. Of course, this was

Gabriel Garcia Marquez s Hundred Years of Solitude Essay
Gabriel Garcia Marquez wrote One Hundred Years of Solitude originally in Spanish in 1967 but
it has been translated into many different languages ever since becoming a literary must for
some. One Hundred Years of Solitude has much to offer with hidden meanings and many literary
ideas that are expressed in a creative way. Marquez had a unique style of writing during his time.
He wrote with the sense that magic was real, and everyone should know it and it was a common
idea. This was ever present in One Hundred Years of Solitudewhen many abnormal things would
happen but in the life they had, it was common; such as when insomnia took over the town and all

Solitude presents itself in the literal form and in the emotional or psychological form. Such
ways are present in the story as people are held captive in jail cells, lost lovers feel empty inside,
or Ursula going blind and being left alone in her own head. In addition the town of Macondo is
itself a civilization of isolation. Its location is separated from any major or small gatherings of
people for miles. Macondo becomes a world of its own; the only one in existence for the people
for all they care to know. With mountain chains and rivers and bodies of water keeping people
alone in Macondo however, people who wish to venture in have at least a six month journey;
Macondo in its entirety represents solitude. The fact that it is one hundred years also deserves a
certain obligation to mull over and think about during the time it takes to read this novel.
However, one hundred years here in this novel is about as relevant as the event of The Hundred
Year War which actually lasted 116 years. In One Hundred Years of Solitude time seems to be
nothing more than an idea that was once said in a repressed memory. In addition, time seems to
skip around and repeat itself and play tricks on the reader such as the repeating of names with every
new generation. Time seems to take its time in some parts with sentences that continue on forever

An Analysis Of Theodora And Attendants And Akhenaton,...
The theme of the two art works, Theodora and Attendants, and Akhenaton, Nefertiti, and Three
Daughters, is Political Authority. This is a theme presented countless times throughout art history,
and is a theme that is still used in art today. It reflects the concerns and desires of the rulers of the
time and is used as a form of propaganda by said rulers to change the minds of the people they are
ruling. Art has power and the rulers use its power to control their people. The presentation of these
pieces reveals that the rulers want their subjects to view them as powerful and divine. Both of these
cultures are also heavily influenced by religion. Both Theodora and attendants and Akhenaton,
Nefertiti, and Three Daughters are forms of political propaganda that use religion to try and
influence their subjects. Akhenaton, Nefertiti, and Three Daughters, is from the Amarnaperiod in
18th dynasty ancient Egypt, which was around c. 1353 1335 BCE. This was a time where art in
ancient Egypt was vastly different from anything that had come before it, mostly due to Akhenaton
himself. The religion of the time was also very different, as it had become a monotheistic religion
instead of a polytheistic one, where everyone now worships the life giving god Aton, represented

BadgerCare is a health care cost reimbursement program that was created by Wisconsin Governor
Tommy Thompson. It went into effect in Wisconsin on July 1,1999, and was created to provide
health care coverage to Wisconsinites whose employers do not provide health care and for
people who make too much money to be covered by Medicaid. BadgerCare began with a small
group of about 3,400 adolescents who were enrolled in the spring of 1999, under new Medicaid
rules that allowed the coverage of children born after September 1983 with a family income of no
more than 100 percent of the federal poverty level. By November of 2000, enrollment in
BadgerCare, including additional Medicaid children, had increased to 51,172. No adults were

Islamic Regime Analysis
Because of the oppressiveness of the Islamic Government, the Regime not only wanted to control its
citizens in public, but also in private. Marjane Satrapi faces this oppressive controlling nature of the
regime throughout the novel, along with everyone else in Iran at the time. To control its citizens at
all times, the Regime regulates clothing, takes controlof private space, and enforces these rules with
strict punishments. Punishments can include losing limbs, extreme torture, or even death. (Satrapi
109/2) The only way to avoid these punishments if you were caught, was to pay off the officers

products, banning parties, regulating clothing, and not allowing PDA. All products that resembled

also had to control its citizens, and it did this by rounding up all of the people who were publically
opposed to the Regime, and executed them all completely. The governmentwas based on scaring the
people, oppressive laws, and torture like enforcement; this is what really pushed its citizens away.
However, the enforcement of rules for the public and private space of citizens was the real catalyst
for demonstrations, the divide between the Regime and its citizens, and the revolution all together.
Without the enforcement and establishment of these rules, the Iranian people would not have
experienced the depressing environment of the Regime. Satrapi compares the peacefulness and

Figurative Meaning Of The Dead By James Joyce
The short story of Dubliners by James Joyce, The Dead, is set in the boisterous early twentieth
century, which brings up the political background of Ireland at that time. This political setting was
hesitant but still optimistic, as Ireland demanded independence from Great Britain and went
through a climactic cultural recovery. The author James Joyceappropriately uses the main character,
Gabriel Conroy, and Gabriel s wife, Gretta Conroy, to help develop the theme of encounters between
the recently dead and the living within the Irish society.
Both characters of Gretta Conroy and Gabriel Conroy in The Dead are also the main purpose for
which the title of the story is created. For instance, one function of the character of Gabriel s wife,
Gretta Conroy, in the story is to demonstrate the figurative meaning of the title. The Dead has

This second and last example of The Dead in a figurative sense is the turning point in the change
of Gabriel Conroy s feelings at the end of the story. Although Gabriel Conroy may look as a
successful well educated person, most of his way of living is focused internally. In other words,
Gabriel is moderately a person who feels inclined to withhold information about his feelings and
thoughts.
When certain circumstances happen, these factors make him think about so much of his own life
as that of the life of any nearby person to him in general. Gabriel, for example, would like to love
intensely his wife, but his ambition to have control of her feelings is stronger than anything else,
(Joyce 213). As a consequence, he maintains a great deal of memories of his relationship to his wife
Greta in the past that are important for him. Notwithstanding, Gabriel recognizes that his marriage

Apostles after the death and resurrection of Christ. The Gospel in his name provides one of the
most commonly used circular for evangelism today, just as it did late in first century Asia Minor.

In Algebra, one can identify a set of coordinates by simply launching the two balls. The student is
then required to find the slope of the line as is dictated by the points without having to do long
calculations. The students are also obligated to find the slope intercept form of the line that has
been formed. On the other hand, the Geometry aspect of the game revolves on the triangle. A
triangle is formed with the points and the origin. The player must then identify the triangle that is
formed before determining the length of the sides of the triangle by simply looking at the board.
This, in theory, decreases the time it takes for students to solve for the sides and slopes of the
triangle. This is also able to increase comprehension of the student regarding a subject matter. This
study is formulated to create a Mathematical Intervention Material that is able to increase
proficiency among the performance of students in Algebra and Geometry. Furthermore, this aims to
augment the interests of students in tackling mathematical concepts. Objective of the Study The

The Painting Essay
The Painting
A picture can paint a thousand words. I found the one picture in my mind that does paint a
thousand words and more. It was a couple of weeks ago when I saw this picture in the writing
center; the writing center is part of State College. The beautiful colors caught my eye. I was so
enchanted by the painting, I lost the group I was with. When I heard about the observation essay,
where we have to write about a person or thing in the city that catches your eye. I knew right away
that I wanted to write about the painting. I don t know why, but I felt that the painting was
describing the way I felt at that moment.

The grass was spread out through the whole painting. If you looked hard enough you can see
flowers of pink and red growing within the grass. There were spots of yellow in the grass
making the grass look as though it was dying. Then the painting had a patch of grass that had a
very vibrant shade of green, that made the grass look so alive. The grass had a willowy quality
that may have suggested that there may have been a breeze.
The river also suggested a breeze, there were ripples that flowed southeast. There were many
different shades of blue in the lake and river. The lake had a darker shade of light blue surrounded
by a dark blue then lined with black. The lake appeared to have a light shining either on top or
the bottom of it, which allowed you to see the grass growing under it. The river had a lighter
shade of light blue with white lines to show the ripples but it was surrounded with the same colors
as the lake. You did not see any grass growing under the river because there was no light shining on
the river.
When I saw the painting for the first time it grabbed my attention. At first I thought it was the
beautiful colors that attracted me to the painting, but it was more. In the picture the shadowy men
look scared. They looked as though they were trying to run away from something and this lake
that forms into this river that is surrounded by tall grass is the way out, or at least a place to hide
until the coast is clear. During that time in my life I felt

Utopian Arcadia
Colonial New Zealand desired a utopian Arcadia, in other words New Zealand was sought to be a

Infant schools in Britain inspired Robert Owen a philanthropist to establish an infant school in
1816 to battle child labour, poverty, disease and neglect. During colonial New ZealandOwen s

The practice of Baby Farming developed a terrible reputation during 1895 because of cases on

So, is artificially selecting animals ethical? Raising animals in captive conditions for domestic

Organized Crime Definition
It is very difficult to give one unified definition for the term Organized Crime . Similarly it is very
difficult to give one concise definition for the term Organized Crime Groups . The conventional
definitions of the organized crime does not provide us with any single definition for such groups
but provides us with certain characteristics that are most commonly found in the criminal groups
also used synonymously with the criminal enterprises. The FBI defines a criminal group or a
criminal enterprise as a group of individuals with an identified hierarchy, or comparable structure,

The group exists for a period of time and finds its roots deep inside the system by making
contacts. These groups aim to commit at least on crime punishable by at least four years

Most of these groups have their terms with the influential individuals in the government or
society in order to obtain immunity from the investigation or any kind of arrest. The
organizations can have a centralized leadership or a decentralized one in the form of a
committee. The rules that these groups follow are very adaptive and flexible. For example, the
productivity of the illegal drugs can be increased with the increase in the demand of the illegal
goods. Similarly the number of employs might also be increased or decreased accordingly.
Another very important characteristic of such organizations is that they often invest their money
in the legal kinds of businesses as well. These businesses provide them with an alibi as well as a

The Economic Order And Manufacture Quantity
The economic order/manufacture quantity (EOQ/EMQ) model developed by Harris (1913) is the
earliest reported scientific treatment of inventory systems, where the sum of inventory costs,
ordering/setup and holding costs, is minimized. Its simple mathematics and ease of calculation is
perhaps what contributed to its popularity with practitioners and academicians (e.g., Fulbright,
1979; Osteryoung et al., 1986). The EOQ/EMQ model continues to be celebrated by many
researchers (Andriolo et al., 2014; Drake and Marley, 2014; Glock et al., 2014; Bushuev et al.
2015). The model s popularity overshadows few critical voices (e.g., Selen and Woods, 1987;
Woolsey, 1990; Weiss, 1990).
Many derivatives of the EOQ/EMQ appeared over the years, of which just in time (JIT) is one of
them (e.g., Andriolo et al., 2014). In contrast to the classical EOQ/EMQ model, just in time (JIT)
produces a product when needed and delivers it when wanted by customers. JIT considers inventory
as a waste to be reduced by producing in smaller lots more frequently, so fewer items are in the
pipeline (Bonney and Jaber, 2011). It also improves quality, productivity, responsiveness, machines
availability, workforce flexibility, space and equipment utilization, flow, and relationship with
suppliers (Cavinato, 1990; Jones, 1990; Mehra and Inman, 1992). JIT is based on continuous
improvement of which reducing setup time (cost) is its primary driver (Zangwill, 1987; Jones,
1990;Cavinato, 1991). Readers are referred to

Citizenship As A Citizen Of A State
A broad description of citizenship is to be a citizen of a state. This can entail numerous
responsibilities and opportunities. With that in mind, it is easier to think of citizenship not just as
something that is owned and held, like a piece of paper, but instead is a responsibility that holds
positive consequences if a citizen upholds their end of the deal. Not only is it a responsibility, but
it is a type of contract between the individual and the state. By making it a contract it holds those
responsibilities and rewards that both sides obtain and uphold at an equal matter. Although some
freedoms are often given up for citizenship, there is an understanding that the contract between the
state and the citizen is not lessened. With the idea of a contract, it is interesting to explore what are
the rights and responsibilities of both the individual and the state, and also how far does the state
extend in the sense of citizenship as a contract, it is possible to have global citizenship. When
discussing any sort of contract, an individual is generally more interested in how it benefits
themselves. These benefits are known as rights. For these purposes, rights are something that are
given to a citizen when they receive citizenship. In the United States, these include things such as
the right to vote or the right to own a gun. What makes rights and freedoms different is that a right
is not automatically assumed by a person what this means is that, a person can buy a gun for

