Richard III And Richard Loncraine s Comparison Of Richard III
This focus will analyse the famous act one scene one from William Shakespeare s historic tragedy,
Richard III. This will be compared with the 1996 adaption of Richard III s act one scene one, directed
by Richard Loncraine. This analysis will take in to consideration, the elements of film which regard to
visual communication of the actors, costume design, a consideration in the music will also be
considered and the period of which it s set in. Camera angle choices and shots will be analysed and
how they convey to the audience by progressing through the story. Richard III begins at a time of
peace and prosperity, after a great civil war has taken place and has also ravaged England. Richard
(Duke of Gloucester) opens with a soliloquy and he does so alone: Now is the winter of our
discontent/ Made glorious summer by this son of York: (1:1:1:2). W.H. Clemen identifies: ...Richard
contrasts this joyful time with the period of war which has just ended. (Clemen, 1957, 2). Richard
speaks about how the Yorkist side has won the war, the winter is described as events before the war
and the summer is the victory by the Yorkist king Edward. This soliloquy is a device used to identify
Richard s character, he focuses on his psychical appearance Cheated of feature by dissembling nature,/
Deformed, unfinished... (1:1:19:20). I am determined to prove a villain, (1:1:30). He speaks on his
deformity as a curse that makes unable to attract a woman, so he mentions that he must be

Heroism in Denis Tedlocks´ Popl Vuh
In Denis Tedlocks, Popol Vuh, the specific features of heroism expressed in the story are Knowledge,
and intellect, which prove to be significantly more important then gaining glory through physical
courage and strength. The two main characters, Xbalanque and Hunaphu are the children of One and
Seven Hunaphu who end up dying through their defeat by the lords of Xibalba named One and Seven
Death. Xbalanque and Hunaphu then use deceitful actions in order to attain their ideal goal of
defeating One and Seven Death. Xbalanque and Hunaphu are the protagonists who use their intellect
in the internal battle which enable them to achieve what they are striving for. This format of the hero s
journey portrayed by Christopher Vogler s The Writer s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Even though each of these battles led him closer to his death, he still continued without any hesitation,
not realizing that he needs to think about the people of Herot, the ones who rely on him for safety.
Without Beowulf s protection, Herot will be in great danger, which again, shows that he just used his
physical strength in order to gain glory without thinking of the outcome. Unlike King Arthur and
Beowulf, who don t use any moral thought into their actions, the two brothers, Xbalanque and
Hunaphu use their intelligence and trickery to defeat the lords of Xibalba. They intertwined the
trickster archetype, which, is a character that is defenseless in physical strength but uses quick
thinking to outwit his opponent (Vogler 78) and the hero archetype. The combination goes against the
meaning conveyed by the monomyth because it focus is not emphasized on the hero and how he
glorifies through power and combat. The focus is now on triumphing through trickery and genius,
which lead Xbalanque and Hunaphu to success in every way. They figure out the appropriate way in
handling their enemies, One and Seven Death by convincing them in order to get what they wanted.
The two brothers had confidence in their ability to entertain the Lords of Xibalba by gaining their trust
through disguising themselves as vagabonds, while performing several

Was Moses leader material
In this essay, I am going to be talking about three reasons that we can see in Exodus chapter 2. Some
of the things I see in this chapter on one side he was impulsive he was not that good at making
decisions but on the good side he was protective, he was well trained and he was strong.
Unfortunately, though he had many good traits Moses did have some problems one of them was his
impulsiveness. And it came to pass in those days, when Moses was grown, that he went out unto his
brethren, and looked on their burdens: and he spied an Egyptian smiting a Hebrew, one of his
brethren. And he looked this way and that way, and when he saw that there was no man, he slew the
Egyptian and hid him in the sand right here we can see a situation where Moses was impulsive it s

17 And the shepherds came and drove them away: but Moses stood up and helped them, and watered
their flock. he protected the women that s something you need in a leader so this is a good trait and
one reason he should be leader material
Another thing I saw was that he was probably well trained in the ways of a leader and in fighting And
the child grew, and she brought him unto Pharaoh s daughter, and he became her son. And she called
his name Moses: and she said Because I drew him out of the water. And he looked this way and that
way, and when he saw that there was no man, he slew the Egyptian, and hid him in the sand. he killed
the Egyptian and hid him so he must have known how to kill fast wich he probably was taught in the
court
He watched his people and cared about them

Pros And Cons Of Living On Campus Life
Almost every young person who enters college education faces a lot of decisions, including which
courses they are going to take, which subject they will major in, and where they will live between
living on campus or living at home. The on campus dormitories have been lived in by many people
and some of them have absolutely opposing opinions. The change from home to dorm life can be
considered one of the most important events in the lives of students. Home life and dorm life present
two different ways of living in different conditions. The choice between home life and on campus life
can lead to complete transformation of the life of a college student. On campus life inevitably affects
the lives of college students, as well as their home lives. Though both of these experiences affect
students, there are pros and cons to living on campus or off campus, such as food availability, time
management, finances, and social life.
The most obvious difference between living on campus or living at home while studying is food
availability. The dormitory does not provide the individuals with an actual kitchen and has only a small
space for refrigerating food. Living on campus just provides students with mostly three options such
as cafeteria food, recipes they can whip up in residence hall microware or the closest and cheapest fast
food restaurants like Subway. Although all of these options could be delicious and tasty, sometimes it
is not suitable with the students taste, especially,

Essay Sun chief
Different cultures and religions have many different customs and rituals. In Islam it is common
practice for women to be covered from head to toe. In Tibetan Buddhism it is common for devotees to
practice asceticism. In Hopi culture and religious tradition food and sex play large and important roles,
although in different situations the roles may be completely opposite.
In Sun Chief particularly the chapter called the Making of a Man we can see that food is very
important spiritually to the Hopi people. In the Wowochim ceremony each boy is given their manhood
name over a mother corn ear (159). In each of a dozen or more ceremonies we see that certain
practices such as the sprinkling of corn (159, 160, 162, etc.), or the eating of ... Show more content on

