This document summarizes a project linking smallholder farmers in Azerbaijan to global supply chains. Over three years from 2010-2013, the project partnered 300 households totaling 1500 people, 51% women, across 10 villages. The project aimed to connect farmers to Unilever's supply chain through a local processor and co-op. It also sought to develop local markets and provide extension services. While knowledge and practices improved for farmers, the processor lacked capacity. Crop selection did not account for existing domestic demand. Relationships and responsibilities were not clearly defined. Going forward, the summary recommends earlier involvement of all stakeholders, realistic assessments, alternative markets, and not expecting sustainable change in the short-term.
