Along The River During The Qingming Festival Analysis
When mentioning Along the River During the Qingming Festival, most people will immediately think
of the version by the Song dynasty artist Zhang Zeduan, which is undeniably the earliest and most
well known version. There are many copies and variations of this work, including a painting by the
Ming dynasty artist Qiu Ying, which is also called Along the River During the Qingming Festival.
Although the artist uses the same title, this painting has its own beauty and connotative meanings that
cannot be ignored and which people need to discover and appreciate. Zhang Zeduan s masterpiece
depicts the landscape of his hometown, Kaifeng and the life of its people during the Song dynasty.
Nearly 500 years later, Qiu Ying portrayed his hometown Suzhou in a similar way, but in his version,
the scenes are different to the original version. Compared to Zhang, Qiu Ying added more blue and
green landscape patterns, and the feeling of the artisan is not strong in this work. The most important
thing is that both artists show different visual perspectives of the culture and customs of the city.
According to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While Qiu s work depicts the prosperity of Suzhou in the middle era of the Ming dynasty, Zhang s
painting shows the daily life of people in Kaifeng during the Song dynasty. Qiu Ying s buildings are
more structured and grand, even the shops appear more spacious. The scenes in this painting represent
an important page in Chinese history by combining the history and reality of a genre painting. So
many landmark buildings in Suzhou are clearly recognizable which show the developed economy and
traditions of the Ming dynasty and the artist s own style. Qiu Ying uses the traditional blue and green
style in this painting, leading to a beautiful picture which is filled with bright green mountains and

Meeting Luisa At The Bank
Although we were not meeting Luisa at the bank until 11:00 o clock, we arrived in Marsciano early
the next morning to wander around town. From a nearly home owner s perspective, we looked at
everything anew. Marsciano was going to be our home town in Italy, where we would shop, attend
community events, the weekly market, dine in restaurants and make new friends. As we did with
Johannes, we parked the car near the community elevator and took the lift up to the center of town.
We nodded our heads to the locals and bid them Bouna giornata; a Good Day when our eyes met in
passing. We window shopped at the boutiques on the Corso Umberto, surprised by the high quality
merchandise for sale in such a humble village. Soon, we saw Luisa ... Show more content on

How could this possibly be real? Our lunch was even more delicious than the first time and our
conversation was also more spirited. We vowed to take Italian lessons as soon as we returned to
California. Vince was bound and determined to attend the Deed Signing ceremony in Perugia in May
which meant that he would sign on my behalf so that I could accumulate my vacation time off from
work for the actual Moving In and Setting Up House in the Fall. I asked Vince to paint each room
before and acquire a bed, a table and some chairs during his visit in May so that when I arrived in
September we had a place to sleep and the apartment was spic and span clean. It was already dark and
raining gently when we arrived at the front door of B B Garibaldi in the early evening. Vince inserted
the key into the front door lock, when much to his surprise, he felt the key snap in two as he turned it
to unlock the door, leaving the stem in the keyhole. Oh great! Now what do we do? Vince said as he
pulled the remaining part of the key out of the lock and looked at it bewildered in his hand. I don t
know I answered. David emphatically asked us not to ring the doorbell because his grandmother is
always sleeping. Let s try knocking on the door or calling his name. I believe that s his balcony. I m
not going to yell out his name in the street. Vince responded. I reminded him that the only people we

Richard Burbage
Edward Alleyn and Richard Burbage were both notable actors in Elizabethan England. These actors
have contributed to theatre in many ways, for both Elizabethan and English theatre. They have also
contributed to modern English Society in many ways. These actors have also performed in plays that
were scripted by Shakespeare himself. They have also performed and contributed to both the Globe
Theatre, and the Fortune Theatre. These actors also are notably rivals of one another in Elizabethan
theatre. These actors demonstrate their importance to theater and society through their construction of
theatres, their acting careers, and their contributions towards Elizabethan society in general.

He inspired others in Elizabethan Theatre, while also assisting in the construction of the well known
Globe Theatre. He also was a very good friend of Shakespeare, and therefore collaborated with him in
many of his plays. Richard Burbage also joined the Lord s Chamberlain s Men, which was a theatrical
company run by Shakespeare, and presented many fine plays in the timeframe. The Globe Theatre
may not have stood for over 200 years, but it inspired the construction of a brand new theatre in 1997
named Shakespeare s Globe. This particular theatre not only modeled after what the original Globe
Theatre looked like, but it also introduced and hosted many plays over the years. Richard Burbage
may not have done a whole lot for English Society, but he mainly contributed to the construction of
the original Globe Theatre. Edward Alleyn however did many notable things in Elizabethan theatre.
He assisted in the construction of the Fortune Theatre, which was constructed in a unique way that
was much different than most Elizabethan theatres back in the day. The theatre was constructed in a
rectangular fashion on the inside, which was very different and unusual for most Elizabethan theatres.
Edward Alleyn also contributed to the English society in one specific way, which was the construction
of the Dulwich College. This was significant as it provided an education and housing for the least

Analysis Of Hesiod s The Vase Essay
A) The excerpt from Hesiod s text illustrates different characters who serve a myriad of purposes.
There are 3 main characters in the text Zeus, Hephaestus and Hermes. Zeus orders the creation of the
first woman, Pandora, and commands Olympians to present Pandora with gifts. Hephaestus crafts
Pandora because of Zeus s orders. Hermes provided Pandora with a deceitful nature, (Hesiod) and
delivered her to Epimetheus. There are other characters with minor roles in the text. The most
important character is Zeus, because he was orchestrating the whole event. He assigned tasks to the
Olympians and all the other characters were just following his command.
B) The scene on the vase shows only a part of the woman present on the far right. Additionally, this
woman is wearing a crown. The person who is holding the hammer seems to be moving his arm
towards the woman. The person left of center is facing the man on the far left and it looks like they are
conversing. On the basis of Hesiod s text people depicted on this vase, from right to left, are Pandora,
Hephaestus, Hermes and Zeus. There are numerous attributes that allow the identification of these
characters. Pandora in Hesiod s text is being made using mud, which might answer why only a part of
the woman is shown on the vase. Furthermore, the woman depicted on the vase is wearing a crown
and Hesiod s text mentions crowned her (Pandora) head with spring flowers, (Hesiod) these two
things allow me to identify this woman as

Fast Cash Loans Vs Personal Loans
Four Things to Consider About Personal Loans Versus Other Fast Cash Loans
When people need fast cash, they often think about a payday loan, but personal loans can be approved
just a quickly from many lenders, and your bank account can be funded in a single day. But there are
many things to consider before applying for this type of loan. The following are four of them.
Your credit rating
Personal loans are usually unsecured, so a lender will want to look at your credit rating. Many lenders
will still lend money if your credit rating is not good, but there are limits to this. A recent bankruptcy,
for example, may make a loan difficult to obtain. Other than this, the better your credit rating is, the
better the interest rate will be, so if

Compare And Contrast Virginia And Massachusetts Bay Colonies
English colonization of the New World began in the late 16th century with several unsuccessful
attempts. However, this changed with the settlement of Jamestown, and later with the settlement of
Massachusetts Bay. Despite these settlements having similarities, they were fundamentally different in
most respects. From the areas where they settled, the reasoning behind each settlement, their
development, and the various problems and conflicts that arose in each. A uniqueness can be seen
between Virginia and Massachusetts Bay settlements beginning with the history of each.
The history of these two settlements begins in the early 17th century when King James I issued a
charter between two rival groups of merchants, the London Company (later renamed the Virginia
Company) whose interests were in colonizing Virginia, and the Plymouth Company who had interests
further north (Brinkley, 23). The charter gave the London Company exclusive rights to colonize the
south, and the Plymouth Company received the same rights for the north (Brinkley, 23 24). It is
through the efforts of these companies that the first permanent English colonies would be established
(Brinkley, 24).
Once the charter had been issued the London Company quickly began to set up an expedition for the
colonization of Virginia, and on December 6, 1606, 144 men aboard three ships: the Godspeed, the
Discovery, and the Susan Constant set sail for the New World (Brinkley, 26). In the spring of 1607, the

Maytag Strategic Analysis
I. Executive Summary
Maytag Corporation was founded in 1893 by Fred L Maytag and two other men. The company built
its first washing machine in 1907. From there the company quickly expanded into a national
corporation. With the sweeping globalization movement of the 1990 s, Maytag has attempted to
establish a presence as a global competitor in the appliance industry.
As the company has tried to establish itself in the developing global marketplace, it has had
difficulties. Not only were consumers taste and preferences changing in the domestic market, but the
company needed to develop products that would appeal to the new global markets. Maytag will need a
great deal of money to make these large changes.
The current strategy that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Technological forces also made a very large change in the mid 90s. With Microsoft s launch of the
first user friendly Windows program, home computer usage began to increase. Also Al Gore helped
the world wide web launch during this time frame. With access to the internet, companies were also
able to use electronic data interchange (EDI) to help make purchase orders, schedule delivers and
other functions that are available when companies share data. Maytag also at this time is using fuzzy
logic in appliances. More technology will continue to be required in appliances as time moves on.
Porter s five forces are used to determine the competitive intensity and attractiveness of a market.
These are close forces that affect a company s ability to make a profit and serve customers. If any of
these forces change, a company must reassess its marketplace. The five forces include: the threat of
substitute products, the threat of the entry of new competitors, the intensity of competitive rivalry, the
bargaining power of customers and the bargaining power of suppliers.
Porter s five forces can be used to analyze Maytag. First, the threat of substitute products is low. The
only substitute for a washing machine is a large sink and a great deal of manual labor. Many of the
appliances have substitutes, but because those substitutes are so old and outdated there is not a threat
from them.
Second, the threat of entry of

Why Is Hmong Culture Important
Many cultures have certain traditions that are very important to them. For example, the Hmong culture
has a tradition about marriage. When a Hmong man wants to get married and start a family, he has to
ask two specific men called Mekoob , to go with him to his women s house and formally ask the
parents for their daughter s hand in marriage. They later talk about the wedding plan and the price for
everything. The husband and his family have to pay for all the expenses. There is also a tradition
called Noj Pebcaug . This is where the Hmong celebrate the New Year and ask our fore fathers for
good luck in the upcoming New Year. The Hmong are not the only ones that have certain traditions
that are important. The Jewish culture also has a tradition ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Jewish culture has a tradition called a Bar and Bat mitzvah. This tradition is to signify that a boy
and a girl are old enough to be called a woman or a man. Also, this will give responsibility to the soon
to be man or woman. Having a Bar or Bat mitzvah shows that the boy or girl can be accounted for
their own actions. To take responsibility in what they do wrong and what they do right. This ceremony
usually start at the age of 13 for boys and the age of 12 for girls. Though, Bar and Bat mitzvahs are
celebrated young some choose to have the ceremony when they are adults, which has been growing in
popularity. Also, the Jewish wedding ceremony is an important tradition too. Before the wedding
ceremony, the groom agrees to be bound by the terms of the ketubah, or marriage contract. The
ketubah details the obligations of the groom to the bride, which are food, clothing and marital
relations. A traditional Jewish wedding ceremony takes place under wedding canopy, symbolizing the
new home being built by the couple when they become husband and wife. Some Jewish culture has a
custom to cover the face of the bride, followed by a prayer. The husband is then led under the wedding
canopy by the two fathers and the wife by the two mothers. After, the rings are the presented and then
the groom and bride puts them on for one another. Lastly, there is the breaking of the glass where he

Some of other most important component of the group we can find Piet Mondrian which was a

De Stijl architecture Gerrit Rietveld which was an architect. The De Stijl art movement had just one
goal: to make art that was as simple as possible. They wanted to purify art to precision and perfection.
Two important elements were composition and balance in their work, making the De Stijl art
movement influential in the next few decades of modern design and modern architecture such as we
can see in Le Corbusier or Mies Van De Rohe or in the International Style. The De Stijl movement
was theorized on the fundamental principles of the simple geometry (such as straight lines, squares,
and rectangles) with asymmetrical arrangements as well as the use of true primary colors in tandem
(such as blue, yellow, red, white and black). Also the association between positive and negative. The
goal of the movement in design was to make simple things such as furniture and buildings a piece of
art itself. It was a an abstract movement with the idea of the form following function and the emphasis
on the structural components. Van Doesburg described the style by saying, The new architecture is anti
cubic, i.e., it does not strive

high volume times in the emergency department. Implement a process to fill staffing needs in these
times of high volume. Also educating the staff on conscious sedation protocol and medication

Monitoring the use of policies and procedures to make sure that they are being followed and remain
safe for the patient.
Errors in the Care In the care of Mr. B the following errors occurred:
The patient was not placed on the ECG monitor
He was not placed on any supplemental oxygen
There was no staff in the room monitoring the patient while still under conscious sedation
The LPN resets the alarm on the oxygen monitor and leaves the room without reporting it to anyone.
Not having adequate staffing for the high acuity of patients in the Emergency Department The nurse
should have contacted the nursing supervisor to ask for a person certified to do conscious sedation to
come and monitor the patient. This alone would have prevented many of the other errors that occurred.
The patient would have been placed on the monitor and oxygen would have been delivered prior to

The Impact of New Media on Pr
The impact of new media on public relations Every once in a long while, the way that people receive
and distribute news is majorly impacted by times and technology. The 20th century brought TV, radio,
and the Internet. Just as these media channels defined their times, so the rise of new media will also
define the 21st century. In modern society, all public relation practitioners are confronted with a
startling series of new communications channels and struggle with the impact of new media. The new
media gives rise to a new style of marketing that is characterized by conversation and community.

Whereas new media can be combinations of several forms, such as it can contain words, audio, video,
or graphics together, to express one event. Hence, when expressing an issue, new media presents a
better way. The third difference is that traditional media only broadcasts a message. New Media brings
people into a conversation. More specifically, new media is an open communication, it permits all
people to respond and interact with material directly. New media also gives people real power to
create, express, even produce their own ideas. For example, a sightseer or a reader can leave their
comments on your blog. Nevertheless, traditional media is controlled by the content producer, and not
convenient for people to voice their own opinions and ideas. Traditional media revolves around the
information producer , and how or what it says. New media is more friendly, more humane, and more
people centered, than traditional media. The final difference is about manipulating information. It s
very hard to efficiently extract and process data which has a large amount of information through
using newspapers, magazines or other traditional media. There is a huge difference here, such as in
our daily life, we can get news on the Internet in the morning, which is the same news you can from

The Theatre Of The Lounge
Led by a group of actors into the theatre from the lounge, I saw a number of different theatrical
elements that were distinguished from other conventional theatre. The very first item that caught my
attention as I entered was a line of racks for coat hangers. Normally they would not be one of the first
objects an audience would notice in the house. The actors naturally guided the audience to hang their
coats on the hangers. As I went further into the space, I realized the audience seats did not face the
stage; the platform in which performance usually takes place on was veiled by black curtains, visually
creating a wall. This creation of the new wall yet did not induce me to raise a question on where the
actors would act; its answer was evidently shown. The house was stripped down to a bare, flat ground,
encircled by the audience chairs. I did not see any specially raised platform that highlighted any actor
s presence. Nor did I see any decorative set design, apart from two pillars and a bench in between,
which distinctly differentiated the acting region from the spectator region. I did see a blue tape on the
ground that physically defined the stage area. However, sitting in the front row, the tape mark was so
close that I could easily step on it. Meanwhile, instead of preparing themselves at the backstage for the
play to start, the actors walked around and interacted with the audience members through informal
conversation. They all wore their casual clothing; if I did not

Risk Management Plan For A Company
Risk Management
The process that helps project managers follow when they need to calculate, identify, and manage risk
in a company is defined as Risk Management. When a company faces risk, risk management would be
the ideal solution to use that to solve the known and unknown risks. Risk management plans should be
ready to help reduce and prevent those risks because most risks in a company are uncertain. When a
company is facing risks that are uncertain, these risks come up very fast and they could be potentially
harmful. They should be treated right away. Of course the work must be performed first as long as
they are not of sever threat. Perform the work as planned keeping in mind those uncertain risks.
Some risk management plans requires ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This can ensure that employees are focused on their jobs and not getting distracted. Another
prevention method could be moving dangerous equipment s to a different side of the factory where
special safety precautions are implemented. Performing necessary maintenance on factory equipment
can also reduce the likelihood of an accident. (Larcker and Miller, 2014). Having regular safety
meeting with employees can reduce factory accidents. Managers have to be involved to make sure
employees are safe at the workplace. These are some of the precautions we can take to prevent the
likelihood of a risk.
There are prevention methods available for companies to use, these are: risk management techniques
which include risk avoidance, loss control, risk retention, and risk transfer, risk mitigation plan, risk
analysis, mitigation plan implementation, risk assessment table, and risk matrix.
Areas of Risk Management
There are many areas to focus on when it comes to risk management, depending on your company s
infrastructure; risk management is going to be different. The areas of risk management will include
compliance risks, financial risks, operational risks, and strategic risks.
Compliance risks will involve industry standards and regulatory and statuary standards. Financial risks
will include loss of revenues, exchange rate losses, purchasing practices, performance and schedule,
and lawsuits for facility injuries.

Segmented Assimilation Theory
Alejandro Portes and Min Zhou introduced the concept of segmented assimilation, which stressed a

some because of poverty and racialization, and the selective retention of ethnicity for yet others.
Assessing present levels of assimilation among today s immigrant groups requires considering the
possibility that the process itself may be changing. To ascertain this, we must first understand three
major theories of immigrant and ethnic group integration. The theories are the classic and new
assimilation models, the racial/ethnic disadvantage model, and the segmented assimilation model. One
of the general, classic assimilation theory sees immigrant/ethnic

Although changes had been made it still kept to Paris traditional appearance and was installed within
the former Orsay railway station. Between 1900 through to 1939 it was known as the Gare d Orsay
and was seen as the head of the southwestern French railroad network. However, after 1939, the
station was to serve only the suburbs, as its platforms had become too short for the modern, longer

In 1975, the Direction des Musées de France had considered installing a new museum within the train

Maya Angelou s Poems Essay
Maya Angelou s Poems
Maya Angelou s poetry occupies a very special position in her development as a writer (Chow 1). As a
child, Angelou went through five years of complete silence after she was raped at the age of seven
years old, by a man named, Mr. Freeman. As a result of telling about her traumatic experience, her
uncle s literally kicked the man that raped her to death. Beings she spoke of her traumatic experience
and the result of the man dying, she then imagined that her voice had the potential to kill. Thanks to
her teacher, Bertha Flowers, at school Angelou started writing poetry as a means of expression of her
life events through her poetry (Chow 1). Poetry thus played an essential part in the recovery of her
voice, which in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She also conveys in this poem that hard times and painful past experiences aren t reasons to avoid
living life, but yet is a part of what makes one s life . She uses death as a metaphor for life s battles in
her recurring phrase I keep on dying , but adds the idea of starting over and having another chance to
overcome battles that are recurring in her life (12). The title of this particular poem, The Lesson is
very significant to the poem within itself. The lesson that is preached in this poem is about the
constant courage and determination in one s life to defeat and her refusal to be overwhelmed by the
challenges of life. Her hope as a determined woman will get her through her personal and physical
tribulations, and even though each challenge in life offers her up a small dose of death, every time, it
cannot keep her or anybody technically speaking down permanently. When there is a will, there is a
way and Angelou always made a way to get back on her feet and keep it moving.
Mayo Angelou explains the reality between struggles and the beauty of overcoming them in her poem
called Woman Work . This poem is about a mother, preferably, a single mother that has children that
she takes care of. The poem starts off by saying, I ve got children to tend / The clothes to mend / The
floor to mop / The food to shop / Then the chicken to fry / The baby to dry / I got company to feed /

Battle Of The Somme Essay
The Preliminary Bombardment Of The British Empire On The German Empire In The Battle of The
Somme
The Battle of the Somme, also known as The Somme Offensive, was a battle fought in the First World
War by the allied forces headed by the British Empire in support of France against the German Empire
on an approximate 30 kilometer front near the upper reaches of the Somme river in France. The
Somme Offensive is attributed as starting on July 1st 1916 with an infantry attack and concluding on
November 18th 1916 for a total of 141 days ending in an inconclusive stalemate leading to a war of
attrition between both empires. Before the infantry attack on July 1st the Allied forces conducted an

Haig settled late on a plan with a five day artillery barrage leading to an infantry attack on June 29th.
The artillery barrage was designed for the first two days to reduce the Germans wire defenses to create
freedom of maneuver for the infantry across the no man s land. The last three days of the barrage
would be used to reduce trenches, emplacements, strong points, and artillery pieces, as well as fire
smoke and gas canisters to confuse the German forces about their intentions. Even with over 1,500
artillery pieces at his disposal this would not be enough to make enough of an effect on German
defenses. Haig tasked his artillery to too many areas on the front wires and in depth along the 30
kilometer trench system. After the five day artillery bombardment a majority of wire was intact and
many trenches and emplacements were still usable and manned. The plan would have had better
results if Haig would have focused on the wire obstacles for the infantry attack and not try to remove
all the trenches, emplacements and strong points by artillery. By the end of the fifth day the Allied
forces were close to being out of artillery

Using the double dabble method does not require remembering several different rules such as what
signed to use and which number to add or subtract from, it is straightforward math.
13. What is overflow and how can it be detected? How does overflow in unsigned numbers differ from
overflow in signed numbers?
Overflow is when you have a carryover of a number, thus giving the wrong sign example causing two
numbers to be added together, giving the result a negative number. It can be detected by simply
knowing if the carry into signed bit equals the carry out signed bit, no overflow has occurred in
unsigned numbers. We know they are positive so overflow does not change this, it will always remain
positive, while in signed numbers. This overflow, unless programmed correctly, could change the
entire outcome of the intended result.

The Changing Nature of Aboriginal and Non-aboriginal...
The Changing Nature of Aboriginal and Non aboriginal Relations in Australia from 1946 2000
Since the arrival of Europeans the Aboriginal population has suffered in terms of status, wealth, health
and sense of identity. Although there have been steps towards reconciliation there is still a long way to
go until Indigenous Australians enjoy the same status as non indigenous Australians. A referendum
was made in 1967, it was a hallmark in Aboriginal history. It was the beginning of the righting of the
wrongs that had been committed against the Australian indigenous population since the arrival of
white settlers. The referendum was the first time that Aboriginal people were fully acknowledged as ...

The Menzies government in 1965 put forward a bill that would repeal section 127 of the constitution
but would leave section 51 unchanged. Menzies reasoned that The words are a protection against
discrimination by the Commonwealth parliament in respect of Aborigines (John Gardiner Garden
1997). Both Houses passed the proposed bill but it lapsed as no further action was taken.
A new government took office and in 1967 the new Prime Minister, Harold Holt, announced that his
government intended to reintroduce the 1965 bill but with new amendments. He intended to also
include section 51 as well as section 127. As leader of the opposition, Gough Whitlam supported the
bill, as it would allow the Federal government, for the first time, to assist our indigenous population.
Mr. Holt announced on March 14th 1967 that a referendum would be held after the proposed act
passed through both houses. Within the referendum another question would be asked, the people
would be asked if alterations should be made to numbers in the Senate and the House of
Representatives. The bill was passed and the referendum date was set for 27th of May 1967

Blues Music In Sterling Brown s Ma Rainey
In Sterling Brown s Ma Rainey, Brown describes the significance of blues music in rural black
culture. Using dialect and rhythm, Brown manages to show the way blues music reaches its intended
audience without breaking from the language said audience would use to describe this. In this way,
Brown creates a poem which does not simply describe its subject, but celebrates it fully, and
associates itself not with white literature describing black Americans but with what could be called
black American literature. Brown s poem is in exactly the style Langston Hughes advocates for in The
Negro Artist and the Racial Mountain; praising rather than neglecting black American culture, using
aspects which may be considered oddities in comparison to Nordic ... Show more content on

The blues singer in Ma Rainey has an almost mystical quality to her as she manages to soothe
everyone for miles aroun (Brown, Stanza I, line 4) with her songs. Hughes mentions the richness jazz
and blues add to lower class black culture, and how the middle and upper class black Americans tend
to turn away from blues as a signifier of the race they wish to leave behind. Brown celebrates blues as
a way of connecting people, and of giving them something to hold onto as they battle the hardships
associated with not being white in America. While those who wish to be white spurn blues music as
too black, Brown proves in his poem that blues is an essential way of bringing people together. He
paints a picture of its immense impact when he describes the listeners crying together as Ma Rainey
sings. This, in turn, serves as a call to other black artists to stop trying to break away from their race,
as it invokes a sense of belonging. All the people who come watch Ma Rainey sing belong to a
community of rural black Americans, and from this community they do face adversity, yet scenes like
the one described in Ma Rainey show that there is also a positive takeaway from being a part of it. In
the earlier mentioned segment from the third stanza, Brown s use of direct address sets up Ma Rainey
as an omniscient, almost godlike figure. The speaker, and presumably the reader included in the
speaker s us, can look to her for solace amidst their struggle. Brown implies that those who look to
their own culture may find meaning in it, which speaks to Hughes invocation for artists to Let the
blare of Negro jazz bands and the bellowing voice of Bessie Smith singing the Blues penetrate the
closed ears of the colored near intellectuals until they listen and perhaps understand,

What Occurred During The Renaissance
Giancarlo Velasquez
The Renaissance
The renaissance was a period of major advancements. From art to technology and from literature to
architecture. Artists, inventors, playwrights, architects all played huge rolls during the renaissance.
The reason why the renaissance happened was because towards the end of the Black Plague many
people were dying so they wanted to change their lifestyle. People wanted to change the way they do
things. There wasn t just one Black Plague there were a bundle of them. Since they were tired of many
people dying they chose to change how they do things. Art had a major impact during the renaissance.
The most famous artists that made a huge impact in art were Michelangelo, Rapheal, Donatello,
Leonardo, and Masaccio. You may remember the first four artist named from the hit tv show/movie
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (tmnt). But your probably thinking who the heck is Masaccio. Well he
is the guy that Michelangelo, Rapheal, Donatello, Leonardo all learned from. The funny thing is that
Masaccios nickname is the splinter which is also from the tv show. But never mind the whole tv show
and what not. Let s focus on how did Michelangelo, Rapheal, Donatello, Leonardo change art or

The Chemistry Of Organic Contaminants
Over the past ten years, the Institute of Gas Technology, now Gas Technology Institute (GTI), USA
and others have conducted research on the bioremediation of organic contaminants in soil. Most of
this work has been associated with remediation of former Manufactured Gas Plant (MGP) sites, soils
from industrial areas and oil production areas have also been studied. The results have shown that: (1)
organic contaminants are biodegraded by indigenous soil microorganisms to a concentration that no
longer decreases, or that decreases very slowly, with continued treatment; (2) reductions below this
concentration are limited by the availability of the contaminants to the microorganisms; and (3) the
residual contaminants that remain after biological ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Bacterial enzymes will catalyze the insertion of oxygen into the hydrocarbon so that the molecule can
subsequently be consumed by cellular metabolism. Because of this oxygen is one of the most
important requirements for the biodegradation of oil. Table 1 shows the list of some of the
microorganisms which are involved in the bioremediation of oil contamination.
Microbial Seeding
Oil degrading microorganisms seem to be ubiquitous, with their number typically limited by the
hydrocarbon supply (Namazi et al., 2008). Another approach is to add exogenous microorganisms
with known degradative activities, either natural isolates or engineered (Narasimhan et al., 1983).
Seeding involves the introduction of allochthonous microorganisms into the natural environment for
the purpose of increasing the rate or extent, or both of biodegradation of pollutants. The rationale for
this approach is that the autochthonous microorganisms may not be capable of degrading the wide
range of potential substrates present in complex mixtures such as petroleum (Raghavan, 1998).
Terrestrial ecosystems differ from aquatic ecosystems in that soils contain higher concentrations of
organic and inorganic matter and generally, large number of microorganisms and are more variable in
terms of physical and chemical conditions (Bossert et al., 1984). The presence of indigenous
microorganisms which are highly adapted to a particular environment would negatively influence the

Rhetorical Analysis Of The Ugly Tourist
Rhetorical Analysis of The Ugly Tourist Daily, hundreds of thousands of people are traveling, whether
it s by plane, car, bus, boat, or foot, people are traveling to new locations and being immersed in
different cultures. Many fail to realize how ignorant of a tourist they are. Kincaid explains that tourists
are morally ugly and use other, less fortunate people, for their own amusement. She tries to enlighten
those who are privileged to be more considerate when they are visiting new places. Published author
Jamaica Kincaid wrote The Ugly Tourist, originally written in her book, A Small Place, where she tries
to convince readers that tourists are, a piece of rubbish (207). Kincaid s attempt to convey to the
audience that tourists are ignorant and morally ugly is partially successful, due to her satisfactory
emotional appeal, yet inability to produce a less angry tone, along with minimal logical appeal. To
begin, Kincaid uses emotional appeal throughout the essay to further her argument. She begins by
painting the audience a picture of themselves in their everyday life. Walking with an everyday crowd,
they begin to realize how alone you feel in this crowd, how awful it is to go unnoticed, how awful it is
to go unloved (Kincaid 206). Kincaid starts off her piece by making her audience feel isolated and
alone, setting the tone for the rest of the piece. She makes the everyday audience, who can afford to
escape their everyday life, feel unappreciative of their situation. This furthers her argument by making
the audience feel poorly about things they may take for granted, that many natives from poorer
countries cannot afford. They may have the luxury to travel outside of their bubble, while natives do
not have the same luxury as them. In addition, Kincaid makes the reader feel embarrassed. Kincaid
restates, An ugly thing, that is what you are when you become a tourist, an ugly, empty thing, a stupid
thing, a piece of rubbish pausing here and there... behind their closed doors they laugh at your
strangeness (207). She gives the reader the idea that the natives are mocking tourists because they are
not familiar with their surroundings. Where people should feel the joy of exploring new places,

defending their use of icons against the views of individuals who felt that the icons were a form of
idolatry. These individuals also know as Iconoclasts have a staunch position against the use of icons.
Their position is based on interpretation of the Old Testament law stated in Exodus 20:4 You must not
make for yourself an idol of any kind or an image of anything in the heavens or on the earth or in the
sea . Is this truly contrary to the Old Testament law or is it simply preserving through time the
incarnation of Christ, the Gospels and the history of the Christian church? I will give you a brief
history, and then offer my personal opinion to the subject. Let s define what is an icon and give a brief
history of icons. An icon is sacred art, usually a fresco or mosaic of Jesus Christ, the Virgin Mary,
martyred Saints or scenes from the bible that are given special veneration. This type of sacred art first
appeared in the catacombs were the first Christians would gather to worship during periods of
persecution. The scenes depicted were of Christ s family, gospel stories or stories from the Hebrew
scriptures. As Christianity began to grow, and after the Edict of Milan the Emperor Constantine
decreed that Christians were no longer to be persecuted. In response to this new decree, by the fourth
century icons became a way of teaching the Gospel and a way to

The Ethics Of Business Ethics
Business ethics refers to the consideration of moral decisions and responsibilities in the process of
operating a business. Business ethics, practiced throughout the deepest layers of a company, become
the heart and soul of the company s culture and can mean the difference between success and failure.
Values drive behavior and therefore need to be consciously stated, but they also need to be affirmed by
actions. Ethical business environments are created with foundations of integrity, accountability and
commitment. Personal/Professional Application Integrity is defined as following your moral or ethical
convictions and doing the right thing in all circumstances, even if no one is watching you. Having
integrity means you are true to yourself and would do nothing that demeans or dishonors you. When
employees are asked what they want from leaders it is integrity. Qualities change across culture and
time, but what people say they want most in American society is integrity. When people are asked to
define integrity, the word they mention most frequently is honesty. The leader with integrity always
tells the truth as he or she believes it to be. Think about the best leader you have ever had; she or he
probably had integrity. First and foremost, people want a leader they can trust. Ask yourself whether
you have a reputation for integrity. (Manning 6) Integrity can be broken down into sub components:
Honesty honesty creates an open environment in the workplace and effective

The first stage carries around 203,400 gallons (770,000 liters) of kerosene fuel and 318,000 gallons

The Saturn V rockets used for the Apollo missions had three stages. Each stage would burn its engines
until it was out of fuel and would then separate from the rocket. The engines on the next stage would
fire, and the rocket would continue into space. The first stage had the most powerful engines, since it
had the challenging task of lifting the fully fueled rocket off the ground. The first stage lifted the
rocket to an altitude of about 68 kilometers or 42 miles. The second stage carried it from there almost
into orbit. The third stage placed the Apollo spacecraft into Earth orbit and pushed it toward the moon.
The first two stages fell into the ocean after separation. The third stage either stayed in space or hit the
moon. Now we will talk about how fast the Saturn V rocket can go. In order for the Saturn V rocket to

fastest speed obtained by a manned vehicle orbiting the moon to Earth in 1969 is 11.08km/s or 24,791

Persepolis Feminist Essay
Authors often use themes in their works to divulge some of their personal experiences, beliefs, or just
simply a topic they desire to write about. Written in the early 2000s, Marjane Satrapi s coming of age
story about herself as a young girl living in Iran during the Iran Revolution, otherwise known as
Persepolis, includes a vast majority of themes including warfare, religion, freedom versus
confinement, and finally, femininity. One of the major themes that really stuck out was feminism and
women oppression. Although Satrapi includes feminism in her novel, she does not consider herself a

Summary Of How Immigrants Changed America
America is filled with diverse people, citizens and immigrants. It s a country that has welcomed many
cultures, languages, and people from different parts of the world. Immigrants are the reasons why
America is changing into a colorful country and it wouldn t be known for it s importance known
today. Significant changes that occur when immigrants come to America are new cultures, changes in
the economy, and changes towards visas and green cards.
Immigrants changed America by bringing in new cultures. In Vincent J. Cannato s article, How
Americans Became Italian, it explains how America gained many things from the Italian culture, such
as food, music, and films. Vincent J. Cannato states, The Italian American experience reminds us that
immigration is a process of transformation for the individuals and for American society. That bilateral
cultural evolution will continue to mold who we are as a nation, (Cannato). Like Italians, many other
countries are shaping America with all the different cultures. Today, Americans combine varying
cultures into their lives.