This feast celebration suggests that in the case of food, while there are certain sacred times which
require food to be abstained from, for the large part the Hopi consider food to be something given to
them to enjoy and indulge in freely.
Sex is mentioned in Sun Chief along much the same lines as is food. During the Medicine Ceremony,
for example, on the seventh day which is spent making pahos, or special offerings to the Gods for rain
and good harvest, our narrator states that If a sexual thought had come into my mind, I would have
tried to free myself of it and would not have mentioned the subject to a fellow member even to relieve
him of hiccoughs an excellent remedy on other occasions (170). From this statement we can draw two
conclusions about Hopi thoughts on sex. First, while sex does not seem to be abstained from during all
ceremonies, during certain especially important spiritual events, sex is considered improper. Second,
by referring to discussion of sex as something as mundane as a cure for hiccoughs, we can see that sex
is in most circumstances something indulged in often and without any feelings of shame or sin.
Looking at the Hopi attitudes toward food and sex as seen in Sun Chief, it is safe to say that the Hopi,
under everyday circumstances, are a people who follow their natural wants and needs. The concept of
self restraint from such natural desires, while not entirely foreign, is not something the

The fund inception occurred on October 27, 2003, and has been managed by Michael Buek since

the new manager may have not been the correct choice.

Obesity In Huntington s Obese City
In recent years, information about how our food choices affect our health has started to emerge in
popular society. The outrageous percentage of people suffering with diseases such as obesity, diabetes
and asthma has people asking questions and looking for causes (and solutions). Television shows such
as Jamie Oliver s Food Revolution, in which one ambitious English chef sets out to make the most
obese city in America healthier, explains just how serious these problems have become. The scenic
city of Huntington, WV has been the key driving force of his movement. This city is only a few miles
from where I live. The most obese city in America. The state of West Virginia, has been the most
obese state in the United States from 2010 through 2012. Overall, obesity in the U.S. has increased
from 26.2 percent in 2012 to 27.1 percent in 2013; the obesity rate was 25.5 percent in 2008
(Huffington post, 2014). This continuously increasing current global issue effects our society, our
landscape and our cities. As designers it is our responsibility to understand our environment s current
problems and develop solutions to improve the lives of everyday people. To find solutions to this

epidemic in the United States (AIA, Fit Nation, 2013). It s not just walk more, weigh less, Friedman

must therefore be encouraged as a therapeutic and defying act in the inner city. In our current food

Thalidomide Analysis
Analogs of thalidomide
Thalidomide has three more different type of analogs, include lenalidomide, pomalidomide and
apremilast. According to the article of Prommer (2009), the three analogs of thalidomide is produced
by the reaction of proinflammatory cytokine tumor necrosis and an element called TNF α which is
tumor necrosis factor. Because of thalidomide increases the degradation of RNA to product more
amount of TNF α and thalidomide can combine and active α1 acid glycoproteins with inherent anti
TNF α.
Thalidomide, lenalidomide and pomalidomide are the mechanism of multiple myeloma (MM) and
work together as a TLP. They can increase the amount of activity in T cell and anti the activity of
cancer.Lenalidomide is a second generation of immunomodulatory drugs (IMiDs) and can treat the
hematologic malignancies. It is less toxicity while compare with the thalidomide compound (BioMed
Central, 2009). The function of apremilast is to increase the activity of PDE4 enzyme
(Phosphodiesterase 4 inhibitor) by reducing the amount of the immune and non immune cell which are
called cyclic adenosine monophosphate (cAMP). In addition, by increase the amount of PDE4 it can
decreases the anti inflammatory mediators production, like, IL 10.6 which combine by multifunctional
cytokines synthesized.

Rough Draft About Friendship
Friendship draft
A true friend is someone who would stop whatever they are doing to help you through anything and
you would do the same for them. In a friendship both people need to posses the same essential traits
for the friendship to be successful. Friends are a big part of my life because without them life would
be very dull. I think God made us to find people that we are compatible with so we can go through life
together. Three traits that a person should posses to be a good friend are honesty, loyalty and
encouragement. In my experience my friends who live out all three of these traits fully, are my closest
friends and I hold the same traits back to them.
Honesty is a difficult subject when it comes to friendship. There are two ways it can go. The first
scenario being one lies to their friend because they think they are protecting their feelings. This case is
bad because if you are always lying to your friend they are not going to trust you. The second scenario
is you are always honest to your friend about everything. When you are being too honest it can be
taken offensively and hurt the friendship. True friends find the perfect balance between the two. They
are honest with each other but they discuss topics in a respectful manner. ... Show more content on

just keep going. I know personally lately I have been having a lot of negativity and jealousy towards
me and I was letting other peoples words get to me, but in that situation I found out who my true

Justice In Susan Glaspell s Trifles
Within human society, a certain symbiotic relationship exists between the ideas of law and justice.
These two concepts often correlate with one another. However, Susan Glaspell s play, Trifles ,
exemplified a specific instance where justice was achieved for Minnie Foster with very little regard to
the law. At the same time, an paradoxical dynamic occurs for John Wright where it doesn t seem that
he will obtain justice even with the assistance of the legal system. Colloquial English speakers often
use the terms law and justice interchangeably, and many people associate the existence of one with the
other. However, there are several key differences between the two on a definitive level. Laws are sets
of rules and guidelines set up by governing bodies that members of society must follow. They re
created by social institutions to regulate behavior, and by suppressing unfavorable behavior, fairness
and equality is usually successfully maintained. Justice on the other hand, is exactly what the
establishment of law making bodies are trying to achieve the equal and same treatment of all
individuals based on righteousness, ethics, and morality. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to speculation, Foster s husband John Wright inflicted years of emotional and
psychological abuse by limiting her freedoms and passions. The crime committed against Foster was a
combination of chronic abuse and the alleged slaughter of her beloved canary. As a result, Foster got
vengeance by slipping a rope around Wright s neck and killing him in his sleep. This is an example
where someone obtained justice, as fairness in this case is defined by the victim of an unjust crime. In
Foster s eyes, her husband s death is payment for the loss and trauma she suffered. Therefore, even
though she did not obtained it through the legal system or even legal means, Foster was ultimately
able to attain justice in her own

