The Perks Of Being A Wallflower Coming Of Age Analysis
The Realization of Passivity Where should I go? asked Alice. That depends on where you want to end
up responded The Cheshire Cat. (Carroll Lewis) The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen
Chbosky is a phenomenal coming of age novel that depicts how Charlie, the introverted protagonist,
develops a new understanding of life. Set in the early 1990s, Charlie narrates his freshmen year of
high school experience through an anonymous series of letters to a stranger. He begins the novel
isolated by his peers and feeling lonely until he is befriended by Sam and Patrick, two seniors who
encourage Charlie to experience new things and life live to its fullest. Charlie is considered to be a
wallflower, which is someone who, because of shyness ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first symbol is revealed when Sam is speaking to Charlie to truly participate about how it s not
enough to have friends or just be there but that, Charlie really needs to engage with his friends. It s
great that you can listen and be a shoulder to someone, but what about when somebody doesn t need a
shoulder? What if they need arms or something like that? You can t just sit there and put everybody s
lives ahead of yours and think that counts as love. You just can t. You have to do things (Chbosky
200). In other words, Sam uses a shoulder to represent Charlie s passivity and wallflower status. The
shoulder symbolizes his inaction, a stationary anatomy to be leaned on. It symbolizes how Charlie
listens and is always there for his friends but the arm symbolizes how Charlie needs to put himself out
there; give his opinions, speak up and challenge others, be a man of action, be the arms . It
demonstrates how he emotionally grew to become a shoulder but also how he needs to continue to
grow. Undoubtedly, Charlie has become someone who participates in life. This is demonstrated in
Charlie s final letter when he describes his ride through the Fort Pitt tunnel with Sam and Patrick.
Instead of overanalyzing his drive through the tunnel as he did the previous times, Charlie allows

How A Home Is A Life Changing Decision
How to Buy a Home Deciding to buy a home can be a life changing decision and one of the most
important a person can make in their lifetime. It shows a person s responsibility and commitment.
Buying a home can be an easy process if you know what you are looking for and you take the
appropriate steps. Before anything is done, people must understand that it s an important and long
term process. Follow these steps so that you can be aware of what to expect when you decide to buy a
home. First, make sure you have money saved up before you start looking to buy! Once you re ready
to start the process, decide which area you want to live in and what style of house you desire. Do you
prefer the country or city? Do you want acres of land? If you have children, you might want to
consider school districts as well when planning on where you want to live. You will find, the more
houses you look at, that what you thought you wanted, you can live without. Some people may not
know what their looking for just yet, and that s okay too. Secondly, contact a mortgage broker and get
prequalified for a loan to see how much you can afford to spend on a home and which type of loan is
the best for you. There are a couple of different loans out there that you may or may not be eligible for
based on your income and credit score. After the broker has pre qualified you for a certain loan
amount, then you must decide if you are comfortable spending that amount on a home. You can
always spend less than

The Importance of Setting Goal in Life.
Setting goals are very important in life, the main purpose is to outline a set of objectives and by which
means you will be able to achieve them. Goals provide direction in life, and help a person stay
focused, motivated, and improves performance. Goal setting is a process. The goals have to be
realistic and attainable. Effective goal setting requires mixing goal types, such as outcome,
performance based, and process goals. Short term goal setting means setting a goal that will be
accomplished in the near future, easily attainable and part of your daily routine. Long term goal
setting involves something larger that needs more time and depth to accomplish. Long term goal
setting often relies on well defined short term goals. Short term ... Show more content on

reflects my true desires, my vision will lend an excitement to my pursuit that is highly motivating.

Family Dynamics And The Industrial Revolution Essay
During the Industrial Revolution, an exponential amount of working class and middle class Americans
moved to the cities, seeking to better their lives and to break away from the American tradition of
farming. Family dynamics also changed due to the Industrial Revolution, making the need for a large
family obsolete. Children were no longer helpers on the farm, making them more of a liability than an
asset. In turn, the number of children in middle class families reduced significantly, giving more
educated women time to accomplish other gratifying goals. Many American women spent their time
shopping and mingling with their neighbors, some would work, others would support their church, but
few would advance themselves in scholarly education or embrace a political role. Even with the
ability to work, many middle class women continued living with the mentality of staying at home.
With the poor wages paid to working women, it was not worth the effort for most. Many advice books,
women s magazines, novels, and religious periodicals inspired middle class mothers and married
women to focus on raising upright and moral children, and to produce a haven for their working
husband, changing their role to be a more domesticated one. This kept most middle class women
constrained to their homes and away from political affairs even though they were still expected to
participate in social gatherings with other wives of businessmen to reinforce their social and economic
bonds (Hewitt 331). It

Examples Of Greek Heroes In The Odyssey
Greek Hero or Ordinary Mortal? Throughout all of the Greek mythology and texts that I have read,
each story contains one or more heroes. A hero is a person who is selfless and somehow gets all of the
attention in a story because he or she causes some sort of change. There is always someone who gains
leadership qualities throughout the story and ends of saving the rest of the people. One particular
person who stood out to me was Odysseus. Odysseus was an ordinary person who eventually
accomplished a huge task. He ruled Ithaca with his wife, Penelope, and throughout the story, he tried
to get back to Ithaca after the Trojan War and return to his position as king. Throughout the Odyssey,
there are multiple instances in which Odysseus can be seen ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

He gains the trust of his people and he fights for his country. He helps his men out of deadly situations
and he is willing to what it takes to set them free. He goes on a journey knowing that he could die, but
he does it for his people. He is considered a hero because he encountered so many bad situations on
his journey, but he eventually came out on top. However, I do not believe that Odysseus is a hero.
Odysseus was a mere mortal with the same flaws as everyone else. Although he came back to his wife,
I still believe that he let her down. If she was able to wait twenty years without having an affair with
someone else, then he should be able to as well. I believe that Odysseus was a hero to so many people,
but I do not believe that he was a hero to his wife. He was not faithful to her, and in my eyes, she
should not have taken him back. Without this one flaw, however, I believe that Odysseus could have
been the most heroic character in all of the Greek texts that I have ever

The Effects Of The Civil War On American Realism
INTRODUCTION 1. List the various ways that the American borders were being pushed westward :
The entire Southwest, including California, into the nation; and the discovery of gold in California in
1848 increased the pace of westward movement beyond anything that could have imagined even on
year earlier. White Americans, mostly of English, Scottish, and German settled across these regions
which increased the pace of westward. U.S Government was forcibly relocating Native Americans
tribes, the term was removable and the practice had begun from their homelands to places further
pushing westward. 2. What were the effects/changes made by such expansion? 3. List/discuss both

What was the significance of women writers during this era of literature? What did their female
characters suggest about human beings (particularly women)? 20. What was so special about Kate
Chopin s writings? What types of things/characters did she write about? Chopin was absorbed in the
customs, languages, and sceneries of the northern Louisiana countryside and, downriver, New
Orleans. She wrote about searching psychological fiction with captivating female protagonists. Also,
in her narratives she remembers (possibly romanticizes) the relaxed and sumptuous way of life of the
local residents. 21. Why were the writings of Native Americans during this time important? They
defined their lives and traditions especially as these were endangered by white advances into their
grounds. The discussion of Charlot and Smohalla, the Ghost Dance religion, and the writings of
Zitkala Sa, Sarah Winnemucca, and Charles Alexander Eastman all expanded public gratitude of
legendary models outside the European ritual while also stimulating the dominant culture s

Robotic Rights Are Really Required
Robotic Rights Are Really Required Envision a world where people and robots are living together in
harmony achieving things that no one could ever do alone. Now envision that same world where
instead of working together, robots and humans are at war because of robotic rights. Both worlds are
equally possible depending on what people decide to do with robots. If A.I. never receives rights, the
second scenario may very well happen, but if they are given rights, scenario one may happen. In a
world where technology is rapidly advancing, A.I. is becoming more intelligent everyday. Some day
in the near future robots will exist that can walk, talk, and even dance in the human world. With the
increasing intelligence of these A.I., they will ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They just believe that they all have the same object (Sautoy 13). With A.I., a person can t look into
their box of consciousness to see if they too have a beetle. Alex Knapp, an Associate Editor for
Forbes, poses an interesting question: If an AI can t alter the rules its creator set up for his behavior,
purpose, etc., is it really conscious in the same way that humans are? (Knapp 10). People can t
determine if A.I. are conscious the same way people are if they can t change their programming
because humans, from birth, are programmed to do certain tasks. These are called instincts. The robots
programming is just their instincts making them the same as people and making it impossible to
determine their consciousness. All three datas point to humans not being able to tell whether or not
A.I. have consciousness and if humans cannot decide if an A.I. is conscious, then there is no reason
they should keep A.I. away from human rights. Humans have the right to explore where they came
from and their beliefs, why they re alive and who they are, so there isn t any reason A.I. shouldn t be
able to do the same. The second reason A.I. deserve rights is because technology is rapidly advancing
faster than ever before. In every sci fi story, robots have always aided humans with everyday tasks.

