Overview Of Methodologies. Effectuation . Effectual Reasoning
Overview of Methodologies
Effectuation
Effectual reasoning was researched and developed by Sara Sarasvathy, Associate Professor in the
Darden Graduate School of Business Administration at the University of Virginia. As stated by
Sarasvathy, effectual is the inverse causal (Sarasvathy, n.d.). Throughout history, business students
have been taught causal reasoning (Sarasvathy, n.d.). Causal reasoning consists of finding the best
means (cheapest, quickest, most efficient, etc.) to reach a predetermined goal (Sarasvathy, n.d.).
However, effectuation takes the opposite approach. Effectual thinking consists of collecting current
means and determining potential outcomes utilizing these means. (Sarasvathy, n.d.). One approach is
not better ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Avoid doing a competitive analysis (Sarasvathy, n.d.). Additionally, target key companies instead of
conducting broad market research. Developing pre commitments reduces uncertainty in the future
(Sarasvathy, n.d.).
3. Leveraging Contingencies Turning the unexpected into something beneficial (Sarasvathy, n.d.). Not
all surprises are always bad. Surprises can be used to help develop and grow a new venture. Rather
than trying to predict the future, focus on activities within your control ( What is effectuation? 2011).
The logic behind effectual thinking is... to the extent that we can control the future, we do not need to
predict it (Sarasvathy, n.d.).
Lean Startup
Lean startup is a scientific approach to developing a new product or business. Eric Ries created the
term, lean startup (Santoro, 2014). Ries was motivated to develop a startup approach that embraced
failure, since most new businesses and startups usually fail (Santoro, 2014). Additionally, lean startups
focus on using resources efficiently and eliminating waste (Santoro, 2014).
Principles of Lean Startup
1. Entrepreneurs are Everywhere Anyone can be an entrepreneur, whether you are working out of a
garage or an international corporation. Entrepreneurship is not a product; it is a mindset that can be
learned.
2. Entrepreneurship is Management Entrepreneurship is not creating a product, it is creating an

Analysis Of The Poem Ode Of Spring By John Keats Essay
In the poem Ode to Autumn by John Keats, my initial thoughts of this work is how the author does a
beautiful job describing the season. The way that he makes his words come to life. The poem makes
you feel as if you are right there in the midst of autumn. As I read through the poem, it was as if I
could inhale the autumn air. I think the thing that I loved most about this piece is the mere fact that it
is my most favorite season of the year. When the poem talks about the songs of spring, it tells you to
think not of them. In other words, this is the season of autumn and it too has its own songs to sing. We
shouldn t rush through this amazing season, but yet slow down and enjoy each moment that it brings
us. The Romantic relationship of nature and soul communicated in one of two ways. The landscape
was, on one hand viewed as an expansion of the human identity, equipped for sensitivity for man s
enthusiastic state. On other hand, nature was viewed as a vehicle for soul just as man; the breath of
God fills both man and the earth (Hanson, 2015). Keats stood out in the early nineteenth century
Romanticism, a development that embraced the sacredness of emotion and creative energy and
privileged the magnificence of the natural world (John Keats, n.d.).
In the attempt of bringing old ways to gain new knowledge John Keats wrote the Romanticism style
poem, Ode to Autumn . With the many literary devices available to the Romantics, poetry was the
most favored (Keats,

Analysis Of The Movie The Searchers
From the movie, The Searchers, it portrays a more idealized version of the whole great romanticized
American West than a challenged version. Throughout the movie, Uncle Ethan is depicted as some
determined cowboy who is willing to do and give anything to get his family back and prove his
loyalty to them. He even goes to great lengths to hunt and kill the Indians just to get back what is his.
He challenges the romanticized American West a little when it comes to making some decisions you
wouldn t see most cowboys doing as he brutally murders the Indians and undeniably shows his racism
and hatred towards them. The movie mainly romanticizes and challenges the myth of the cowboy a
little to show the more unrealistic version of how a cowboy is ... Show more content on

After all, cowboys are meant to represent the great country of America and be our hero and role model
to others. The whole idea of violence is described quite differently in both works. In the movie, The
Searchers, Uncle Ethan shows a rather special level of violence in which everything he does is rather
bloodless and nonviolent, for the most part. When it comes down to the Indians, he lets his rage get to
him, especially with that one scene where he literally shot out the eyes of an already dead Indian.
Uncle Ethan commits violence in a less bloody way than John Grady does. Comparing this with John
Grady s encounter with the cuchillero, McCarthy sketches us of a more bloodier altercation. He ran
his tongue into the corner of his mouth and tasted blood. He knew his face had been cut but he didn t
know how bad (200). From what McCarthy is trying to say here, it seems as if he is romanticizing the
whole myth of the cowboy a little. John Grady tastes blood as if he had tasted it before. He ignores the
fact that his face is cut, not knowing how bad it was. McCarthy presents John Grady as if he is some
sort of brave cowboy who fears no blood. From the red boutonniere blossoming on the left pocket of
his blue work shirt, there spurted a thin fan of bright arterial blood. He dropped to his knees and
pitched forward dead into the arms of his enemy (201). It starts to get more and more gory as
McCarthy is describing the Cuchilleros death

Motor Vehicle Safety Essay
Problem Statement:
Motor vehicle accidents are one of the leading causes of death in the United States, and are the leading
cause of death in children aged 13 and under [1]. In 2015, 220 per one million children under the age
of 4 were involved in fatal motor vehicle accidents [1]. In addition to motor vehicle accidents,
improper uses of Child Restraint Systems (CRS) in cars are known to cause an increased risk of
injury. Targeting the specific aspect of children being incorrectly fastened to their car seats could
possibly prevent injuries and/or deaths due to motor vehicle accidents. These deaths are a topic of
concern due to that fact that children need more protection in vehicles than adults do. According to
PennDOT, children under age four must be securely fastened in a federally approved child passenger
restraint system (CRS) [2]. However, there are multiple studies and statistics that show that many
families do not know how to correctly use a child car seat. A Canadian study, which observed more
than 13,000 children, noted that approximately only 90% were using car seats. Of these, only 60%
were using the correct type of car seat, with only 20% of those aged four to eight years old using
booster seats [3]. A Manitoba study found that approximately 70% 80% of families are using their ...

