Persuasive Essay On Weightlifting Vs Powerlifting
Anthony Scionti
Powerlifting Vs. Weightlifting
There are many debates about weather powerlifting or weightlifting is better for athletic training. In
my opinion I think that in order to reach max performance you must use both powerlifting and
weightlifting. Powerlifting has a bigger risk because you use more weight but it is risky either way.
Weightlifting helps prevent injury and is used in almost every sport.
The most important aspect of training is absolute strength because it controls all strength gains. We
can assume that the most important aspect of athletic development should be focused on the training
of absolute strength, which is rooted with powerlifting. Powerlifting methods make the training of
absolute strength a priority.
The better approach in the training of athletes is a mix of both powerlifting and weightlifting in my
opinion. Like I said earlier powerlifting has a bigger risk. But weightlifting helps to prevent injury.
You need to have absolute strength foundation before any explosive strength development can occur.
Olympic lifting is a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By combining absolute strength and plyometrics training methods, an athlete will have a more
complete balance of the skills needed to perform at a high level on the field of play. The basic
philosophies used in Olympic weightlifting methods of training are based around injury prevention,
power output, metabolic specificity, biomechanical specificity, high rates of force development, and
muscle synchronization. So in this case I think that weightlifting is better than powerlifting because of
injury prevention, power output, high rates of force development, and muscle synchronization. Also
with weight lifting for football you can mimic the 30 45 second burst of

The Legacy Of The Vietnam War Essay
Robert S. McNamara served as the Secretary of Defense from 1961 to 1968 under Presidents Kennedy
and Johnson. While historians place considerable focus on his role in the Vietnam War, McNamara
also helped shape the U.S. s greater Cold War strategy. A large component of this included the
relatively new field of nuclear politics. He understood the significance of nuclear weapons as a
strategic tool for bargaining. Through clear messaging, the weapons could create gains while never
actually being fired. However, he also proposed that nuclear war could be limited, and not inevitably
lead to global extinction. His contemporaries often dismissed this view, and indeed it remains
controversial. After 1968, the former Secretary continued to advise nuclear policy through published
papers, adding considerable fodder for our discussion of his positions on the topic. In Arms and
Influence Thomas Schelling spends significant passages describing McNamara s concept of limited
nuclear war. He quotes a speech from 1961 in which McNamara insists, principle military
objectives...should be the destruction of the enemy s military forces, not of his civilian population.
With traditional weapons, the enemy army generally has to fight its way through the defending army
before accessing civilians. Nuclear missiles eliminate this intermediate step, allowing a hostile body to
quickly destroy a great amount of civilian life without engaging the other army. McNamara advocated
a kind of limited war that

Who Is Van Gogh A Savage
Since the very young age Van Gogh s art caught my attention. Unique and expressive, Van Gogh
created his pieces to be representations of his mental work and experience. In his painting Dutch
master achieves architectural effects by putting extremely thick paint applications. From my personal
experience it is amazing (I ve seen couple of his works in Russian Hermitage) how he didn t fear the
canvas or paints. People of his epoch, when comparing his works to Monet s probably thought that
Van Gogh is a savage. But this pure energy of a savage had passed through generations and lives today
through many reprints and we study it today. But Van Gogh wasn t just a savage, he was a master, but
he achieved this state of perfection uniquely,

Causes Of Gang And Gang Violence
Gang and gang violence has always been an ongoing problem within the country. Street gangs have
evolved into some of the most notorious group associated with murders and killings that law
enforcement agencies have encountered. Gang violence has become one of the most serious crime
problem happening in the country that involves physical assaults, drive by shootings, homicides,
robberies, prostitutions, and home invasion along with a long list of criminal activities. It had occurred

If the family associates love and respect for each other and themselves and engages in such act then it
may deter them from trying to find it elsewhere. Juveniles engages in gang related activities because
they lack the love and respect or living in abusive homes in which leads to troubled childhood
delinquency. It encourages them to engage in gang to fulfill their emotional needs while at the same
time vulnerable to the temptation of making money, the freedom and respect that comes with it. There
are several positive and successful programs that are put in place in which involves the help and
deterrence of youth from engaging into gangs. Such task of helping out the youth and future
generations takes time and commitment. Possible solutions of getting involved in helping the youth
that are in the gangs to get them off the streets are implementing the same gang model that they
already know in which involves the commitment of one to another as members of a close knitted
family but without the drugs and violence. With the ideas and belief that they have already known
would be easier to implement and develop programs that they are familiar to. Such programs should
instill the same love, respect, and belonging as one would receive when joined a gang; therefore, it

The Importance Of Slavery In America
South Carolina was one of other numerous states in the United States of America that supported
slavery. Many citizens that lived in southern states during this time were in support of slavery because
the southern economy was based on it during this time. Slaves traveled to America from West Africa
through the Middle Passage. In addition, if they survived the travel through the Middle Passage they
were placed in an auction in a few days after they were cleaned and fed. The West Africans were
brought to America because of their knowledge on how to produce and cultivate rice ( African Slaves
on South Carolina Plantations ). On the southern plantations the slaves did most of the labor on the
plantations. Even though they did most of the work they were often treated harshly by their master.
Slavery lasted for over hundreds of years until Abraham Lincoln passed the Emancipation
Proclamation during the Civil War. Although he passed the Emancipation Proclamation the slaves
were not freed until years later after Reconstruction. In the South Carolina many people owned
plantations and slaves. The slaves had strict rules to follow and often were treated harshly. In an
attempt the make the African American lives better Abraham Lincoln passed the Emancipation
Proclamation in order to set all the slaves free and give them equality, although for many this did not
happen until years later.
All throughout slavery, slaves were abused by their masters. Once slaves were taken to the

The Orca Ordeal Essay
The latest animal rights issue to hit the public is a whale of a controversy. For decades, the public has
enjoyed visiting SeaWorld and taking in mesmerizing displays of aquatic performance by orcas, the
largest species of dolphins, and their trainers. Recent events have stirred up a media uproar over the
safety of these creatures and their trainers. Much of what the public knows about the maltreatment of
these creatures comes from a documentary released in 2013 called Blackfish . The breeding and
captivity of killer whales for entertainment purposes poses a threat not only to the whales, but also the
trainers who interact with them.
Observations show that orcas suffer from significant health and emotional issues while in captivity. ...

Being very emotional creatures, captivity denies orcas the emotional connections that they thrive on.
Killer whales form pods in the wild. These groups can be anywhere from 5 orcas to 50. Having strong
emotional attachment to their young, these pods place their safety as top priority. Calves stay with
their mothers until the age of four or later. For entertainment purposes, SeaWorld separates pods and
places calves with different mothers to create the most convenient pod to display in shows
(Cowperthwaite). Though they deny it, they attempt to play God by mixing and matching orcas to
create new families, all for the purpose of show business. Blackfish shows footage of a mother orca
going into extreme depression after being separated from her calf. Captive environments, such as
SeaWorld in Orlando, San Antonio, and San Diego or Loro Parque, in Spain, fail to create a realistic
and natural seeming environment. Orcas need large open spaces to swim, and tanks cannot provide the
size and diversity that an environment should have. Tilikum, perhaps the most famous of SeaWorld s
orcas, experienced lack of stimulation when he was forced to spend his nights in a 20x20 foot metal
box like tank with two other orcas. This environment did not provide light or room to move around; he
would be found in the morning with injuries from other whales kept in the same quarters
(Cowperthwaite). SeaWorld currently allows Loro Parque, a sea themed amusement park in

Comparing King Henry V And Saint Joan Of Arc
Henry V and Saint Joan are popular plays that are focused around the same time period. The main
characters, King Henry and Joan of Arc, are both leaders in battle for the 100 years war between
England and France in these productions. The play King Henry V focuses on the the English King and
how he dealt with the war. It expresses ideas of King Henry that are empowering and strong willed.
He motivates his men using his high class position to enter the war and keep them full of hope and
confidence throughout the battles. In Saint Joan, a young peasant girl named Joan believes God has

the 9/11 attacks, this terrorist organisation shall be the focus of the essay to ascertain whether or not
the 9/11 Commission s suggestion is supported. Section one shall explore Ibn Taymiyya s teachings
and the context in which he was writing in the 13th Century. Section two shall analyse arguments that
support the 9/11 Commission. Following this, sections three, four and five shall examine sources that
challenge the notion that Ibn Taymiyya s teachings are the root of modern Muslim terrorism, due to
contradictions with al Qaeda s ideology. Throughout, the essay holds that the origin of modern
Muslim terrorism does not stem from Ibn Taymiyya s teachings. The basis for this position is that the
organisation responsible for the 9/11 attacks, al Qaeda, has used his writings on the Mongol invasions
to justify jihad against the threat of Westernisation despite al Qaeda and Ibn Taymiyya representing
two forms of religious consciousness (Heck, 2004: 117).

