Emily Grierson Synthesis
In the short story A Rose for Emily by William Faulkner, there are many different ways that readers
could interpret the story. Some may choose to interpret the story through gender roles, ethnicity, or
even social class. The social class is the most important in this situation, all people are judged on what
social class they fit into. When born into a wealthy family, it is automatically assumed that those
people are higher up and better than others. There is more to a person than just the social class they
fall under. Emily Grierson was born into a wealthy, aristocratic family, so it only makes sense that
people think that she is better than everyone. She had a servant by the name of Tobe who helped her
with the chores around the household, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Women are all around treated differently than men, and especially in this time period. Emily was an
older woman that had never been without a dominant, male figure in her life. Her father and the ex
love of her life had always been there for her. This is when Homer Barron came into her life and she
realized that she never wanted to lose him. Even though Emily was eventually with Homer, that did
not mean she was lower in the social class because she was with a laborman. Emily was higher up in
the social system but people still did not know her for who she truly was. The rose of the story
symbolizes love. All Emily ever wanted was to love someone and to be loved by that same person, she
just wanted to be

Film Review Of The Movie Apollo 13 Movie Review
Released on June 30th, 1995 an extraordinary out breaking movie Apollo 13 hit the charts. Told from
a true story of the 13th Apollo mission bound for the moon or the most tragic NASA event , the movie
Apollo 13 is constructed off of the occurrences of an Apollo 13 lunar mission. It was directed by Ron
Howard and released in the United States in 1995. The amazing movie Apollo 13 was given an award
for the AMPAS, best picture, best film editing, and the best sound which were many accomplishments
for this film. This movie is definitely under the drama category as you will see after watching it.
In the movie, Tom Hanks plays astronaut Jim Lovell, Bill Paxton plays astronaut Fred Haise, and
Kevin Bacon plays astronaut Jack Swigert. These brave astronauts were originally supposed to fly
Apollo 14 but were changed to fly Apollo 13 and faced many situations that could have taken off of
their lives. Throughout Apollo 13 it displays the troubles behind the mission of this very dangerous
task at hand. There are problems with the mission controls and this causes near death incidents in the
space ship. As I watched this interesting and thrilling movie I discovered that the scientist was very
creative in their missions in space. In the end, an oxygen tank explodes causing the undertaking to be
shorter than intended and astronauts sacrificing their lives for Apollo 13 mission. Everyone was
questioning if they would ever return to earth efficiently and safely. There are many important

Small Pox History
Smallpox was once one of the most severe infectious diseases that was endemic throughout the world
for most of the recorded history. It is caused by variola virus (a DNA virus and a member of the
Poxviridae family), and characterized by three phases: incubation, prodrome and rash. This disease
killed and disfigured innumerable millions of people globally.
The origin of smallpox
The historians believe that smallpox appeared around 10 000 B.C. during the first agricultural
settlements in northeastern Africa. From there it spread to India by means of ancient Egyptian
merchants. Furthermore, observations of typical skin rashes on Egyptian mummies dating from 1100
to 1580 B.C. give credence to theories that ancient Egypt was an early region with endemic smallpox.

It is estimated that smallpox was introduced to Europe between the 5th and 7th centuries, with
frequent epidemics during the Middle Ages.
The disease was generally confined to the Eurasian landmass before the 15th century; however,
European colonists introduced smallpox to the Americas (but also Africa and Australia) between 15th
and 18th century with devastating case fatality rates that approached 90%. It is generally believed that
this was instrumental in the fall of the empires of the Aztecs and the Incas.
By the end of 19th century a milder and less lethal form of smallpox (also known as variola minor)
became apparent in the USA. Originally described as Amass (alastrim in South America), this variant
of the virus eventually got recognized in Brazil during the 1970s, as well as in Ethiopia and Somalia
during the 1970s.

Critically Evaluate The Link Between Good Governance And...
Critically evaluate the connection between good governance and peace.
I) Introduction
The question of what constitutes a good government has been a subject written about since the earliest
known time. In fact, in the western tradition, Plato wrote extensively on the question, most notably in
The Republic (Blackburn and Vance, 2007). He (in the voice of Socrates) asked if the purpose of
government was to help one s friends and hurt one s enemies, for example. Aristotle, Plato s student
picked up the subject in his treatise on Politics. Many centuries later, John Locke addressed the
question of abuse of power by writing on the importance of checks and balances to prevent or at least
constrain the abuse of power (Powell, 1996).

Finally, the third section
A final section discusses how the weaknesses of the good governance concept pose problems for one
of the most central claims in the policy literature, that good governance promotes economic
development.
II) Definitions and Historical Link Between Good Governance and Peace
The term good governance is perceived, in general as a normative principle of administrative law,
which obliges the State to perform its functions in a manner that promotes the values of efficiency,
non corruptibility, and responsiveness to civil society (Rosenau, 1997). It is therefore a principle that
is largely associated with statecraft. While the government is not obliged to substantively deliver any
public goods, it must ensure that the processes for the identification and delivery of such goods are
concrete in terms of being responsive to public demands, and respect for the principles of fairness,
justice, and equality, as well as the implementation of policies that are effective and efficient, in order
to promote the deeper human requisites of the citizenry (Henry, 2010, p. 3).The principles of good
governance have also been espoused in the context of the internal operations of private sector
organizations (Rae and Wong, 2004, p. 135; see also, Paris, R., 2004, p.

Gender Countertype In The Media
A stereotype is typically a negative assumption on an individual or social group. They are often
magnified opinions held by a range of people on teenagers, genders, belief and race. The binary
opposite to stereotypes are countertypes , an example of a countertype is that all young female girls
are pleasant and beautiful.
The media has always taught us that women belong in the kitchen, women can t handle a day s work
and that we live in a man s world because we as women, are weak, emotional house wives. On the
other hand, we are taught that men are the brave, stoical, hard working money makers. Thankfully,
due to many equality protests and the suffragette movement there has been a rise in feminism and
women support. Feminism is the process in which women s rights are influenced to the public to make
decisions on the equality of both males and females. The people who support feminism are known as
feminists. Jane Bailey wrote about women on stereotypes within social media and explains how it is a
platform for women to freely express themselves.
Gender stereotyping used to happen more often in the media than it does nowadays, this is for the
reason that in today s society is frowned upon and seen as inappropriate by a mass audience.
Advertising and magazines are a huge impact on people worldwide, so an advertisement featuring a
half naked woman with the headline Are you beach body ready? (2015) would cause an uproar for
many reasons. One of the reasons being that the

