Who would be the audience for your media product?
Age – My target age group for my magazine is 16-30 year olds. This is
the target market for hip hop music and therefore my magazine. This is
because hip hop is recently developed, blowing up majorly in the 90s.
Therefore those over the age of 30 tend to find hip hop immature and
not understand the message behind lyrics. Also younger people are
more accustomed to drug and gang culture, themes often discussed in
hip hop, and therefore do not take offence to certain references within
the genre. It could also be said that the younger people of today are
more accustomed to crude behavior such as sex, drugs, violence and
rude language. If anything people are desensitized to these topics and
some even idolize/ respect them.
Gender – I would say that my magazine target the male audience, as
hip hop is a male dominated genre. Although hip hop has many female
fans, they typically support more mainstream artists and are not part of
the niche market TRILL targets/appeals to.
Ethnicity – Hip hop is traditionally dominated by African Americans,
although there are many rappers of other ethnicities this would be the
core demographic. Hip Hop is enjoyed by a wide range of people, all
over the globe. However the core listeners would be said to be African
American.
Location – As I said previously Hip Hop is enjoyed everywhere, all
around the globe. However the dominating market would be found in
the USA and Canada specifically Toronto. Recently many of the top
artists have come from Canada however Hip Hop legends have been
2. found in L.A, New York and Chicago. If I were to target a location it
would be the USA and Canada.
