The Act mainly focuses on children s welfare and keeping families together. The acts main focus is
on keeping families together and states removing children from their homes should always be a last
resort when support and guidance has failed.
In section 1 of the Act there is a welfare checklist which consists of seven principles that courts
must give consideration to the wishes and feelings of children, their physical, emotional and
learning needs, features which will be applicable to the court s conclusion, The possible outcome
on the child if circumstances changed as a result of the court s decision, any harm the child has
suffered or may be at risk of suffering and the capability of children s parents (inbrief helping with

Under section 17 of The Children Act (1989) it is the local authority s (LA) duty to safeguard
and promote the welfare of children in their area who are in need. The children from the case
study are both classed as in need as they were witnesses to unsafe drug abuse and were living in a
dirty home (Coram CLC Children s legal Centre ,2014). Once there is a suitable reason for concern
it is the local authority s duty to investigate the case further under section 47 of The Children Act

The Importance of Improving Communication Skills in the...
My biggest challenge while trying to move up the corporate ladder is interpersonal communication
with co workers and presentation speeches in front of the owners and financial managers. During
my childhood, I did not have the opportunity to communicate with my parents or examples of loud
arguments and negative personal attacks. Humans develop language and social skills from its
surroundings so I guess I can blame mine on my dysfunctional family. At least I did almost five
years ago. When the Director of Finance promoted me to senior accountant, his only constructive
criticism was to attend different communicationcourses to groom me for the Assistant Director of
Finance position.

Even in the present day, people are judged by the color of their skin and in the corporate world
by gender. I don t have to go far for a great example. In my corporate world, being a Caucasian
woman is like fighting an uphill battle. No matter how many classes I complete, it does not stop
others from asking and responding defensively or seeing me as a threat.
Now, I find myself in a conflict with some of the male directors, which affects my emotions, mental
state, and personal beliefs. It may be a result of an individual s perceptual and personal discomfort.
Style, selective perception, halo effect, poor attention and retention, defensiveness, close
mindedness, insufficient filtration are the Individual or Psychological barrier . (Jain, 2009)
A list of the do s for breaking the barrier:
Allow employees access to resources, self expression and idea generation.

Why Three Reasons To Use A Probate Attorney
Three Reasons to Use a Probate Attorney While You Are Still Living
When most people think of probate attorneys, they often think of an attorney that is needed to
disperse assets after a family member has died, and it is true that this is one of their functions.
But there are many services they provide while an individual is still alive, and the more you can
take advantage of these services now, the fewer problems there will be after your death. The
following are among the most important services this type of lawyer can provide you.
They can draw up a will
Many types of lawyers offer this service, but it is the probate attorney that has a lot of experience
with people who have died without a will. This is when the fighting begins. However,

The Disabled And Mentally Disabled Youth Transitioning For...
Many physically and mentally disabled youth transitioning to adults experience improper health
care, usually as a result of socio economic status and/or misdiagnosis by medical professionals. As
these children grow to adulthood, the in depth healthcare they received before dwindles, if not
already, cuts off completely. The highest rates of this phenomenon are among the disabled children
of minorities. Predominantly due to the high rate of individuals having no insurance coverage,
along with other socio economic reasons such as low income, gender, and housing demographics.
Other disparities in individuals health are the improper treatment by healthcare providers and the
healthcare system. These inequalities leave many young people with disabilities stranded without
their fundamental needs for proper care. Disabilityaffects approximately 56.7 million or nearly 1 in
5 (18.7%) people alone in the United States (Brault). These numbers include anyone with a long
term physical, mental, intellectual or sensory (e.g. blindness or deafness) disabilities. On Dec. 3,
2014 the Disability Inclusions Act was passed to make sure those with a disability have equal
access to participate in activities as all able bodied individuals do. The Disability Act was also an
attempt to promote healthy lifestyles through nutrition and routine exercise. Another National Act

In Romania when abortion was declared illegal the crime rate increased dramatically and that
was because mothers who did not want to have the child were forced to. Because of that, these
mothers typically resent their child and do not take care/care near as much about what their
child does or who their child becomes. Children who are not nurtured, cared for, or raised in a
good home tend to more likely end up as criminals due to their mistreatment and unstable
household. Those children who were not aborted were very likely to have lived in poverty or
grown up with only one parent (typically a teen mom); these two factors are usually the profile and
cause of criminals. Years later after Roe v. Wade

Although the study asked a variety of common survey questions such as gender, age, parents
education, etc. It also went beyond that. There were interviews with the children, the parents, and
even the administrators asking a variety of questions that were more personal and had to do with
daily life activities and what the parents would do for and with their children (Do they spank
them? Did the parents take them to the museum frequently? Do their children watch a lot of
television?). If all the correct questions were asked meaningful representative data could have been
collected and further examined to determine if parents really do matter and make an impact on
how well their children will do in school. Economists can determine if such things have a true
correlation through regression analysis. Regression analysis is the tool that enables an economist to
sort out these huge piles of data...by artificially holding constant every variable except the two he
wishes to focus on, and then showing how those two co vary (Levitt and Dubner, 163).

