Purpose Of NSA
The purpose of the National Security Association, sometimes referred to as the NSA, is to protect
citizens from terrorist attacks on our country. The NSA has succeeded because they can invade our
civil liberties to get the information they want. A delicate organization like the NSA struggles to
find the difference between using information, and abusing it. The government abuses our civil
liberties by disregarding the fourth amendment protecting people s privacy. Edward Snowden
exposed this. Snowden was born June 21, 1983, in North Carolina. Later Snowden dropped out of
high school, and then began studying computers at Anne Arundel Community College in Arnold,
Maryland. Snowden got a security job at The University of Maryland s Center for... Show more

They do as many good things as bad. They stop terrorist attacks on our country. They also watch
American citizens that have done a crime or suspected of about to do a crime, which is for a
greater good. Citizens may say, it is okay for them to bend the law to protect the citizens, they
may say that invading our privacy shouldn t be a problem if we are not doing anything wrong.
That is true to a point. But, the NSA is not just violating foreign invaders. They are also violating
American citizens just as much. When does it stop? It is not okay to take away something from
us, as citizens, without our consent. As an American we have the right to our civil rights. We
have the right to privacy and no matter how high in government that should not be taken away
from us. It is okay for the NSA to do their job, protecting U.S citizens from terrorist attacks, if
they did not have to bend the rules to do it. The NSA has been caught hacking navigation systems
many times to find their assignments, the contact they are looking for. It is not okay to bend or
break the laws because it s for the government. The government is suppose to protect this country. It
is not suppose to spy on its on

1.Introduction
X ray computed tomography (x ray CT) is a technology that uses computer processed x rays to
produce tomographic images of specific areas of the scanned object, allowing the user to see inside
without cutting. Medical imaging is the most common application of x ray CT. Its cross sectional
images are used for diagnostic and therapeutic purposes in various medical disciplines. Medical
contrast medium (or contrast agent) is a substance used to enhance the contrast of structures or
fluids within the body in medical imaging. Iodine and barium are the most common ... Show more

Sodium hydroxide solution then added to apply a protocol and the solution was heated at 140
В°C for 1 h and at 180 В°C for 4 h. The alkaline hydrolysis of Gdcl3 should be carried out in
substoichiometric conditions, too.
3.1.2 Enlargement of Core
Gadolinium chloride salt will be placed in 150 mL of DEG at 60 В°C under vigorous stirring
overnight. A solution containing nanoparticles then added to play the role of nucleation sites.
Sodium hydroxide solution is added and the solution is heated at 140 В°C for 1 h and at 180 В°C
for 4 h. The increase of the core size will be obtained by iterative steps.
3.1.3 Encapsulation
In this step , gadolinium oxide nanoparticles will be embedded in a silane shell.
First we will apply a modified polyol protocol by coupling reaction between PEG and one unit of
carboxy.4
Afterward, a solution containing silane dissolved in 291 ОјL of DMSO will be prepared as a shell
precursor and stirred overnight. Silane shell growth was induced by hydrolysis condensation of
convenient precursors in presence of nanoparticles5 and controlled by a sequential addition of shell
precursors and aqueous triethylamine solution to a sol of Gd2O3 nanoparticles dispersed in DEG.
3.1.4 Purification
Dialysis against ethanol will be applied to purify naked and silane coated nanoparticles.

The Battle Of Algiers ( A Reenactment Of Algeria s Fight...
An imperative aspect of art is that it is open to interpretation and analysis. If the piece of art is
significant, it will be thought or emotion provoking and uncensored. It is not the role of art take
cautious steps in an attempt to leave its audience unoffended, but rather to embrace diversity of
thought and creativity to portray untainted ideas. Filmmaking being a form of art follows the same
guidelines and thus shapes society through its objectionable and often jarring subject matter. The
Battle of Algiers (a reenactment of Algeria s fight for independence from France from 1954 to
1957) was a politically motivated piece that was banned in France upon its debut. The lifelike

Without the brutal violence in American History X we would not be able to take an emotional
journey of discovering a lost man as he regains his purpose after killing two people under the
influence of a neo Nazi gang. The hatred towards everyone as experienced in Taxi Driver is
essential to understanding the raging emotions flowing through Travis s mind as he goes on a
killing spree. On the opposite end of the spectrum, without the provocative homosexual romance
in Brokeback Mountain, the passionate strain of keeping a forbidden love covert would not be
felt. Since homosexuality had not been greatly explored in film this way before, Brokeback
Mountain generated a confusion of empathy for a love that society would not allow, as well as
for those that were betrayed by it. The audience is at war for and against both sides (the lovers
and those that do not want the lovers together) in some aspect throughout the movie and the
controversy carried into real life. According to the Los Angeles Times, people that identified with
the cowboy role portrayed by the two main characters were deeply offended by the homosexual
association, which they believed tarnished their cowboy image. The article also says the film s
amorous relationship angered homophobic people across the nation, but it also, contrarily, made
others more empathetic towards members of the gay community s feelings and desires (Brady).

Origins of Madness in Humans Essay
No person is inherently mad; humans have caused other humans to drown their own sanity which
can then submerge that person into an ocean of madness. Historically, madness had become a
common occurrence with women due to several stress factors they must endure on a daily basis:
finding a husband, baring children, raising children, find a suitable job, retaining femininity, and
more. Authors Charlotte Gilman and Jhumpa Lahiri explored the psyche of two women who were
facing very stressful situations. Gilman s The Yellow Wallpaper, introduces her readers to an
unnamed nineteenth century woman who is slowly falling into madness. The protagonist must
endure the rest cure where she must live without artistic expression, human contact, or... Show more

Women of the 19th century were under constant restraint due to how men believed they should
act in society. Women were not allowed to have jobs that men did not believe they were suitable
for. However women were allowed to take up jobs such as being servants, house wives, farmers,
tailors, or school teachers. Although these jobs were available to women it was up to the men to
decide if a woman could partake in such careers; men were the alphas of any household and had
complete control over women. Many women turned towards the arts to find purpose in their lives
and to keep themselves occupied, but even then men would find ways to retrain their creativity.
Female characters suffered the effects of isolation brought on by constant oppression driving them
insane. The views of women in early literature were being ignored by the men and society. If a
woman happened to aspire for such features like independence, self sufficiency and self fulfillment,
which were reserved only for nineteenth century men, this woman is considered selfish,
unwomanly, and unchristian (Muhi, p.3). Women of the 19th century who refused to abide by the
social norms, what is called the Cult of True Woman, would be labeled as being hysterical. 19th
century feminist writers would usually portray their protagonist characters as females who are
mentally unstable. These portrayals of mad women would be used to depict the struggles that

How Is Grendel s Mother Portrayed In Beowulf
13. The Danes and monsters have in a sense traded deaths, but it is not over yet. They have
traded deaths in the way that Grendel killed many of Hrothgar s warrior as they slept in the hall
and then Beowulf killed Grendel by slaying off his arm. Grendel s mother is now present and
enters Herot, just as her son did, and took a single victim . Grendel s mother is said to have
taken a special members of the Danish men in revenge for them killing her son. It states, She d
taken Hrothgar s closest friend... She d killed a glorious soldier, cut a noble life short. (Lines 18

As proof of his victory, Beowulf brings back the sword that he killed Grendel s mother with, and
Grendel s head. The poem states, The monsters hall was full of rich treasures, but all that
Beowulf took was Grendel s head and the hilt of the giants jeweled sword... (Lines 267 269).
This quotes shows that out of all the valuables he could have taken back to show the Danes, he
took two that displayed his victory the best and that the warriors would all be proud of. Beowulf
swam up to land full of pride with all his armor and these two objects in hand. The first thing he
did upon his journey back was go to salute Hrothgar and show him the objects he has brought back.
17. The sword that Beowulf presents to Hrothgar s is inscripted with letters and stories. Hrothgar
s notices that the sword has the original owner s name in runic letter. It also had stories of battles

Pollution Of Beachwater
Beach vacations are an annual summer event for many families. But beachgoers at polluted beaches
around the country may bring back an unwanted souvenir from their trip: ear infections, stomach
flu, skin rashes, and other illnesses that are caused by polluted beachwater.
To help keep our beaches clean, NRDC supports improved beachwater testing to detect the
pathogens that can cause health problems in swimmers.
Bills now pending in Congress would provide funding for much needed beach cleanup efforts and
help ensure that the public is notified promptly when beaches are unsafe for swimming. These bills
will help make sure that our beaches are safe for swimming every day.
Polluted Beaches Can Cause Health
Problems for Swimmers
Beach closings and advisories are at a record high in U.S. coastal waters because of beachwater
contamination from human and animal waste. When it rains, untreated sewage and contaminated
stormwater flow into beachwaters from overflowing sewers, stormwater pipes, and treatment plant
bypasses, carrying human waste, animal waste, trash, and other bacteria laden discharges into the
water where it can make swimmers sick.
The most common health impact of this contamination is severe stomach upset, but swimmers can
also get earaches, pinkeye, respiratory ailments, and even very serious illnesses like meningitis and
hepatitis. Often swimmers don t realize that their illness was contracted while swimming at a
contaminated beach.
Small children, the elderly, pregnant women, and cancer patients and others with weakened
immune systems are most at risk for illness caused by contaminated beachwater. According to the
Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, children under the age of nine had more reports of
diarrhea and vomiting from exposure to waterborne parasites than any other age group
Government Activity Can Help Keep

Natural Appraisal and Beach front Wellbeing

Money cannot solve all your problems, it can actually create more. Usually, when you receive
something great, you think you will be able to benefit from it. Well, in The Pearl by John
Steinbeck, that is not the case. Kino cannot afford to get treatment for his infant son, Coyotito.
He then goes diving for pearls and finds the Pearl of the World. Kino s life goes from great to bad
as he keeps the pearl. His downfall is inevitable. John Steinbecks creation. Kino, is an example of a

What Is The Relationship Between Parental And Child...
Parental and child relationships play important roles in both parties. It is vital that they have a
good relationship. When people do not have a good relationship with their parents or vice versa,
they usually strive to develop that good relationship as they continue through life. However, if they
do not have a good relationship they are always trying to fill that void with other people or
material objects. For example, in a father/daughter relationship where there is always conflict, the
daughter is often searching ways to obtain the acknowledgement of her father. Whether it be from
praise of something well done or disappointment of poor behavior. At times, it is easier to have a
better mother/daughter relationship than a father/daughter. Being the same gender helps the
relationship because they can relate and have been through some of the same experiences, but can
cause conflict between them due to both of them thinking they know more in certain situations. It

The Crucible And On The Waterfront
Making amends for past sins is challenging yet ultimately rewarding
Discuss with reference to the Crucible and On the Waterfront.
The two texts, On the Waterfront directed by Elia Kazan, and The Crucible written by Arthur
Miller, both exhibit a protagonist that is plagued by their sins and desperately seeks redemption.
Through Terry Malloy s life on the Hoboken waterfront of 1950 s America, and John Proctors in the
Puritan society of 1962 Salem, it is clear that the act of expiating our wrongs is demanding and
difficult but finally satisfying. Both texts show similarities but also differences in how the
characters have sinned and betrayed their conscience and loved ones. The taxing journey of
redemption is full of obstacles in which each texts protagonist deals with in their own unique but
alike manner. Despite these unavoidable hardships, both Proctor and Malloy ultimately receive
their desired redemption and gratifying outcomes. Thus, both texts show how life s uncertainties,
confusions and wrongdoings should be dealt with humanity and a clear conscience instead of
fulfilling individual needs.
Both texts depict an antihero who committed an irreversible sin, sinking them into despair, and
leaving them craving for salvation. In the opening scenes of On the Waterfront, Kazan s use of a
close up shot of Terry Malloy s face is a manifestation of how Terry is being harried by the guilt of
Joey Doyle s death. He thought the mob was just gonna lean on him a bit , instead,

Landolt Iodine Clock Lab Report
The importance of conducting this experiment is to discover the rate reaction of the Landolt
Iodine Clock. This reaction is used to display the chemical kinetics in action, it was discovered by
Hans Heinrich Landolt in 1886. It is where two colourless solutions are combined and no instant
change appears but over a certain time delay depending on the factors it will instantly change to a
dark blue. The Chemical kineticsof the reaction refers to the rate of the reaction. Different reactions
occur at different rates, for example if it is a proton transfer reaction which is an acid base reaction
it will often occur at a faster rate. When the molecules collide in the reaction they must have a
sufficient amount of kinetic energy so that the reaction can be initiated. The amount of kinetic
energy is generally dependant on the temperature of the reaction, at higher temperatures there is a
higher rate of reaction because of the increase of kinetic energy in the reactant molecules. The
arrhenius equation was formed in 1899, by chemist Svante Arrhenius it was from a combination of
activation energy and the distribution law. The arrhenius equation is used in science to calculate
the relationship between the rate of a reaction and its increase or decrease in temperature. If a
reaction has higher temperatures with low activation energy it tends to favour increased rate
constants. The equation is in relation to k, which refers to the rate constant in any given equation.

