Audio and visual Experiments.
Oliver Ingham
Example script.
• For the script, I have decided to use a iconic
speech from a film as something to edit and
experiment with. I have used the “some birds
aren’t meant to be caged” speech form the film,
The Shawshank Redemption.
• “I have to remind myself that some birds aren’t
meant to be caged. Their feathers are just too
bright. And when they fly away, the part of you
that knows it was a sin to lock them does rejoice.”
Audio experiment.
For my audio experiment I used the sample script as stated before and played a crowd noise
that fades in when I reach the end of the speech. The fade was used as I think it will help with
the flow of the piece and make it sound like the crowd/ audio come out of nowhere and take
the audience back or shock them but instead it slowly comes in as I stop talking to familiarise
itself with the audience. As to not overpower what I am saying or to take the focus away from
what I am saying, I reduced the DB of the background audio and increased my audio to the max
as I was quiet in the recording, this will be fixed when it comes to recording the real script as I
will sort out the input settings to make sure I am not too quiet. I have also done this with the
music as I think I will use this small technique more predominantly with the music element of
my video as at that point it won’t take away from what I am saying but also will make sure the
video is also audibly pleasing to the audience by having some soothing music underneath what I
am saying. Screenshots of what the editing looks like is provided. Both of these experiments are
below:

Visual experiment. For my visual experiment, I used a brief clip that I will use in my final product, this is the Stephan
Bonnar Vs. Forrest Griffin fight and I used the ending of the fight in this segment, I also used the
audio from the fight towards the end of my audio segment as again, a way to ease the audience
into the transition between my script reading and the clip at hand. I also would have faded the
visual side of the clip but I did not use any visual elements for my segment. I have also made a
transition slide as a way to break up my video documentary to help give the project a more laid
back feeling, although, the meaning of the project is a serious one. I have done this by using
after effects and it has come out well, this is how I will transition between sections of my script
and go into different historical events throughout. Screenshots of what the editing looks like is
provided. Both of these experiments are below:
