That s Not Funny Mike Celestin Analysis
Mike Celestino is a small time director and comedy fan, who looks at the inner workings of comedy to
reflect on its effect on the shaping of American culture in his documentary, That s Not Funny. The
audience isn t specific in nature, just anyone who has ears and an interest in comedy. His purpose was
to argue the value of comedy, and the reflection of it on our lives. Analyzing the trends of comedy
from the early times of film until now, the documentary expresses censorship and its importance on
the art form. Cultural change is viewed through his demonstration of comedy history, the perception of
the comedy, and successes and failures of each. Bringing in some of the largest names in stand up ties
his argument to the use of laughter to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Starting with Ancient Greece and following into vaudeville and the variety of acts it included, yet even
then, before motion films, artists who didn t succumb to the suggestion of leaving out any blue
material faced backlash. Next, during the time when the great war was in our midst, Adolf Hitler
became a key factor of scrutiny for the comedic realm, and still arises in many television shows,
movies, and comics today. The humor found from using Hitler is an attempt for easement of emotions
felt from his reign of terror, where we can find solace in his misfortunes. Afterwards, Mike brings in
those three comedians that are esteemed as the best in their art, but that didn t make their job easy.
Lenny Bruce, George Carlin, and Richard Pryor all faced tremendous turbulence throughout their
careers. Bruce was arrested for use of profanity during an act, severely affecting his career. Pryor s use
of derogatory racial terms, and making fun of his own drug use, fell outside the box. Carlin s Seven
Words You Can Never Say on Television, got him arrested and eventually resulted in a Supreme Court
case in 1978 against what should be considered indecent material. Indecency is wholly subjective and
therefore impossible to lay down a hard lined definition for, here, Celestino is explaining the

The Fearless Girl is a Symbol of the Progress of the Times
The Fearless Girl, which is New York s biggest public art controversy in recent years. After
controversy over the statue s placement, people are divided on whether it s a symbol of

Many people think this is a very important statue. However, not all critics are obsessed with fearless

Ernst s Art
As a Surrealist pioneer, Ernst s art displayed some of the most radical and unorthodox imagery in the
early 1920s. Violence and pain were perhaps the most avant garde elements of Ernst s art, and this
perception is on full display in one of Ernst collages displayed during Breton s Paris Au Sans Pareil
exhibition, The Preparation of Bone Glue. It depicts a diathermy process in which an electrical current
treats joint ailments (Kavky 2012); his use of violence and pain as both cause and cure intensifies the
victimization of the woman (Kavky 2012). The Preparation of Bone Glue is widely considered as an
early example of Surrealist art, and Ernst s early work with the mentally ill provided significant
influence into the troubled minds of some patients.
From a personal perspective, Massacre of the Innocents, released in 1920, represents one of the more
unique and grotesque representations; the imagery in the collage is akin to a modern day crime scene.

Surrealist art as central to the movement s research into psychoanalytic theory and the development of
its visual practice (Kavky 2012). The impact of Ernst s contributions motivated Breton to pen a brief
essay entitled Max Ernst reflecting Breton s bald enthusiasm for Ernst s unique brand of collages

collages (Susik 2011). Furthermore, Breton called Ernst one of the most remarkable minds of the age

The Effects Of Acid Rain On Plants
Abstract
Acid rain is a current issue due to the potential danger it could pose to plant life in the case that it is
harmful to plants. In this lab, it was determined whether or not acid water was harmful to red radish
plants, and in doing so, established the possible effects of acid rain on plants. It was hypothesized that
the acid would take all nutrients from the soil, therefore harming the plants. In this lab, three plants
two experimentals and one control were monitored after receiving either acid water or tap water. After
the experiment was conducted, it was plain to see that the plants were affected negatively by the acid
water, as the plants to receive the acid water immediately showed symptoms of nutrient deficiencies,
therefore proving the hypothesis. As such, acid rain was proved to be a danger to the environment, as
it destroys nutrients in the soil, therefore killing the plants. Without efforts to minimize acid rain, it
could potentially destroy the ecosystem.
Introduction
The purpose of this lab is to determine whether or not acidic water affects the growth of red radish
plants. Vinegar with a similar acidic pH as acid rain was used to water plants to simulate the effects of
acid rain which is a current problem.. The pH used was 3.5. In comparison, the tap water was a pH of
7, a neutral liquid. By simulating acid rain and observing how the vinegar affects the plant, it will be
possible to come to a conclusion about how acid rain may affect crops.

My Dream In Life
It was just another typical, and boring day in Hopedale, Massachusetts. Working on a farm meant
blood, sweat, and sometimes even tears. I walked up to the barn to milk the cows, and fed freshly
picked vegetables to the pigs, afterward I made my way two miles to the flea market to sell my milk
and wool. By the time I got back, it had reached dusk, the sky was filled with gorgeous, bright stars
that filled every crack of the dark night sky. I was exhausted and filthy, I smelt like dirty socks that
hadn t been washed in years. As soon as I got home, I hopped into the shower, the warm water
dripping from my hair to my toes. I ran my fingers through the rough tangles in my curly brown hair.
As I grabbed the shampoo bottle I could feel my feet burning from the blisters on my the bottom of
my feet. I turned knob on the left side of the shower to turn off the water and reached for a dry towel
and wrapped it around my waist. Water trickled down my legs as I attempted to dry myself off. I
slipped into my favorite warm pajama pants and put on a large teal sweatshirt, then i got into bed and
pulled the covers up to my face and immediately dozed off into a deep sleep. I dreamt of the future a
life filled of adventure with a young boy that I could call my own. Suddenly, there was a loud, blaring
sound coming from across the room. RING RING RING RING I rushed to see where the commotion
was coming from, it was my phone, there were five missed calls from Jedd. Sweat rushed to my
hands, he

PTSD In Seven Pounds
The movie that was chosen for this reaction paper was Seven Pounds. Seven Pounds casts Will Smith
as the center of this movie. This movie was chosen based off the PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress
Disorder) that he experiences throughout the movie. Tim Thomas (Will Smith) was an engineer and
that particular night Tim and his fiancée were going out to celebrate the successful closing of a deal
and to propose to his fiancée. Tim was answering a text and caused an accident. In this crash seven
people were kilt including his fiancée. The theme of the movie can be thought of him trying to correct
his wrongs by doing good deeds. These good deeds are where he physically gives of himself. Some

