London Is The Most Eclectic Megalopolis Of The West
Unusually, I was a late subscriber to the idea of observing deeply into the capital s wonders;
London is possibly the most eclectic megalopolis of the West, it stirs ambition like no other
place, in some professional sectors it s like swimming against the tide if you re not registered in
London. Realistically for me, it probably was six years ago, when I took note of what London
urbanity offers, before then, I was probably too busy, fatigued and self orientated to allow London
a laborious thought in the early noughties; I recall, it took a nudge from famous authors who
resided in the capital, such as Iain Sinclair, J.G. Ballard and Hanif Kureishi, to name a few, who
systematically embraced the capitalwithin their creative works. Their savoir faire wordage spurred
me on to experience London with fresh eyes; I owe much to their observations, they introduced me
to London s identities just enough, so you can muster your own observations and prose. The
process was like peering through a keyhole at collective humanism entirely unique to the voyeur.
For London truly is a collaboration of creativity and creed, to state the City has one identity stroke
congruence is veraciously wrong. London is that versatile, it has a plethora of characteristics, rich
in detail, purpose and belonging; why everyone has an opinion whatever the experience, London
demands respect. Author: Craig Taylortakes this analogy a step further and in the book: Londoners;
he strings together

Intersectionality And Morality
Intersectionality is a relevant theory for some gay, lesbian or bisexual individuals. Intersectionality
studies the relationships among multiple dimensions and modalities of social relationships and
subject formations (McCall, 2005). The theory argues, pursues and considers how gender, race,
sexual orientationand other categories of identity interact on many and often concurring levels of
social relationships, therefore allowing discrimination and social inequity. Intersectionality explains
how the notion of social injustice, such as racism, sexism, homophobia, and belief based bigotry
such as religion are not independent of one another; instead, they are interconnected, and thereby
reflect intersectionality in regards to social... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Every day in the United States, a young person, under the age of eighteen faces homelessness,
and most often it s because of others. In a report by The National Gay and Lesbian Task Force, it
was noted that 26% of LGBTQ youth were kicked out of their homes when they came out (Ray,
2006). The Urban Justice League reports numbers as high as 78% of LGBTQ youth that were
removed from or left their foster care placements because they were un welcoming or hostile
towards their sexual orientation and/or gender identity (Feinstein, Greenblatt, Hass, Kohn, Rana,
2001). The United States is an independent, individualistic country; we prize the freedom of
expression, but do we really? One of the most significant, if not the most important, social structures
is the family. Gay, lesbian and bisexual individuals who are aware of their sexuality, must create an
alternative self to present to family and friends, especially if there is an understanding, verbalized or
implicit, that homosexuality is not tolerated, or simply wrong. Many gay, lesbian and bisexual men
and women would rather go with the flow, assimilate, not make waves, rather than to express their
own gay identity, and risk ostracism.
When race is factored into the equation of homosexuality, it becomes more complicated. Taking a
look at Black and Latino cultures over the past ten to twenty years, there was an emergence of

Otello And Desdemona
Otello and Desdemona
Act I of Verdi s Otello starts without a prelude. It starts directly with the storm. This opera has an
aggressive starting which is represented by strong music. The opera begins outside a castle in
Cyprus, near the shore in the midst of an unleashed evening storm full with queasy violin and horn
undulations and high woodwind lightning flashes (Hepokoski, 1987). Verdi represents the storm
with trumpets, cornets, and trombones. Then, followed by Cassio, Montano, and his full train, Otello
enters the castle.
Otello asks everyone to let him alone in order to stay with Desdemona, she moves closer to him.
Her eyes are full of love, and to demonstrate her ecstasy, Verdi uses a solo, muted cello that swells
with Otello s and Desdemona s emotions. Then, Otello starts to embrace her and starts singing his
immense love: Gia nella note densa , and she calls him, Mio Superbo Guerrier . Then, singing a
beautiful lyric, she asks him to remember how speaking both intimately was the foundation of their
love: Do you remember , she says accompanied by the halo of an angelic harp arpeggio. The string
instruments remove their mutes, and a grand, measured largo unfurls, the principal movement of
the love duet (Hepokoski, 1987). Desdemona starts describing how she got in love with the tales of
his adventures. Otello also remembers and both start exchanging wonderful lyrical memories about
their relationship.
The end of this beautiful and lovely moment of Otello

Sixth Great Extinction
1)attention grabber: Here on Earth today we are living through a time known as the sixth great
extinction, at least according to certain scientists.
2)listener relevance: Many species go extinct daily, which ruins ecosystems and causes extinction to
other organisms that live in that environment. Which leads to extinction of larger organisms and
possibly could even lead to us.
3)speaker credibility: I believe that we need help preserve our planet and species that live here as
best as we can to prevent the destruction of Earth and the many organisms that live here. Without
plants and animals we would not be able to survive.
4)thesis: Species Extinction is a big issue today, though there are a few different viewpoints on how

A.sub point: As stated under the Endangered Species Act, more than 1,300 U.S. plants and
animals already have been federally listed as threatened or endangered and protected. That is a
lot of species at risk of going extinct, fortunately groups such as these are able to possible avoid
that from happening. Though some may never be able to return to the wild if the habitat they live
in is completely gone from in the outside world, they would not be able to survive. So preserving
habitats for these animals is also a key factor of keeping species from going extinct.
B.sub point: The National Wildlife Federation helps restore and protect endangered species by
restoring habitats along with defending the Endangered Species Act, lowing threats to the species,
and many other key factors of keeping a species from dying out.
Transition: Without the help of the whole world, more and more species will continue to go extinct.

Profit and Loss Statement Paper
Before beginning, it should be noted that although this project is to be for a Profit and Loss (P L)
Statement, only an Income Statement is available at the Kudler Fine Foods website (Apollo Group,
2011). However, Income Statements and P L Statements are, for all intents and purposes, the same
thing.
With that said, it cannot be determined conclusively by reading the Income Statement for Kudler
Fine Foods if the report is monthly, quarterly or yearly or if the reports are constructed on a
different fiscal schedule. The date at the top, however, reads For the Year Ended December 31,
2003 . ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Now it is important to account for any other, miscellaneous income, such sales of assets and interest
on money in savings.
For Kudler Fine Foods, this amount is $7,845 (Apollo Group, 2011) and will be added to the
income of the company to reach a final, Net Income of $676,795.00(Apollo Group, 2011).
Conclusion
Kudler Fine Foods, though fictitious, is doing very well for itself even when compared to a
large supermarket chain like Walmart. When dividing the Net Income of Kudler Fine Foods,
$676,795.00, by the company s Net Sales $10,796,200.00, we get a before tax profit margin of
6.268%. This means that Kudler Fine Foods has almost double the pre tax profit margin than
Walmart s post tax profit margin of 3.515% (Ycharts, 2012). This means that unless the yearly
taxes due for Kudler Fine Foods is about 50%, they will likely have higher profit margins than
Walmart. That is pretty good for a fictitious company...

