1. -453916-457200<br />Terms to know while engaging in various types of process drama<br />Process Drama:<br />A method of either teaching drama or teaching critical thought processes whereby both facilitator and participant are working in and out of role. It is also a suggested way to promote literacy development through opportunities for dramatic play.<br />Pre-text:<br />The word pre-text here it is used to denote giving background information about a character or issue in which the drama process is taking place. Simply stated, pre-text is giving needed information in order to set the story.<br />Tableaux:<br />A still image(s) portrayed or created from a scene by a group or one single person. This image is usually analyzed and discussed by the larger group to gain feedback or feelings that are stirred up.<br />Role on the Wall:<br />This is an outlined image drawn around a body (usually a person from the group) on a long piece of paper. Words or phrases are usually written around the body shape to emphasise feelings associated with the image. Phrases are also written inside the image to depict what the character might be feeling.<br />Magnetic Imagery:<br />Activity where participants are instructed or inspired to stand by the portrayed scene or tableaux which they are attracted (magnetized) to. Ideally the image evokes a strong enough emotion (whether positive or negative) in order for participants to be moved by it. This can be done in a variation of artistic styles. <br />Tap and Tell:<br />Drama facilitators will touch or tap a participant who is in role so that the participant may give feedback about how he or she is feeling at that particular time in character. <br />The Advice Line:<br />An activity where the selected participant that portrays a certain character walks down an aisle of people (other participants) where words or phrases are taunted at or praised by participants making up the aisle. This is an opportunity for the character to engage and feel the emotions stirred by the positive or negative messages they are hearing from external sources.<br />-304800-304800<br />Writing in Role:<br />Writing a letter or creating any written piece from the perspective of a said character. This character could be from a book that the group is discussing or from a play or movie that the group is analyzing, or, in this case, a drama that is being prepared.<br />Hot Seating:<br />Set in a talk show type or town meeting scene, this is where characters talk about and discuss issues concerning a particular character(s) (for instance, a newcomer) or a particular tension (newcomers in schools). The facilitator is in role and leads discussion with audience’s choice of characters they would like to learn about and explore further. Feelings and ideas about the tension and or the character quickly surface as discussions could become heated and resolutions could unfold.<br />Soundscape:<br />A soundscape results from a combination of sounds or voices creating a particular environment or promoting a particular feeling. Human voices can also be made to create other sounds that are not human, such as traffic, a factory, a forest etc. Soundscapes can be recorded and used to create particular environments to stir up emotions.<br />
