There are various pieces of equipment hat ae required to make a radio advert usually the software
and equipment comes included in the cost of the making of the advert.
Independent production companies would require the correct equipment such as:
Mixing Desk - Used for mixing music into the advert and changing the pitch
Soundproof Recording Booth - Used for recording high quality voices without any unwanted sounds.
Audio editing software – This is vital so that you can make clearer sounds you can also change voice
pitches and add extra sounds for this you could use reaper / audacity / adobe audition
Microphone – for clearer speech
Recording studio
It costs on average £900 pounds an hour to rent a soundproof recording studio on its own, however
most advert packages come with everything involved if you were to make an advert you will need a
soundproof studio as it blocks sounds coming in and going out, making the room acoustically
isolated so only people in the either listening through speakers or the people in the room can hear
what’s going on
At College, We have our own Radio Station which is named E6 Radio. We have our own music
libraries in which can be used on the station as its royalty and copyright free. By having this library of
music, it saved a lot of problems which could occur such as copyright and legal issues. Music can also
be created here to avoid any copyright problems.
Mixing desk
A mixing console is an electronic device for combining, routing, and changing the levels and
dynamics audio signals. A mixer can mix both digital and analogue signals, depending on the type of
mixer they are also used to mix in jingles and other sound beds. We have one of these in our college
E6 radio studio it’s so that we can mix songs together and also change acoustic pitches and sounds
and combine them together.
Audacity, adobe audition, reaper
Adobe audition is a professional Program with many different features. This program is widely used
professionally in the industry and will be chosen over other programs like Reaper and Audacity
simply because it works at a faster rate and also it has more and better features. Because it has wide
variety of features and effects, however a professional Program such as adobe is not necessary when
it comes to our college work on E6 radio which is why we use Reaper to edit. Reaper is similar to Pro
Tools in different ways for example they both have multitrack editing sound effects. Reaper has
many features that are suited to the work we do in college and gives us the desired result.