Prisoners without Choice
When people go on a trip to the zoo, it can be assumed that they do not think about much more than
what they can see. Signals that make zoos unfair and sometimes unbearable for the captive animals are
not visible to most spectators. This essay will explain how zoos are unjust and should not be
supported. Animals should not be held captive due their negative behavioral changes, lack of natural
habitat and the zoos failure to effectively preserve endangered species.
Even though zoos try to imitate the natural habitat of each animal, the area for the zoo might not be

When introduced with stress animals act strangely, and their actions are visible to zoo visitors, but
viewers are not aware of why they are doing these things. According to PETA (People for the Ethical
Treatment of Animals), when animals pace from side to side, walk in circles, lick their bars, roll their
heads, and rock back and forth, they are under severe stress. Most captive animals also perform acts of
self mutilation, and eat their own feces. There are even some cases of stillbirths caused by stressful
conditions. Animals who naturally live in large herds should not be housed alone, and solitary animals
should not be kept in groups. These situations also create unhappiness in captive animals. Zoo animals
living under anxiety and tension also add to the difficulties of conserving species.
Zoos claim to conserve species, but they frequently fall short on this promise. The zoo industry
rationalizes the caging and breeding of animals by claiming that zoos enhance conservation efforts,
but the facts do not back up this claim. According to a joint report by the World Society for the
Protection of Animals and the Born Free Foundation, with the best will in the world, and even with all
their combined resources, zoos cannot hope to save more than a few of the animal species that are
doomed to become extinct within the next decade (Laws). According to PETA, reintroductions of

Dbq Era of Good Feeling Ap Us History Essay
The period after the war of 1812 was labeled The Era of Good Feeling by historians. Some people
believe that this is an accurate label of this time period, but others disagree. Due to the emergence of
sectionalism concern with local interests, and nationalism patriotic feelings and self pride, people had
mixed feelings about this time period. Many people felt that times were high, and that nationalism and
sectionalism could only bolster the union, while others thought that it was sectionalism and
nationalism that caused disunion. Some of the documents used in this essay support the claim that the
period after 1812 was an era of good feelings. Other documents will oppose this claim with proof
from their own perspectives. Document B ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
(Doc. D). The case says that it would be difficult to sustain this proposition. Anna Hayes Johnson of
South Carolina wrote to her cousin in North Carolina complaining about the unhappy business which
has filled with consternation all our city and how nothing can save them. She writes that fifty to sixty
percent of the leaders are in jail, and twenty of them have been convicted and sentenced. (Doc. G).
The people living during this time period do not seem to think as highly of it as the people discussed
in the previous paragraph did. Documents E and I both portray different feelings about this era.
Document H is a political map that exemplifies sectionalism perfectly. During the presidential election
of 1820, James Monroe won every vote but one, but in 1824, the votes were split up between four
different candidates, and the results were just as varied. Each state had its own mind and voted for
who they felt was right, and not just as one union. Document E is a density map that shows how
populated each square mile of land was in 1820. Much of the land had less than two inhabitants per
square mile, and the people living there felt that they shouldn t be taxed the same as somewhere where
there were ninety or more inhabitants like in the northeast. This is a prime example of people who did
not think this was The Era of Good Feeling. The Era of Good Feeling is a label given to the time

differ in size, organisational culture (therefore differing needs), the ability and/or resources to manage
an effective process to support PRP. This study will explore whether performance bonuses offer a win

Intangible services are much harder to quantify.
Performance Management Cycle
Key performance indicators (KPIs) are formed as part of the performance and appraisal process to
measure the output of an individual. The performance appraisal allows a comparison to be made of the
actual performance against expected performance (KPIs), which is linked to feedback and whether the
individual has warranted a reward.
However, there are many potential problems with the performance appraisal system. The process can
become a bureaucratic process with managers seeing it as a tick box exercise to be completed once a
year. There could be a lack of understanding of the objectives by the employee, or the organisation
may not have a clear strategy and furthermore the process is subjective and open to human bias. It is
also very difficult to quantify individual performance such as intangible elements, as mentioned
earlier. So it could be argued that the process is not very transparent.
To overcome this, Beer et al. introduced the Harvard Model (Gilmore. S, 2009, p.9) which takes into
account a wider range of stakeholders interests to provide an input into the appraisal process which
allows the reduction of a bias opinion of just one person. It is stated as reduction, as the process is still
subjective and open to a range of perceptual errors although

There are still several options for treatment that you must choose from, as well as having to deal with
side effects that accompany each treatment. Of all the treatments, antidepressants tend to have the
most side effects. Some of the side effects common to all three types of antidepressants are: anxiety,
vomiting, confusion, chest pain, blurred vision, irritability, insomnia, sexual dysfunction, weight gain,
headache, and nervousness (Cheung et al. 2003, Vanderkooy et al. 2002). Some other, more severe,
side effects are difficulty urinating, decreased appetite, heart complications, and suicide (Simon and
Stern 2003 Review). It is the last side effect, suicide, which has recently caused some controversy
within the medical field. With recent research showing a correlation between antidepressants and
suicide, as well as the FDA ordering warning labels for suicide on antidepressant medication,
physicians have to be careful prescribing the drugs, especially to children and adolescents.
Statistics show suicide to be the third leading cause of death among 13 19 year olds, with
approximately 6000 suicide deaths each year (Dickinson 1999). Because of statistics like this, the

suicide among children and adolescents. However, until then, the best prevention appears to lie in

this because of the caterpillar in the begging of the book is smoking a hookah while talking to Alice.
People also thought it was associated with drug culture because they thought it was associated with

believe that animals should not be put on the same level as humans and animals should not use human
language. These things are deemed an abomination in the sight of God in many religions. A third
reason why it was thought banned is because people thought it was too strange and full of nonsense.
That is why some librarians wouldn t put it on their shelves. One last reason why it was considered
banned is because some people thought Lewis Carroll was a pedophile. They thought this because
Carroll had an interest in little girls and would take pictures of them for his hobby for photography.
Carroll liked little girls but not in that way. When he was in school as a young boy he got bullied a lot

The Cold War And The Soviet Union
The Cold War was a state of political hostility between the U.S and the Soviet bloc, the most powerful
nations in the world. The two countries fought together as allies in World War II but toward the end of

Censorship In Young Adult Literature
While reading the assigned chapters of the textbook I found many points interesting and informative.
The first portion that caught my attention involved how to incorporate both young adult literature and
the classics into a curriculum. A very interesting metaphor was used to describe why adolescents
shouldn t read the classics. I was really able to relate to the idea of how well written young adult
literature can encourage students to read and can possibly lead to reading the classics. I think that it is
a great idea to pair a young adult book with a classic in order to engage reading as well as help address
certain points of the classic. This idea plays well with how to encourage reluctant readers to want to
read, which is the next point I will discuss. A reluctant reader is something that most teachers will
have to deal with at some point in their career. It can be very difficult for some students to get into the
habit of reading for pleasure, it is also common for avid readers to be in a stage where they just do not
want to read. This is a situation that I can relate to very strongly seeing as I love to read but sometimes
find myself in a reading slump, where I struggle to motivate myself ... Show more content on

Personally, I had never heard the term censorship used in relation to literature, and that made this
section all the more interesting to me. Censorship is used to describe when individuals, such as
librarians or teachers, find certain ideas and information dangerous or objectionable to readers. People
examine books, films, dramas, and television to determine and suppress information they find
offensive. These ideas are practiced by teachers and librarians when finding books for adolescents to
read. Books that involve offensive language, violence, sexism, or substance abuse are often not
considered to be appropriate for young adults, therefore they are not included in many

