Daniel Wilkie Case
The three main directors involved in this case were Daniel Wilkie who was the chief operating officer,
Timothy Mainprize who was the chief financial officer and Stephen Burroughs who was the company
s manager (Lampe, 2005). The three directors were charged with charges of deceiving auditors and
dishonesty. Wilkie was charged with two offences of dishonesty as a company s officer and
misleading an auditor of the company, Mainprize was also charged with the same three offences and
Burroughs was charged with a misleading a company s auditor offence. The three directors made the
auditors and the investors of the company believe that it was adequately reserved. In other words, they
made these auditors and investors believe the company had attained an $8.6 million profit whereas it
had actually incurred a $ 19.1 million loss. Between 1 March and 6 May in the year 1998, Wilkie and
Mainprize, on behalf of the company, arranged with General Cologne Reinsurance Australia, that they
(FAI) would pay a premium of $67.5 million if they (General Cologne) would give back a reinsurance
benefit of $65 million. Between 23 June and 26 June 1998, the same two executives made another
deal with the same reinsurance company (General Cologne). This time FAI paid a premium of $89.7
million so that they could retain a benefit of $87 million. In another occasion between the 26 June and
September 9 1998, the two men made another deal with the same company, General Cologne. This
time, FAI paid $ 12.5

Symptoms And Symptoms Of Anxiety Disorder
It s safe to say that everyone gets the feeling of being worried or panicked at one time or another
during their lifetime. Those feelings are extremely common and natural and for most people they will
pass. If a person has these feelings and the feelings don t pass, then it s time to talk to a doctor about
possibly having a type of anxiety disorder.
There are seven types of anxiety disorder and they include generalized anxiety disorder, social anxiety,
separation anxiety, phobias, obsessive compulsive disorder, panic attacks, and post traumatic stress
disorder (Foa, Edna Andrews, Linda Wasmer, 2006). Generalized anxiety disorder occurs when a
person has an excessive or obsessive feeling of being worried and the feeling just won t go away. A lot
of times this happens when the person is thinking about something in the future that is going to
happen (Van Duyne, Sara, 2003). Maybe the person has a huge paper or test coming up at school, they
are getting married or having a baby, starting a new job, or even getting ready to go to their first day at
school. To diagnose a person with an anxiety disorder, the doctor should first look at the patient s
signs and symptoms.
There are quite a few different signs and symptoms a person can acquire when they have a generalized
anxiety disorder. They can experience fatigue, muscle tension, shaking of the hands, extreme
perspiring, restlessness, headaches, nausea, and an increase in their heartbeat (Mayo Clinic Staff,
2014). For

Characteristics Of The United Kingdom Judicial System
Introduction
The judicial system of the United Kingdom exists as a complex and intricate system of law that has
been practiced, and adjusted over a thousand years to reach the point as is known in the present. The
complexities of the judicial system presents itself as different variations of the legal system within the
United Kingdom, where although they have their differences, they also share certain similarities
between them. One such similarity is that they all hold certain requirements for Judges which exist as
a centralized idea within the judicial system, as they are not entirely separated between the varying
legal systems of the United Kingdom. The complexities and similarities of the United Kingdom s
judicial system will be explored through their: structure, documentation, categorization, and the
requirements of judges; where all of which will create a clearer picture to better understand how these
elements operate. The paper will be divided into two categories: the Judicial System, and the
Requirements of Judges. First, the judicial system will be explored through it s structure,
documentation, and classification of a legal system; and secondly will move into the certain
requirements that judges have in the United Kingdom. Both elements serve to essentially build a
foundation that explains a clearer picture of how the judicial system of the United Kingdom practices
law, and the expectations those in power hold.

Jurassic Park Research Papers
Jurassic Park is a movie based on the novel Jurassic Park by Michael Crichton. The movie of course,
like all films based off of books, is slightly different from the original novel. Yet, this title shares a
similar theme with its original piece of work. The recreation of dinosaurs. Sadly the Jurassic Park
version of dinosaur recreation will only make it harder to bring these extinct animals back to life. Our
real life scientists may be able to somewhat recreate dinosaurs through Artificial Embryo Twinning or
Somatic Cell Nuclear transfer. We have successfully cloned 20+ animals or recreated extinct animals
such as the Bucardo or Pyrenean Ibex.
The InGen scientist in Jurassic park use a form of Somatic Cell Nuclear Transfer. The scientists ...

Through this technique the scientist would have to grind up the Dinosaurs bones to extract blood cells
and proteins (Cloning and Dr. Loy). The only negative point in this form of recreation or cloning is
that it is ...used only as a backup to the cloning that produces a full strand of DNA... . Another way
would be like the InGen scientist using Somatic Cell Nuclear Transfer. The only precaution would be
to ensure that the blood or cells being extracted are actually from dinosaurs which at this point is
extremely difficult. Somatic Cell Nuclear Transfer is when and ovum is created with a donor nucleus.
First, the nucleus (containing the DNA) is removed and the rest of the cell is thrown out while the
nucleus of an egg cell is also removed. Next, the nucleus of the somatic cell is inserted into the egg
cells nucleus place. After the insertion, the host cell reprograms the somatic cell nucleus. The egg will
begin to divide. Lastly, after many mitotic divisions the single cell can form a blastocyst with closely
identical DNA to the original organism (SCNT).
Our efforts on recreating animals have been successful to an extent. Dolly the Sheep is a perfect
example of recreation (Roslin Institute, Scotland). Also animals such as the Bucardo (Bringing them
back to life) , Carp, Cumulina the mouse etc. (20 animals...). The Bucardo was successfully cloned

Marketing Strategy Of Bombardier As A Canadian Based...
Introduction
Bombardier is a Canadian based public company operating in the sector of manufacturing planes and
train in several countries. It was founded by Joseph Armand Bombardier in 1942. They key people
involved in the management are Pierre Beaudoin, Alain Bellemare and Lutz Bertling who are working
as Chairman, CEO and COO of the company respectively. Over the years, this company has utilized
its resources very well and followed a fantastic strategy of expansion. Most of the expansion was
made using inorganic strategy of expansion by acquiring various companies already running in the
industry which help Bombardier in quick rapid growth. This is quite clear as it has moved well in the
value system from making of snowmobiles to planes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In an effort to achieve this, Bombardier Capital (BC) was formed in 1973 with a focus to provide
services of loan, asset management and leasing throughout the Americas. In 2004, BC saw a major
setback as Moody s credit evaluation section downgrades BC ranking to questionable credit quality
from moderate credit risk. At this time, Bombardier decided to get rid of Bombardier Capital and sold
this to GE Commercial Finance. Though, such downgrade has not affected its train and plane business
sections. Since then, Bombardier s main focus is on plane and train segment and it is performing very
well.
International Marketing Mix
Marketing is a way to achieve the best results using the right product in the right place using the
accurate price at the correct time. A related concept of marketing is marketing mix. Marketing mix is a
term which was first introduced by Neil Borden in order to promote and sell a product in the market.
Later, it was refined by the Jerome McCarthy in the form of 4Ps. Since then, this 4Ps are the best tools