is the major part of the story and the attitude of the mother toward her daughter, Emily, and the
actual character of the mother are two very important elements. The character of the mother can be
said to be strong and persevering, and along with her age and experience came her wisdom. At first

The Ancient Civilization
The ancient Maya civilisation has generated great interest in many academic scholars and scientists,
due to the phenomenon which saw one of the most dramatic civilisation collapses in recorded
history, during what has been referred to as the Terminal Classic Period A.D. в€
ј700 to 950 (Haug
et al, 2003). Interestingly, the ancient civilisation has been characterised by its collapse in the 9th
century, perhaps even more so than its remarkable accomplishments, such as: creating vast
hierarchical and political structures, architecture and symbolic artwork (Masson, 2012). The Maya
empire comprised of indigenous populations, who were situated in North America, and inhabited
southern present day Mexico, Belize, El Salvador, Houndras and the semi tropical lowland
environment of Guatemala (Faust, 2001). The Maya collapse is an incredibly controversial topic,
which is still debated in society today. Many substantial arguments have been placed to explain the
fundamental cause of collapse, especially the downfall of the Maya lowland areas of the YucatГЎn
peninsular region, which was arguably affected the most significantly. Consequently, this essay will
examine the key hypotheses presented for the reasoning behind the collapse of the ancient Maya.
Focusing on: drought and whether its cause was due to natural climatic changes or anthropogenic
forcing, social factors such as, disease and war, and finally political and cultural issues, which may
have led to the Maya demise. Natural

Reflecting on Religious Expression and School Prayer Essay
This country is comprised of individuals from various ethnic backgrounds, socioeconomic groups,
sexual orientations, and faith traditions. Whether it relates to race, class, religion or any other
category where one resides in the dominant group, it is tempting not to become oppressive and fail
to show mutual respect to the diverse cultures and beliefs of other groups. Furthermore, as
educational leaders, we must be equipped with knowledge around policies related to the above
mentioned, so that we can enforce such and build upon those that need refining.

Any school promotion or endorsement of a student s private religious activity is unconstitutional.
There have been various acts across schools within this country to discriminate and demean students
within schools because they follow faith traditions different than that of the dominant group. Thus,
it is important to realize that though as a school body one cannot endorse or promote one religion or
faith tradition over another, as educational leaders we also should not engage in discrimination and
disrespect for faith believes that do not align with ours or allow other students and staff to engage in
such. Rather we must work to promote multicultural acceptance and mutual respect, celebrating the
rich diversity among all individuals and groups.
Landmark Cases
There are three landmark cases most relevant to the discussion on religious expression and school
prayer. Engle v. Vitale is a case where the Court held that recitation of a prayer composed by the
New York State Board of Regents, which was to be said in the presence of a teacher at the
beginning of school each day, was unconstitutional and in violation of the Establishment Clause.
School District of Abington Township v. Schempp presents a case where the Court held that
reading the Bible for sectarian purposes and reciting the Lord s Prayer in public schools during
normal hours were unconstitutional; however, the Court asserted that the Bible could be read as

Steinbeck portrays the significance of timshel through the introduction of free will, which plays an
important role in the theme of Cain and Abel and provides the interpretation of Steinbeck. Timshel

When Cyrus gave his fortune to his sons, which led to Charles giving his fortune to Cathy and
Adam, and then Cathy chose to give her money to Aaron. Cal escaped living off the money of

inherited is symbolic for the sins running through the family and because cal escaped the
earnings from evil, he escaped the lifelong dependency on evil for his life, he could now choose
to be good. Free will helps cal realize that he doesn t have to be bad and helps him choose the right
path, this is important not only for the realization but also something that he craves, a blessing.
Steinbeck portrays the significance of timshel through the blessing of Adam and the impact after
that. After Adam encounters a stroke from finding out that Aaron died in the war, Caleb
confronts him with the truth of how he is the culprit of Aaron s death. Adam then speaks his last

lifelong desire of a blessing from his father that Cal dreamed of is quenched by the blessing of

The Longest Ride The warm wind hits my face and time seems to stop. The sound of my horses
hooves thumping against the ground is the only thing I hear. Flying wildly in the wind, her
mane shimmers in the sunlight. The sound of laughter breaks the silence. I turn to see a woman
riding a pure white horse next to me. Her long brown hair and her soft blue eyes send a shock of
remembrance, but I don t know who she is. I think hard, trying to search my memories of her. A
gold heart shines on her boots. I know who she is! She s BEEP! BEEP! BEEP! BEEP! 6:00 blinks

It s my mom. My mom died in a car accident when I was five. People say I look just like her, the
brown hair, blue eyes, everything. The only thing I have left of her is a fat cat and boots with a
gold heart on each one. I don t remember what she was like, but my dad is always going on and
on about how I act just like her. Anna breakfast is ready! my dad shouted downstairs. I walk
groggily over to my closet and decide on a light blue t shirt, jeans, and my mom s boots. When I

my dad walks with a mound of pancakes on a large plate and he sets it on the table. My dad s not

Investigating The National Hockey League Scandal And Its...
In todays fast paced society, White Collar Crimes are no longer overlooked. Rather, these crimes
have become the target for special task forces. They may occur once a month, once a year, or even
once a day. Some examples of these crimes include bribery, Ponzi schemes, insider trading,
embezzlement, cybercrime, copyright infringement, money laundering, identity theft, and forgery.
(4*) White Collar Crimesare usually directly associated with some sort of corruption. In this essay I
will be taking a current National Hockey League scandal and relating it to white collar crime,
specifically embezzlement and corrupt influence. To begin, I will provide a brief explanation of

Firstly, you can offer compensation for the request which you are, more or less, forcing this victim
into doing. On the other hand, you can imply, and sometimes enforce, a threat. This threat does not
necessarily mean physical, however, physically threatening someone is a type of extortion. Another
threat enforced through corruption could be loss of finances. Having a corrupt influence on
someone, usually implies, it comes from a place of fear. In some situations, this implication is the
furthest from the truth. Corrupt influence can also occur through affection; as we grow
relationships with certain people around us we start to trust their opinion. Clearly this person has
earned this trust over time as you have developed a relationship with them, however, under certain
circumstances, this person could use the trust you have empowered them with for their personal
gain. Embezzlement may occur in many different circumstances. Sometimes, it can cost a person
to lose millions of dollars to another individual or something as simple as a small, every day
product. Embezzlement may be defined by fraudulent conversion of another s property or money
by a person to whom it has been entrusted. (4*) For example, if a waitress in a restaurant were to

Leadership And The Leadership Styles
1.Webster s defines Leadership as the action of leading a group of people or an organization .
That definition really does the word no justice because leadership can look like a great many
things to different people, and there are equally as many ways to lead. One can lead through fear
or respect, by word or by action. Introduction: My definition of leadershipand the leadership
influences in my career. I have had numerous leaders that have influenced my career and
leadership style to this point. The Chief on my first Patrol Boat was one of the biggest
influences I have had in my career. I remember how he carried himself with confidence. He
empowered his people. He had the personal power to inspire people to want to be better to not
disappoint him. But at the same time was able to hold people accountable, and have you learn
from the experience. I also had a cutter CO that illustrated for me all the qualities I promised
myself I would never be. They did not treat their crew with respect. By their level of
micromanagement, they demonstrated that they did not trust their crew. People just dreaded
coming to work never knowing what the day was going to bring. Even as I strive to ensure I am
never like that leader, there are times that I stop and find myself thinking along the same lines,
and demonstrating some of the same weaknesses. I can see how they fell into the traps that they
did. I am proud of what I have been able to accomplish in my career, and am happy

If the hospital creates an ineffective budget then the hospital will have to make tough decisions on
holding off certain non vital services to veterans until the new fiscal year. Also, by creating an
effective budget it will benefit management because they will be able to keep their jobs for using
the tax payer s money effectively. If they create an ineffective budget and veterans services are
delayed then some management may lose their jobs.
In outlining a budget there are two phases that must be determined to create a budget, an operating
phase and a financial phase. Developing a new operating budget starts with examining budgets
from previous years and identifying what components are going to change, by how much and if
any new components need to be added or existing ones reduced or cut (Budget Challenges, 2012).
In the first phase of the budget it needs to be determined how much money is going to be needed

Themes Of Japan s Indigenous Religion
THEMES
Japan s indigenous religion is ShintЕЌ, and its customs are enmeshed in Japanese culture. It is
animistic, seeing gods and spirits in everything. This leads to a deep respect for human harmony
with the environment. Many Ghibli films contain jinja, or shrines, and torii, or sacred gates, which
are used to pay respect or give offerings in ShintЕЌism. Ghibli films also contain kami, spirits that
reside in all things. Princess Mononoke is filled with a kami (Odell 28).
Other Japanese mythology is seen through Miyazaki films through spirits that have the ability to
transform their shape, such as the foxes and raccoons in Pom Poko. Buddhism also influences
Miyazaki films. Dragons derive from Buddhist legends and are in Spirited Away. Buddhist statues
are also seen in My Neighbor Totoro, and Pom Poko (Odell 28). All of his movies contain variations
of spirits, demons, or fantastical creatures rooted in nature. There is a balance of empathy through
his human elements, but mystery in his fantasy elements.
One major theme that runs through all Miyazaki films is environmentalism, or how mankind
interacts with nature. This is closely linked with the ShintЕЌ ethic that sees the environment as
interconnected beings that deserve respect. In Princess Mononoke, the center of the plot is focused
on the conflict between humans destroying the forest and the gods and spirits who are fighting
back. In Ponyo, the dumping of waste is almost her downfall right at the beginning of the movie

The Effects Of Concussions On Concussions And Its Effects...
Truth behind Concussions It happens so quickly that you can t even comprehend it, it s a quick
flash and then it s like your whole world got turned upside down. Some people call it seeing stars
or blacking out. A temporary blow to the head that causes unconsciousness is called a concussion,
and they are becoming a serious issue in sports. The term Concussionwas used pretty loosely back
in the 1950 s. This became a serious issue around the early 1990 s and is now one of the most
serious issues in today s sports. Some myths have been brought up about concussions and many
researchers decided to test them out and see if they are fact or fiction. Karen Schrock discovered
six things about concussions that are true and many people don t know them. In my own opinion,
three out of the six are kind of common sense, but the other three are more unknown true facts
about concussions. The first three common thoughts that we should have a idea of are, if you
think you have a concussion, be sure to not hit your head again. This seems like a pretty obvious
one, but many people have the idea that if they were to hit his or her head hard enough, they don t
think much of it and continue whatever it was they were doing. Centers for Disease Control and
Prevention estimates about 1.36 million concussions a year (Schrock 2). The second is rest is not
the only treatment available for concussions. Many people, including Schrock, have had symptoms

The Economic Crisis Of 1997
The Indonesian economic crises that emerged out of the greater Asian Financial Crises of 1997 is
often presented as an example of an International Monetary Fund (IMF) project that created
problems for the receiving nation. As the video Globalization at a Crossroads stated in its final
words, It supported the case that economic globalization actually increased economic instability.
Indeed, there were immediate, and in some cases, irreversible consequences of the IMF s
intervention into Indonesia s economy. Examples of negative consequences included riots, massive
inflation and contraction in the economy (Shari, 1998). However, through the lens of the current
Indonesian economy, almost 20 years later, IMF intervention may have eventually worked as
intended, as the country has demonstrated economic stability and growth through several more
contemporary economic crises.
In the beginning of the IMF s intervention in Indonesia, it seemed as though the IMF could do
nothing right. On multiple occasions, Suharto, Indonesia s dictator, had upstaged and embarrassed
the IMF and IMF officials. The embarrassment hit a high note on May 14th, 1998 when riots and
fires ran the remaining IMF delegation out of the country, but not before they were shaken down
by immigration officials in exchange for food and water (Shari, 1998).
As Michael Shari reported in Business Week in 1998, the IMF s faith in Suharto as a trustworthy
and capable leader was severely flawed. At first, Suharto...won

