This is a description on the target audience that would be appealed to my magazine genre - hip-hop

1. Audience profile
Age range:
The age range of my target audience would stretch from teenage (13) up to mid twenties
(25)
Gender:
The gender of my target audience would mainly consist of male as they tend to listen to hip-hop
more however there still would be a small proportion of females listening to hip-hop.
The percentage divison would be approximately 75% male and 25% female
Ethnicity:
The audience could be of any race because people have different tastes in music but the
vast majority would be of African-American origin as it in countries in those regions that hip
hop was established. On the other hand there would be a fairly large proportion of people
from a white/caucasion background that listen to it. However statistics show that there is a
half and half split between the two races that listen to hip-hop.
Social class:
Although there are many listeners of hip-hop of different backgrounds and classes, this
particular genre mainly appeals to those of the middle and lower class as they feel they can
relate to the genre more than those of higher class. Hip-hop originated in African countries
which were suffering from poverty and high crime rates so people turned to hip-hop as a
means of escape and a way of expressing their anger and emotion.
Type of person:
The sort of person that would listen to hip-hop would most likely be a student. They would
tend to shop in fashionable and designer retail stores in ordder to replicate their idols. The
genre of film they would watch would be action/thriller and possibly horror as a large
quantity of rap lyrics tend to focus on these sort of topics e.g. crime.