Altur A Short Story
It s been missed before. Don t feel bad if you do it too; there s a sign that points out Whitewater

cornfields. It s cozy. I mean, if you like the small town feel, Altura is the place to be! I bet if you
stood on one end of Main Street, you could spit into the farthest yard on the other end. Altura is in
a sort of funny spot. It s only 11 miles from the heart of Winona Countyand 13 from the
fairgrounds, yet most people never know it even exists. There are maybe four hundred people;
however, you would not know it in the winter. It s a ghost town then. The old folks all leave for
Florida or somewhere else, somewhere nice. Despite the flaws, Altura has a lot to offer all year

life. The months leading up to it are pretty busy. I m not sure who does it, but the town gets pretty

Fate And Fate In The Open Boat By Stephen Crane
Title
They then briefly exchanged some addresses and admonition. As for the reflections of the men,
there was a great deal of rage in them. Perchance they might be formulated thus: If I am going to
drowned if I am going to be drowned if I am going to be drowned, why, in the name of the seven
mad gods who rule the sea, was I allowed to come this far and contemplate sand and trees? Was I
brought here merely to have my nose dragged away as I was about to nibble the sacred cheese of
life? It is preposterous. If this old ninny woman, Fate, cannot do better than this, she should be
deprived of the management of men s fortunes. She is an old hen who knows not her intention. If
she has decided to drown me, why did she not do it in the beginning and save me all this trouble.
The whole affair is absurd...But, no, she cannot mean to drown me. She dares not drown me. She
cannot drown me. Not after all this work.: Afterward the man might have had an impulse to shake
his fist at the clouds, Just you drown me, now, and then hear what I call you! (Crane 7)
The Open Boat is a tragic tale by Stephen Crane of four men contemplating what seems like their
inevitable death. This paragraph above serves as a quality passage on its own and as an interesting
part of the entire story as the author repeats it often. The text is a beautiful paragraph, perhaps the
most flowery writing in the entire work. Lines such as to nibble the sacred cheese of life and name
of the seven mad gods who

The scene which shows the cart wheel and the water wheel moving in different directions signify
the contradictions in the world of feudal class and working class. In the same film, director has also

The Controversy Over Gay Parent Adoption
Gay Parent Adoptions
Many states laws deny children in foster care, healthy, loving homes simply because of a
potential parent s sexual orientation (Gray, 2006), The catholic church as well as other
organization s oppose gay adoption based upon religious teachings, while others debate the
legality of it (Gray, 2006). In today s society, many children grow up to be emotionally stable and
successful whether they have a heterosexual couple as parents or a same sex couple as parents.
Gay parent adoptions are an equal right, as they are becoming more mainstream and are as equally
stable as heterosexual adoptions.
Adoption Process
Problems of neglect and abuse begin in the biological home when the biological parents are using
drugs or alcohol. Children s Services are called in to remove the children from the home and are
placed into foster care. It is then that the biological parents of the children have two years to
complete counseling or a treatment program to regain the custody of their children from the State.
If, after these two years the biological parent has not been successful in their program, the State
maintains custody of the children and the children are then legally up for adoption. All prospective
adoptive parents must complete a home study (parenting classes) to verify their competency. Once
completed, the parents search for their adoptive child.
Local and state governments play an important role in gay parent adoptions. Two states, Mississippi
and Utah,

HYPOTHESES
A hypothesis is a statement of prediction. A proposition is a statement about certain concepts that
can be judged true or false. When a proposition begins to be tested, it is known as a hypothesis.
(Cooper amp; Schindler, 2011). A hypotheses act as a tentative and conjectural nature between two
or more variables within a research. There are many types of hypotheses. Descriptive hypotheses are
one of the most common hypotheses. The existence, the size, the form, or the distribution of some
variable is stated in descriptive hypotheses (Cooper amp; Schindler, 2011). There are many
important functions of the hypotheses. For starters, it acts as a path for the study. It also
differentiates the facts relevant and those that are not. There are three qualifications that make

Universal Symbolism In Theatre
Many different approaches have been taking to theatre for many generations. One of the more
people interpretations would have to be symbolism. Symbolism uses objects or sayings to connect
situations main characters are going through. Symbolism in the theatre can be achieved via
characters, colour, movement, costume and props. This causes the audienceto think more and pay
closer attention to minor details in a play. Symbolism is also a powerful force for communicating
meaning; certain themes or ideas affect the mind of the audience more profoundly when presented
indirectly through a symbol than when presented overtly. Plays have been popular among many
different cultures and they will often use symbolism to drive home ideas. Symbolism is used to
leave the audience thinking about underlying issues antaganists are going through.... Show more

Foremost among them was a former prisoner who had served nearly seventeen years behind bars.
This consultant made us aware of what it was like to be a prisoner. He also introduced us to a
number of other ex convicts and correctional personnel during an earlier Stanford summer school
class we co taught on The Psychology of Imprisonment. Our prison was constructed by boarding up
each end of a corridor in the basement of Stanford s Psychology Department building. That
corridor was The Yard and was the only outside place where prisoners were allowed to walk, eat, or
exercise, except to go to the toilet down the hallway (which prisoners did blindfolded so as not to
know the way out of the prison). To create prison cells, we took the doors off some laboratory
rooms and replaced them with specially made doors with steel bars and cell numbers.
At one end of the hall was a small opening through which we could videotape and record the
events that occurred. On the side of the corridor opposite the cells was a small closet which
became The Hole, or solitary confinement. It was dark and very confining, about two feet wide and
two feet deep, but tall enough that a bad prisoner could stand up. An intercom system allowed us to
secretly bug the cells to monitor what the prisoners discussed, and also to make public
announcements to the prisoners.