Emperor Penguin Climate Change
These massive changes in climate over millions of years brought about new species and ended others.
As we are living in a cold period in the history of the earth s climate, small temperature changes are
attributed to increased levels of carbon dioxide in our atmosphere. The important question is: how will
these changes, man made or otherwise, impact existing species? One easily observed example is
Emperor penguins, residents of the shores and ice shelves of Antarctica. With increasing temperature
of the ocean, the sea ice where they live melts, eliminating nesting areas, the sea levels rise, reducing
shore habitat, and food supply becomes limited. The penguins main diet consists of krill, fish, and
squid. Antarctic krill populations, their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The ones residing on the northern coast of Antarctica are prone to ice melting, due to the increasing
temperatures in the spring which shorten the ice season. Those on the southern coast are of least
concern due to the fact that the temperature there fluctuates less drastically. Regarding the penguins
nesting places, immense ice sheets are essential for them to hatch and raise chicks; during the ice
season, Emperor penguins march 60 100 miles to their rookery around May, where they lay, incubate,
and hatch their eggs. Usually, the chicks begin fledging about December and the adults leave.
However, if the ice season is shorter due to warmer temperatures, the ice breaks earlier. Before the
baby penguins can fully fledge and retain waterproof and swimming capabilities, the only habitat they
know is swallowed into the ocean. Then, the immature chicks, unable to swim, are swept into the sea
where they drown. The quintessential nesting grounds of Emperor penguins allow for expansion of
their species. After all, predation by leopard seals and killer whales naturally reduces the population,
and they must repopulate to sustain. The specific, freezing march of Emperor penguins to their nesting
grounds was displayed in the acclaimed French documentary March of the Penguins. The
documentary was recorded in the southern region of Antarctica, where temperatures recorded have

Negative Effects Of Technology On Children s Behavior

The Negative Impact on Children s Behavior

Mr.Yarbrough
Technology is everywhere. It has become an important part of our everyday life. It can be used as a
learning tool and also provides many forms of entertainment. It can be fun, but it can also be habit
forming. In today s society, children are using technology more frequently than ever before. Does the
increase in technology have a negative impact on children s behavior?
Technology is used in every part of daily life. In recent decades, electronic devices have become a
common part of the American home. It is common to see children using technology by playing on cell
phones and tablets. Parents may be surprised at how quickly children learn to use technology. A study
done in 2013 by Common Sense Media, showed that seventy two percent of children under the age of
eight have used a mobile device, and 38% of children under two have used one. Another study
completed by Kaiser Foundation in 2010 and published in The Huffington Post, showed that
elementary aged children use on average 7.5 hours per day of entertainment technology, 75 percent of
these children have TV s in their bedrooms, and 50 percent of North American homes have the TV on
all day. Technology is changing how children act and also changing the relationships between parents
and their children. With all

A Practical Apocalypse
The purpose of this essay is to exegetically examine 1st Thessalonians 5:1 11. In this exercise I will
seek to elucidate the intention of the author in writing as he has and to show how the specific subject
matter of these verses interrelates with the major themes of the Epistle. That Paul is the author of 1st
Thessalonians is almost undisputed. Green is in agreement with Wanamaker who comments, No
contemporary scholars of repute seem to doubt the Pauline character of the letter. The position taken
in this paper, consistent with the majority of scholarly opinion, is that the letter was written around AD
50 51 from Corinth on the occasion of Paul hearing Timothy s report on the Thessalonian Church.

Christian faith produces hope where otherwise there would be none (cf 5:8) and faith in Christ
changes the nature of grief itself. It is the presence of such faith and hope that distinguishes the
believers from the nonbelievers who have no hope. Christian will grieve as they suffer loss but they
should not be overcome by it. (4:14) as we will see this distinction between believers and unbelievers
will be developed by Paul in chapter 5:4 6 At chapter 5:1 Marshall detects the introduction of a new
subject and an answer to a further question the Thessalonians have asked. Green, surprisingly,
reconstructs that question as when would the day of the Lord come? However there is no need to
anticipate or reconstruct such a question. By using the phrase `you have no need for anything to be
written to you Paul is taking the opportunity to further commend the believers, as he had already done
when he used the same phrase at 4:9. The Thessalonians had learned well Paul s eschatology and were
not asking him about `times and dates. Indeed their attention was very much focussed on more
practical issues. If this was not the case then this response would be obtuse, as Wanamaker notes, Paul
does not give an answer to the question of when. Verses 2 3 draw

The Final Solution Dbq Analysis
The dramatic impacts the Final Solution had negatively influenced Jewish men, women and children.
Jewish people were forced out of their homes and into ghettos, made to work at concentration camps,
dehumanised, barely given any food or medical care and sent to death camps to be gassed to death.
The Final Solution was the annihilation of Jewish people. It was torture for them and significantly
impacted their lives.
The first stage of the Final Solution was the process of moving Jewish people out of their homes and
into ghettos. This procedure had many negative impacts on the lives of the Jewish men, women and
children and caused them much distress and trauma as they were being forced out of their homes and
into a new, unknown and unsafe place. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The provision of food in the ghettos was inadequate, causing many people to starve or become harshly
ill. Source One discusses experiences from life in the Lodz ghetto. It describes the way of how it is
hard to get bread; Jews are driven away from all the queues . This quote reveals that the Jews were
treated harshly and prevented from receiving food. The level of sanitation and hygiene in the ghettos
was appalling. Many Jewish men, women and children died from starvation and diseases such as
typhus and typhoid. These diseases were a result of the Final Solution procedure and majorly
impacted the lives, not only of the ones who died from them, but their families too. Jewish people
were also beaten and forced to work while living in the ghettos. Source One talks about how they were
seized, hauled off to labour, and beaten to a pulp. This quote shows that the Jewish men, women and
children were forced to do whatever the German officers wanted of them and if they disobeyed, they
were severely punished. Women in the ghettos were often abused sexually. The German men would
rape the Jewish women, and then generally kill them with the unborn child inside. This shows that
Jewish men, women and children had their physical wellbeing impacted during the Final

Studies have proven that kelp can accelerate growth, increase flowering, and provide resistance to
disease ( Benefits of Kelp , n.d.). When comparing Figures 3 and 4, the SUPERthrive zinnias appear
to have healthier growth and are generally larger than the control group. Many of the SUPERthrive
zinnias also flowered, and overall looked healthier than the control zinnias. Because kelp has been
proven to increase growth, health, and flowering, it may be the reason why the experimental zinnias
had more success than the control.
The synthetic auxin found in SUPERthrive, indole 3 bytric acid, may be a key player in the benefits of
SUPERthrive, if there are any. For example, indole 3 acetic acid (IAA), the main auxin in higher
plants, has been found to have positive effects on plant growth and development. Auxin is able to
stimulate differential growth, specifically in response to gravity or light stimuli. Another important
aspect of auxin is its ability to detect developmental defects caused by auxin deficiency. With
SUPERthrive having indole 3 bytric acid as one of its main ingredients, there should be some benefits
from its use (Zhao, 2010). The increased growth seen in the SUPERthrive zinnias may have been due
to the additive of auxins in the product. Overall, it is hard to draw conclusions based off the results of
this experiment. While the SUPERthrive zinnias did experience a larger growth of 4.5 cm average

Doing Business in India
We believe the single greatest risk of doing business in India is its bureaucracy. The Indian
bureaucracy is often referred to as babudom. An Indian bureaucrat is often referred to as a babu.
Today, babu may also mean Sir or Mr. The babudom was formed after India gained independence
from Britain. It employs many more people than necessary and it is highly unproductive. Each
geographic region of the babudom requires specific government permissions and taxes. Making
progress in the babudom with limited local support is a difficult task, especially for a small U.S. firm
with limited capital.

Companies have to pay employees to deal with the babudom instead of paying them to sell their
products and services. Companies often hire outside people to help them deal with the babudom. For
example, a company might hire an attorney or someone familiar with the law to help expedite the
process of approval for their products.
Instead of telling someone negative information, Indians in the babudom will often communicate a
negative response by endless stalling. This stalling could last for months or even years. Throughout
this stalling, the Indian will come up with excuses for why something has not been done. Americans
must be able to recognize when they are being given false information and know when to move on.
For example, if an is unable to do something for your company, he or she still might say, I ll try
instead of saying no.
Contact the appropriate government departments for information to help you save time and avoid
bureaucratic processes. The India desks at the U.S. State Department and the Commerce Department
will be able to provide you with the latest rules and regulations governing investment, the export of

Describe What Montessori Meant by’ New Education’ Essay

Maria Montessori lived through one of the traumatic time eras of the world history, which changed
everybody s lives including children. It was the time of anxiety, cruelty, death, family separation and
children facing starvation. Maria Montessori felt the best solution to overcome endless, war, violence

their own natural rhythm. The education system back in her era focused on teaching the children to
memorise word to word from books and posters and Children sat in rows at desks at the classroom
learning from a blackboard and slates. This method of education wasn t stimulating and exciting for
children. Nevertheless through her experience Montessori discovered children want to learn, and they
will do it in their own time frame and they shouldn t be forced. The new education that she invented
will make learning fun, spontaneous and challenging. She diminished the traditional method of
teaching by starting her children with writing. She felt the traditional method of teaching was very
teacher oriented and it lacks the role of children in education. The teacher dominates the class and
gives instructions to the whole class. The children s role is to sit, listen and absorb the information
from teacher s traditional academic instruction. Teachers sets the Curriculum materials themselves at a
rapid pace plus the materials are not catered for individual needs. They are treated in a same manner;
therefore teachers are not being able to address each child s individual academic strengths and needs.
Maria Montessori believed because of children s