Causes Of Concussions In Sports
Concussions in sports have always been the main injury for athletes, and sometimes those
concussions are career ending. For years concussions were known as getting your bell rung and not
much was thought about the damage that a direct head injury could have on the athlete. In the past
several years, doctors and athletic trainers have come to better understand concussions and how
easily they occur, even though they still do not know everything. A concussionis defined as a type of
traumatic brain injurycaused by a blow to the head or body, a fall, or another injury that jars or
shakes the brain inside the skull. The top sports where concussions occur are men and women s
soccer, lacrosse, men s wrestling, women s basketball, football, and men s ice hockey. Although
football is the leading cause of concussion in children and adult athletes with 76.8 percent of
athletes sustaining a concussion at some point in their career, ice hockey falls into second with 54
percent of athletes experiencing a concussion. There are many reasons why athletes who participate
in ice hockey incur concussions, especially at young ages. Several factors include deliberate head
shots, kids hitting their heads off the ice when they fall, getting punched or slashed in the head, and
the most common reason is the improper use of mouth guards and helmets. If helmets and mouth
guards are properly fitted and used, players follow league rules and regulations fully, and attend
concussion prevention classes

Within any company, managers must be reminded that the focus of a layoff is not on the actual
individual being released, but rather on the position itself. The layoff decision is made based on
the needs of the company and the position. If the individual is not fulfilling the position or if the
position is no longer necessary, the company must make the decision to let the person go. With this
perspective, managers can prevent as many negative emotions as possible and it will additionally
affect the communication between the manager and employee being laid off. When the employee
is reminded of the true purpose of the decision, they will accept the decision more easily than if he

Oct 15 | $3000 |
Oct 31 | $3000 |
Nov 15 | $3000 |
Nov 30 | $3000 |
Dec 15 | $3000 |
Included in the benefits package offered to the employee is the option for the single lump sum,
which pays the employee the full amount of their layoff benefits in one lump sum. However, it
would not include any relevant cost of living adjustments. The employee would receive it within 30
days of being laid off.
Three Ways the Layoff May Affect the Company
Even if a layoff is completed successfully and with little resistance, there are possible negative
effects in which the decision can have on the company. These include:
* Decrease trust among valuable employees
* Hidden costs, such as severance packages, may cause the layoff to be ineffective
* Workplace morale may decrease
Companies are oftentimes hasty to undergo layoffs as they feel they are eliminating their
ineffective employees and building an environment full of strong and effective employees.
However, this does not guarantee that the valuable employees will remain loyal to the company
and it is important that managers do not depend too much on these employees. Layoffs can also
decrease trust among the valuable employees as they may worry that they too could be

Similarities and Differences Between Polly and Jessie...
Polly and Jessie Wilson both have many similarities and differences in the book The Secret Lives
of Sgt. John Wilson. First, both of these characters stay dedicated to John Wilson throughout the
entire story, trusting he is always doing the right thing. Second, neither Polly nor Jessie suspect
John is doing anything wrong. Third, Polly and Jessie are both married at a young age, which
doesn t give them time to experience life before dedicating themselves to this man. Fourth, both
believe every word of Johns, without question or second thoughts. In terms of differences, Polly
displays forgiveness, while Jessie displays independence. Polly and Jessie are both very similar
people with regards to their naivety, innocence, and dedication, but quite different in terms of
forgiveness and independence. In this creative non fiction, Polly and Jessie are both depicted as
very naГЇve people. These two women believe everything that John tells them. When Jessie sister
Mary writes letters to Jessie talking about how she is dying and is extremely happy for Jessie and
John, the book even tells the reader The upright and honorable John Wilson wrote both these letters
himself (Simmie 42). This also applies to the letter from F.M Maxwell, talking about Mary and her
passing. Jessie does not bother wondering why these letters are typed instead of handwritten,
proving she believes everything. This leads to the second similarity, Polly and Jessie believe every
lie from John. This is not to say

Explain The Three Rites Of Passage
1.The three main rites of passage (Lenkeit 2012: 11) are puberty, childhood, and death. As people
go through this arc of life social positions change and we are put into certain parts in life. This
because life changes and people go through bodily and physical change throughout life. Rites of
passage allows an individual to participate but there is also a group to go with that person in
which are close to the individual. This means anything that happen to there one friend and they die
or get hurt, it effects them. For example, cultures have types of rituals (Lenkeit 2012: 11) where
there is a celebration of life and when life ends we have a ceremonyfor the death of the person who
meant something to us. It s a way of coming to peace and honoring them.
2.Supernatural belief (Lenkeit 2012: 11) is defined as the belief that transcends the observable,
natural world. So, this has to do with religion and what we get out of it. Supernatural forces
(Lenkeit 2012:11) are the unseen powers that one possesses. These forces go against nature and

Supernatural beings (Lenkeit 2012: 11) are those such as God s and Goddesses, Souls, Ghosts,
Tricksters, and witches. Ghosts for example, are supernatural beings for the most part. They
have abilities that can go beyond us. For all we know they are dwelling in the world to finish
something and were not ready to leave, at least this is what society says. There have been
multiple encounters that people have experienced. But, there are also ways to fool others as well
into thinking something is supernatural. Magic (Lenkeit 2012: 11) for example, is a technique to
manipulate supernatural forces and beings. Which leads us to another example of a supernatural
being, witches. The Salem witch trials is one of the most remembered events in time. Women
were accused for using witchcraft , or, magic. For practicing it they were killed and cast out by
people. These accusations from people were probably false and people

How To Improve Lilly s Literacy Skills
Based on Lilly s weaknesses I would focus on several skills for her to improve her literacy skills.
The first strategy I would focus on Lilly would be with phonics, she struggles with her long
vowels such as long a, long o, and long i. One way to expose Lilly to long vowels would be with
the use of sight words containing the long vowelsshe struggles with. Exposing those words for
Lilly to hear and visually see would be very beneficial for her because she would be able to see and
hear the wordat the same time. Another method for Lilly to learn her long vowels would be with
an activity called Long A Matching Puzzle , the child will be given cut cut outs in which they will
have to match the pictures to the correct long a spelling. For example, one of... Show more content

This activity is great because Lilly will have to look at the picture, identify it by its proper name
and by doing so she will pronounce it allowing her to focus on the sound of the word. By focusing
on the sound and spelling of the word she will begin to recognize the long a vowel for each picture.
The same activity would be used with long vowels i and o, for example she would get a set of
cut outs that she will need to match in the same manner as the previous activity but this time she
would be given an image of a boat, bone, coat, cold for long vowel o. The same activity would
also be used with long vowel i, with images representing a pie, light, night, knight, tie, kite, fight,
in which she would have to match with the correct long i vowel . Since Lilly had several
weaknesses such as lack of motivation/engagement, skipping words, and not achieving fluency I
would love to provide her with an interactive shared reading to improve her weaknesses. An
interactive shared reading experience is a great strategy to encourage the student to join in/share
the reading with a book while the student is guided and supported by the teacher. With an
interactive shared reading, I will be able to model

Phonological Awareness

Introduction:
This essay will discuss the role of phonological awareness and how it contributes to the
development of reading and spelling in children. Discussions will involve details regarding: 1)
What is phonological awareness? 2) Why is phonological awareness important to children s reading

A child who has a strong phonological awareness is more likely to learn how to read easily in
comparison to children who does not have the required phonological awareness needed
(www.nefec.org). In fact, when faced with an alphabetic script, the child s level of phonemic
awareness on entering school is widely held to be the strongest single predictor of the success she
or he will experience in learning to read as cited by Adams Bruck (1995). So before children learn
to read, they must understand the sounds that are paired with the letter are the same as the sounds
of speech they hear . For those of us who already know how to read and write, this realization
seems very basic, almost transparent as cited by Adams, Foorman, Lundberg Beeler (1998).
However, research tells us the spoken language is a sequence of little sounds that is not natural to
humans. A strong understanding of phonemic concepts must be solidly in place prior to formal
instruction in reading. It is critical that a child make the association that words on the page are