Jimi Henderson Analysis
David Henderson, an African American poet, wrote the article Jimi Hendrix Deep Within the
Blues and Alive Onstage at Woodstock 25 Years After Death to show how Jimi Hendrix has
continued to influence many people after his untimely death. Additionally, Henderson claims
that no other musician has been able to replicate Hendrix s precise and rapid picking and his
recognizance of sound and noise. Henderson personally knew Hendrix as he previously wrote his
book Scuse Me While I Kiss The Sky to express his opinion on popular black music at the time
and as a promise he made to Hendrix at a nightclub in Manhattan in 1969. It is impossible to deny
that Jimi Hendrixhas not continued to be one of the most influential music artists due to his unique
way of play[ing] with feedback, control[ing] it, and make[ing] it melodic. A skill that no other
musical artist has been able to replicate. Another important aspect of Hendrix s life... Show more

In addition, many modern musicians have paid homage to Hendrix by performing covers of his
songs. Examples include when the Red Hot Chili Peppers performed Fire and when Living
Colour performed Crosstown Traffic in their tribute album. Jimi Hendrix has even had some
influence over the rap genre with well known rapper, Future naming his second album HNDRXX.
Henderson also states that to listen to Hendrix today is constantly to be reminded of his gifts.
Hendrix is highly regarded as one of the best guitarist in history even though his musical career
only spanned four years. With his psychedelic inspired riffs, improvisational ability and his ability
to range between pure blues and avant garde jazz forms it is no surprise that he is often referred to
as a virtuoso artist on

My Experience At The Teton Valley Ranch Camp Essay
When I was taking a photo of the purple sky and two stretching lakes across the Bonney Pass in
the Teton Mountains; I knew this place that I loved had transformed me into a better person and a
more confident woman.
When I submitted the lengthy application to the Teton Valley Ranch Camp in Dubois, Wyomingmy
mind kept sinking back to the fear of flying away to my comfortable close knit home to work at a
ranch camp 2,610 miles away. My mom persisted that I should do something different with my
summer. After being a camper at the Teton Valley Ranch Camp, I thought it would be nice to
contribute some of my time to the place that made me outdoorsy and confident woman. However,
I did not want to leave the summer before college started. I wanted to stay in the same routine
with my friends who lived on Nantucket Island. I did not want to meet new coworkers, far away
from home was daunting. I enjoyed my circle of friends in Nantucket because I was comfortable
with my everyday routine. Visions of anxiety swept over my mind; the fear crept over my mind
with the years of high school which constrained my personality. The boarding school years
trapped me in like a prison with no welcoming smiles. I wanted to return to my happy place in
Nantucket with my friends. Despite my fears, I continued to think of the outcome of going to a
new place far away, that could be life changing. Life is not about being sheltered and always
feeling comfortable, the bumpy rollercoaster is the best way to

Lennie Monologue
Running through branches and high standing grass, I sprint as fast as my body will move.
Insure about how much energy my body has left, I keep pacing a constant speed to catch up to
Lennie. As the forest begins to come to an end, there is a lengthy creek that comes to view.
Hesitating, I plunge into the water trying to find my dear friend Lennie. Just as I think there is
no hope on finding him I see a movement out of the corner of my eye. Thinking it was just an
animal, I turn away not even realizing that the animal was Lennie. Lennie, terror stricken and
drizzling, is standing right in front of me. I try to dash toward him, but since my legs are in the
water they don t seem to move quickly. Not even bothered about how slowly my feet are moving
I still leap toward him in excitement. Since we were hugging I didn t even realize that the neighing
and running footsteps of the men s horse were drawing closer to us. Lennie, we have to get outta

Lean Six Sigma And Benchmarking
Quality is a measure of excellence that conforms to requirements and free from defects in a service
or product and which meets the standards for a customer. Benchmarking is a method to compare
the key metrics of their day to day operation with other companies in the same industry
(Marksberry, 2011). This helps the companies to identify how they are performing, how they can
improve their processes and systems and in turn become more competitive. Benching marking is a

Film Industry Depression
Movies have always been an important part of American s lives. They are a way to escape
everyday life and experience action and adventure of some sort. Throughout time, movies have
developed into what they are today. During a time of depression and economic worries, The
Hollywood Movie Industry flourished and greatly influenced people s lives in the 1930s. The
movies were a captivating escape from the reality of the depression. During a time of economic
hardship, people needed something to hold onto and hope for. For many, movies was this hope.