Reflective Practice
As pointed out before, RP is a trending topic nowadays but also confusing. The ambiguity and the
overlapping use of terms complicate the understanding (hebert, tsingos 2014). Boud 1985 p.8 points
out that it is not a single facet term but a generic/umbrella one that involves a range of ideas and
activities. In order to apply the concept correctly to dental education, I will present different
definitions of related terms such as reflection, critical reflection and reflexivity. Reflective Practice
There is some consensus about the RP definition and it is generally understood as the process of
learning through and from experience towards gaining new insights of self and/or practice {Finlay,
2008 p.1}. It involves the examination of daily practical assumptions, the self awareness of the
practitioner and the critical evaluation of the own action. RP breaks the assumption that reflection
happens ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This definition links feelings and cognition. It also presumes an intentional activity, or purpose
learning (Moon, Amulya date) which is in line with many definitions of reflection (Dewey, Moon).
However, reflection could be only thinking about something, and not necessary in a deeply, carefully
or purposefully way. Therefore, there is an argument for having different levels of reflection (see van
manen, hebert, mezirow), All of these suggests that critical reflection is the highest or the most
important level, and it is this that I consider next. Critical Reflection Mezirow (1990) contemplated
reflective practice and identified that there was more to reflection than simply thinking about
experiences, suggesting that critical reflection involves a critique on the assumptions on which our
beliefs and values have developed (hickson p.

movie was focused on how divorcing someone with a mental health issues can affect that person s
reality. It, also focused on the lives of the children involved, and how their parents marriage plays a
role in their relationships. However for a person with a mental health disease like clinical depression, I
would assume there would be some feeling of being attacked or lack of safety, so this is why I think Id
might also play a part. I think Eve also would have felt a sense anxiety with the upcoming divorce,
which caused her suicide attempt the first time, and then her actual suicide when she saw the marriage
had taken place. With regard to Take Shelter , I think Superego is primarily supported. There was a ...

Analysis Of The Article Dear Students Don t Let...
Corrupt college professors are ruining students chances of getting a quality education. Students will
typically get that hunch that a professor might be out the get them, but in reality those professors are
actually out to get the whole student body. When these decrepit professors are in the classroom, they
are not hip on modern teaching methods. This is detrimental to a student who just needs a quality
education to keep up with the competitive working world that we have come to today. The article Dear
Students: Don t Let College Unplug Your Future is an effective argument to convince incoming
freshmen at Brigham Young University and current BYU freshmen not to let the academic tradition
get in the way of their learning by the use of allusions, colloquial diction, anecdotes and humor to
establish a bond of trust between himself and the reader.
Throughout the article Gideon Burton uses colloquial diction to put himself at the reader s level. Holy
trapped in old school , is a prime example of the many uses of colloquial diction that he has woven in
and out of the pages of his article (47). He uses this to have more of an effect on the expected
audience. He knows that the young college kids do not want to read ten pages of a verbose professor
ranting about how he believes that the internet is needed in college. He would have a limited audience
without the diction that he uses. This creates a bond between Gideon and the audience. His use of
diction automatically helps him to

adopted many effective ways to revitalize the economy with the result that its economy rose abruptly
after the World war II. However, because Japan entered a liquidity trap around 1990s, and experienced
a Lost Decade (Hiyashi and Prescott, 2002), the government experienced many economic problems

adopted by Bank of Japan was wrong. It will also give some suggestions about the monetary policy
according to Japan s economy.
In general, the point of this dissertation is to focus on the monetary policy of Japan during bubble
economy period and to identify whether Bank of Japan did right or wrong in such period.
Literature Review
The background of Japanese Monetary policy in Bubble economy period
As Walsh (2003) said that, a social loss function dependent on inflation and output gap is the
appropriate objective of monetary policy which indicates that the level of inflation and output are the
major factors that affect monetary policy of all countries. Moreover, Castelnuovo and Surico (2010)
claimed that inflation are the key elements to decided a monetary policy for a county. For the Japan
economy, it experienced a disaster during the period 1986 1991, which named Japanese asset price
bubble (Wood, Christopher, 2005). It leaded a long term economic depression japan after that. The
main reason for the bubble economy is the extremely high inflation rate and output. As mentioned
before, Japan was sustained a rapid development after world war II, the main industry of Japan is
manufacturing industry. After the Plaza Accord

Emotional Intelligence Papers
Emotional Intelligence
In this paper, I will thoroughly describe how an EI level can enhance or hamper being an effective
leader. I will also explain in detail five of the core themes, gratitude, compassion, empathy,
forgiveness, and mindfulness. Emotional Intelligence and understanding the core themes is beneficial
in everyday life. As leaders, it is essential and will assist in providing a positive work environment.
Emotional Intelligence in Leadership
Having Emotional Intelligence (EI) in leadership is important. A leader who is emotionally aware and
is accomplished in emotional intelligence can result in an improved team performance. An EI leader
can pick up on various emotions that can help them steer their staff in a better direction. According to
our class readings, the Mayer and Salovey theory created the term Emotional Intelligence. They
described EI as one s ability to read the emotions of others. They described EI into four different parts;

Being mindful of our surroundings is essential. We must accept how we feel and be mindful at that
moment. Being mindful as a leader helps you recognize when someone is in need. As a nurse, it is
important to be mindful of your patient s needs which will help improve the overall quality of care.
Conclusion
This paper has described how having an adequate EI can enhance someone in leadership. It has also
described how having a low EI can hamper someone in a leadership role. I have also discussed five of
the core themes, gratitude, compassion, empathy, forgiveness, and mindfulness. This paper has shown
the importance of having these qualities and using them daily in our relationships. Whether you re a
bedside nurse or a leader of a large institution, having a high level of emotional intelligence and
understanding core values, makes for a better quality environment and a better