Often, the improper use of the car seat is a result of parental error when strapping the child in, which
results in errors such as the straps being too slack or too tight, and the buckle of the harness not being

children into their child restraint

Embm History
In order to understand Evidence Based Medicine, or EBM, a brief history of its origins will be
beneficial. According to Claridge and Fabian (2005), one of the earliest examples of EBM is found in
the biblical book of Daniel. Regardless of religious affiliation, this story or anecdote provides an
excellent example of a controlled study, which is one of the foundations of EBM. In this story, Daniel
and his three friends Azariah, Mishael, and Hananiah, refuse to eat the food provided to them by their
king. Since starvation was not an option, they proposed to their steward (who was set over them) to
test them for ten days by only giving them vegetables and water for their consumption. Then they,
Daniel and his three friends, would be compared to the other young men who had consumed the food
provided to them by the king. Daniel and his friends agreed that they would then submit to the
direction and wisdom of the steward, after he was able to evaluate both groups. The end result of the
experiment was that Daniel and his friends were noticeably healthier than their counterparts who had
eaten of the king s food (Claridge, Fabian, 2005, p. 548). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An excellent example of this is the now obsolete practice of bloodletting. It is believed that ancient
humans did not understand the true nature of disease as modern scientists and medical practitioners do
today. Indeed, many seemed to only understand disease as a form of demonic possession of the victim.
Therefore, the logic employed in treatment consisted of trying to let the demon out of the body by
creating lacerations, or bloodletting, by which the demon could evacuate from the body (Claridge,
Fabian, 2005, p.

Racism In California
I agree with the article California Becomes First State to Ban Redskins Nickname by Time.com. That
even though they banned the use of the term redskins as a team name and the term itself is not being
used for its literal meaning or as an insult it is still an inappropriate word. I find California s band
appropriate and a good step forward to eliminating insulting terms involving race or medical
condition. They are also setting a good example for other states and the young people of California.
The American native corporations are also happy for the support they need.
Right now most of America is focused on racism towards African Americans and hardly ever focused

Most People Do Not Think About The Holy Spirit Or Even
Most people do not think about the Holy Spirit or even recognize Him as a person of the trinity, to
only refer to Him as it when speaking of Him. But He is the one that helps us, comforts us, and give us
the word we need when sharing the Gospel. Jesus tells his disciples that he must go away, so that he
can send the Helper (John 16:7), who will work in the lives of the believers, by guiding them,
ministering to them and do good work in their lives. In the life of a Pastor, the Holy Spirit is an
important ingredient if not the main ingredient of the sermon. The role of the pastor is sometimes hard
to define because they do more than preach on Sunday mornings. They need to minister to the
congregation in all fashions. Like, marital ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In addition, a preacher ought to know that he really possesses the Spirit of God, and that when he
speaks there is an influence upon him that enables him to speak as God would have him, otherwise out
of the pulpit he should go directly; he has no right to be there, he has not been called to preach God s
truth
Spurgeon gives a humbling statement to those who preach or are thinking about becoming preachers.
The speaker needs to be humble, so God to work through him. Because it is not our words that save
lives, or our charismatic style of preaching that causes someone to be saved, but the work of Christ on
the cross through the Holy Spirit in our lives. I think of this whenever there is a famous secular artist
who is not a true believer that performs a gospel song. It is sung beautifully, with perfect control of the
voice and the timber is perfect; the arrangement is supped up to make it different more appealing to a
secular audience, but it is missing something. It lacks that heart felt soul and love of Christ in the
voice that those who show up on Sunday morning witness from the people of God singing with joy.
Paul speaks of this humbling, Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the
power of Christ may rest upon me. 10For the sake of Christ, then, I am content with weaknesses,
insults, hardships, persecutions, and calamities. For when I am weak, then I am strong (2

guilt for his ancestor s actions in the witch trials and their intolerant prosecution of Quakers, same fact

s mental and moral beliefs were revealed in Young Goodman Brown story, showing that damnation in
not inherited but chosen and is redeemable though human agency. Analyzing the historical
background of Nathaniel Hawthorne and his relation with Puritanism and its impact in his work, the
pivotal point of Young Goodman Brown is to demonstrate that society can be described as a
brotherhood of both good and evil and the damnation of each person is decided by its own actions.

America s High Prison Population
America s High Prison Population Since the 1970s, America s prison population rate has risen 700%.
Despite the U.S. comprising only 5% of the world s population, it is the largest jailer with 25% of the
world s prison population with one in 99 adults in prison and one in 31 under some type of
correctional control (Mass Incarceration Problems, 2014, p. 1). According to 2013 data, 2.2 million
are currently incarcerated in U.S. prisons or jails (Incarceration, 2013, para. 1), a figure that indicates
a rising problem with prison overcrowding. While prison overcrowding increases the economic
burdens on local and state governments, common factors leading to the high prison population is
linked to the need for improved juvenile programs that deter criminal behavior and fund for
rehabilitation for reentry into mainstream society. With effective programs to deter juvenile crime and
to aid in offender reentry coupled with sentencing reforms, overcrowding in the nation s prisons
would decline.
Among nearly 100,000 youth under age 18 released from U.S. prisons each year, the majority are not
provided with the critical assistance necessary for successful transition back to their communities,
schools, homes, and peer groups (Youth Reentry, 2012, p. 1). Instead, these youths return to
neighborhoods that tend to lack the support programs necessary to ensure a positive transition back
into mainstream society. Disturbingly, these youths frequently return to neighborhoods with high

Pros And Cons Of The Moon Landing
Asid from Aliens and Ufos being kept at Area 51, another popular conspiracy theory is the 1969 moon
landing was staged at Area 51. A scenario by a conspiracy writer states that NASA knew that at the
time it would be impossible to send astronauts to the moon because of the risk of lethal radiation. The
moon landing had to be faked to avoid embarrassment and ensure future funding for NASA. On the
day of the rocket launch, they staged an actual rocket launch but no one was inside. The Apollo crew
was transferred to Area 51 where there was a movie stage set up to record the fake landing. Neil
Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin then acted out the lunar landing and NASA transmitted out to the millions
of viewers. Technology was available at the time to create a movie set that looked like the moon and
film quality believable footage. One woman claimed to see a Coca Cola bottle roll across the bottom of
her screen while watching the live broadcast of the moon landing proving that it was filmed at Area
51. Other than pure embarrassment being avoided the landing had to be staged in order to meet
Kennedy s 1961 goal of landing a man on the moon before 1970.Coincidentally they walked on the
moon in 1969 one year before the deadline Kennedy had set. The moon landing would also be a great
distraction from the unpopular vietnam war and keep the American public`s focus on something more
positive. Another reason for the faked moon landing was to beat the Soviet`s in the space race. The