Examples Of Emotional Contagion
Emotional Contagion Emotional contagion is an act where people receive and mimic emotions of
others. This includes the imitation of facial expression, vocal, postures and behavior of those
around them (Hatfield, Cacioppo, Rapson, 1993). Emotional contagion happens unconsciously; a
person who is not afraid of ghost might get scared from watching a horror filmbecause their friends
get very involved with the content. Mass communication depends on emotional contagious as it is
a key to successful advertisements, political campaigns and films. There will be several real life
examples provided so that readers can have a better understanding towards emotional contagion.
The theory of emotional contagion has been an interest of many writers both in the field of
psychologyand science. The root is not clear whether who... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Emotional contagion is the major factor for the number of protesters that joined in. Emotional
contagion works like pass along readership in which the rumors or ideology get passed down
from one human being to their social circle, with every individuals act as a medium of the
ideology; once the story got told the content becomes more saucy(dramatic) and it could attracts
more followers. When there are many people sharing the same ideology the group becomes very
large and the hatred for the other side gets more intense. The group leader or the person who
started the rumors then gain hegemony over the people and they can now easily persuade people
to join the uprising. Emotional contagion could be implied to persuade a large group of people or
invoke a protest. Democracy is a topic that every person in the nation give an importance to.
Leaders or politicians will want to have more power and many of them were successful in doing so
by using the emotional contagion and let the people literally fought for them while only think of

Gothic Elements In The Raven
There are three aspects within these emotional stanzas of The Raven that make it Gothic. Each one
in fact prompting the next. Firstly, death, death is the gothic backbone to this poem because
without it the other gothic elements would have nothing to originate from. Throughout the entirety
of the poem death is what haunts the narrator. The death of his beloved Lenore, how fiercely he
did adore, the price of her death his mindcould not afford, hence he was reminded by the Raventhat
she was Nevermore . Respite Respite and nepenthe from thy memories of Lenore! Quaff oh quaff
this kind nepenthe and forget this lost Lenore! Quoth the Raven Nevermore . , in this quote the
narrator clearly states the presence of death which is a definitive gothic element. As he converses
with the Raven there are certain ideas that become evidently true, firstly that the death in this poem
makes it gothic. Also as the Raven likes to remind us ever so frequently, not only is Eleanor
nevermore but the sanity of the narrator is aswell, is nevermore. The death of his beloved Eleanor
drove him to madness.
Insanity being the next Gothic element present within the poem, is what caused him to go into such
paranoia , sorrow and distraught. He became unable to sit in the dark without imagining sounds
that are not there or perceiving the Raven as as animal who has the ability to speak and taunt him
in doing so. It s said that the definition of sanity is the act of repetition with expectations of

Winds That Influence Ocean Currents
Winds, water density, and tides all drive ocean currents. Coastal and sea floor features influence
their location, direction, and speed. Earth s rotation results in the Coriolis Effect which also
influences ocean currents and any moving mass as long as it moves, so water in a gyre might be
expected to curve to the center of The North Atlantic and stop. Winds and ocean waters get
deflected from a straight line path as they travel across the rotating Earth. This phenomenon causes
ocean currents in the Northern Hemisphere to veer to the right and in the Southern Hemisphere to
the left. The deep water currents or thermohaline circulation of water is also called the Global
Conveyor Belt. It takes almost 1000 years for it to complete one cycle around

Reducing the Immunological Reactivity of Food Allergens by Enzymatic Hydrolysis/ Impact of
Enzymatic Hydrolysis on the Allergenic Potential of Foods Introduction (Can contribute depending
on the requirement)
Food allergy represents an abnormal, immune mediated hypersensitivity to certain foods resulting
in the onset of instant or delayed adverse health effects in sensitized individuals. In developed
countries, around 5% and 3 8% of young children and adults respectively have food allergy (Vanga
et al., 2015;..). In addition, recent reports from developed and developing countries seems to
indicate that the prevalence of food allergy is on an alarming the rise (). More than 170 foods
have been identified to have the capacity to elicit immune mediated reactions. However, only a
subset of these foods are known to be responsible for most of the reported cases of allergic
reactions (). Observation of the main allergenic foods from different parts of the world showed
that one food may be a significant contributor to allergic reaction in one region while its
contribution to the prevalence of food allergy may be minimal in another region. Nevertheless,
major allergenic foods can be categorized as seafood, peanut and tree nuts, cereals and
pseudocereals, dairy, egg, legumes, fruits and some oil seeds.
The consumption of foods mentioned above by a sensitive patients can result in symptoms that may
range from mild nausea, vomiting and itchy skin to severe

Ivan Denisovich Shukhov By Alexander Solzhenitsyn
Viktor E. Frankl, an Austrian neurologist and psychiatrist who also had survived the Holocaust,
writes When we are no longer able to change a situation we are challenged to change ourselves
(BrainyQuote). Frankl survived genocide against his own people and still chose to have a positive
outlook on it because he understands that if he did not, he would continually live an unhappy, upset
life. Like Frankl, Ivan Denisovich Shukhov, the main character in One Day In The Life of Ivan
Denisovichby Alexander Solzhenitsyn, contains a similar outlook to that of Frankl. The novel takes
place during Soviet Russiain a gulagin Siberia, or otherwise known as a labor work camp. The
whole book is about only one day that Shukhov lives; from 5 in the morning to 10 at night and all
that happens in between. In this labor camp, not only are the weather conditions very cold, making
it difficult to work in such circumstances, but also the workers are punished and harshly treated if
they do not obey the guards. When placed in this environment, it is easy to be discouraged and
miserable, but instead of facing the negatives of his situation, Shukhov remains affirmative in his
thoughts which are most important in order to survive not only physically, but also mentally. This
stoicism portrayed in the narrative can also be found in Epictetus s work, The Handbook. In this
text, Epictetus discusses how he believes people can live a happy life, despite the hard conditions
they are put through