How Did Queen Victoria Influence Society
Queen Alexandrina Victoria of England (reigned June 20,1837 January 22,1901) was known as a
queen that loved her people, wanted to better her country in many ways, tried to influence both foreign
and domestic policies, and helped protect the principles of the parliament and free trade. Queen
Victoria married Prince Albert of Saxe Coburg Gotha in 1840, three years after her rise to the throne in
1837. Queen Victoria had nine children with Prince Albert in eighteen years, and they ruled the British
Empire together until Prince Albert s death in 1861 and Queen Victoria s death in 1901. During Queen
Victoria s reign, many political events came to pass, including the Chartist movement, the Great
Exhibition, and the Crimean War. Queen Victoria ruled the British Empire for sixty three years, and
was a beloved queen that helped her empire grow and become a nation that ruled the world,

Designing Goal Directed Design And Tactics For Assembling...
In this chapter, the authors share ideas with the reader about the practice, which goes along with three
other p s: principles, patterns, and processes, that consists in the method of Goal Directed design, of
Goal Directed design and how design teams integrate into the larger product team. The authors also
discuss strategies for working together, complementary approaches to product development, and
tactics for assembling teams across an organization. The authors state that some of the most interesting
and important design problems are too big to solve alone and too often, doing it alone also can be
rather lonely. The first thing covered in chapter 6 is the two types of teams: core teams, which are
small and focused, and extended teams, which are large and sometimes geographically distributed. I
learned that even in large scale product organizations that most of the work is done within the context
of core teams. It came as a shock to me that large scale organizations do not use extended teams, or
larger teams, since they have a lot to work on. I like that large organizations use small teams because
small teams continually prioritize and address items on their work list. The author also discusses how
cross functional teams get more done than divide and conquer teams because of the collaborative
effort they call thought partnership. Our team is actually more of a cross functional team than a divide
and conquer team. We all share the same goal but each of us come at the

The United States The Home Appliance Industry
In the United States the home appliance industry is a mature market with high penetration, therefore,
replacement product is significantly important to the industry. The United States has three major
manufacturers for domestic production: Whirlpool, General Electric, and Electrolux. The appliance
industry is changing rapidly and becoming more competitive with the influence of Asian competitors,
specifically, LG Electronics and Samsung Electronics, who are major appliance importers.
Subsequently, in January 2016, a Chinese manufacturer, Haier, bid for the purchase of General
Electric Appliances, finalizing the contract on June 6, 2016 (Thompson, 2016).
Whirlpool Corporation is the largest global manufacturer of home appliances (Innovation at the Pace
of Life, 2016). Although, Whirlpool is globally the largest manufacturer, they do not dominate all
markets as they do in North America. In North America, Whirlpool s strength lies in a strong and vast
brand portfolio, consisting of seven brands (Fettig, 2016). In 2006, the United States Department of
Justice approved the acquisition of Maytag Corporation by Whirlpool (Henriques, 2006). The
acquisition served a two fold purpose, seating Whirlpool in the number one market share position in
North America and adding strong brands such as Maytag, Jenn Air, and Amana to the portfolio. A

deception that goes around in our lives. Deceptions is basically something or someone who is
deceiving or tricks you. Horses are a great example of deception because you pick the one you are
most interested in and the one you think that has the best disposition but ends up stomping your brains
in. Horses are an excellent example in deception. In the story Open Window the other uses deception
as the theme of her story.
First of all, The story begins as a guest Mr. Nuttall came to visit a family. The aunt was upstairs doing
something and she would have been down shortly but the 15 year old niece kept him company. The
window was open in front of the house and she explained to Mr. Nuttall why the window was opened.
She told him that they leave the window open every night on that day because her uncle and cousins
were out hunting and never came back. They think if they left the window open they might come back

Theme Statement For Pretty Little Liars
Secrets are a dangerous thing to have. This is a lesson that all four of the main characters Aria, Hanna,
Spencer, and Emily from the novel Pretty Little Liars: Flawless by Sara Shepard learned throughout
the book. This is an exhilarating story that explores secret keeping, broken trust, and even danger. One
possible theme for this book is that secrets are dangerous and can come back to haunt you. Aspects of
the story to prove the theme include the horrible secret, the broken bond, and the anonymous enemy.
One reason the theme of the book should be secrets can come back to haunt you is because of the girls
horrible secret. When they were younger they caught Toby, the neighbor boy, looking in their window.
To get revenge Alison took one of his fireworks and lit it off into his treehouse window, but because of
what she saw she missed aimed and the firework hit Jenna, Toby s step sister, right in the eyes. Jenna
ended up being blinded and the girls swore they would never tell anyone. This shows that secrets can
be a terrible thing that no one really wants to have. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

reunited by these threatening messages that they have all received about spilling their secrets. They
had agreed to tell each other if they ever received another message but when all of them did none of
them came clean because they didn t trust one another. At different points throughout the novel each of
the girls had thought that one of the other girls were responsible for sending the threatening messages.
That just shows how secrets have been ruining their friendship and tearing them apart from each other,
from their families, and even from

The Mental Health Counseling Is A Field Of Great...
Clinical Mental Health counseling is a field of great opportunity and great responsibility. When
counselees walk into the therapist s office, they are often at one of the lowest points of their lives,
bringing with them a lifetime of hurts, questions, and crises. The counselor s view of the Gospel must
be full enough to encompass the life of the hurting person. In those moments, a counselor will rely on
years of hard work and discipline to make decisions that impact a person for life. A counselor must be
prepared to do everything right yet still have the client walk away gaining nothing. Biblical counseling
requires excellence in mind, personal discipline, and compassion, driven by a desire to glorify God
and faith in His grace and sovereignty. There is nothing like Biblical counseling to see the Gospel
work.

Because I believe so strongly that God is calling me to this type of ministry, I want to say that I am a
qualified candidate for this position, but I am also greatly aware of how I personally fall short of such

people.

Robin Williams Tragic Hero
Tragic heroes can be described as people who had royal beginnings, but had a downfall because of a
flaw, or multiple flaws. Due to this downfall, the tragic hero can impact the lives of many people.
Robin williams can be defined as a tragic hero. He was an actor beloved by all from his many comedic
acting roles, such as those in Mrs.Doubtfire and Hook. He seemed to be the best example of a perfect
person, but became a tragic hero after all of his hardships and addictions. Robin Williams was a great
actor and he helped wherever he could, but suffered with his flaws of substance dependence and

Louise Bourgeois Cell XXV Analysis
Cell XXV (The View of the World of the Jealous Wife) By Louise Bourgeois.
An example of a work of art that I believe exemplifies the best of contemporary practice is Cell XXV
(The View of the World of the Jealous wife), a sculpture by artist Louise Bourgeois (1911 2010).
The sculpture was made in 2001 by the artist as part of her Cell series. The sculpture itself features
three figures, each of them headless, armless and legless and each of them female. The three figures
are encased in a prison cell, or birdcage like structure. On the floor are two large white marble
spheres. Hanging between these two is a mannequin wearing a white dress, on one side, hanging
slightly higher, another torso with just a neck and bust, wears flowery fabric, ... Show more content on

Much of Bourgeois work revolved around her own personal feelings towards her childhood and the
ongoing affair that her father had with her childhood nanny and it would not be difficult to see how
this piece could represent the anger felt by the wife her mother towards both her fathers mistress (the
figure in white in the centre perhaps) and towards him, being represented by the implied phallus
constructed by the spheres and the white figure. The white figure and spheres can also be looked at as
a simultaneous depiction of both the father and his mistress with the Jealous Wife and perhaps the
artist herself depicted as the short torso, looking upon them both with hatred. The clothing worn by the
figures seems to be of importance too. The figure in the middle wears white, as does the short torso, a
colour typically used symbolically in clothing to depict innocence and purity as with wedding dresses
and communion dresses etc, and yet here it seems to have been used with irony, perhaps the artist
laughing at the thought of the people depicted in this sculpture being deemed innocent. The figure in
the blue dress stands out in comparison and is black in colour as well to contrast further the all white
of it s companions. This figure is clearly an outsider, a disapproving observer of what it is witnessing.
Despite its separation from the other figures in the sculpture however, all three are enclosed together
in this cell and closed off from the rest of the world. They remain frighteningly still and trapped.
Perhaps this is a comment on how isolated Bourgeois felt from the rest of the world in her youth.
Perhaps it is a comment by the artist on how she felt her fathers affair took over her whole