Hinduism Symbolism
II. Part A
The fascinating religion, Hinduism, is composed of multiple complex gods and goddesses and filled
with interesting traditions, all of which can be studied through ancient arts that depict various parts of
the religion. The great gods and goddesses of Hinduism serve with different purposes, roles and
depicts based of their stories. For instance, the god Shiva is known as the destroyer because of his
creative power and furiousness. One of his popular tales describes how he took on a powerful trinity
of tyrannical cities that were corrupting the city. Like most gods, Shiva is depicted with superhuman
qualities; he often has serpents on his neck and unkempt hair. Another great god, Vishnu, is quite the
opposite from Shiva because he is known as the preserver, of the universe especially. His role is to
observe the cycle of the world and make sure everything is preserved and goes well; also, his
depiction varies from the other great god, so he is represented with a flower in his (multiple) hands.
Additionally, goddesses are also valued in the Hindu religion; for example, the goddess, Durga, is
responsible for restoring moral order and often fights, but she still has compassion and love. She is
often represented on a lion for courage. The representation for each god and goddesses varies but each
accessory is symbolic to their powers. The main reason why they are depicted with various animal
parts, weapons, or other certain appearances that may be unhuman like, is to show

The Experiment The Solubility Of A Salt Lab
Discussion of Instructional Strategies
The lesson titled The Solubility of a Salt Lab was a lab practical that incorporated adjustments for
both the ELL student and the student with an IEP. The ELL student was partnered with a highly
motivated and helpful student who often displayed patience when working with peers. This student
was allowed to give oral responses to written responses on assessment, but then was also be
encouraged to attempt to write responses as well. The student with an IEP had a position assigned in
the lab in the corner with his left side isolated and his partner place on his better functioning right side
to take into consideration his difficulties processing language and from his left side. He was also
provided enlarged copies of lab data worksheets to assist him recording data and encouraging him to
show his calculations.
The lesson titled POGIL Saturated and Unsaturated Solutions incorporated the use of an online PhET
interactive simulation that is free and research based. The simulation s graphics correlate well with the
material in the POGIL lesson and served as a stimulating activity to introduce the students to the
concepts of concepts of concentration and saturation. Students were encouraged to use their own
internet devices (phones and tablets), those few students without devices were allowed to use the
smartboard to run some simulations. This resource has two modes; qualitative (no values) and

I determined the Fry readability of a tenth grade world history textbook, World History: Patterns of
Interaction published by _____ . I performed the required steps and determined that the average
readability level of this textbook is at the college level. Determining the readability of reading
material, including textbooks, is vital before working with students. The reading level of students in a
classroom can vary significantly. If textbooks are challenging to students reading above grade level
level, the effect on below average readers can be deleterious. The average student will be spending
significant academic energy focusing on decoding words and comprehending text rather than
visualizing and making connections to the reading.

The Effect Of Cortisol And Sleep On Memory
Question
Bennion, Steinmetz, Kensinger, and Payne (2013) addressed the overarching question of how cortisol,
sleep, and emotional arousal interact to influence memory. More specifically, they conducted a study
to investigate the following: 1) whether resting levels of the stress hormone cortisol affect memory
consolidation differently for emotional versus neutral stimuli, 2) whether this effect differs following a
period of sleep versus a period of wakefulness, 3) whether resting cortisol levels affect the relationship
between attention to stimuli during encoding and subsequent memory, and 4) whether this effect, too,
differs following a period of sleep versus wakefulness. These research questions were used to examine
the interaction ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although the authors initially presented their hypothesis as a dichotomous outcome, there were
several possible alternatives. Elevated cortisol could predict better subsequent memory for neutral
stimuli than for negative stimuli or have no effect on memory. Cortisol could have a greater effect
following the period of wakefulness than the period of sleep, or the Sleep/Wake condition could have
no effect. Results could also show only main effects of cortisol, valence, and sleep, with no interaction
effects, or cortisol levels could have no significant effect on memory, regardless of the valence of the
stimuli or the Sleep/Wake condition.
For the two research questions addressed during the second level of the study, Bennion et al. (2013)
hypothesized that elevated cortisol at encoding would promote an interaction between attention and
consolidation i.e., that objects viewed for a shorter duration of time would be more likely to be
forgotten, and objects viewed for a longer duration would be more likely to be remembered. They also
hypothesized that this effect would be greater following the period of sleep, and that neural activity in
memory retrieval would be centered on the limbic areas. This hypothesis also makes a reasonable
prediction based on prior research suggesting that neural activity for mental retrieval centers on the
limbic regions

Media Reports And Police Brutality
Media Reports and Police Brutality The purpose of my proposed research is to study the effect of
media reports on the current Americans perceptions of police brutality. Police brutality has been a
headline topic for debate for the past century. This topic s popularity has grown recently due to
advancements in media technology over the past two decades. Police brutality is a problem in the
United States for both, citizens and police officers. It is important to study the effect that mass media
coverage of police use of force has on Americans perceptions to find out if the initial coverage of
these events creates a bias in them. It has been found that celebrated crime events are portrayed
differently than normal crime reports on the news; ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The outcome is disrespect for police officers and people disobeying commands; which can cause
dangerous situations. This leads to the proposed research question; Do media reports effect the current
Americans perception of police brutality? Looking at this information can help explain some hostility
towards law enforcement. This research will look at data collected by multiple surveys and field
research that has been carried out over the past decade. The data that is collected will be able to give
us a better look at the amount of media the public consumes and what their perceptions are on police
brutality. This proposal will review the research and data collected by others who have previously
studied this topic and outline a new study. Prior studies have examined the media s effect on the public
s perception on how effective the police are. The proposed study will attempt to look deeper into how
much the media truly effects how often the public perceives that misconduct and brutality incidence
occur among police forces. Literature Review These articles attempt to find out what the public s
views are on the police; mainly their views on how prevalent police misconduct and police brutality is.
The studies that are reviewed and carried out in these sources are important to the criminal justice
system because they portray the effects that the media has on the public s perception of the job

Montgomery Bus Boycott Essay
The Montgomery Bus Boycott was a political and social protest campaign started in 1955 in
Montgomery, Alabama. The law said that black people had to sit in the back of the bus while the the
white people sat in the front. Bus drivers often referred to black people on the bus as nigger, black
cow, or black ape. Blacks had to pay in the front of the bus and they had to get off to go threw the side
door to sit in the back.

African Americans in many part of the nation said they were being treated badly and no one could

the day the Montgomery bus boycott started.
On the morning of parks trial buses rumbled nearly empty through the streets of Montgomery. By the
next morning the council led by Jo Ann Robinson had printed 52,000 fliers asking, Montgomery
blacks to stay off the buses. It was an important and an accepted rule that whites sit in the front and

What Does Cobie Cailop Try Essay
The standards society hold for women today are wiped away in Colbie Caillat s song Try. Caillat uses
simplicity and a contemporary music style in Try to convey the suffocation women feel because they
try to live up to these stereotypes in the 21st century. When Caillat wrote her song, she used repetition
of her lyrics to hit home the theme that women are beautiful inside and out. Caillat stated in an
interview that When you have a cute outfit on and your makeup looks amazing, the first thing people

proceeds, along with the other women, to take off the makeup, and in some cases hair extensions and a
wig, to un Photoshop themselves. A lot of close up shots showed only their faces, and side by side
videos of before and after as the women wiped off their makeup with solemn faces, but showed
smiling or laughing faces when not wearing makeup. I saw relief in their faces as they accepted
themselves, and they showed the world their happiness as it literally shined out of their faces like
sunbeams. They stared directly into the camera, challenging it as they sang along with Caillat s words.
Although this song carries a strong body positivity message, the imperfections bore proudly by the
women in the video are the imperfections deemed appropriate, or more common, to society such as
being overweight, having a gap in between teeth, frizzy hair, freckles, and wrinkles. The lighting was