As I Lay Dying And The Crucible Essay
In As I Lay Dying by William Faulkner and The Crucible by Arthur Miller, women are perceived
in ways that fit the time period they are written in. The Crucible deals with women being
accused of witchcraft and regarded as witches. In As I Lay Dying the few women in the story,
are not highly regarded or of high status. Both authors depict women in different ways, but with
similar attitude towards women. Even though The Crucible and As I Lay Dying were works
from different time periods, the portrayal of women in both works have similarities. Although
women are regarded as low importance in As I Lay Dying, women play a key role in in The
Crucible. There is a contrast between how women are regarded in the two works. In his novel

We have all manner of licentious people in the village! (Miller 41). The possibility of witches
being present in the village, especially in his own home brings immense trouble. In Faulkner s
novel, Addie s dying wish is to be buried in Jefferson, requiring her family to go on a troublesome
journey. This puts a burden on her family, requiring them to put their lives on hold and complete
her wish. With this continuing idea, Anse finds it necessary to try to fulfill his dying wife s
wish, I done my best I says. I tried to do as she would wish it... (Faulkner 106). Throughout both
works, everyone s lives are centered around the female characters. Faulkner and Miller both use
symbols and dialogue to reveal how they personally perceive women and how they portray
women through their works. In As I Lay Dying William Faulkner uses a coffin to symbolize that
Addie is dying, this shows that she is of little regard or usefulness to the household. Faulkner s
female characters have much fewer entries than the male characters, this results with a more
dominant male force where we see their views of the women. Faulkner himself appears to be
uncomfortable with women, and the idea of women playing a major role. Faulkner s discomfort
with women and disdain for weak men evolved under the lens of gender criticism into his
examination of the roles our culture asks us to play because of our biological sex. (Towner 100).

The Grand Nursing Theory Chosen By The Future Apn Is Roy...
The grand nursing theory chosen by the future APN is Roy s Model of Adaptation. In 1970,
Sister Callista Roy identified the need for conceptual frameworks to be developed in order to
have a foundation from which to build nursing knowledge. She developed the Model of
Adaptation based on her theory that all patients must adapt to his/her given situations; we as
nurses must guide and encourage positive adaptation for our patients (Roy, 1970). Roy s grand
theory addressed all four of Fawcett s concepts identified in her meta paradigm of nursing,
adding an additional concept, adaptation. Roy referred to the concept of person as man,
identifying man as a biopsychosocial being who received a nurse s services. Roy identified the
environment as any and all focal, contextual, and residual stimuli (1970). She addressed the
concept of health as an aspect of a man s life, lying somewhere along the health sickness
continuum (Roy, 1971). In regards to the concept of nursing, Roy identified nursing as a duty that
helps and encourages man s response to environmental stimuli (1970). The additional concept,
adaptation, was identified by Roy as man s encounter and reply to any given stimuli. This reply
can be positive or negative (Roy, 1970). In addressing all the concepts identified by Fawcett as
nursing s meta paradigm, Roy strengthened her grand theory s foundation thus adding strength to
the foundation of nursing. In using Roy s framework as a model with which to view the chosen

Why Do Best Choices In The Giver Essay
Those who know more about concepts in life, will make better choices. If someone has
knowledge about something, they most likely will make wiser decisions about it. The more
intelligence someone has, the more good and bad they will see in the world. People who gain
wisdom, may see the best things in life, causing them to make the best choices as well. In The
Giver, by Lois Lowry, those who have more wisdomwill see both negative and positive aspects in
life and will make wiser decisions for themselves and others.
When someone gains wisdom, the choices they make can have an affect on what lies ahead. That
someone is known as The Giver, from the book, The Giver, by Lois Lowry. When The Giver was
the Receiver of Memory, he gained great wisdom from experiencing important events in the past,
causing his knowledge to expand immensely. The choices that The Giver made for the community

Jonas, the protagonist, asked The Giver why they have to contain all the memories of past

When the people who run the community, The Committee of Elders, need advice, they ask The

have to hold these memories? It gives us wisdom, The Giver replied, Without wisdom I could
not fulfill my function of advising the Committee of Elders when they call upon me. (Lowry,
pg. 140) People who achieve wisdom are looked up to in the world. Normal individuals
sometimes depend on that person when they need help on something. It is usually when the
person with wisdom assists the other with making a certain decision. They can often see if the
outcome is going to be good or bad. This is one more example of how those who have wisdom are
looked up to, and relied upon to settle on the best

Adjacency Paper
Humans have a fundamental need to belong and have social relationships, and therefore form
groups to fulfill these basic human needs (Baumeister

Leary, 1995). The tendency to
gravitate to similar individuals when building social ties is a well known feature of human
behaviour, and is referred to as homophily (McPherson et al., 2001). It is possible that the tendency
for homophily within populations, particularly the perception of physical similarity, influences
seating preference more frequently than expected by chance in day to day social interactions
(Mackinnon, Jordan, Wilson, 2011). This increases the chances of interacting with similar others
and decreases the chances of interacting with dissimilar others simply based on proximity.... Show

other men, or alone entirely, which will lead to a positive index of adjacency. The index of
adjacency cannot, however, determine whether the effect is driven primarily by men or women,
only that they tend to avoid sitting beside each other. Thus, if my hypotheses are supported, the
index of adjacency scores will be less than zero, overall. A two tailed t tests, comparing the mean