Criteria-Based Regulation Summary
Journal Four The next article focused on a criteria based reminder to help decrease the duration of
catheterization and increase proper catheter care, causing a decrease in CAUTIs (Chen et al., 2013).
The criteria based reminder was used to remind the nurse to check if the catheter could be removed
and also reminds them the catheter needed to be properly cleaned. The research method was a
randomized control trial (Chen et al., 2013). The sample of this study was from two respiratory ICUs
in a medical center in Taiwan. The study involved 231 patients who had catheters inserted in the ICUs
and 130 patients who had catheters inserted on other units (Chen et al., 2013). Data was collected by
having urine specimens taken from urinary catheter patients on the unit, they then tested for urinary
tract infections (Chen et al., 2013). Two groups of catheter patients were tested, one with the criteria
based reminder implemented and one without (Chen et al., 2013). The study showed that the criteria
based reminder group had a 21.8% incidence of UTIs, and the group without the reminder had a

The success of these contracts is determined by the prices of other assets such as stocks or bonds.
Options and futures comprise the riskiest of the financial assets but also offer the greatest possible
reward. A portfolio constitutes a collection of investment assets. Investments are divided into broad
asset classes. The most important decision one must make when building a portfolio is asset
allocation. The percentage of each asset class one wants to hold is more important than the individual
securities within each class. One must first decide the percentage of each class to hold. Individual risk
tolerance will play a large role in this decision. Many individuals equate risk with the likelihood of
losing money, the higher the risk the greater the chance of losing money. Investment professionals use
a broader definition of risk. They look at risk as the volatility of an asset, or how much the return
stream goes up and down over a certain time period. Commodities are more volatile than Stocks.
Stocks are more volatile than Bonds. Therefore, Commodities have more risk than Stocks, and Stocks
have more risk than Bonds. An individual s personal risk tolerance will play a major role when

Divorce in our society has become increasingly common. Fifty percent of all marriages will end in
divorce and each year 2 million children are newly introduced to their parents separation, (Monthly

Demographers predict that by the beginning of the next decade the majority of the youngsters under
18 will spend part of their childhood in single parent families, many created by divorce. During this

The role of the child becomes one of warding off the serious depression that threatens the parents and
holding the parent together. Wallerstein calls these children the overburden child . They accounted for
15 percent of the children in her study. Many become angry at being trapped by the parent s demands,
at being robbed at their separate identity and denied their childhood. They are saddened, sometimes
beyond repair, at seeing so few of their own needs gratified, (p. 41). Judith Wallerstein also found that
divorce has long lasting psychological effect on many children, one that in fact, may turn out to be
permanent. Children of divorce have vivid memories about their parens separation. The details are
etched permanently in their minds, more than any other experiences in their lives. She also identified
the sleeper effect as another long term implication of divorce. It is a delayed reaction to an event that
happened many years earlier, (p.60). She saw many young women with acute, delayed depression
which she defines as the sleeper effect and warns of it s danger. It occurs when many young women
are about to make decisions that have long term implications for their lives. Due to the different
studies that have been followed out and the research that I have done, I expect to find many changes in
children both short and long term due to the divorce of their parents. I expect that these long

(Page 1, para. 1). Einstein knew how powerful uranium was and how a very large amount of it could
set up a nuclear chain reaction. He knew that if in case this did happen he wanted the president to be
well prepared for the outcome. Einstein argued that weapons of mass destruction required a lot of
attention and if they are going to be initiated then the following steps should be followed: a person
who is confident and trustworthy should keep the government updated with further development and
put forward recommendations for government action, particularly the secure supply of uranium (Page
2, para. 6). Secondly, this person should also speed up work by making sure funds are provided and
also that they have the necessary equipment needed for completion (page 2, para. 7)

My Favorite Place
It feels like a location of my very own , not many people would not call it their favorite place but it
has been mine all through high school and still till this day. The location became my best friend we
saw each other everyday, and it always knew what was going on in my life. It was far from perfect but
I never cared because it was something I always had and it never changed. It is still my favorite place
because it holds memories of friends and milestones as well as problems and secrets. I almost spent
more time there than I did at home or any where else for that matter. I never felt so welcomed
anywhere like there was no one to judge me or anyone I was with. Where I came from there is not
much to do or many places to even go,but this place was near and no one could tell me not to spend all
of my time there. The feeling of freedom and of the closes thing I had to adventure at the time was one
of the best feelings I could ever had. Since this is where I spent most of my time I made mistakes and
great choices there. This place is where I learned who I value, what I value ,what my morals are and
overall who I wanted to be. My favorite place is my favorite place because it was always there for me,
it was accessible, and it taught me life lessons. My favorite place makes me feel relaxed, calm, and
most importantly free. I felt a warm welcome everytime I went as if it had open arms waiting for me.

Residential Building Sector
The residential building sector is one of the major energy consumers in North America. It accounts for
17% of energy used in Canada, resulting in 70 megatons (Mt) of annual greenhouse gas (GHG)
emissions (Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC) 2008). According to Natural
Resources Canada (NRCan 2010a), 65% of residential energy consumption is attributed to space
heating by means of the primary fuel types, natural gas and electricity (Statistics Canada 2007).
Due to the importance of reducing energy consumption from limited energy sources and minimizing
environmental impacts, a number of energy efficiency measures have emerged for Canadian
residential buildings in recent years. Provincial and national building energy codes have been ... Show

In this regard, Hamelin and Zmeureanu (2014) conducted a lifecycle cost analysis (LCCA) in a single
family home in Québec; they presented the optimum thermal resistance value of building envelope
that achieved the minimum lifecycle cost. The insulation level of recommended design in their study
was much higher than code requirements. This is due to the fact that the lifespan of an actual house is
quite long, which provides a substantial energy savings from better insulation and would have offset
the additional initial cost in this case.
Given that cost is an important consideration in construction, this thesis aims to identify energy
efficient code compliant solutions for cold climates from a cost efficiency point of view.
1.1 Energy Consumption in Canadian Residential Sector
According to NRCan (2010c), there are four types of dwellings in Canada: single detached home
(56%), apartment (31%), single attached home (11%), and mobile home (2%). Figure 1 1 illustrates
that residential buildings are the third largest energy users in Canada after the industrial and
transportation sectors, and that the residential sector is also responsible for 17% of the total consumed
energy (NRCan 2008b). Figure 1 1: Breakdown of Energy use by sector in Canada (NRCan