Alfred Hitchcock s 1954 film Rear Window is a representation of the attitudes towards men and
women in the 1950 s. Through this film Lisa Freemont and L.B Jeffries experience a power shift in
their relationship due to each individual s capabilities and ideas regarding the suspected murder case.
Lisa and Jeffries relationship progresses through the film and their relationship experiences a power
shift.
Alfred Hitchcock s film Rear Window released in 1954 portrays the power shift between the fictional
couple, L.B Jeffries and Lisa Freemont. In the beginning of the film the audience perceives Lisa as a
perfect, high maintenance, wealthy woman who did everything to grasp Jeffries attention and prove to
him that she is a worthy wife. However, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

aren t that unpredictable...A woman has a favourite handbag that always hangs on her bedpost where
she can get at it easily, then all of a sudden, she goes away on a trip and leaves it behind. Jeffries
realises that there is more to Lisa than what meets the eye, she is multidimensional, intelligent and not
just a beautiful woman who loves dresses. Lisa is dismissed by Doyle when she and Jeffries tell him
about their suspicions, Doyle says that feminine intuition stuff sells magazines, but in real life it s still
a fairy tale. Lisa tells Jeffries that A woman never goes anywhere but the hospital without packing
makeup, clothes, and jewellery. This increases Jeffries suspicions. Jeffries admires Lisa s bravery,
when she climbs through the window to Lars Thorwald s apartment. Lisa is put in danger, when she

realises he needs her to be his legs and relies on her to do the things he can t. Jeffries respects Lisa

La Farce de Maitre Pathelin- the character of Guillemette
La Farce de Maitre Pierre Pathelin has been called a little masterpiece . In comparison to most earlier
works of French medieval literature, it is highly complex in many aspects. In the words of Cazamian,
a high level of artistic creation is reached. This essay will focus on Guillemette and study both her role
in the play, and the complex nature of this character. Such a study should give the reader an idea of the
plays high level of artistic creation , and also illustrate some of the many witty double meanings and
underlying messages that are present right throughout the Farce.
Although Guillemette appears in only four of the ten scenes of the Farce (according to the scene
division in the modern French translation), she is much more ... Show more content on

In scene V, a similar comparison can be made between the intelligence of Guillemette and that of the
drapier. It is true that Guillemette has the advantage over the drapier in that she is at home and
Pathelin is on her side against the drapier; but one would still assume that a crafty tradesman would be
more quick witted than a simple housewife. Yet, as already noted above, Guillemette manages to
completely outsmart and deceive the drapier, leaving him dumbfounded. In this scene, as in scenes I
and III, Guillemette s cleverness is clear.
So Guillemette comes across as more intelligent than the other main characters in the play; and, unlike
them, she is not the victim of trickery. The result of this is that Guillemette is the character with whom
the audience can identify with most closely. In a play such as the Farce, where there is no narrator, one
of the characters often plays the role of an intermediary between the characters and the audience. Such
a character encourages the audience to feel more involved in the play and to see it as a reflection of
their own society. In the Farce and it is Guillemette who plays this role, and it is in this way that she is
most important. At no point does she address the audience

The Core Arguments Of Hershey Company
The core arguments of Hershey Company in this case are very clearly stated. Senator Steve Hershey
used their company s Trade Dress on multiple campaign signs for multiple elections. In 2002, Mr.
Hershey was running for commissioner of Queen Anne s County in Maryland. He used a design for
his campaign that looked very similar to a Hershey s chocolate bar wrapper. The background was
brown, the lettering was white, and the font was bolded in all capital letters. In 2010, Steve Hershey
used a design that looked even more similar to a Hershey s chocolate bar wrapper than the one he had
used previously. This campaign sign had a brown background, white bolded font, all capital letters,
and included a white border. In 2014, Steve Hershey used a campaign logo with a two toned brown
Maryland flag background, his last name in all capital bolded letters, similar font, and underneath
read, state senate. Despite having the same name, Steve Hershey is not affiliated with The Hershey
Company in any way. The Hershey Company believed that Steve Hershey s use of their Trade Dress
could cause confusion amongst the general public. When the Hershey Company contacted Steve
Hershey for the first time in 2002, they wrote him a letter asking him to stop using the Hershey s
Trade Dress. In 2010, The Hershey Company contacted Mr. Hershey again and urged him to stop
using their Trade Dress, but they allowed him to use those campaign signs for the primary election
only. The Hershey Company and Mr.

Essay about First Time Homebuyers
First Time Homebuyers
LAS 30012
Ms. James Etta Goodloe
5/23/13
Abstract
There is always the common question what does it take to get a first time home buyers loan? And the
answer is there is so much that goes into the process of getting a home loan. You have to find out if
there is a down payment and what percentage the seller wants for a down payment. Is the seller going
to pay the closing costs or does that come out of your pocket? All these questions and more are what
go into getting a home loan.

No one really realizes the time and patience it takes to get a first time home buyers loan. The first and
most critical step in homeownership is getting the right mindset. This principally involves ... Show

Well, that depends on a number of factors, including the cost of the house and the type of mortgage
you get. In general, you need to come up with enough money to cover three costs: earnest money the
deposit you make on the home when you submit your offer, to prove to the seller that you are serious
about wanting to buy the house; the down payment, a percentage of the cost of the home that you must
pay when you go to settlement; and closing costs, the costs associated with processing the paperwork
to buy a house. When you make an offer on a home, your real estate broker will put your earnest
money into an escrow account. If the offer is accepted, your earnest money will be applied to the
down payment or closing costs. If your offer is not accepted, your money will be returned to you. The
amount of your earnest money varies. If you buy a HUD home, for example, your deposit generally
will range from $500 $2,000. The more money you can put into your down payment, the lower your
mortgage payments will be. Generally most banks will want a 10% to 20% payment to put down
towards your loan. The more money you can put into your down payment, the lower your mortgage
payments will be.
New loan offerings make it easier to buy a home, but harder to pick which mortgage is right for you.
The standard 30 year fixed rate mortgage allows predictable payments. If you re planning on moving
quickly, consider an adjustable rate mortgage, which has low

Women And Female Characters In Homer s Medea
Another of Greco Roman mythology s strongest and most prominent female characters is Medea.
Throughout her different iterations, Medea is shown to be closely associated with the female ability to
give and withhold life. First of all, she was a disciple of Hecate who, aside from being the goddess of
the moon, witchcraft, and crossroads (Brooks, Lesson 12: Perseus and Demeter), is described in
Hesiod s Theogony as a nurse of the young (455) and having the ability to increase[e] stock in a pen
[...] if she wills in her heart she can multiply them or make them diminish (446 449). Consistent with
Hecate s abilities, Medea s plot against Pelias, described in Ovid s Metamorphoses, revolves around
her ability to give life by return[ing] the vigor and bloom of youth (7.215). Additionally, in Euripides
Medea, she tells King Aigeus that she will put an end to [his] childlessness (716) and help him beget
heirs of [his] blood (717) in order to ensure that Athens will grant her asylum after executing her
revenge on Jason (679 758). Overall, Medea is shown to be a woman with great control over life.
However, she does not only grant it, she also exercises her ability to take it away. Medea kills her own
children as a part of her plan to take revenge on Jason, stating that if die they must, I shall slay them,
who gave them birth (Euripides 63). She also kills Creon s daughter, stating that never shall [Jason]
beget children by his new bride (Euripides, Medea 803 804), which results in a complete loss of all his
current and potential heirs. Ultimately, the play ends with Medea escaping without punishment for her
actions, and this fact seems to affirm a mother s rights over the life they have given. A similar situation
can be found in Ovid s Metamorphoses, where Procne kills her son and serves him to her husband,
Tereus, for dinner as retribution for the rape and mutilation of her sister (6.620 674). It is a particularly
fitting punishment as it violates Tereus body in a similar manner, by forcing him to contain something
unwanted, and allows Procne and Philomela to retake the control that was stolen from them. Not only
do both mothers kill their children the one thing they have an inherent right to control