The Young Years of Queen Victoria Essay
The Young Years of Queen Victoria Victoria was born on a spring day, May 24th, 1819, at
Kensington Palace, in the then quiet suburb of London. Plumb as a partridge was her father s
description of the baby, and she certainly bore a marked resemblance to her sturdy and robust
Hanoverian ancestors who had ruled Great Britain for little more than a century at the time of her
birth.
By 1798 Victoria s grandfather, King George III, had reigned for nearly sixty years, but he was
now old and feeble. The symptoms of his terrible illness, porphyria, seemed to his doctors to be
those of madness, and for years the King had be confined in Windsor Castle while his eldest son,

In the summer of 1818, Edward brought his bride to England, but then, after a few months in

England. But he was determined that his child should be born in his native land, and by borrowing

Edward was not disappointed that the baby was a girl and not the long hoped for male heir: I am

Texting And Driving By Modern Society
Ed Bouchard

English III
May 12, 2014
Texting and Driving In modern Society Technology is increasingly prevalent. With 82% of 16
year olds owning a cell phone the risks of use behind the wheel are increasing monumentally.
According to research, even using a hands free device to talk does not completely reduce the risk
of getting into an accident. According to the Highway Safety Association people using a cell
phone while driving are 23 times more likely to get in an accident. Studies show that humans are
only able to multitask to a certain point and while behind the wheel the risks are just too high
(Copeland). The majority legislators understand the hazards of phone use in a car, but continuously
refuse to ban and create laws to prevent it. The statistics back up the hazards of distracted driving
yet the government refuses to prevent the danger.
However, this is not the only reason drivers are distracted. A few examples of distractioncould be
anything from changing the song on the stereo, setting up the GPS, or setting up the Bluetooth
headset to answer calls. The Majority of Car manufactures are putting high resolution big screens
with the ability to navigate the web, and an increasing amount of features. The demand for greater
technology can increase the risks of driving since they will be using the touch screens to navigate
through the system (Vance). Although most companies pride themselves with safety they ignore

The Unbreakable Bond In American Horse By Louise Erdrich
The Unbreakable Bond
When families are torn apart, the pain can be devastating and last a lifetime. When a child is
removed from a home, they can t always comprehend why they were taken away. A child may
think they did something wrong. They may not realize that it is for their own good. In this case,
Buddy wants to stay with his mother, even though their living conditions are rudimentary. Louise
Erdrich s short story, American Horse, shows how a bond between a mother and her child can be
present in less than ideal circumstances.В° This is shown when Buddy hugs Albertine like a gorilla,

Buddy s relationship with his mother seems very strong. Buddy clearly loves his mother in many
ways. Erdrich explains that when Buddy tries to hug Albertine, she told him to stop hugging her
like a gorilla (17). Often, when children hug their parents, a special connection is made that can last
a lifetime. Sometimes when Buddy hugs his mother he would envision her saying, Let s get
married (17). Young children have a special bond with their parents and it isn t uncommon for a
child to want to marry one of them. That is part of the imagination of a young child. Also, a child s
imagination can have a deeper darker side. Erdrich displays that Buddy would have times when he
wished that she [Albertine] would die (17). Buddy hates himself for thinking those thoughts

The Process Of Amending The Us Constitution
1.The process of amending the US Constitution is an intentionally difficult one. Yet those in each
branch of government have found ways in which the Constitution can be changed informally.
Describe the methods, both formal and informal, of constitutional change. Article V of the
Constitution was formed through a compromise that stated that congress or a convention of states
has amendment power. This is known as the formal process, in which two steps are utilized:
proposal and ratification. Any member of the House of Representatives or the Senate can propose
to amend the Constitution. If it is approved by two thirds of the originating house of congress,
whether is it the Senate or the House of Representatives, it is then sent to the other side for a vote.
If it again receives a two thirds vote it will be sent to the states for ratification. The convention of
states also has the ability to amend the Constitution, however this is very unlikely. To force
congress to hold a convention two thirds of the state legislatures would have to apply for such a
convention. Although many applications have been sent, never in history has a convention like this
been held. On the off chance that either happens, the proposed amendment will be required to have
a three fourths vote of the state to become part of the Constitution. Since this formal procedure is
extremely difficult to complete, the amendments delivered have an extensive impact. For example
the first 10 amendments, known as the

Essay On Hyperthermia
Many people have an understanding of what hyperthermia is and the reasons it may occur in an
individual. Hyperthermia occurs when the body s core temperature reaches between 37 38В°C
due an inability to dissipate heat. In most cases, the occurrence of hyperthermia can be credited to
a known reason. Examples include being outside in extremely hot temperatures without any
cooling mechanism or vigorous exercise in extreme heat causing the body s temperature to rise.
Hyperthermia is determined by an increase in core temperature at a rate of 1 2В°C every five
minutes (2, 11). However, in certain individuals, the use of general anesthesia can cause individuals
to suffer from an inherited disorder known as malignant hyperthermia. When malignant
hyperthermia is triggered, individuals are at risk of hypoxemia, metabolic acidosis,
rhabdomyolysis and a quick rise in the person s body temperature... Show more content on

The increase in metabolic activity occurs in response to inhalational anesthetics and depolarizing
muscle relaxers, such as succinylcholine, and causes individuals to suffer from muscle rigidity,
hyperthermia, and tissue damage (1, 2). This is an inherited disorder found in humans and swine. If
treatment is not initiated quickly, the individual may die from ventricular fibrillation or, if the
situation is extended, the patient may die from renal failure (1). For treatment, patients are given
dantrolene, a muscle relaxer that prevents the release of calcium. Once dantrolene was widely used
as a treatment for malignant hyperthermia, the mortality rate from the disorder dropped from more
than 80% to less than 7% (1, 5, 6). Overall, the rate at which malignant hyperthermia occurs is
between 1:5,000 and 1:75,000 (2). While the physical results of malignant hyperthermia are known,
the physiological and genetic reasons for the disorder are starting to be

The Rock Of Rock And Roll
Since the beginning of time there has always been music in the world. The Native Americans
had their tribal music, which was used for healing, ceremonies, and ancient rituals. Ever since
the beginning of the 20th century there has been rock and roll. Rock and roll has changed
drastically over the years. In my opinion, it is possibly one of the most important genres there is.
1950s: The Birth of Rock and Roll This was the decade that rock and roll first emerged. Even

1970s: Rock becomes big business After the Vietnam war had ended the people, and music began
to settle down. The early 70s marked the deaths of many artists, and the breakup of The Beatles.
Psychedelic music declines but bands such as Led Zepplin have created their own sound. The
perfect blend of blues and hard rock. Later on a band called The Ramones made their own pre
genre of rock...punk. This intense genre of teenage rage and rock and roll influenced many
bands in the future. In the 1970s FM radio starts to play rock music, car stereos become common
also. Early 70s are dominated by soft rock and singer, songwriters. Reggae moves away from
Jamaica to become a world wide genre. Disco dominates the radio and dance floors in the late
70s. Popular disco groups include: Abba, Bees Gees, Kool and the gang, Earth, wind, and Fire.
Those are just a few but there is many more where that comes from, In all honesty the 70s was a