Women On The Front Line
Society has built a stereotype that says women are inherently weaker than men. This has limited
women s chances to get ahead, but people are not standing idly by instead they are pushing for women
to get equal opportunity. Some of these advancements are that women now have the right to vote, to
own their property, and get jobs. However, not all jobs are available to women such as combat
positions in the military. Combat positions or chances on the front line are unavailable to women
because they are depicted as fragile and in need of protection. Women deserve the opportunity to try to
gain their placement on the front line because women can be just as strong as men and they are willing
to fight. The military is denying women the opportunity

The Impact of Rana Catesbeiana in Arizona
The Impact of Rana Catesbeiana in Arizona Invasive species are organisms that are accidentally or
intentionally introduced into an environment, that adapts quickly and disrupts the natural ecosystem.
Bullfrogs (Rana catesbeiana) are native to the northeastern part of North America and are some of the
most damaging invasive species. Many cultures around the world eat frog as a delicacy, so bullfrogs
were gathered up and sold around the world. However, some of the species were introduced into
countries around the world. Currently, they have become established in over fifteen countries as
invasive species (Save The Frogs! et al. 2013). Many sources say that the initial spread of this invasive
species began at the end of the 1800 s when bullfrogs were shipped to California to fill hungry loggers
appetite for frog legs. The frogs competed with the other native species with the supply of natural
resources while also consuming and exploiting the native amphibian species as well. Worldwide Rana
catesbeiana has driven over one hundred native species of frogs to extinction (Save The Frogs! et al.
2013). This is a huge impact on amphibian wildlife worldwide because there are about 4,800 species
of frogs. Over the past hundred years the bullfrog has wiped out over 2% of the world s species of
frogs. Studies have shown one of the reasons bullfrogs will cripple Arizonian ecosystems and the
native amphibian species directly is because a female bullfrog s physiology

Stephen Jay Gould Sex Drugs Disasters And The Extinction...
Dinosaurs ruled the earth for over 65 million years and thankfully for the human race, they became
extinct. Ultimately, only a major catastrophe could completely wipe out an entire species, let alone an
entity of dinosaurs and the debacle on the causes of dinosaur extinction have flooded the minds of
paleontologists for centuries. Geologist and zoologist Stephen Jay Gould published Sex, Drugs,
Disasters, and the Extinction of Dinosaurs, to compare scientific and speculative causes of dinosaur
decimation. Personally, I found this passage very informational and enjoyed reading it. Gould
provides three theories that capture the reader s curiosity, allowing room for pondering in one s mind.
Defining science in his own words, Gould states ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At the beginning of the passage, he tells the readers that two of these theories are speculation and the
other is pure science but each one is hard to dismiss. Testicular malfunction, the first example, cannot
provide enough evidence to support this theory, solely because a paleontologist cannot extract samples
and information from a fossil and simply because testicles do not fossilize. The scientists proving this
theory, E. H. Colbert for an example, admitted that testicular malfunction is just a hypothesis.
Therefore, Gould believes that this theory is merely unusable, but not as disadvantageous as
psychoactive overdosing. Drug overdosing, like sex, can not be tested because again, like testicles,
livers do not fossilize. In addition, there is also not enough evidence to prove this theory explicable,
thus becoming another speculation proposal. Consequently, the theory of asteroidal zapping is the
exponential scientific reasoning for dinosaur extinction. This theory can be proven by Luis and Walter
Alvarez, a father son geologist team, who became the first to propose the idea of asteroidal collision.
The father and son duo collected sediment samples from deep in the Earth s core in which they found
extremely high amounts of iridium. Iridium is a highly testable chemical, therefore allowing the
theory of asteroid and earth collision to be plausible. Gould s final analysis proposes that asteroidal
collision is the most scientific theory among the three. The author believes the asteroid colliding with
earth and changing its temperatures allowed for evolution to happen. In summary, Gould distinctly
and carefully analyzes the three theories, showing his reasoning for his scientific

Vo2 Max Analysis
An athlete with a VO2 max of 65 ml/kg/min will be able to perform at a high level for a longer
duration than an athlete with a VO2 max of 40 mL/kg/min. However, this relates to aerobic work.
Someone with a high VO2 max will not necessarily be able to perform at a higher capacity during
resistance exercise or short duration high intensity work, such as sprints.A complete VO2 Fitness test
can give trainers and clients the tools to set realistic goals and assess improvements. Many people are
inefficient exercisers, with no understanding of what specific heart rate, intensity or duration would

But not all studies take into account changes in lifestyle, motivation levels, injury and many other
factors. A study done on masters runners between the ages of 50 and 82 years of age, who continued to
compete on a regular basis over a 10 year period of time, showed less decline in VO2 max compared
to their non competitive counterparts. Studies also show that a slight decline in VO2 max may be
countered by the ability to deal with greater amounts of lactic acid, an advantage found to exist in
older runners2. This could possibly explain why many endurance athletes in their late 40s and 50s are
still competitive with athletes in their 20s and 30s.You can expect to see fast finish times from top
pros in their 20s and 30s in the results of any endurance event, but now it s also common to see
athletes in their 40s and 50s almost as fast, if not at times faster. For example: the 40 44 year old male
category winner in the 2012 Boston Marathon finished in 2:23:08, just 10:28 behind the overall
winner, making him 15th overall. In Ironman events, the top 40 50 year old finishers consistently

Epictetus Stoic Recommendation of Freedom
Freedom is an arbitrary concept that has been and will always be limited. The notion of freedom is
possible among equals, however, equality itself is universally different. Arendt, a political theorist,
believes political freedom manifests through action, her reliance on the ability to act implies that
humans can tangibly live freely. Epictetus on the other hand, believes that all humans can be internally
free if they had a stoic mindset in their way of life. He believes that human beings are in complete
control of their happiness and should only worry about what they can control instead of what they
cannot. The revolutionary treasure is the original spirit of individual freedom that has been lost
through the principles of public freedom and public happiness. Freedom as Epictetus defines is an
internal condition that only we ourselves possess control over, his stoic recommendation offers a
simple yet rational approach of living life freely.
Public opinion suffocates the original spirit of the revolutionary treasure because public opinion
provokes a common opposition, thus killing true personal opinions of American citizens. Arendt states
that the Founding Fathers of America equated law based on public opinion with tyranny; in this sense,
democracy was to them a new form of despotism. Paradoxical as it may sound, it was in fact under the
impact of the Revolution that the revolutionary spirit in America