others, influenced the style and way of life for many. Some movies helped to solve issues, such
as I am a Fugitive from the Chain Game. This movie promoted the reform of corrupt courts in
the 1930s (Press 92). Another movie at the time taught the lesson that it is not about the

other movies were simply popular because of the current culture, and because of how well done
they were. For example, Gone with the Wind is one of the best known movies in American
history and was set in the time of the Civil War (1930s: At a Glance 370). Another extremely
popular movie was the 1939 musical, The Wizard of Oz, because it whisked audiences away into

In an attempt to answer the former questions, this humble work is a combination of three chapters:
The first chapter entitled: The Profile of Women in the British Society during the Nineteenth
Century, is connected with the social history of women at that time, in addition to their status,
position, rights, and the social classes they came from. It provides a description of the kind of
education that the Victorian girls have received. Moreover, it gives a vision of married women and
their rights, and the issues of sex, divorce, and spinsters as well. The second chapter entitled: The
Long Road for Women s Suffrage, begins with the feminist s arguments about women which
warmed the demand for the women s suffrage in the late 19th century and early twentieth century. It
analyses in detail the propaganda material used by the suffrage movement and examines the
interaction between the way the suffrage organisations viewed and related to the political system,
and the way political leaders and parties viewed and acted in response to suffrage activities. It

The movie was dependent on the story line itself and not on visual effects. The story is about an
individual s experience bereft of any sci fi or hard action scenes that did not necessitate the need
for more complex and demanding art direction. Posters and other teasers released for the film
often comes in the warm colors of brown, yellow and something akin to sepia tone which is very
warm and compliments the warmth on the face and character of Sean Connery. The art direction
also settled for easily readable typography. Photography captured the softness in the physical
characteristics of Connery and Brown and transforms it as visual cue for the audience to lead them
towards feeling the unexpected emotional bond that these two men will share in the story.
Acting
As one of Sean Connery s dramatic movies that earned many positive remarks from critics, Finding
Forrester can be judged acting wise as a movie that reflects the emotional acting style of both
Connery and Brown. As usual, Connery brings to the table his father like demeanor that enhanced
his acting, while Brown was effective in playing the student who looks for an idol to look up to,

Analysis Of D. Cross Academy
In the process of being rewritten :D
Cross Academy was a prestigious boarding school known for its state of the art education system
and gothic architecture. Countless arched windows littered around every inch of the building,
showering the interior with beams of glimmering light. Yet somehow the structure seemed to retain
its somber atmosphere. As if it housed something unknown. Cross Academywas an elite school for
the rich and talented, with an extensive campus enveloped in a thick grove of wild trees and
exuberant greenery flourishing in the new season. During this time of year chromatic flowers
bloomed across the forest floor. Large petals eagerly emerged from the flowers core after a long
year of arduous waiting, sparkling in the sun and offering the rather gloomy establishment a facade
of warmth, hiding it for what it truly was. For Cross Academy wasn t so innocent. Deep inside its

In this argument to determine if Hammurabi s code is just, I agree to say that this set of laws is

Fish Cheeks By Amy Tan
Amy Tan s short story, Fish Cheeks, outlines the general idea of self acceptance. As the narrator,
fourteen year old Tan declares her love for her minister s son, Robert, who unlike herself, is as
white as Mary in the manger (Tan 1). This crush is anything but healthy, primarily because Tan is
reluctant to reveal her true self to him. This hesitance she portrays is strikingly recognizable in the
teenagers of today s world. Amy Tan s story, Fish Cheeks, is significant to the adolescents
of today s
society through the overall structure, quality, and applicability of the piece as the struggle to
accept oneself as an individual is still as present as it ever was.
As the story develops, the reader s thoughts are guided by the structure of the piece in a way that
Tan is able to share an important lesson through the form of a personal narrative. The opening text
immediately introduces the narrator and her insecurities as she wishes for a slim new American
nose (Tan 1). The story initially takes on a negative tone as Tan proceeds to have a negative

Essay on Kane, Gatsby, And The American Dream
The Great Gatsby written by F. Scott Fitzgerald and Citizen Kane a movie directed by Orson
Welles are both monumental stories in American society as they both represent the American
dream at it s most brilliant high. The Great Gatsby is all about time and the American dream; it
is essentially what consumes Gatsby. Both Kane and Gatsby are representations of the American
dream, and as we read into their stories we see that time and the dream become so intertwined
that it is hard to see them apart. Other key factors play into this such as the failed pursuit of love
and being in a sea of admirers and feeling like you are the only person there. Jay Gatsbyreinvents
himself at the ripe young age of seventeen; this is when he officially... Show more content on