My Motorcycle Wreck
All my life I have been around motorcycles. My father used to let me ride on the back with him
when I was a young child. I remember the feeling that I would get when he would accelerate. As
soon as I could touch the ground, I owned a dirt bike. I used to love going fast and wheeling
down the road for the neighborhood girls to see. We used to spend hours working on bikes
together. That is when I started to become obsessed with motorcycles.
January 31st, 2016 is the day that I got my first motorcycle. It was the day my fiancГ© and I were
moving to Jacksonville, Florida. We drove for about twenty minutes, until I got a call from my
cousin. He said, Cody I will trade my motorcycle for your car. So, we met in the Walmart parking
lot in Hot Springs Village, Arkansas. When he pulled up with the motorcycle, I was excited.
Then, I took a joy ride around the parking lot. I could not believe I finally could have my own
motorcycle. I traded my car with a bad transmission for the bike. We were barely able to pick the
back of the bike up to get it in the U Haul truck. When we got here the movers had beat us here,
and were waiting impatiently. So, when we opened the back of the truck and they saw my heavy
motorcycle they were thrilled.
Five months later, I have been living here for a little while now and driving my motorcycle
everywhere has become normal for me. One night, I was on my way to work at the nursing home. I

Assignment 2: Chapter 2 Types of Crime, Chapter 3 Causes of Crime
Data Collection for the UCR, NIBRS, and NCVS
The Uniform Crime Reports collects reported crime data from the states law enforcement agencies
on Part I offenses: murder and nonnegligent manslaughter, forcible rape, robbery, aggravated
assault, burglary, larceny, motor vehicle theft, arson, and local law enforcement agencies are also
required to provide additional details about a crime when it appears to be motivated by hate. Law
enforcement agencies are required to report only the most serious offense in a crime that involves
multiple offenses.
The National Incident Based Reporting System was begun as a collaboration between the
Department of Justice Bureau of Crime Statistics and the FBI as an enhancement to the Uniform
Crime Reports Crime Index. It collects data from local law enforcement agencies nationwide on
both incidents and arrests on 46 specific crimes in 22 offense categories.
The National Crime Victimization Survey collects data through victim surveys. The collected data
differs from the data collected by the UCR and NIBRS, as it includes both reported and unreported
crimes, counts each offense separately in crimes with multiple offenses, and includes details about
the crime, victim, and the victimizations as a result of the crime. The data collected differs from
the data collected by the UCR in that it does not collect data on homicides, kidnappings, victimless
crimes, commercial crimes, and

How Did Friedrich And Finer Protect Against The Bureaucracy
Taking place in 1940, the Friedrich Finer debate featured the themes of how much discretion to give
to bureaucrats, what accountability measures should be in place against bureaucratic incompetence,
and if the other branches of government are capable of protecting against the bureaucracy. In
debating these, Friedrich and Finer have shaped the conversation around the bureaucracyin the
many decades since. When it comes to bureaucratic discretion, Friedrich believed that bureaucrats
needed to almost complete discretion about their work. If bureaucrats are experts at their work, then
they should be allowed to use their expertise to maximize their work outputs. Yet, as Finer pointed
out, bureaucrats may not always want to maximize their work... Show more content on

This culture of professionalism will prevent bureaucrats from becoming lazy or malicious in their
intents; the other bureaucrats won t allow such behavior to be tolerated. This culture will act as in
inner check against any potential wrongdoing by the bureaucracy. Thus, checks by the other
government branches is completely unnecessary. When combined with the other branches inability
to be experts in all of the bureaucracy s activities, it is also only risks the other branches decreasing
the efficiency of the bureaucracy. On the other hand, Finer argued that those checks by the other
branches is what prevented the bureaucrats from giving into their poor human nature. Additionally,
these checks act to give some democratic control over an otherwise completely undemocratic
branch of government. In a democracy, that is completely unacceptable; the judicial branch s final
say in how laws are interpreted, congress ability to appropriate agencies budgets and approve
nominees, and the president s ability to nominate those nominees is necessary for the bureaucracy
to maintain legitimacy with the American public. Whatever lack of expertise the other branches
may have about the bureaucracy s work is well worth this legitimacy. With that said, Finer s
argument about the bureaucracy, and what to do about, is the more accurate

How Far Can It Be Argued That Popular Culture Is...
The Marxist concept of ideology is used to express the way in which the dominant group in a
society controls the norms and values of that society at the level of ideas. As they own and direct
the production of popular cultural products the dominant group are able to present their ideas as
both normal and natural and `so mystify the `real conditions of existence (Hall.1992.p348). In this
way the group holding power exercises maximum control with the minimum of conflict. The
general population accepts the status quo as inevitable, and revolution is avoided. While Marxists
view this as a matter of Capitalist control, Feminists see ideological domination as the means by
which women are encouraged to accept a subordinate role in patriarchal... Show more content on

Feminist theory shares much common ground with Marxism and many of the ideas of European
Marxists have been appropriated and used by feminists. It has been suggested that this is
particularly true of the ideas of Althusser and Gramsci (Gramman and Marshment in
Strinati.1995.p180). Both of these theorists place emphasis on the idea of ideology as a means of
control. Althusser suggests that ideology is not merely inherent in popular cultural practices but
becomes `material practice (Storey.1998.p97) and a part of daily existence. For Althusser
ideology is found in the customs, traditions and patterns of behaviour of everyday life in such a
way that social actors are not aware of their participation in the acceptance and propagation of the
ideas of the most powerful group in society. Using Althusser s theories feminists may suggest that a
tradition such as the celebration of Mother s Day can be seen as valourizing that particular role for
women, while failing to recognize any other. This may lead women to see the maternal role as the
most important one for them in society, thus serving the interests of the dominant male group by
encouraging women not only to become mothers, but also to assume the position of primary child
carers. Such an interpretation suggests that many traditions and customs are to a large extent
ideological.