Analysis of the Closet Scene in Hamlet the Movie Essay
Hamlet is often seen as one of the most well known examples of an Oedipus Complex presented in
literature. The reasons for this is probably because of the plot that resolves around the revenge that
Hamlet has against his step father Claudius and because of the relationship that Hamlet has with his
mother that is loaded with sexual energy. Hamlets love for his mother is especially exemplified by
the Mel Gibson s interpretation of the infamous closet scene.
Traditionally a Queen s closet was not worth emphasizing a bedroom, but it is likely that most of
the readers would presume that the closet scene takes place in Gertrude?s bedroom because of the
obsession that Hamlet has about Gertrude?s bed. When Hamlet responds to his mother?s ... Show

When the last kiss is given, the camera angle turns to have the bed as well as the two figures
kissing in the picture. Gertrude by the bed is the last focus of the camera you see when the scene
ends.
Richardson?s Hamlet is not as much preoccupied with sexuality than Olivier?s or the Zeffirelli?s
Hamlet. The relationship between Gertrude and Hamlet in this film seems more impersonal than
the others. The viewer experience much more hate from Hamlet towards Gertrude in this film that
explains why Richardson left out a lot of the dialogue at the end of the scene, because he wanted
the focus to be more on the beginning of the scene where Hamlet?s words are much harsher towards
Gertrude, than at the end of it. At the end of the scene Hamlet accentuates the words: ?I must be
cruel to be kind? that demonstrate the point. The bed is not very prominent in Richardson?s version
of Hamlet that indicates that he did not want the viewer to focus on the on the sexual connotation
that goes with the bed. It is true on the other hand that Gertrude and Hamlet lied on the bed at the
end of the scene, but the viewer gets the feeling that it was more an indicator of the intimacy that
goes with a normal mother and son relationship than an Oedipus Complex case. Hamlet cried like a
little boy that lost his father and not like a lover that lost his mistress. When you compare the
lighting of the closet scene from the Richardson version with the Zeffirelli, it

A Visit to Cades Cove Essay
A Visit to Cades Cove
Having lived in the Blount County area all my life, I have taken many weekend trips with my

Here you can drive the eleven mile trail (visiting the homes of people who once resided in Cades
Cove), picnic in the park, and camp out for the weekend. Cades Cove contains a lot of history as
well as beautiful sites.
Located near the Townsend entrance to the Great Smokey Mountains National Park, the cove is a

may seem long, but it is well worth the drive, just to escape the hectic college life. Cades Cove is

The springhouse would provide people with water and would also serve as a refrigerator. From
here, I would drive to the Cable Mill area, which is my favorite. It contains the Mill, the Mill
race, and the Dam. There is a blacksmith shop, a barn, and a sorghum mill as well in this area. It
started out as the home of Gregg Cable in 1879 and later became the home of Becky Cable. The
last site is the Henry Whitehead place. This cabin was made of mill sawn square logs and has a
brick chimney. An older one sits beside it. Ending your tour around the loop, you will find Sparks
Lane, a two way road that provides a shortcut back to the campground or an exit from the cove.
Although there is a great deal of history in the park, Cades Cove has a lot of things to offer its
visitors. There is so much to do as far as recreation is concerned. A number of people enjoy
fishing, hiking, horseback riding, backpacking, camping, sightseeing, and taking nature walks.
Cades Cove offers many trails for people who enjoy hiking. Most of these trails lead you to the
cabins if you choose to walk instead of drive. My favorite trail is the one up to Look Rock. Here
you can look out over all the mountains and the city. If you like photography, then it is a good
idea to bring your camera along with an extra role of film so you can take pictures of all the
wildlife. I, for example, have a picture of myself standing next to a deer.

in class which impacted the most while analyzing the film are violence and cultural imperialism.
Certainly, violence stood out like an oasis in a barren desert when Wolverines hand is covered in

Correspondingly, systematic violence is a concept which intensely develops through the film. The
mutants captured are mentally and physically abused to create children with their powers and they
will be used as killing machines. As a matter of fact, before the mutant genocide, they helped
humans when they were in a life and death situation and now the people are paying them by killing
the whole mutant population. According to The Five Faces of Oppression written by Young states
that Some groups live with the knowledge that they most fear random, unprovoked attacks / which
have no motive but to damage, humiliate and destroy the person (Young 61). The whole X Men
team, which consisted of mutants is gone since the Reavers are killing the mutants and creating
genetically engineered children with the same abilities as the mutants in order to use them as their
secret weapon.
In order, for the mutants to survive the genocide they need to stay together. Previously, without a
doubt, Wolverine had to protect Charles even though his healing factor is slowing down because
of all the drugs he is digesting. After, they find Laura, who is only 11 years old and is able to kill
like Logan and with faster reflexes than him. As a matter of fact, it is expected that she will be the

Canto 18 of The Inferno by Dante Alighieri
It was once said by Marcel Proust that We do not receive wisdom, we must discover it for
ourselves, after a journey through the wilderness which no one else can make for us, which no one
can spare us... . This journey through the wild to discover wisdom is exactly what transpires in The
Inferno by Dante Alighieri. The Inferno is an epic poem that is the first section of a three part
poem called The Divine Comedy. The Inferno is about the narrator, Dante, traveling through the
layers of Hell and learning about the men and women in Hell, and ultimately why God is punishing
them there. One of the most representative parts of The Inferno as a whole is Canto 18. Canto 18

Despite not reading all of The Inferno, the certain part I did read gave me a true illustration of
the entire work. Particularly in Canto 18, readers observe Dante s writing techniques as well as
the main ideas or themes present in the work. Canto 18 is an especially excellent illustration of
Dante as a visual poet and his imagery. For example, it begins with Dante describing Malebolge
as made of all stone the color of crude iron / as is the wall that makes it way around it. / Right in
the middle of the evil field / is an abyss, a broad and yawning pit (2 5). Dante continues in writing
more of a unique description about the geography of Hell. His descriptiveness allows readers to
feel and see the cold, crude iron surrounding Malebolge and see the huge pit in the middle, too.
As when I read the description of the geography, Dante s writing creates fear in me just as he
does for other readers in all parts of The Inferno. Besides Dante s visual poetry, he also includes
very shocking imagery that affects all five of the senses. Canto 18 holds an excellent example of
Dante s imagery. At the end of the canto, Dante writes, The ditch beneath / held people plunged in
excrement that seemed / as if it had been poured from human privies (112 114). These few lines
are a wonderful portrayal of the extremely, shocking details he