Unlike Gatsby however, Kane would like to relive his childhood, something Gatsby destroyed.
Kane s last utterance, rosebud is a large standing testament to his want to return to childhood.
Throughout the movie we see him as a large, powerful figure that is newsworthy for scandals
and successes among other things. We realize though that the things that made him who he was,
were not the things that made him such a renowned figure, it was the things that drove him and
although we never truly understand what those things are, we can speculate. And the last word,
rosebud is certainly an argument to that because it is the last thing we understand of him, and it
is essentially him being at his most venerable and most alone time. When he leaves his family he
is embarking on a lonely trail, Thatcher is a money obsessed business mogul and therefore does
not develop Kane or even try to create a solid relationship with him, which sets Kane up for a
lifestyle of loneliness. This loneliness extends into his business deals as he takes the world by
storm. Scandal suppresses both Kane and Gatsby, Gatsby loses his life because of it and Kane
loses an election that he had in the

The Global Ascent Of The Nation State Essay
Those born after 1980 may take for granted the fact that the world is made up of about 200 nation
states, which appear to be more or less equal in terms of the legitimacy of their nationhood.
However, history suggests that not all nation states are created in quite the same way. According to
Wimmer and Feinstein: the global ascent of the nation state over the pass 200 years was a
discontinuous process, unfolding in various waves linked to the break up of large empires. By
comparing the creation of nation states in the nineteenth century to those of the twentieth century, it
is evident that, while the end result was the same, the means of creating nation states can be quite
different. There are many factors and events which lead up to independence and nation state
creation, such as nationalist sentiment, revolution, war, treaties, and tensions between people and
rulers.
Nation states created in the nineteenth century are more akin to what Montserrat Guibernau defines
as nations . Based on Guibernau s definition, nations are groups of people conscious of forming a
community, and they share a common past and culture. Conversely, in the process of creating a
nation state, a group hopes to develop the community after the fact. Nation states may be the result
of a treaty or consolidation of ethnic territories, meaning their histories can be fragmented and
incongruent. The new nation states of the nineteenth century, namely of France and the United
States of America, are

The Roles Of Monogatari
Male domination even in the world of literature is a widely accepted fact in the West prior to the
19th century. However, it does not purport the same phenomenon that women were not writing
literature in the far eastern Asian continents. Japan, being one of the many, produced literature
such as Japanese folk tales and fables locally known as monogatari. History even tells that men
were often disinterested on these, so, in cases when the author has not been identified or the
identity of the author has not survived the test of time, all archived monogatari may be attributed
to women. Incorporating all the western classics will take decades, centuries even and it is, quite
possibly, the main reason why a very few scholars and citizens are, more... Show more content on

One of the scenes in the second chapter is the famous rainy night conversation between Genji,
his closest male companion (the Secretary Captain), and two other men of little consequence as
they discuss women and past love affairs. The scene is immediately painted following the first
chapter, serving to introduce Genji s background and position him at the center of the narrative.
Hence, the rainy night conversation is essentially allows the readers to dig in further into the
plot. Frequently, in between conversations, direct allusions are made to women who will later
become significant figures in at least an episode if not in the entire tale. For example, the
Secretary Captain expresses the view that even among those known as Governors can be found
a house [which] boasts every luxury, and all those daughters of his, showered with love and
dazzling wealth, grow up in grand style. Girls like that often do better in palace service than you
might imagine (Tale of Genji 23). Readers who are familiar with the characters in the novel will
find themselves remembering Genji s Akashi Lady who goes on to do so well in Genji s service
that she achieves the unheard of (for a Governor s daughter) rank of birth mother to an

Susan Glaspell’s Trifles Essay
The first reading I enjoyed was Susan Glaspell s Trifles . The main character in the plat is a
sheriff, his wife, the county attorney, and Mr. and Mrs. Hale. The opening scene is all of them in
John Wright s kitchen. Mr. Hale tells the sheriff and attorney how he a visited the house on the
day before day and Mrs. Wright greeted him but her demeanor was little suspicions. She told him
that her husband was upstairs dead. She says she was asleep when someone choked her husband to
death. All the men suspect she is the murderer. While the men look for evidence in the house they
criticize Mrs. Wright s housekeeping skills and that really irritates Mrs. Hale and Mrs. Peter, the

Struggles Of A Rapid Ascension Of Fame
Struggles of a Rapid Ascension to Fame Rap star G Eazy, born Gerald Earl Gillum, may only be
twenty seven years old but he has played on the same stage as legends such as Jimi Hendrix and
the Beatles to U2 and John Denver to Prince and Macklemore and many more. Coming off his
sophomore album, When It s Dark Out released December 4th, 2015, his career is reaching new
levels of popularity which isn t all it s cut out to be. This album, which featured his triple
platinum single Me, Myself I featuring Bebe Rexha, brings a spotlight to tragedies in his past
and the rollercoaster that was the past two years , said Gerald in an interview with
billboard.com s Adelle Platon. His most popular song, Me, Myself, I released on October 14th,
2015, was released as the lead single for his upcoming album, When It s Dark Out. Me, Myself, I
is in a moderato tempo and in a c minor key, a common key and tempo among the hip hop genre.
In Me Myself and I by G Eazy, Gerald comes to terms with the aspects of being famous and
forever in the spotlight, which he wanted but didn t realize everything else that came with it. He
does this through his thought out lyrics and his use of artistic discretion in the music video that he
released shortly after the song. Within his music video, G Eazy begins by being driven back home
by his foreign girlfriend, a status symbol of superstar lifestyle, and when he gets home he is thrown
a surprise partyfor his birthday. Just before the beginning of