Slow To Remove Stigma Frank Haynie
Haynie believes the cause of this distorted reporting is due to three main problems: money, The
Bedford Guide for College Writers, 10th edition, includes the article: As Attitudes Shift on PTSD,
Media Slow to Remove Stigma, by Mike Haynie. Haynie, a U.S. Air Force veteran, is also the
founder and executive director of the Institute for Veterans and Military Families, at Syracuse
University (546). In the article, Haynie theorizes some in the media continue to perpetuate a stigma
linking military service to mental illness and violence (547). He reiterates President Bill Clinton s
imperative that Mental illness is nothing to be ashamed of. In Haynie s view, the inevitable
financially driven media outlets are the main cause of the continued stigma casting military
veterans as criminally unstable. He views some outlets reporting as being biased toward paper

Although these colonies were all British, they had a vast amount of differences. The middle and
southern colonies have numerous similarities and differences including land and labor, religion,

Pennsylvania, founded by William Penn, is an excellent example of a proprietary colony. It was
established by William Penn as a haven for Quakers in the New World. Penn stated I shall not at

such as Dutch, Belgians, French, English, Swedes, Finns, etc. This meant that there was a

grains were prominent. These required very little labor to harvest compared to tobacco or rice.
These colonies also had a timber industry and fur trade. In addition, there was a large population
of Quaker immigrants who were opposed to slavery. Even further north, you have an economy
based on trade and fisheries. As these industries include slavery, there is a much smaller amount of
it than there was in the south. Carolina also traded guns and other valuable items with the Indians.

This is basically what every AR app development company is seeking to achieve. The number of
augmented reality apps developed for both Android devices and the iPhone has dramatically
increased in recent times. Both gamers and retailers are showing tremendous interest in augmented
reality possibilities.
Augmented Reality apps
Before now, the main objectives of any AR app development company were focused on the
development of augmented reality apps for the early tablet, smartphone, and PC. But to today, AR
uses now involve a much broader perspective.
The possible educational and commercial applications of AR apps across a range of industries are
becoming more or less unlimited. Augmented reality, as it is today, is employed by medical
personnel to prepare for surgeries. In the military, soldiers are using AR to render assistance to men
and women while they make repairs in the field.

18th Amendment Pros And Cons

Nypro has an organizational structure that facilitated aggressive internal competition. Its successes

attributed to the leadership of George Lankton who imbibes the competitive spirit and eventually
trickled this down to the project teams and location managers. Nypro s internal competition

1)High performance standards. Internal competitions competition brought to fore a very high
awareness and constant focus to performance statistics. These performance statistics are compared
within groups within the same plant and vis a vis those of other plants. Understandably, teams
would want to attain the best scores or performance ratings as possible within the organization
without compromising company values and objectives.

motivated to contribute to overall company innovation and improvement because of expectations of
incentives (stock programs, internal company recognition, etc).

Describe The Evolution Of The Two-Party System
The election in 1796 was the first to have two major political parties, the Federalists and the
Democratic Republicans. The Federalists believed themselves to be friends of order and good
government, while the Democratic Republicans believed themselves to be supporters of
independence, friends to equal rights, and warm advocates of free elective government. These
two parties began the system that we now use to elect new presidents. Lamentably, we now have
ended up with a system in which there is no compromise, only two parties fighting each other
continually, and where we end up with only two dissatisfactory choices. The two party system is
a system where there are only two options to vote for because only parties with a lot of people
have a chance to be noticed, other parties have too few people to get a chance to win the election.
Nowadays the two parties most people vote for are the Democrat party and the Republican party.
The Republicans ideology is American conservatism, which involves support of free market
capitalism, free enterprise, a strong national defense, and de regulation and restrictions on labor
unions. The Democrats ideology is mostly centrists an progressives, whose philosophy is of

That being said, around the 3.40 mark, the solo appears to become more indulgent, and more of
an acquired taste than before. Thankfully, the saxophone returns at 4.20, with the riff used in the
earlier saxophone solo, and pulls the jam back into a more melodic territory. That is followed by
a few short riffs in free time, before returning to the main riff for a third verse around 5.50. The
main riff is repeated until about 6.40, when the song slowly starts accelerating, finishing in 20
seconds of psychedelic cacophony which is simply too much for many listeners.
The second track, I Talk to the Wind , provides a mellow rest after the dense amalgamation of
noises towards the conclusion of the first track. The song starts with a flute, before a double
tracked harmony vocal begins the main section of the song. It is a slow ballad, where the complex
drum lines are a lot lower in the mix, which allows for a softer, more melodic direction. Fripp s use
of a dark and jazzy guitar timbre lets the guitar s harmonics provide a smooth accompaniment for
the vocals and wind instruments. The major 7 chords also provide a slightly jazzy feel, before
moving to an F# minor 7, to resolve to a B major. This minor 7 gives a great suspended feel (in

your daily schedule, there s one fact about it that you won t be able to escape: you need time to
make it function.
But you can t manufacture extra hours out of thin air. You must find a way to shove all the extra
work into a 24 hour day that s probably already bulging with activity. This reality causes a lot of
people to give up the hope of plying the side hustle route to greater income. They simply ... Show

Cut out distractions when you re at your side hustle, so you can maximize the time you make for it.
Social media, websites with content not related to what you re working on, or (trivial) phone
notifications should be avoided or turned off.
2. Use time spent commuting to learn about skills relevant to your side hustle
What do you do with the time you spend on the road going to and from work?
You could learn new things about your side business while on the go. Instead of moaning about
how terrible the traffic is or scrolling through Facebook posts about gossip, why not read up
articles or watch videos about new trends in your chosen personal venture? You ll be surprised how
much you learn as the knowledge you gather builds up over time.
3. Adjust routines
Of course, you ll have to reorganize your week if you re going to do extra hustling. If you ve
been cooking every evening after work, you might have to do that on weekends only. Just make the
food on Saturday and/or Sunday, and spread out consumption over the following week. This should
free up extra time during the working week that you could fit your side project into.
You might also have to wake up earlier than you re used to, in order to get some work done
before heading out for the 9 5 (this depends on what your side hustle involves). In this case, you
may take the evenings off if you can t afford to smuggle in more work after your main job. The
advice is usually that you find a work rhythm that suits you,

Asylum In Australia
The illegal and legal system under which refugees are put under is something that is usually
considered fact when in which it is something that has never been listed as one, the closest name
under which the terms illegal and legal immigrants can be put under is unlawful citizens . This term
is only classified under Australian Law but due to the reasons that they are seeking asylum, it is
their international given right to seek this protection under the listing of an asylum seeker, therefore
they cannot be penalized for pursing protection under the legal law of the Australian government.

Using Vernacular Architecture And On The Passive...
According to Natural History Museum (2015), modern humans have been around for nearly
200,000 years, and in our journey to the present, humans have learnt many ways to survive. From
hygiene to hyperplasia, people have come to know the best way possible to survive in the living
conditions they lived. To help protect themselves from sun, wind, rain, snow and even enemies, one
of the methods used is what today is called vernacular architecture.
The practice of designing and constructing a building today may seem easy with modern technology
at our finger tips, however 500 years, one can imagine the difficulties, trial and errors the inhabitants
of different geographical locations had to go through just to provide suitable shelter for themselves.
These trail and errors throughout the history have benefited many civilizations and bring forward
bundles of knowledge. For this reason, the objective of this research report is to explore vernacular
architecture and to expand on the passive engineering techniques used in times when technology
was not so readily available as we have today. Also, an analysis of the different lessons learnt from
these techniques will help determine the contribution it has made to sustainable architecture and
awareness.