Nature themes resound throughout Hurston s Their Eyes Were Watching God and Seraph on the

novels plot lines are the tree scenes , in which Janie kisses Johnny Taylor beneath the pear tree in
Their Eyes Were Watching God (p. 10 12) and Arvey loses her virginity to Jim beneath the mulberry

In Janie s revelation about her sexuality, she longs to be a pear tree any tree in bloom! This metaphor
for Janie s youth and vitality suggest she is in the spring of her life, with her glossy leaves and
bursting buds and struggling to make sense of the marriage that is buzzing through the air with bees.
Thus in this scene, Janie crosses the threshold from childhood to adulthood, a passage made complete
by her hasty marriage to Logan Killicks, a man far beyond the tumultuous spring of youth that Janie is
in the midst of in this passage.
The passages with the mulberry tree in Seraph on the Suwanee focus more on a sense of rebirth. When
Arvey first takes Jim to the mulberry tree, it is because she wants a cleansing of her sacred place from
her old feelings for Carl. The images of the new mulberries growing perpetuate this theme of rebirth in
this scene. The word green also repeats itself, implying a sense of youth. This is not so much
maturation for Arvey (as it was for Janie) as it is a rebirth, a changing of her ways as well as an
introduction into sexuality. The actual scene where Arvey loses her virginity is rife with violent
images; the tearing have cloth, the gritting of teeth, juxtaposed against images of passion. It is ironic
that this should occur in her green temple of peace, but at the same time, Arvey is essentially finally

from the Duke University PA program and comparing it to the Loma Linda program I feel that there is
great room for improvement and a higher standard to be achieved. I am bewildered at the minimal
clinical exposure, which was required of us during the didactic year given the close proximity of a
world renowned hospital just walking distance from the classrooms. I am still completely shocked that
not a single student that I know of rotated through the main Loma Linda hospital or

The Similarities of Writting Style in Walt Whitman’s “Song...
Throughout time there have been many writers and poets. And with these many writers and poets their
work has been different in what they write about. And their work has made an impact on society and
on others. And yet in this time some writers have influenced the work of others. Walt Whitman and
Allen Ginsberg who are separated by a time gap have a kind of connection. Both of these amazing
writers wrote pieces of work that are considered a catalyst for the Beat Generation. These two
courageous writers went against the norm and wrote about something different. Although they are
different they both explored new topics. Walt Whitman s Song of Myself and Allen Ginsberg s Howl
have similarities right from the first page. The first thing that they both have in common is the
structure of their work. Both Howl and Song of Myself have long lines and they keep like that. Having
these long lines makes the story flow. Doing this in these two works made it have some kind of steady
rhythm so it was easy to read. Also another similarity Whitman had on Ginsberg was at the beginning
of each sentence. In Howl the beginning would always start with who . In Song of Myself the first
word of the line is Nor. This would be happening quite often. Ginsberg and Whitman both wrote about
topics against what other writers would talk about. Whitman would write about sexuality/the human
body and it scared off some of his readers. For example in Song of Myself on page 28 29:

Cultural Audit
Nike s Cultural Audit Today a shoe is more than something to protect and keep one s feet warm, it is a
fashion statement, an athletic enhancer, rebellion, status, and the ins and outs of coolness. Shoes,
mainly athletic shoes have changed drastically throughout the years. From weight, size, look, and
comfort ability, Nike has been the leading footwear company to develop and lead such a growing
industry. Peter Hitchcock, the author of Oscillate Wildly, wrote,
The shoe is magical, within both the history of the commodity and the psychological compulsions of
modern man. The shoe is the emblem of fetishism that links the commodity to desire. And the most
magical shoe of all is the athletic shoe because it is simultaneously a ... Show more content on

By the end of 1980 Nike completed its IPO and became a publicly traded company. During the mid
1980s, Nike lost its position as the industry leader, mainly in part because the company had badly
miscalculated on the aerobics boom (About NIKE Inc.). In 1985 the debut of a new signature shoe for
an NBA rookie, Michael Jordan, helped rocket Nike s sales and publicity. In 1988 Nike created the tag
line Just do it. Nike regained its position as the industry leader in 1989, making them the first and only
company in the athletic footwear/apparel industry to ever accomplish this feat (About NIKE Inc.). In
1990 Nike declared Portland, Oregon as its headquarters. Portland became home to the first retail as
theatre experience called Niketown. 1994 brought the signing of several individual players from the
future World Cup winning Brazilian National Team. The following year Nike signed the entire team
and began to design the team s uniform. Along with signing the Brazilian team, Nike also signed the
men s and women s US soccer teams, as well as other teams around the world. In 1996 Nike Golf
signed an upcoming young golfer by the name of Eldrick Tiger Woods. At first competitors criticized
and laughed at Nike for signing such a young player, that all changed in 1997 when Tiger won the
Masters by a record of twelve strokes. Nike also began investing in cyclists in the 1990s. Lance
Armstrong was one of the cyclists who signed with Nike. After he was

Ban Tobacco Advertising Is The Right Move
In 2001, the Government of India proposed a bill that would place a ban on tobacco ads to discourage
the use of tobacco products among the teenagers. This decision gave rise to a huge debate about the
ethical responsibility of the government on the use of tobacco products. In this analytical essay, the
arguments of the proponents that are both in favor and opposed to the ban will be summarized, while
discussing the conflict of interest that exists among the government and the tobacco companies.
Lastly, final thoughts and opinions will be provided of why the Government of India s decision to ban
tobacco advertising was the right move. This will be done in light of the case study found at
icmrindia.org titled Ban on tobacco Ads by the Government of India .
Those in favor
Those in favor put forth the argument that smoking kills millions of people every year and that these
figures are on the rise. Furthermore, that animated figures such as that of Joe Camel cigarettes is
enticing young children to take up smoking is a huge concern. They also point out the examples of
other nations which have deemed it constitutional to place such bans on tobacco advertising. They
claim that studies have shown that in these countries the consumption of tobacco products among the
younger crowd has dropped. It is also claimed that the ban itself won t hurt the economy because in
reality the revenue the government receives from the tobacco industry does not offset the costs it
creates.

Educational Cost Essay
Educational Costs and Logistics For out of state students, which is where I would fall under, the
yearly tuition for UW is $34,791 and the overall cost for a year is $49,986. Although this is much
more expensive than the in state tuition cost, the overall out of state cost to attend UW is not as
expensive as out of state costs for other schools or private schools. The cost for housing and food,
which is the equivalent of room and board, is an estimated $11,691 for students who live on campus
and $14,625 for those who live off campus. It is much more beneficial to live on campus that off of
campus in terms of expenses because not only is housing significantly cheaper on campus than renting
an apartment off campus, but transportation ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The West Campus Apartments, 12 Month Apartments, and studios are very similar in the fact that they
all contain a private bathroom and a kitchen. The other options may have a private bathroom, but it is
not guaranteed. The prices for occupancy are the same within a housing area, except for apartments,
but differ when compared to other housing areas. The North Campus Residence Halls, West Campus
Residence Halls, and the West Campus Apartments all can be paid either quarterly or for the entire
year, but the 12 Month Apartments can only be paid monthly. Since there are so many housing options
for UW, I don t know where to start, but since the price difference between living in a single room and
a triple room is quite drastic, and I would rather not live in a triple occupancy dorm, I would probably
choose to live in a double occupancy or shared single. However, in the future, I would like to live in
an apartment or in a studio because having the usage of my own kitchen would be extremely
beneficial to me personally, since I enjoy cooking here and there and it would allow me to save some
money. The transportation options around campus at the University of Washington are walking,
biking, driving, public transit, shuttles, and carpooling. The most common transportation around
campus would probably be

Applying A Rolling Admissions Process
As mentioned earlier, when our prospect applies to the four selected colleges from Figure 6.4, they
will utilize the LSAC as mandated from each institution. That provides for straightforward
management of those applications with submission dates synchronizing with the University of Florida
the earliest one. That way, all institutions can be concurrently applied rather than piecemeal this
process. Anyway, it turns out that some of the law schools in question employ a rolling admissions
process where the institution can potentially notify applicants anytime inside a window of an
admissions decision. As a result, if all material checks for completeness and accuracy, doesn t it make
sense to submit all materials as early as possible? ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To begin with, applicants must send official college transcripts using the Registrar at specific points in
the process; initially as preliminary transcripts, followed by periodic updates and finally after
graduation. Likewise, registrants having professional appraisals directed from third party principals on
their behalf utilize the Letter of Recommendation (LOR) and Evaluation services ultimately bundling
them with other CAS documentation. Figure 6.5 below provides a list of many or most requirements
and optional items that might accompany our prospect s applications, including the transcript release
forms for the Registrar and evaluation forms for individuals writing assessments discussed above.
They will, of course, vary per each school s admissions instructions. Sometimes people spend so much
time developing elaborate strategies and plans that they overlook the obvious. An applicant should
anticipate positive events just as diligently as preparing for failure (via a Plan B). The significance of a
rolling admissions process has the potential for receiving notifications at different points in time.
Understanding the acceptance/denial protocols regarding the admissions process for each institution
should not be disregarded. Another aspect seeks to avoid waiting for a preference never materializing

Taylor, Taner Osman, Ph.D, and Trevor Thomas, Ph.D, from the University of California at Los

the traffic congestion problem in the San Francisco Bay Area. The Bay Area is the third most
congested area in the U.S. right after Washington D.C. and Los Angeles. Slow moving traffic not only
wastes time, but also wastes fuel that can amount to billions of dollars. Local residents are skeptical