Historical Significance Of The Steam Invention
Introduction:
In the real world, human beings always rely on various natural resources to survive over thousand
years. The ancients use water and woods mostly. As the time goes by, modern people considered that
oil and coal are the most important energy for people. In human history, people have been experienced
industrial revolutions over three times. The very first time industrial revolution occurred at 1760s and
ended at 1850s and it marks that mankind entered the age of steam. Without any doubt, all kinds of
steamer boomed at the market, steam locomotive, steam train and etc. It proved that historical
significance of the steam inventions, which ended the human dependence on animal power, wind and
water for over 4700 years, at the meantime, due to the steam things, some human historian believed
that 19th century European domination of the world is based on the steam engine. After decades, a
new type of energy source for human has been obtained natural resources and people would develop
the possession of the earth fossil fuels, namely oil and gas. The second industrial revolution had
changed the world operation mode, which means Mankind entered the age of electricity and reach the
peak in the information revolution. Oil and coal became the major resources. Especially after 1870, all
industries are subject to the impact of science. Due to the use of electricity and the invention of the
main use of oil and gasoline internal combustion engine, the power industry has been

Essay on Cultural and Financial Management
This paper will scrutinizes the actual impact of culture on financial management. Before I proceed to
what I believe to be not only a factually inept argument of cultural influence on economics but also a
grossly delusional and rather prejudiced view as well, I must first set some sort of context to what I
am alluding to. The assignment stipulates for me to, address if the framework of financial
management can apply to any country or culture. The simple and short answer to this is no , financial
management is different depending on the country and or culture. For example Germans don t buy

financial system to that of the west. Simply put ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Opponents of Marx say that he inverted the correlation of culture and economic relations (Guiso,
Sapienza Zingales 2006 p.5). In other words these opponents of Marx think that culture dictates the
financial system and or economy. Although at first glance this may seem like a silly argument akin to
nature vs. nurture and origins of which came first the chicken or the egg, corresponding into nothing
more than, probably some level of both or worse an irrelevant loop, there is nevertheless an important
fundamental difference to the exact correlation of culture and the economy. Thus, I proclaim that Marx
is not only factually correct, (economy supersedes culture) but morally as well. Marx is factually
correct because I can use his hypothesis to logically dispute all claims that culture supersedes the
economy. The first prominent opponent of Marx s theory in favour of culture was Max Weber who
stipulated that the Protestant Reformation taught that the pursuit of wealth should be regarded not
merely as an advantage, but as a duty (Guiso, Sapienza Zingales 2006 p.6). This meant that the
Protestants reinforced with a new cultural imperative went on to become financially stronger. If Marx
was still alive he would have scoffed at such an exaggerated claim, stating that if it was not for the
invention of the printing press, which caused the Catholic Church to lose its monopoly on scripture,
then such a reformation would never have happened. Also the changing economic

Essay on Stereotypes of Hispanic Women in Cinema
The Latina women, even throughout the era resistance cinema, have not been able to make much
progress in overcoming the degrading stereotypes that Hollywood has created for them. Despite the
many advances that minorities have made in the cinema in recent years, Latina actresses still take on
the roles of the dark skinned lady and other such stereotypes with strong sexual connotations. It is
often debatable whether or not the role of the Latina has undergone dramatic changes since the days of
Dolores Del Rio and Carmen Miranda dancing with the fruit baskets on top of their heads. However,

This character began to appear in the 1930 s, at the same time that an audio component was introduced
into cinema. The audience was not however interested in the voice of the vamp but rather for her
appearance and sex appeal. She was often depicted as exotic and sensual. As Tara Osorio writes, In
early cinema, Hollywood represented Latinas as ignorant, and valued their striking appearance and
figure rather than their intelligence, character, and personalities. (Tara Osorio) With the introduction of
musicals into cinema, there were many opportunities for vamp roles. There were three particular
women in early cinema who were infamous for portraying the vamp character. Carmen Miranda,
Dolores Del Rio, and Lupe Velez were typecast in such roles and were seen in the majority of films
produced in these decades.
This character represented an image that was offensive and insulting to many. The character did not
have many diverse elements and was a rather one dimensional figure. It was even more damaging
when you take into account that the same role was repeated, often by the same actress in a myriad of
films. As one actress Rita Moreno describes after she had played a similar spitfire character fourteen
times in eleven years.
It s really demeaning after you ve won the Oscar to be offered the same role over and over again. They

The Importance Of Chlorinating Water For The Purpose...
Introduction:
The process of chlorinating water for the purpose purifying it, has only been around for just over a
hundred years. Although the process has been seen to have a great effect, in reducing the amount of
disease caught from drinking water (such as typhoid and cholera), it s been a heated debate for years.
The first case of water being disinfected on a mass scale, was done by a man named John L. Leal. Leal
was a physician by profession, but was thought by many to be a bit of a mad man at the time, because
of his idea that chlorine had the properties to disinfect water for drinking. It was thought at the time,
that if chlorine is poisonous when in a gaseous state, then what s to say that it s not poisonous when it
s added to water (creating calcium hydrochloride), which it was (reference 1).Leal spent years of his
life observing the effects were when very small amounts of chloride of lime was added to bacteria
filled water. He observed in more cases than not that the chlorine of lime in the water, ended up killing
almost all of the bacteria while leaving it at a similar PH level of water. During the year of 1908, soon
after Leal was given a job at the Jersey City Water Supply, and with the help of his friend George
Warren Fuller (an engineer). In complete secrecy they installed a chloride of lime feed facility at the
Boon Reservoir, which was the main reservoir for Jersey City (reference 1). Three months after he
committed this daring act, he was called to court

Tracy was really worried about their exit diagrams around the hospital that they aren t up to code. So

what an exit diagram is so let me explain. When you walk into any hospital or surgery center really
any building you will see a picture on the wall saying, You are here on what looks like a picture
hanging on the wall. So the rule in the handbook about fire safety is that the surgery center has to have
one in every part of the building, the bigger the building the more exit diagrams the facility needs to
have. So as I got to reading in the handbook it made it very clear that these exit diagrams should be
easy to read and understand. So after I read that part I took a walk around the facility just to see what
their exit diagrams even looked like. I hadn t paid much attention to this so I was curious to see what
they looked like. As I walked around the facility looking at the different exit diagrams the more I felt

Challenges Facing the UAE Health Care System
No one can deny that UAE is a young rising society and faces a lot of challenges as other young
societies. Those challenges have a great impact on the country development and prosperity regarding
different aspects. One of these aspects is the health care system. No doubt that these challenges do not
affect UAE alone but it also have an effect on other countries all over the world. In my paper, I will
specify challenges affecting the health care system in the United Arab Emirates. Let us spot the light
on the development of health care system in UAE before discussing challenges. For example, The
mortality rate among infants has decreased from 10.1 to 8.71 per 1000 birth child between 1995 and
2004.1 Some studies show that the leading causes of death among UAE nationals are cardiovascular
diseases, accident and poisoning, tumors respectively. Therefore, chronic diseases are considered one
of challenges that the country faces. Other challenges include the lack of the human resources and the
health care services. Chronic disease is long term. Generally, it has no cure. This kind of disease exists
from long time ago. In the last few years, it has increased sharply. There are some diseases which
spread in the UAE such as diabetes hypertension and cardiovascular diseases. Definitely, it has no
cure, but we can reduce it effects and complications. For instance, the cardiovascular diseases are the
main causes of mortality in the UAE, which are estimated by 21.24%. (Ministry of

Adorno And Horkheimer Mass-Deception
Preface
Within this paper I will describe Adorno and Horkheimer best known work in their article, The
Cultural Industry: Enlightenment as Mass Deception. I will describe in great detail their concept of the
culture industry and its mass deception on society. Then, I will compare Adorno and Horkheimer s
view of the creator and receiver to that of the Birmingham School touching on both their similarities
and differences. Lastly, I will explain both schools influence on sociology and sociological research
concerning mass cultural production and describe how an empirical study based on both schools
would compare.
Horkheimer Adorno The Culture Industry
Theodore Adorno and Max Horkheimer studied Sociology within called the Frankfurt School. The
Frankfurt school was founded in 1924 in Germany at Goethe University. The aim of the Frankfurt
school, according to Horkheimer, was to study the interconnection between the economic life of