Historical Background Of Health Care Essay
Historical Background
Health care in Canada is delivered through a publicly funded health care system called Medicare,
which is a universal coverage, single payer plan for all Canadians and legal residents. This health
insurance pays up to 70% of all medicals costs excluding dental, eye care and medications, which is
covered by private sectors. The current health care policy is guided by the provisions of the Canada
Health Act 1984. Approximately 99% of physicians service costs and 90% of hospital care are covered
by publicly funded program. Historically, Canada s health system was dated back to 1867 when the
British North American Act was passed, which gave federal government the responsibility to take care
of marine hospitals and quarantine. As for the provinces, its responsibility is to manage the local
hospitals, asylums, charities and other charitable organizations. To compare with the United States of
America, the American government does not have a single payer program, which results in a
somewhat less efficient healthcare system. Health care facilities are largely owned and operated by
private sector businesses. 58% of US community hospitals are non profit, 21% are government owned,
and 21% are for profit.
Major reforms
On September 1st of 1919 in Canada, the Federal Department of Health was created. Prior to that, this
department was under the supervision of Federal Department of Agriculture. In the beginning of

Aaron Hernandez
Why Did Aaron Hernandez Kill Odin Lloyd?
Aaron Hernandez a very youthful accomplished NFL player with a 40 million dollar contract will now
be serving a life sentence without the possibility of parole. This is all due to him being convicted of
murdering long term companion Odin Lloyd. In June of 2013 Lloyd was shot seven times and found
dead near the player s home. The prosecution had prodigious and significant amounts of evidence
against Hernandez. Surveillance video ten minutes after the murder shows surveillance of Aaron in his
own home walking with what resembles a gun. Text messages from Lloyd and Hernandez shows
intent from them meeting up with each other that same momentous night. The only part missing out of
this case in the motive. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One example is the image on Hernandez holding a black object that appeared to be a gun. Although no
one could tell for sure what this object was, more than likely it was a gun. The prosecution had
government experts and lay witnesses to present to the jurors that this was more than likely a gun.
Other evidence introduced was a pair of red sneakers earlier on in the trial. Jurors didn t know what
was so important about this evidence but once the prosecution explained about the foot tracks later on
this made sense. So the jury had to go back to the evidence that they were presented earlier and put the
clues together to perceive the evidence. Now the million dollar question is why this talented NFL
player committed such crimes with a 40 million dollar contract at risk. What happened that made him
so angry? Odin Lloyd knew a lot about Hernandez it seems that the more people know about him the
more suspicious he gets. Aaron seems to have a paranoid type of personality partly from his drug
usage with angle dust and marijuana. His brain doesn t function properly while he is on these drug
making him quickly flustered and always thinking someone is out to get him or disrespect him. This
successful NFL player is convicted of murdering his close friend also he is fighting two more first
degree murder charges. Also a lawsuit for shooting on of his friends

as a colony of Spain. Colombia became independent on July 20, 1810 (Kline.) It is often referred to as
the most Roman Catholic of the South American countries, and most of its people are proud of the
relative purity of their Spanish language. Its population is heavily mestizo (of mixed European and
Indian descent) with minorities of European and African ancestry. The economy is traditionally based
on agriculture, particularly coffee and fruit production, but industries and services are increasing in
importance. Colombia is the most populous country of South America. The nation s political
instability has been tied to unequal distribution of wealth and the illicit trade in drugs, specifically
cocaine.
The Europeans first visited the territory that would become Colombia when Alonso de Ojeda arrived

Don t Get Wasted By Chronic Wasting Disease
Don t Get Wasted by Chronic Wasting Disease Can you imagine the impact of a fatal disease on a
population? Chronic Wasting Disease, or CWD for short, is a prime example in the whitetail deer
herd. CWD is a fatal neurological disease, more specifically known as a type of transmissible
spongiform encephalopathies (TSEs). In deer, this disease causes a characteristic spongy degeneration
of the brains of infected animals, resulting in emaciation, excessive drinking and urination, abnormal
behavior, loss of bodily functions, and death (Witkowski 3). With the discovery of Chronic Wasting
Disease the question arises what exactly is this disease and how detrimental has and will CWD be on
the population of whitetail deer? Chronic Wasting Disease ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

CWD was quickly on the rise and overtaking large areas of land, making it hard to suppress the
condition in a small area. Instead of spending money on methods not proven to contain the disorder,
the Wisconsin DNR decided to further research Chronic Wasting Disease and how it was spread.
Scientists determined that CWD transmission occurs when disease prions are shed by infected animals
through saliva, urine, feces and natural decomposition after death. A prion is the agent that transmits
TSE category diseases. In addition, CWD prions are extremely resistant to the environment, and
transmission may occur directly between animals or indirectly between uninfected animals and the
environment (Witkowski 3). Thus, the disease is highly contagious, as the prions are very hardy and
can survive nearly anywhere. The prions adhere and bind to the substrate using competitive inhibition,
or when the inhibitor binds to the active site on the substrate, kicking off and not allowing the enzyme
that would normally bind to attach there. As a result, the infectious prion takes over and is what causes
the transmission of the disease. Also, because the sickness is spread through feces and saliva,
everywhere an infected deer eats or walks throughout the day may contain traces of contamination.
Supplementary, CWD is an unfailingly fatal brain disease. Once a deer contracts the fatal illness, the
life expectancy ranges anywhere from 18 to 20 months. Deer typically look healthy the first 16

What Does The One Ring Symbolize
J.R.R. Tolkien s Lord of the Rings
One Ring to rule them all,
One Ring to find them,
One Ring to bring them all and in the Darkness bind them
(Tolkien, The Two Towers 233)
One of the masters of British Literature, J.R.R. Tolkien was able to create a fantasy world with an
endless supply of parallelisms to reality. The fantasy world was found in the Lord of the Rings.
Tolkien is able to create wonderful symbolism and meaning out of what would otherwise be
considered nonsense. He creates symbolism and meaning by mastering his own world and his own
language. To understand the symbolism of The Ruling Ring, or The One Ring, one must understand
the events, which take place from the time of the ring s creation until the time ... Show more content

And while he wore the One Ring he could perceive all the things that where done by means of the
lesser rings, and he could see and govern the very thoughts of those that wore them. (Tolkien, The
Silmarillion 589)
The people recognize the power of the One Ring as soon as Sauron puts the One Ring on his finger.
They realize that he can control their thoughts. This makes the people decide to remove their rings and
never use them. The people and Sauron become bitter enemies while the One Ring remains in Sauron
s possession. The One Ring is lost in the river when Isildur defeats Sauron. After passing through
many hands, the One Ring is given to Frodo Baggins. This brings us to the beginning of the Lord of
the Rings.
The nature of the One Ring can be explained in three distinct ways. The One Ring is a personification
of Sauron s power. It is a symbol of evil in general. It also is an object with a mind of its own.
As the One Ring s creator, Sauron had placed a great amount of his own power into the ring for the
purpose of controlling the other rings. The ring is an extension of Sauron s power. The loss of the ring
does not destroy Sauron. Only the destruction of the One Ring can destroy Sauron. His power simply
becomes spread around, and his influence affects whoever has possession of the ring. If Sauron gets
the ring back, his power will be greater than ever. If he recovers it, then he will command them all
again, wherever they be,