Should Heart Of Darkness Be Taught In Schools
Heart of Darkness by Joseph Conrad is a highly debated book over whether or not it should be read in
schools. Many people see Heart of Darkness as a racist book that is blatantly offensive to African
Americans, but others view Heart of Darkness as an important book that explores many complex
ideas, such as the internal conflict between a man s sanity and insanity, and Conrad s opposition to
Imperialism, which was very prevalent during the time the book was written. While the opponents of
Heart of Darkness say that this book should not be read in schools, I believe the book can be utilized
in an academic environment. The opposers to this book do make a reasonable and correct point that
this book uses very strong language and seems to be racist, Conrad did not intend to convey racist
perspectives, rather, taking on that role to further his point towards Imperialism. Although it uses
strong language in the book, that was used to show how Europeans viewed Africans during the time
period. This should be read in an academic environment because it is a very well written text and can
be used to show the effect of Imperialism during the 19th and 20th century. ... Show more content on

Genetically Engineered Crops Essay
Many of our crops today are what you would call genetically engineered. This means that certain
plants are taken to a lab where specific genes are genetically enhanced with desired traits such as
resistance to herbicides, insecticides, drought, and even improved nutritional content. While that may
sound like a win for everyone such as the farmers as well as the consumers, there are many
disadvantages that not only affect our health, but our environment as well as the economy. With
several facts that have been shown, the good in GE crops should not outweigh the bad and in the end,
we may be solving a problem now, but creating a much bigger one for our future. Genetically

The next great idea was to have GE crops with insecticides. This meant less use of pest control sprays
to keep out the unwanted insects. However, just like the theory of the super weed many insects have
become more tolerable to the insecticides used in the crops like some populations of mosquitos did to
the now banned pesticide DDT. Not only that, but some GE crops with insecticides have already
caused unintentional harm to many non crop damaging insects such as the monarch caterpillars. The
fear is that the pollen from the GE insecticide crops will blow over to a neighboring non GE crop such
as milkweed which caterpillars feed on. If the monarch caterpillars eat the GE crop pollen they will
die. Unfortunately, there is no way to create a toxin that only kills crop damaging insects (Harmful or
Helpful?). Another reason why genetically engineered crops are seriously flawed and should not be
grown for the safety of the environment that surrounds them. Unfortunately the bad news doesn t stop
there, it gets worse and it s at the expense of our health. In 1990 a study was done on rats who were

Francesco Borromini Research Paper
Francesco Borromini is the most quintessential Baroque architect of all time. Though he was born in
Canton Ticino in the Alps, he came to Rome early and remained for the rest of his life. He was
suspicious and dedicated, evident in that he carefully supervised his designs from models, to drawings,
and even to the completed structure. His works, such as the church of San Carlo alle Quattro Fontane
and the church of Sant Agnese in Agone, still stand today and continue to show his amazing skill and
expertise, and they still show his unrelenting pursuit of perfection. The church of San Carlo alle
Quattro Fontane is Borromini s first independent commission. He received the commission from
Cardinal Francesco Barberini in 1934, but Barberini s initial interest in funding the church had

Before they were decommissioned, the foundation and many of the lower walls were constructed. To
increase the originality of the plan, Borromini disrupted the longitudinal stress drastically. He
extended the transverse arms so that the eye would be led to the left and right and away from the high
altar. The wall area was also changed so that the crossing became an exact octagon. Borromini s chief
contribution was his facade. By the time he resigned, the facade reached cornice level and the dome
was completed as far as the lanterns. When Carlo Rainaldi returned he hollowed out the piers,
providing space for altars with retables and space for oratories. The church of San Carlo and the
church of Sant Agnese have a few similarities, the most obvious one being that both are Roman
churches by Borromini. However, they also started out as a greek cross plan, and both had a lack of
aisles. Because they were churches, they were funded by Vatican officials, namely Cardinal Francesco

The Importance Of Civil Rights In The NFL Players
Players from the National Football League(NFL) are taking a stand for the violation of civil rights in
our country. This started to be an issue when Colin Kaepernick took a knee during the playing of the
national anthem. In many eyes, the ways these NFL players are expressing their opinion is very
frowned upon. It has snowballed into a heated viewpoint of the NFL and has many fans
boycotting. The NFL stars are protesting violations in civil rights in an unpopular fashion because the
national anthem is not the problem rather than the events occurring in our country, there are alternate
ways to protest, and tv ratings are crashing. The national anthem is not the problem rather than the
events occurring in our country. Colin Kaepernick said, I am not going to stand up to show pride in a
flag for a country that oppresses black people and people of color, (Wyche, 2016). With his decision to
kneel during the anthem it has lead to many problems associated with the NFL. Problems associated
with his decision to kneel includes tv ratings and merchandise sells of the NFL are at an all time low.
Another problem is that teams are afraid to sign Colin Kaepernick and get in the middle of all of the
controversy surrounding him. The reason he chose to kneel during the anthem is that he has the right
to exercise whether or not he participate. He was eager in his attempts to prove a point and get his
message across. Some may feel he has done an excellent job while others are very unhappy

Evaluation Of Neurological Role Of Self Regulation
Chapter 1 Neurological role of self regulation in resilience
One approach of emotional self regulation is reappraisal, as a strategy for diminishing negative affect.
Oschner et al. (2002) examined this in an fMRI study focusing on the neurological basis of reappraisal
and it s efficacy as a possible coping strategy to negative stimuli or stressors. The study employed
fifteen neurotypical right handed female volunteers. They were then placed into two conditions, an
attend trial, where they were tasked with allowing themselves to respond emotionally and be mindful
of their emotions without trying to alter them, and a reappraise trial, where they were asked to

