Magazine inspiration
1. Magazine inspiration
The first technique I plan to re-create in my production is the use of a constant colour
scheme throughout on the cover. As shown in the first magazine example with the hip hop
artist 2 Chainz, the colours red, white and black are essentially the only colours used. This
technique makes the cover stand out as it is simple and original and the image is the centre
of attention as the colour contrasts with the colours of the text. Using too much colours or
not sticking to a particular colour scheme can make the magazine look unattractive and
unprofessional. Also, hip hop magazines tend to use similar colours such as black, red, green
etc. so this would help to distinctly mark my magazine out as a hip hop magazine.
Secondly, having a pull quote on the front cover as the second example shows or double
page spread is another technique I would like to replicate in my magazine. âLiterally diedâ is
the example of the pull quote used in the second magazine cover and it is referring to the
drugs that the artist Eminem was taking. It is such an effective technique because it seems
to the audience that the artist is talking personally to them and it makes it more relatable. It
also indicates that there is going to be an exclusive interview or article about the artist in
the magazine so it entices the reader to read the magazine.
The final technique I plan to use in my magazine is a simple yet catchy cover line. This is very
important as it almost tells the audience what the article about the artist is going to be
about. It also engages the audience into reading the magazine and it sets the tone for the
article. The third example, the Kanye West magazine, has the cover line âNo risk. No
rewardâ and this is a very effective cover line but also unbelievably simple. It also uses
alliteration with the repetition of the ârâ sound and this makes it more engaging.