The Canterbury Tales by Geoffrey Chaucer
In his novel The Canterbury Tales, Geoffrey Chaucer presents the corruption of the Catholic Church
through several of his characters. Chaucer lived in a time of controversial indulgences, a way to pay
off sins. Chaucer s tales show his opposition to these sinful behaviors that he believed were common
among the clergy. In order to protest against sinful behavior and religious corruption, Chaucer uses
characters such as the pardoner, the friar, the summoner, and the prioress to show the lack of morality
and faith among the clergy, and presents the parson as an example of how to correct corruption of the
Catholic Church. Chaucer demonstrates corruption of the clergy through the pardoner who is a sinner
since he deceives the innocent through greed, which at the time was a mortal sin. Chaucer describes
the pardoner as having a bunch of relics in his pouch such as a croys of latoun, full of stones (GP 699).
However, Chaucer retorts, But with thise relikes, whan that he fond A povre person dwellynge upon
lond, Upon a day he gat hym moore moneye
Than that the person gat in monthes tweye (GP 701 704).
Here, Chaucer calls the pardoner a liar who uses false relics to collect money from people he meets
who are trying to repent of their sins. The pardoner is even more appalling because he preaches
against greed, yet he is guilty of that very sin when he tricks the innocent into giving him large
amounts of money by using these false relics. Chaucer characterizes the pardoner as

Tattooing Women And Women
It is a shocking reality that, while since 2012 more women in the US have tattoos than men, only one
in six tattoo artist s is a woman. While there are many women featured in magazines such as Inked, it
is rare to see any working in shops as artists. Since the rise of tattooing as prominent industry in the
mid twentieth century, it has almost always been a male dominant field. With the progressive nature of
modern society, the tattoo industry can become more inclusive of female artists if they can be
respected more as being serious and talented. The tattooing field today is extremely exclusive and
difficult to break into, as well as being highly male dominated. Machismo and strength are greatly
valued in shops as becoming an artist (and having completed an apprenticeship) is notoriously
difficult. An apprenticeship, the two to three year period of training under an established artist, is
necessary to become an independant artist and consists of sweeping, cleaning stations, scrubbing
bathrooms, making appointments, and everything that is required to maintain a shop. Unfortunately,
apprentices are usually known as the shop b**ch and are hazed mercilessly in order to weed out the
weak and instill the thick skin necessary to work as an artist. For women apprenticing, this hazing can
easily take the form of sexual harassment and misogyny in the workplace. This diminutive harassment
that remains unquestioned and is considered required in the industry contributes to the low

Atheism, Nihilism, And Nihilism
I believe atheism, and nihilism do have certain things in common, but Atheism does not necessarily
entail nihilism. There is more than one type of nihilism found in society, and even though Nihilism
may entail Atheism. but they are both different. Looking closer at the definition of Nihilism and
Atheism I found the main difference in definition between the two which will later be explained in
detail. There are many types of beliefs that could could be consider Nihilism, but only two that
express the true meaning to the word; Moral Nihilism and Metaphysical Nihilism, these believes could
get confused to being Atheism, that s why knowing the true meaning of Moral Nihilism, Metaphysical
Nihilism and Atheism will give us a better representation of what they are and how they where they
differ from each other. To begin to understand the difference between Atheism and Nihilism I had first
to understand what each meant and the views each of them have.
At first Nihilism and Atheism may seem like they mean the same thing. Looking deeper into the
definition of each of the words we will find that they are not. Atheism is the denial ( Smart, J. J. C. ) in
God(s). Furthermore, it could be said that Atheism is not a belief system, it doesn t disbelieve the
existence of Gods, it denies that there is a God. Older dictionaries have defined Atheism as a belief

Social Injustice In If You Come Softly, By Jacqueline Woodson
Different is Unique
Social injustice affects many people around the world. Race, religion, class, gender, and sexual
orientation are all apart of social injustice, outside characteristics are the first thing one is judged
upon. Today in society people get judged and dehumanized everyday, because they are looked at first
by their outside characteristics. In the realistic fiction books If You Come Softly by Jacqueline
Woodson, The Boy in the Striped Pajamas by John Boyne, and Miracle s boys also by Jacqueline
Woodson the authors demonstrate that social injustice can occur when individuals are viewed by only
their outward characteristics and beliefs.

put into concentration camps, were tortured, and dehumanized. No, not them, said Bruno. The people I
see from my window. In the huts, in the distance. They re all dressed the same. Ah those people, said
Father, nodding his head and smiling slightly. Those people . . . well, they re not people at all, Bruno
(Boyne 53). That all happened because of their religious beliefs. The Jewish community was turned
into less than they were. Also they were made into prisoners and people did not want to be seen with
them. Do you know this boy? repeated Kolter in a louder voice. Have you been talking to the
prisoners? (Boyne 172).

The Theory Of Assimilation And The American Dream
The theory of Assimilation was introduce in the article of Trucios Haynes and its basically talks about
immigrants coming to America and that they need to be force to give up on their own culture and
assimilate to the American culture. Throughout the reading, I have learned that the theory of
Assimilation has been present in this country for many years and how impactful it can still be. Since
America was built around immigrants, the first people who came in to this country has already
establish a certain life style and whoever would come after them, those immigrants are force to be like
the current W.A.S.P. Assimilation in essence is a concept that the first immigrant s created for forcing
other immigrants to adapt to their own culture and forget their own culture to be an American. If you
choose to not assimilate, then you will have a tougher time in gaining the benefits in living in this
country and chasing down the idea of the American Dream. The first article titled 50 Years Ago,
Immigration Changed in America talks about to deport the illegal and legal immigrants who came to
America. After they are deported, should we as a country build a wall to block people from Mexico
from coming to America Throughout the reading, the Immigration and Nationality Act of 1965 was
mention in giving us an example of how we treated immigrants. This law was based on the national
origin that heavily favored Western Europeans such as the Irish, Germans and the English. This law