This suggests that the medial prefrontal cortex may mediate fear responses (Bremner, 2006) and
therefore be an area of interest as a neurological basis for cognitive self regulatory strategies. While
the presence of good self regulation may be key to greater resilience failure to self regulate may form
the basis for multiple risky behaviors such as addiction, risky sexual behavior, and poor financial
planning and decision making. For example Shroeder (2007) suggest that 40% of deaths in America
are the result of poor self regulation; it is for this reason that emotional regulation is a significant
component of self regulation, as poor emotional affect may lead to poor behavioral control including
risky and aggressive behavior, as well as bingeing. This may particularly be the case during
adolescence, where an increase in risky behavior is observed as a result of a decreased capacity for
self regulation, which may be re established during adulthood due to restructuring of the prefrontal
cortex (Steinberg, 2008)
Schardt et al. (2010), suggest that increased relationships between the lateral prefrontal cortex and the
amygdala results in increased success at self regulation in the form of emotion regulation. Thus, a
decrease in links between the neuronal structures is often found in individuals with mood disorders
such

This leads to oedema, coagulation in alveolar spaces causing deficit of anatomical structure function.
This injury can take up to 24 hours to develop eventually leading to poor perfusion, increased
pulmonary vascular resistance and decreased lung compliance. 50 60% of patients with significant
pulmonary contusions will develop bilateral Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (ARDS)...
(trauma.org 2004)
Pulmonary contusions is hard to diagnose and can only be evaluated by the mechanism of injury
(MOI) , such as obvious signs of chest wall trauma such as contusion, fractures or flail chest. Crackles
may be heard on auscultation but are rarely heard in the emergency room and are non specific.
This contusion involves injury to alveolar capillaries, resulting in accumulation of blood and fluids
within the lung tissue. This causes a V≉Q mismatch, increased intrapulmonary shunting, fluid shift
and segmental lung damage. Causing hypoxemia, hypercarbia and increases laboured breathing.
Blood loss of 150ml is usual for a single uncomplicated rib fracture. This amount of blood loss is not
life threatening on its own. If this blood enters the plural space it becomes a heamothorax.
Heamothorax can occur when bleeding penetrates into the pleural space. This can cause hemodynamic
and respiratory changes depending on the amount of blood loss. The pleural space can hold 4 or more
litters of blood causing shock. Due to the

Holden Caulfield Mental Illness
In the 1950 s, mental illness was still largely misunderstood by the public. Most had misconceptions
that people with a mental illness were violent and scary as many equated mental illness with psychosis
. Today, mental health has become less taboo, and science has worked to deepen our understanding of
it (Phelan 189). Using this research, it is now possible to diagnose people more accurately than sixty
years ago. While it has long been debated how to diagnose the main character, Holden Caulfield, from
J.D. Salinger s The Catcher in the Rye, modern science may help. In this novel, Holden tells the story
of how he ended up in a mental institution. Taking place over three days, he tells of his battle with
isolation from peers, family, and strangers. Evidence from this novel suggests that Holden has reactive
attachment disorder, or RAD. RAD is caused by a traumatic experience in childhood (Institute) which
in Holden s case was neglect. Holden says that his parents were occupied and all before the had [him]
(Salinger 3), and they sent him to many boarding schools. His parents ignore the roles normally
fulfilled by parents. When Holden mentions family outings, his parents aren t involved. For example,
his older brother took him and his sister to see Hamlet (Salinger 130). In addition, they have a woman,
Charlene, cook for the kids while his parents go out and have fun (Salinger 196). When his parents are
home, Holden still does not have a stable home life. Like many children

Sky Cathedral Presence
Survey of World Art
By
Vyacheslav Borts
The sculptress Louise Nevelson was a towering figure of American modernism. Born in 1899, she
came to prominence in the late 50s, gaining renown for monochromatic structures built out of
discarded wood. Critic Arthur C. Danto wrote, There could be no better word for how Nevelson
composed her work than bricolage a French term that means making do with what is at hand. (Danto
2007) Her pieces evolved and expanded in size across the latter 20th century, moving from smaller
pieces to wall sized ones, and the plays of volume therein, between light and mass, generated
comparisons to numerous different movements. The following paper will examine these ... Show more

The poignancy of this girl s untimely death and the instant of life the Grave Stele captures are both
magnified by the weight and constancy of the marble. By contrast, Nevelson achieves something like
suppleness in Sky Cathedral by her use of multiple layers and multiple new spaces that emerge from
different vantage points. From the Attic Greek to the Augustan age brings one to the Imperial
Procession, located on the North frieze of the Ara Pacis Augustae (Fig. 4). The first two sculptures put
into conversation with Sky Cathedral were mortuary, but the Imperial Procession is celebratory. The
first two are both smaller than four feet, but the Procession is life sized, so its visual force is thus
magnified. Finally, the individuals therein are not idealized types, in contrast to earlier Greek modes
of statuary they naturalistic depictions of many actual people in the line of the Caesars. The Ara Pacis
took four years to build, due to its desired scale and quality, and that scale points to a salient evolution
from the Greeks to the Romans. Riegl claimed this vector went from what he call[ed] the haptic
objectivism of the Greeks the delineation of the clarity of the object through an appeal to and a
stimulation of the tactile associations of the viewer to the optical objectivism of Roman art, in which
the need to set the figure up in space as radically

The Truth about Cowboy Types
For most Americans in this age, the word cowboy will call to mind iconic images of a horseman
wearing a wide brimmed hat, a belt of bullets, and a flannel shirt; he might be guiding his herd lazily
along grassy plains, singing folk songs around a campfire with his companions under a starry sky,
riding off with a beautiful ranch girl into an iconic sunset backdrop, or even wearing a mask and
enforcing vigilante justice in a small town terrorized by hardened western thugs or hostile Native
Americans. These clichés are drawn mostly from the hundreds of movies and television productions
that claim the title Western . This cinematic conception of the cowboy was a personification of the
American spirit of rugged individualism and intrepid pioneering but it is largely only the result of
Hollywood westerns of the 20th century, and not consistent with the actual reality of cowboy life.
While there were many different types of cowboys spread across the Americas with drastically
different lifestyles, mannerisms, reputations, and backgrounds, by far the most easily recognized are
the Anglo cowboys of the American West, and the Mexican vaqueros. As the eastern cattle herding
practices spread further west, and Mexican vaqueros moved north, they met in the American western
frontier; Moving further west to the semi arid plains, the habits and techniques of southeastern Anglo
cowboys changed substantially under the influence of Mexico s vaqueros (Slatta 18). Though from