The Gnostic Gospels By Elaine Pagels
The role of women in human affairs, religious beliefs, and social practices are highly concerned by
scholars when women involved religious life. God the Father/God the Mother , third chapter in the
book The Gnostic Gospels by Elaine Pagels, examines major distinctions between Orthodox
Christianity and Gnostic community in the concerns of the roles and characterizations of women
by relating scriptural views and texts. While sharing a common topic of women s role in religious
life, Images of Women in Early Buddhism and Christian Gnosticism is an article in the book
Buddhist Christian Studies by Karen Christina Lang that discusses the major images and examines
four categories of women whose participated in the religious activities of both Buddhist and
Gnostics communities. In God the Father/God the Mother , Pagels compares the views of women
between Orthodox communities and Gnostic sources. The Orthodox Christianity continuous the
convention of Trinitarian terms from Jewish description of God that God is considered as

In The Stripping of the Altars, Eamon Duffy outlines a formidable challenge to long held notions of
the Protestant Reformation in England. He upsets a conventional narrative, as old as the
Reformation itself, which portrays the pre Reformation church in England as spiritually lethargic or
worse, and that the Protestant movement met a deep need in the English people while also
providing the Tudor monarchs with an opportunity to consolidate monarchial power. With the

strong, diverse, and vigorous hold over the imagination and the loyalty of the people up to the very
moment of Reformation. He shows this through many aspects of parish life. First, laypeople
integrated seasonal liturgy with personal devotional gestures such as feasting, processions, and
other forms of celebration; most notably, during Candlemas and Holy Week. According to Duffy,
for townsmen and countrymen alike, the rhythms of the liturgy on the eve of the Reformation
remained the rhythms of life itself. Second, laypeople invested themselves in catechesis: they
funded and produced wall paintings and church furnishings, and they read liturgical and devotional
books that circulated widely with the rise of print and literacy. These are among the means by
which the ploughman learned his paternoster. Third, they celebrated Mass not merely as passive
recipients, but actively, through sponsorship of special masses and imitating Mass liturgy in
private devotions. Fourth, the laity devoted themselves to the saints. They celebrated saints days
around the calendar, read hagiography, and infused their work and commerce with devotion to

Mulvey s Gaze
From a cinematography perspective, elements of Mulvey s essay persist throughout the film,
specifically, the idea of the male gaze upon females who are meant to be looked at. However, in
line with the homosexual themes in Carol, this gaze is manipulated to be a female to female
gaze. On their quest for a Christmas tree, Therese s gazes are followed by broken down, close up
shots of Carol s gloved hands on the steering wheel and red lips as she smile back at Therese.
Then from the car, Therese photographs Carol without her knowledge, the ultimate form of
Mulvey s scopophilia, or gaining pleasure by looking suggestively, however it does not derive from
the herterosexual male s perspective. Hayne s challenging of traditional depictions of sexuality in...

Conventional elements of sexualitiy in Carol are complicated further by the power dynamics
between Carol and Therese expressed through cinematographic elements. While Carol is wiser
and more experienced than Therese and is often framed with low angle shots making her appear
large, confident, and strong. The complexity of Carol s character is further explored as she
simultaneously appears as having power over Therese but is also the subject of Therese s
objectifying gaze. Therese, who is often captured through high angle shots giving viewers a
sense of looking down on her, possess a gaze which often frames Carol seductively as she
photographs and stares at Carol flaunting her feminine glamour and sexuality. Just as the scene in
which they first met, Therese is often obscured, hidden behind the lense of her camera, and Carol
is the subject of awe, attention, and desire. In the dark, Therese stares at Carol under her red
covers as she sleeps. Through parts of her are obscured throughout the film, Therese is the holder
of Mulvey s powerful gaze and thus gives new meaning to this

The NSA has succeeded because they can invade our civil liberties to get the information they want. A delicate organization like the NSA struggles to find the difference between using information, and abusing it. The government abuses our civil liberties by disregarding the fourth amendment protecting people s privacy. Edward Snowden exposed this. Snowden was born June 21, 1983, in North Carolina. However women were allowed to take up jobs such as being servants, house wives, farmers, tailors, or school teachers. Although these jobs were available to women it was up to the men to decide if a woman could partake in such careers; men were the alphas of any household and had complete control over women. Many women turned towards the arts to find purpose in their lives and to keep themselves occupied, but even then men would find ways to retrain their creativity. Female characters suffered the effects of isolation brought on by constant oppression driving them insane. The views of women in early literature were being ignored by the men and society. If a woman happened to aspire for such features like independence, self sufficiency and self fulfillment, which were reserved only for nineteenth century men, this woman is considered selfish, unwomanly, and unchristian (Muhi, p.3). Women of the 19th century who refused to abide by the social norms, what is called the Cult of True Woman, would be labeled as being hysterical. 19th century feminist writers would usually portray their protagonist characters as females who are mentally unstable. But beachgoers at polluted beaches around the country may bring back an unwanted souvenir from their trip: ear infections, stomach flu, skin rashes, and other illnesses that are caused by polluted beachwater. To help keep our beaches clean, NRDC supports improved beachwater testing to detect the pathogens that can cause health problems in swimmers. Bills now pending in Congress would provide funding for much needed beach cleanup efforts and help ensure that the public is notified promptly when beaches are unsafe for swimming. These bills will help make sure that our beaches are safe for swimming every day. Polluted Beaches Can Cause Health Problems for Swimmers Beach closings and advisories are at a record high in U.S. coastal waters because of beachwater contamination from human and animal waste. When it rains, untreated sewage and contaminated stormwater flow into beachwaters from overflowing sewers, stormwater pipes, and treatment plant bypasses, carrying human waste, animal waste, trash, and other bacteria laden discharges into the water where it can make swimmers sick. The most common health impact of this contamination is severe stomach upset, but swimmers can also get earaches, pinkeye, respiratory ailments, and even very serious illnesses like meningitis and hepatitis. Often swimmers don t realize that their illness was contracted while swimming at a contaminated beach. Small children, the elderly, pregnant women, and cancer patients and others with weakened immune systems are most at risk for illness caused by contaminated beachwater. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, children under the age of nine had more reports of diarrhea and vomiting from exposure to waterborne parasites than any other age group Government Activity Can Help Keep Our Shorelines Clean In 2000, Congress passed the Shorelines Natural Appraisal and Beach front Wellbeing (Shoreline) Act, which gave government reserves to state and neighborhood organizations to set up beachwater observing and open warning projects. When people do not have a good relationship with their parents or vice versa, they usually strive to develop that good relationship as they continue through life. However, if they do not have a good relationship they are always trying to fill that void with other people or material objects. For example, in a father/daughter relationship where there is always conflict, the daughter is often searching ways to obtain the acknowledgement of her father. Whether it be from praise of something well done or disappointment of poor behavior. At times, it is easier to have a better mother/daughter relationship than a father/daughter. • 12. The Crucible And On The Waterfront Making amends for past sins is challenging yet ultimately rewarding Discuss with reference to the Crucible and On the Waterfront. The two texts, On the Waterfront directed by Elia Kazan, and The Crucible written by Arthur Miller, both exhibit a protagonist that is plagued by their sins and desperately seeks redemption. Through Terry Malloy s life on the Hoboken waterfront of 1950 s America, and John Proctors in the Puritan society of 1962 Salem, it is clear that the act of expiating our wrongs is demanding and difficult but finally satisfying. Both texts show similarities but also differences in how the characters have sinned and betrayed their conscience and loved ones. The taxing journey of redemption is full of obstacles in which each texts protagonist deals with in their own unique but alike manner. Despite these unavoidable hardships, both Proctor and Malloy ultimately receive their desired redemption and gratifying outcomes. Thus, both texts show how life s uncertainties, confusions and wrongdoings should be dealt with humanity and a clear conscience instead of fulfilling individual needs. Both texts depict an antihero who committed an irreversible sin, sinking them into despair, and leaving them craving for salvation. • 13. Landolt Iodine Clock Lab Report The importance of conducting this experiment is to discover the rate reaction of the Landolt Iodine Clock. This reaction is used to display the chemical kinetics in action, it was discovered by Hans Heinrich Landolt in 1886. It is where two colourless solutions are combined and no instant change appears but over a certain time delay depending on the factors it will instantly change to a dark blue. The Chemical kineticsof the reaction refers to the rate of the reaction. Different reactions occur at different rates, for example if it is a proton transfer reaction which is an acid base reaction it will often occur at a faster rate. When the molecules collide in the reaction they must have a sufficient amount of kinetic energy so that the reaction can be initiated. The amount of kinetic energy is generally dependant on the temperature of the reaction, at higher temperatures there is a higher rate of reaction because of the increase of kinetic energy in the reactant molecules. The arrhenius equation was formed in 1899, by chemist Svante Arrhenius it was from a combination of activation energy and the distribution law. The arrhenius equation is used in science to calculate the relationship between the rate of a reaction and its increase or decrease in temperature. If a reaction has higher temperatures with low activation energy it tends to favour increased rate constants. The equation is in relation to k, which refers to the rate constant in any given equation. With the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Ancient Civilization The ancient Maya civilisation has generated great interest in many academic scholars and scientists, due to the phenomenon which saw one of the most dramatic civilisation collapses in recorded history, during what has been referred to as the Terminal Classic Period A.D. в€ ј700 to 950 (Haug et al, 2003). Interestingly, the ancient civilisation has been characterised by its collapse in the 9th century, perhaps even more so than its remarkable accomplishments, such as: creating vast hierarchical and political structures, architecture and symbolic artwork (Masson, 2012). The Maya empire comprised of indigenous populations, who were situated in North America, and inhabited southern present day Mexico, Belize, El Salvador, Houndras and the semi tropical lowland environment of Guatemala (Faust, 2001). The Maya collapse is an incredibly controversial topic, which is still debated in society today. Many substantial arguments have been placed to explain the fundamental cause of collapse, especially the downfall of the Maya lowland areas of the YucatГЎn peninsular region, which was arguably affected the most significantly. Consequently, this essay will examine the key hypotheses presented for the reasoning behind the collapse of the ancient Maya. • 21. Investigating The National Hockey League Scandal And Its... In todays fast paced society, White Collar Crimes are no longer overlooked. Rather, these crimes have become the target for special task forces. They may occur once a month, once a year, or even once a day. Some examples of these crimes include bribery, Ponzi schemes, insider trading, embezzlement, cybercrime, copyright infringement, money laundering, identity theft, and forgery. (4*) White Collar Crimesare usually directly associated with some sort of corruption. In this essay I will be taking a current National Hockey League scandal and relating it to white collar crime, specifically embezzlement and corrupt influence. To begin, I will provide a brief explanation of corruption, embezzlement and the power of a corrupt influence.