Gun Control Laws
While many people believe there should be more gun control and the possibility of banning guns all
together, I believe the gun control laws should not be changed. Although there are many reasons that
may persuade people to choose to ban guns, I believe that there are several other reasons that lead to
all the tragedies with guns in America. Banning guns is not an answer the gun problem in America,
there are a few other things that could be done to stop gun violence. In this essay I will tell about why
I believe gun control laws should not be changed. After the many shootings in schools over the past
two years, many people believe guns should be made illegal for civillians to posses or purchase guns.
While this may make it difficult for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Also, many people obtain guns from stealing it from another person, or buying it off a citizen who is
unknowledgable or uncaring for the law, or the temperment of the buyer. Besides, if a person who is of
age, and has a clear record wishes to buy a gun to be violent with it, there is no way of preventing him
or her. Anyone who believes strengthening the gun control laws would reduce gun violence is correct.
However, if someone wants to kill someone, not having a gun is unfortunately not going to stop him
or her. If a gun is not accessible, a person who wishes to kill someone will use another weapon that is
accessible, such as a knife or bludgeon of sorts. Banning guns will lessen gun violence, but will bring
up a rise in violence with other weapons. Unfortunately, many people possess guns would should not
posses one. However I do not see it feasible to strengthen guns laws. I believe that there should be
stronger penalties for people who are caught with a gun illegally and stronger penalties for people who
are or threaten violence with a gun. This would make people think twice about smuggling a gun, or
carry them when they are not supposed to. This might also influence Congress to pass a law for a
stronger background check on people purchasing a gun, which would satisfy both sides of this
argument. A stronger penalty for gun offenders might cause the amount of violence without a gun to
rise a

Broken Arm or Just a Muscle Stretch
You always sit in that room and play your silly video game, can you at least go outside for a walk or
something? Mom screamed. It was a beautiful sunny day. One of those pleasant, brilliant days that all
you want to do is relax on the beach. Sit under a colossal umbrella, drink some kind of icy lemonade
and not think about anything. But at the same time, the sun was like a lava from an erupting volcano .
The more you were standing in the sun without cover, the worst it gets. The sun was striking with its
brightness like a lightning, super bright and sparkly. As always emptiness was around the corner in my
head, and games were the answer. For me the games were basically everything. Deeply would ...

History And Perceptions Of American Sign Language Essay
History and Perceptions of American Sign Language
Sign language is one most common ways for deaf individuals to communicate without using of their
voices. Different cultures and languages will typically have their own version of sign language so
signs are not always universal, just like gestures are not universal. Signs are culturally bound in
communication just like verbal languages and gestures are culturally bound. I will examine the history
of American Sign Language, as well as how it has been viewed culturally with positive and negative
social implications in the U.S.
History of American Sign Language
In order to fully understand the creation of American Sign Language (ASL), it must be understood that
it is a form of communication. That means every sign has a meaning that is culturally bound just like
languages in oral communication. That also means that the language has a distinctive origin. In fact,
ASL carries several linguistic features that are similar to spoken languages (Rosen, 2008) such as the
presence of homonyms and its constant evolution (Shaw Delaporte, 2011). The unique concept about
ASL, though, is that it actually has very strong ties and connections with the French Sign Language,
also known as LFS. This connection is explained by Delaporte Shaw (2009) and Shaw Delaporte
(2011) as being due to how ASL was formalized in the U.S. by Thomas Hopkins Gallaudet with the
help of a deaf French professor named Laurent Clerc who used LSF. Because LFS

The Character Analysis Of Gregory, By Panos Ioannides
The results of one s involvement in society s conflicts can be devastating. The short story Gregory by
Panos Ioannides creates a setting where the characters are involved in the 1925 revolutionary conflict
between Britain and Cyprus. Consequently, the plot focuses around an executioner who has the order
to kill a British captive named Gregory, who became his friend. To make matters worse, fellow
soldiers inform the executioner that he must to kill Gregory or else the Headquarters will execute him
for failure to obey orders. Therefore, he struggles with the decision to either please his society or stay
true to his friendship with Gregory. The author emphasizes this difficulty with use of mood, stream of
consciousness, foreshadowing and visual imagery. Thus, Panos Ioannides short story Gregory
develops the idea that society s expectations and relationships can influence one s moral decisions and
create consequences. To begin with, Ioannides exemplifies this idea with the use of mood. The
executioner struggles to pull the trigger when the soldiers watch him, and he seems nervous. This is
apparent when the executioner mentions, My hand was sweating...curve of the trigger biting against
my finger...soldiers were watching... (Ioannides 142). The conflict between these characters creates an
emotional impact and sets a tense mood. To add on, the tense mood establishes the social pressures the
executioner faces as his peers watch him. This affects his ethical decisions since he

How Did The Fur Trade Affect American Culture
The standard history of the fur trade tended to consider the Aboriginal Canadians as monolithic and
treated them as completely subject to European dominance, economic and technological, from first
contact. They argued that exploitative dealings and reliance on European technology immediately and
inevitably led to the collapse of native societies. More recently historians, such as Bruce Trigger,
while examining the Hurons drew attention to different elements of Huron society and how they
responded to European influence over time. Other historians such as Abraham Rothstein have
examined the cultural rather than economic aspects of the fur trade and maintained that it was not the
exploitative relationship presented by the traditional view. Others ... Show more content on

In addition to altering alliances, the basic destructive capacity of guns significantly altered the nature
of warfare between tribes, as described by a Saukamappee youth in comparing two battles, the first of
which predates the introduction of guns, in which he stated on both sides several were wounded, but
none lay on the ground; and night put an end to the battle without a scalp being taken on either side,
and in those days such was the result, unless one party was more numerous than the other. and
continues to describe a battle after the introduction of guns : the battle had begun about Noon, and the
Sun was not yet half down, when we perceived that some of them had crawled away from their
shields...The greater part of the enemy took flight, but some fought bravely and we lost more than ten
killed and many wounded; Part of us pursued, and killed a few, but the chase had soon to be given
over, for at the body of everything Snake Indian killed, there were five or six of us trying to get his
scalp or part of his clothing, his weapons, or something of his as a trophy of the battle. (Friesen,38).
Friesen characterized the pre gun warfare as rather benign, stating that Shields were adequate to