Review of the Film Adaptation of The Butcher Boy Essay
Review of the Film Adaptation of The Butcher Boy The butcher boy was made into a film adaptation
in 1997 by Neill Jordan and author of the original book Patrick McCabe. The Novel was highly
praised and controversial. Many saw it as the best account of Irish childhood. Its time frame is
reminiscent of the early 1960 s. It is about a young boy called Francie Brady who becomes isolated
from reality and eventually commit s the ultimate sin of murder from this isolation he is experiencing.
He is the victim of a dysfunctional family and of the effects of modernization in Ireland at this time
and we soon realize that he has been raised in an atmosphere of inhumanity. Both Novel and film

Most importantly the film uses a lot of comedy which carries off very well in the film as it did in the
novel. As in McCabe s book, the film is not just a story about social victims in 1960 s Ireland but a
story that explores a society through the eyes of a child called Francie Brady in a time of
modernisation . The setting of The Butcher Boy was in Clones Co.Monaghan. Jordan decided to have
the characters also speak in a Monaghan accent which mirrored McCabe s. As this was a film to be set
in the accents of Monaghan all the actors who were not native speakers went to considerable trouble to
master this tongue .# Not only was Jordan bringing this mainstream film production to Ireland but to
Monaghan. This was a boost for any town or city to get the chance to be in a blockbuster and For
McCabe, it was a remarkable experience to return to his home town with a motion picture crew in tow
# The setting of the film was a very important aspect of the movie in my opinion because if Jordan
failed to pick a place as ideal as McCabe s hometown then it might have been too outside the domain
of the novel and may not have worked as perfect as it did. The fact that Jordan went with Monaghan
as the location of the film shows just how close he wanted to get to the novel and to the writer. It
would have been just as easy to keep all the filming in Dublin or Galway and without the

Music Of The 60s Help Shape Modern Australian Society
In what ways did music in the 60s help shape modern Australian society People today are still living
off the table scraps of the sixties. They are still being passed around the music and the ideas. This was
pronounced by Bob Dylan, a folk musician of the sixties: an era in which the music heavily influenced
the culture of the time and continues to influence the music and culture today. The music and artists of
the 60s influenced radio and television, the music, fashion and lifestyles of the people, particularly

instrumental surf rock music with lyrics more about cars and girls to appeal to teenaged boys. The
influences of the surf music that came out in the 60s can be seen in today s surf music, with bands
such as The Break, Los Fantasticos, and The Sharkskins clearly expressing the likes of 60s surf
musician Dick Dale. By mid 60s, the rock n roll stars including Elvis Presley, Johnny Horton, Lloyd

newer surf music began to be overtaken by the British bands that emerged and dominated the charts.
The British Invasion acts include Beatles, The Animals, The Who, Herman s Hermits, Tom Jones, and

Australia. This type of music then evolved into progressive rock and other genres of music that are
still popular today. Music has always been the barometer

The Wrong Direction
Religion has convinced modern society to not only consider humanity s well being: what God wants
and our place in either Heaven or Hell in the afterlife (Sutter). Religion, even though there are billions
of followers, is based solely on what just a few important religious characters have said. For instance,
Islam was started by a man named Mohammed, who communicated with God and became a prophet.
Nobody saw him or the angel which visited Mohammed at this time, however, when Mohammed
came down from the mountain where he was praying, and began to spread the message, people who
had previously been polytheists converted to Mohammed s new religion: Islam. Over the course of
Mohammed s life, as depicted in the movie The Message , many ... Show more content on

The second purpose of religion is to instill hope, such as the concept of an afterlife. When a Christian
dies, others will believe that they will be able to see each other again when they die, based on the
concept that there is a Heaven, where all Christians go (given they prayed for forgiveness and didn t
commit any high level crimes, such as murder). However, if that person disobeyed the Christian rules,
that person will go to Hell, an eternal damnation. This specific element of religion is one of the main
reasons for joining a religion the hope of Heaven for Christians, and similar environments in other
religions. However, this isn t the only way the hope of religion is used. When a religious individual
prays, many times they will ask a favor of God, such as Please God, let me get an A on this paper , or
Please God, help me lose weight . This is where I personally begin to have problems rather than
focusing on achieving something personally, such as studying and working hard on a paper, or going
to the gym every day to lose weight, prayer is commonly used as a vehicle to hope that something will
come true with virtually no work put in. Another example of this hope is if one has a headache and
prays to God it will go away, there will be two outcomes: it goes away naturally, then God is
celebrated by the individual as their savior, or the headache persists and the individual believes that
God is simply testing one s faith. I would

Maya Deren s Meshes of the Afternoon, (1943) is a 14 minute black and white 16mm film that
captures simple realities like walking around one s house, cutting bread, etc, and turning that narrative
into a warped and surrealistic reality that is eerie and chilling, but ultimately there is still familiarity in
it s truth and sensibility. In addition to it being cinematically masterful, Deren s approach in the
choices she made were remarkable and iconic in terms of editing because of the time period s limited

them because I find knives to be aesthetically lovely on behalf of their elegance in how they shine, but
there is also the inherent phallicism and violence that is attached to it s image as well. Through this
symbol, Deren expresses the frustration she faces with herself and identity, in that she isn t being seen,
understood, or respected, in the way she wants to be through the perspective of men whether that is
through her personal wedded life, or through her professional life in a male dominated field. With
each subtle change different from the last, Deren triggers memory and familiarity and in her repeating

approaching it through an analytical lens in terms of how they re executed in editing are outstanding
artistic choices as well. Whether it is the key turning into a knife, slow motion running, or her final

The Intrigue of the Book of Danie
Book of Daniel The Book of Daniel is one of the most intriguing books found in the Bible. To know
God s plan for the future it is necessary that you understand the book of Daniel. Daniel can be divided
into two segments of six chapters each. Chapters 1 6 are made up primarily of a historical narrative
that explains how Daniel came to be in King Nebuchadnezzar s royal court and his rise to power.
Chapters 7 12 are of an apocalyptic genre in which Daniel receives visions concerning the future and
the kingdom of God. The book of Daniel implies that Daniel was its author in a few key passages,
such as 10:2 and 12:4. Jesus Christ also attributed to this indication via the quote Daniel the Prophet in
Matthew 24:14. In questioning of the original date for the composition of the book, two views prevail:
1) The book was written in the 2nd century BC in Judea or 2) It was written in the 6th century BC in
Babylon by a Jewish exile name Daniel. The book sets its own historical timetable of composition
around 535 BC through such references as Nebuchadnezzar, Belshazzar, and Cyrus (Hindson Towns,
2013). The key theme throughout the book of Daniel is the reassurance of God sovereignty over the
kingdoms of men (Daniel 4:17, KJV). The purpose of this book was to of encourage faithful living
among God s people by demonstrating His faithfulness and giving hope to those exiled from
Jerusalem. God blesses those who put their faith in him in spite of danger or difficulty. According to

Tetralogy Of Fallot Case Study
Tetralogy of Fallot
Tetralogy of Fallot (TOF) is a congenital heart defect. A congenital heart defect is an abnormality of

direction of the hearts blood flow. TOF affects four different formations within the heart. The person
that is born with TOF defect has it the rest of their life, although parts of the heart defect are repaired.
Natural history
TOF is a rare but very complex heart defect. This heart defect affects about 5 out of every 10,000

Heroic As A Hero
What does the word heroic mean to you? What pops into your mind? For me when I think of the word
heroic, I think of my dad. My dad has always supported me on all my decisions and he is alway
reliable. Not only does my dad supports me on everything, he is also very understanding and humble.
He has always been loving and patient, not only with me, but with the small town of Manton. He also
goes out of his way to make others feel good before himself. It was the year of 2010, the sun was
shining and the wind was slight. I was on my way home from school when my aunt Angie s phone
started ringing. She was driving so she let my cousin Haley answer her phone. It was my dad, he was
calling with the most life changing news I have ever heard. It was about my mom, she couldn t be
found, no one has heard from her all day. My dad made me come home right away. When I got home
he ran over to me and wrapped his soft arms around me and held me so very closely. That life
changing day, has made my dad and I more closer. Since she has been gone, there hasn t been one day
that he hasn t been by my side. Not only is he always there for me he is also a very reliable person. In
our town of Manton, my dad has been a very flexible, helping, and a very patient community member.
Along with that, he has been a great role model for me. My father has been the host of the Bluegrass
Festival, Harvest Festival, and many more Community gatherings. He volunteers his own personal
time to help others that are in need. An example of this is his career. His career of being a pharmacist
changed from employee to boss very quickly. He helps others when they are in need of medicine or
have medical concerns during out of business hours. He makes time to deliver from five to ten pm on
his own time. When I watch him do all this community service, volunteer, and put others first, it
makes me do the same. That is why he is a very loving flexible, helping, patient, role model. For not
only me, but including with the rest of the citizens of Manton. When someone makes mistakes usually
there is a lot of disappointment. Perhaps you do something you re not supposed to, or you let your