Structuralism is based off looking at the structures, or the bigger picture within a study. Since Adorno
and Horkheimer are concerned with the mass deception that is created by the larger structures in
society such as the entertainment industry, an empirical study today would look similar to that. The
study could focus on the use of advertisements to create mass deception but it would not be a study of
individual behavior as so much one of the larger institutions within society. Methods that would be
used would be perhaps a literature reviews, a survey on different advertisements and their purpose and
a survey of people s perceptions of advertisements and their purpose. For the study the goal is to study
the effects of the creator on the social world and its receivers and study the links between them all, as

1960s Discoveries And Technology Essay
Discoveries, Inventions, and Technology
The 1960s was a decade where many Americas found a new life and way of living, it was the time of
the hippies, peace and love. It was also a time where many scientific and medical discoveries where
made, these discoveries have improved our everyday lives up to the date. During the sixties
technology advanced with satellites, video games, the Internet etc. and with these advances they have
changed our life style. Without the advance of the internet imagine how we would be today, nowadays
we use the internet for everything we do.
Some of the first discoveries during 1960s was the first ever successful kidney transplant between non
siblings performed in the state of California. This was a major advancement in history because no
there can be kidney transplant donors, which mean more lives are saved. In 1964, a electrical

To What Extent Does Modern Liberalism Depart from...
The classical liberal ideology emerged as a result of the Enlightenment period, which brought about
new philosophies, challenging the existing assumptions about the nature of humankind and society.
Modern liberalism developed around 1870 as a result of both philosophical and practical changes,
including mass industrialisation. Classical liberals argue that modern liberalism has broken the
principles of doctrines central to liberal thought whilst modern liberals claim that they are simply
adapting and building on classical liberalist ideas. This essay will discuss the extent to which modern
liberalism departs from classical liberalisms by analysing approaches to the size of the state,
democracy and the concept of freedom and aims to justify ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This suggests that whilst there is a considerable difference in attitudes between modern and classical
liberals, some parallels can be drawn between them.
Moreover, one way in which modern liberalism has departed from the ideas of classical liberalism is
the extent to which the state should involve itself in the lives of the individual. Classical liberals, in
particular John Stuart Mill, emphasised a minimal state and believed that an interfering state would
impede upon the private lives of individuals. Yet modern liberals fully supported an enabling state;
Beveridge believed that citizens should be protected by the state s from the cradle to the grave. This
implies that, unlike classical liberals, modern liberals supported a government which is fully involved
in the lives of individuals and would therefore support policies such as benefits and the national health
service. However, classical liberals, notably Samuel Smiles, thought that people should take
responsibility for their own welfare because the individual is the guardian of their own prosperity and
therefore state intervention is dangerous. This contradicts the belief of modern liberals, who believed
that a state should be established in order to help people to help themselves.
Although, it could be argued that modern liberalism does not depart significantly from the ideas of
classical liberalism with regards to the size of the state. This is because both forms f the ideology work
towards the same aim;

Symptoms Center On Intensified Mood Changes And General...
Unquiet Mind The DSM 5 presents four broad symptoms for Bipolar I disorder; these symptoms
center on intensified mood changes and general mood abnormalities. This disorder, as Kay Redfield
Jamison described in her memoir, alters a person s life dramatically forever. There are significant long
term distortions, which this disorder brings, but in addition and sometimes more importantly, everyday
life can be a challenge for most with Bipolar I disorder. As often perceived, Bipolar disorder does not
manifest itself as mood swings or as something one cannot treat. An Unquiet Mind helps readers
understand the brutality and complexity of depression, mania and all other related symptoms of manic
depressive illness. It provides a blunt reality ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She accounts for weeks where she seemed to be fine, where she seemed to be as depressed as one can
be and for weeks were her enthusiasms were going on overdrive. The DSM 5 lists 7 additional
symptoms, three of which should be occurring in order to make a diagnosis. Jamison mentioned all of
these in her book, but above all she struggled most with distractibility. As a professor of psychology, a
teacher to many, she painfully recalls times where she wasn t able to read more than two lines of a
book or a research paper. Sometimes it took weeks for her to pass the low and get to the high, where
she didn t need to sleep and instead of reading many, wrote tens of papers and research proposals.
Sometimes in a dying need to buy anything and everything Jamison kept telling herself that God will
provide the money she doesn t have. Collecting unnecessary books, furniture and snakebite kits was a
manifestation of one of the symptoms, one that lead her to great financial instability. Another rather
entertaining story of spending took place in London, where she acquired a book about penguins
because she thought it would be nice if they could form a colony. When something like abnormal
moods affect one s social as well as occupational functioning, it can be a great sign of a diagnosable
disorder. The

Roman Catholic Church Power
According to Strayer and Nelson, The roman catholic church had more power than many empires
during the 15th century. This power was generated from the morality it introduced to its people
bringing many together. This brought many people together for a similar belief making the church
even more powerful socially and politically. As stated by Strayer and Nelson, the empires often
selected church officials for the catholic church. This gave the kings a perception of power that would
keep them at peace with the power that the church actually had. It also kept the empires from fighting
for the power keeping the number of followers strong. Which kept the social and political cohesion
between the empires strong. The roman catholic church generated social and political power that was

Which is mentioned by Strayer and Nelson, the followers of the religion are supposed to follow strict
rules of morality. Showing that despite what your feelings towards a rule are you must follow them to
stay out of trouble. This illustrates and immense amount of power due to the fact that the churches
rules are more important than the rules of the government. Making it certain that the church must have
more power over the governments of the empires because their laws come first. According to Strayer
and Nelson, the church also said that all people should be treated equally. Although the people must
follow this law stated by the church it is evident based on the hierarchical system that this is not the
case. The officials in the hierarchical system at the higher end are making all these decisions showing
that they did not have equality in the decision making despite this rule. Overall, the churches moral
beliefs illustrate that despite the moral beliefs they instill the church still has power over everybody

Caraavaggio
Renaissance And Baroque Art
Caravaggio
Caravaggio was an Italian painter born in Milan around 1571. He is considered one of the fathers of
the modern painting. His father was called Fermo Merisi, who was an architect decorator and a
household administrator. His mother was called Lucia Aratori and she came from one of the
Propertified families in the region. In 1576, the family relocated to Caravaggio to escape the plague
that devastated Milan. His father died in 1577 and the mother died in 1584 (Frank, 2013, p. 292).
Caravaggio remained an orphan at 11 years of age and he was apprenticed in Milan. When he later
went to Rome, his work became accepted due to the technique of tenebrism he used which involved

Hollywood Gladiator History
Gladiator
Throughout Hollywood history, movies have been depicted a lot differently than what art historians
believe had actually happened. Movies have been glorified, characters have been given different
ensembles, and new characters have been developed and introduced. The movie Gladiator was a big
success in the box office and it won many awards. Although the movie was appropriate in the
Hollywood side of things, there are many differences between what Hollywood wants their audience
to see and what was historically correct.
The story follows a man named Maximus Decimus Meridius played by Russel Crowe. In the film
Maximus was a Roman General turned gladiator and although his character was essentially fictional, it
has been said that he seems to be a based upon an actual historical figure named Germanicus who was
a very well known commander of the forces in Germania. We re also ... Show more content on

The Roman Coliseum is located east of the Roman Forum, and beside the Coliseum stood a colossal
statue of Nero which may have gotten its new name from. As shown in the film, the Coliseum was
used for gladiatorial shows. The gladiators were either criminals, slaves or prisoners of war, and could
be male or female. The director was criticized for having female gladiators in the film and although
rare, it is known that there were female gladiators. The amphitheater was known to be of huge
importance in Roman society, Oh you should see the Colosseum, Spaniard. 50,000 Romans watching
every movement of your sword, willing you to make that killer blow. The silence before you strike,
and the noise afterwards, it rises, rises like...like a storm, as if you were the Thunder God himself