Essay on Physics of Bowling
Aside from being one of the most accessible (and best!) sports out there, many aspects of bowling can
be expressed with physics. Achieving maximum power, throwing a hook ball, and getting good pin
action can all be broken down into physics issues and represented with equations. I will cover four
aspects of bowling that can be explained with physics terms and show you how to use this knowledge
to optimize your game.
Gravitational Potential Energy
Depending on the height from which the bowler drops the bowling ball, the ball will have a certain
amount of potential energy. If the bowler bowls with a straight ball, the potential energy of the ball
will not affect their game very much. It will, however, draw attention to the bowler when ... Show
more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The horizontal kinetic energy that remains after the ball has traveled down the lane is the energy that
will be used to collide with the pins, so the bowler needs to make it count!
The magnitude of the forces exerted in the horizontal and vertical directions can be calculated using
trigonometry. The total magnitude of the force multiplied by the cosine of its angle with the horizon
will calculate the horizontal force. Conversely, the total magnitude of the force multiplied by the sine
of its angle with the horizon will calculate the vertical force.
Friction, Hook Balls, and Direction of Impact
When a bowler bowls with a hook ball, they are taking advantage of friction. A hook ball is when the
ball goes about two thirds of the way down the lane before curving into the pins. Don t bowl against
people who do this, they are usually very good. The lanes are oiled, producing a small coefficient of
kinetic friction. Therefore, it takes a long time and a lot of torque on the ball to cause it to curve into
the pins. The ball accelerates to the left or right as it catches what little friction it can.
The reason most good bowlers bowl with a hook ball boils down to the direction of the collision with
the pins. Throwing the ball straight down the lane, while easy to do, does not distribute the impact
efficiently. Once in a while a straight ball bowler will get lucky and put a

Figurative Language In Prophetic Literature
1)
The figurative language in prophetic literature, wisdom literature, and Lamentations all depict
feminine figures and characteristics. The prophetic literature consists of Amos, Hosea, Isiah, Jeremiah,
and Ezekiel. In these scriptures, the people of Israel are depicted as pitiless and loveless by naming the
Children of Hosea and Gomer Lo ruhamah and Lo ammi explaining them as children of whoredom .
This imagery is seen as Israel (Gomer) as a woman who has betrayed God (Hosea) through infidelity,
worshiping other Gods and procreating with other people in those religions. We see Israel as an
exposed woman for her iniquity (Hosea 2:3 9) a shaming for her transgressions as a bride. God casts
Israel out of the home for her disloyalty (Hosea ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Two metanarratives are seen in the Chronicles; the importance and redemption of repentance, and the
reoccurring theme throughout the old testament, exile and return. David is the model for repentance
but there is a new story of repentance not seen in the book of Kings, Manasseh. In 2 Chronicles 33:10
13 Manasseh repents for his foreign worship and more, by building an outer wall to protect the city of
David and removed false idols to restore the altars of YHWH. The repentance of Manasseh is
completely missing in the book of Kings. Exile and return are experienced in 2 Chronicles 36:11 21,
although kings may have repented (David, Solomon, and Manasseh) it is not implied that the people
of Israel have also (2 Chronicles 34:23 24) and therefore God lets His people return to exile. The holy
places are destroyed and desecrated while the Israelites are forced again into exile. Thankfully, exile is
always followed with return and restoration. King Cyrus acknowledges the Hebrew God and rebuilds
the temple and the Israelites are free from exile once

The Chinese New Year Essay
Chinese New Year is the most widely celebrated tradition in Asia. The tradition is usually celebrated
on the first day of the first month on the Chinese Lunar calendar. This tradition is rooted in centuries
old customs and is one of the most popular public holidays in China. Apart from China, this tradition
is also celebrated in many Asian countries like Korea, Taiwan, Vietnam, Singapore, Malaysia, and
Japan. There are many values and rituals tied with this tradition. For example, people would wear red
clothing, decorate the house with red paper, and give children lucky money in red envelopes.
According to legend, it is said that red can drive away bad luck, which is why the color red is highly
emphasized. In myths, our ancestors would ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According a popular myth, the origin of this day lies in the fight against Nian, a beast in Chinese
mythology. The beast would visit cities and eat cattle, crops, and even people. In order for families to
protect themselves from the beast, they would place food at their doorsteps so that the beast would not
harm them. One day during a family dinner, the family noticed how the beast was startled by seeing
the color red. Word of this spread to other friends and family. Soon, from then on, on the first day of
every New Year, people would hang red paper lanterns and other red objects to scare off the beast.
They would also light bamboo stalks in order to scare the beast away. After some time, the beast stop
coming to the city all together. However, by this time relatives and family had already adopted the
habit of getting together to protect each other from the beast.
Looking back at ancient civilization, fireworks, elaborate performances, or decorations had not been
invented or developed. These rituals that are associated with the tradition today were added
throughout the years. It was because of time that people started incorporating ideas that were added on
along with the festival. Therefore you were lucky and fortunate to spend Chinese New Year with

The Crucial Role of Native Americans Essays
For the better part of American history, the Indians have been viewed and portrayed as dimwitted,
helpless victims that aimlessly stood by while the Europeans conquered their land, but this view has
recently come under fire and has been overturned, as it was determined to be misleading and
inaccurate. Two historians that have questioned the legitimacy of past beliefs regarding the Indians are
Charles Mann and James Axtell. Each has made it plainly clear in their articles that the actions of
Indians should no longer be treated as useless footnotes on the pages of history. While their articles are
on seemingly different subjects, their views and beliefs on the importance of Indians in American
history are incontrovertibly the same as both ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Tisquantum was using the oblivious Europeans for his own means, and although he never achieved his
goals, it is worth pointing out that he had ulterior motives for aiding the Pilgrims in their time of need.
Mann does a good job of supporting his opinion and showing that Indians were not just aloof and
passive but conniving and manipulative like their European counterparts. Unfortunately, in the end all
the planning and trickery in the world couldn t have saved the Indians as they were just simply
outnumbered and technologically inferior to the Europeans. James Axtell wrote the article entitled,
Colonial America Without the Indians and it goes into extreme detail to pinpoint the impact that the
Indians had on American history. Axtell picks out important events that irrefutably made the U.S. the
country it is today and shows what may have happened had the Indians not been in existence. For
example, America may not have been settled as quickly if not for the Indians because explorers
wouldn t have known of the hidden gold and silver deposits, many early settlements would likely have
failed without knowledge and support from the Indians, and guerilla warfare was practically taught to
the Americans by the Indians and became a central piece in the winning of the American Revolution.
Most importantly, however, contact with the Indians helped Americanize the settlers. It was the
changes in the European culture brought on by the Indians

Examples Of Structuralism In I Wandered Lonely As A Cloud
I am putting to use a structuralist view upon the poem I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud because it can be
related to with simpleness, put down to the fact that it is positioned in the lyrical genre. Structuralism
is a theory in which all elements of human culture are thought to be part of a system of signs. Robert
Scholes demarcated structuralism as a reaction towards despair and modernism (Scholes, Robert.
Structuralism in Literature: An Introduction, 1975). I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud is a poem that
commemorates the utmost beauty of nature to such a degree that the poet believes it to be ... Show