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Firstly, you can offer compensation for the request which you are, more or less, forcing this victim into doing. On the other hand, you can imply, and sometimes enforce, a threat. This threat does not necessarily mean physical, however, physically threatening someone is a type of extortion. Another threat enforced through corruption could be loss of finances. Having a corrupt influence on someone, usually implies, it comes from a place of fear. In some situations, this implication is the furthest from the truth. Corrupt influence can also occur through affection; as we grow relationships with certain people around us we start to trust their opinion. Clearly this person has earned this trust over time as you have developed a relationship with them, however, under certain circumstances, this person could use the trust you have empowered them with for their personal gain. Embezzlement may occur in many different circumstances. Sometimes, it can cost a person to lose millions of dollars to another individual or something as simple as a small, every day product. Embezzlement may be defined by fraudulent conversion of another s property or money by a person to whom it has been entrusted. That definition really does the word no justice because leadership can look like a great many things to different people, and there are equally as many ways to lead. One can lead through fear or respect, by word or by action. Introduction: My definition of leadershipand the leadership influences in my career. I have had numerous leaders that have influenced my career and leadership style to this point. The Chief on my first Patrol Boat was one of the biggest influences I have had in my career. I remember how he carried himself with confidence. He empowered his people. He had the personal power to inspire people to want to be better to not disappoint him. But at the same time was able to hold people accountable, and have you learn from the experience. I also had a cutter CO that illustrated for me all the qualities I promised myself I would never be. They did not treat their crew with respect. By their level of micromanagement, they demonstrated that they did not trust their crew. People just dreaded coming to work never knowing what the day was going to bring. Even as I strive to ensure I am never like that leader, there are times that I stop and find myself thinking along the same lines, and demonstrating some of the same weaknesses. I can see how they fell into the traps that they did. I am proud of what I have been able to accomplish in my career, and am happy ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 26. Themes Of Japan s Indigenous Religion THEMES Japan s indigenous religion is ShintЕЌ, and its customs are enmeshed in Japanese culture. It is animistic, seeing gods and spirits in everything. This leads to a deep respect for human harmony with the environment. Many Ghibli films contain jinja, or shrines, and torii, or sacred gates, which are used to pay respect or give offerings in ShintЕЌism. Ghibli films also contain kami, spirits that reside in all things. Princess Mononoke is filled with a kami (Odell 28). Other Japanese mythology is seen through Miyazaki films through spirits that have the ability to transform their shape, such as the foxes and raccoons in Pom Poko. Buddhism also influences Miyazaki films. Dragons derive from Buddhist legends and are in Spirited Away. Buddhist statues are also seen in My Neighbor Totoro, and Pom Poko (Odell 28). All of his movies contain variations of spirits, demons, or fantastical creatures rooted in nature. There is a balance of empathy through his human elements, but mystery in his fantasy elements. One major theme that runs through all Miyazaki films is environmentalism, or how mankind interacts with nature. This is closely linked with the ShintЕЌ ethic that sees the environment as interconnected beings that deserve respect. Some people call it seeing stars or blacking out. A temporary blow to the head that causes unconsciousness is called a concussion, and they are becoming a serious issue in sports. The term Concussionwas used pretty loosely back in the 1950 s. This became a serious issue around the early 1990 s and is now one of the most serious issues in today s sports. Some myths have been brought up about concussions and many researchers decided to test them out and see if they are fact or fiction. Karen Schrock discovered six things about concussions that are true and many people don t know them. In my own opinion, three out of the six are kind of common sense, but the other three are more unknown true facts about concussions. The first three common thoughts that we should have a idea of are, if you think you have a concussion, be sure to not hit your head again. This seems like a pretty obvious one, but many people have the idea that if they were to hit his or her head hard enough, they don t think much of it and continue whatever it was they were doing. The Economic Crisis Of 1997 The Indonesian economic crises that emerged out of the greater Asian Financial Crises of 1997 is often presented as an example of an International Monetary Fund (IMF) project that created problems for the receiving nation. As the video Globalization at a Crossroads stated in its final words, It supported the case that economic globalization actually increased economic instability. Indeed, there were immediate, and in some cases, irreversible consequences of the IMF s intervention into Indonesia s economy. Examples of negative consequences included riots, massive inflation and contraction in the economy (Shari, 1998). However, through the lens of the current Indonesian economy, almost 20 years later, IMF intervention may have eventually worked as intended, as the country has demonstrated economic stability and growth through several more contemporary economic crises. In the beginning of the IMF s intervention in Indonesia, it seemed as though the IMF could do nothing right. On multiple occasions, Suharto, Indonesia s dictator, had upstaged and embarrassed the IMF and IMF officials. The embarrassment hit a high note on May 14th, 1998 when riots and fires ran the remaining IMF delegation out of the country, but not before they were shaken down by immigration officials in exchange for food and water (Shari, 1998). As Michael Shari reported in Business Week in 1998, the IMF s faith in Suharto as a trustworthy and capable leader was severely flawed. At first, Suharto...won ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 31. Analysis of the Closet Scene in Hamlet the Movie Essay Hamlet is often seen as one of the most well known examples of an Oedipus Complex presented in literature. The reasons for this is probably because of the plot that resolves around the revenge that Hamlet has against his step father Claudius and because of the relationship that Hamlet has with his mother that is loaded with sexual energy. Hamlets love for his mother is especially exemplified by the Mel Gibson s interpretation of the infamous closet scene. Traditionally a Queen s closet was not worth emphasizing a bedroom, but it is likely that most of the readers would presume that the closet scene takes place in Gertrude?s bedroom because of the obsession that Hamlet has about Gertrude?s bed. When the last kiss is given, the camera angle turns to have the bed as well as the two figures kissing in the picture. Gertrude by the bed is the last focus of the camera you see when the scene ends. Richardson?s Hamlet is not as much preoccupied with sexuality than Olivier?s or the Zeffirelli?s Hamlet. The relationship between Gertrude and Hamlet in this film seems more impersonal than the others. The viewer experience much more hate from Hamlet towards Gertrude in this film that explains why Richardson left out a lot of the dialogue at the end of the scene, because he wanted the focus to be more on the beginning of the scene where Hamlet?s words are much harsher towards Gertrude, than at the end of it. At the end of the scene Hamlet accentuates the words: ?I must be cruel to be kind? that demonstrate the point. The bed is not very prominent in Richardson?s version of Hamlet that indicates that he did not want the viewer to focus on the on the sexual connotation that goes with the bed. It is true on the other hand that Gertrude and Hamlet lied on the bed at the end of the scene, but the viewer gets the feeling that it was more an indicator of the intimacy that goes with a normal mother and son relationship than an Oedipus Complex case. Hamlet cried like a little boy that lost his father and not like a lover that lost his mistress. He describes a robust parish life in late Medieval England, hardly the spiritual stagnations that Protestants claimed it to be. Late Medieval Catholicism exerted an enormously strong, diverse, and vigorous hold over the imagination and the loyalty of the people up to the very moment of Reformation. He shows this through many aspects of parish life. First, laypeople integrated seasonal liturgy with personal devotional gestures such as feasting, processions, and other forms of celebration; most notably, during Candlemas and Holy Week. According to Duffy, for townsmen and countrymen alike, the rhythms of the liturgy on the eve of the Reformation remained the rhythms of life itself. Second, laypeople invested themselves in catechesis: they funded and produced wall paintings and church furnishings, and they read liturgical and devotional books that circulated widely with the rise of print and literacy. These are among the means by which the ploughman learned his paternoster. Third, they celebrated Mass not merely as passive recipients, but actively, through sponsorship of special masses and imitating Mass liturgy in private devotions. Fourth, the laity devoted themselves to the saints. They celebrated saints days around the calendar, read hagiography, and infused their work and commerce with devotion to saints.