Critical Reflection of the MEssages Presented in “The...
Our belief states are determined by the external factors, for example, perceived complexity and
priming ethics is an interesting subject and everyone lives by their thoughts and their ways. Everyone
lives by a different code. The difference between morality and ethics is that morality is about primary
making the right choices and ethics is proper reasoning. In the essay The ethics of belief by W. K.
Clifford, he argues that if anything on insufficient evidence, then it s unethical. In this essay *I will
defend the hypothesis that if anything doesn t have enough evidence then it is unethical. * I agree with
some of his (don t agree) (agree in some parts) I do not agree nor do I disagree with what Clifford is
trying to portray. I agree that we should have sufficient evidence before making an assumption. But I
don t believe that just because we don t have sufficient evidence it s automatically wrong. I think that
we have to look at the foundations we know and if they re where some reasons to doubt, then I will
doubt the principles. Knowledge does not depend upon things of whose existence I do not yet have
knowledge. All of our ideas come from our impression, which is, come from our sensations or our

The Business Skills Development Program
During the last six months of the Business Skills Development Program, the Institute completed its 75
hour long entrepreneurial curriculum in fifteen Saturday sessions. Twenty three students registered for
the Entrepreneurship Fundamentals course, and ten successfully graduated from the course.
Instructional services such as class lectures, guest speaker presentations, and supervised writing
assistance all contributed to their completion of a business plan. On the other hand, absences and
withdrawals were experienced after the 3rd and 4th day of the class schedule. However, it should be
noted that such issues with class attendance and withdrawals are common in an adult educational
setting, and are in line with what we have observed with our adult educational program.
In spite of absences experienced during the course schedule, these course graduates did a great job
catching up with class lessons missed, and were proactive in the writing assistance component of the
class; thus, their efforts to continue and completing the course also allowed for each graduate
receiving a certificate of completion and small ceremony acknowledging their accomplishments.
However, it should be noted that the Institute s Entrepreneurship Fundamentals course began in spring

The advantages of exporting is to avoid the costs of establishing local manufacturing operations but in
our case we want to have our own stores in the country because it will make it easier for us to
transport our products from our stores to the customers, the second advantage of exporting is that it
helps the firm achieve experience effects and location economies and the last advantage is that it has
control over manufacturing quality. One disadvantage of exporting is that there may be lower cost
manufacturing locations; this will not affect us as souq.com because we don t manufacture our own
products. Another disadvantage of the exporting entry mode is high transport costs and tariffs, this
also will not effect us because we are planning to have stores in India not exporting from another
places. The last disadvantage is that a foreign country agent may not act in exporter s best interest.

Metaphors of Organizations
Metaphors of Organizations
All theories of organization and management are based on implicit images or metaphors that persuade
us to see, understand, and imagine situations in partial ways. Metaphors create insight. But they also
distort. They have strengths. But they also have limitations. In creating ways of seeing, they create
ways of not seeing. Hence there can be no single theory or metaphor that gives an all purpose point of
view. There can be no correct theory for structuring everything we do.
If you are a consultant, facilitator or manager interested in organizations and how they do and don t
work, then Gareth Morgan s books, Images of Organization and Imaginization are a must read . An

Journal on Financial Ratio Analysis
Session 15: Limitation of Ratio Analysis Learning Objective Explain to the participants on the
limitation of ratio analysis. Important Termss Creative accounting. Accounting Policies. Limitations of
Ratios Accounting Information Different Accounting Policies The choices of accounting policies may
distort inter company comparisons. Example IAS 16 allows valuation of assets to be based on either
revalued amount or at depreciated historical cost. The business may opt not to revalue its asset
because by doing so the depreciation charge is going to be high and will result in lower profit.

It is likely to be done in a sensitive period, perhaps when the business s profits are low. Changes in
Accounting standard Accounting standards offers standard ways of recognising, measuring and
presenting financial transactions. Any change in standards will affect the reporting of an enterprise and
its comparison of results over a number of years. Impact of seasons on trading As stated above, the
financial statements are based on year end results which may not be true reflection of results year
round. Businesses which are affected by seasons can choose the best time to produce financial
statements so as to show better results. For example, a tobacco growing company will be able to show
good results if accounts are produced in the selling season. This time the business will have good
inventory levels, receivables and bank balances will be at its highest. While as in planting seasons the
company will have a lot of liabilities through the purchase of farm inputs, low cash balances and even
nil receivables. Inter firm comparison Different financial and business risk profile No two companies
are the same, even when they are competitors in the same industry or market. Using ratios to compare
one company with another could provide misleading information. Businesses may be within the same
industry but having different financial and business risk. One company may be able to obtain bank
loans at reduced rates and may show high gearing

Dachau s Life In The Concentration Camps In Germany
Imagine being taken from your home, rushed away from your family, and stripped from everything
you once knew. This is what the prisoners in the concentration camps were faced to handle. The
concentration camps in Germany, created by Hitler, consisted of strict rules, and the Nazis had no
regard or care for the prisoners trapped there. First or all, in January, 1933, Hitler developed the first
concentration camp in Germany. According to concentration camps 1933 1939, The term
concentration camp refers to a camp in which people are detained or confined, usually under harsh
conditions and without any regard to legal norms of arrest and imprisonment that are acceptable in a
constitutional democracy. After Hitler became the chancellor, the concentration camps were developed
soon after that. Dachau, a German concentration camp, was the model they ... Show more content on

For the prisoners, their meals consisted of half a piece of bread and a watery vegetable soup each day.
If any of the Jews had disabilities, the Nazis would send them straight to the gas chambers. A large
amount of the prisoners died from being abused, exposure to their wounds, lack of medical care,
exhaustion from working to death, and starvation from their lack of food. Life in the concentration
camps were not so easy, so most people had a tough time surviving the conditions. Lastly, the rate of
prisoners death increased over half once the final year of the war had begun. After the liberation of
many camps started, deaths were still continuing for many weeks after that. In the last year of the war,
over half the number of deaths happened from 1933 1945. The Nazis would rather have as many Jews
dead as they could before the war was over. The Nazis also evacuated some of the concentration
camps so that the prisoners couldn t be liberated. The overall thought in the Nazis head was that none

Who Is The Double Person In Macbeth
The emotions some people portray, and the personalities they hide inside are often differing from one
another. This can be explained by the insecurity of themselves. An example of an insecure person
would be a bully. A bully disguises themselves as tough and rough being who belittles his/her peers,
but on the inside they are truly weak people. By showing superiority, the bully feels more at ease with
him/her self because they are not the ones being targeted and the attention is not on them. William
Shakespeare s Macbeth creates characters such as Lady Macbeth and Macbeth to possess personality
qualitites of the opposite gender. Critics, however, disagree as to why Shakespeare intended on
creating these kinds of characters with Thomas F. Connolly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

the two sides of the double man are these: one is brave, honorable, strong, inclined to be conventional
and not too bright, while the other is the devious character already described, who places intelligence,
even a dark intelligence, above mere honor (31). In the play it is often seen how Macbeth is consumed
by stress over doing the fair or foul thing, most often than not he chooses to do the wrong thing and is
taken over by his sense of greed. We see a change in character in Macbeth from starting out as an
honorable war hero to a weak, indecisive, and evil person. Connolly goes on further and says that
Lady Macbeth and the witches represent an unconscious motivation. The witches deceive by falsely
making true promises of success, and Lady Macbeth by her denial to seeing that there is moral
consequences. In the beginning Macbeth is the one with the imagination; he quails before the deed
because he can envision it before it occurs. His wife complains of what she calls his weakness because
she is incapable of being appalled by an event which has not yet taken place (32). By seeing how
unaffected Lady Macbeth is by certain situations we see how cold hearted she is and how distant she
is from her feminine side of thinking. Macbeth is more morally conscious in doing the right thing than
Lady Macbeth, but towards the end Macbeth shows a change in character proving the Double Man
theory. Connolly then pin points the moment Macbeth turned dark and evil when he says to Lenox T
was a rough night (Macbeth). He acts completely normal masking his culpability showing that he feels
no remorse for what he had done. Connolly illustrates the insecurity of the characters by explaining
his Double Man theory to show that the characters evolved from beginning to end in a negative

Raisin In The Sun Movie Vs Play
Every word in a literary composition adds more sense, if it is presented in a meaningful way. We can
see various differences between the presentation of Hansberry s play in 1961 and 2008 Act 1 Scene 1,
though they are trying to convey the same message. Both of the scenes are trying to show the dream of
a middle class man, and their day to day circumstances while chasing their dream. The main notion of
the play was to portray about the struggle of African American in the society ruled by white people.
The play was written by African American woman in 1957 and for the first time it was filmed in 1961.
At that time the society was dominated by white people. Though the play wanted to show the idea of
discrimination among white and black people, the movie released in 1961 could not perfectly express
its idea of racism. While in the newer version of movie released in 2008, it s more open and obvious
about the discrimination. The newer version of the movie has added more specifics about the racial
discrimination because the society now has become more understanding and open regarding racial
issues. Act 1 Scene 1 revolves around five characters; Walter, his wife Ruth, his son Travis, his sister