Disadvantages Of The Labor Market
Introduction:
Labour market is an abstarction and analytical construction which denotes the context within which
the buyers and sellers of labour come together to determine the pricing and allocation of labour
services. It also emphasizes the involvement of trade unions, government and other related
institutional bodies as well as the application of the bargaining theory in the issue of labour.
Key words: Washington Consensus, Labour Market, Labour Market Flexibility.
The Washington Consensus is a set of 10 economic policy prescriptions considered to constitute the
standard reform package promoted for crisis wracked developing countries Washington, D.C. based
institutions such as the international Monetary Fund (IMF), World Bank, and the US Treasury
Department. The term was first used in 1989 by English ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Higher search costs for workers needing to find new jobs. Also firms may have higher
replacement costs for hiring more workers. Firms may end up paying a premium to employment
agencies to help fill gaps in their workforce.
Advantages of Flexible Labour Markets
1.Firms will be more efficient and competitive. Flexible labour markets help keep costs down for
firms. For example, firms can get rid of surplus workers. This may help prevent the firm going
bankrupt and protect jobs in the long term. Arguably with neo liberalisation, it is increasingly
important for firms to remain competitive within the global economy.
2.With increased labour productivity there could be an increase in output and exports. There could
be a lower rate of natural unemployment and lower inflation.
3.Many workers will prefer flexible employment patterns because it suits their life style and offers
a greater range of choice. For example, flexible labour markets have played a role in increasing
female participation rates.
4.May encourage inward investment. Multinational firms may be attracted to invest in countries
with more flexible labour markets, creating jobs in the first

Hundred Days Dbq
The Hundred Days , was a time period which took place during the first three months of Roosevelt
s presidency. During this time period, FDR was determined to restore the American economy,
therefore, he passed numerous laws as soon as he became president. He convinced Congress to
establish many new famous agencies such as the AAA and the CCC. The significance of these new
laws and agencies is that this is the first time a president used his presidential power this quickly or
helped the federal government impact each American citizen s life to this extent. While some
people complained about some changes, most American citizens understood that Roosevelt was
taking the direct, vigorous action that he had promised in his previous inaugural address.
During the Hundred Days, the government worked hard on trying to give economic assistance to
anyone in need. One of the first few acts that took place during the Hundred Days was the

This system was created in order to fix the agricultural decline. During the Great Depression, there
were many food surpluses which caused everything to be cheap. Due to the cheaper prices,
millions of farmers were left without any money. In order to fix this issue, the AAA tried to raise
the prices of crops by stopping crops from being grown in surplus. Farmers also received money to
destroy their own farms, crops, and animals. Despite this disturbing scene, the ruined products and
animals were used to help out the country in numerous different ways. For example, products made
from butter, cheese, animals, or flower, were given to unemployed families. In 1936, the AAA was

Ptolemy s geocentric model explained that the planets moved backwards because the planets
moved around in small orbit called the epicycle that revolved in much larger circles around
Earth. 17) How did Copernicus heliocentric model explain why the planets sometimes move
backwards? Copernicus heliocentric model explained that the planets sometimes move
backwards by coming up with the idea that Earth and all the other planets circled the sun. He also
concluded that if a planet was closer to the sun the great the orbital speed it would have. Kepler s
3rd law, p^2 = a^3, applies to all objects orbiting our Sun. In this law p is the period of time it takes
an object to orbit the Sun, as measured in years, and a is the semi major axis of this planet s orbit
(its average distance to the Sun), as measured in AU.Using algebra we can solve for either p = a^(3
/2) or a = p^(2/3). 18) Suppose we discover an asteroid that is 4.0 AU from the Sun. How much
time would it takes this asteroid to complete an orbit? P^2=a^3 8^2=4^3 64=64 It would take 8

Turtles Still Swimming
The article that was more effective on achieving its purpose between the two articles, After Spill,
Sea Turtles Still Swimming and For the Turtles both by Achieve 3000, is After Spill, Sea Turtles
Still Swimming . The reason why I say this is because according to Achieve 3000, she says, To the
female sea turtle, her nesting activity was nothing out of the ordinary for that time of year. But to
the crowd, the reptiles presence was significant; it meant that she and likely more of her species
had survived the disastrous April 2010 oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. What the author is saying
is that scientists and citizens are excited to see that the sea turtles have survived. This shows
why After Spill, Sea Turtles Still Swimming is more effective on achieving its purpose because
this evidence shows more about what the article is talking about. Along with that it shows how
well the scientists did when saving the sea turtles. Going along with that, Achieve 3000 writes,
According to Shaver s tallies, the Kemp s ridleys numbers look very good. In May, at the peak of
the turtles nesting season, 155 Kemp s ridley nests were spotted on Texas shores. This is more
than were counted in all of 2010, and more than had been counted by that point in 2009 and 2008.
What the author is saying here is that the numbers show how the sea turtles are recovering well.