Music Is An Important Part Of Life
Music will always be an important part of life. Music can help soothe people, think better, get
people dancing and other things. Music will continue to get better and to change over time. I m
glad we ve been given the chance to go out and listen to live music outside of our normal range.
For my concert report, I went to see a band called Unity The Band. They were pretty good. The
genre they played was reggae. My experience started with my reactions, the style of it, and the
things I liked most about the music. To begin, my experience first begins with my reactions to the
music. The music is reggae, which I never took much time to listen to or consider as anything more

people make music but don t have real instruments playing them. To experience music like this
was a privilege. Lastly, my experience was based on the things I liked or enjoyed about the
band. There were multiple things that I liked about it starting with the solos. I think the best
solo was from the electric bass player. I had never seen a bass player play a solo, but it was really
good. It was a fast solo so he had to be a great guitarist to play it that fast. Then, of course, the lead
guitar solos, piano, drummer, and my friend s solos. This type of music is something you can
have fun with. The musicians can have fun, but the audience can also have fun and groove out
listening to it. Another thing I liked was how friendly the band is. After the band performed, they
were happy to officially meet my friend and everyone else at our table. Although I didn t
remember each of their names, I did search the band online. One of the lead guitarist and vocalist is

Electrophilic Aromatic Substitution Reaction Lab Report
In this experiment, an electrophilic aromatic substitution reaction was performed through the
addition of a nitro group to bromobenzene. The experiment uses the nitronium ion, NO2+, which
acts as an electrophile to replace a hydrogen atom in the aromatic system of bromobenzene. The
bromine substituent on the benzeneintroduces the possibility of isomers from the reaction with the
nitronium ion: NO2+ can be positioned in the ortho position (making 1 bromo 2 nitrobenzene), the
meta position (making 1 bromo 3 nitrobenzene), or the para position (making 1 bromo 4
nitrobenzene). There is also a chance that poly nitration can occur to produce dinitrobenzene. Since
nitro groups are deactivators, it requires high temperatures to add another nitro group to the
benzene ring. To prevent this poly substitution from occurring, it is important to control the rate of
the reaction by monitoring the temperature during the reaction (the temperature should not exceed
60oC). By controlling the temperature, there is insufficient... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Nitric acid, HNO3, does not act as a strong enough electrophile on its own. It needs the assistance
of sulfuric acid, H2SO4. Sulfuric acid, a strong acid, protonates the oxygen that is part of the
hydroxy group on nitric acid to make it a good leaving group. The leaving group (water) departs
from the molecule, leaving the nitronium ion. The nitronium ion is a stronger electrophile than
nitric acid and can nitrate bromobenzene. Bromobenzene was added to the mixture of sulfuric acid
and nitric acid dropwise through a water cooled condenser to prevent the reaction mixture from
overheating. Overheating of the reaction mixture could lead to poly substitution. To prevent
overheating, the temperature of the mixture was maintained to be under 55oC. The acid mixture
was swirled to make sure that bromobenzene was being dissolved and to prevent the possibility of