Stop All The Clocks Poem
Referring closely to the language of the poets, explain how loss is presented in Stop All The Clocks
and The Voice. Stop All The Clocks by W. H. Auden expresses a dramatic, immediate response to the
death of his partner. Thomas Hardy writes The Voice to profess the remorse he feels, after his wife
dies while their relationship was on bad terms and estranged. Both Poems are written in four stanzas
of four lines. Each stanza in The Voice highlights the different stages of grief. The first stanza
introduces how he believes his estranged wife speaks to him how you call to me. He then continues to
have flashbacks and remember her Even to the original air blue gown! In the third stanza he questions
whether it truly was her calling ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Hardy begins to forget how she was during the time they were estranged but before, as at first when
our day was fair when they were in love. Hardy assures himself with yes, as I knew you then.
Although the reader might believe this would make it harder for Hardy to move on, it could possibly
do the opposite Hardy can continue his life without having regrets, on how their relationship was
before she died. Hardy visualises her in an air blue gown! this is a romantic expression
communicating how perfect she seemed to be. To convey how his loved one was everything to him,
Auden uses a contrast in language in the third stanza, My North, my South, my East and West
demonstrates how Auden was directionless once he died, how he was the entire world to him; all the
coordinates. Auden wanted everyone to share his grief, Prevent the dog from barking with a juicy
bone let the mourners come as a response to death. I believe he wanted to inflict his pain on everyone
else after the loss of a loved one, because it s extremely painful to see others happy; he wants others to
share his grief. Auden seen his loved one so perfect, he wished to broadcast it to the world Put crepe
bows round the white necks of the public doves let aeroplanes circle moaning overhead. Because of
the loss of his partner, Auden wishes to erase romance. Romance is associated

Perfect Winter Coat Research Paper
How to Choose the Perfect Winter Coat
I live in a place where the winter is long and very, very cold. Over the years, I learned how to choose
and invest in the perfect winter coat (coats, in my case, as I have two!) And I decided to share some
tips with you.
1. Choose the right material for your climate
I strongly suggest getting a woolen coat, or at least a wool blend that is warm and cozy. But wool will
not work in long rainy or snowy weather, so if the winters are wet and snowy where you live, you
should also invest in a blower style jacket that is waterproof and filled with some warm material (such
as feathers or Down) instead of a synthetic material such as polyester or polyamide.
3. Choose the right path for your body type

CHAPTER 3
TEACHERING LEARNING BASED OPTIMIZATION (TLBO)
3.1 Teaching Learning Based Optimization: An overview
Teaching learning based optimization (TLBO) is a newly introduced by R.V. Rao in NIT surat. It is an
evolutionary optimization algorithm that inspired from teaching learning phenomenon of a classroom.
It is a novel population based algorithm with faster convergence speed without any algorithm specific
parameters. In TLBO each potential problem is treated as a learner with certain knowledge. The
TLBO consist of two phases Teacher phase and Learner phase, in both phases learner improves their
knowledge from teacher (in teacher phase) and also from classmates (in learner phase).
In section 3.2 Teacher learning based optimization is described, Section 3.3 discusses the Teacher
learning based optimization, Section 3.4 describes the flow of Teacher learning based optimization
with the help of Flow Chart and finally section 3.5 concluded the chapter.

computer algorithm that modeled on transferring knowledge in the classroom and use student result to

controlling parameters like population size and number of generations, so it is called parameter less

Casilda In The Judge s Wife By Isabel Allende
Indeed, a woman should soften but not weaken a man. This supposition exemplifies the character
Casilda from The Judge s Wife short story by Isabel Allende. Although not seen by all as the main
character, Casilda is the strongest and most evolutionary personality of the short story. The Judge s
Wife is an exceptional tale that follows the progression of characters as they fight against their
predetermined destinies and how they are viewed in others eyes. Casilda is a catalyst for the evolution
of almost every character in the story. Not only does her character grow in The Judge s Wife, but she
is also a medium for the growth of the two other main characters in the story. Casilda molds the
personality of a majority of the characters in the story, distinctly Judge Hidalgo and Nicolas Vida.
Casilda noticeably changed the character of Judge Hidalgo, into a softer man, in his field of
professionalism. In a close analysis of this narrative, we find that the Judge was a very cranky
bachelor who was very feared by all, in the village he lived, for his stubbornness and severe temper.
We are told that, when he enforced the law, Judge Hidalgo failed to give any account of the whys and
wherefores behind the indicted committing the crime. According to the author, not only did the judge
refuse to apply any common sense in his judgments but was also equally harsh in his condemnation of
the theft of a chicken as of premeditated murder (Allende 284). Across the village, not a single person
was safe from his cruelty. However, the judge changed, significantly after he married Casilda. All this
came to reality when the priest and a group of Catholic women approached Casilda to plead for the
life of Juana the Forlorn, a poor old woman who was subjected to torture for the reason that she made
an effort to capture her son. Casalda heeded to their requests and set forth for the town, with a bottle of
fresh water and a basket of food, taking her children dressed in their Sunday best. In spite of the
soldiers struggles to keep her away, the cries of her children crossed the years of Judge Hidalgo. This
made him realize the mistakes he had been making prompting him, Judge Hidalgo, to come down in
person and unlock the cage,

Multinational Corporations And Its Effect On The Chinese...
Introduction:
China, indeed, was successful in pursuing foreigners to invest in their country; thus the rise of joint
owned ventures and multinational corporations or MNCs. Soon enough, China s business industry was
dominated mostly by multinational corporations. Through the establishment of MNCs, a lot of
employment were created. Alongside MNCs however, are pressing controversial issues involving
violation of human rights, labor code, and country policies as well as its involvement in environmental
degradation.
Multinational corporations impact the environment of China by exploiting its legal loopholes in their
regulations. Chinese enforcement of their laws is weak. Although some corporations have made
commitments to high standards and better practices, almost every multinational corporations still
environmental practices because environmental lawsuits are not only cheap but also difficult, if not
impossible, to file in China. As a result, the Chinese government have no choice but to allow MNCs to
manage and regulate themselves in the processing and removal of their waste.
This paper argues that multinational corporations in China despite their huge contributions in
improving the Chinese economy and boosting its standing in the global market, have given less
consideration to environmental policies. It also argues that China s immense desire for economic
growth made the country disregardful in enforcing its policies in the environmental scale. Lastly, the
paper argues that