Drug Addiction
A drug addiction is an ongoing need to use drugs. It is also called substance dependence, because
the person may depend on drugs to continue functioning normally. Like any addiction, it involves a
craving, or strong want, that is very hard to control.[1] When the addict is no longer able to use the
drug, they will suffer from withdrawal.[2]
A person usually become addicted to specific kinds of drugs, the use of which may or may not be

A person who may easily become addicted to drugs is said to have an addictive personality. The

The Adventures Of Tom Sawyer And The Adventures Of...
For decades, the idea of censorship has been an ongoing controversy in society debating on if it
is acceptable to change an author s intended diction in a text. While it is evident that in writing,
texts are often censored for their explicit language in order to preserve the peace of the novel,
regardless of its intended audience. Censorship is known as the act of suppressing or editing a
part of a text to make it more acceptable towards a certain audience or part of society. When
considering the education of minors, the ongoing controversy involves this following idea: is it
fair to edit an author s work to easier appeal to minors or would it be easier to completely ban the
book from libraries and classrooms? This controversy is relevant towards Mark Twain, a world
famous author well known for his novels titled The Adventures of Tom Sawyer and The Adventures
of Huckleberry Finn(Huck Finn).
As stated by an English professor at Texas State University, The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn
can be recognized as the most famous, most beloved, and most controversial novel featuring a
prominent black character and written by a white author (Tally Jr. 97). As this novel was written in
1884, it is significant to consider that Twain was writing during a time of extreme discrimination
and hatred against the African American community a time in history also known as the Jim Crow
Era. With this in mind, it is correct to assume that the use of the word nigger was a common part of

Josiah Strong is mostly concerned that Catholicism and Mormonism is a treat to the progressive
nature of the United States. He has a much greater fear of the Catholics or Romans as he calls
them. He believes that what they stand for is a danger to the declaration of independence based
on the ideas they stand for. The examples he gives are that the Catholics are opposed to the public
school system, approve union of church and state, censor freedom of press and speech, teach
religious intolerance instead of liberty, they have loyalty to the popeand not to the states, abide by
the commands of the pope and not of the constitution, and they have sovereignty for the pope and
not the people (371) He questions how the Catholics could both swear loyalty