As previously stated, structuralism is a theory in which all elements of human culture are thought to
be part of a system of signs. Structuralists are concerned with issues such as form and genre. The
reason why I chose to apply a structuralist perspective upon William Wordsworth s poem is due to the
fact that that it can be easily interacted with because it is positioned in the lyrical genre. The rhyming
scheme is in the form ABABCC. The rhyming couplet evident at the end of each stanza creates an
unpretentious break caused by the addition of a new stanza. As a result, the final line of teach stanza
contains an additional sense of emphasis. The final line of the poem mentions the show and conveys
images of dancing daffodils, a long lasting impression discussed by Wordsworth. The meter of this
poem is an iambic tetrameter. The meter creates a rhythm with a musical, song like quality, to which
the daffodils may dance. Wordsworth also employs consonance and alliteration to create the sense of
rhythm. The form of a poem is of utmost importance to structuralist critics. I Wandered Lonely as a
Cloud is twenty four lines long and it features four stanzas with six lines each. In each individual
stanza there is a perceptible pattern the first line rhymes with the third line and the second line rhymes
with the fourth line. The stanzas finish with the inclusion of a rhyming couplet. By concentrating the
first three stanzas on the lake experience and the final on the memory of that experience, Wordsworth
amalgamates the content of the poem. It is interesting to note that despite the obvious fact that I
Wandered Lonely as a Cloud is built as a sonnet although it is a lyrical poem. Wordsworth employs
figurative language such as comparisons, personification, epithets and metaphors so as to express his
feelings to the reader. As a sub genre, I Wandered Lonely as

North Korean Political Policies On North Korea
Introduction
Beginning in the early 1940 s, Korea has been a split nation; the great divide that happened in initially
in 1945 was just the beginning of what would become one of the world s most infamous splits of a
country. Radically different in political regime and agenda, these countries provide for a very complex
case study of border conflict. Due to its extremely repressive regime, North Korea stands as one of the
worst places to call home in the world, while South Korea is incredibly more liberal. Despite the
inescapable amounts of propaganda imposed on the citizens of North Korea, the current generations of
North Koreans hold ties to South Korea through separated family, making South Korea a very
attractive but forbidden land. While South Korea continues to center its foreign policy on loosening
the strict rule of the North Korean government, North Korea remains stubborn and the struggle
remains in tow with the stark differentiation between ideologies politically, militarily, and culturally.
History of Korea
In the mid 10th century, the Silla regime was overtaken by the Goryea regime in what is today Korea
when it was one land, and one people. The name Korea was directly derived from the pronunciation of
the Goryea. (Shelley, 500). The first separation of the territory of Korea came after World War II
ended, and the Soviets occupied the Northern portion of Korea, while the Americans occupied the
Southern portion. This separation was never actually intended to

Connections Report 1.8 Connections
The theme of love connection between people is a very important part of life. I choose this theme as it
is a very relevant and relatable subject for many people in our society. The four texts I chose were: the
fictional novel Delirium , by Lauren Oliver, the song Blank Space by Taylor Swift, song Same Love
by Macklemore and fictional novel Girl Online , by Zoe Sugg. There was a strong connection of love
between two people in all of these texts.
The first text that I looked at that showed the connection of love was Delirium. This novel discusses
the connection of love. Love is the main theme of this novel. The main character ... Show more

This song is about the struggles society creates for people identifying as a homosexual and discusses
equality and discrimination of people that like the same sex. Macklemore was driven to write this song
because of the issue of equal marriage right and the use of gay as degrading word in society and in the
hip hop industry. He wanted to set an example for others in the music industry, and help change the
stereotypes of homosexuality. As Macklemore writes in his song a bunch of stereotypes all in my head
this shows that society riddles our brains into thinking that it isn t alright to be gay, when really it is.
These stereotypes make it hard for people to feel accepted about their sexuality. This song discusses
how gay is used in an insultive way as quoted in the lyrics; If I was gay I would think hip hop hates
me, Have you read the YouTube comments lately, Man that s gay Gets dropped on the daily, We ve
become so numb to what we re sayin These examples show the connection of love, but in a different
way to what we would usually expect. This song has a different view on the connection of love
compared to other books with the theme of love, as it is about homosexuality rather than
heterosexuality. In my opinion I think what Macklemore is trying to convey is very smart, and I
believe that there should be equality on who you love. I also thing that the words such as gay shouldn t
be used with such negative connotations, and I m sure many others in our society would

Analysis of Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas by Hunter S....
Literature is considered a mirror of the society. The pool of content in literary writing stems from the
environment in which the writer is placed. A writer will use this environment to advance his/her views
of the society and at the same time drive into the audience/readers important information that he/she
wishes to pass. Hunter S. Thompson has used his creativity in the novel Fear and Loathing in Las
Vegas written in the 1960s to reflect on American society with Las Vegas as the point of reference.
Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas describes the American society as hypocritical. This transcends from
the leaders to citizens. The Duke and Gonzo attend a conference on Narcotics and dangerous drugs.
The theme of the conference is slated as an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, the dream is a dying one which has not materialized because of the society s greed,
selfishness and corruption as depicted in Fear and Loathing in Vegas by Thomson. Drug business,
prostitution and gambling have replaced legal businesses in Las Vegas. Law forces have been tangled
up in this game as they watch this acts being committed for a few pennies from the dealers. The
picture of a crowd of Las Vegas residence in a casino at early hours of the morning gives more
dimensions to the American dream. Emerging from a casino having won seems to epitomize what the
society feels about the American dream
Consumerism has been embraced in Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. This is well brought out by the
two protagonists in the novel. The lifestyle of the Duke and his attorney on the journey to Las Vegas is
characterized by heavy spending on drugs, accommodation, transportation and gambling. The writer
says they had bought two bags of grass, seventy five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high powered
blotter acid, a salt shaker half full of cocaine, and a whole galaxy of multi colored uppers, downers,
screamers, laughers and also a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of Budweiser, a pint of raw ether
and two dozen amyls. This were hefty expenses which the writer goes ahead to acknowledge that they
did not actually need bur for the fun of it.
Lastly, Fear and Loathing Las Vegas reveals racist nature of the American military and the decay

about back in basic training. The mall was mine.
Roaming the mall I was stopped by an older man with a crew cut hairstyle. His name was Mike and
his words flowed out like a commander. He asked me about myself and what brought me to the mall.
With great excitement, I told him my tail and in return, he told me his. He lured me into a state of
security by letting me know he used to be in the Army and commanded many soldiers like me. He told
me he loved his new job because he helped a lot of the new soldiers furnish their empty spaces. He

Mike asked me to pick out all the items I could afford that day, so I did. I had picked out an Xbox 360

Rite of Passage Ceremony
RITE OF PASSAGE
It is three days before my initiation ceremony. The day Mama says I become a woman. She is really
happy about it and I m supposed to be, but I m not. I have tried to delay this day for as long as
possible, but this year Papa put his foot down. I am already 17 years old and most girls go through the
ceremony at 14. All the girls in my age group have to go through this rite in order to make them
eligible for marriage. No woman in the village can get married without undergoing the rite of passage.
It is part of our tradition and the elders believe it ensures women do not stray from their marital
homes. They also believe you are unclean without it. People were already starting to whisper about me
as I was the last girl in my age group who not gone through it and my friends tease and look down on
me that I am not yet a woman.
My younger brother, Dide cannot be initiated into the Warrior class because he has an older sister who
is uncircumcised. This is the real reason Papa has refused to listen to me any longer. Dide has come of
age and he doesn t want me to delay his initiation. After my initiation ceremony, I would be getting
married. Papa has already someone picked out. I ve seen him a couple of times, my friends think I m
lucky to be getting married into his family. I don t think anything. Going through the initiation
ceremony and getting married would be the end of schooling for me. I know what is expected of me as

important figurative devices within the poem and an extrapolation of the taught poem migrant hostel
which also explores the idea of belonging. Firstly, how the poem relates to belonging. The poem
Drifters represents belonging by the family not being able to settle as they keep on moving houses and
communities. Belonging to a place is linked to belonging in a family. Everyone in this family is
affected by the father s decision to relocate. To belong in this family, movement is required, despite
individual desires. Family members often have to compromise or sacrifice what they want in order to
belong in their family. Some members request to establish a permanent sense of home while others

This shows that the family is not in a place long enough to be able to grow a healthy crop. These
berries represent the family as they also appear to be happy at the start of the poem as they were
settled in their home, loving life however after the father announces that they would be moving,
turned into shrivelled fruit as they are thought to be sad and unhappy due to their constant movements.