Can Money Buy Happiness Essay
Can money buy everything, including money?
Some people think that money can buy everything. Does that include happiness? Can money really
buy happiness? Different people have different opinion about this as well as the definition of
happiness that varies through people. According to the dictionary, happiness is the state of being
happy. Happiness is not just a state of mind but it is a state of emotion. Martin Seligman, the father of
positive psychology, theorises that while 60% of happiness is determined by our genetics and
environments, the remaining 40 % is up to us. Psychologists have researched that when you are happy,
certain hormones are release. The feelings we experience are nothing more than chemical reactions
taking place in our body. So do you think money can be used to make this reaction happen? Can
money really buy happiness? This world is full of wealthy people, such as the royal and billionaire.
The question is, are they always happy? We cannot deny the fact that money is needed in order for us
to be able to satisfy our ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

that lingers for long time. In conclusion, happiness can happen in thousands of ways. It is just whether
you want happiness to last for a long time or just a short period. Think of what makes you happy., our
doubts about happiness cannot be answered abstractly. Not even the best theories can make you
happy; you have to test it yourself. However, to me, I don t think I can buy feelings and certainly

  • 2. Overview Of Methodologies. Effectuation . Effectual Reasoning Overview of Methodologies Effectuation Effectual reasoning was researched and developed by Sara Sarasvathy, Associate Professor in the Darden Graduate School of Business Administration at the University of Virginia. As stated by Sarasvathy, effectual is the inverse causal (Sarasvathy, n.d.). Throughout history, business students have been taught causal reasoning (Sarasvathy, n.d.). Causal reasoning consists of finding the best means (cheapest, quickest, most efficient, etc.) to reach a predetermined goal (Sarasvathy, n.d.). However, effectuation takes the opposite approach. Effectual thinking consists of collecting current means and determining potential outcomes utilizing these means. (Sarasvathy, n.d.). One approach is not better ... Not all surprises are always bad. Surprises can be used to help develop and grow a new venture. Rather than trying to predict the future, focus on activities within your control ( What is effectuation? 2011). The logic behind effectual thinking is... to the extent that we can control the future, we do not need to predict it (Sarasvathy, n.d.). • 3. Analysis Of The Poem Ode Of Spring By John Keats Essay In the poem Ode to Autumn by John Keats, my initial thoughts of this work is how the author does a beautiful job describing the season. The way that he makes his words come to life. The poem makes you feel as if you are right there in the midst of autumn. As I read through the poem, it was as if I could inhale the autumn air. I think the thing that I loved most about this piece is the mere fact that it is my most favorite season of the year. When the poem talks about the songs of spring, it tells you to think not of them. In other words, this is the season of autumn and it too has its own songs to sing. We shouldn t rush through this amazing season, but yet slow down and enjoy each moment that it brings us. The Romantic relationship of nature and soul communicated in one of two ways. The landscape was, on one hand viewed as an expansion of the human identity, equipped for sensitivity for man s enthusiastic state. On other hand, nature was viewed as a vehicle for soul just as man; the breath of God fills both man and the earth (Hanson, 2015). Keats stood out in the early nineteenth century Romanticism, a development that embraced the sacredness of emotion and creative energy and privileged the magnificence of the natural world (John Keats, n.d.). In the attempt of bringing old ways to gain new knowledge John Keats wrote the Romanticism style poem, Ode to Autumn . Throughout the movie, Uncle Ethan is depicted as some determined cowboy who is willing to do and give anything to get his family back and prove his loyalty to them. He even goes to great lengths to hunt and kill the Indians just to get back what is his. He challenges the romanticized American West a little when it comes to making some decisions you wouldn t see most cowboys doing as he brutally murders the Indians and undeniably shows his racism and hatred towards them. After all, cowboys are meant to represent the great country of America and be our hero and role model to others. The whole idea of violence is described quite differently in both works. In the movie, The Searchers, Uncle Ethan shows a rather special level of violence in which everything he does is rather bloodless and nonviolent, for the most part. When it comes down to the Indians, he lets his rage get to him, especially with that one scene where he literally shot out the eyes of an already dead Indian. Uncle Ethan commits violence in a less bloody way than John Grady does. Comparing this with John Grady s encounter with the cuchillero, McCarthy sketches us of a more bloodier altercation. He ran his tongue into the corner of his mouth and tasted blood. He knew his face had been cut but he didn t know how bad (200). From what McCarthy is trying to say here, it seems as if he is romanticizing the whole myth of the cowboy a little. John Grady tastes blood as if he had tasted it before. He ignores the fact that his face is cut, not knowing how bad it was. McCarthy presents John Grady as if he is some sort of brave cowboy who fears no blood. From the red boutonniere blossoming on the left pocket of his blue work shirt, there spurted a thin fan of bright arterial blood. He dropped to his knees and pitched forward dead into the arms of his enemy (201). It starts to get more and more gory as McCarthy is describing the Cuchilleros death ... • 5. Motor Vehicle Safety Essay Problem Statement: Motor vehicle accidents are one of the leading causes of death in the United States, and are the leading cause of death in children aged 13 and under [1]. In 2015, 220 per one million children under the age of 4 were involved in fatal motor vehicle accidents [1]. In addition to motor vehicle accidents, improper uses of Child Restraint Systems (CRS) in cars are known to cause an increased risk of injury. Targeting the specific aspect of children being incorrectly fastened to their car seats could possibly prevent injuries and/or deaths due to motor vehicle accidents. These deaths are a topic of concern due to that fact that children need more protection in vehicles than adults do. According to PennDOT, children under age four must be securely fastened in a federally approved child passenger restraint system (CRS) [2]. However, there are multiple studies and statistics that show that many families do not know how to correctly use a child car seat. A Canadian study, which observed more than 13,000 children, noted that approximately only 90% were using car seats. Of these, only 60% were using the correct type of car seat, with only 20% of those aged four to eight years old using booster seats [3]. According to Claridge and Fabian (2005), one of the earliest examples of EBM is found in the biblical book of Daniel. Regardless of religious affiliation, this story or anecdote provides an excellent example of a controlled study, which is one of the foundations of EBM. In this story, Daniel and his three friends Azariah, Mishael, and Hananiah, refuse to eat the food provided to them by their king. Since starvation was not an option, they proposed to their steward (who was set over them) to test them for ten days by only giving them vegetables and water for their consumption. Then they, Daniel and his three friends, would be compared to the other young men who had consumed the food provided to them by the king. Daniel and his friends agreed that they would then submit to the direction and wisdom of the steward, after he was able to evaluate both groups. The end result of the experiment was that Daniel and his friends were