It s a small place surrounded by cornfields. It s cozy. I mean, if you like the small town feel, Altura is the place to be! I bet if you stood on one end of Main Street, you could spit into the farthest yard on the other end. Altura is in a sort of funny spot. • 14. Fate And Fate In The Open Boat By Stephen Crane Title They then briefly exchanged some addresses and admonition. As for the reflections of the men, there was a great deal of rage in them. Perchance they might be formulated thus: If I am going to drowned if I am going to be drowned if I am going to be drowned, why, in the name of the seven mad gods who rule the sea, was I allowed to come this far and contemplate sand and trees? Was I brought here merely to have my nose dragged away as I was about to nibble the sacred cheese of life? It is preposterous. If this old ninny woman, Fate, cannot do better than this, she should be deprived of the management of men s fortunes. She is an old hen who knows not her intention. If she has decided to drown me, why did she not do it in the beginning and save me all this trouble. The whole affair is absurd...But, no, she cannot mean to drown me. She dares not drown me. She cannot drown me. Not after all this work.: Afterward the man might have had an impulse to shake his fist at the clouds, Just you drown me, now, and then hear what I call you! (Crane 7) The Open Boat is a tragic tale by Stephen Crane of four men contemplating what seems like their inevitable death. Gay parent adoptions are an equal right, as they are becoming more mainstream and are as equally stable as heterosexual adoptions. Adoption Process Problems of neglect and abuse begin in the biological home when the biological parents are using drugs or alcohol. Children s Services are called in to remove the children from the home and are placed into foster care. It is then that the biological parents of the children have two years to complete counseling or a treatment program to regain the custody of their children from the State. If, after these two years the biological parent has not been successful in their program, the State maintains custody of the children and the children are then legally up for adoption. Our prison was constructed by boarding up each end of a corridor in the basement of Stanford s Psychology Department building. That corridor was The Yard and was the only outside place where prisoners were allowed to walk, eat, or exercise, except to go to the toilet down the hallway (which prisoners did blindfolded so as not to know the way out of the prison). To create prison cells, we took the doors off some laboratory rooms and replaced them with specially made doors with steel bars and cell numbers. At one end of the hall was a small opening through which we could videotape and record the events that occurred. On the side of the corridor opposite the cells was a small closet which became The Hole, or solitary confinement. It was dark and very confining, about two feet wide and two feet deep, but tall enough that a bad prisoner could stand up. An intercom system allowed us to secretly bug the cells to monitor what the prisoners discussed, and also to make public announcements to the prisoners. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The King Of Thailand s Philosophy Of Sufficient Economy This paper takes a look at the King of Thailand s philosophy of Sufficiency Economy which contains a Buddhist belief that stresses the middle path as a prime principle for proper conduct by all levels of the population. Thailandwas well known for its agricultural commodities and being one of the world s top rice exporters despite being a developing country faced with challenges such as economic growth and poverty. The King articulated in a 1974 royal speech, If one focuses only on rapid economic expansion without making sure that such a plan is appropriate for our people and the condition of our country, it will inevitably result in various imbalances and eventually end up as failure or crisis in other countries (Cited by He Changchui at International Workshop on Sufficiency Economy on 27 July 2006). It was focused on the story of boy who is looking for a role model and finding it in the most unexpected place and the most unexpected person. The movie tells about the journey not just of Jamal Wallace but also of the journey of William Forrester especially during the last few years of his life. It was a story that presented life in its beginning and its ending and how the two are intertwined. Wallace s life was just beginning while Forrester s was ending. Posters and other teasers released for the film often comes in the warm colors of brown, yellow and something akin to sepia tone which is very warm and compliments the warmth on the face and character of Sean Connery. The art direction also settled for easily readable typography. Photography captured the softness in the physical characteristics of Connery and Brown and transforms it as visual cue for the audience to lead them towards feeling the unexpected emotional bond that these two men will share in the story. Acting As one of Sean Connery s dramatic movies that earned many positive remarks from critics, Finding Forrester can be judged acting wise as a movie that reflects the emotional acting style of both Connery and Brown. As usual, Connery brings to the table his father like demeanor that enhanced his acting, while Brown was effective in playing the student who looks for an idol to look up to, and finding it in Connery s character in the movie. Countless arched windows littered around every inch of the building, showering the interior with beams of glimmering light. Yet somehow the structure seemed to retain its somber atmosphere. As if it housed something unknown. Cross Academywas an elite school for the rich and talented, with an extensive campus enveloped in a thick grove of wild trees and exuberant greenery flourishing in the new season. During this time of year chromatic flowers bloomed across the forest floor. Large petals eagerly emerged from the flowers core after a long year of arduous waiting, sparkling in the sun and offering the rather gloomy establishment a facade of warmth, hiding it for what it truly was. For Cross Academy wasn t so innocent. Deep inside its matured walls held something frightful. Vampires. The school day was split into two schedules. In the day, students from the sun dorms, the Day Class, departed to the main building for their first class. However during the evening the main building entertained the creatures of the dark. As the narrator, fourteen year old Tan declares her love for her minister s son, Robert, who unlike herself, is as white as Mary in the manger (Tan 1). This crush is anything but healthy, primarily because Tan is reluctant to reveal her true self to him. This hesitance she portrays is strikingly recognizable in the teenagers of today s world. Amy Tan s story, Fish Cheeks, is significant to the adolescents of today s society through the overall structure, quality, and applicability of the piece as the struggle to accept oneself as an individual is still as present as it ever was. As the story develops, the reader s thoughts are guided by the structure of the piece in a way that Tan is able to share an important lesson through the form of a personal narrative. The opening text immediately introduces the narrator and her insecurities as she wishes for a slim new American nose (Tan 1). The story initially takes on a negative tone as Tan proceeds to have a negative outlook throughout the entire evening. Her overwhelming anxiety can almost be felt by the reader as she worries what Robert will think of her noisy Chinese relatives who lacked proper American manners and overall shabby Chinese Christmas (Tan 1). With the tone set, Tan continues to amplify each dreadful detail of her family s traditional Christmas Eve dinner. This includes the actual meal, that of which appeared to be ... Both Kane and Gatsby are representations of the American dream, and as we read into their stories we see that time and the dream become so intertwined that it is hard to see them apart. We realize though that the things that made him who he was, were not the things that made him such a renowned figure, it was the things that drove him and although we never truly understand what those things are, we can speculate. • 42. The Global Ascent Of The Nation State Essay Those born after 1980 may take for granted the fact that the world is made up of about 200 nation states, which appear to be more or less equal in terms of the legitimacy of their nationhood. However, history suggests that not all nation states are created in quite the same way. According to Wimmer and Feinstein: the global ascent of the nation state over the pass 200 years was a discontinuous process, unfolding in various waves linked to the break up of large empires. By comparing the creation of nation states in the nineteenth century to those of the twentieth century, it is evident that, while the end result was the same, the means of creating nation states can be quite different. There are many factors and events which lead up to independence and nation state creation, such as nationalist sentiment, revolution, war, treaties, and tensions between people and rulers. Nation states created in the nineteenth century are more akin to what Montserrat Guibernau defines as nations . Based on Guibernau s definition, nations are groups of people conscious of forming a community, and they share a common past and culture. Conversely, in the process of creating a nation state, a group hopes to develop the community after the fact. Nation states may be the result of a treaty or consolidation of ethnic territories, meaning their histories can be fragmented and incongruent. Censorship is known as the act of suppressing or editing a part of a text to make it more acceptable towards a certain audience or part of society. When considering the education of minors, the ongoing controversy involves this following idea: is it fair to edit an author s work to easier appeal to minors or would it be easier to completely ban the book from libraries and classrooms?