Ethics Standards And The Field Of Accounting
Professional ethics are an absolute necessity in the field of accounting. Businesses rely on accountants
to accurately report their financial information and give sound advise and consultation in regards to
their business. There are standards and rules set in place to ensure that ethics and information is
reported accurately. Laws and repercussions are created place to deter unethical and illegal accounting
practices, although it still occurs in the business world on many levels. The field of accounting has a
code of ethics for very important reasons. Investors and creditors need assurance that the financials of
the company they are investing in are accurate. If the financials of a company are not created
accurately or if the information is falsified and inaccurate, investors and creditors have the potential to
lose lots of money. Ethics standards and controls have increased in more recent years due to a number

The Popularity Of Tea During The Tang And Song Eras Of China
On the topic of world beverages, there is none such as ubiquitous as tea. Within history, tea has played
a large role in many monumental world events, from the American Revolution to the Opium Wars.
Though the origin of this bitter, fragrant juice is uncertain, it is known that tea cultivation is rooted in
China. Though tea had been known and consumed prior, it was not until the Tang dynasty that a level
of artistry surrounded tea was achieved. By the Tang dynasty and up through the Song, tea had
developed a rather contradictory identity. To tea purists such as Lu Yu, tea was an almost spiritual art,
closely related to the ideals of Buddhism, to be savored individually in a quest for enlightenment. To
many others, tea was a commercial and social drink, the facilitator of social gatherings and a luxury
indicator of social rank. This paper will explore the development of these contrasting identities
through the unprecedented expansion of the popularity of tea during the Tang and Song eras of China,
and its relationship with poetry, religion, and social conventions.
Moderation is the very essence of tea. Tea does not lend itself to extravagance. Thus is said about tea
by Lu Yu, the Tang dynasty author of the groundbreaking work ambitiously titled The Classic of Tea.
One cannot understand the mindset surrounding tea during the Tang dynasty without knowledge of
this monumental work. Lu Yu s role in spreading tea culture throughout the Tang dynasty was vast to
the extent that

Marxism As A Conflict Theory
Marxism is a conflict theory based on the idea that society is in conflict with each other; the conflict is
between the rich and the poor ( A Brief Introduction to Marxism ). The basic tenets of Marx s theory
rest on the conflict between the different classes of society of which, Marx states that the ideas of the
ruling class are in every epoch the ruling ideas: i.e.,the class which is the ruling material force of
society is at the same time its ruling intellectual force. The class which has the means for material
production at its disposal have control at the same time over the means of material production, so that
...generally speaking, the ideas of those who lack the means of mental and [material] production are

The tenets of Marxism as defined by Marx and Althusser provide a unique lens through which the
reader can view Joseph Conrad s Heart of Darkness. Conrad s novella portrays the historical era of
Imperialism, when European countries, Great Britain included, were laying claim to parts of the
African continent for its riches in natural resources. The idea that Imperialism was the highest stage of
capitalism , expressed by Vladimir Lenin, a proponent of Marxism, adds an important layer to a study
of the novella using Marxist theory (Marxism: Essential Writings).
A look at one small scene from Section III of the novel, in which the young Russian speaks about
Kurtz to Marlowe, blatantly illustrates the treatment of the workforce by the ruling class:
He had, as he informed me proudly, managed to nurse Kurtz through two illnesses (he alluded to it as
you would to some risky feat), but as a rule Kurtz wandered alone, far in the depths of the forest. Very
often coming to this station, I had to wait days and days before he would turn up, he said. Ah, it was
worth waiting for! sometimes. What was he doing? exploring or what? I asked. Oh yes, of course; he
had discovered lots of villages, a lake too he did not know exactly in what direction; it was dangerous
to inquire too much but mostly his expeditions had been for ivory. But he

There are two basic principles that a system can be approached by; the continuous matter or modular
approach and the discrete matter or lumped mass approach (Holroyd, 2007). Generally, when a mass
can be defined as a rigid body or, in other words, when a system have a finite number of degrees of
freedom, it is more efficient to be modeled as a discrete (lumped parameter system). On the other
hand, when a mass is non uniform or, in other words, when a system have an infinite number of
degrees of freedom (e.g. because it includes continuous elastic members), it is best to be modeled as a
continuous (distributed parameter system). Furthermore, there are hybrid models which combine
lumped and distributed parameters and provide more realistic ... Show more content on

However, the behaviour and interaction of individual components of an electromechanical system is
not possible to be examined with lumped parameter models. Finally, lumped parameter models require
modifications in their whole lumped model when changes in any system component occur. As already
mentioned, distributed (modularized) models are solved by a set of partial differential equations due to
all the dependent variables consist of more than one independent variable. However, these equations
can be homogeneous or non homogenous (inhomogeneous) equations. In practice, the solution of a
homogeneous equation with the appropriate boundary conditions illustrates the behavior of the system
after it has been properly set in motion and then subject to no further force. In addition to this, the
solution depicts the trend of the system to vibrate at a number of natural frequencies. On the contrary,
the solution of a non homogeneous equation depicts the behavior of the system to specific forces
(Holroyd, 2007). The forced damped method can be used for solving the non homogeneous equation
of motion. According to this method, the steady state response to exciting forces is calculated by
transfer matrices. Moreover, this method uses fewer elements than the lumped mass approach in order
to create a realistic model. This method contains terms which are dependent on frequency, thus it
requires the

Understand person centred approaches in adult social care settings.
Outcome 1
Understand person centred approaches in adult social care
1. Describe person centred approaches.
Person centred is about providing care and support that is centred or focused on the individual and
their needs. We are all individuals and just because two people might have the same medical
condition, for example, dementia, it doesn t mean that they require the same care or support because
they are two different people which means their needs will be different. You need to develop a clear
understanding about the individuals that you are working with and their needs, culture, means of

Social support or to maintain contact with family and friends. In general people are sociable, we will
attempt to relate to other people and develop a relationship with them. Sometimes people will need
support in relating to others this can be for a range of reasons such as, illness if social circumstances
may of meant that someone has lost contact with other people such as their family and friends, other
may have issues in making relationship and some may have had difficult or painful experiences which
have made them wary of becoming involved with others.
Outcome 2
Understand how to implement a person centred approach in an adult social care setting.
1. Explain how finding out the history, preferences, wishes, and needs of an individual contributes to
their care plan.
Finding out the history, preferences, wishes and needs of an individual will contribute to their care
plan, you would do this by asking and talking to the person concerned, or if they were unable to tell
you this information, you could speak with their family. Ask the individual about their life, and what
they used to work as etc, if they are able to tell you all of this, then you will learn a great deal about
them and this will help you to offer support to them in the most appropriate ways. Residents can often