Electronic Voting System in Punp
Original Question:
What is the best way to manually count ballot papers in block vote (BV) systems?
With first past the post systems, one can easily pile the ballots for each candidate, and then tally
the totals. Where there is more than one vote recorded on ballot papers, some kind of tallying
system seems unavoidable. What techniques are used in counting block vote ballots elsewhere?
Introduction
Vote counting is one of the most crucial stages in the election process. Failure to complete the count
and transmit results in a quick, transparent and accurate manner can jeopardize public confidence in
the elections and will directly affect whether candidates and political parties accept the final results.

The set of resources available should also be taken in consideration, as they will greatly influence
the count, balancing integrity, accuracy, and speed.
Most of the experts involved in this question believe that manually counting the ballots per a call
and tally approach can be a time consuming process, but on the other hand that it also helps
guaranteeing transparency, integrity and trust in the system. Basic training of the electoral
officials, for example, could be important because the effectiveness of any vote count process
depends on the counting staff. Voter education is also important, as every individual should be
aware of how the votes will be translated into seats, and how the count will proceed. And finally, the
transmission of results should be structured and transparent in order to guarantee the acceptance of
the general outcome of the election.
Block Vote Case study: 1989 elections in Jordan
The November 1989 general elections in Jordan were the first competitive ones for nearly thirty
years. The country adopted the Block Vote electoral system, where voters had as many votes as
there were seats to be filled within the district, but results turned out to be very controversial.
Although it is difficult to make political analysis (political parties were banned), the University of
Jordan has estimated that

Wealth Gap There are the rich and poor in every period in human history and everywhere in the

What is welfare? As Bent Greve point out in What is Welfare, the word welfare comes from wel
fare, it is from well in its still familiar sense and fare, primarily understood as a journey or arrival
but later also as a supply of food (Williams 1976, 281), and has historically been related to
happiness and prosperity, where as its current understanding first emerged in the 20th
century(51). Modern social welfare mainly means government redistribute the whole social
fortune in order to help the vulnerable groups by establishing revelant law. So the goal of social
welfare is obviously to help the vulnerable groups which includes the poor. As the opinion in
Goal of Social Welfare, the goal of social welfare is to fulfill the social, health, and recreational
requirements of all individuals in a society (Goal). The social welfare can narrow the rich poor gap
by redistributing the social fortune, on the contraryпјЊthe unsound social welfare will not work
and even widen the rich poor gap. A character of unsound social welfare is that it can not
redistribute social fortune effectively. For example, if the strength of a unsound welfare system is
not enough, it will not really redistribute whole social fortune. The poor still can not get enough
help from the society. Another character of a unsound social welfare system is that it can not really

Diphenylamine And Electrolyte Lab Report
Objective: The overall goal of the experiment was to use cyclic voltammetry to characterize the
components of gunshot residue. Specifically, to characterize diphenylamine and copper(II)1. Cyclic
voltammetry is a method of measuring electron transfer through the reduction and oxidation
potential of a compound in solution2. The metal copper and the organic molecule diphenylamine
can be analyzed at the same time with the addition of acetate buffer as a supporting electrolyte.
The data from the voltammeter will be received at different scanning rates in order to examine the
electrochemical behavior. The reactions will be determined to be either electrochemically
reversible, irreversible, or quasi reversible1.
Instruments:
The instrument used was a potentiostat with a glassy carbon working electrode, platinum auxiliary
electrode, and silver/silver chloride reference electrode. This instrument is being used due to its
ability to simultaneously collect data from both diphenylamine and copper with the addition of an
acetate buffer. Microsoft excel was used in order to plot the data and simple calculations1.
Experimental:
The potentiostat was set up by the instructor with acetate buffer. The sample was deaerated with

Persuasive Speech Outline On Mental Illness
Kaylee Gorbet Persuasive Speech Preparation Outline Destigmatizing Mental Illness Specific
Purpose: Persuade my audience to take steps to realize the truth behind mental illnesses instead
of listening to the stigmas. Central Idea: I am going to be talking about the stigmas associated
with mental illness and what we can do to decrease this stigma. Introduction I.There is an illness
that is different from any other illness or disease that we know of. This illness has few, if any,
outward physical symptoms. Most of the time, we cannot tell that a person has this illness just
by looking at them. The illness I am talking about is mental illness; I am able to say that I have
been affected by my father s mental illnesses. II.Today, I am going to be talking to you about the
stigmas associated with mental illness and what we can do to decrease this stigma.
III.Depression, generalized anxiety disorder, eating disorders, etc are more common than one
might realize, but they often go unnoticed because of these stigmas. First, I will define mental
illness and give you some statistics about mental illness. Second, I will define stigma and tell
you about the ways mentally ill people have been stigmatized both in the past and today and
why. Finally, I will tell you about some laws that attempt to decrease stigma in the work place and
offer suggestions as to how to further decrease stigma. Transition: In order to understand what
mental illness is, it is helpful to have an operational definition of the term. Body I.The National
Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) states that mental illnesses can affect persons of any age, race,
religion or income and defines mental illness as a medical condition that disrupts a person s
thinking, feeling, mood, ability to relate to others and daily functioning... that often result in a
diminished capacity for coping with the ordinary demands of life. a.Using this definition, we can
conclude that mental illness is non discriminatory and is a legitimate condition that affects a
person s ability to function in their day to day life. b.The statistics on mental illness are surprising.
NAMI s website gives the following statistics on reported mental illness. Bipolar disorder or manic

Long-Term Consequences Of Children In The Culture Of...
In today s society, children are immersed in the culture of competition. This can be seen in all
aspects of children lifestyles: games, sports, classroom settings, etc. Competition can be healthy in
moderation, but too often children are only taught to win. However, the long term consequences of
such a competitive culture are seldom thought of by parents. Placing too much emphasis on
winning can destroy a childs view on hard work and team play, as well as destroy self esteem and
confidence later on in life. In our society, competition is not beneficial for kids and must be
discouraged, or we risk raising a generation grown on false hope.
Hard work and team play are often aspects of a child s life that are diminished with the

People argue that in order for our children to learn to succeed in life, we must train them from an
early age. Matt Richtel s New York Times article mentions this. Many scholars agree that
competition is necessary, ingrained and essential (Richtel, 2012). To some degree, this is true.
We do need to train children to excel in all that they are capable of doing. However, if we were
to allow for competition to be a part of the everyday lives of children, we must allow for it to
occur only for self improvement. If we allow for competition, we must make it okay for them to
lose. A platform for trial and error is necessary training. Sadly, not everyone has that mindset, and
winning is the goal. We can t change everyone s mind about it, so we must work to discourage
childhood competition altogether. In Competition Can Be a Positive Experience for Kids, Mark
Cinelli analyzes the dynamics of competition, and states the type of competition that we need to
see in Competition is a big part of our children s lives, and it s here to stay for a long time . . . We
need to praise every effort by character, self esteem, a competitive spirit and a sense of fair play. I
think we d all agree that if our children displayed all of the above attributes throughout their lives,
we would be extremely proud parents. (Cinelli,