Apple Porter s Five Forces
Introduction nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; nbsp; nbsp;To perform the Industry Analysis it is better to follow
Michael Porter s five forces model. This analysis framework was created so that it helps managers in
their task to analyze competitive forces to the company. (Hill amp; Jones 80) This model is only one
of the models that can be used for this task but it is one of the more popular models. The five forces
that we will have to look at for this model are (1) the risk of new and potential competitors; (2) the
bargaining power of suppliers; (3) the threat of substitute products; (4) the bargaining power of
buyers; and (5) the degree of rivalry among established companies within an industry. (Hill amp;

Since IBM became the more popular computer to start with, switching cost became much higher if
you wanted to switch to a Macintosh, an Apple operating system. All the software that you owned for
the IBM computer would be useless for an Apple computer. That means along with purchasing the
new computer itself you would also have to repurchase all the software that you had on the old
computer in the new Macintosh format. Also the two computers work slightly different, so you may
have to take a class or two to help you understand how to work this new computer that you purchased.
Overall that is much more money then it would be just to buy another computer compatible with the
same system that you already own. A third barrier to entry is one of imitation and absolute cost
advantages. This is were IBM has lost it s advantage. IBM has created a computer that is very open for
imitation. There are many different computers that are compatible to the IBM format. Each new
company that has entered the market has realized that IBM had the more popular system and then tried
to copy it. These new companies were producing very similar computers at the same cost but charging
less. (Hill amp; Jones 207) This in turn caused IBM to loose their

as semi empirical in pavement design. For the mechanistic design process, the first process is about
the design traffic (ESA). To design the traffic, traffic loading is the main parameter to be known.
Traffic loading contains four type of design such as seal design, highway pavement design, airports

handling yards, they are using the 4th power rule only for converting the loads without using the ESA.
The second process is a proposed pavement model. The pavement model includes the ESA loading

My Favorite Stories From The Hat, Sam I Am Who Does Not...
My favorite stories from when I was young consisted of iconic characters such as The Cat in the Hat,
Sam I Am who does not like green eggs and ham, the Grinch and his dog and many more. These
characters are the basis of what shaped my childhood and my now love of reading. The man behind
these fictional characters is Theodor Seuss Geisel, better known as Dr. Seuss. He had such a way with
words that reached not only his target audience of children, but became a phenomenon across the
country with adults as well. Quickly, these tales of characters have captured the hearts of many people
and will be passed along for many generations to come. Dr. Seuss keeps children entertained while
also educating them through the messages he uses and the creativity he inspires. Theodor Seuss
Geisel, the author some of the most entertaining and creative children s stories ever written, went by a
different name: Dr. Seuss. He, jokingly, wanted to save his given name for the Great American Novel
he had planned on writing, but never got around to it (Morgan). However, the real story on how he got
his iconic name was much different. While he was studying at Dartmouth, he and some friends were
caught throwing a party that broke the current prohibition laws. Instead of being suspended, he was no
longer able to write for the school s humor magazine, Jack O Lantern. Not wanting to give this up, he
decided to write under a pseudonym. He tried many other names such as L. Pasteur, D. G. Rossetti 25,

Aboriginal Land Rights within Australia Essay
Terra Nullius was once apparent in Australian society, but has now been nullified with the turn of the
century. With the political changes in our society, and the apology to Indigenous Australians, society is
now witnessing an increase in aboriginals gaining a voice in today s society. Described by Pat Dodson
(2006) as a seminal moment in Australia s history, Rudd s apology was expressed in the true spirit of
reconciliation opening a new chapter in the history of Australia. Considerable debate has arisen within
society as to whether aboriginals have a right to land that is of cultural significance and whether

Case by case indigenous Australians begin to gain access to the land that was taken from them.
Contentious debate continues to rage in present society opening a floodgate of ethical issues which
can have detrimental effects on all parties involved. Ethics vary from each individual and tend to stem
from their own belief systems external to that person (Dosen, Harris, Brock, Imariso and Smith
2007:336). These ethics give rise to conflicting arguments in present society. 50 years ago, Indigenous
Australians were not entitled to enter a bar, cafe, swimming pool, or a cinema, if that deprivation of
basic rights wasn t enough; they then took children from their mothers later on known as the stolen
generation (www.creativespirits.2008). The stolen generation, estimated at over 100,000 children were

Hamilton: An American Musical is my favorite Broadway musical. Countless hours have been spent
listening to the score, and putting on one woman shows, singing all forty six songs for anyone who

Hamilton, the deepest for me lies with Eliza Hamilton, the dutiful wife of Alexander Hamilton.
Eliza s transformation from a shadow of a girl to a fearless, strong woman hit home with me. Through
great personal sacrifice and sheer will, Eliza is able to create her own distinct legacy, one that

Introduction
Animal welfare refers to the dominant ideology surrounding animal use in western cultures. The term
assumes that humans have the right to use animals in ways that are detrimental and sometimes fatal to
them; for purposes such as food, clothing or the testing of medicinal or cosmetic products; although it
also stipulates that humans should acknowledge the animal s inherent right, as a sentient creature, not
to be treated with unnecessary cruelty within those already accepted uses and behaviours.
It has been a long standing argument as to whether the use of animals to ensure the safety or
effectiveness of products for human consumption is synonymous with the term Animal Welfare . ...

This measure abstracts extent of diffusion in the network (Abrahamson and Rosenkopf 1997). A
dummy variable called heterogeneous knowledge distribution is created with a value of 1 when the
distribution of knowledge is heterogeneous, and 0 when the distribution is homogeneous. Further, we
model accessibility signals as 0/1 dummy variables where 0 indicate no use of a signal and 1 indicates
the use of a signal. Likewise, a dummy variable called global reputation mechanism is created which
is 1 when the reputation mechanism is global, and is 0 when the reputation mechanism is local. Also,
we input the inverse number of questions that each agent can answer per round of simulation as the
measure of its time constraint (low 1/10, high 1/5). Finally, we use the parameter value of network
density (0.3, 0.7) as the network density variable s value in our OLS model.
Table 1 reports the beta coefficients of accessibility signal dummy in each of the eight blocks
mentioned above . Results of this split sample analysis, conforming to patterns seen in the plots, show
that accessibility signals have positive effect in blocks 4 and 6, whereas they have negative effect in
blocks 1 and 8, and insignificant effect in blocks 2, 3, 5, and 7.

An unexpected element of their literacy development was evident when a student pointed out that I

students are successfully developing in this area because they are noticing it in other content areas. I
fluently read the story stopping to make sure students pointed their story element. I would use
inflection when I reached story element like Fairy Mom to emphasis the key words. This was
important to the reading because not all the elements were exactly the same as most story, for example
fairy godmother was called fairy mom and instead of once upon a time it reads Once there was a little
duck . These slight changes in word choice made it difficult for the students to pick up on the
elements. For the next time, I would consider explaining this to the students before hand so that they
know the exact key words to be looking for. The main skill I focused on was vocabulary specifically
story elements of fairytales. I printed out the student s the element they were to look with a picture so
that they could see the words and how it is spelled while also relating it to the picture. Before I began

Persuasive Essay On Assisted Suicide
Brittany Marynard, at the age of twenty nine, is diagnosed with brain cancer and is told she has six
months to live. She considers receiving treatment, but learns the side effects would be extremely
harsh. After considering passing away in hospice care she quickly changes her mind to seeking
assistance in ending her life (Maynard). Brittany is just one out of many individuals seeking medical
assistance to end their lives. Many people want assistance in ending their lives because they want to
die with dignity. Assisted suicide should be legalized in all states because it shows no evidence of a
slippery slope, frees an individual from suffering, and potentially saves on healthcare costs.
To better understand why assisted suicide should be legal in all states, one must consider the
opposition. Many argue the legalization of assisted suicide devalues human life. However, there are
strict guidelines in place that prevent individuals from taking advantage. According to Kenneth R.
Stevens, professor and Chair of the Department of Radiation Oncology at OHSU, [... the patient must
have less than six months to live] (Rogatz). This means there is careful consideration involved in
whether to end a life, therefore not a decision taken lightly.
One reason assisted suicide should be legalized in all states is that it has lacks evidence of a slippery
slope. A slippery slope would be a dramatic increase in deaths in a country due to the legalization of
assisted suicide. According to Dr.