Objective:
We will be using various combinations of distilled water, hydrogen peroxide, malonic acid, ascorbic
acid (Vitamin C), acetic acid (Vinegar), starch solution, laundry detergent, iodine tincture, manganese
sulfate, and sulfamic acid to produce multiple pairs of solutions labeled Solution A and Solution B.
The goal is to either observe the process of fluorescence or the absence of fluorescence. Fluorescence

Make sure to pour Solution B into Solution A, then mix throughly.
Observations:
After swirling the resulting solution, its appearance kept cycling through the color yellow and
appearing colorless. However, there was constantly a small patch of blue residue caused by some
undissolved starch powder. There was some gas formation during this process. After 5 minutes, we
stopped swirling the beaker and let it sit in the fume hood. 15 to 20 minutes later, the solution began to
turn dark blue.
PART B:
Making ascorbic acid (Vitamin C solution)

fine powder. Next, move the powder into a new 50 mL beaker and pour exactly 1 tablespoon of
distilled water into the beaker. Then, obtain a glass stir rod to partially mix the solution, allowing any
remaining solids to drown to the bottom of the beaker. Keep track of this beaker since the acid will be

The New Model For Art
Placing the interests of the entire world above those of an individual nation became the new model for
art in the contemporary world and this movement was known as globalism. With the increases in
digital technology, global integration of art and culture became significantly easier and more
prominent. Although, globalism brought a new knowledge of culture from other nations and allowed
certain countries to emerge as super powers not everything was beneficial. Terrorism rocked western
civilizations such as Britain and the Unites States with attacks from the extremist group knows as Al

505). Although terrorism was not developed recently but rather has been around for a while, the rapid
and new forms of technology and communication as well as the availability of weapons made the
issue more prominent and devastating. Especially after the devastating 9 11 terrorist attacks on the
Twin Towers in New York and the Pentagon. Since then the war on terror has spread too much of the
Middle East, and the already tense atmosphere was made worse with Sunni and Shi ite civil wars,
terrorism was a fear that was all too real and possible. With such a devastating lost after 9 11 and over
3000 civilians killed, many artists commemorated those who died in the tragic attack with paintings or
eulogies, such as Johns Adams, On the Transmigration of Souls (p.505) or paintings of people leaping
to their death just moments before the towers collapsed. It wasn t until years later where literary
reflections of the incident were starting to be created that a stronger voice spoke up regarding what
was seen as a moral urgency as terrorist attacks were beginning to occur in other parts of the world
and were unfortunately becoming a common thing. Seamus Heaney, an Irish author, wrote the most
controversial piece, called The Terrorist, He Watched after the bombings in London on the metro.

addition, the majority of the research will be focused in Canada with some comparisons to other
Temperate Rainforests in different countries. Forests are a very important part of our planet; not only
do they supply resources for humans, but they also provide food and shelter to many different species
of animals, insects, birds and plants. Old Growth Forests are characterized by their population of all
aged trees, logs scattered across the forest floor (Freedman et al., 2015, p. 347). The purpose of this

Gender And Gender Socialization
Gender is defined by the Merriam Webster dictionary as the behavioral, cultural, or psychological
traits typically associated with one sex (2017). Gender and the way we carry out gender have been
linked to many different terms to try to create a better understanding of why we have or do gender
accordingly to what was assigned at birth. Through the process of gender socialization, a plethora of
social norms and expectations are bestowed upon all individuals as early as when an embryo s sex is
determined. To further describe and understand the prevalence of gender and its socialization I spent a
night and a day with my little cousins Leah age 5 (Female) and Landon age 4 (Male). They are a part
of a biracial four family member household in which their dad works full time and is the sole earner of
resources and their mom is in school and works a part time job. I believe the structure of their family
is modeled as the typical American Family and as far as their family s classification in an economic
class, they would be considered Upper Middle class. After taking their economic class into
consideration I have realized that these children are and will be able to gain access to more resources
associated with gender than their lower classed counter parts. Not meaning that they will be more
aware of how their gender is supposed to act but they will have access more access to resources like
being able to obtain psychological help and education.

Essay about J. Alfred Prufrock
J. Alfred Prufrock is He Gay When we read T. S. Eliot s The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock you
almost get the feeling that Prufrock is gay. In fact, when the story is read a bit more in depth you can
conclude that he is gay.
The first flag that is raised to our attention of prufrock being gay is the fact that not once do we hear
the name of his so called lover or even him calling her a lady. Therefore we might be able to conclude
that this lady is in fact a guy. This would in turn bring up many situations in the story that are not
brought to light if this story was read in different text.
Prufrock is very insecure about himself. This is especially seen in the first ten lines. He is insecure

He wants to murder the mask that he is wearing. He wants to come out and then recreate himself.
However, when the first realization of his homosexuality comes to mind Prufrock starts second
guessing himself. In lines thirty one through thirty four we see this in decisiveness. Prufrock then
starts thinking of his appearance if he were to let this be known. He thinks about how his perfect
world is not ready for a idea of this magnitude to come forth. Prufrock knows that if his
homosexuality was to be known, the perfect universe that he knows would the destroyed.
At first glance lines forty nine through sixty one seem to be about him wanting death. This, however,
is not the case. Furthermore, we see him asking himself what he should do if he does come out and tell
people of his sexuality. He is weighing the possibilities and the reprocutions of his decision. He
finnaly comes to the conclusion that evrything is alright now and he does not want to disturb this
peacfulness. Line eighty seven clearly tells us that he did not come out. Yet he is also second guessing
his decision. No, he tells himself, it would not have been worth his own morality to ruin everyones
perfect picture of himself. Prufrock would miss the boring events, or would he?
In truth, we find that Prufrock would have rather told the truth about his homosexuality. But, we find
that he is insecure about himself. With his lack of insecurity