  • 2. The Perks Of Being A Wallflower Coming Of Age Analysis The Realization of Passivity Where should I go? asked Alice. That depends on where you want to end up responded The Cheshire Cat. (Carroll Lewis) The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky is a phenomenal coming of age novel that depicts how Charlie, the introverted protagonist, develops a new understanding of life. Set in the early 1990s, Charlie narrates his freshmen year of high school experience through an anonymous series of letters to a stranger. He begins the novel isolated by his peers and feeling lonely until he is befriended by Sam and Patrick, two seniors who encourage Charlie to experience new things and life live to its fullest. Charlie is considered to be a wallflower, which is someone who, because of shyness ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The first symbol is revealed when Sam is speaking to Charlie to truly participate about how it s not enough to have friends or just be there but that, Charlie really needs to engage with his friends. It s great that you can listen and be a shoulder to someone, but what about when somebody doesn t need a shoulder? What if they need arms or something like that? You can t just sit there and put everybody s lives ahead of yours and think that counts as love. You just can t. You have to do things (Chbosky 200). In other words, Sam uses a shoulder to represent Charlie s passivity and wallflower status. The shoulder symbolizes his inaction, a stationary anatomy to be leaned on. It symbolizes how Charlie listens and is always there for his friends but the arm symbolizes how Charlie needs to put himself out there; give his opinions, speak up and challenge others, be a man of action, be the arms . It demonstrates how he emotionally grew to become a shoulder but also how he needs to continue to grow. Undoubtedly, Charlie has become someone who participates in life. This is demonstrated in Charlie s final letter when he describes his ride through the Fort Pitt tunnel with Sam and Patrick. Instead of overanalyzing his drive through the tunnel as he did the previous times, Charlie allows ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. How A Home Is A Life Changing Decision How to Buy a Home Deciding to buy a home can be a life changing decision and one of the most important a person can make in their lifetime. It shows a person s responsibility and commitment. Buying a home can be an easy process if you know what you are looking for and you take the appropriate steps. Before anything is done, people must understand that it s an important and long term process. Follow these steps so that you can be aware of what to expect when you decide to buy a home. First, make sure you have money saved up before you start looking to buy! Once you re ready to start the process, decide which area you want to live in and what style of house you desire. Do you prefer the country or city? Do you want acres of land? If you have children, you might want to consider school districts as well when planning on where you want to live. You will find, the more houses you look at, that what you thought you wanted, you can live without. Some people may not know what their looking for just yet, and that s okay too. Secondly, contact a mortgage broker and get prequalified for a loan to see how much you can afford to spend on a home and which type of loan is the best for you. There are a couple of different loans out there that you may or may not be eligible for based on your income and credit score. After the broker has pre qualified you for a certain loan amount, then you must decide if you are comfortable spending that amount on a home. You can always spend less than ... Goals provide direction in life, and help a person stay focused, motivated, and improves performance. Goal setting is a process. The goals have to be realistic and attainable. Effective goal setting requires mixing goal types, such as outcome, performance based, and process goals. Short term goal setting means setting a goal that will be accomplished in the near future, easily attainable and part of your daily routine. • 5. Family Dynamics And The Industrial Revolution Essay During the Industrial Revolution, an exponential amount of working class and middle class Americans moved to the cities, seeking to better their lives and to break away from the American tradition of farming. Family dynamics also changed due to the Industrial Revolution, making the need for a large family obsolete. Children were no longer helpers on the farm, making them more of a liability than an asset. In turn, the number of children in middle class families reduced significantly, giving more educated women time to accomplish other gratifying goals. Many American women spent their time shopping and mingling with their neighbors, some would work, others would support their church, but few would advance themselves in scholarly education or embrace a political role. Even with the ability to work, many middle class women continued living with the mentality of staying at home. With the poor wages paid to working women, it was not worth the effort for most. Many advice books, women s magazines, novels, and religious periodicals inspired middle class mothers and married women to focus on raising upright and moral children, and to produce a haven for their working husband, changing their role to be a more domesticated one. This kept most middle class women constrained to their homes and away from political affairs even though they were still expected to participate in social gatherings with other wives of businessmen to reinforce their social and economic bonds (Hewitt 331). • 6. Examples Of Greek Heroes In The Odyssey Greek Hero or Ordinary Mortal? Throughout all of the Greek mythology and texts that I have read, each story contains one or more heroes. A hero is a person who is selfless and somehow gets all of the attention in a story because he or she causes some sort of change. There is always someone who gains leadership qualities throughout the story and ends of saving the rest of the people. One particular person who stood out to me was Odysseus. Odysseus was an ordinary person who eventually accomplished a huge task. He ruled Ithaca with his wife, Penelope, and throughout the story, he tried to get back to Ithaca after the Trojan War and return to his position as king. Throughout the Odyssey, there are multiple instances in which Odysseus can be seen ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He gains the trust of his people and he fights for his country. He is considered a hero because he encountered so many bad situations on his journey, but he eventually came out on top. However, I do not believe that Odysseus is a hero. Odysseus was a mere mortal with the same flaws as everyone else. Although he came back to his wife, I still believe that he let her down. If she was able to wait twenty years without having an affair with someone else, then he should be able to as well. I believe that Odysseus was a hero to so many people, but I do not believe that he was a hero to his wife. He was not faithful to her, and in my eyes, she should not have taken him back. She wrote about searching psychological fiction with captivating female protagonists. Also, in her narratives she remembers (possibly romanticizes) the relaxed and sumptuous way of life of the local residents. 21. Why were the writings of Native Americans during this time important? They defined their lives and traditions especially as these were endangered by white advances into their grounds. Now envision that same world where instead of working together, robots and humans are at war because of robotic rights. Both worlds are equally possible depending on what people decide to do with robots. If A.I. never receives rights, the second scenario may very well happen, but if they are given rights, scenario one may happen. With A.I., a person can t look into their box of consciousness to see if they too have a beetle. Alex Knapp, an Associate Editor for Forbes, poses an interesting question: If an AI can t alter the rules its creator set up for his behavior, purpose, etc., is it really conscious in the same way that humans are? (Knapp 10). People can t determine if A.I. are conscious the same way people are if they can t change their programming because humans, from birth, are programmed to do certain tasks. These are called instincts. The robots programming is just their instincts making them the same as people and making it impossible to determine their consciousness. All three datas point to humans not being able to tell whether or not A.I. have consciousness and if humans cannot decide if an A.I. is conscious, then there is no reason they should keep A.I. away from human rights. Humans have the right to explore where they came from and their beliefs, why they re alive and who they are, so there isn t any reason A.I. shouldn t be able to do the same. The second reason A.I. deserve rights is because technology is rapidly advancing faster than ever before. In every sci fi story, robots have always aided humans with everyday tasks. • 9. Emperor Penguin Climate Change These massive changes in climate over millions of years brought about new species and ended others. As we are living in a cold period in the history of the earth s climate, small temperature changes are attributed to increased levels of carbon dioxide in our atmosphere. The important question is: how will these changes, man made or otherwise, impact existing species? One easily observed example is Emperor penguins, residents of the shores and ice shelves of Antarctica. With increasing temperature of the ocean, the sea ice where they live melts, eliminating nesting areas, the sea levels rise, reducing shore habitat, and food supply becomes limited. The penguins main diet consists of krill, fish, and squid. Antarctic krill populations, their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The ones residing on the northern coast of Antarctica are prone to ice melting, due to the increasing temperatures in the spring which shorten the ice season. Those on the southern coast are of least concern due to the fact that the temperature there fluctuates less drastically. Regarding the penguins nesting places, immense ice sheets are essential for them to hatch and raise chicks; during the ice season, Emperor penguins march 60 100 miles to their rookery around May, where they lay, incubate, and hatch their eggs. Usually, the chicks begin fledging about December and the adults leave. However, if the ice season is shorter due to warmer temperatures, the ice breaks earlier. Before the baby penguins can fully fledge and retain waterproof and swimming capabilities, the only habitat they know is swallowed into the ocean. Then, the immature chicks, unable to swim, are swept into the sea where they drown. The quintessential nesting grounds of Emperor penguins allow for expansion of their species. After all, predation by leopard seals and killer whales naturally reduces the population, and they must repopulate to sustain. The specific, freezing march of Emperor penguins to their nesting grounds was displayed in the acclaimed French documentary March of the Penguins. It has become an important part of our everyday life. It can be used as a learning tool and also provides many forms of entertainment. It can be fun, but it can also be habit forming. In today s society, children are using technology more frequently than ever before. Does the increase in technology have a negative impact on children s behavior? Technology is used in every part of daily life. In recent decades, electronic devices have become a common part of the American home. It is common to see children using technology by playing on cell phones and tablets. Parents may be surprised at how quickly children learn to use technology. A study done in 2013 by Common Sense Media, showed that seventy two percent of children under the age of eight have used a mobile device, and 38% of children under two have used one. Another study completed by Kaiser Foundation in 2010 and published in The Huffington Post, showed that elementary aged children use on average 7.5 hours per day of entertainment technology, 75 percent of these children have TV s in their bedrooms, and 50 percent of North American homes have the TV on all day. In this exercise I will seek to elucidate the intention of the author in writing as he has and to show how the specific subject matter of these verses interrelates with the major themes of the Epistle. That Paul is the author of 1st Thessalonians is almost undisputed. Green is in agreement with Wanamaker who comments, No contemporary scholars of repute seem to doubt the Pauline character of the letter. The position taken in this paper, consistent with the majority of scholarly opinion, is that the letter was written around AD 50 51 from Corinth on the occasion of Paul hearing Timothy s report on the Thessalonian Church. Christian faith produces hope where otherwise there would be none (cf 5:8) and faith in Christ changes the nature of grief itself. It is the presence of such faith and hope that distinguishes the believers from the nonbelievers who have no hope. Christian will grieve as they suffer loss but they should not be overcome by it. (4:14) as we will see this distinction between believers and unbelievers will be developed by Paul in chapter 5:4 6 At chapter 5:1 Marshall detects the introduction of a new subject and an answer to a further question the Thessalonians have asked. Green, surprisingly, reconstructs that question as when would the day of the Lord come? However there is no need to anticipate or reconstruct such a question. By using the phrase `you have no need for anything to be written to you Paul is taking the opportunity to further commend the believers, as he had already done when he used the same phrase at 4:9. The Thessalonians had learned well Paul s eschatology and were not asking him about `times and dates. Indeed their attention was very much focussed on more practical issues. If this was not the case then this response would be obtuse, as Wanamaker notes, Paul does not give an answer to the question of when. Verses 2 3 draw ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Jewish people were forced out of their homes and into ghettos, made to work at concentration camps, dehumanised, barely given any food or medical care and sent to death camps to be gassed to death. The Final Solution was the annihilation of Jewish people. It was torture for them and significantly impacted their lives. The first stage of the Final Solution was the process of moving Jewish people out of their homes and into ghettos. This quote reveals that the Jews were treated harshly and prevented from receiving food. The level of sanitation and hygiene in the ghettos was appalling. Many Jewish men, women and children died from starvation and diseases such as typhus and typhoid. These diseases were a result of the Final Solution procedure and majorly impacted the lives, not only of the ones who died from them, but their families too. Jewish people were also beaten and forced to work while living in the ghettos. Source One talks about how they were seized, hauled off to labour, and beaten to a pulp. This quote shows that the Jewish men, women and children were forced to do whatever the German officers wanted of them and if they disobeyed, they were severely punished. When comparing Figures 3 and 4, the SUPERthrive zinnias appear to have healthier growth and are generally larger than the control group. Many of the SUPERthrive zinnias also flowered, and overall looked healthier than the control zinnias. Because kelp has been proven to increase growth, health, and flowering, it may be the reason why the experimental zinnias had more success than the control. The synthetic auxin found in SUPERthrive, indole 3 bytric acid, may be a key player in the benefits of SUPERthrive, if there are any. For example, indole 3 acetic acid (IAA), the main auxin in higher plants, has been found to have positive effects on plant growth and development. Auxin is able to stimulate differential growth, specifically in response to gravity or light stimuli. Another important aspect of auxin is its ability to detect developmental defects caused by auxin deficiency. With SUPERthrive having indole 3 bytric acid as one of its main ingredients, there should be some benefits from its use (Zhao, 2010). The increased growth seen in the SUPERthrive zinnias may have been due to the additive of auxins in the product. Overall, it is hard to draw conclusions based off the results of this experiment. While the SUPERthrive zinnias did experience a larger growth of 4.5 cm average ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In this chapter, the authors share ideas with the reader about the practice, which goes along with three other p s: principles, patterns, and processes, that consists in the method of Goal Directed design, of Goal Directed design and how design teams integrate into the larger product team. The authors also discuss strategies for working together, complementary approaches to product development, and tactics for assembling teams across an organization. The authors state that some of the most interesting and important design problems are too big to solve alone and too often, doing it alone also can be rather lonely. The first thing covered in chapter 6 is the two types of teams: core teams, which are small and focused, and extended teams, which are large and sometimes geographically distributed. I learned that even in large scale product organizations that most of the work is done within the context of core teams. It came as a shock to me that large scale organizations do not use extended teams, or larger teams, since they have a lot to work on. I like that large organizations use small teams because small teams continually prioritize and address items on their work list. The author also discusses how cross functional teams get more done than divide and conquer teams because of the collaborative effort they call thought partnership. An example of a work of art that I believe exemplifies the best of contemporary practice is Cell XXV (The View of the World of the Jealous wife), a sculpture by artist Louise Bourgeois (1911 2010). The sculpture was made in 2001 by the artist as part of her Cell series. The sculpture itself features three figures, each of them headless, armless and legless and each of them female. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Much of Bourgeois work revolved around her own personal feelings towards her childhood and the ongoing affair that her father had with her childhood nanny and it would not be difficult to see how this piece could represent the anger felt by the wife her mother towards both her fathers mistress (the figure in white in the centre perhaps) and towards him, being represented by the implied phallus constructed by the spheres and the white figure. The white figure and spheres can also be looked at as a simultaneous depiction of both the father and his mistress with the Jealous Wife and perhaps the artist herself depicted as the short torso, looking upon them both with hatred. The clothing worn by the figures seems to be of importance too. The figure in the middle wears white, as does the short torso, a colour typically used symbolically in clothing to depict innocence and purity as with wedding dresses and communion dresses etc, and yet here it seems to have been used with irony, perhaps the artist laughing at the thought of the people depicted in this sculpture being deemed innocent. The figure in the blue dress stands out in comparison and is black in colour as well to contrast further the all white of it s companions. This figure is clearly an outsider, a disapproving observer of what it is witnessing. Despite its separation from the other figures in the sculpture however, all three are enclosed together in this cell and closed off from the rest of the world. They remain frighteningly still and trapped. Perhaps this is a comment on how isolated Bourgeois felt from the rest of the world in her youth. The Novel was highly praised and controversial. Many saw it as the best account of Irish childhood. Its time frame is reminiscent of the early 1960 s. It is about a young boy called Francie Brady who becomes isolated from reality and eventually commit s the ultimate sin of murder from this isolation he is experiencing. The setting of The Butcher Boy was in Clones Co.Monaghan. Jordan decided to have the characters also speak in a Monaghan accent which mirrored McCabe s. As this was a film to be set in the accents of Monaghan all the actors who were not native speakers went to considerable trouble to master this tongue .# Not only was Jordan bringing this mainstream film production to Ireland but to Monaghan. Chapters 1 6 are made up primarily of a historical narrative that explains how Daniel came to be in King Nebuchadnezzar s royal court and his rise to power. Chapters 7 12 are of an apocalyptic genre in which Daniel receives visions concerning the future and the kingdom of God. The book of Daniel implies that Daniel was its author in a few key passages, such as 10:2 and 12:4. Jesus Christ also attributed to this indication via the quote Daniel the Prophet in Matthew 24:14. In questioning of the original date for the composition of the book, two views prevail: 1) The book was written in the 2nd century BC in Judea or 2) It was written in the 6th century BC in Babylon by a Jewish exile name Daniel. The book sets its own historical timetable of composition around 535 BC through such references as Nebuchadnezzar, Belshazzar, and Cyrus (Hindson Towns, 2013). The key theme throughout the book of Daniel is the reassurance of God sovereignty over the kingdoms of men (Daniel 4:17, KJV). The purpose of this book was to of encourage faithful living among God s people by demonstrating His faithfulness and giving hope to those exiled from Jerusalem. God blesses those who put their faith in him in spite of danger or difficulty. According to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