Essay about changing self, context in song lyrics
Text title: Change You Or Change Me
Source/ Date:
Medium: Rap song
Composer: Fabolous
Purpose: The main purpose of the text is indeed to entertain the listener in any way possible whether it
be enjoying fab s witty punch lines or being able to relate to the issues present. Another purpose
suggested is to relate with the composer (Fabolous) and gain knowledge of the occurrences
experienced by the composer e/g racism or incidents in the area . Fabolous says I want to bring you in,
and let you see my world looking through my eyes.
Intended Audience: Many features in the text suggest that the intended audience are; Other African
Americans as he uses the term nigger which is generally used when talking to other African
Americans. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In verse 2 fab questions change and again suggests that there has been change. An outward change.
The environment and circumstances have changed but inside (soul), self is still the same. Changes are
taking place but he is not letting it have an affect on him. When fab says to remind me where I m from
I look at my own tooth I feel he is referring to his family roots and history which he is aware of.
Verse, the final verse sees a change in attitude. Fab becomes more aggressive towards the feeling of
changing self he says It s getting me sick, someone prescribe me some medicine ,fab wants to revert to
the past, he wants to reverse the change that is surrounding him.
The final chorus, full of coarse language suggests the message of take me for what I am as he states I
am still the same nigger man .
Techniques used to represent ideas: Language language is used to represent the idea of aggression as
fabulous uses profanities particularly towards the end of the text.
Rhetorical questions are used to question the listener further involving them e/g why would I change?
.
Similes are used to give the listener a greater understanding or image of a point e/g When I get green
like the incredible hulk? which represents jealousy and power.
The technique of a monologue is used. It tells us more about Fubolous. It makes fabulous seem more
like an authority figure with his opinion more prominent
Other features include medaphores, use of rhyme,

Minors And Social Media
Minors all over the world have accomplished great things using social media, but majority of minors
use it to be unproductive and mean. Sadly social media is full of negative comments that can
potentially affect a persons life. The increase in use of technology and social media has decreased
minors productivity and therefore increased obesity. Minors should not have access to social media,
because its taking over their lives and therefore bringing them bad consequences. Social media has no
way to confirm a persons age, name or true appearance. According to a study about 80% of Americans

Sites like Google, Ask, Yahoo and many others will answer any question. These sites often help
minors with their homework, some sites will even provide all the answers to the entire assignment.
The availability of sites like these minors slack on their work. Minors won t worry about their
homework until the last minute. Minors know the answers to their homework are on the internet,
therefore no effort or actual thinking is put to it. Social media does not only encourage slacking, but it
also brings no good to their health, they re not being productive at all. Social media has many
interesting things. Things raging from videos, games, movies and personalized accounts, there s
something for everyone. Many people are and others can get addicted to social media and its contents.
People can spend an entire day hooked on their screen without noticing. Social media is now a big
contribution and a reason for the increase of obesity, people prefer to stay home using social media
instead of socializing outside of it. Social media can be a great source of help and start of many new
inventions. On the other side when social media usage is abused there s bad results. Over usage of
social media can affect a persons sense of sight, the radiation of a phone can even cause cancer. Social
media just like drugs can get addicting and affect a persons life. When a person abuses of social media
many complications may come to their life. Problems like depression due to isolation and
disconnecting from the world when using social media to sickness due to lack of sleep for using it

The Invention Of An Innocent Device
An innocent device that started out just a decade ago as a simple entertainment gadget, the camera
phone has evolved into one of the most widely used item into the daily lives of all the people of the
world over. It is hard to imagine our daily activities that do not involve the use of the camera on the
back of the cellphone, a far cry from what its inventors had first envisioned it was going to do.
Together with social media, the outgrowth of common people reporting events of their daily lives has
become a major source of news and information with no sign of stopping.
Today it s hardly a secret that all news sources big or small depend on this camera wielding citizen as
a major source of information. Top news outlets rely on these citizens journalists with their armature
pictures and videos in their breaking news section for any events around the world. Like their saying
goes, A picture is worth a thousand words , today these first pictures and videos have become their
bread and butter and news agency compete against each other to be the first one to air it.
It is inevitable that as camera phone devices become cheaper and wide spread, local people at the
scene of any incident pulling out their phone and take pictures and videos for whatever the reason is
only going to increase. Thus the question of whether it is safe for people taking the pictures put them
at risk and possibly put others at danger that may result in loss of life is of a serious concern. Also,

Black Men And Public Spaces
Throughout life many people experience similar situations, although they are two different many
different kind of people. The kind of people depends on their personality. Brent Staples is an author
and writer for the New York Times. He gives two simple examples of two different people in his
excerpts Black Men and Public Spaces and Parallel Time showing their differences and parallelism.
Black Men in Public Spaces and Parallel Time show how two black men have been stereotyped. Brent
Staples on Black Men in public spaces recited that My first victim was a woman white, well dressed,
probably in her early twenties. I came upon her late one evening on a deserted street in Hyde Park, a
relatively affluent neighbourhood in an otherwise mean, impoverished section of Chicago. As I swung
onto the avenue behind her, there seemed to district, uninflammatory[aa1] between us. Not so. She
cast back a worried glance. To her, the youngish black man aboard six feet two inches with a beard
and billowing hair, both hands shoved into the pocket of bulky military jacket seemed menacingly
close. After a few more quick glimpses, she picked up her pace and was soon running in earnest.
Within second she disappeared into cross street (132). The author clarified that the woman misjudged
the black man, because he was black, and the way he looked like. The same happened with the main
character of Parallel Time , while he was walking home. The author mentioned that At night,

Tapon Tax Promoting Stigma And A Barrier To Human Rights
The Tampon Tax: Promoting Stigma A Barrier to Human Rights
Three British women recently made headlines by free bleeding outside the Parliament building in
London. The women wore white pants and no feminine care products making a statement on their
pants about the importance of feminine care products (Gruff, 2015). In the UK as in 40 U.S. states
there is a tax on tampons and other menstruation related products, including sanitary napkins and
cups, justified under the general sales tax. Of the 10 states that do not tax feminine care products, five
of those states have no sales tax. Meaning just five states have decided to abolish the sales tax on
feminine care products. The sales tax applies to feminine care products under the belief that such
products are luxury or non essential purchases. (Hillin, 2015). ... Show more content on

It is rooted in sexism and unethical double standards and is a barrier to basic human rights. The tax in
one of many examples of women specific needs being ignored by policymakers and instrumentally

For centuries women have been told to hide their periods as they are viewed as an unclean, disgusting,
and shameful burdens. The shame and stigma associated with women s bodies is only reinforced by
policy that declares menstruation and the products needed to have a healthy period as luxury or non
essential as anything other than a normal function of