The Stages Of Clinical Reasoning
Clinical reasoning can be defined as, the process by which nurses (and other clinicians) collect cues,
process the information, come to an understanding of a patient s problem or situation, plan and
implement interventions, evaluate outcomes and reflect on and learn from the process (Levett Jones
Hoffman 2013, p.4). It requires health professionals to be able to think critically and ensures better
engagement and results for the patient (Tanner 2006, p.209). The Quality in Australian Healthcare
Study (Wilson 1995, p.460) discovered that cognitive failure resulted in approximately 57% of
unfavourable clinical events involving the failure to produce and act correctly on clinical information.
It also recognises that often nurse s preconceptions and assumptions can greatly affect patient care and
by going through such a process, one can take into account the holistic nature of the patient and
provide the best, most appropriate care. Process Information The third stage in the clinical reasoning
cycle is process information. This involves the gathering of signs and indications and the recognition
of patterns (Levett Jones Hoffman 2013 p.5). It is also when one can begin to form hypotheses and
predict potential outcomes. In regards to Mrs Checkett s case, there are many cues that need to be
taken into consideration in order to best care for her. According to Chester and Rudolph (2012, p.2),
vital signs in the elderly change due to the reduction of function of homeostatic

  • 2. That s Not Funny Mike Celestin Analysis Mike Celestino is a small time director and comedy fan, who looks at the inner workings of comedy to reflect on its effect on the shaping of American culture in his documentary, That s Not Funny. The audience isn t specific in nature, just anyone who has ears and an interest in comedy. His purpose was to argue the value of comedy, and the reflection of it on our lives. Analyzing the trends of comedy from the early times of film until now, the documentary expresses censorship and its importance on the art form. Cultural change is viewed through his demonstration of comedy history, the perception of the comedy, and successes and failures of each. Bringing in some of the largest names in stand up ties his argument to the use of laughter to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Starting with Ancient Greece and following into vaudeville and the variety of acts it included, yet even then, before motion films, artists who didn t succumb to the suggestion of leaving out any blue material faced backlash. Next, during the time when the great war was in our midst, Adolf Hitler became a key factor of scrutiny for the comedic realm, and still arises in many television shows, movies, and comics today. The humor found from using Hitler is an attempt for easement of emotions felt from his reign of terror, where we can find solace in his misfortunes. Afterwards, Mike brings in those three comedians that are esteemed as the best in their art, but that didn t make their job easy. Lenny Bruce, George Carlin, and Richard Pryor all faced tremendous turbulence throughout their careers. Bruce was arrested for use of profanity during an act, severely affecting his career. Pryor s use of derogatory racial terms, and making fun of his own drug use, fell outside the box. Carlin s Seven Words You Can Never Say on Television, got him arrested and eventually resulted in a Supreme Court case in 1978 against what should be considered indecent material. Indecency is wholly subjective and therefore impossible to lay down a hard lined definition for, here, Celestino is explaining the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