He has always been loving and patient, not only with me, but with the small town of Manton. He also goes out of his way to make others feel good before himself. It was the year of 2010, the sun was shining and the wind was slight. I was on my way home from school when my aunt Angie s phone started ringing. She was driving so she let my cousin Haley answer her phone. It was my dad, he was calling with the most life changing news I have ever heard. It was about my mom, she couldn t be found, no one has heard from her all day. My dad made me come home right away. When I got home he ran over to me and wrapped his soft arms around me and held me so very closely. That life changing day, has made my dad and I more closer. Since she has been gone, there hasn t been one day that he hasn t been by my side. Not only is he always there for me he is also a very reliable person. In our town of Manton, my dad has been a very flexible, helping, and a very patient community member. Along with that, he has been a great role model for me. My father has been the host of the Bluegrass Festival, Harvest Festival, and many more Community gatherings. He volunteers his own personal time to help others that are in need. An example of this is his career. His career of being a pharmacist changed from employee to boss very quickly. He helps others when they are in need of medicine or have medical concerns during out of business hours. He makes time to deliver from five to ten pm on his own time. When I watch him do all this community service, volunteer, and put others first, it makes me do the same. That is why he is a very loving flexible, helping, patient, role model. This can be explained by the insecurity of themselves. An example of an insecure person would be a bully. By showing superiority, the bully feels more at ease with him/her self because they are not the ones being targeted and the attention is not on them. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... the two sides of the double man are these: one is brave, honorable, strong, inclined to be conventional and not too bright, while the other is the devious character already described, who places intelligence, even a dark intelligence, above mere honor (31). In the play it is often seen how Macbeth is consumed by stress over doing the fair or foul thing, most often than not he chooses to do the wrong thing and is taken over by his sense of greed. We see a change in character in Macbeth from starting out as an honorable war hero to a weak, indecisive, and evil person. Connolly goes on further and says that Lady Macbeth and the witches represent an unconscious motivation. The witches deceive by falsely making true promises of success, and Lady Macbeth by her denial to seeing that there is moral consequences. In the beginning Macbeth is the one with the imagination; he quails before the deed because he can envision it before it occurs. His wife complains of what she calls his weakness because she is incapable of being appalled by an event which has not yet taken place (32). By seeing how unaffected Lady Macbeth is by certain situations we see how cold hearted she is and how distant she is from her feminine side of thinking. Macbeth is more morally conscious in doing the right thing than Lady Macbeth, but towards the end Macbeth shows a change in character proving the Double Man theory. Connolly then pin points the moment Macbeth turned dark and evil when he says to Lenox T was a rough night (Macbeth). He acts completely normal masking his culpability showing that he feels no remorse for what he had done. Connolly illustrates the insecurity of the characters by explaining his Double Man theory to show that the characters evolved from beginning to end in a negative ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 49. Casilda In The Judge s Wife By Isabel Allende Indeed, a woman should soften but not weaken a man. This supposition exemplifies the character Casilda from The Judge s Wife short story by Isabel Allende. Although not seen by all as the main character, Casilda is the strongest and most evolutionary personality of the short story. The Judge s Wife is an exceptional tale that follows the progression of characters as they fight against their predetermined destinies and how they are viewed in others eyes. Casilda is a catalyst for the evolution of almost every character in the story. Not only does her character grow in The Judge s Wife, but she is also a medium for the growth of the two other main characters in the story. Casilda molds the personality of a majority of the characters in the story, distinctly Judge Hidalgo and Nicolas Vida. Casilda noticeably changed the character of Judge Hidalgo, into a softer man, in his field of professionalism. In a close analysis of this narrative, we find that the Judge was a very cranky bachelor who was very feared by all, in the village he lived, for his stubbornness and severe temper. We are told that, when he enforced the law, Judge Hidalgo failed to give any account of the whys and wherefores behind the indicted committing the crime. According to the author, not only did the judge refuse to apply any common sense in his judgments but was also equally harsh in his condemnation of the theft of a chicken as of premeditated murder (Allende 284). Across the village, not a single person was safe from his cruelty. However, the judge changed, significantly after he married Casilda. All this came to reality when the priest and a group of Catholic women approached Casilda to plead for the life of Juana the Forlorn, a poor old woman who was subjected to torture for the reason that she made an effort to capture her son. Casalda heeded to their requests and set forth for the town, with a bottle of fresh water and a basket of food, taking her children dressed in their Sunday best. Soon enough, China s business industry was dominated mostly by multinational corporations. Through the establishment of MNCs, a lot of employment were created.