The Evolution Of Monogamy In Mammals
The evolution of monogamy in mammals has been challenging to understand for ecologists for many
years, because in most cases male mammals are thought to have higher fitness through polygamous
mating. One of the principles of evolution is that animals want to maximize their reproductive success,
so two animals committing to one another kind of seems counter intuitive. Animals want to pass on
their genes to the next generation, and having more offspring means there s a higher chance of
survival. When females have long lactation periods or gestation, they are unable to mate during this
time, so it would seem to be advantageous for the male to move on to their next mate. In a biology
context, monogamy is when one male mates to one female forming an exclusive bond. Research
shows that approximately 3 5% of mammals are considered monogamous compared to about 90% of
birds and out of a total of 4,000 mammalian species (Munshi South). Birds seem to be extremely
monogamous because both male and female birds actively participate in the growth of their
hatchlings. The equitable division of the labor gives the male bird more of a reason to stick around
(Munshi South).
Although most mammals are not monogamous why do some of them exhibit this behavior? We could
address this question by looking at different examples of monogamous mammals and what genetic
and environmental factors could have influenced this behavior. We can also look at what hormones
could be involved in pair bonding

traveling. Today, I am here to tell you about the stresses and joys of planning a trip abroad; from
planning what your destination/s will be to planning your outfits for the trip, I will try to cover
everything that you can possible need to know. The first thing you need to do when thinking of
traveling abroad is getting all the details planned or at least think them out. You need to figure out
your main destination, you can later add on other destinations but you should know where you want to

Big Brother And Technology Essay
Everyday technology is advancing and has become part of people s everyday life, from phones, cars,
computers, and even the light switches in a room. With all this technology, it would be easy to use it
for other things then what they were intended for. For example what if someone wanted to control
what another person could do such as sleeping or going places. It would not not be that hard to try and
control another human being, or even worse being watched every single moment of everyday for the
rest of their life. That idea is not as farfetched as it may seem now with even more phones, computers,
televisions and cameras in general. Technology is taking humanity nearer and nearer to world of Big

televisions that have functions such as a camera and video usages. Companies that create these

The Ladies Home Journal
As I analyzed three different issues of the Ladies Home Journal that were published in 1960, I was
able to gain a deeper understanding of how women were perceived during the year in which my
mother was born into. Since the magazine was mainly targeted towards housewives, it included
features on marriage, beauty, fashion, food, and interior decoration. The messages perpetuated by the
advertisers, news writers, and fictions writers would often contradict each other and sometimes agree.
The publications would try to influence women s marriage life, the way they looked, what they should
eat, and how they should care for their families. Marriage and beauty were two of the most important
things in a woman s life according to the magazine.
The importance of age and experience was a recurring theme throughout the issues and it was implied
that youth and inexperience would lead to an unhappy marriage. In the February issue of the Ladies
Home Journal, an article talked about a couple that got married during their senior year of college and
were experiencing many complications in their marriage. The counselor who interviewed the couple
believed that the reason for their troubles was because they had gotten married too early. A woman
would need to know how to cook and clean, take care of a child, and satisfy the needs of her husband
if she wanted a happy marriage . Similarly, in the July issue, an article listed influential people over

Physics of Pinball Essay
Physics of Pinball
Pinball is a fast pace game of physics and skill. With the knowledge of the mechanics and the physics
of how the game works it can be played more effectively. Friction, gravity, potential energy, kinetic
energy, circuits and momentum are just a few of the aspects of physics apply.
The first thing to do to start a game of pinball is to insert the coin. This alone requires many
fundamental aspects of physics. The player inserts the coin and lets gravity take over. Gravity
accelerates the coin to a certain speed in a specific direction or what is called velocity. The coin, which
has mass, is now moving at a certain velocity. The coin now has linear momentum. To find the
momentum of the coin we would take the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The player has now compressed the spring in the ball shooter. The ball sitting in the ball shooter is at
rest. It will be at rest until acted on by an unbalanced force. This is Newton s first law of motion, the
law of inertia (Kirkpatrick and Wheeler p31). The ball shooter is then released the spring
decompresses and strikes the ball sending it up the incline to the top of the pinball playing field. The
strike on the ball is called the impulse. The time interval it takes for the ball momentum to change.
Since the ball has no momentum because it has zero velocity the ball shooter transfers its momentum
at the impulse (The Ball Shooter 2003). This also takes place in the time frame of about a second.
The ball now has kinetic energy. Kinetic energy like momentum in that it comes from the mass of the
object and its velocity. Kinetic energy was transferred from the plunger to the ball just like momentum
was but only if the collision was elastic. During and elastic collision kinetic energy is conserved. The
balls kinetic energy is half of its momentum squared. This means the balls momentum is its mass
multiplied by velocity, and then it is squared and divided by two. If the velocity or speed of the ball is
reduced by one half then the overall kinetic energy is reduced by a factor of four (Kirkpatrick and
Wheeler p.106)
The ball uses this kinetic energy to move up the usually 6 to 7 degree incline to the top of the playing
field. The kinetic

Treasure Island, Captain Blood, And We Are Pirates

important thread of continuity has remained which runs throughout the numerous stories of the pirate

of the pirate genres protagonists to precariously balance their boyish actions with bravery are

Satire In Wizard Of Oz And A Modest Proposal
Satire has been a part of literature as long as there has been chaos in the world. Two of the most
famous satire pieces are The Wizard of Oz by L. Frank Baum and A Modest Proposal by Jonathan

a tornado blows her away. She immediately wants to leave and return to her home in Kansas. She
starts a journey to meet the Wizard of Oz who can supposedly grant her wish. Along the way she
meets several friends who want The Wizard to fix their problems as well. One of the infamous
characters was the Scarecrow. While resting on their travels to the Emerald City, Scarecrow asks
Dorothy why she wishes to return home when Oz is so beautiful. She replies with
No matter how dreary and gray our homes are, we people of flesh and blood would rather live there
than in any other country, be it ever so beautiful. There is no place like home. (Baum, Chapter 4)

Gender Is Not As Cut And Dry As You Might Think
Sir! Sir! Do you realize this is the ladies room? The concept of gender is not as cut and dry as you

more of a predetermined set of ideas and characteristics used in identifying socially acceptable
behaviors and appearances for the sexes. It is not determined by the biological sex of the person. From
an early age we begin to develop ideas of what it means to be male or female by observing others.

it still poses a problems for some on a daily basis. Gender expression is one area where women have a

a man to dress feminine; although neither are without predigests. Using a public restrooms seems like
a simple task to the majority of us. This is not the case for people who fall outside the gender norm.
Seldom does one have a choice beyond boy s room or girl s room. This can be a very stressful

Something as simple as going to the restroom in the mall could lead to a violent encounter. This would