Doubt Play As A Satire
The much admired play and subsequent film, Doubt, by John Patrick Stanley covers a subject that has

Set at a Catholic school, St. Nicholas, in the Bronx in 1964, Doubt tells the story of a nun and

Consciousness Is A Wide Topic That Spans Many Different...

broad topic that spans many different schools of thought. Its role in the early evolution of animals

the human brain operates would be of great importance in psychology. In this paper certain topics
central to understanding consciousness will be discussed. What consciousness is and rather its more

Karl Marx and Max Weber Different Views on Capitialism
Introduction of Karl Marx and Max Weber Theories
Karl Marx and Max Weber speak about capitalism and social class. They both agree that modern
methods of organization have tremendously increased the effectiveness and efficiency of production.
However they both have different concept of theories. Karl Marx speaks about Alienation and Critique
of Capitalism .Marx argued that this alienation of human work is precisely the defining feature of
capitalism. He regards alienation as product of the evolution of division of labor, private property and
the state: When these phenomena reach an advanced stage, as in capitalist society the individual
experiences the entire objective world as a conglomerate of alien forces standing over and above
them. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Marx understood this struggle between these two classes, he knew this soon would become
unacceptable to workers and they would come to realization of the inequity in their society.
Max Weber theory of class is that capitalist and the proletarian meet in a market and come into it in
different ways as purchaser of labor power and as seller, as someone able to wait, not compelled to
buy or sell merely to survive another day that s the capitalist and as someone who must sell his
services today or starve. Therefore Marx two classes, in Weber view are distinguished essentially by
their relation to a market and precisely by their bargaining power. Bargaining power is matter of
monopoly or lack of it. Weber then analyses class mainly in terms of monopoly . To Max Weber,
writing in the early 1900s, Marx s view was too simple he agreed that different classes exist but he
thought that Status or Social Prestige was the key factor in deciding which group each one of us
belongs to. Where we live, our manner of speech, our schooling, our leisure habits, these and many
other factors decide our social class. He thought that the way each person thinks about his/her Life

In Silence , author Billy Collins uses a motif of silence, a dark and serious tone, and an enjambment in
order to reveal that the tension of unspoken words often lead to the disruption in peace. To begin,
throughout the poem, a motif of silence recurs an overwhelming amount of times: The silence when I
hold you to my chest, The silence of the window above us, And the silence when you rise and turn
away. And there is a silence of this morning Which I have broken with my pen, (12 16) By repeatedly
using this motif, it deepens readers understanding of the tension of unspoken words. A peaceful tone

As the narrator wakes up in the silence of the morning, a peaceful tone arises yet again until broken by
the build up of unsaid words. The author uses the word broken specifically to demonstrate the
destruction and disruption. In addition to this, the usage of words the author puts into the poem
portrays a dark and serious tone. And there is a silence of this morning / Which I have broken with my
pen, / A silence that had piled up all night (14 16). In order to reveal the tension of the overall silence,
a serious and dark tone become a necessity. Readers experience the negative effects of silence on life.
By using words like broken and piled it seems as if the unspoken words cause more destruction than
wanted. Also, the lack of humor throughout the poem portrays that the scenarios described provoke
readers to think, making the examples given come off more dark than anything. The peace at times
becomes disrupted because of the involvement of such a dark and serious tone in order to emphasize
clearly that the tension of these words built up over time, and left a more troublesome situation. The
author also uses structural elements such as an enjambment. The silence of the falling vase / Before it

primaries and some of the major flaws of the primaries. The last topic this paper will cover is whether
or not the people of the United States should understand and care about the presidential Primaries.
Introduction
The Presidential Primaries is a system put in place to help chose the best candidates for being the
President of the United States of America. Now whether it is or is not an effective system is yet to be
discussed later on in the paper, but it was put in place to help better to represent the people of the U.S.
The presidential Primaries is very crucial to the candidates running for presidency. It allows the public
to see who the candidates are, and how they conduct a campaign against one another.
History of the Primaries The presidential primaries have a long and rich history with the U.S. It goes
back to when George ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A pro is how the modern day primaries are primarily open, which many as long as your registered
voter you can vote, which also gives more power to the people. So the primaries have a much higher
voter rate right? In a sense they do with including all registered voters, so you don t have to be
affiliated with one major parties to vote, but voter participation has also recently been on the decline
until this year where voter participation nationally so far is at forty five percent. So it opens to
everyone, but it also loses its appeal because you no longer have to be part of political

Biography of Jacques Derrida
INTRODUCTION Distancing himself from those who came before him on the French intellectual
scene, Jacques Derrida became one of the most well known 20th century philosophers. His unique
approach and differing ideology from his predecessors aided in his rise as an icon of modern political
theory. (Encyclopedia) Derrida s works have influenced and inspired innovative practices of numerous
disciplines including art, literature, religious studies, linguistics, and of course philosophy. (Peteers) In
fact much of Derrida s work refers to the idea of purity in the domains of genetics, public policy,
philosophy, and religion. (Deutscher, 2) Derrida has taken Marxism and other well read philosophies
and broken them down as an attempt to reinterpret the meaning and importance of text. This paper will
give deep insight into the historical context of Derrida s life and studies. It will analyze his
philosophies, and gauge his reception among his peers as well as the general public while grasping the
legacy his work has continued to leave behind. Deridda was a prolific philosopher notorious for his
esoteric works that broke down concepts the western world had spent centuries building, who has
impacted all aspects of the future of political theory.
BACKGROUND Jacques Derrida was born on July 15, 1930 into a Sephardic Jewish family in El
Biar, Algeria, which at the time was a French Colony. Derrida was the third of five children. His older
brother Paul Moise died at less than three

The National Security Act Of 1947
Even though President Truman implemented the Executive Order 9835 in order to ensure the
attainment of national security, it failed to do so in a legal manner. Any national intelligence program
such as the HUAC could not have legally used Truman s loyalty program in order to attain national
security. The National Security Act of 1947 states that the methods of investigation utilized by
national intelligence programs should be free of political considerations ( National Security Act of
1947, 12). Executive Order 9835 shows how the HUAC s methods of investigation failed to be
independent of political considerations. As a broken loyalty program, Truman s Executive Order was
very opinionated. Any individual or organization deemed disloyal by the government without any
evidence of intending to subvert would be subject to further investigations done by congressional
investigation committees and other national intelligence programs. Those conjectured as political
leftists or fascists fell victim to loyalty screening despite not truly being of an insubordinate nature. In
this way, the broken system of loyalty determination created by Executive Order 9835 cannot be
justified through the attainment of national security since the Executive Order failed to be independent
of political opinions. Consequently, the HUAC failed to comply with the official mandates of the
National Security Act since its methods of investigation were politically biased. In accordance with
Truman s