The Medicine Bag, AndApache Girl s Rite Of Passage,
What are the steps to maturity? In the short story, The Medicine Bag , Martin, the main character, and
in the video, Apache Girl s Rite of Passage , Dachina, both have similarities and differences in their
traditions teaching them the significance of maturity. In addition, there are advantages and
disadvantages to either reading the text or watching the video. Initially, there are many similarities that
are valued in Martin s and Dachina s Native American traditions. Mainly, both traditions are about the
topic of life and how Martin and Dachina have to go through a process in order to enter adulthood.
Martin and Dachina learn how to become mature by accepting to keep their cultures alive and willing
to do the responsibilities that each of their traditions provide. For example, the author in The Medicine
Bag states, Thank you, Grandpa, I said softly and left with the bag in my hands. That night Mom and
Dad took Grandpa to the hospital. Two weeks later I stood alone on the lonely prairie of the
reservation and put the sacred sage in my bag. This shows how Martin agreed to complete his duty of
putting the sacred sage into his medicine bag, making him responsible. Besides, Great Grandpa had a
difficult journey, which made Martin respect him and not put down the medicine bag. Similarly,
Dachina didn t reject her family s beliefs, since she completed the ritual and also didn t seem careless.
Moreover, both traditions are alike because they provided Martin and Dachina with

Catullus Affair With Lesbia
The tale of Catullus and his affair with Lesbia is an interesting one. He conveys his emotions of love,
happiness, sadness, and possibly anger throughout the poems. In V, their love affair is in its
honeymoon stage of extreme love and affection. Catullus especially conveys these emotions in the line
Let thoughts kisses rain, a thousand bliss. The poem sounds as if he were directly talking to Lesbia
and telling her to be just as enraptured by their love as he is. Although her emotions are not revealed,
both characters are most likely very emotionally invested in one another. The poem LXXXVII
explains Catullus is very in love with Lesbia, but it sounds as if someone were doubting their love.
Catullus felt the need to prove his love or at least

Analysis Of Eve s Apology On The Fall Of Humanity Essay
Although Aemilia Lanyer and John Milton were both writing on the Fall of humanity, their approaches
to this topic were vastly different. Lanyer wrote Eve s Apology in Defense of Women, in order to
combat the widely believed cultural idea of the time that placed the fault of the Fall entirely on Eve.
Milton, on the other hand, is attempting to explore this biblical story in Paradise Lost to prove that
Adam and Eve had free will, thus absolving God of responsibility for the fall. Lanyer and Milton
differ in their portrayal of the fall through their depiction of Adam and Eve s relationship and their
ideas about the free will of each of the characters. These factors ultimately lead Milton to present a
portrait of the fall that seems more balanced and accurate. One of the reasons for which Milton and
Lanyer portray the Fall differently in their texts is because of their views on the relationship between
Adam and Eve. Firstly, although Lanyer does acknowledge that Adam and Eve share a strong bond,
she often represents the relationship of Adam and Eve as a dictatorship, portraying Adam as the
dictator. Because of this unbalanced power structure, which, in Lanyer s eyes, overtly favors Adam
over Eve, Lanyer absolves Eve of responsibility for the Fall and places the blame squarely on Adam
even though Eve offered the fruit to Adam. In portraying this perceived power structure, Lanyer states,
Let not us women glory in men s fall / Who had power given to overrule us all (Lanyer,

Rise Of The Mongols Essay
The Mongols were a group of pastoral nomads who lived in the steppe area of China, now modern day
Mongolia, from as early as 600 CE, and still live there today. They lived in scattered encampments
and relied on animals for their survival. Their leader, Temujin, also known as Ghengis Khan or
Chinggis Khan, formed a small but well organized military following that spread from the region and
began a violent conquest of Eurasia that lasted from 1207 until 1266. Their conquests were bloody,
ending with between 30 and 50 million deaths. The Mongols chose to cruelly destroy anyone who

The Mongol army swept across societies of Eurasia due to brutal violence, which allowed for their
rapid spread of influence because of the fear that they established through destruction. Through the
fear that came from the violence that Chinggis Khan was interested in, they were able to exterminate
any enemies who stood in their way to force societies to gain their rule. The Mongols brutality became
a key factor in the speed of their conquest when their enemies saw the violence occurring in a
neighboring region or city, and they surrendered long before contact with the Mongols ever happened.
The Mongols looked to create the expectation of coming violence; people surrendered to the Mongols
sometimes purely on the basis of rumors; being psychologically incapable of fighting back even
before the battle begun (Snapshot Reader, pg 24). Even the Mongols knew that because of their
violent methods, people were afraid of them and may have even had a sense of an oncoming threat

Plunging The Joy Luck Club by Amt Tan Essay
The Joy Luck Club (1985) was written by Amy Tan (1952). The Joy Luck Club is the story of a
Chinese mother who leaves everything behind, a mother who leaves her family in China in order to
get her children (in this case our protagonist June) a better life. Or as Amy Tan says: The Joy Luck
Club, about a woman whose mother has just died and who regrets that she never knew who she truly
was. The stories poured out. They were what I felt and had to say before it was too late. I had found

The story of the swan (we can read it on Feathers from a Thousand LI Away) is very meaningful. The
American Dream changes between the generations. For the mothers, it is creating a future full of
privilege and success. For the daughters, it is the freedom to take their opportunities and do with them
as little or as much as they want. The daughters American ness is reflected most strongly in their
relationships with men. Ted, Harold, and especially Rich, represent the American part of their wives,
which for the mothers seems frighteningly disconnected from Chinese thinking. Suyuan wants Jing
Mei to be the perfect American girl like Shirley Temple, but resents how little Jing Mei understands
about Chinese culture. As Lindo Jong explains, these are the perils of being two faced. Fitting in one
place means not fitting in somewhere else, and the challenge for Chinese American women is to find a
balance that honours both cultures. Another very important subject is that which talks about love and
marriages. On the one side we have the mothers who thought that love and marriage are not always
holding hands. That is, a wife sometimes has to do things although she doesn t want to. We come back
to role of the submissive woman. On the other hand we have the daughters, who believe that they have
the right to find true love and to get married and if they marry, they have the right to be themselves