Use Of Force And The Police Force Essay
The Use of Police Force
Police encounter different situations in their daily activities. The diverse nature of the circumstances
implies that the members of the police also have to adopt different strategies of handling them. In
some circumstances, the police have to use force as a way of addressing the situations. Unfortunately,
when the police apply their own discretion in the use of force, the outcomes of this approach may end
in fatalities or serious injuries. In recent times, diverse opinions have emerged in relation to the use of
discretionary force. In some quarters, the use of discretionary force has been hailed as beneficial while
in other case such as the 2008 Shooting of Tyler Cassidy, concerns have been applied concerning the
appropriateness of the strategy. Against this backdrop, this essay examines whether the police use of
force is a necessary component of the job and describes the benefits and limitations connected to the
discretionary use of force by the police.
A striking aspect that differentiates the profession of policing from other forms of professions entails
the legal authority bestowed upon the police to use force should situations call for it (Greenfeld 2012).
According to 2009 Victorian police data, the situations involving the use of force was encountered in
every 2.5 hours and for every 49hours, there was a critical incident related to the use of force by police

Also Gerry Adams, a leader of Sinn Fein is believed (by Unionists) to have close connections with the
IRA. There are very recently problems with area boundaries. In September 2001, Catholic families
were walking to school through a Protestant area. This caused problems for Protestants as they couldn
t see a need for them to walk through their area, especially as they claim the same Catholics vandalise
their properties. Throughout these recent events we can see why it has been difficult to bring peace to
Northern Ireland.
One reason for the obstacles in bringing peace is religion. Although the main argument is between
Nationalists and Unionists, Nationalists are mainly Catholic and Unionists are mainly Protestant.
Throughout history there has been an altercation between Protestants and Catholics in Ireland. I think
this began because in the 17th Century, both Elizabeth I and James I gave English Protestants Irish
Catholic rebel s land to increase the security in England. These Catholics did not like this because they
felt the land was rightfully theirs. They refused to accept that the land belonged to the English
Protestants. Catholics not only hated the Protestants for this but they resented British rule because it
was them that gave the Protestants the land.

Detecting Autism In Toddlers
Abstract
This paper considers the problem of detecting autism in toddlers at an age early enough to allow for
timely intervention. It begins with an overview of Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASDs) and explains
the importance of early screening for such disorders. It then outlines a range of possible screening
techniques, before focusing on the most prominent of these, the Modified Checklist for Autism in
Toddlers (M CHAT). The paper explains the origins of M CHAT, how it works, and what its results
have been so far. It also considers an important question guiding contemporary research on M CHAT,
namely the appropriate age range at which M CHAT is to be administered. The paper concludes with a
consideration of the limitations of research into ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
(2001) as a means of improving upon the earlier CHAT, both in terms of sensitivity and practicality. It
aims to detect ASDs early in toddlers and utilizes a parental questionnaire involving twenty three
questions, six of which are designated as critical. The latter refer to protodeclarative pointing,
response to name, interest in peers, bringing things to show a parent, following a point, and imitation
(Robins et al. 2001). In order to mitigate against false positives, M CHAT requires the practitioner to
contact parents in the case of positive screenings and to get them to verify their answers during a
follow up interview. A positive screen occurs in one of two cases: either if responses to any two of the
six critical questions indicate abnormal developmental progress, or if any three of the twenty three
questions indicate the same. Because of the relatively simple questionnaire format, which only takes
around five to ten minutes to complete, it is possible to administer the M CHAT screen by telephone if

Dear Reader, If you have gotten this far in my essay, I give you my thanks for reading the whole thing.
However most of these facts are true if not all. I give my apologies if some are wrong. Although I
chose many websites to find these facts and subdued the ones I wasn t sure were true, There are three
problems to this, the age of the website, the reliability of the website and comprehension or the reader
researching from the website. And albeit I used Google, a highly reliable search engine, there may be
a chink in the armor, if so, sorry.

Using Photo Sharing From A Global Community Of Over 300...
What started out as a fairly simple, easy to use photo sharing app used by a small group of people has
exploded into a global community of over 300 million active users. An amazing 70 million photos and
videos a day are now shared on Instagram by both consumers and brands.
With that many users and activity it not surprising that Instagram is been used daily by savvy
marketers to build brand awareness and drive targeted traffic to their websites.
Brand engagements on Instagram are actually higher than any other social platform including
Facebook and Twitter, in fact in a recent study Socialbakers compared the top 25 brands on Instagram
with the top 25 on Twitter and uncovered that engagement rates were almost 50% higher on Instagram

Have a strategy The photos and video content you add to Instgram should be a reflection of your
brand. Ensure your content expresses a clearly defined personality and voice and that it is engaging to
your followers.
Make Use Of Hashtags
7. Be sure to include hashtags Hashtags on Instagram are an important way to increase the reach of the
content you post. You can use either existing hashtags that your community is already using to reach
more people or even create new hashtags that could benefit your overall social media strategy.
8. Make use of brand specific hashtags it is a good idea to make a hashtag from your business name.
Also, using unique tags for specific marketing campaigns you run. For instance, if you are running a
photo contest on Instagram, make a unique tag just for that campaign. This hashtag promotes not only
your contest but allows other Instagram users to connect with other participants in the competition
Here is how Coca Cola recently used a specific hashtag to engage with their instagram community.
[COKE
8. Include general hashtags Using general hashtags will open your brand up to a larger audience who
follow specific products or lifestyle content on Instagram. So for example if your business is a flower
shop, and you post an image of a beautiful arrangement be sure to include tags like #flowers