What Is The Statue Of The Fearless Girl inish academic writing Ο Νον ΟΟ The Fearless Girl is a Symbol of the Progress of the Times The Fearless Girl, which is New York s biggest public art controversy in recent years. After controversy over the statue s placement, people are divided on whether it s a symbol of (h Cart, , ) eminist strength or questionable corporate marketing. In New York, where there is hardly a woman s statue, the presence of this statue has undoubtedly brought power to feminism. Many people think this is a very important statue. However, not all critics are obsessed with fearless girls. There are also many critics. It also included Arturo Di Modica, the sculptor of the bull. • 4. Ernst s Art As a Surrealist pioneer, Ernst s art displayed some of the most radical and unorthodox imagery in the early 1920s. Violence and pain were perhaps the most avant garde elements of Ernst s art, and this perception is on full display in one of Ernst collages displayed during Breton s Paris Au Sans Pareil exhibition, The Preparation of Bone Glue. It depicts a diathermy process in which an electrical current treats joint ailments (Kavky 2012); his use of violence and pain as both cause and cure intensifies the victimization of the woman (Kavky 2012). The Preparation of Bone Glue is widely considered as an early example of Surrealist art, and Ernst s early work with the mentally ill provided significant influence into the troubled minds of some patients. From a personal perspective, Massacre of the Innocents, released in 1920, represents one of the more unique and grotesque representations; the imagery in the collage is akin to a modern day crime scene. Ernst made ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Various sources quote Breton as expressing unparalleled admiration (Susik 2011) and Surrealism found immediate confirmation in [Ernst s] collages from 1920, which reflect a completely new concept of visual organization (Spies, et al. 2005). Furthermore, one article described this moment in Surrealist art as central to the movement s research into psychoanalytic theory and the development of its visual practice (Kavky 2012). The impact of Ernst s contributions motivated Breton to pen a brief essay entitled Max Ernst reflecting Breton s bald enthusiasm for Ernst s unique brand of collages (Susik 2011); Breton practically wrote the essay overnight following the unpacking of Ernst s crate of collages (Susik 2011). Furthermore, Breton called Ernst one of the most remarkable minds of the age (Susik ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. The Effects Of Acid Rain On Plants Abstract Acid rain is a current issue due to the potential danger it could pose to plant life in the case that it is harmful to plants. In this lab, it was determined whether or not acid water was harmful to red radish plants, and in doing so, established the possible effects of acid rain on plants. It was hypothesized that the acid would take all nutrients from the soil, therefore harming the plants. In this lab, three plants two experimentals and one control were monitored after receiving either acid water or tap water. After the experiment was conducted, it was plain to see that the plants were affected negatively by the acid water, as the plants to receive the acid water immediately showed symptoms of nutrient deficiencies, therefore proving the hypothesis. As such, acid rain was proved to be a danger to the environment, as it destroys nutrients in the soil, therefore killing the plants. Without efforts to minimize acid rain, it could potentially destroy the ecosystem. Introduction The purpose of this lab is to determine whether or not acidic water affects the growth of red radish plants. Vinegar with a similar acidic pH as acid rain was used to water plants to simulate the effects of acid rain which is a current problem.. The pH used was 3.5. In comparison, the tap water was a pH of 7, a neutral liquid. By simulating acid rain and observing how the vinegar affects the plant, it will be possible to come to a conclusion about how acid rain may affect crops. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. My Dream In Life It was just another typical, and boring day in Hopedale, Massachusetts. Working on a farm meant blood, sweat, and sometimes even tears. I walked up to the barn to milk the cows, and fed freshly picked vegetables to the pigs, afterward I made my way two miles to the flea market to sell my milk and wool. By the time I got back, it had reached dusk, the sky was filled with gorgeous, bright stars that filled every crack of the dark night sky. I was exhausted and filthy, I smelt like dirty socks that hadn t been washed in years. As soon as I got home, I hopped into the shower, the warm water dripping from my hair to my toes. I ran my fingers through the rough tangles in my curly brown hair. As I grabbed the shampoo bottle I could feel my feet burning from the blisters on my the bottom of my feet. I turned knob on the left side of the shower to turn off the water and reached for a dry towel and wrapped it around my waist. Water trickled down my legs as I attempted to dry myself off. I slipped into my favorite warm pajama pants and put on a large teal sweatshirt, then i got into bed and pulled the covers up to my face and immediately dozed off into a deep sleep. I dreamt of the future a life filled of adventure with a young boy that I could call my own. Suddenly, there was a loud, blaring sound coming from across the room. RING RING RING RING I rushed to see where the commotion was coming from, it was my phone, there were five missed calls from Jedd. Sweat rushed to my hands, he ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This movie was chosen based off the PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) that he experiences throughout the movie. Tim Thomas (Will Smith) was an engineer and that particular night Tim and his fiancée were going out to celebrate the successful closing of a deal and to propose to his fiancée. Tim was answering a text and caused an accident. In this crash seven people were kilt including his fiancée. The theme of the movie can be thought of him trying to correct his wrongs by doing good deeds. These good deeds are where he physically gives of himself. • 8. Reflective Practice As pointed out before, RP is a trending topic nowadays but also confusing. The ambiguity and the overlapping use of terms complicate the understanding (hebert, tsingos 2014). Boud 1985 p.8 points out that it is not a single facet term but a generic/umbrella one that involves a range of ideas and activities. In order to apply the concept correctly to dental education, I will present different definitions of related terms such as reflection, critical reflection and reflexivity. Reflective Practice There is some consensus about the RP definition and it is generally understood as the process of learning through and from experience towards gaining new insights of self and/or practice {Finlay, 2008 p.1}. It involves the examination of daily practical assumptions, the self awareness of the practitioner and the critical evaluation of the own action. RP breaks the assumption that reflection happens ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This definition links feelings and cognition. It also presumes an intentional activity, or purpose learning (Moon, Amulya date) which is in line with many definitions of reflection (Dewey, Moon). However, reflection could be only thinking about something, and not necessary in a deeply, carefully or purposefully way. Therefore, there is an argument for having different levels of reflection (see van manen, hebert, mezirow), All of these suggests that critical reflection is the highest or the most important level, and it is this that I consider next. Critical Reflection Mezirow (1990) contemplated reflective practice and identified that there was more to reflection than simply thinking about experiences, suggesting that critical reflection involves a critique on the assumptions on which our beliefs and values have developed (hickson p. ... The movie was focused on how divorcing someone with a mental health issues can affect that person s reality. It, also focused on the lives of the children involved, and how their parents marriage plays a role in their relationships. However for a person with a mental health disease like clinical depression, I would assume there would be some feeling of being attacked or lack of safety, so this is why I think Id might also play a part. I think Eve also would have felt a sense anxiety with the upcoming divorce, which caused her suicide attempt the first time, and then her actual suicide when she saw the marriage had taken place. With regard to Take Shelter , I think Superego is primarily supported. There was a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Everyone is looking at Curtis in either an accusatory or judgmental way. Curtis s ex coworker approaches him and his family, and tells him to leave, that no one wants him there. When Curtis refuses, his ex coworker attacks him. No one tries to intercede in this fight, or come to Curtis s aid. They are all judging Curtis for either being a thief or crazy. I do believe that the film industry has some moral obligation to provide if nothing else, both sides of the issue. Too often we see so much violence, and not enough compassion for people with mental health issues. • 11. Analysis Of The Article Dear Students Don t Let... Corrupt college professors are ruining students chances of getting a quality education. Students will typically get that hunch that a professor might be out the get them, but in reality those professors are actually out to get the whole student body. When these decrepit professors are in the classroom, they are not hip on modern teaching methods. This is detrimental to a student who just needs a quality education to keep up with the competitive working world that we have come to today. The article Dear Students: Don t Let College Unplug Your Future is an effective argument to convince incoming freshmen at Brigham Young University and current BYU freshmen not to let the academic tradition get in the way of their learning by the use of allusions, colloquial diction, anecdotes and humor to