The Presidential Candidate Of Education Reform
I for one believe Hillary Rodham Clinton is the best presidential candidate of education reform in the
2016 election. Mrs. Clinton has an impeccable record on this issue and consistently fought for the
rights of all American s access to quality education. Her crusade as a public servant for quality
education began thirty three years ago in 1983.The Arkansas school system ranked 50th in the nation.
Mrs. Clinton was appointed by Governor Bill Clinton to chair the Educational Standards Committee,
to recommend reforms. It is not an exaggeration to say the state s educational system remains broken.
TIME Magazine dubbed Arkansas the long time Dogpatch of the nation s school system However, this
crisis in education extended from coast to coast. In pushing for higher standards, Mrs. Clinton stated,
Our schools are not doing as good as they must. While there may be many causes for our dilemma,
there is only one solution. We Arkansans have to quit making excuses and accept instead the challenge
of excellence once and for all. (ED Reform,2016) The newly established committee solicited advice
from the public, in all of Arkansas 75 counties. Following this extensive research, Mrs. Clinton came
up with a comprehensive set of regulations aimed at overhauling the state s failing education system.
The Education Standards committee s recommendations included: Upgrading curriculum standards
and course requirements. Increasing teacher salaries and possible merit pay. Establishing a

What Do You See When You Look in the Mirror

What Do You See in The Mirror? Have you ever looked at yourself in the mirror and were proud of
what you saw, just to step on the scale and feel like someone is playing a trick on you? Weight is a
funny thing when you are looking at the aspect of being healthy and having a productive life. Being
considered a healthy person has less to do with your weight on the scale and more to do with an
accurate body fat percentage. Even people who exercise and look physically fit could be considered
obese when it comes down to looking at the average weight/height chart. When looking at the ... Show

You have a great start for a rough draft here except you have no conclusion. Good introduction and
three solid supporting paragraphs, but you need to wrap it all up and reiterate your thesis statement in
a fifth paragraph. In you three supporting paragraphs you have a lot of good information, it does seem
like it almost entirely paraphrased though. You do need to include your own original ideas as well
(though keep it in third person). This could possibly take the form of summarizing the information you

Health Website Credibility
How To Find A Reliable Health Website
Overview
In the era we are living in, the internet has become the number one source of information (it is the
reason you are reading this by the way). This is due to its convenience and speed. Nowadays you no
longer have to rummage through a whole library to get a book on a topic you want; just a click on
your computer or phone and you are sorted. The trend is no different when it comes to health matters.
It is this tendency that has led to the emergence of consumer health information that helps persons
keep their health in check as well as make wise health decisions for them and their families.
Accessing Useful Information
This information can be found in numerous websites that you and I frequent. Through ... Show more

However, take notice that the information you find from whatever website should never replace your
doctor s advice. Don t go telling your doctor that the internet says you should get an injection and not
some damn bitter tablets. Remember that diseases manifest themselves differently in different people
and because the internet has not examined you, it should not your diagnosis. In essence your doctor s
advice should hold the final say. Similarly, do not self diagnose based on internet symptom description
and most importantly, do not start control routines you saw on a consumer health information website
without the knowledge and a go ahead from your

The Death Of An Ice Cube
The chilling sensation of an ice cube pressed to my ear, my friends excited laughter, a sharp stinging
sensation, and then it was over. I had successfully pierced my cartilage despite my parent s
disapproval. This was the very first of many defiant acts that I would perform in the years to come. As
I looked at my newly pierced ear the first emotion that flooded through me was satisfaction. I had
successfully undermined my parents. They had drawn a line in the sand and I had jumped right over it.
Then slowly, a second emotion started to trickle in, guilt. Not regret or remorse. Just guilt. I wasn t
sorry for what I had done but I knew what punishment awaited me. Only weeks before I had asked for
my parent s permission to get the piercing and had received a hard no . So what had provoked me to
go behind my parents back and do it anyways? Was it to spite them? To provoke a response? Had I
done it for myself? Maybe I had something to prove to myself, to show the world that I was daring
and rebellious. When my parents saw the newest metal addition to my holy temple they were furious
as expected. Any normal parent would make their kid take out the piercing and ground them for god
knows how long. I was grounded of course, and also lost my car privileges but the kicker was the
unique punishment of finding, reading, and copying down 20 verses from the bible that talked about
obeying one s parents. I was raised in a very godly home. We went to church twice a week,
memorized

Why Do I Want To Stay In Valley Forge
In the winter of 1777 and 1778, George Washington and some soldiers are in Valley Forge, including
the Continental Army. It was a difficult place to stay, some people were sick some were dead, but not a
lot. Would you have quit the army or stayed? I would stay because only 15% of people died (Doc A),
there is help coming and because of the inspirational words of Thomas Paine Would I quit, no because