were to the Romans but the architecture of the Coliseums where they often took

Neighbor Rosicky Character Analysis
BABYLON REVISITED AND NEIGHBOR ROSICKY 2 F. Scott Fitzgerald s Babylon Revisited and
Willa Cather s Neighbor Rosicky 1. In Willa Cather s Neighbor Rosicky , the protagonist is
hardworking, hospitable, and generous. The main character, Anton Rosicky, is a hardworking
individual, as indicated by the following mentioned by Dr. Burleigh: ...you ve [that is, Anton Rosicky]
always worked hard, and your heart s tired. You ve got to be careful from now on, and you can t do
heavy work anymore (Cather, 1928, p. 1). The lines clearly illustrates that Anton Rosicky is someone
who is often found working hard on his farm. In addition to that, it appears as though he loves to work
hard. Even after the doctor advised Anton not do any strenuous work in the fields, the protagonist still
asked Dr. Burleigh if he could be allowed to shell corn. The doctor immediately turned down his
request. Rosicky s question reveals that he is reluctant to give up his farm work. It, therefore, suggests
that he enjoys the work of being a farmer. Anton Rosicky is also a hospitable individual. This is
demonstrated by the following lines: He [that is, Dr. Burleigh] did not know another farm house where
a man could get such a warm welcome, and such good strong coffee with rich cream (Cather, 1928, p.
3). The above lines indicate that Rosicky would go beyond what was expected of him to make his
guests stay at him home comfortable. Furthermore, it appears as if the welcoming or inviting attitude
that Rosicky had was transferred to the rest of his household. For example, the narrator describes how
the long table , which was prepared by Anton s wife and daughter, was covered with a bright oilcloth ,
and also set out with dishes waiting for the doctor (Cather, 1928, p. 3). Anton s wife also made the
kitchen full of the smell of coffee , hot biscuit , and sausage (Cather, 1928, p. 3). Moreover, Anton s
sons took Dr. Burleigh s fur coat from off his back before hanging it up and helped to put his horse
away (Cather, 1928, p. 3). It can be said that BABYLON REVISITED AND NEIGHBOR ROSICKY
3 Anton s warmth and hospitality was so sincere that it inspired the other family members to behave in
the same way. In addition, Cather s main

Examples Of Masculinity In Macbeth
Manipulation, the act of controlling something or someone, is prevalent in all societies and drives the
plot of Macbeth. Shakespeare s play, Macbeth, is about a loyal soldier who commits horrible atrocities
to become king, only to be defeated in the end. Throughout the play, male characters are influenced
into doing awful acts, which they would not normally have thought to do, after having their manliness
questioned. They strive to match the stereotype of an aggressive and dominant man. In Macbeth,
Shakespeare reveals that men are manipulated into accomplishing violent deeds in an attempt to live
up to the definition of masculinity through his portrayal of male character.
Shakespeare allows Macbeth to be manipulated into violent deeds, such as killing King Duncan, after
Lady Macbeth criticizes the fragility of Macbeth s masculinity. Lady Macbeth attacks Macbeth s
manliness when she exclaims, when you durst do it, then you were a man; and be more than what you
were, you would be so much more the man (1.7.56 58). She is saying that if Macbeth kills Duncan he

Malcolm pushes Macduff to dispute it like a man (4.3.259) when Macduff mourns over the loss of his
family. He is connecting masculinity to violence and telling Macduff to take revenge and retaliate with
aggression. Malcolm pushes Macduff to convert his grief into anger, which is a stereotypical male
behavior, so that he can inflict vengeance on Macbeth. Also, at the end of the scene, Malcolm replies
that this [tune] goes manly (4.3.276) as Malcolm and Macduff set off to kill Duncan. The violent act
that they are about to commit helps secure their manhood by proving that they are able to be manly
and vicious. Malcolm manipulates Macduff into being his soldier and killing Macbeth when he attacks

Fuller s Business Ethics
Ethics and Responsibilities go hand in hand. With businesses that develop products for the public, the
decision making process is crucial. Before one can make a judgement for what is right and wrong, one
must understand to a degree the consequences of those actions.
Businesses have responsibilities for the product they manufacture and distribute, but how much
responsibility is too much. In this perspective, we will examine the ethical implications of product
manufacturing of Product Quality, Pricing, and Labeling and Packaging.
With Product Quality, the responsibilities of a business are simple. Develop a low cost, high quality
product that withstands the normal limitations of it s use. Quality can be defined as doing the ... Show

This would violate the standard of product quality, which is to create a high quality, low costing
product as mentioned earlier.
To further illustrate, Fuller s Company provides industrial glues, coatings, and paints. If a consumer
buys an industrial glue, and it does not work as effectively due to the addition to the noxious oil, this
is an example of doing the wrong thing. On the other hand, if the glue works as promised, but the
consumer gets sick while using the product the correct way, this is an example of the right thing, done
the wrong way. Lastly, if the glue holds for some, and does not for others, then the company has failed
to do the right thing, the first time, and every time. This would make this product one of poor quality,
and that is unethical.
Companies can avoid unintentionally creating poor quality products, and create a peace of mind with
their consumers with the use of warranties. Warranties are obligations to purchasers that sellers
assume. (Shaw, 226) The two types of warranties include express, and implied warranties.
Express Warranties are specific promises made by a seller, whether orally, or in print. These promises
usually include a description of items, the assurance that the product will work as designed, and
factual statements. Concerning case 4.3, an example of an express warranty

Executive Summary:
Blue Ridge Mill is a wood mill owned by Worldwide Paper Company and supplies wood pulp for the
company for use in paper production. Blue Ridge Mill bought its wood supply from Shenandoah Mill
s excess production of shortwood that was processed from its longwood supplies. In 2006, Bob
Prescott, the controller for Blue Ridge Mill, was considering a project that would give Blue Ridge
Mill the capability to process longwood into shortwood, which would eliminate the need to purchase

As a result, the cost of debt is 5.88% and is calculated as follows:
The cost of equity can be calculated by using the capital asset pricing model (CAPM). CAPM requires
that a market risk free rate, the market risk premium, and the beta for the company. The market risk
premium (6%) and the company beta (1.1) is given directly and can be seen in tables 2 and 3 below.
Government bonds are used for the risk free rate. Since 10 year corporate bonds are used for the cost
of debt, the 10 year Treasury Bond of 5.60% will be selected as the risk free rate. The 10 year bonds
are also a good match for the project duration, which is between 5 and 10 years. The cost of equity of
11.20% is than calculated as follows:
With the cost of debt and the cost of equity calculated, the WACC is calculated below. The cost of
debt is further discounted by one minus the tax rate since the interest paid on debt is treated as an
expense prior to being taxed.
Table 2: Interest Rates December 2006
Table 3: Company Financial Information
Using the calculated WACC and the company s hurdle rate for this project, under Bob Prescott s cost
savings and additional revenues assumption, the project s IRR is now greater than the hurdle rate.
Furthermore, the net present value (NPV), payback period and the additional value added to the
earnings per share (EPS) are shown in Table 4 below. Using just these figures, the project should be
accepted.

in different societies have different culture and food, but they also have some similarities. The culture
varies in different things such as clothes, foods, religion, and many others. Not only the culture but
geographical and environmental setting is also playing main role. India is the world s second largest
country after china with 1.3 billion population, while Australia is the world s smallest continent with
24 million population. The capital of India is New Delhi which is in the northern part of India. The
capital of Australia is Canberra which is in northern end of Australia which is also called southwest
Sydney. India is surrounded by three oceans namely Arabian ocean(west), Indian ocean(south), Bay of
Bengal(east). Australia considered to be an island because it is surrounded by Indian ocean(west),
coral seas(north), Pacific Ocean(east) and Tasman sea(south) (Everyculture.com). India is more
vulnerable in climate changes, in India there were three main seasons, winter runs through January
and march, summer runs through April and August and monsoon runs through September and
December. Meanwhile, Australia is generally warm and dry all year round, with no extreme cold and
rain (Foodbycountry.com). India suffers with environmental problems like water and air pollution,