establish a bond of trust between himself and the reader. Throughout the article Gideon Burton uses colloquial diction to put himself at the reader s level. Holy trapped in old school , is a prime example of the many uses of colloquial diction that he has woven in and out of the pages of his article (47). He uses this to have more of an effect on the expected audience. He knows that the young college kids do not want to read ten pages of a verbose professor ranting about how he believes that the internet is needed in college. He would have a limited audience without the diction that he uses. This creates a bond between Gideon and the audience. His use of diction automatically helps him to ... • 14. Should Heart Of Darkness Be Taught In Schools Heart of Darkness by Joseph Conrad is a highly debated book over whether or not it should be read in schools. Many people see Heart of Darkness as a racist book that is blatantly offensive to African Americans, but others view Heart of Darkness as an important book that explores many complex ideas, such as the internal conflict between a man s sanity and insanity, and Conrad s opposition to Imperialism, which was very prevalent during the time the book was written. While the opponents of Heart of Darkness say that this book should not be read in schools, I believe the book can be utilized in an academic environment. The opposers to this book do make a reasonable and correct point that this book uses very strong language and seems to be racist, Conrad did not intend to convey racist perspectives, rather, taking on that role to further his point towards Imperialism. Although it uses strong language in the book, that was used to show how Europeans viewed Africans during the time period. This means that certain plants are taken to a lab where specific genes are genetically enhanced with desired traits such as resistance to herbicides, insecticides, drought, and even improved nutritional content. While that may sound like a win for everyone such as the farmers as well as the consumers, there are many disadvantages that not only affect our health, but our environment as well as the economy. This meant less use of pest control sprays to keep out the unwanted insects. However, just like the theory of the super weed many insects have become more tolerable to the insecticides used in the crops like some populations of mosquitos did to the now banned pesticide DDT. Not only that, but some GE crops with insecticides have already caused unintentional harm to many non crop damaging insects such as the monarch caterpillars. The fear is that the pollen from the GE insecticide crops will blow over to a neighboring non GE crop such as milkweed which caterpillars feed on. If the monarch caterpillars eat the GE crop pollen they will die. Unfortunately, there is no way to create a toxin that only kills crop damaging insects (Harmful or Helpful?). Another reason why genetically engineered crops are seriously flawed and should not be grown for the safety of the environment that surrounds them. Though he was born in Canton Ticino in the Alps, he came to Rome early and remained for the rest of his life. He was suspicious and dedicated, evident in that he carefully supervised his designs from models, to drawings, and even to the completed structure. His works, such as the church of San Carlo alle Quattro Fontane and the church of Sant Agnese in Agone, still stand today and continue to show his amazing skill and expertise, and they still show his unrelenting pursuit of perfection. Oschner et al. (2002) examined this in an fMRI study focusing on the neurological basis of reappraisal and it s efficacy as a possible coping strategy to negative stimuli or stressors. The study employed fifteen neurotypical right handed female volunteers. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This suggests that the medial prefrontal cortex may mediate fear responses (Bremner, 2006) and therefore be an area of interest as a neurological basis for cognitive self regulatory strategies. While the presence of good self regulation may be key to greater resilience failure to self regulate may form the basis for multiple risky behaviors such as addiction, risky sexual behavior, and poor financial planning and decision making. For example Shroeder (2007) suggest that 40% of deaths in America are the result of poor self regulation; it is for this reason that emotional regulation is a significant component of self regulation, as poor emotional affect may lead to poor behavioral control including risky and aggressive behavior, as well as bingeing. This may particularly be the case during adolescence, where an increase in risky behavior is observed as a result of a decreased capacity for self regulation, which may be re established during adulthood due to restructuring of the prefrontal cortex (Steinberg, 2008) Schardt et al. (2010), suggest that increased relationships between the lateral prefrontal cortex and the amygdala results in increased success at self regulation in the form of emotion regulation. Thus, a decrease in links between the neuronal structures is often found in individuals with mood disorders such ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Today, mental health has become less taboo, and science has worked to deepen our understanding of it (Phelan 189). Using this research, it is now possible to diagnose people more accurately than sixty years ago. While it has long been debated how to diagnose the main character, Holden Caulfield, from J.D. Salinger s The Catcher in the Rye, modern science may help. In this novel, Holden tells the story of how he ended up in a mental institution. Taking place over three days, he tells of his battle with isolation from peers, family, and strangers. Evidence from this novel suggests that Holden has reactive attachment disorder, or RAD. RAD is caused by a traumatic experience in childhood (Institute) which in Holden s case was neglect. The Truth about Cowboy Types For most Americans in this age, the word cowboy will call to mind iconic images of a horseman wearing a wide brimmed hat, a belt of bullets, and a flannel shirt; he might be guiding his herd lazily along grassy plains, singing folk songs around a campfire with his companions under a starry sky, riding off with a beautiful ranch girl into an iconic sunset backdrop, or even wearing a mask and enforcing vigilante justice in a small town terrorized by hardened western thugs or hostile Native Americans. These clichés are drawn mostly from the hundreds of movies and television productions that claim the title Western . This cinematic conception of the cowboy was a personification of the American spirit of rugged individualism and intrepid pioneering but it is largely only the result of Hollywood westerns of the 20th century, and not consistent with the actual reality of cowboy life. While there were many different types of cowboys spread across the Americas with drastically different lifestyles, mannerisms, reputations, and backgrounds, by far the most easily recognized are the Anglo cowboys of the American West, and the Mexican vaqueros. To further describe and understand the prevalence of gender and its socialization I spent a night and a day with my little cousins Leah age 5 (Female) and Landon age 4 (Male). They are a part of a biracial four family member household in which their dad works full time and is the sole earner of resources and their mom is in school and works a part time job. I believe the structure of their family is modeled as the typical American Family and as far as their family s classification in an economic class, they would be considered Upper Middle class. After taking their economic class into consideration I have realized that these children are and will be able to gain access to more resources associated with gender than their lower classed counter parts. Not meaning that they will be more aware of how their gender is supposed to act but they will have access more access to resources like being able to obtain psychological help and education. At first glance lines forty nine through sixty one seem to be about him wanting death. This, however, is not the case. Furthermore, we see him asking himself what he should do if he does come out and tell people of his sexuality. He is weighing the possibilities and the reprocutions of his decision. He finnaly comes to the conclusion that evrything is alright now and he does not want to disturb this peacfulness. Line eighty seven clearly tells us that he did not come out. Yet he is also second guessing his decision. No, he tells himself, it would not have been worth his own morality to ruin everyones perfect picture of himself. • 35. The Stages Of Clinical Reasoning Clinical reasoning can be defined as, the process by which nurses (and other clinicians) collect cues, process the information, come to an understanding of a patient s problem or situation, plan and implement interventions, evaluate outcomes and reflect on and learn from the process (Levett Jones Hoffman 2013, p.4). It requires health professionals to be able to think critically and ensures better engagement and results for the patient (Tanner 2006, p.209). The Quality in Australian Healthcare Study (Wilson 1995, p.460) discovered that cognitive failure resulted in approximately 57% of unfavourable clinical events involving the failure to produce and act correctly on clinical information. It also recognises that often nurse s preconceptions and assumptions can greatly affect patient care and by going through such a process, one can take into account the holistic nature of the patient and provide the best, most appropriate care. Process Information The third stage in the clinical reasoning cycle is process information. This involves the gathering of signs and indications and the recognition of patterns (Levett Jones Hoffman 2013 p.5). It is also when one can begin to form hypotheses and predict potential outcomes. In regards to Mrs Checkett s case, there are many cues that need to be taken into consideration in order to best care for her. According to Chester and Rudolph (2012, p.2), vital signs in the elderly change due to the reduction of function of homeostatic ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