Daniel Wilkie Case The three main directors involved in this case were Daniel Wilkie who was the chief operating officer, Timothy Mainprize who was the chief financial officer and Stephen Burroughs who was the company s manager (Lampe, 2005). The three directors were charged with charges of deceiving auditors and dishonesty. Wilkie was charged with two offences of dishonesty as a company s officer and misleading an auditor of the company, Mainprize was also charged with the same three offences and Burroughs was charged with a misleading a company s auditor offence. The three directors made the auditors and the investors of the company believe that it was adequately reserved. In other words, they made these auditors and investors believe the company had attained an $8.6 million profit whereas it had actually incurred a $ 19.1 million loss. Between 1 March and 6 May in the year 1998, Wilkie and Mainprize, on behalf of the company, arranged with General Cologne Reinsurance Australia, that they (FAI) would pay a premium of $67.5 million if they (General Cologne) would give back a reinsurance benefit of $65 million. Between 23 June and 26 June 1998, the same two executives made another deal with the same reinsurance company (General Cologne). This time FAI paid a premium of $89.7 million so that they could retain a benefit of $87 million. • 3. Symptoms And Symptoms Of Anxiety Disorder It s safe to say that everyone gets the feeling of being worried or panicked at one time or another during their lifetime. Those feelings are extremely common and natural and for most people they will pass. If a person has these feelings and the feelings don t pass, then it s time to talk to a doctor about possibly having a type of anxiety disorder. There are seven types of anxiety disorder and they include generalized anxiety disorder, social anxiety, separation anxiety, phobias, obsessive compulsive disorder, panic attacks, and post traumatic stress disorder (Foa, Edna Andrews, Linda Wasmer, 2006). Generalized anxiety disorder occurs when a person has an excessive or obsessive feeling of being worried and the feeling just won t go away. A lot of times this happens when the person is thinking about something in the future that is going to happen (Van Duyne, Sara, 2003). Maybe the person has a huge paper or test coming up at school, they are getting married or having a baby, starting a new job, or even getting ready to go to their first day at school. To diagnose a person with an anxiety disorder, the doctor should first look at the patient s signs and symptoms. There are quite a few different signs and symptoms a person can acquire when they have a generalized anxiety disorder. They can experience fatigue, muscle tension, shaking of the hands, extreme perspiring, restlessness, headaches, nausea, and an increase in their heartbeat (Mayo Clinic Staff, 2014). For ... • 5. Characteristics Of The United Kingdom Judicial System Introduction The judicial system of the United Kingdom exists as a complex and intricate system of law that has been practiced, and adjusted over a thousand years to reach the point as is known in the present. The complexities of the judicial system presents itself as different variations of the legal system within the United Kingdom, where although they have their differences, they also share certain similarities between them. One such similarity is that they all hold certain requirements for Judges which exist as a centralized idea within the judicial system, as they are not entirely separated between the varying legal systems of the United Kingdom. The complexities and similarities of the United Kingdom s judicial system will be explored through their: structure, documentation, categorization, and the requirements of judges; where all of which will create a clearer picture to better understand how these elements operate. The paper will be divided into two categories: the Judicial System, and the Requirements of Judges. First, the judicial system will be explored through it s structure, documentation, and classification of a legal system; and secondly will move into the certain requirements that judges have in the United Kingdom. Both elements serve to essentially build a foundation that explains a clearer picture of how the judicial system of the United Kingdom practices law, and the expectations those in power hold. • 6. Jurassic Park Research Papers Jurassic Park is a movie based on the novel Jurassic Park by Michael Crichton. The movie of course, like all films based off of books, is slightly different from the original novel. Yet, this title shares a similar theme with its original piece of work. The recreation of dinosaurs. Sadly the Jurassic Park version of dinosaur recreation will only make it harder to bring these extinct animals back to life. Our real life scientists may be able to somewhat recreate dinosaurs through Artificial Embryo Twinning or Somatic Cell Nuclear transfer. We have successfully cloned 20+ animals or recreated extinct animals such as the Bucardo or Pyrenean Ibex. The InGen scientist in Jurassic park use a form of Somatic Cell Nuclear Transfer. The scientists ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Through this technique the scientist would have to grind up the Dinosaurs bones to extract blood cells and proteins (Cloning and Dr. Loy). The only negative point in this form of recreation or cloning is that it is ...used only as a backup to the cloning that produces a full strand of DNA... . Another way would be like the InGen scientist using Somatic Cell Nuclear Transfer. The only precaution would be to ensure that the blood or cells being extracted are actually from dinosaurs which at this point is extremely difficult. Somatic Cell Nuclear Transfer is when and ovum is created with a donor nucleus. First, the nucleus (containing the DNA) is removed and the rest of the cell is thrown out while the nucleus of an egg cell is also removed. Next, the nucleus of the somatic cell is inserted into the egg cells nucleus place. After the insertion, the host cell reprograms the somatic cell nucleus. The egg will begin to divide. Lastly, after many mitotic divisions the single cell can form a blastocyst with closely identical DNA to the original organism (SCNT). Our efforts on recreating animals have been successful to an extent. Dolly the Sheep is a perfect example of recreation (Roslin Institute, Scotland). • 8. Hinduism Symbolism II. Part A The fascinating religion, Hinduism, is composed of multiple complex gods and goddesses and filled with interesting traditions, all of which can be studied through ancient arts that depict various parts of the religion. The great gods and goddesses of Hinduism serve with different purposes, roles and depicts based of their stories. For instance, the god Shiva is known as the destroyer because of his creative power and furiousness. One of his popular tales describes how he took on a powerful trinity of tyrannical cities that were corrupting the city. Like most gods, Shiva is depicted with superhuman qualities; he often has serpents on his neck and unkempt hair. Another great god, Vishnu, is quite the opposite from Shiva because he is known as the preserver, of the universe especially. His role is to observe the cycle of the world and make sure everything is preserved and goes well; also, his depiction varies from the other great god, so he is represented with a flower in his (multiple) hands. Additionally, goddesses are also valued in the Hindu religion; for example, the goddess, Durga, is responsible for restoring moral order and often fights, but she still has compassion and love. She is often represented on a lion for courage. The representation for each god and goddesses varies but each accessory is symbolic to their powers. The main reason why they are depicted with various animal parts, weapons, or other certain appearances that may be unhuman like, is to show ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 11. The Effect Of Cortisol And Sleep On Memory Question Bennion, Steinmetz, Kensinger, and Payne (2013) addressed the overarching question of how cortisol, sleep, and emotional arousal interact to influence memory. More specifically, they conducted a study to investigate the following: 1) whether resting levels of the stress hormone cortisol affect memory consolidation differently for emotional versus neutral stimuli, 2) whether this effect differs following a period of sleep versus a period of wakefulness, 3) whether resting cortisol levels affect the relationship between attention to stimuli during encoding and subsequent memory, and 4) whether this effect, too, differs following a period of sleep versus wakefulness. These research questions were used to examine the interaction ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Although the authors initially presented their hypothesis as a dichotomous outcome, there were several possible alternatives. Elevated cortisol could predict better subsequent memory for neutral stimuli than for negative stimuli or have no effect on memory. Cortisol could have a greater effect following the period of wakefulness than the period of sleep, or the Sleep/Wake condition could have no effect. Results could also show only main effects of cortisol, valence, and sleep, with no interaction effects, or cortisol levels could have no significant effect on memory, regardless of the valence of the stimuli or the Sleep/Wake condition. For the two research questions addressed during the second level of the study, Bennion et al. (2013) hypothesized that elevated cortisol at encoding would promote an interaction between attention and consolidation i.e., that objects viewed for a shorter duration of time would be more likely to be forgotten, and objects viewed for a longer duration would be more likely to be remembered. They also hypothesized that this effect would be greater following the period of sleep, and that neural activity in memory retrieval would be centered on the limbic areas. This hypothesis also makes a reasonable prediction based on prior research suggesting that neural activity for mental retrieval centers on the limbic regions ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Police brutality has been a headline topic for debate for the past century. This topic s popularity has grown recently due to advancements in media technology over the past two decades. Police brutality is a problem in the United States for both, citizens and police officers. The outcome is disrespect for police officers and people disobeying commands; which can cause dangerous situations. This leads to the proposed research question; Do media reports effect the current Americans perception of police brutality? Looking at this information can help explain some hostility towards law enforcement. This research will look at data collected by multiple surveys and field research that has been carried out over the past decade. The data that is collected will be able to give us a better look at the amount of media the public consumes and what their perceptions are on police brutality. This proposal will review the research and data collected by others who have previously studied this topic and outline a new study. Prior studies have examined the media s effect on the public s perception on how effective the police are. The proposed study will attempt to look deeper into how much the media truly effects how often the public perceives that misconduct and brutality incidence occur among police forces. Literature Review These articles attempt to find out what the public s views are on the police; mainly their views on how prevalent police misconduct and police brutality is. • 18. Historical Background Of Health Care Essay Historical Background Health care in Canada is delivered through a publicly funded health care system called Medicare, which is a universal coverage, single payer plan for all Canadians and legal residents. This health insurance pays up to 70% of all medicals costs excluding dental, eye care and medications, which is covered by private sectors. The current health care policy is guided by the provisions of the Canada Health Act 1984. Approximately 99% of physicians service costs and 90% of hospital care are covered by publicly funded program. Historically, Canada s health system was dated back to 1867 when the British North American Act was passed, which gave federal government the responsibility to take care of marine hospitals and quarantine. As for the provinces, its responsibility is to manage the local hospitals, asylums, charities and other charitable organizations. To compare with the United States of America, the American government does not have a single payer program, which results in a somewhat less efficient healthcare system. Health care facilities are largely owned and operated by private sector businesses. 