Media theorist Jean Baudrillard believed that the media simplifies reality and conspires with elite powers to present reality in a way that satisfies their agendas. He argued that through television, films and other media, the line between reality and hyperreality has blurred, with the mediated world becoming more "real" than real life. Baudrillard used the examples of people auditioning for shows like The X Factor, expecting fame irrespective of talent, to show how the media makes extraordinary lives seem attainable. He believed life has become like a virtual reality video game with false realities and impressions mixed with information so that the difference between reality and simulation is indistinguishable.