  • 2. Persuasive Essay On Weightlifting Vs Powerlifting Anthony Scionti Powerlifting Vs. Weightlifting There are many debates about weather powerlifting or weightlifting is better for athletic training. In my opinion I think that in order to reach max performance you must use both powerlifting and weightlifting. Powerlifting has a bigger risk because you use more weight but it is risky either way. Weightlifting helps prevent injury and is used in almost every sport. The most important aspect of training is absolute strength because it controls all strength gains. We can assume that the most important aspect of athletic development should be focused on the training of absolute strength, which is rooted with powerlifting. Powerlifting methods make the training of absolute strength a priority. The better approach in the training of athletes is a mix of both powerlifting and weightlifting in my opinion. Like I said earlier powerlifting has a bigger risk. But weightlifting helps to prevent injury. You need to have absolute strength foundation before any explosive strength development can occur. So in this case I think that weightlifting is better than powerlifting because of injury prevention, power output, high rates of force development, and muscle synchronization. • 3. The Legacy Of The Vietnam War Essay Robert S. McNamara served as the Secretary of Defense from 1961 to 1968 under Presidents Kennedy and Johnson. While historians place considerable focus on his role in the Vietnam War, McNamara also helped shape the U.S. s greater Cold War strategy. A large component of this included the relatively new field of nuclear politics. He understood the significance of nuclear weapons as a strategic tool for bargaining. Through clear messaging, the weapons could create gains while never actually being fired. However, he also proposed that nuclear war could be limited, and not inevitably lead to global extinction. His contemporaries often dismissed this view, and indeed it remains controversial. After 1968, the former Secretary continued to advise nuclear policy through published papers, adding considerable fodder for our discussion of his positions on the topic. In Arms and Influence Thomas Schelling spends significant passages describing McNamara s concept of limited nuclear war. He quotes a speech from 1961 in which McNamara insists, principle military objectives...should be the destruction of the enemy s military forces, not of his civilian population. With traditional weapons, the enemy army generally has to fight its way through the defending army before accessing civilians. Nuclear missiles eliminate this intermediate step, allowing a hostile body to quickly destroy a great amount of civilian life without engaging the other army. Much of what the public knows about the maltreatment of these creatures comes from a documentary released in 2013 called Blackfish . For entertainment purposes, SeaWorld separates pods and places calves with different mothers to create the most convenient pod to display in shows (Cowperthwaite). The performance appraisal allows a comparison to be made of the actual performance against expected performance (KPIs), which is linked to feedback and whether the individual has warranted a reward. However, there are many potential problems with the performance appraisal system. The process can become a bureaucratic process with managers seeing it as a tick box exercise to be completed once a year. There could be a lack of understanding of the objectives by the employee, or the organisation may not have a clear strategy and furthermore the process is subjective and open to human bias. It is also very difficult to quantify individual performance such as intangible elements, as mentioned earlier. So it could be argued that the process is not very transparent. To overcome this, Beer et al. introduced the Harvard Model (Gilmore. • 23. La Farce de Maitre Pathelin- the character of Guillemette La Farce de Maitre Pierre Pathelin has been called a little masterpiece . In comparison to most earlier works of French medieval literature, it is highly complex in many aspects. In the words of Cazamian, a high level of artistic creation is reached. This essay will focus on Guillemette and study both her role in the play, and the complex nature of this character. Such a study should give the reader an idea of the plays high level of artistic creation , and also illustrate some of the many witty double meanings and underlying messages that are present right throughout the Farce. Although Guillemette appears in only four of the ten scenes of the Farce (according to the scene division in the modern French translation), she is much more ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In scene V, a similar comparison can be made between the intelligence of Guillemette and that of the drapier. It is true that Guillemette has the advantage over the drapier in that she is at home and Pathelin is on her side against the drapier; but one would still assume that a crafty tradesman would be more quick witted than a simple housewife. Yet, as already noted above, Guillemette manages to completely outsmart and deceive the drapier, leaving him dumbfounded. In this scene, as in scenes I and III, Guillemette s cleverness is clear. So Guillemette comes across as more intelligent than the other main characters in the play; and, unlike them, she is not the victim of trickery. The result of this is that Guillemette is the character with whom the audience can identify with most closely. In a play such as the Farce, where there is no narrator, one of the characters often plays the role of an intermediary between the characters and the audience. Such a character encourages the audience to feel more involved in the play and to see it as a reflection of their own society. In the Farce and it is Guillemette who plays this role, and it is in this way that she is most important. At no point does she address the audience ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