58% of US community hospitals are non profit, 21% are government owned, and 21% are for profit. Aaron Hernandez a very youthful accomplished NFL player with a 40 million dollar contract will now be serving a life sentence without the possibility of parole. This is all due to him being convicted of murdering long term companion Odin Lloyd. In June of 2013 Lloyd was shot seven times and found dead near the player s home. The prosecution had prodigious and significant amounts of evidence against Hernandez. Although no one could tell for sure what this object was, more than likely it was a gun. The prosecution had government experts and lay witnesses to present to the jurors that this was more than likely a gun. Other evidence introduced was a pair of red sneakers earlier on in the trial. Jurors didn t know what was so important about this evidence but once the prosecution explained about the foot tracks later on this made sense. So the jury had to go back to the evidence that they were presented earlier and put the clues together to perceive the evidence. Now the million dollar question is why this talented NFL player committed such crimes with a 40 million dollar contract at risk. What happened that made him so angry? Odin Lloyd knew a lot about Hernandez it seems that the more people know about him the more suspicious he gets. It is often referred to as the most Roman Catholic of the South American countries, and most of its people are proud of the relative purity of their Spanish language. Its population is heavily mestizo (of mixed European and Indian descent) with minorities of European and African ancestry. The economy is traditionally based on agriculture, particularly coffee and fruit production, but industries and services are increasing in importance. Chronic Wasting Disease, or CWD for short, is a prime example in the whitetail deer herd. CWD is a fatal neurological disease, more specifically known as a type of transmissible spongiform encephalopathies (TSEs). In deer, this disease causes a characteristic spongy degeneration of the brains of infected animals, resulting in emaciation, excessive drinking and urination, abnormal behavior, loss of bodily functions, and death (Witkowski 3). With the discovery of Chronic Wasting Disease the question arises what exactly is this disease and how detrimental has and will CWD be on the population of whitetail deer? Chronic Wasting Disease ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... CWD was quickly on the rise and overtaking large areas of land, making it hard to suppress the condition in a small area. Instead of spending money on methods not proven to contain the disorder, the Wisconsin DNR decided to further research Chronic Wasting Disease and how it was spread. Scientists determined that CWD transmission occurs when disease prions are shed by infected animals through saliva, urine, feces and natural decomposition after death. A prion is the agent that transmits TSE category diseases. In addition, CWD prions are extremely resistant to the environment, and transmission may occur directly between animals or indirectly between uninfected animals and the environment (Witkowski 3). Thus, the disease is highly contagious, as the prions are very hardy and can survive nearly anywhere. The prions adhere and bind to the substrate using competitive inhibition, or when the inhibitor binds to the active site on the substrate, kicking off and not allowing the enzyme that would normally bind to attach there. As a result, the infectious prion takes over and is what causes the transmission of the disease. Also, because the sickness is spread through feces and saliva, everywhere an infected deer eats or walks throughout the day may contain traces of contamination. Supplementary, CWD is an unfailingly fatal brain disease. Once a deer contracts the fatal illness, the life expectancy ranges anywhere from 18 to 20 months. The One Ring is lost in the river when Isildur defeats Sauron. After passing through many hands, the One Ring is given to Frodo Baggins. This brings us to the beginning of the Lord of the Rings. The nature of the One Ring can be explained in three distinct ways. The One Ring is a personification of Sauron s power. It is a symbol of evil in general. It also is an object with a mind of its own. As the One Ring s creator, Sauron had placed a great amount of his own power into the ring for the purpose of controlling the other rings. The ring is an extension of Sauron s power. The loss of the ring does not destroy Sauron. Only the destruction of the One Ring can destroy Sauron. A peaceful tone remains as the narrator lies in bed and the breaking of silence takes place while tension increases as the character rises and turns away. Although ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As the narrator wakes up in the silence of the morning, a peaceful tone arises yet again until broken by the build up of unsaid words. The author uses the word broken specifically to demonstrate the destruction and disruption. In addition to this, the usage of words the author puts into the poem portrays a dark and serious tone. And there is a silence of this morning / Which I have broken with my pen, / A silence that had piled up all night (14 16). In order to reveal the tension of the overall silence, a serious and dark tone become a necessity. Readers experience the negative effects of silence on life. By using words like broken and piled it seems as if the unspoken words cause more destruction than wanted. Also, the lack of humor throughout the poem portrays that the scenarios described provoke readers to think, making the examples given come off more dark than anything. The peace at times becomes disrupted because of the involvement of such a dark and serious tone in order to emphasize clearly that the tension of these words built up over time, and left a more troublesome situation. The author also uses structural elements such as an enjambment. The silence of the falling vase / Before it strikes the floor; (13 14). By ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 42. The National Security Act Of 1947 Even though President Truman implemented the Executive Order 9835 in order to ensure the attainment of national security, it failed to do so in a legal manner. Any national intelligence program such as the HUAC could not have legally used Truman s loyalty program in order to attain national security. The National Security Act of 1947 states that the methods of investigation utilized by national intelligence programs should be free of political considerations ( National Security Act of 1947, 12). Executive Order 9835 shows how the HUAC s methods of investigation failed to be independent of political considerations. As a broken loyalty program, Truman s Executive Order was very opinionated. Any individual or organization deemed disloyal by the government without any evidence of intending to subvert would be subject to further investigations done by congressional investigation committees and other national intelligence programs. Those conjectured as political leftists or fascists fell victim to loyalty screening despite not truly being of an insubordinate nature. In this way, the broken system of loyalty determination created by Executive Order 9835 cannot be justified through the attainment of national security since the Executive Order failed to be independent of political opinions. Consequently, the HUAC failed to comply with the official mandates of the National Security Act since its methods of investigation were politically biased. In accordance with Truman s ... • 43. The Presidential Candidate Of Education Reform I for one believe Hillary Rodham Clinton is the best presidential candidate of education reform in the 2016 election. Mrs. Clinton has an impeccable record on this issue and consistently fought for the rights of all American s access to quality education. Her crusade as a public servant for quality education began thirty three years ago in 1983.The Arkansas school system ranked 50th in the nation. Mrs. Clinton was appointed by Governor Bill Clinton to chair the Educational Standards Committee, to recommend reforms. It is not an exaggeration to say the state s educational system remains broken. TIME Magazine dubbed Arkansas the long time Dogpatch of the nation s school system However, this crisis in education extended from coast to coast. In pushing for higher standards, Mrs. Clinton stated, Our schools are not doing as good as they must. While there may be many causes for our dilemma, there is only one solution. We Arkansans have to quit making excuses and accept instead the challenge of excellence once and for all. (ED Reform,2016) The newly established committee solicited advice from the public, in all of Arkansas 75 counties. Following this extensive research, Mrs. Clinton came up with a comprehensive set of regulations aimed at overhauling the state s failing education system. The Education Standards committee s recommendations included: Upgrading curriculum standards and course requirements. Increasing teacher salaries and possible merit pay. Establishing a ... • 46. The Death Of An Ice Cube The chilling sensation of an ice cube pressed to my ear, my friends excited laughter, a sharp stinging sensation, and then it was over. I had successfully pierced my cartilage despite my parent s disapproval. This was the very first of many defiant acts that I would perform in the years to come. As I looked at my newly pierced ear the first emotion that flooded through me was satisfaction. I had successfully undermined my parents. They had drawn a line in the sand and I had jumped right over it. Then slowly, a second emotion started to trickle in, guilt. Not regret or remorse. Just guilt. I wasn t sorry for what I had done but I knew what punishment awaited me. Only weeks before I had asked for my parent s permission to get the piercing and had received a hard no . So what had provoked me to go behind my parents back and do it anyways? Was it to spite them? To provoke a response? Had I done it for myself? Maybe I had something to prove to myself, to show the world that I was daring and rebellious. When my parents saw the newest metal addition to my holy temple they were furious as expected. Any normal parent would make their kid take out the piercing and ground them for god knows how long. I was grounded of course, and also lost my car privileges but the kicker was the unique punishment of finding, reading, and copying down 20 verses from the bible that talked about obeying one s parents. I was raised in a very godly home. We went to church twice a week, memorized ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
