The survey and interviews showed that the target audience for the magazine is females aged 16-25 who enjoy indie and acoustic music genres. They use social media regularly and trust clothing brands like Asos and H&M. Music is very important to the audience as a way to escape from stress. The magazine should focus on indie music artists, include content about their social media profiles, and feature professional studio photos. Interviews will be a key article type along with concert reviews and discussions of various music genres. Ads should feature clothing brands and the price point should be £2.50 to match the audience's financial position.
This is my Initial Ideas where I talk about how I would want my magazine to be by picking out certain things I want and why this would be successful to do so.

3. Q.1 What is your age?
My results show that the majority of the
people who took my survey are aged 16
to 18. This shows my audience will be
aimed at younger people. The second
most common was 19 to 25 and I got two
15 year olds in other responses so this will
increase the age range my magazine is
aimed at. This means the contents of my
magazine will be directed towards this
age range by including topics that are
specific to this age range. As my
audience is younger I will be more
internet/social media centric as it is widely
used in this age range.
4. Q.2 What is your gender?
The majority of people who took my were
female. This means my magazine will be
predominantly aimed at females. I will
make the contents female centric but not
the sexual view the media normally
presents of women. My magazine will be
empowering to women and include topics
that are specific for women especially
younger women.
5. Q.3 Out of these music genres
which one attracts you most?
This question shows that there are many
different music genres people like. This
could mean I create a magazine like Q
where they cover many different music
genres and artists. However pop was the
most popular so I could do a pop
magazine like Top of the Pops. This
means I will include general information
on many different genres as my audience
are spread evenly across the genres.
6. Q.4 If you were to buy a music
magazine which one would you buy?
The most popular magazine is Q. This will
reflect on the genre of music my
magazine covers. Q magazine covers
many different music artists and genres
so this will reflect on my magazine.
7. Q.5 Out of these music magazines
which layout do you like best?
The most popular answer was number 5, NME’s Artic Monkeys
cover. This means I will use this cover as an inspiration for my
magazines cover. I will use bold colours that draw the
audience’s eye. I will also use both calligraphy and bold fonts.

8. Q.6 What type of music article
would you prefer to read?
This questions has a wide range of
answers because I let the people taking
the survey pick more than one thing. The
most popular answer however was
interviews. These results will reflect on my
magazine. Because interviews was the
most popular answer I may use it as my
magazines double page spread. I will
also use these types of articles in my
contents page and also feature some on
my cover. My audience enjoys a large
amount of content in magazines meaning
my magazine will include and cover all
these types of article.
9. Q.7 What type of artists would you
like best in a music magazine?
The most popular answer was popular
international. This means my magazine
will be about popular international artists.
Because up and coming was the second
most popular answer I could include a
section on that type of artist in my
magazine. This shows my audience has a
worldwide taste in music and shows they
enjoy many different cultures in music.
This means my magazine will cover the
world’s music not just a specific place.
10. Q.8 How much would you pay for a
magazine?
The results of this question gives me a
choice of whether I do a weekly magazine
or monthly at £2.50. This price choice
reflects the financial position my audience
is in. It shows they cannot spend too
much meaning I will keep the price of my
magazine low. This price will play a role in
deciding what will be in the magazine and
the quality of that content.
11. Q.9 What type of images would you
like best in the magazine?
The most popular answer for this question
was professional studio images. This
means I will be using mostly this type of
images in my magazine. This shows my
audience like a professional looking
magazine. This will reflect on the rest of
the magazines content making it more
professional.
12. Q.10 What type of promotional
items would you like best? (free)
The most popular answer for this question
is tickets but giving away free tickets to a
large audience will not be possible so
instead I will do a competition to win
tickets and instead include the second
most popular answer, a free CD. The most
popular answer being tickets shows my
audience likes to go to concerts and
enjoys live music. This means I will
include content on live music and
concerts in my magazine in the form of
reviews.
14. Q.1 What do you do in your spare time?
Lucy
Lucy’s response was: she goes to a
singing club, goes to the gym and
laze about the house
Ellie
Ellie’s response was: she looks after
her younger brother and plays
multiple instruments like guitar and
cello.
These answers show that my audience is active, family orientated and
musical. The strongest view that comes across is that they are musical. This
means my magazine will be targeted towards an audience that enjoys
listening but also playing/creating music. This will help me tailor my choice
of advertisements and what my articles are about.
15. Q.2 How would you describe yourself?
Lucy
Lucy described herself as fun,
loving and caring.
Ellie
Ellie described herself as sarcastic,
boisterous (with her friends), quiet
and mature.
These answers show that my audience have a wide range of personality
types but are all quite mature and loving. This will help me understand what
type of article content my audience would be interested in (eg gossip,
competitions, quizzes).
16. Q.3 If you received £100 what would you spend it on?
Lucy
Lucy said she would give some to
her family and then go shopping.
Ellie
Ellie said she would spend it on
guitar strings for her guitar.
These answers show that my audience are caring and thoughtful but also
enjoy shopping and music. This also shows me what type of content my
audience would like and means I can cater the content of the magazine with
things like mentions of family in interviews and playing instruments.
17. Q.4 What brands do you trust?
Lucy
Lucy said she trusts asos (clothing
company)
Ellie
Ellie said she trusts H&M (clothing
company) and shops that are local
to her.
These answers show that my audience trust and enjoy clothing companies
indicating they care for their style. It also shows they like and trust local brands
to them. This helps me cater the adverts I include in my magazine and also
what type of style the artists featured in the magazine wear.
18. Q.5 Do you use social media?
Lucy
Lucy said she uses it often and uses
twitter and tumblr the most.
Ellie
Ellie said she uses facebook and
we<3it.
These answers show that my audience use many different social medias
but all enjoy and regularly use social media therefore my magazine should
have social media links and accounts in it. This shows me that my audience
likes to use social media and will probably follow their favourite artists on
there meaning I could include sections on what celebs have been doing on
social media.
19. Q.6What music genres do you like?
Lucy
Lucy said she likes indie and
alternative music.
Ellie
Ellie said she likes acoustic music
(e.g James Bay) but also punk-pop
(e.g Fall Out Boy and All Time Low)
These answers show my audience have a wide taste in music meaning my
magazine will show appreciation for all types of music but I have decided to
focus on just indie music. I have chosen this because Lucy has said she
enjoys indie music and Ellie said she enjoys acoustic music.
20. Q.7Is music important to you? If so, why?
Lucy
Lucy said music is very important to
her because it help her escape from
stress in life; ‘it is an escape from
reality’
Ellie
Ellie said that music is very
important to her and that it’s her
escape from reality.
These answers show that music is important to my audience and that they
use music as an escape and enjoy it a lot. This means my magazine will be
very focused on music and less on gossip etc. It shows that my audience
appreciates music and that they will know things about music just from the
amount they listen to it.