  • 2. The Importance Of Scientific Observation In The Classroom Working scientifically is extremely important within the classroom, for it is an educational process which allows children to advance upon their scientific enquiries and knowledge through the means of investigation, bettering their understanding of the world around (IAP, 2012 cited in Harlen and Qualter, 2014:100). The nature of working scientifically incorporates the children s learningof systems, methods and contexts within the scientific world, allowing them to develop an understanding of the scientific ideas and processes whilst using skills employed by scientists (IAP, 2012 cited in Harlen and Qualter, 2014:100). These scientific enquiry skills developed and used through scientific working are especially significant within the classroom because they are also applicable to colloquial life, for example, the enquiry skills of: observationand questioning. Observation is a definitive, important enquiry skill and a cornerstone of the enquiry (Anderson, Martin, Faszewski, 2006) which a child will utilise whilst working scientifically. By definition, observation is an enquiry skill which serves as a scientific discipline used for the constructing and rationalising of explanations and theories; the skill is most effective when the controlling of variables has been made difficult to efficiently measure the outcomes of an investigation, meaning observation is the most beneficial way to evaluate results (Smith Reiser, 2005). Moreover, within the classroom, observation has ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. How Does Machiavelli Define Fortuna According to Machiavelli, there are two ways in which one can come to power: by virtГє or by fortuna. Machiavelli avoids explicitly defining fortuna in The Prince, most likely because the concept does not have one clear meaning. In fact, Machiavelli signifies that fortuna is a contradiction that works both in favor of and against political action but is necessary either way. He depicts fortuna as the luck that contributes to many leaders rise to power, the good fortune that attributes to a leader ruling for a long time, and the devastating fate that leads to the downfall of leaders, despite their virtГє. Machiavelli depicts fortuna as the antithesis of virtГє. Therefore, one must define virtГє before defining fortuna. VirtГє does not correspond ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He also argues that fortuna has the power to end political action. Once again, Machiavelli uses Borgia as an example. Borgia made no mistakes while in power and he maintained virtГєoso throughout his rule. However, he ultimately fell from power. Machiavelli writes that his failure was due to extraordinary and exceptional hostility on the part of fortune (22). Therefore, fortuna can be thought of as fate. In the initial letter to Francesco Vettori that precedes The Prince, Machiavelli states that fortune wants to control everything, she evidently wants to be left a free hand (1). Thus, fortuna can be the enemy of political action. She is the ultimate determining outcome for whether or not a prince will be able to maintain his ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 8. Solar Energy Is The Best Type Of Energy When you close your eyes and think of solar energy, what do you see? Your response is most likely something positive such as an innovative, efficient, and renewable step forward into the future. Solar is also thought of to be the best type of energy because the sun will never go away. Well, solar energy will have to battle it out with natural gas and oil in the near future. As the price of oil and natural gas continues to drop, solar energylooks less desirable as other sources become more affordable in the short term (Sanburn 38). Josh Sanburn, author for Time Magazine, does have a relevant point while discussing solar energy s competitors. The handful of solar energy s positives makes it easy for the green thumbed consumers of today to overlook the many negatives. The negatives are very important though when on the topic of something that could possibly determine the future of the whole world s energy productivity. The number one issue with the continuation of solar energy is the price. The main solar energy companies try to sell their panels by repetitively saying that the panels will save money in the long run. Yet solar energy was the most costly energy source for kW/hr in 2015. The rooftop solar craze is wasting billions of dollars a year that could be spent on greener initiatives. It also is hindering the growth of much more cost effective renewable sources of power. It was a scary and tough decision for me to attend MACU but I wouldn t want it any other way. Critical thought and popular culture was a required course to take and to be honest, I thought it was going to be a super boring class. But, it taught me a lot about myself and made me examine my calling in life a little deeperthan before. In turn, I thoroughly enjoyed this course. I have been able to really figure out in depth what my calling is and what the next step in life might hold for me. During one of our discussions, we discussed homosexuality and how we should treat those who live that lifestyle. I came to the conclusion that although I strongly disagree with that way of living, I do not think that it is our job or our position to try and make them live the way we do. That was something that I went back and forth with ever since I moved to Mississippi. I moved at the end of my junior year, and the only person that talked to me was Colten Nugent, and Colten was gay. We became super close and he knew my view on his decisions but not once did I feel like it was my place to tell him to stop. He believed in the Lord and I think that things like addiction and homosexuality are things that the Lord has to work through with the person, not people. I discovered through this class that this is a social issue that I am passionate about. Although, I do still believe that we should set a good example of what being a Christian should be. This was a topic that was very apparent throughout the book by Kevin Roose, The Unlikely Disciple. I think my biggest pet peeve when it comes to religion is when people call themselves Christians but do everything in their power to act otherwise. • 10. Essay On The Ojibwa The religions of the Ojibwa are very comparable to the Kanina, as far as their belief in the supernatural. To them, even objects have a purpose. Spirits might visit them in human form or as objects like rocks or trees. Many were converted into Christians by missionaries and mixed their native and Christian beliefs. Just as the Kanina, this culture also had Shamans with specialty powers. They even had a tent, called a shaking tent, which they would use in order to talk to spirits, request help with problems, or hold ceremonies called Midewiwin. This ceremony hosts many purposes such as myths about origin and migration, healing, initiating new Ojibwa members, naming children, and many more. An additional tradition of the Kanina, that is familiar to us, is the round dance. Or, as we call it, the rain dance. It s identified as the rain dance to us, because it s said to summon the rain. To the Kanina, however, it was used to gain prosperity, rain, obviously, as well as function as a social gathering. Gabriel Garcia Marquez s Hundred Years of Solitude Essay Gabriel Garcia Marquez wrote One Hundred Years of Solitude originally in Spanish in 1967 but it has been translated into many different languages ever since becoming a literary must for some. One Hundred Years of Solitude has much to offer with hidden meanings and many literary ideas that are expressed in a creative way. Marquez had a unique style of writing during his time. He wrote with the sense that magic was real, and everyone should know it and it was a common idea. Such ways are present in the story as people are held captive in jail cells, lost lovers feel empty inside, or Ursula going blind and being left alone in her own head. In addition the town of Macondo is itself a civilization of isolation. Its location is separated from any major or small gatherings of people for miles. Macondo becomes a world of its own; the only one in existence for the people for all they care to know. • 20. An Analysis Of Theodora And Attendants And Akhenaton,... The theme of the two art works, Theodora and Attendants, and Akhenaton, Nefertiti, and Three Daughters, is Political Authority. This is a theme presented countless times throughout art history, and is a theme that is still used in art today. It reflects the concerns and desires of the rulers of the time and is used as a form of propaganda by said rulers to change the minds of the people they are ruling. Art has power and the rulers use its power to control their people. The presentation of these pieces reveals that the rulers want their subjects to view them as powerful and divine. Both of these cultures are also heavily influenced by religion. Both Theodora and attendants and Akhenaton, Nefertiti, and Three Daughters are forms of political propaganda that use religion to try and influence their subjects. Akhenaton, Nefertiti, and Three Daughters, is from the Amarnaperiod in 18th dynasty ancient Egypt, which was around c. 1353 1335 BCE. This was a time where art in ancient Egypt was vastly different from anything that had come before it, mostly due to Akhenaton himself. The religion of the time was also very different, as it had become a monotheistic religion instead of a polytheistic one, where everyone now worships the life giving god Aton, represented here by the sun who is soaking them in life giving rays and the ankh placed on the sun representing Aton. Funds were raised to establish Early CrГЁches in the 1870 s to help working mothers however, it was unpopular in society because it supported mothers working outside the home thus the service failed due to its unacceptance. In 1889, the Kindergarten Association was created in Dunedin, it was an intervention to save children at risk. Educationalist Friedrich Froebel was the inspiration behind the establishment of the Kindergartens. The opening of this association slowly