Movie Summary
In the fictitious movie, Mr. Smith Goes to Washington, the seat of former U.S. Senator Sam Foley is
filled by special appointment with the young Boy Ranger leader, Jefferson Smith. Mr. Smith is thrust
into a world of United States politics, of which he has no prior experience. When he makes it to the
Senate, the goal of other elected officials from his state is to keep pertinent information from him,
seeing him only as a mindless vote. The incumbent senator and others have a plan to push through a
Deficiency bill for the Willet Creek dam which will profitable to them. When Mr. Smith is encouraged
to draft his own bill, bringing forth ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This includes a point in the movie when the other senators walk out no longer wanting to listen to
Smith, leading him to call a quorum: after which, the senators returned in shifts. After calling for a
quorum, Smith was recognized on the floor of the Senate and began speaking about his bill, initiating
a filibuster that lasted over 23 hours. Using the filibuster allowed Smith to speak for an unlimited
amount of time. Cloture, or a vote of 60 senators or three fifths of the Senate, could have been used to
stop the filibuster, but this was not depicted in Mr. Smith Goes to Washington (Bardes 395). Jefferson
Smith s filibuster in the movie was highly reflective of a real filibuster in that he could not sit down or
leave the room. While what was unrealistic about his filibuster was that his associate, Saunders,
walked him through what to say from the observation

America Before Columbus And The Columbian Exchange
In modern America, we often take for granted the natural world that surrounds us and the American
culture which is built upon it. For many of us, we give little thought to the food sources that sustain
and natural habitats that surround us because when viewed for what they are, most people assume that
they have simply existed since the country was founded. However, the documentary America Before
Columbus provided this writer an extremely interesting record of how the America we know came to
exist. In the documentary, one of the most interesting discussions centered on the fact that it was not
merely the arrival of conquistadors and colonists that irrevocably changed the landscape of the
Americas, but that it was also the coined term known as the Columbian Exchange that afforded these
travelers the ability to proliferate so successfully. The basic definition of the Columbian exchange is
one that defines the importation of European flora and fauna. It could also loosely represent other
imports, both intended and unintended, such as tools, implements, and even disease. Armed with this
definition, it takes little imagination to envision how differently the Americas might have developed
had any significant amount of the native European flora, fauna, or other unintended import not been
conveyed to the Americas through the Columbian Exchange. Beyond the arrival of explorers, settlers,
and colonists to the New World, the breadth of what the Columbian Exchange represented to

According to Gottfried and Shearer, A majority of U.S. adults 62% get news on social media, and 18%
do so often...Two thirds of Facebook users (66%) get news on the site, nearly six in ten Twitter users
(59%) get news on Twitter, and seven in ten Reddit users get news on that platform (Gottfried and

Social media platforms are unreliable because they allow for the creation of fake accounts. Accounts
are set up utilizing similarities in logos and names for the sole purpose of disseminating fake stories
and news. Fake news is more present in today s society due to the frequent use of social media
platforms as a quick source of current events. This increased use of online sites for information allows
for an escalation in misinformation as a result of the establishment of fake news websites resulting in a
negative effect on society. While fake news is a growing issue in media and the freedom of the press,
discrimination is a topic that has always bore a negative effect on society. Discrimination is prevalent
in every type of media interface. Cambridge Dictionary defines discrimination as the treatment of a

treated ( Discrimination ). Discrimination can be by race, age, or gender. All are equally prevalent

National Alliance On Mental Illnesses
There are many organizations that have a huge impact on society, the one I chose to write about is the
National Alliance on Mental Illness, also referred to as NAMI. NAMI is the most popular mental
health organization. Members of this organization work hard to better the lives of those affected by
mental illnesses. The National Alliance on Mental Health has four priorities, those are educating,
advocating, listening, and leading. Mental health is a growing topic that is hard to ignore, this is
because organizations like the NAMI have offered many educational tools in hopes of teaching society

Female Infanticide and Foeticide Essay
Female Infanticide and Foeticide
It is regrettable that female infanticide and foeticide are rapidly decreasing the female population
throughout India. The main factors that is responsible for the increase in the incidence of female
infanticide and foeticide is the low status of women, son preference, and the practice of dowry across
all casts groups.
The low status of women and girls is due to cultural beliefs and the material cost they represent to
their families. Vanaja Dhruvarajan says that there is a belief regarding the nature of men and women:
Men are ritually pure, physically strong, and emotionally mature; women, on the other hand, are
ritually pollutable, physically weak, and lack strong willpower (30). Because of these ... Show more

Overall, girls get poorer education than boys, and become less aware of the world around them.
Therefore, they become dependent on men, whether it is the father, the husband or the son.
The preference for male children is due to three major reasons. One is the economic value of having
sons. Sons are more likely than daughters to provide family labour on the farm or in a family business,
earn wages, and support their parents during old age. Upon marriage, a son brings a daughter in law
into his family, and she provides additional help around the house as well as she brings riches in the
form of dowry payments. Another important advantage of having sons is their social cultural utility. In
India patriarchal family system, having one son is essential for the continuation of the family line, and
many sons provide high status to the family. Vanaja Dhruvarajan says, When a women becomes a
mother, especially the mother of a son, her status goes up in her new home for having helped
perpetuate the family (87) Finally, the utility of having sons comes from the important religious
functions that only sons can provide. In Hindu tradition, sons are needed to do the funeral of their
deceased parents and to help in the salvation of their souls.
Daughters are considered to be an economic problem to her parents mainly because of the heavy
dowry payment demanded by the groom s family, as well as the high cost of the wedding,