  • 2. Along The River During The Qingming Festival Analysis When mentioning Along the River During the Qingming Festival, most people will immediately think of the version by the Song dynasty artist Zhang Zeduan, which is undeniably the earliest and most well known version. There are many copies and variations of this work, including a painting by the Ming dynasty artist Qiu Ying, which is also called Along the River During the Qingming Festival. Although the artist uses the same title, this painting has its own beauty and connotative meanings that cannot be ignored and which people need to discover and appreciate. Zhang Zeduan s masterpiece depicts the landscape of his hometown, Kaifeng and the life of its people during the Song dynasty. Nearly 500 years later, Qiu Ying portrayed his hometown Suzhou in a similar way, but in his version, the scenes are different to the original version. Compared to Zhang, Qiu Ying added more blue and green landscape patterns, and the feeling of the artisan is not strong in this work. The most important thing is that both artists show different visual perspectives of the culture and customs of the city. According to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... While Qiu s work depicts the prosperity of Suzhou in the middle era of the Ming dynasty, Zhang s painting shows the daily life of people in Kaifeng during the Song dynasty. Qiu Ying s buildings are more structured and grand, even the shops appear more spacious. The scenes in this painting represent an important page in Chinese history by combining the history and reality of a genre painting. So many landmark buildings in Suzhou are clearly recognizable which show the developed economy and traditions of the Ming dynasty and the artist s own style. Qiu Ying uses the traditional blue and green style in this painting, leading to a beautiful picture which is filled with bright green mountains and clear blue ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Meeting Luisa At The Bank Although we were not meeting Luisa at the bank until 11:00 o clock, we arrived in Marsciano early the next morning to wander around town. From a nearly home owner s perspective, we looked at everything anew. Marsciano was going to be our home town in Italy, where we would shop, attend community events, the weekly market, dine in restaurants and make new friends. As we did with Johannes, we parked the car near the community elevator and took the lift up to the center of town. We nodded our heads to the locals and bid them Bouna giornata; a Good Day when our eyes met in passing. We window shopped at the boutiques on the Corso Umberto, surprised by the high quality merchandise for sale in such a humble village. Soon, we saw Luisa ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... How could this possibly be real? Our lunch was even more delicious than the first time and our conversation was also more spirited. We vowed to take Italian lessons as soon as we returned to California. Vince was bound and determined to attend the Deed Signing ceremony in Perugia in May which meant that he would sign on my behalf so that I could accumulate my vacation time off from work for the actual Moving In and Setting Up House in the Fall. I asked Vince to paint each room before and acquire a bed, a table and some chairs during his visit in May so that when I arrived in September we had a place to sleep and the apartment was spic and span clean. It was already dark and raining gently when we arrived at the front door of B B Garibaldi in the early evening. Vince inserted the key into the front door lock, when much to his surprise, he felt the key snap in two as he turned it to unlock the door, leaving the stem in the keyhole. Oh great! Now what do we do? Vince said as he pulled the remaining part of the key out of the lock and looked at it bewildered in his hand. I don t know I answered. David emphatically asked us not to ring the doorbell because his grandmother is always sleeping. Let s try knocking on the door or calling his name. I believe that s his balcony. I m not going to yell out his name in the street. Vince responded. I reminded him that the only people we know were the Real Estate people. Let s see if any one is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Richard Burbage Edward Alleyn and Richard Burbage were both notable actors in Elizabethan England. These actors have contributed to theatre in many ways, for both Elizabethan and English theatre. They have also contributed to modern English Society in many ways. These actors have also performed in plays that were scripted by Shakespeare himself. They have also performed and contributed to both the Globe Theatre, and the Fortune Theatre. These actors also are notably rivals of one another in Elizabethan theatre. These actors demonstrate their importance to theater and society through their construction of theatres, their acting careers, and their contributions towards Elizabethan society in general. He inspired others in Elizabethan Theatre, while also assisting in the construction of the well known Globe Theatre. He also was a very good friend of Shakespeare, and therefore collaborated with him in many of his plays. Richard Burbage also joined the Lord s Chamberlain s Men, which was a theatrical company run by Shakespeare, and presented many fine plays in the timeframe. The Globe Theatre may not have stood for over 200 years, but it inspired the construction of a brand new theatre in 1997 named Shakespeare s Globe. This particular theatre not only modeled after what the original Globe Theatre looked like, but it also introduced and hosted many plays over the years. Richard Burbage may not have done a whole lot for English Society, but he mainly contributed to the construction of the original Globe Theatre. Edward Alleyn however did many notable things in Elizabethan theatre. He assisted in the construction of the Fortune Theatre, which was constructed in a unique way that was much different than most Elizabethan theatres back in the day. The theatre was constructed in a rectangular fashion on the inside, which was very different and unusual for most Elizabethan theatres. Edward Alleyn also contributed to the English society in one specific way, which was the construction of the Dulwich College. • 5. Analysis Of Hesiod s The Vase Essay A) The excerpt from Hesiod s text illustrates different characters who serve a myriad of purposes. There are 3 main characters in the text Zeus, Hephaestus and Hermes. Zeus orders the creation of the first woman, Pandora, and commands Olympians to present Pandora with gifts. Hephaestus crafts Pandora because of Zeus s orders. Hermes provided Pandora with a deceitful nature, (Hesiod) and delivered her to Epimetheus. There are other characters with minor roles in the text. The most important character is Zeus, because he was orchestrating the whole event. He assigned tasks to the Olympians and all the other characters were just following his command. B) The scene on the vase shows only a part of the woman present on the far right. Additionally, this woman is wearing a crown. The person who is holding the hammer seems to be moving his arm towards the woman. The person left of center is facing the man on the far left and it looks like they are conversing. On the basis of Hesiod s text people depicted on this vase, from right to left, are Pandora, Hephaestus, Hermes and Zeus. There are numerous attributes that allow the identification of these characters. Pandora in Hesiod s text is being made using mud, which might answer why only a part of the woman is shown on the vase. Furthermore, the woman depicted on the vase is wearing a crown and Hesiod s text mentions crowned her (Pandora) head with spring flowers, (Hesiod) these two things allow me to identify this woman as ... • 7. Compare And Contrast Virginia And Massachusetts Bay Colonies English colonization of the New World began in the late 16th century with several unsuccessful attempts. However, this changed with the settlement of Jamestown, and later with the settlement of Massachusetts Bay. Despite these settlements having similarities, they were fundamentally different in most respects. From the areas where they settled, the reasoning behind each settlement, their development, and the various problems and conflicts that arose in each. A uniqueness can be seen between Virginia and Massachusetts Bay settlements beginning with the history of each. The history of these two settlements begins in the early 17th century when King James I issued a charter between two rival groups of merchants, the London Company (later renamed the Virginia Company) whose interests were in colonizing Virginia, and the Plymouth Company who had interests further north (Brinkley, 23). The charter gave the London Company exclusive rights to colonize the south, and the Plymouth Company received the same rights for the north (Brinkley, 23 24). It is through the efforts of these companies that the first permanent English colonies would be established (Brinkley, 24). Once the charter had been issued the London Company quickly began to set up an expedition for the colonization of Virginia, and on December 6, 1606, 144 men aboard three ships: the Godspeed, the Discovery, and the Susan Constant set sail for the New World (Brinkley, 26). From there the company quickly expanded into a national corporation. With the sweeping globalization movement of the 1990 s, Maytag has attempted to establish a presence as a global competitor in the appliance industry. As the company has tried to establish itself in the developing global marketplace, it has had difficulties. Not only were consumers taste and preferences changing in the domestic market, but the company needed to develop products that would appeal to the new global markets. Technological forces also made a very large change in the mid 90s. With Microsoft s launch of the first user friendly Windows program, home computer usage began to increase. Maytag also at this time is using fuzzy logic in appliances. More technology will continue to be required in appliances as time moves on. Porter s five forces are used to determine the competitive intensity and attractiveness of a market. These are close forces that affect a company s ability to make a profit and serve customers. If any of these forces change, a company must reassess its marketplace. The five forces include: the threat of substitute products, the threat of the entry of new competitors, the intensity of competitive rivalry, the bargaining power of customers and the bargaining power of suppliers. Porter s five forces can be used to analyze Maytag. First, the threat of substitute products is low. The only substitute for a washing machine is a large sink and a great deal of manual labor. Many of the appliances have substitutes, but because those substitutes are so old and outdated there is not a threat from them. Second, the threat of entry of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The De Stijl art movement had just one goal: to make art that was as simple as possible. They wanted to purify art to precision and perfection. Two important elements were composition and balance in their work, making the De Stijl art movement influential in the next few decades of modern design and modern architecture such as we can see in Le Corbusier or Mies Van De Rohe or in the International Style. The De Stijl movement was theorized on the fundamental principles of the simple geometry (such as straight lines, squares, and rectangles) with asymmetrical arrangements as well as the use of true primary colors in tandem (such as blue, yellow, red, white and black). Also the association between positive and negative. The goal of the movement in design was to make simple things such as furniture and buildings a piece of art itself. The 20th century brought TV, radio, and the Internet. Just as these media channels defined their times, so the rise of new media will also define the 21st century. In modern society, all public relation practitioners are confronted with a startling series of new communications channels and struggle with the impact of new media. More specifically, new media is an open communication, it permits all people to respond and interact with material directly. New media also gives people real power to create, express, even produce their own ideas. For example, a sightseer or a reader can leave their comments on your blog. Traditional media revolves around the information producer , and how or what it says. New media is more friendly, more humane, and more people centered, than traditional media. The very first item that caught my attention as I entered was a line of racks for coat hangers. Normally they would not be one of the first objects an audience would notice in the house. The actors naturally guided the audience to hang their coats on the hangers. As I went further into the space, I realized the audience seats did not face the stage; the platform in which performance usually takes place on was veiled by black curtains, visually creating a wall. This creation of the new wall yet did not induce me to raise a question on where the actors would act; its answer was evidently shown. The house was stripped down to a bare, flat ground, encircled by the audience chairs. I did not see any specially raised platform that highlighted any actor s presence. Nor did I see any decorative set design, apart from two pillars and a bench in between, which distinctly differentiated