showed change in early childhood services, the idea of education for the young started drifting away from taming the wild and more towards social reform, education for the young and saving working class children. At this stage in the history of New Zealand early childhood education, all care and education services were still heavily depended on funding from civil society rather than the state. The Economic Order And Manufacture Quantity The economic order/manufacture quantity (EOQ/EMQ) model developed by Harris (1913) is the earliest reported scientific treatment of inventory systems, where the sum of inventory costs, ordering/setup and holding costs, is minimized. Its simple mathematics and ease of calculation is perhaps what contributed to its popularity with practitioners and academicians (e.g., Fulbright, 1979; Osteryoung et al., 1986). The EOQ/EMQ model continues to be celebrated by many researchers (Andriolo et al., 2014; Drake and Marley, 2014; Glock et al., 2014; Bushuev et al. 2015). The model s popularity overshadows few critical voices (e.g., Selen and Woods, 1987; Woolsey, 1990; Weiss, 1990). Many derivatives of the EOQ/EMQ appeared over the years, of which just in time (JIT) is one of them (e.g., Andriolo et al., 2014). In contrast to the classical EOQ/EMQ model, just in time (JIT) produces a product when needed and delivers it when wanted by customers. JIT considers inventory as a waste to be reduced by producing in smaller lots more frequently, so fewer items are in the pipeline (Bonney and Jaber, 2011). It also improves quality, productivity, responsiveness, machines availability, workforce flexibility, space and equipment utilization, flow, and relationship with suppliers (Cavinato, 1990; Jones, 1990; Mehra and Inman, 1992). With that in mind, it is easier to think of citizenship not just as something that is owned and held, like a piece of paper, but instead is a responsibility that holds positive consequences if a citizen upholds their end of the deal. Not only is it a responsibility, but it is a type of contract between the individual and the state. By making it a contract it holds those responsibilities and rewards that both sides obtain and uphold at an equal matter. Although some freedoms are often given up for citizenship, there is an understanding that the contract between the state and the citizen is not lessened. With the idea of a contract, it is interesting to explore what are the rights and responsibilities of both the individual and the state, and also how far does the state extend in the sense of citizenship as a contract, it is possible to have global citizenship. When discussing any sort of contract, an individual is generally more interested in how it benefits themselves. These benefits are known as rights. For these purposes, rights are something that are given to a citizen when they receive citizenship. In the United States, these include things such as the right to vote or the right to own a gun. Firstly, death, death is the gothic backbone to this poem because without it the other gothic elements would have nothing to originate from. Also as the Raven likes to remind us ever so frequently, not only is Eleanor nevermore but the sanity of the narrator is aswell, is nevermore. The death of his beloved Eleanor drove him to madness. Insanity being the next Gothic element present within the poem, is what caused him to go into such paranoia , sorrow and distraught. In 1970, Sister Callista Roy identified the need for conceptual frameworks to be developed in order to have a foundation from which to build nursing knowledge. She developed the Model of Adaptation based on her theory that all patients must adapt to his/her given situations; we as nurses must guide and encourage positive adaptation for our patients (Roy, 1970). Roy s grand theory addressed all four of Fawcett s concepts identified in her meta paradigm of nursing, adding an additional concept, adaptation. Roy referred to the concept of person as man, identifying man as a biopsychosocial being who received a nurse s services. Roy identified the environment as any and all focal, contextual, and residual stimuli (1970). She addressed the concept of health as an aspect of a man s life, lying somewhere along the health sickness continuum (Roy, 1971). In regards to the concept of nursing, Roy identified nursing as a duty that helps and encourages man s response to environmental stimuli (1970). The additional concept, adaptation, was identified by Roy as man s encounter and reply to any given stimuli. This reply can be positive or negative (Roy, 1970). Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Feminist theory shares much common ground with Marxism and many of the ideas of European Marxists have been appropriated and used by feminists. It has been suggested that this is particularly true of the ideas of Althusser and Gramsci (Gramman and Marshment in Strinati.1995.p180). Both of these theorists place emphasis on the idea of ideology as a means of control. Althusser suggests that ideology is not merely inherent in popular cultural practices but becomes `material practice (Storey.1998.p97) and a part of daily existence. For Althusser ideology is found in the customs, traditions and patterns of behaviour of everyday life in such a way that social actors are not aware of their participation in the acceptance and propagation of the ideas of the most powerful group in society. Using Althusser s theories feminists may suggest that a tradition such as the celebration of Mother s Day can be seen as valourizing that particular role for women, while failing to recognize any other. This may lead women to see the maternal role as the most important one for them in society, thus serving the interests of the dominant male group by encouraging women not only to become mothers, but also to assume the position of primary child carers. Such an interpretation suggests that many traditions and customs are to a large extent ideological. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 55. Music Is An Important Part Of Life Music will always be an important part of life. Music can help soothe people, think better, get people dancing and other things. Music will continue to get better and to change over time. I m glad we ve been given the chance to go out and listen to live music outside of our normal range. For my concert report, I went to see a band called Unity The Band. They were pretty good. The genre they played was reggae. My experience started with my reactions, the style of it, and the things I liked most about the music. To begin, my experience first begins with my reactions to the music. The music is reggae, which I never took much time to listen to or consider as anything more than just a type of music. My first reaction when I arrived and heard... He also played in some of their other songs, but I don t know all the names of the music they performed. This style of music really got to me because of the live instruments. Nowadays people make music but don t have real instruments playing them. To experience music like this was a privilege. Lastly, my experience was based on the things I liked or enjoyed about the band. There were multiple things that I liked about it starting with the solos. I think the best solo was from the electric bass player. I had never seen a bass player play a solo, but it was really good. It was a fast solo so he had to be a great guitarist to play it that fast. Then, of course, the lead guitar solos, piano, drummer, and my friend s solos. This type of music is something you can have fun with. The musicians can have fun, but the audience can also have fun and groove out listening to it. Another thing I liked was how friendly the band is. After the band performed, they were happy to officially meet my friend and everyone else at our table. Although I didn t remember each of their names, I did search the band online. One of the lead guitarist and vocalist is Kai Pita Katobalavu. The other lead guitarist and vocalist was Anthony Robert Bessen. On the electric bass guitar was Timothy Perkins. One the drum set was Kelvin ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 56. Electrophilic Aromatic Substitution Reaction Lab Report In this experiment, an electrophilic aromatic substitution reaction was performed through the addition of a nitro group to bromobenzene. The experiment uses the nitronium ion, NO2+, which acts as an electrophile to replace a hydrogen atom in the aromatic system of bromobenzene. The bromine substituent on the benzeneintroduces the possibility of isomers from the reaction with the nitronium ion: NO2+ can be positioned in the ortho position (making 1 bromo 2 nitrobenzene), the meta position (making 1 bromo 3 nitrobenzene), or the para position (making 1 bromo 4 nitrobenzene). There is also a chance that poly nitration can occur to produce dinitrobenzene. Since nitro groups are deactivators, it requires high temperatures to add another nitro group to the benzene ring. To prevent this poly substitution from occurring, it is important to control the rate of the reaction by monitoring the temperature during the reaction (the temperature should not exceed 60oC). By controlling the temperature, there is insufficient... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Nitric acid, HNO3, does not act as a strong enough electrophile on its own. It needs the assistance of sulfuric acid, H2SO4. Sulfuric acid, a strong acid, protonates the oxygen that is part of the hydroxy group on nitric acid to make it a good leaving group. The leaving group (water) departs from the molecule, leaving the nitronium ion. The nitronium ion is a stronger electrophile than nitric acid and can nitrate bromobenzene. Bromobenzene was added to the mixture of sulfuric acid and nitric acid dropwise through a water cooled condenser to prevent the reaction mixture from overheating. Overheating of the reaction mixture could lead to poly substitution. To prevent overheating, the temperature of the mixture was maintained to be under 55oC. The acid mixture was swirled to make sure that bromobenzene was being dissolved and to prevent the possibility of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