noticeably healthier than their counterparts who had eaten of the king s food (Claridge, Fabian, 2005, p. 548). ... The percentage of each asset class one wants to hold is more important than the individual securities within each class. One must first decide the percentage of each class to hold. Individual risk tolerance will play a large role in this decision. Many individuals equate risk with the likelihood of losing money, the higher the risk the greater the chance of losing money. Investment professionals use a broader definition of risk. They look at risk as the volatility of an asset, or how much the return stream goes up and down over a certain time period. Weapons Of Mass Destruction Essay In the text weapons of mass destruction refers to materials, weapons, or devices that are intended to cause death or serious bodily injury to a significant number of people (page 711, para. 3,4). In 1939, Albert Einstein s Letter to President Roosevelt mentioned that the work of scientists E. Fermi and L. Geologist and zoologist Stephen Jay Gould published Sex, Drugs, Disasters, and the Extinction of Dinosaurs, to compare scientific and speculative causes of dinosaur decimation. Personally, I found this passage very informational and enjoyed reading it. Gould provides three theories that capture the reader s curiosity, allowing room for pondering in one s mind. Defining science in his own words, Gould states ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... At the beginning of the passage, he tells the readers that two of these theories are speculation and the other is pure science but each one is hard to dismiss. Testicular malfunction, the first example, cannot provide enough evidence to support this theory, solely because a paleontologist cannot extract samples and information from a fossil and simply because testicles do not fossilize. The scientists proving this theory, E. H. Colbert for an example, admitted that testicular malfunction is just a hypothesis. Therefore, Gould believes that this theory is merely unusable, but not as disadvantageous as psychoactive overdosing. Drug overdosing, like sex, can not be tested because again, like testicles, livers do not fossilize. In addition, there is also not enough evidence to prove this theory explicable, thus becoming another speculation proposal. Consequently, the theory of asteroidal zapping is the exponential scientific reasoning for dinosaur extinction. This theory can be proven by Luis and Walter Alvarez, a father son geologist team, who became the first to propose the idea of asteroidal collision. The father and son duo collected sediment samples from deep in the Earth s core in which they found extremely high amounts of iridium. Iridium is a highly testable chemical, therefore allowing the theory of asteroid and earth collision to be plausible. Gould s final analysis proposes that asteroidal collision is the most scientific theory among the three. The author believes the asteroid colliding with earth and changing its temperatures allowed for evolution to happen. In summary, Gould distinctly and carefully analyzes the three theories, showing his reasoning for his scientific ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The notion of freedom is possible among equals, however, equality itself is universally different. Arendt, a political theorist, believes political freedom manifests through action, her reliance on the ability to act implies that humans can tangibly live freely. Epictetus on the other hand, believes that all humans can be internally free if they had a stoic mindset in their way of life. He believes that human beings are in complete control of their happiness and should only worry about what they can control instead of what they cannot. The revolutionary treasure is the original spirit of individual freedom that has been lost through the principles of public freedom and public happiness. Freedom as Epictetus defines is an internal condition that only we ourselves possess control over, his stoic recommendation offers a simple yet rational approach of living life freely. Public opinion suffocates the original spirit of the revolutionary treasure because public opinion provokes a common opposition, thus killing true personal opinions of American citizens. • 33. The Canterbury Tales by Geoffrey Chaucer In his novel The Canterbury Tales, Geoffrey Chaucer presents the corruption of the Catholic Church through several of his characters. Chaucer lived in a time of controversial indulgences, a way to pay off sins. Chaucer s tales show his opposition to these sinful behaviors that he believed were common among the clergy. In order to protest against sinful behavior and religious corruption, Chaucer uses characters such as the pardoner, the friar, the summoner, and the prioress to show the lack of morality and faith among the clergy, and presents the parson as an example of how to correct corruption of the Catholic Church. Chaucer demonstrates corruption of the clergy through the pardoner who is a sinner since he deceives the innocent through greed, which at the time was a mortal sin. Chaucer describes the pardoner as having a bunch of relics in his pouch such as a croys of latoun, full of stones (GP 699). However, Chaucer retorts, But with thise relikes, whan that he fond A povre person dwellynge upon lond, Upon a day he gat hym moore moneye Than that the person gat in monthes tweye (GP 701 704). Here, Chaucer calls the pardoner a liar who uses false relics to collect money from people he meets who are trying to repent of their sins. The pardoner is even more appalling because he preaches against greed, yet he is guilty of that very sin when he tricks the innocent into giving him large amounts of money by using these false relics. While there are many women featured in magazines such as Inked, it is rare to see any working in shops as artists. Since the rise of tattooing as prominent industry in the mid twentieth century, it has almost always been a male dominant field. With the progressive nature of modern society, the tattoo industry can become more inclusive of female artists if they can be respected more as being serious and talented. The tattooing field today is extremely exclusive and difficult to break into, as well as being highly male dominated. Machismo and strength are greatly valued in shops as becoming an artist (and having completed an apprenticeship) is notoriously difficult. An apprenticeship, the two to three year period of training under an established artist, is necessary to become an independant artist and consists of sweeping, cleaning stations, scrubbing bathrooms, making appointments, and everything that is required to maintain a shop. History And Perceptions Of American Sign Language Essay History and Perceptions of American Sign Language Sign language is one most common ways for deaf individuals to communicate without using of their voices. Different cultures and languages will typically have their own version of sign language so signs are not always universal, just like gestures are not universal. Signs are culturally bound in communication just like verbal languages and gestures are culturally bound. I will examine the history of American Sign Language, as well as how it has been viewed culturally with positive and negative social implications in the U.S. History of American Sign Language In order to fully understand the creation of American Sign Language (ASL), it must be understood that it is a form of communication. That means every sign has a meaning that is culturally bound just like languages in oral communication. That also means that the language has a distinctive origin. In fact, ASL carries several linguistic features that are similar to spoken languages (Rosen, 2008) such as the presence of homonyms and its constant evolution (Shaw Delaporte, 2011). The unique concept about ASL, though, is that it actually has very strong ties and connections with the French Sign Language, also known as LFS. This connection is explained by Delaporte Shaw (2009) and Shaw Delaporte (2011) as being due to how ASL was formalized in the U.S. by Thomas Hopkins Gallaudet with the help of a deaf French professor named Laurent Clerc who used LSF.