  • 2. Emily Grierson Synthesis In the short story A Rose for Emily by William Faulkner, there are many different ways that readers could interpret the story. Some may choose to interpret the story through gender roles, ethnicity, or even social class. The social class is the most important in this situation, all people are judged on what social class they fit into. When born into a wealthy family, it is automatically assumed that those people are higher up and better than others. There is more to a person than just the social class they fall under. Emily Grierson was born into a wealthy, aristocratic family, so it only makes sense that people think that she is better than everyone. She had a servant by the name of Tobe who helped her with the chores around the household, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Women are all around treated differently than men, and especially in this time period. Emily was an older woman that had never been without a dominant, male figure in her life. Her father and the ex love of her life had always been there for her. This is when Homer Barron came into her life and she realized that she never wanted to lose him. Even though Emily was eventually with Homer, that did not mean she was lower in the social class because she was with a laborman. • 4. Small Pox History Smallpox was once one of the most severe infectious diseases that was endemic throughout the world for most of the recorded history. It is caused by variola virus (a DNA virus and a member of the Poxviridae family), and characterized by three phases: incubation, prodrome and rash. This disease killed and disfigured innumerable millions of people globally. The origin of smallpox The historians believe that smallpox appeared around 10 000 B.C. during the first agricultural settlements in northeastern Africa. From there it spread to India by means of ancient Egyptian merchants. Furthermore, observations of typical skin rashes on Egyptian mummies dating from 1100 to 1580 B.C. give credence to theories that ancient Egypt was an early region with endemic smallpox. ... • 5. Critically Evaluate The Link Between Good Governance And... Critically evaluate the connection between good governance and peace. I) Introduction The question of what constitutes a good government has been a subject written about since the earliest known time. In fact, in the western tradition, Plato wrote extensively on the question, most notably in The Republic (Blackburn and Vance, 2007). He (in the voice of Socrates) asked if the purpose of government was to help one s friends and hurt one s enemies, for example. Aristotle, Plato s student picked up the subject in his treatise on Politics. Many centuries later, John Locke addressed the question of abuse of power by writing on the importance of checks and balances to prevent or at least constrain the abuse of power (Powell, 1996). Finally, the third section A final section discusses how the weaknesses of the good governance concept pose problems for one of the most central claims in the policy literature, that good governance promotes economic development. II) Definitions and Historical Link Between Good Governance and Peace The term good governance is perceived, in general as a normative principle of administrative law, which obliges the State to perform its functions in a manner that promotes the values of efficiency, non corruptibility, and responsiveness to civil society (Rosenau, 1997). It is therefore a principle that is largely associated with statecraft. While the government is not obliged to substantively deliver any public goods, it must ensure that the processes for the identification and delivery of such goods are concrete in terms of being responsive to public demands, and respect for the principles of fairness, justice, and equality, as well as the implementation of policies that are effective and efficient, in order to promote the deeper human requisites of the citizenry (Henry, 2010, p. 3).The principles of good governance have also been espoused in the context of the internal operations of private sector organizations (Rae and Wong, 2004, p. 135; see also, Paris, R., 2004, p. ... They are often magnified opinions held by a range of people on teenagers, genders, belief and race. The binary opposite to stereotypes are countertypes , an example of a countertype is that all young female girls are pleasant and beautiful. The media has always taught us that women belong in the kitchen, women can t handle a day s work and that we live in a man s world because we as women, are weak, emotional house wives. On the other hand, we are taught that men are the brave, stoical, hard working money makers. Thankfully, due to many equality protests and the suffragette movement there has been a rise in feminism and women support. Feminism is the process in which women s rights are influenced to the public to make decisions on the equality of both males and females. The people who support feminism are known as feminists. Jane Bailey wrote about women on stereotypes within social media and explains how it is a platform for women to freely express themselves. Gender stereotyping used to happen more often in the media than it does nowadays, this is for the reason that in today s society is frowned upon and seen as inappropriate by a mass audience. • 8. Essay on Physics of Bowling Aside from being one of the most accessible (and best!) sports out there, many aspects of bowling can be expressed with physics. Achieving maximum power, throwing a hook ball, and getting good pin action can all be broken down into physics issues and represented with equations. I will cover four aspects of bowling that can be explained with physics terms and show you how to use this knowledge to optimize your game. Gravitational Potential Energy Depending on the height from which the bowler drops the bowling ball, the ball will have a certain amount of potential energy. If the bowler bowls with a straight ball, the potential energy of the ball will not affect their game very much. It will, however, draw attention to the bowler when ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The horizontal kinetic energy that remains after the ball has traveled down the lane is the energy that will be used to collide with the pins, so the bowler needs to make it count! The magnitude of the forces exerted in the horizontal and vertical directions can be calculated using trigonometry. The total magnitude of the force multiplied by the cosine of its angle with the horizon will calculate the horizontal force. Conversely, the total magnitude of the force multiplied by the sine of its angle with the horizon will calculate the vertical force. Friction, Hook Balls, and Direction of Impact When a bowler bowls with a hook ball, they are taking advantage of friction. A hook ball is when the ball goes about two thirds of the way down the lane before curving into the pins. Don t bowl against people who do this, they are usually very good. The lanes are oiled, producing a small coefficient of kinetic friction. Therefore, it takes a long time and a lot of torque on the ball to cause it to curve into the pins. The ball accelerates to the left or right as it catches what little friction it can. The reason most good bowlers bowl with a hook ball boils down to the direction of the collision with the pins. Throwing the ball straight down the lane, while easy to do, does not distribute the impact efficiently. Once in a while a straight ball bowler will get lucky and put a ... Two historians that have questioned the legitimacy of past beliefs regarding the Indians are Charles Mann and James Axtell. Unfortunately, in the end all the planning and trickery in the world couldn t have saved the Indians as they were just simply outnumbered and technologically inferior to the Europeans. James Axtell wrote the article entitled, Colonial America Without the Indians and it goes into extreme detail to pinpoint the impact that the Indians had on American history. For example, America may not have been settled as quickly if not for the Indians because explorers wouldn t have known of the hidden gold and silver deposits, many early settlements would likely have failed without knowledge and support from the Indians, and guerilla warfare was practically taught to the Americans by the Indians and became a central piece in the winning of the American Revolution. As previously stated, structuralism is a theory in which all elements of human culture are thought to be part of a system of signs. Structuralists are concerned with issues such as form and genre. The reason why I chose to apply a structuralist perspective upon William Wordsworth s poem is due to the fact that that it can be easily interacted with because it is positioned in the lyrical genre. The rhyming scheme is in the form ABABCC. The rhyming couplet evident at the end of each stanza creates an unpretentious break caused by the addition of a new stanza. As a result, the final line of teach stanza contains an additional sense of emphasis. The final line of the poem mentions the show and conveys images of dancing daffodils, a long lasting impression discussed by Wordsworth. The meter of this poem is an iambic tetrameter. The meter creates a rhythm with a musical, song like quality, to which the daffodils may dance. Wordsworth also employs consonance and alliteration to create the sense of rhythm. The form of a poem is of utmost importance to structuralist critics. I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud is twenty four lines long and it features four stanzas with six lines each. In each individual stanza there is a perceptible pattern the first line rhymes with the third line and the second line rhymes with the fourth line. The stanzas finish with the inclusion of a rhyming couplet. By concentrating the first three stanzas on the lake experience and the final on the memory of that experience, Wordsworth amalgamates the content of the poem. It is interesting to note that despite the obvious fact that I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud is built as a sonnet although it is a lyrical poem. Wordsworth employs figurative language such as comparisons, personification, epithets and metaphors so as to express his feelings to the reader. As a sub genre, I Wandered Lonely as ... North Korean Political Policies On North Korea Introduction Beginning in the early 1940 s, Korea has been a split nation; the great divide that happened in initially in 1945 was just the beginning of what would become one of the world s most infamous splits of a country. Radically different in political regime and agenda, these countries provide for a very complex case study of border conflict. Due to its extremely repressive regime, North Korea stands as one of the worst places to call home in the world, while South Korea is incredibly more liberal. Despite the inescapable amounts of propaganda imposed on the citizens of North Korea, the current generations of North Koreans hold ties to South Korea through separated family, making South Korea a very attractive but forbidden land. While South Korea continues to center its foreign policy on loosening the strict rule of the North Korean government, North Korea remains stubborn and the struggle remains in tow with the stark differentiation between ideologies politically, militarily, and culturally. History of Korea In the mid 10th century, the Silla regime was overtaken by the Goryea regime in what is today Korea when it was one land, and one people. The name Korea was directly derived from the pronunciation of the Goryea. (Shelley, 500). Macklemore was driven to write this song because of the issue of equal marriage right and the use of gay as degrading word in society and in the hip hop industry. He wanted to set an example for others in the music industry, and help change the stereotypes of homosexuality. As Macklemore writes in his song a bunch of stereotypes all in my head this shows that society riddles our brains into thinking that it isn t alright to be gay, when really it is. These stereotypes make it hard for people to feel accepted about their sexuality. This song discusses how gay is used in an insultive way as quoted in the lyrics; If I was gay I would think hip hop hates me, Have you read the YouTube comments lately, Man that s gay Gets dropped on the daily, We ve become so numb to what we re sayin These examples show the connection of love, but in a different way to what we would usually expect. Though tea had been known and consumed prior, it was not until the Tang dynasty that a level of artistry surrounded tea was achieved. By the Tang dynasty and up through the Song, tea had developed a rather contradictory identity. To tea purists such as Lu Yu, tea was an almost spiritual art, closely related to the ideals of Buddhism, to be savored individually in a quest for enlightenment. To many others, tea was a commercial and social drink, the facilitator of social gatherings and a luxury indicator of social rank. This paper will explore the development of these contrasting identities through the unprecedented expansion of the popularity of tea during the Tang and Song eras of China, and its relationship with poetry, religion, and social conventions. Moderation is the very essence of tea. Tea does not lend itself to extravagance. Thus is said about tea by Lu Yu, the Tang dynasty author of the groundbreaking work ambitiously titled The Classic of Tea. There are two basic principles that a system can be approached by; the continuous matter or modular approach and the discrete matter or lumped mass approach (Holroyd, 2007). Generally, when a mass can be defined as a rigid body or, in other words, when a system have a finite number of degrees of freedom, it is more efficient to be modeled as a discrete (lumped parameter system). On the other hand, when a mass is non uniform or, in other words, when a system have an infinite number of degrees of freedom (e.g. because it includes continuous elastic members), it is best to be modeled as a continuous (distributed parameter system). Furthermore, there are hybrid models which combine lumped and distributed parameters and provide more realistic ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, the behaviour and interaction of individual components of an electromechanical system is not possible to be examined with lumped parameter models. Finally, lumped parameter models require modifications in their whole lumped model when changes in any system component occur. As already mentioned, distributed (modularized) models are solved by a set of partial differential equations due to all the dependent variables consist of more than one independent variable. However, these equations can be homogeneous or non homogenous (inhomogeneous) equations. In practice, the solution of a homogeneous equation with the appropriate boundary conditions illustrates the behavior of the system after it has been properly set in motion and then subject to no further force. In addition to this, the solution depicts the trend of the system to vibrate at a number of natural frequencies. On the contrary, the solution of a non homogeneous equation depicts the behavior of the system to specific forces (Holroyd, 2007). The forced damped method can be used for solving the non homogeneous equation of motion. According to this method, the steady state response to exciting forces is calculated by transfer matrices. Moreover, this method uses fewer elements than the lumped mass approach in order to create a realistic model. This method contains terms which are dependent on frequency, thus it requires the ... • 24. The Evolution Of Monogamy In Mammals The evolution of monogamy in mammals has been challenging to understand for ecologists for many years, because in most cases male mammals are thought to have higher fitness through polygamous mating. One of the principles of evolution is that animals want to maximize their reproductive success, so two animals committing to one another kind of seems counter intuitive. Animals want to pass on their genes to the next generation, and having more offspring means there s a higher chance of survival. When females have long lactation periods or gestation, they are unable to mate during this time, so it would seem to be advantageous for the male to move on to their next mate. In a biology context, monogamy is when one male mates to one female forming an exclusive bond. Research shows that approximately 3 5% of mammals are considered monogamous compared to about 90% of birds and out of a total of 4,000 mammalian species (Munshi South). Birds seem to be extremely monogamous because both male and female birds actively participate in the growth of their hatchlings. The equitable division of the labor gives the male bird more of a reason to stick around (Munshi South). Although most mammals are not monogamous why do some of them exhibit this behavior? We could address this question by looking at different examples of monogamous mammals and what genetic and environmental factors could have influenced this behavior. We can also look at what hormones could be involved in pair bonding ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