He used a design for his campaign that looked very similar to a Hershey s chocolate bar wrapper. The background was brown, the lettering was white, and the font was bolded in all capital letters. Essay about First Time Homebuyers First Time Homebuyers LAS 30012 Ms. James Etta Goodloe 5/23/13 Abstract There is always the common question what does it take to get a first time home buyers loan? And the answer is there is so much that goes into the process of getting a home loan. You have to find out if there is a down payment and what percentage the seller wants for a down payment. Is the seller going to pay the closing costs or does that come out of your pocket? All these questions and more are what go into getting a home loan. In general, you need to come up with enough money to cover three costs: earnest money the deposit you make on the home when you submit your offer, to prove to the seller that you are serious about wanting to buy the house; the down payment, a percentage of the cost of the home that you must pay when you go to settlement; and closing costs, the costs associated with processing the paperwork to buy a house. When you make an offer on a home, your real estate broker will put your earnest money into an escrow account. If the offer is accepted, your earnest money will be applied to the down payment or closing costs. If your offer is not accepted, your money will be returned to you. The amount of your earnest money varies. If you buy a HUD home, for example, your deposit generally will range from $500 $2,000. The more money you can put into your down payment, the lower your mortgage payments will be. Generally most banks will want a 10% to 20% payment to put down towards your loan. The more money you can put into your down payment, the lower your mortgage payments will be. New loan offerings make it easier to buy a home, but harder to pick which mortgage is right for you. • 27. Women And Female Characters In Homer s Medea Another of Greco Roman mythology s strongest and most prominent female characters is Medea. Throughout her different iterations, Medea is shown to be closely associated with the female ability to give and withhold life. First of all, she was a disciple of Hecate who, aside from being the goddess of the moon, witchcraft, and crossroads (Brooks, Lesson 12: Perseus and Demeter), is described in Hesiod s Theogony as a nurse of the young (455) and having the ability to increase[e] stock in a pen [...] if she wills in her heart she can multiply them or make them diminish (446 449). Consistent with Hecate s abilities, Medea s plot against Pelias, described in Ovid s Metamorphoses, revolves around her ability to give life by return[ing] the vigor and bloom of youth (7.215). Additionally, in Euripides Medea, she tells King Aigeus that she will put an end to [his] childlessness (716) and help him beget heirs of [his] blood (717) in order to ensure that Athens will grant her asylum after executing her revenge on Jason (679 758). Overall, Medea is shown to be a woman with great control over life. However, she does not only grant it, she also exercises her ability to take it away. Medea kills her own children as a part of her plan to take revenge on Jason, stating that if die they must, I shall slay them, who gave them birth (Euripides 63). She also kills Creon s daughter, stating that never shall [Jason] beget children by his new bride (Euripides, Medea 803 804), which results in a complete loss of all his current and potential heirs. Ultimately, the play ends with Medea escaping without punishment for her actions, and this fact seems to affirm a mother s rights over the life they have given. A similar situation can be found in Ovid s Metamorphoses, where Procne kills her son and serves him to her husband, Tereus, for dinner as retribution for the rape and mutilation of her sister (6.620 674). It is a particularly fitting punishment as it violates Tereus body in a similar manner, by forcing him to contain something unwanted, and allows Procne and Philomela to retake the control that was stolen from them. Not only do both mothers kill their children the one thing they have an inherent right to control ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The assignment stipulates for me to, address if the framework of financial management can apply to any country or culture. Although at first glance this may seem like a silly argument akin to nature vs. nurture and origins of which came first the chicken or the egg, corresponding into nothing more than, probably some level of both or worse an irrelevant loop, there is nevertheless an important fundamental difference to the exact correlation of culture and the economy. Thus, I proclaim that Marx is not only factually correct, (economy supersedes culture) but morally as well. Marx is factually correct because I can use his hypothesis to logically dispute all claims that culture supersedes the economy. The first prominent opponent of Marx s theory in favour of culture was Max Weber who stipulated that the Protestant Reformation taught that the pursuit of wealth should be regarded not merely as an advantage, but as a duty (Guiso, Sapienza Zingales 2006 p.6). This meant that the Protestants reinforced with a new cultural imperative went on to become financially stronger. Although the process has been seen to have a great effect, in reducing the amount of disease caught from drinking water (such as typhoid and cholera), it s been a heated debate for years. The first case of water being disinfected on a mass scale, was done by a man named John L. Leal. Leal was a physician by profession, but was thought by many to be a bit of a mad man at the time, because of his idea that chlorine had the properties to disinfect water for drinking. It was thought at the time, that if chlorine is poisonous when in a gaseous state, then what s to say that it s not poisonous when it s added to water (creating calcium hydrochloride), which it was (reference 1).Leal spent years of his life observing the effects were when very small amounts of chloride of lime was added to bacteria filled water. He observed in more cases than not that the chlorine of lime in the water, ended up killing almost all of the bacteria while leaving it at a similar PH level of water. During the year of 1908, soon after Leal was given a job at the Jersey City Water Supply, and with the help of his friend George Warren Fuller (an engineer). Moreover, one way in which modern liberalism has departed from the ideas of classical liberalism is the extent to which the state should involve itself in the lives of the individual. Classical liberals, in particular John Stuart Mill, emphasised a minimal state and believed that an interfering state would impede upon the private lives of individuals. Yet modern liberals fully supported an enabling state; Beveridge believed that citizens should be protected by the state s from the cradle to the grave. This implies that, unlike classical liberals, modern liberals supported a government which is fully involved in the lives of individuals and would therefore support policies such as benefits and the national health service. However, classical liberals, notably Samuel Smiles, thought that people should take responsibility for their own welfare because the individual is the guardian of their own prosperity and therefore state intervention is dangerous. This contradicts the belief of modern liberals, who believed that a state should be established in order to help people to help themselves. Although, it could be argued that modern liberalism does not depart significantly from the ideas of classical liberalism with regards to the size of the state. This power was generated from the morality it introduced to its people bringing many together. This brought many people together for a similar belief making the church even more powerful socially and politically. As stated by Strayer and Nelson, the empires often selected church officials for the catholic church. This gave the kings a perception of power that would keep them at peace with the power that the church actually had. It also kept the empires from fighting for the power keeping the number of followers strong. Which kept the social and political cohesion between the empires strong. Showing that despite what your feelings towards a rule are you must follow them to stay out of trouble. This illustrates and immense amount of power due to the fact that the churches rules are more important than the rules of the government. Making it certain that the church must have more power over the governments of the empires because their laws come first. According to Strayer and Nelson, the church also said that all people should be treated equally. Although the people must follow this law stated by the church it is evident based on the hierarchical system that this is not the case. The officials in the hierarchical system at the higher end are making all these decisions showing that they did not have equality in the decision making despite this rule. • 43. Hollywood Gladiator History Gladiator Throughout Hollywood history, movies have been depicted a lot differently than what art historians believe had actually happened. Movies have been glorified, characters have been given different ensembles, and new characters have been developed and introduced. The movie Gladiator was a big success in the box office and it won many awards. Although the movie was appropriate in the Hollywood side of things, there are many differences between what Hollywood wants their audience to see and what was historically correct. The story follows a man named Maximus Decimus Meridius played by Russel Crowe. In the film Maximus was a Roman General turned gladiator and although his character was essentially fictional, it has been said that he seems to be a based upon an actual historical figure named Germanicus who was a very well known commander of the forces in Germania. • 44. Neighbor Rosicky Character Analysis BABYLON REVISITED AND NEIGHBOR ROSICKY 2 F. Scott Fitzgerald s Babylon Revisited and Willa Cather s Neighbor Rosicky 1. In Willa Cather s Neighbor Rosicky , the protagonist is hardworking, hospitable, and generous. The main character, Anton Rosicky, is a hardworking individual, as indicated by the following mentioned by Dr. Burleigh: ...you ve [that is, Anton Rosicky] always worked hard, and your heart s tired. You ve got to be careful from now on, and you can t do heavy work anymore (Cather, 1928, p. 1). The lines clearly illustrates that Anton Rosicky is someone who is often found working hard on his farm. In addition to that, it appears as though he loves to work hard. Even after the doctor advised Anton not do any strenuous work in the fields, the protagonist still asked Dr. Burleigh if he could be allowed to shell corn. The doctor immediately turned down his request. Rosicky s question reveals that he is reluctant to give up his farm work. It, therefore, suggests that he enjoys the work of being a farmer. Anton Rosicky is also a hospitable individual. This is demonstrated by the following lines: He [that is, Dr. Burleigh] did not know another farm house where a man could get such a warm welcome, and such good strong coffee with rich cream (Cather, 1928, p. 3). The above lines indicate that Rosicky would go beyond what was expected of him to make his guests stay at him home comfortable. Furthermore, it appears as if the welcoming or inviting attitude that Rosicky had was transferred to the rest of his household. For example, the narrator describes how the long table , which was prepared by Anton s wife and daughter, was covered with a bright oilcloth , and also set out with dishes waiting for the doctor (Cather, 1928, p. 3). Anton s wife also made the kitchen full of the smell of coffee , hot biscuit , and sausage (Cather, 1928, p. 3). Moreover, Anton s sons took Dr. Burleigh s fur coat from off his back before hanging it up and helped to put his horse away (Cather, 1928, p. 3). It can be said that BABYLON REVISITED AND NEIGHBOR ROSICKY 3 Anton s warmth and hospitality was so sincere that it inspired the other family members to behave in the same way. • 46. Examples Of Masculinity In Macbeth Manipulation, the act of controlling something or someone, is prevalent in all societies and drives the plot of Macbeth. Shakespeare s play, Macbeth, is about a loyal soldier who commits horrible atrocities to become king, only to be defeated in the end. Throughout the play, male characters are influenced into doing awful acts, which they would not normally have thought to do, after having their manliness questioned. They strive to match the stereotype of an aggressive and dominant man. In Macbeth, Shakespeare reveals that men are manipulated into accomplishing violent deeds in an attempt to live up to the definition of masculinity through his portrayal of male character. Shakespeare allows Macbeth to be manipulated into violent deeds, such as killing King Duncan, after Lady Macbeth criticizes the fragility of Macbeth s masculinity. Lady Macbeth attacks Macbeth s manliness when she exclaims, when you durst do it, then you were a man; and be more than what you were, you would be so much more the man (1.7.56 58). • 47. Fuller s Business Ethics Ethics and Responsibilities go hand in hand. With businesses that develop products for the public, the decision making process is crucial. Before one can make a judgement for what is right and wrong, one must understand to a degree the consequences of those actions. Businesses have responsibilities for the product they manufacture and distribute, but how much responsibility is too much. In this perspective, we will examine the ethical implications of product manufacturing of Product Quality, Pricing, and Labeling and Packaging. With Product Quality, the responsibilities of a business are simple. Develop a low cost, high quality product that withstands the normal limitations of it s use. Quality can be defined as doing the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This would violate the standard of product quality, which is to create a high quality, low costing product as mentioned earlier. To further illustrate, Fuller s Company provides industrial glues, coatings, and paints. If a consumer buys an industrial glue, and it does not work as effectively due to the addition to the noxious oil, this is an example of doing the wrong thing. On the other hand, if the glue works as promised, but the consumer gets sick while using the product the correct way, this is an example of the right thing, done the wrong way. Lastly, if the glue holds for some, and does not for others, then the company has failed to do the right thing, the first time, and every time. This would make this product one of poor quality, and that is unethical. Companies can avoid unintentionally creating poor quality products, and create a peace of mind with their consumers with the use of warranties. Warranties are obligations to purchasers that sellers assume. (Shaw, 226) The two types of warranties include express, and implied warranties. Express Warranties are specific promises made by a seller, whether orally, or in print. These promises usually include a description of items, the assurance that the product will work as designed, and factual statements. Concerning case 4.3, an example of an express warranty ... CAPM requires that a market risk free rate, the market risk premium, and the beta for the company. The market risk premium (6%) and the company beta (1.1) is given directly and can be seen in tables 2 and 3 below. Government bonds are used for the risk free rate. Since 10 year corporate bonds are used for the cost of debt, the 10 year Treasury Bond of 5.60% will be selected as the risk free rate. The 10 year bonds are also a good match for the project duration, which is between 5 and 10 years. The cost of equity of 11.20% is than calculated as follows: With the cost of debt and the cost of equity calculated, the WACC is calculated below. The cost of debt is further discounted by one minus the tax rate since the interest paid on debt is treated as an expense prior to being taxed. Table 2: Interest Rates December 2006 Table 3: Company Financial Information Using the calculated WACC and the company s hurdle rate for this project, under Bob Prescott s cost savings and additional revenues assumption, the project s IRR is now greater than the hurdle rate.