The Importance Of The Stock Market
2017 was a great year for all three stock market indexes. The Dow Jones Industrial Average is up 25
percent, the S P 500 is up 19 percent, and the NASDAQ is up 28 percent. The increases in these
markets reflected a booming U.S. economy and excellent corporate profits. The expectation of
President Trump signing a tax cut bill, which he signed a few days before Christmas, also fueled the
rise in the stock market.
One of the things this tax cut bill offers is a lowering of the corporate tax rate from 35 percent to 21
percent. Because of this, American businesses are expected to return hundreds of billions of dollars in
foreign profits back to the U.S., higher more workers, spend money on building domestic factories,

You may see terms like investing, saving, and trading used interchangeably, but these terms have
different meanings. Investing involves having a long term goal of five or more years where you are
looking to maximize profits with a reasonable amount of risk. Saving can either be short term or long
term, but unlike investing, saving involves little to no risk. Saving is more about preserving capital
rather than growing capital. Trading involves short term ownership of stocks. Ownership can be
anywhere from a few minutes to one year. Traders analyze stocks like investors, but traders are more
interested in short term swings in the market for immediate profits. If you are looking to secure your

One of the many traditions in the first salmon ceremony. This ceremony is one that is done every year
at the start of the fishing season for salmon. The first salmon ceremony is a way that the tribespeople
can show to the salmon people that they respect them and will not overfish the salmon.
The tribes believe that there is a salmon village under the sea. They would send a scout out and our
people would catch that first salmon. Once we treat that first salmon with respect it will go back and
tell the salmon people it was treated with great respect by our tribe, then it will bring the rest of the

The way that the Lushootseed people treat the salmon is the same way that they would treat another

Normative Age Graded And Normative
While brainstorming for examples of normative age graded, normative history graded and

graded examples versus the nonnormative examples. I feel thankful and lucky to say this because that
means I was not abused, lost my parents at a young age or anything too memorable. In fact, my
nonnormative examples stray from the norm of being negative and actually are some of the most
positive pieces to my life. With that being said, I will start by giving my examples of normative age
graded. According to our text, normative age graded influences are biological and environmental
influences that are similar for individuals in a particular age group (Author, page 5). Using this
description, I came up with the examples: getting my driver s permit at the age of 15 then following
that, getting my driver s license at the age of 16. Then, finally, at the age seventeen, graduating from
high school (I have a summer birthday making me slightly younger). These are the examples I have
already experienced in my life; however there are more to expect in my future such as: turning 21 and
being able to legally drink, getting married and having children somewhere in my 20s 30s, etc. While
these are examples specific to my life, there are plenty more depending on a person s religion, culture

The Importance Of Asian Mythology And Beliefs
Due to lack of diversity taught to students involving various cultures, Asian mythology and beliefs are
very unfamiliar to the majority of the globe. Knowing different cultural views is necessary because it
opens new perspectives on different civilizations, it stops the public from being oblivious to the rest of
the world, and also allows the public to respect and understand different cultures more profoundly. In
order to know more about Asian culture, China and India s mythology and beliefs will be reflected

landmarks and the significance of the landmarks to the region s practitioners.
One of China s most diverse topics when it comes to mythology and beliefs are Xiǎolóng, which
translates to dragons. This country is known for its celebratory festivals which include large, detailed
dragon puppets that are controlled by several people. These puppets are used to honour the mythical
creatures that the Chinese population worship. According to Cartwright (2017) There are multiple

1. Criollos: This term is often referred to as creoles, and it relates to the people of pure European
descent born in the Americas. They were often the ones who carried out independence movements in
Latin America, as they were tired of being subdued by the European natives and thus wanted to be the

purity to keep them under control.
2. Mestizos: It refers to the non white people present in Latin America. They are the result of various
mixtures between people of Spanish, Indian and African heritage. They constituted the bottom of
society before and even long after independence was achieved in the majority of the nations in South

3. reinos and peninsulares: European natives who lived in Latin America. Before independence was

Anti Fascism Essay
Antifa is a far left, extra parliamentary, and anti fascist organization with a history that dates back a
century. Anti fascist groups emerged as a response to fascism, driven to resist fascist control by any
means necessary, and view any manifestation of fascism as a potential virus that must be stopped.
They believe that the phenomenon of fascism can experience exponential growth in numbers and
influence, arguing that Italy s Mussolini and Hitler s Third Reich had quite humble beginnings and
meek political turnouts before they snowballed to the tyrannical regimes they became. According to
them, the viral nature of fascism is a constant threat that must be confronted to stifle the growth of
authoritarian nationalism; believing it had a strong hypnotic effect on a vulnerable audience and
quickly skyrocketed to the upper echelons of political and social life. ... Show more content on

A dictatorial government capitalizes on the perennial human desires to feel protected and safe, which a
dictator promises with a strong military and a convenient scapegoat to crush; of xenophobia and
hatred, remedied by promises to revivify tradition, culture, and past glory; of their inner rejection of
societal norms and their dormant hatred and hunger for change, that dictators satisfy through war and
persecution. Basically, by appealing to a person s more irrational and hateful nature, and through strict
enforcement of its agenda, dictators can grip their audience under the spell of mass hysteria. The lure
of fascism is strong and exists in many far right groups today, who identify rather than condemn with
egregious regimes of the