the acting region from the spectator region. I did see a blue tape on the ground that physically defined the stage area. However, sitting in the front row, the tape mark was so close that I could easily step on it. Meanwhile, instead of preparing themselves at the backstage for the play to start, the actors walked around and interacted with the audience members through informal conversation. They all wore their casual clothing; if I did not ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Risk Management Plan For A Company Risk Management The process that helps project managers follow when they need to calculate, identify, and manage risk in a company is defined as Risk Management. When a company faces risk, risk management would be the ideal solution to use that to solve the known and unknown risks. Risk management plans should be ready to help reduce and prevent those risks because most risks in a company are uncertain. When a company is facing risks that are uncertain, these risks come up very fast and they could be potentially harmful. They should be treated right away. Segmented Assimilation Theory Alejandro Portes and Min Zhou introduced the concept of segmented assimilation, which stressed a three part path: assimilation for those with advantages in human capital, an ethnic disadvantage for some because of poverty and racialization, and the selective retention of ethnicity for yet others. Assessing present levels of assimilation among today s immigrant groups requires considering the possibility that the process itself may be changing. To ascertain this, we must first understand three major theories of immigrant and ethnic group integration. The theories are the classic and new assimilation models, the racial/ethnic disadvantage model, and the segmented assimilation model. However, after 1939, the station was to serve only the suburbs, as its platforms had become too short for the modern, longer trains that appeared with the progressive modernisation of the railroads. In 1975, the Direction des Musées de France had considered installing a new museum within the train station, in which all of the arts from the second half of the 19th century would be displayed. It wasn t until October 1977 that the official decision to construct the Musée d Orsay went ahead. The title of this particular poem, The Lesson is very significant to the poem within itself. The lesson that is preached in this poem is about the constant courage and determination in one s life to defeat and her refusal to be overwhelmed by the challenges of life. Her hope as a determined woman will get her through her personal and physical tribulations, and even though each challenge in life offers her up a small dose of death, every time, it cannot keep her or anybody technically speaking down permanently. Battle Of The Somme Essay The Preliminary Bombardment Of The British Empire On The German Empire In The Battle of The Somme The Battle of the Somme, also known as The Somme Offensive, was a battle fought in the First World War by the allied forces headed by the British Empire in support of France against the German Empire on an approximate 30 kilometer front near the upper reaches of the Somme river in France. The Somme Offensive is attributed as starting on July 1st 1916 with an infantry attack and concluding on November 18th 1916 for a total of 141 days ending in an inconclusive stalemate leading to a war of attrition between both empires. Haig settled late on a plan with a five day artillery barrage leading to an infantry attack on June 29th. The artillery barrage was designed for the first two days to reduce the Germans wire defenses to create freedom of maneuver for the infantry across the no man s land. The last three days of the barrage would be used to reduce trenches, emplacements, strong points, and artillery pieces, as well as fire smoke and gas canisters to confuse the German forces about their intentions. Even with over 1,500 artillery pieces at his disposal this would not be enough to make enough of an effect on German defenses. Haig tasked his artillery to too many areas on the front wires and in depth along the 30 kilometer trench system. After the five day artillery bombardment a majority of wire was intact and many trenches and emplacements were still usable and manned. Using dialect and rhythm, Brown manages to show the way blues music reaches its intended audience without breaking from the language said audience would use to describe this. In this way, Brown creates a poem which does not simply describe its subject, but celebrates it fully, and associates itself not with white literature describing black Americans but with what could be called black American literature. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The blues singer in Ma Rainey has an almost mystical quality to her as she manages to soothe everyone for miles aroun (Brown, Stanza I, line 4) with her songs. Hughes mentions the richness jazz and blues add to lower class black culture, and how the middle and upper class black Americans tend to turn away from blues as a signifier of the race they wish to leave behind. Brown celebrates blues as a way of connecting people, and of giving them something to hold onto as they battle the hardships associated with not being white in America. While those who wish to be white spurn blues music as too black, Brown proves in his poem that blues is an essential way of bringing people together. He paints a picture of its immense impact when he describes the listeners crying together as Ma Rainey sings. This, in turn, serves as a call to other black artists to stop trying to break away from their race, as it invokes a sense of belonging. All the people who come watch Ma Rainey sing belong to a community of rural black Americans, and from this community they do face adversity, yet scenes like the one described in Ma Rainey show that there is also a positive takeaway from being a part of it. In the earlier mentioned segment from the third stanza, Brown s use of direct address sets up Ma Rainey as an omniscient, almost godlike figure. The speaker, and presumably the reader included in the speaker s us, can look to her for solace amidst their struggle. Brown implies that those who look to their own culture may find meaning in it, which speaks to Hughes invocation for artists to Let the blare of Negro jazz bands and the bellowing voice of Bessie Smith singing the Blues penetrate the closed ears of the colored near intellectuals until they listen and perhaps understand, ... Microbial Seeding Oil degrading microorganisms seem to be ubiquitous, with their number typically limited by the hydrocarbon supply (Namazi et al., 2008). Another approach is to add exogenous microorganisms with known degradative activities, either natural isolates or engineered (Narasimhan et al., 1983). Seeding involves the introduction of allochthonous microorganisms into the natural environment for the purpose of increasing the rate or extent, or both of biodegradation of pollutants. The rationale for this approach is that the autochthonous microorganisms may not be capable of degrading the wide range of potential substrates present in complex mixtures such as petroleum (Raghavan, 1998). Terrestrial ecosystems differ from aquatic ecosystems in that soils contain higher concentrations of organic and inorganic matter and generally, large number of microorganisms and are more variable in terms of physical and chemical conditions (Bossert et al., 1984). Many fail to realize how ignorant of a tourist they are. Kincaid explains that tourists are morally ugly and use other, less fortunate people, for their own amusement. She tries to enlighten those who are privileged to be more considerate when they are visiting new places. Published author Jamaica Kincaid wrote The Ugly Tourist, originally written in her book, A Small Place, where she tries to convince readers that tourists are, a piece of rubbish (207). Kincaid s attempt to convey to the audience that tourists are ignorant and morally ugly is partially successful, due to her satisfactory emotional appeal, yet inability to produce a less angry tone, along with minimal logical appeal. To begin, Kincaid uses emotional appeal throughout the essay to further her argument. She begins by painting the audience a picture of themselves in their everyday life. Walking with an everyday crowd, they begin to realize how alone you feel in this crowd, how awful it is to go unnoticed, how awful it is to go unloved (Kincaid 206). Kincaid starts off her piece by making her audience feel isolated and alone, setting the tone for the rest of the piece. She makes the everyday audience, who can afford to escape their everyday life, feel unappreciative of their situation. This furthers her argument by making the audience feel poorly about things they may take for granted, that many natives from poorer countries cannot afford. They may have the luxury to travel outside of their bubble, while natives do not have the same luxury as them. In addition, Kincaid makes the reader feel embarrassed. Kincaid restates, An ugly thing, that is what you are when you become a tourist, an ugly, empty thing, a stupid thing, a piece of rubbish pausing here and there... behind their closed doors they laugh at your strangeness (207). She gives the reader the idea that the natives are mocking tourists because they are not familiar with their surroundings. Where people should feel the joy of exploring new places, Kincaid ... (p.398) He is saying that he would like to just lay down where he is at for the rest of his life until death sneaks upon him. Death would turn his warm cheeks cold while the waves of the ocean continue and his consciousness would become faint. Shelley is implying that no matter how beautiful or peaceful one s surroundings may be, if one is unhappy he will not be able to enjoy anything around him. In the last stanza, Shelley is saying that some will be sad that he is gone just as he will be sad when this beautiful day is over. But his emotions contrast that he will be sad the day is over because of his attitude towards life. He is not well known by many people and they may not approve of his life, but they may be sad that he is gone anyway. Although the day is gone and the Sun has set, Shelley feels no emotion towards the end of the day because it is a memory that he has apparently enjoyed. Nature Themes in Hurston s Novels, Their Eyes Were Watching God and Seraph on the Suwanee Nature themes resound throughout Hurston s Their Eyes Were Watching God and Seraph on the Suwanee. Perhaps two of the most notable instances where the lush Florida scenery augments the novels plot lines are the tree scenes , in which Janie kisses Johnny Taylor beneath the pear tree in Their Eyes Were Watching God (p. 10 12) and Arvey loses her virginity to Jim beneath the mulberry tree in Seraph on the Suwanee (p. 37 pp. 50 53). In Janie s revelation about her sexuality, she longs to be a pear tree any tree in bloom! This metaphor for Janie s youth and vitality suggest she is in the spring of her life, with her glossy leaves and bursting buds and struggling to make sense of the marriage that is buzzing through the air with bees. Thus in this scene, Janie crosses the threshold from childhood to adulthood, a passage made complete by her hasty marriage to Logan Killicks, a man far beyond the tumultuous spring of youth that Janie is in the midst of in this passage. The passages with the mulberry tree in Seraph on the Suwanee focus more on a sense of rebirth. When Arvey first takes Jim to the mulberry tree, it is because she wants a cleansing of her sacred place from her old feelings for Carl. The images of the new mulberries growing perpetuate this theme of rebirth in this scene. The word green also repeats itself, implying a sense of youth. This is not so much maturation for Arvey (as it was for Janie) as it is a rebirth, a changing of her ways as well as an introduction into sexuality. The actual scene where Arvey loses her virginity is rife with violent images; the tearing have cloth, the gritting of teeth, juxtaposed against images of passion. And with these many writers and poets their work has been different in what they write about. And their work has made an impact on society and on others. And yet in this time some writers have influenced the work of others. Walt Whitman and Allen Ginsberg who are separated by a time gap have a kind of connection. Both of these amazing writers wrote pieces of work that are considered a catalyst for the Beat Generation. These two courageous writers went against the norm and wrote about something different. Although they are different they both explored new topics. Walt Whitman s Song of Myself and Allen Ginsberg s Howl have similarities right from the first page. The first thing that they both have in common is the structure of their work. Both Howl and Song of Myself have long lines and they keep like that. Having these long lines makes the story flow. Doing this in these two works made it have some kind of steady rhythm so it was easy to read. Also another similarity Whitman had on Ginsberg was at the beginning of each sentence. In Howl the beginning would always start with who . In Song of Myself the first word of the line is Nor. This would be happening quite often. Ginsberg and Whitman both wrote about topics against what other writers would talk about. Whitman would write about sexuality/the human body and it scared off some of his readers.