Jimmy Santiago Baca Impact On Education
Jimmy Santiago Baca is a prime example of the impact that can be extracted from a strong and
caring passion towards an education. Baca was passionate in learning how to read when he was in
prison, and he eventually achieved that goal. With his passion fueling his career, Baca would go on
to become a poet, writer, and educationactivists for diverse classrooms. Baca is fueled by
improving the conditions of those who feel like they have hit rock bottom like he once was.
Several books were written from Baca s backstory in hopes that people would learn from his
mistakes and lessons learned within his lifetime. One of the subject areas that Baca has spent a
good amount of his life promoting and discussing is the importance of education. Baca wrote a
collection of stories that showed his experiences where people attempted to keep him down, but
Baca s drive to continue to expand and learn prevented him from staying down. This collection of
stories is called Stories from the Edge, and Baca decided to add something extra with this book.
He decided to go into a classroom with diverse students and he shared his stories from the book in
greater detail. There were open discussions with the students about how his stories related to the
students lives. After the studentgroup left, Baca met with the teachers that aided with the student
interaction, and they discussed the teaching methods that fuel the students motivation to learn.

  • 2. London Is The Most Eclectic Megalopolis Of The West Unusually, I was a late subscriber to the idea of observing deeply into the capital s wonders; London is possibly the most eclectic megalopolis of the West, it stirs ambition like no other place, in some professional sectors it s like swimming against the tide if you re not registered in London. Realistically for me, it probably was six years ago, when I took note of what London urbanity offers, before then, I was probably too busy, fatigued and self orientated to allow London a laborious thought in the early noughties; I recall, it took a nudge from famous authors who resided in the capital, such as Iain Sinclair, J.G. Ballard and Hanif Kureishi, to name a few, who systematically embraced the capitalwithin their creative works. Their savoir faire wordage spurred me on to experience London with fresh eyes; I owe much to their observations, they introduced me to London s identities just enough, so you can muster your own observations and prose. The process was like peering through a keyhole at collective humanism entirely unique to the voyeur. For London truly is a collaboration of creativity and creed, to state the City has one identity stroke congruence is veraciously wrong. London is that versatile, it has a plethora of characteristics, rich in detail, purpose and belonging; why everyone has an opinion whatever the experience, London demands respect. Author: Craig Taylortakes this analogy a step further and in the book: Londoners; he strings together ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Intersectionality And Morality Intersectionality is a relevant theory for some gay, lesbian or bisexual individuals. Intersectionality studies the relationships among multiple dimensions and modalities of social relationships and subject formations (McCall, 2005). The theory argues, pursues and considers how gender, race, sexual orientationand other categories of identity interact on many and often concurring levels of social relationships, therefore allowing discrimination and social inequity. Intersectionality explains how the notion of social injustice, such as racism, sexism, homophobia, and belief based bigotry such as religion are not independent of one another; instead, they are interconnected, and thereby reflect intersectionality in regards to social... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Every day in the United States, a young person, under the age of eighteen faces homelessness, and most often it s because of others. In a report by The National Gay and Lesbian Task Force, it was noted that 26% of LGBTQ youth were kicked out of their homes when they came out (Ray, 2006). The Urban Justice League reports numbers as high as 78% of LGBTQ youth that were removed from or left their foster care placements because they were un welcoming or hostile towards their sexual orientation and/or gender identity (Feinstein, Greenblatt, Hass, Kohn, Rana, 2001). The United States is an independent, individualistic country; we prize the freedom of expression, but do we really? One of the most significant, if not the most important, social structures is the family. Gay, lesbian and bisexual individuals who are aware of their sexuality, must create an alternative self to present to family and friends, especially if there is an understanding, verbalized or implicit, that homosexuality is not tolerated, or simply wrong. Many gay, lesbian and bisexual men and women would rather go with the flow, assimilate, not make waves, rather than to express their own gay identity, and risk ostracism. When race is factored into the equation of homosexuality, it becomes more complicated. Taking a look at Black and Latino cultures over the past ten to twenty years, there was an emergence of ... • 4. Otello And Desdemona Otello and Desdemona Act I of Verdi s Otello starts without a prelude. It starts directly with the storm. This opera has an aggressive starting which is represented by strong music. The opera begins outside a castle in Cyprus, near the shore in the midst of an unleashed evening storm full with queasy violin and horn undulations and high woodwind lightning flashes (Hepokoski, 1987). Verdi represents the storm with trumpets, cornets, and trombones. Then, followed by Cassio, Montano, and his full train, Otello enters the castle. Otello asks everyone to let him alone in order to stay with Desdemona, she moves closer to him. Her eyes are full of love, and to demonstrate her ecstasy, Verdi uses a solo, muted cello that swells with Otello s and Desdemona s emotions. Then, Otello starts to embrace her and starts singing his immense love: Gia nella note densa , and she calls him, Mio Superbo Guerrier . Then, singing a beautiful lyric, she asks him to remember how speaking both intimately was the foundation of their love: Do you remember , she says accompanied by the halo of an angelic harp arpeggio. The string instruments remove their mutes, and a grand, measured largo unfurls, the principal movement of the love duet (Hepokoski, 1987). Desdemona starts describing how she got in love with the tales of his adventures. Otello also remembers and both start exchanging wonderful lyrical memories about their relationship. The end of this beautiful and lovely moment of Otello ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Sixth Great Extinction 1)attention grabber: Here on Earth today we are living through a time known as the sixth great extinction, at least according to certain scientists. 2)listener relevance: Many species go extinct daily, which ruins ecosystems and causes extinction to other organisms that live in that environment. Which leads to extinction of larger organisms and possibly could even lead to us. 3)speaker credibility: I believe that we need help preserve our planet and species that live here as best as we can to prevent the destruction of Earth and the many organisms that live here. Without plants and animals we would not be able to survive. 4)thesis: Species Extinction is a big issue today, though there are a few different viewpoints on how quickly species ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A.sub point: As stated under the Endangered Species Act, more than 1,300 U.S. plants and animals already have been federally listed as threatened or endangered and protected. That is a lot of species at risk of going extinct, fortunately groups such as these are able to possible avoid that from happening. Though some may never be able to return to the wild if the habitat they live in is completely gone from in the outside world, they would not be able to survive. So preserving habitats for these animals is also a key factor of keeping species from going extinct. B.sub point: The National Wildlife Federation helps restore and protect endangered species by restoring habitats along with defending the Endangered Species Act, lowing threats to the species, and many other key factors of keeping a species from dying out. Transition: Without the help of the whole world, more and more species will continue to go extinct. • 6. Profit and Loss Statement Paper Justin Fondriest Professor Timothy Groves BSA/310 October 21, 2012 Profit and Loss Statement Paper Before beginning, it should be noted that although this project is to be for a Profit and Loss (P L) Statement, only an Income Statement is available at the Kudler Fine Foods website (Apollo Group, 2011). However, Income Statements and P L Statements are, for all intents and purposes, the same thing. With that said, it cannot be determined conclusively by reading the Income Statement for Kudler Fine Foods if the report is monthly, quarterly or yearly or if the reports are constructed on a different fiscal schedule. The date at the top, however, reads For the Year Ended December 31, 2003 . ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Now it is important to account for any other, miscellaneous income, such sales of assets and interest on money in savings. For Kudler Fine Foods, this amount is $7,845 (Apollo Group, 2011) and will be added to the income of the company to reach a final, Net Income of $676,795.00(Apollo Group, 2011). Conclusion Kudler Fine Foods, though fictitious, is doing very well for itself even when compared to a large supermarket chain like Walmart. When dividing the Net Income of Kudler Fine Foods, $676,795.00, by the company s Net Sales $10,796,200.00, we get a before tax profit margin of 6.268%. This means that Kudler Fine Foods has almost double the pre tax profit margin than Walmart s post tax profit margin of 3.515% (Ycharts, 2012). This means that unless the yearly taxes due for Kudler Fine Foods is about 50%, they will likely have higher profit margins than Walmart. That is pretty good for a fictitious company... • 9. Causes Of Concussions In Sports Concussions in sports have always been the main injury for athletes, and sometimes those concussions are career ending. For years concussions were known as getting your bell rung and not much was thought about the damage that a direct head injury could have on the athlete. In the past several years, doctors and athletic trainers have come to better understand concussions and how easily they occur, even though they still do not know everything. A concussionis defined as a type of traumatic brain injurycaused by a blow to the head or body, a fall, or another injury that jars or shakes the brain inside the skull. The top sports where concussions occur are men and women s soccer, lacrosse, men s wrestling, women s basketball, football, and men s ice hockey. Although football is the leading cause of concussion in children and adult athletes with 76.8 percent of athletes sustaining a concussion at some point in their career, ice hockey falls into second with 54 percent of athletes experiencing a concussion. There are many reasons why athletes who participate in ice hockey incur concussions, especially at young ages. Several factors include deliberate head shots, kids hitting their heads off the ice when they fall, getting punched or slashed in the head, and the most common reason is the improper use of mouth guards and helmets. If helmets and mouth guards are properly fitted and used, players follow league rules and regulations fully, and attend concussion prevention classes ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. The Awoke Tadiwa Njagu Professor Lewis HRM530 8102015 Within any company, managers must be reminded that the focus of a layoff is not on the actual individual being released, but rather on the position itself. The layoff decision is made based on the needs of the company and the position. If the individual is not fulfilling the position or if the position is no longer necessary, the company must make the decision to let the person go. With this perspective, managers can prevent as many negative emotions as possible and it will additionally affect the communication between the manager and employee being laid off. However, it would not include any relevant cost of living adjustments. The employee would receive it within 30 days of being laid off. Three Ways the Layoff May Affect the Company Even if a layoff is completed successfully and with little resistance, there are possible negative effects in which the decision can have on the company. These include: * Decrease trust among valuable employees * Hidden costs, such as severance packages, may cause the layoff to be ineffective * Workplace morale may decrease Companies are oftentimes hasty to undergo layoffs as they feel they are eliminating their ineffective employees and building an environment full of strong and effective employees. However, this does not guarantee that the valuable employees will remain loyal to the company and it is important that managers do not depend too much on these employees. • 11. Similarities and Differences Between Polly and Jessie... Polly and Jessie Wilson both have many similarities and differences in the book The Secret Lives of Sgt. John Wilson. First, both of these characters stay dedicated to John Wilson throughout the entire story, trusting he is always doing the right thing. Second, neither Polly nor Jessie suspect John is doing anything wrong. Third, Polly and Jessie are both married at a young age, which doesn t give them time to experience life before dedicating themselves to this man. Fourth, both believe every word of Johns, without question or second thoughts. In terms of differences, Polly displays forgiveness, while Jessie displays independence. Polly and Jessie are both very similar people with regards to their naivety, innocence, and dedication, but quite different in terms of forgiveness and independence. In this creative non fiction, Polly and Jessie are both depicted as very naГЇve people. These two women believe everything that John tells them. When Jessie sister Mary writes letters to Jessie talking about how she is dying and is extremely happy for Jessie and John, the book even tells the reader The upright and honorable John Wilson wrote both these letters himself (Simmie 42). This also applies to the letter from F.M Maxwell, talking about Mary and her passing. Jessie does not bother wondering why these letters are typed instead of handwritten, proving she believes everything. • 12. Explain The Three Rites Of Passage 1.The three main rites of passage (Lenkeit 2012: 11) are puberty, childhood, and death. As people go through this arc of life social positions change and we are put into certain parts in life. This because life changes and people go through bodily and physical change throughout life. Rites of passage allows an individual to participate but there is also a group to go with that person in which are close to the individual. This means anything that happen to there one friend and they die or get hurt, it effects them. For example, cultures have types of rituals (Lenkeit 2012: 11) where there is a celebration of life and when life ends we have a ceremonyfor the death of the person who meant something to us. It s a way of coming to peace and honoring them. 2.Supernatural belief (Lenkeit 2012: 11) is defined as the belief that transcends the observable, natural world. So, this has to do with religion and what we get out of it. Supernatural forces (Lenkeit 2012:11) are the unseen powers that one possesses. These forces go against nature and beyond ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Supernatural beings (Lenkeit 2012: 11) are those such as God s and Goddesses, Souls, Ghosts, Tricksters, and witches. For all we know they are dwelling in the world to finish something and were not ready to leave, at least this is what society says. There have been multiple encounters that people have experienced. But, there are also ways to fool others as well into thinking something is supernatural. Magic (Lenkeit 2012: 11) for example, is a technique to manipulate supernatural forces and beings. Which leads us to another example of a supernatural being, witches. The Salem witch trials is one of the most remembered events in time. Women were accused for using witchcraft , or, magic. • 13. How To Improve Lilly s Literacy Skills Based on Lilly s weaknesses I would focus on several skills for her to improve her literacy skills. The first strategy I would focus on Lilly would be with phonics, she struggles with her long vowels such as long a, long o, and long i. One way to expose Lilly to long vowels would be with the use of sight words containing the long vowelsshe struggles with. Exposing those words for Lilly to hear and visually see would be very beneficial for her because she would be able to see and hear the wordat the same time. Another method for Lilly to learn her long vowels would be with an activity called Long A Matching Puzzle , the child will be given cut cut outs in which they will have to match the pictures to the correct long a spelling. The same activity would be used with long vowels i and o, for example she would get a set of cut outs that she will need to match in the same manner as the previous activity but this time she would be given an image of a boat, bone, coat, cold for long vowel o. The same activity would also be used with long vowel i, with images representing a pie, light, night, knight, tie, kite, fight, in which she would have to match with the correct long i vowel . Since Lilly had several weaknesses such as lack of motivation/engagement, skipping words, and not achieving fluency I would love to provide her with an interactive shared reading to improve her weaknesses. A child who has a strong phonological awareness is more likely to learn how to read easily in comparison to children who does not have the required phonological awareness needed (www.nefec.org). In fact, when faced with an alphabetic script, the child s level of phonemic awareness on entering school is widely held to be the strongest single predictor of the success she or he will experience in learning to read as cited by Adams Bruck (1995). So before children learn to read, they must understand the sounds that are paired with the letter are the same as the sounds of speech they hear . For those of us who already know how to read and write, this realization seems very basic, almost transparent as cited by Adams, Foorman, Lundberg Beeler (1998). However, research tells us the spoken language is a sequence of little sounds that is not natural to humans. A strong understanding of phonemic concepts must be solidly in place prior to formal instruction in reading. But he was determined that his child should be born in his native land, and by borrowing from his long suffering friends, he managed to bring his wife back to England in time for the baby s birth. With 82% of 16 year olds owning a cell phone the risks