With all this technology, it would be easy to use it for other things then what they were intended for. The Ladies Home Journal As I analyzed three different issues of the Ladies Home Journal that were published in 1960, I was able to gain a deeper understanding of how women were perceived during the year in which my mother was born into. Since the magazine was mainly targeted towards housewives, it included features on marriage, beauty, fashion, food, and interior decoration. The messages perpetuated by the advertisers, news writers, and fictions writers would often contradict each other and sometimes agree. The publications would try to influence women s marriage life, the way they looked, what they should eat, and how they should care for their families. Marriage and beauty were two of the most important things in a woman s life according to the magazine. The importance of age and experience was a recurring theme throughout the issues and it was implied that youth and inexperience would lead to an unhappy marriage. In the February issue of the Ladies Home Journal, an article talked about a couple that got married during their senior year of college and were experiencing many complications in their marriage. With the knowledge of the mechanics and the physics of how the game works it can be played more effectively. Friction, gravity, potential energy, kinetic energy, circuits and momentum are just a few of the aspects of physics apply. The first thing to do to start a game of pinball is to insert the coin. This alone requires many fundamental aspects of physics. The player inserts the coin and lets gravity take over. Gravity accelerates the coin to a certain speed in a specific direction or what is called velocity. The coin, which has mass, is now moving at a certain velocity. The coin now has linear momentum. To find the momentum of the coin we would take the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The player has now compressed the spring in the ball shooter. The ball sitting in the ball shooter is at rest. It will be at rest until acted on by an unbalanced force. This is Newton s first law of motion, the law of inertia (Kirkpatrick and Wheeler p31). The ball shooter is then released the spring decompresses and strikes the ball sending it up the incline to the top of the pinball playing field. The strike on the ball is called the impulse. The time interval it takes for the ball momentum to change. Since the ball has no momentum because it has zero velocity the ball shooter transfers its momentum at the impulse (The Ball Shooter 2003). This also takes place in the time frame of about a second. The ball now has kinetic energy. Kinetic energy like momentum in that it comes from the mass of the object and its velocity. Kinetic energy was transferred from the plunger to the ball just like momentum was but only if the collision was elastic. During and elastic collision kinetic energy is conserved. The balls kinetic energy is half of its momentum squared. This means the balls momentum is its mass multiplied by velocity, and then it is squared and divided by two. If the velocity or speed of the ball is reduced by one half then the overall kinetic energy is reduced by a factor of four (Kirkpatrick and Wheeler p.106) The ball uses this kinetic energy to move up the usually 6 to 7 degree incline to the top of the playing field. Unfortunately, when the police apply their own discretion in the use of force, the outcomes of this approach may end in fatalities or serious injuries. In recent times, diverse opinions have emerged in relation to the use of discretionary force. In some quarters, the use of discretionary force has been hailed as beneficial while in other case such as the 2008 Shooting of Tyler Cassidy, concerns have been applied concerning the appropriateness of the strategy. Against this backdrop, this essay examines whether the police use of force is a necessary component of the job and describes the benefits and limitations connected to the discretionary use of force by the police.