  • 2. Richard III And Richard Loncraine s Comparison Of Richard III This focus will analyse the famous act one scene one from William Shakespeare s historic tragedy, Richard III. This will be compared with the 1996 adaption of Richard III s act one scene one, directed by Richard Loncraine. This analysis will take in to consideration, the elements of film which regard to visual communication of the actors, costume design, a consideration in the music will also be considered and the period of which it s set in. Camera angle choices and shots will be analysed and how they convey to the audience by progressing through the story. Richard III begins at a time of peace and prosperity, after a great civil war has taken place and has also ravaged England. Richard (Duke of Gloucester) opens with a soliloquy and he does so alone: Now is the winter of our discontent/ Made glorious summer by this son of York: (1:1:1:2). W.H. Clemen identifies: ...Richard contrasts this joyful time with the period of war which has just ended. (Clemen, 1957, 2). Richard speaks about how the Yorkist side has won the war, the winter is described as events before the war and the summer is the victory by the Yorkist king Edward. This soliloquy is a device used to identify Richard s character, he focuses on his psychical appearance Cheated of feature by dissembling nature,/ Deformed, unfinished... (1:1:19:20). I am determined to prove a villain, (1:1:30). He speaks on his deformity as a curse that makes unable to attract a woman, so he mentions that he must be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Heroism in Denis Tedlocks´ Popl Vuh In Denis Tedlocks, Popol Vuh, the specific features of heroism expressed in the story are Knowledge, and intellect, which prove to be significantly more important then gaining glory through physical courage and strength. The two main characters, Xbalanque and Hunaphu are the children of One and Seven Hunaphu who end up dying through their defeat by the lords of Xibalba named One and Seven Death. Xbalanque and Hunaphu then use deceitful actions in order to attain their ideal goal of defeating One and Seven Death. Xbalanque and Hunaphu are the protagonists who use their intellect in the internal battle which enable them to achieve what they are striving for. Even though each of these battles led him closer to his death, he still continued without any hesitation, not realizing that he needs to think about the people of Herot, the ones who rely on him for safety. Without Beowulf s protection, Herot will be in great danger, which again, shows that he just used his physical strength in order to gain glory without thinking of the outcome. Unlike King Arthur and Beowulf, who don t use any moral thought into their actions, the two brothers, Xbalanque and Hunaphu use their intelligence and trickery to defeat the lords of Xibalba. They intertwined the trickster archetype, which, is a character that is defenseless in physical strength but uses quick thinking to outwit his opponent (Vogler 78) and the hero archetype. The combination goes against the meaning conveyed by the monomyth because it focus is not emphasized on the hero and how he glorifies through power and combat. The focus is now on triumphing through trickery and genius, which lead Xbalanque and Hunaphu to success in every way. They figure out the appropriate way in handling their enemies, One and Seven Death by convincing them in order to get what they wanted. The two brothers had confidence in their ability to entertain the Lords of Xibalba by gaining their trust through disguising themselves as vagabonds, while performing several ... Some of the things I see in this chapter on one side he was impulsive he was not that good at making decisions but on the good side he was protective, he was well trained and he was strong. Unfortunately, though he had many good traits Moses did have some problems one of them was his impulsiveness. And it came to pass in those days, when Moses was grown, that he went out unto his brethren, and looked on their burdens: and he spied an Egyptian smiting a Hebrew, one of his brethren. And he looked this way and that way, and when he saw that there was no man, he slew the Egyptian and hid him in the sand right here we can see a situation where Moses was impulsive it s easy to see ... And she called his name Moses: and she said Because I drew him out of the water. And he looked this way and that way, and when he saw that there was no man, he slew the Egyptian, and hid him in the sand. he killed the Egyptian and hid him so he must have known how to kill fast wich he probably was taught in the court He watched his people and cared about them And it came to pass in those days, when Moses was grown, that he went out unto his brethren, and looked on their burdens: and he spied an Egyptian smiting a Hebrew, one of his ... • 5. Pros And Cons Of Living On Campus Life Almost every young person who enters college education faces a lot of decisions, including which courses they are going to take, which subject they will major in, and where they will live between living on campus or living at home. The on campus dormitories have been lived in by many people and some of them have absolutely opposing opinions. The change from home to dorm life can be considered one of the most important events in the lives of students. Home life and dorm life present two different ways of living in different conditions. The choice between home life and on campus life can lead to complete transformation of the life of a college student. On campus life inevitably affects the lives of college students, as well as their home lives. Though both of these experiences affect students, there are pros and cons to living on campus or off campus, such as food availability, time management, finances, and social life. The most obvious difference between living on campus or living at home while studying is food availability. The dormitory does not provide the individuals with an actual kitchen and has only a small space for refrigerating food. Living on campus just provides students with mostly three options such as cafeteria food, recipes they can whip up in residence hall microware or the closest and cheapest fast food restaurants like Subway. Although all of these options could be delicious and tasty, sometimes it is not suitable with the students taste, especially, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Essay Sun chief Different cultures and religions have many different customs and rituals. In Islam it is common practice for women to be covered from head to toe. In Tibetan Buddhism it is common for devotees to practice asceticism. In Hopi culture and religious tradition food and sex play large and important roles, although in different situations the roles may be completely opposite. In Sun Chief particularly the chapter called the Making of a Man we can see that food is very important spiritually to the Hopi people. In the Wowochim ceremony each boy is given their manhood name over a mother corn ear (159). In each of a dozen or more ceremonies we see that certain practices such as the sprinkling of corn (159, 160, 162, etc.), or the eating of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This feast celebration suggests that in the case of food, while there are certain sacred times which require food to be abstained from, for the large part the Hopi consider food to be something given to them to enjoy and indulge in freely. Sex is mentioned in Sun Chief along much the same lines as is food. During the Medicine Ceremony, for example, on the seventh day which is spent making pahos, or special offerings to the Gods for rain and good harvest, our narrator states that If a sexual thought had come into my mind, I would have tried to free myself of it and would not have mentioned the subject to a fellow member even to relieve him of hiccoughs an excellent remedy on other occasions (170). From this statement we can draw two conclusions about Hopi thoughts on sex. First, while sex does not seem to be abstained from during all ceremonies, during certain especially important spiritual events, sex is considered improper. Second, by referring to discussion of sex as something as mundane as a cure for hiccoughs, we can see that sex is in most circumstances something indulged in often and without any feelings of shame or sin. Looking at the Hopi attitudes toward food and sex as seen in Sun Chief, it is safe to say that the Hopi, under everyday circumstances, are a people who follow their natural wants and needs. The concept of self restraint from such natural desires, while not entirely foreign, is not something the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The outrageous percentage of people suffering with diseases such as obesity, diabetes and asthma has people asking questions and looking for causes (and solutions). Television shows such as Jamie Oliver s Food Revolution, in which one ambitious English chef sets out to make the most obese city in America healthier, explains just how serious these problems have become. The scenic city of Huntington, WV has been the key driving force of his movement. This city is only a few miles from where I live. The most obese city in America. The state of West Virginia, has been the most obese state in the United States from 2010 through 2012. Overall, obesity in the U.S. has increased from 26.2 percent in 2012 to 27.1 percent in 2013; the obesity rate was 25.5 percent in 2008 (Huffington post, 2014). • 9. Thalidomide Analysis Analogs of thalidomide Thalidomide has three more different type of analogs, include lenalidomide, pomalidomide and apremilast. According to the article of Prommer (2009), the three analogs of thalidomide is produced by the reaction of proinflammatory cytokine tumor necrosis and an element called TNF α which is tumor necrosis factor. Because of thalidomide increases the degradation of RNA to product more amount of TNF α and thalidomide can combine and active α1 acid glycoproteins with inherent anti TNF α. Thalidomide, lenalidomide and pomalidomide are the mechanism of multiple myeloma (MM) and work together as a TLP. They can increase the amount of activity in T cell and anti the activity of cancer.Lenalidomide is a second generation of immunomodulatory drugs (IMiDs) and can treat the hematologic malignancies. It is less toxicity while compare with the thalidomide compound (BioMed Central, 2009). • 11. Rough Draft About Friendship Friendship draft A true friend is someone who would stop whatever they are doing to help you through anything and you would do the same for them. In a friendship both people need to posses the same essential traits for the friendship to be successful. Friends are a big part of my life because without them life would be very dull. I think God made us to find people that we are compatible with so we can go through life together. Three traits that a person should posses to be a good friend are honesty, loyalty and encouragement. In my experience my friends who live out all three of these traits fully, are my closest friends and I hold the same traits back to them. Honesty is a difficult subject when it comes to friendship. There are two ways it can go. The first scenario being one lies to their friend because they think they are protecting their feelings. This case is bad because if you are always lying to your friend they are not going to trust you. The second scenario is you are always honest to your friend about everything. When you are being too honest it can be taken offensively and hurt the friendship. True friends find the perfect balance between the two. They are honest with each other but they discuss topics in a respectful manner. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 12. Justice In Susan Glaspell s Trifles Within human society, a certain symbiotic relationship exists between the ideas of law and justice. These two concepts often correlate with one another. However, Susan Glaspell s play, Trifles , exemplified a specific instance where justice was achieved for Minnie Foster with very little regard to the law. At the same time, an paradoxical dynamic occurs for John Wright where it doesn t seem that he will obtain justice even with the assistance of the legal system. Colloquial English speakers often use the terms law and justice interchangeably, and many people associate the existence of one with the other. However, there are several key differences between the two on a definitive level. Laws are sets of rules and guidelines set up by governing bodies that members of society must follow. They re created by social institutions to regulate behavior, and by suppressing unfavorable behavior, fairness and equality is usually successfully maintained. Justice on the other hand, is exactly what the establishment of law making bodies are trying to achieve the equal and same treatment of all individuals based on righteousness, ethics, and morality. ... The crime committed against Foster was a combination of chronic abuse and the alleged slaughter of her beloved canary. This is an example where someone obtained justice, as fairness in this case is defined by the victim of an unjust crime. In the short story, The Medicine Bag , Martin, the main character, and in the video, Apache Girl s Rite of Passage , Dachina, both have similarities and differences in their traditions teaching them the significance of maturity. In addition, there are advantages and disadvantages to either reading the text or watching the video. Initially, there are many similarities that are valued in Martin s and Dachina s Native American traditions. Mainly, both traditions are about the topic of life and how Martin and Dachina have to go through a process in order to enter adulthood. Martin and Dachina learn how to become mature by accepting to keep their cultures alive and willing to do the responsibilities that each of their traditions provide. For example, the author in The Medicine Bag states, Thank you, Grandpa, I said softly and left with the bag in my hands. That night Mom and Dad took Grandpa to the hospital. Two weeks later I stood alone on the lonely prairie of the reservation and put the sacred sage in my bag. This shows how Martin agreed to complete his duty of putting the sacred sage into his medicine bag, making him responsible. Besides, Great Grandpa had a difficult journey, which made Martin respect him and not put down the medicine bag. Similarly, Dachina didn t reject her family s beliefs, since she completed the ritual and also didn t seem careless. The poem sounds as if he were directly talking to Lesbia and telling her to be just as enraptured by their love as he is. • 15. Analysis Of Eve s Apology On The Fall Of Humanity Essay Although Aemilia Lanyer and John Milton were both writing on the Fall of humanity, their approaches to this topic were vastly different. Lanyer wrote Eve s Apology in Defense of Women, in order to combat the widely believed cultural idea of the time that placed the fault of the Fall entirely on Eve. Milton, on the other hand, is attempting to explore this biblical story in Paradise Lost to prove that Adam and Eve had free will, thus absolving God of responsibility for the fall. Lanyer and Milton differ in their portrayal of the fall through their depiction of Adam and Eve s relationship and their ideas about the free will of each of the characters. These factors ultimately lead Milton to present a portrait of the fall that seems more balanced and accurate. One of the reasons for which Milton and Lanyer portray the Fall differently in their texts is because of their views on the relationship between Adam and Eve. Firstly, although Lanyer does acknowledge that Adam and Eve share a strong bond, she often represents the relationship of Adam and Eve as a dictatorship, portraying Adam as the dictator. Because of this unbalanced power structure, which, in Lanyer s eyes, overtly favors Adam over Eve, Lanyer absolves Eve of responsibility for the Fall and places the blame squarely on Adam even though Eve offered the fruit to Adam. In portraying this perceived power structure, Lanyer states, Let not us women glory in men s fall / Who had power given to overrule us all (Lanyer, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Their conquests were bloody, ending with between 30 and 50 million deaths. The Mongols chose to cruelly destroy anyone who stood in their way. The Mongols brutality became a key factor in the speed of their conquest when their enemies saw the violence occurring in a neighboring region or city, and they surrendered long before contact with the Mongols ever happened. The Mongols looked to create the expectation of coming violence; people surrendered to the Mongols sometimes purely on the basis of rumors; being psychologically incapable of fighting back even before the battle begun (Snapshot Reader, pg 24). The daughters American ness is reflected most strongly in their relationships with men. Ted, Harold, and especially Rich, represent the American part of their wives, which for the mothers seems frighteningly disconnected from Chinese thinking. Suyuan wants Jing Mei to be the perfect American girl like Shirley Temple, but resents how little Jing Mei understands about Chinese culture. That is, a wife sometimes has to do things although she doesn t want to. We come back to role of the submissive woman. For many of us, we give little thought to the food sources that sustain and natural habitats that surround us because when viewed for what they are, most people assume that they have simply existed since the country was founded. However, the documentary America Before Columbus provided this writer an extremely interesting record of how the America we know came to exist. In the documentary, one of the most interesting discussions centered on the fact that it was not merely the arrival of conquistadors and colonists that irrevocably changed the landscape of the Americas, but that it was also the coined term known as the Columbian Exchange that afforded these travelers the ability to proliferate so successfully. The basic definition of the Columbian exchange is one that defines the importation of European flora and fauna. It could also loosely represent other imports, both intended and unintended, such as tools, implements, and even disease. Armed with this definition, it takes little imagination to envision how differently the Americas might have developed had any significant amount of the native European flora, fauna, or other unintended import not been conveyed to the Americas through the Columbian Exchange. Therefore, they become dependent on men, whether it is the father, the husband or the son. The preference for male children is due to three major reasons. One is the economic value of having sons. Sons are more likely than daughters to provide family labour on the farm or in a family business, earn wages, and support their parents during old age. Upon marriage, a son brings a daughter in law into his family, and she provides additional help around the house as well as she brings riches in the form of dowry payments. Another important advantage of having sons is their social cultural utility. In India patriarchal family system, having one son is essential for the continuation of the family line, and many sons provide high status to the family. In Hindu tradition, sons are needed to do the funeral of their deceased parents and to help in the salvation of their souls. Daughters are considered to be an economic problem to her parents mainly because of the heavy dowry payment demanded by the groom s family, as well as the high cost of the wedding, ... • 32. The Importance Of The Stock Market 2017 was a great year for all three stock market indexes. The Dow Jones Industrial Average is up 25 percent, the S P 500 is up 19 percent, and the NASDAQ is up 28 percent. The increases in these markets reflected a booming U.S. economy and excellent corporate profits. This is not entirely a reality; many indigenous peoples did not start with already having traditions that treat the environment in positive and sustainable ways. With these mistakes being made in the beginning, the most important thing is that indigenous people recognized that their original ways harmed the non human world around them and that they must begin to do something different to better treat nature. This ceremony is one that is done every year at the start of the fishing season for salmon. The first salmon ceremony is a way that the tribespeople can show to the salmon people that they respect them and will not overfish the salmon. The tribes believe that there is a salmon village under the sea. They would send a scout out and our people would catch that first salmon. Once we treat that first salmon with respect it will go back and tell the salmon people it was treated with great respect by our tribe, then it will bring the rest of the people from the salmon village for us to be caught (Huchoosedah, 2:52 3:14) The way that the Lushootseed people treat the salmon is the same way that they would treat another person. • 35. Normative Age Graded And Normative While brainstorming for examples of normative age graded, normative history graded and nonnormative examples; I found it easier to pick out the normative age graded and normative history graded examples versus the nonnormative examples. I feel thankful and lucky to say this because that means I was not abused, lost my parents at a young age or anything too memorable. In fact, my nonnormative examples stray from the norm of being negative and actually are some of the most positive pieces to my life. With that being said, I will start by giving my examples of normative age graded. According to our text, normative age graded influences are biological and environmental influences that are similar for individuals in a particular age group (Author, page 5). Using this description, I came up with the examples: getting my driver s permit at the age of 15 then following that, getting my driver s license at the age of 16. Then, finally, at the age seventeen, graduating from high school (I have a summer birthday making me slightly younger). These are the examples I have already experienced in my life; however there are more to expect in my future such as: turning 21 and being able to legally drink, getting married and having children somewhere in my 20s 30s, etc. While these are examples specific to my life, there are plenty more depending on a person s religion, culture and even location. Similarily, my examples of normative history graded influences could be different of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