of use behind the wheel are increasing monumentally. According to research, even using a hands free device to talk does not completely reduce the risk of getting into an accident. According to the Highway Safety Association people using a cell phone while driving are 23 times more likely to get in an accident. Studies show that humans are only able to multitask to a certain point and while behind the wheel the risks are just too high (Copeland). The majority legislators understand the hazards of phone use in a car, but continuously refuse to ban and create laws to prevent it. The statistics back up the hazards of distracted driving yet the government refuses to prevent the danger. However, this is not the only reason drivers are distracted. A few examples of distractioncould be anything from changing the song on the stereo, setting up the GPS, or setting up the Bluetooth headset to answer calls. The Majority of Car manufactures are putting high resolution big screens with the ability to navigate the web, and an increasing amount of features. The demand for greater technology can increase the risks of driving since they will be using the touch screens to navigate through the system (Vance). When a child is removed from a home, they can t always comprehend why they were taken away. A child may think they did something wrong. They may not realize that it is for their own good. In this case, Buddy wants to stay with his mother, even though their living conditions are rudimentary. Louise Erdrich s short story, American Horse, shows how a bond between a mother and her child can be present in less than ideal circumstances.В° This is shown when Buddy hugs Albertine like a gorilla, when he feels the satin roses, and the emergency chocolate bar.* Buddy s relationship with his mother seems very strong. Buddy clearly loves his mother in many ways. Erdrich explains that when Buddy tries to hug Albertine, she told him to stop hugging her like a gorilla (17). Often, when children hug their parents, a special connection is made that can last a lifetime. Sometimes when Buddy hugs his mother he would envision her saying, Let s get married (17). Young children have a special bond with their parents and it isn t uncommon for a child to want to marry one of them. That is part of the imagination of a young child. Also, a child s imagination can have a deeper darker side. Erdrich displays that Buddy would have times when he wished that she [Albertine] would die (17). • 21. The Process Of Amending The Us Constitution 1.The process of amending the US Constitution is an intentionally difficult one. Yet those in each branch of government have found ways in which the Constitution can be changed informally. Describe the methods, both formal and informal, of constitutional change. Article V of the Constitution was formed through a compromise that stated that congress or a convention of states has amendment power. This is known as the formal process, in which two steps are utilized: proposal and ratification. Any member of the House of Representatives or the Senate can propose to amend the Constitution. If it is approved by two thirds of the originating house of congress, whether is it the Senate or the House of Representatives, it is then sent to the other side for a vote. If it again receives a two thirds vote it will be sent to the states for ratification. The convention of states also has the ability to amend the Constitution, however this is very unlikely. To force congress to hold a convention two thirds of the state legislatures would have to apply for such a convention. Although many applications have been sent, never in history has a convention like this been held. On the off chance that either happens, the proposed amendment will be required to have a three fourths vote of the state to become part of the Constitution. Since this formal procedure is extremely difficult to complete, the amendments delivered have an extensive impact. For example the first 10 amendments, known as the ... • 23. Essay On Hyperthermia Many people have an understanding of what hyperthermia is and the reasons it may occur in an individual. Hyperthermia occurs when the body s core temperature reaches between 37 38В°C due an inability to dissipate heat. In most cases, the occurrence of hyperthermia can be credited to a known reason. Examples include being outside in extremely hot temperatures without any cooling mechanism or vigorous exercise in extreme heat causing the body s temperature to rise. Hyperthermia is determined by an increase in core temperature at a rate of 1 2В°C every five minutes (2, 11). However, in certain individuals, the use of general anesthesia can cause individuals to suffer from an inherited disorder known as malignant hyperthermia. • 41. Using Vernacular Architecture And On The Passive... According to Natural History Museum (2015), modern humans have been around for nearly 200,000 years, and in our journey to the present, humans have learnt many ways to survive. From hygiene to hyperplasia, people have come to know the best way possible to survive in the living conditions they lived. To help protect themselves from sun, wind, rain, snow and even enemies, one of the methods used is what today is called vernacular architecture. The practice of designing and constructing a building today may seem easy with modern technology at our finger tips, however 500 years, one can imagine the difficulties, trial and errors the inhabitants of different geographical locations had to go through just to provide suitable shelter for themselves. These trail and errors throughout the history have benefited many civilizations and bring forward bundles of knowledge. For this reason, the objective of this research report is to explore vernacular architecture and to expand on the passive engineering techniques used in times when technology was not so readily available as we have today. Also, an analysis of the different lessons learnt from these techniques will help determine the contribution it has made to sustainable architecture and awareness. Vernacular Architecture What is it? Most of the experts involved in this question believe that manually counting the ballots per a call and tally approach can be a time consuming process, but on the other hand that it also helps guaranteeing transparency, integrity and trust in the system. Basic training of the electoral officials, for example, could be important because the effectiveness of any vote count process depends on the counting staff. Voter education is also important, as every individual should be aware of how the votes will be translated into seats, and how the count will proceed. And finally, the transmission of results should be structured and transparent in order to guarantee the acceptance of the general outcome of the election. Central Idea: I am going to be talking about the stigmas associated with mental illness and what we can do to decrease this stigma. Introduction I.There is an illness that is different from any other illness or disease that we know of. This illness has few, if any, outward physical symptoms. Most of the time, we cannot tell that a person has this illness just by looking at them. The illness I am talking about is mental illness; I am able to say that I have been affected by my father s mental illnesses. II.Today, I am going to be talking to you about the stigmas associated with mental illness and what we can do to decrease this stigma. III.Depression, generalized anxiety disorder, eating disorders, etc are more common than one might realize, but they often go unnoticed because of these stigmas. First, I will define mental illness and give you some statistics about mental illness. Second, I will define stigma and tell you about the ways mentally ill people have been stigmatized both in the past and today and why. Finally, I will tell you about some laws that attempt to decrease stigma in the work place and offer suggestions as to how to further decrease stigma. Transition: In order to understand what mental illness is, it is helpful to have an operational definition of the term. This can be seen in all aspects of children lifestyles: games, sports, classroom settings, etc. Competition can be healthy in moderation, but too often children are only taught to win. However, the long term consequences of such a competitive culture are seldom thought of by parents. Placing too much emphasis on winning can destroy a childs view on hard work and team play, as well as destroy self esteem and confidence later on in life. People argue that in order for our children to learn to succeed in life, we must train them from an early age. Matt Richtel s New York Times article mentions this. Many scholars agree that competition is necessary, ingrained and essential (Richtel, 2012). To some degree, this is true. We do need to train children to excel in all that they are capable of doing. However, if we were to allow for competition to be a part of the everyday lives of children, we must allow for it to occur only for self improvement. If we allow for competition, we must make it okay for them to lose. A platform for trial and error is necessary training. Sadly, not everyone has that mindset, and winning is the goal. We can t change everyone s mind about it, so we must work to discourage childhood competition altogether. In Competition Can Be a Positive Experience for Kids, Mark Cinelli analyzes the dynamics of competition, and states the type of competition that we need to see in Competition is a big part of our children s lives, and it s here to stay for a long time . . .
