In order to determine what is desired by our target audience I designed a
Questionnaire which asks questions about what the audience looks for in a
documentary so it helps us to create a documentary that best fits the style for
our target audience, from this we will gather what the audience is looking for in
our 5 minute documentary. I got open and closed questions so we can get a
variety of quantitative and qualitative responses. Quantitative questions are
useful for grouping things together and working out percentages and create
data to show this. The qualitative questions are useful because they provide a
personal opinion from the audience member you are asking. In total I asked 10
females and 10 males between the age group 16 – 18.
I asked 10 females and 10 males
whether they watched documentaries.
All 10 females that were asked said
they did, however documentaries
were the least popular amongst males
as only 4/10 watched them.

It is evident that more
females than males watch
documentaries, this shows
that documentaries interest
more females than males.
Therefore, perhaps our
documentary will be more
so targeting females.

most is channel 4 as it is popular
between both genders. This gives me
an idea on which channel to
broadcast our documentary on as it
should be on a channel that our target
audience watch.
WHAT TIME DO YOU USUALLY WATCH TV?
Both males and females gave an answer of between 7 and 11pm, suggesting that
this is the best time to air the documentary as it will suit our target audience.

Here, the date tells us what people of our
target audience look for in a documentary. It
is clear that makes want a documentary to be
regarding a topic from which they can learn
something, whereas females would like to
boost their understanding and want to watch
a documentary on a topic they don’t have
much knowledge on. Using this information
will help us when plotting our documentary
together so we can insure that it contains
information that will best suit our target
audience.

questionnaire they all agreed saying
they would like to see a documentary
in the area of social media. Therefore,
people between 16 – 19 is a perfect age
to target our documentary as they will
have interest in this topic.

WHAT’S YOUR FAVOURITE SOCIAL MEDIA
SITE?
The most common social media apps that were used within this age group were
Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Snapchat and Tumblr. This tells us that people of
this age are up to date with their social accounts and are always engaged with
social media.

All 20 people said that they

social media. This shows how
much of an impact social media
has had on everyone.
To conclude, the information that has been gathered from the
questionnaires will be applied to our documentary. Thus, we will be
able to produce a documentary that will be best for our target audience
as we are fulfilling our audience’s needs. Also, it is clear that the topic
of social media will be perfect as our target audience are interested in a
documentary based on this issue.

Audience research

  • 2. In order to determine what is desired by our target audience I designed a Questionnaire which asks questions about what the audience looks for in a documentary so it helps us to create a documentary that best fits the style for our target audience, from this we will gather what the audience is looking for in our 5 minute documentary. I got open and closed questions so we can get a variety of quantitative and qualitative responses. Quantitative questions are useful for grouping things together and working out percentages and create data to show this. The qualitative questions are useful because they provide a personal opinion from the audience member you are asking. In total I asked 10 females and 10 males between the age group 16 – 18.

Therefore, perhaps our documentary will be more so targeting females.

This gives me an idea on which channel to broadcast our documentary on as it should be on a channel that our target audience watch.
  • 6. WHAT TIME DO YOU USUALLY WATCH TV? Both males and females gave an answer of between 7 and 11pm, suggesting that this is the best time to air the documentary as it will suit our target audience.

It is clear that makes want a documentary to be regarding a topic from which they can learn something, whereas females would like to boost their understanding and want to watch a documentary on a topic they don’t have much knowledge on. Using this information will help us when plotting our documentary together so we can insure that it contains information that will best suit our target audience. WOULD YOU BE INTERESTED IN A DOCUMENTARY ABOUT SOCIAL MEDIA? yes no From the 20 people who were given a questionnaire they all agreed saying they would like to see a documentary in the area of social media. Therefore, people between 16 – 19 is a perfect age to target our documentary as they will have interest in this topic.

  • 10. WHAT’S YOUR FAVOURITE SOCIAL MEDIA SITE? The most common social media apps that were used within this age group were Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Snapchat and Tumblr. This tells us that people of this age are up to date with their social accounts and are always engaged with social media.

  • 12. To conclude, the information that has been gathered from the questionnaires will be applied to our documentary. Thus, we will be able to produce a documentary that will be best for our target audience as we are fulfilling our audience’s needs. Also, it is clear that the topic of social media will be perfect as our target audience are interested in a documentary based on this issue.