And all of a sudden all my problems were not an issue. It s like if the smell of fresh popcorn, sweet candy, and thirst quenching soda was a doctor s recommendation. The sound of crowds waiting eager to see an upcoming flick they ve been anxious about pleased my ears; this atmosphere of innocence and joy caused me to make this theatre my safe haven. I always found it fascinating how long it takes for movies to be made, so at the end of every movie I had an itch that said you can do that too. Then after watching an abundance of movies I finally scratched what I had felt. It was the beginning itch to become a filmmaker. This was in my 8th grade year and I initially thought this must be a phase, because my mom said so. At the time I had no equipment ,no knowledge of how cameras or editing actually work, so maybe my mom was right, maybe it was all phase. Like I had said going to the movies was almost like a routine. Most of the movies I watched were made with computer generated imagery, green screens, or a budget so big it made your jaw drop. However this caused me to think how were movies made twenty or even thirty years ago. This began the love of watching 80 s movies. E.T. , Breakfast Club, and Back to the Future, sparked the thought I don t need high budgets to make memorable movies. Yet, it wasn t till watching a film made in 1986 ... They believe that the phenomenon of fascism can experience exponential growth in numbers and influence, arguing that Italy s Mussolini and Hitler s Third Reich had quite humble beginnings and meek political turnouts before they snowballed to the tyrannical regimes they became.
