Astrology And Greek Mythology
––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––. Whether astrology is accepted as true has yet to
be determined. For centuries, astrology has been used to provide a deeper understanding of nature
and identity.
Astrology originates from Babylon– developing from the belief that the heavens ruled man's fate.
The Babylonians were the first to apply myths to constellations and astrology. The Egyptians refined
the Babylonian system of astrology and the Greeks shaped it into its modern form. It was through
studyings of Plato, Aristotle and others that Babylonian astrology was introduced to the Greeks in
the 4th century B.C.. The Greeks borrowed the occasional component from the Babylonian structure
in order to invent their own system. It is the Greeks who ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

98 percent knew their sun sign– 45 percent believing it to describe their personalities, 25 percent
claiming it can make accurate forecasts, and 20 percent with the impression that the stars influence
life on Earth. Regardless of beliefs, the proven validity of astrology seems to have no effect on the
impact of astrology. Providing partial reasoning for the popularity of astrology is social media and
the ability of networking to reach a large number of people. Courtesy of social media, astrology has
been turned into a meme. Astrologist and astrology meme generators collect followers by
categorizing signs as literally anything, from cat breeds to hair aesthetics. Despite being turned into
a joke by modern technology, prominent figures that have researched astrology with great depth
have made a science out of it. Aristotle and Einstein did such and put their thoughts on display for
people to adapt as their own. Aristotle stated that "this world is inescapably linked to the motions of
the worlds above. All power in this world is ruled by these

Challenge of the Stars Astrology is usually thought to just be the study of stars and is used to make
predictions, but it is much more elaborate than that. Astrology is very often disregarded and not
taken seriously because of its lack of scientific validity and explanatory power. Astrology has been
dated all the way back to the second millennium of BCE, it is believed that with Astrology we can
discover a meaningful relationship between the position of the planets at a particular moment of
time and ourselves. Many cultures including the Chinese, Indians, and Mayans have attached
importance to astronomical events. It is also usually misunderstood as the worship of stars and that
the alignment of stars is what determines fate .Astrology should ... Show more content on

In the article "Astrology conflicts with My Christian Faith and Sense of Self" the author, Morgan
Jerkins, and editorial assistant for Catapult, an equal rights foundation, argues that astrological signs
do not define people and influence their decisions. She demonstrates this by explaining how many
times people ask, "What's your sign?" as a conversation starter, but that it should not matter to
people what her sign. She goes more in depth by arguing that people should not need to know her
sign because they are just going to make assumptions about the type of person she is. Jerkins also
explains how astrology is another type of faith, but she does not see a reason to place her hopes in
the stars. "But I'm also a practicing Christian, and according to the Book of Deuteronomy, the
practice of divination is forbidden" (Jerkins 1). By focusing on how divination is against
Christianity, Jerkins overlooks that not everyone follows the same religion. She also fails to realize
that several things from the bible are overlooked and disregarded because of its irrelevancy.
Therefore, astrology needs to be taken more seriously because it not only brings people joy and
peace of mind but also since there really are no negatives and relative claims as to why people
should not believe in

A Critical Review of the Introduction (pp.xi-xvi) to...
Introduction
Franz Cumont's introduction in Astrology and Religion Among The Greek and
Romans, the Dover 1960 edition of the unabridged and unaltered original work
published, by G P Putnam in 1912, is aimed at the general historical and
theological audience.
On reading Franz Cumont introduction it is obvious he is scathing in his comments
towards the practise of astrology. Along with his contempt of the continuing growth
in the belief of astrology and how, throughout humankind, intellects, academics and
ordinary folk continue to show interest in it.1 It will be argued that Franz Cumont is
outdated with his thoughts on the decline of astrology. He makes reference to the
scientific discovery of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This was difficult, but it was not impossible. 4 Therefore
showing how Cumont's comment; that the planets and their influences made no
sense or difference to humanity after this new scientific discovery, can be considered
as outdated.
Nicholas Campion, author of "Prophecy, Cosmology And The new Age Movement:
The Extent and Nature of Contemporary Belief In Astrology", also argues against this
theory of the decline of astrology by explaining Patrick Curry's distinction of a three
tiered astrology in Power and Prophecy. A 'high' variety of astrology for the
academics and Philosophers, a 'middling' astrology based on horoscopes cast for
individual clients and a third the 'low' form of astrology mainly mass–produced
chronicles. Campion suggests that Curry demonstrated that only the 'high' form of
astrology declined and the 'middling' astrology dwindled in isolated cases, whereas,
the 'low' form of astrology continued to grow.5 Illustrating once again that astrology
did not necessarily decline or die with the scientific discovery of the heliocentric
theory as Cumont suggests.
Cumont continues to show his contempt for ancient astrological roots by suggesting
that astral mathematics had been wrapped up in ancient primal superstitions and he is
astonished it could be linked with intellectual

Astrology Of Alchemy
Originating in ancient Egypt, Alchemy is one of the two oldest sciences that are known in the world,
besides astrology. It can be described as a process in which we shift from our essential state of
unconsciousness, go through plenty alchemical stages portrayed by our most elemental experiences,
to the understanding of full awakening, or enlightenment. Alchemy is a an operation that goes
around from cycle to cycle, repeating over and over again to transform and alter us through the
experiences of our body, soul, and spirit. In alchemical terminology, this is called the Opus, or Great
Work. The larger state of consciousness and our self–understanding that results includes recognition
of our connection to the spirit world and consciousness of the relativity ... Show more content on

Western Alchemy goes all the way back to the start of the Hellenistic period which lasted between
300 BC–300 AD. One of the earliest, legit alchemists is Zosimos of Panopolis in Egypt, who lived
around the end of the period. Zosimos provided us with one of the first definitions of alchemy as the
study of "the composition of waters, movement, growth, embodying and disembodying, drawing the
spirits from the bodies and bonding the spirits within the bodies."(Mendeleyev's Dream– the Quest
for Elements). Born in Akhmim,Egypt, Zosimos is one of the 40 authors represented in a
compendium of alchemical texts that were thought to be put together in Constantinople around the
7th or 8th century AD. They were found existing in manuscripts in Venice and Paris. The latest
author, Synesius, lived in Byzantium (constantinople) around the 4th century. The earliest author
assigned is Pseudo–Democritus(not to be confused with Democritus the greek philosopher),often
referred to as Bolos of Mendes. Bolos was a hellenized Egyptian who lived in the Nile Delta about

Astrology Midterm Paper
Midterm Paper: Astrology as a Pseudoscience While Astrology was based on the scientifically
supported surveillance and movement of celestial bodies , majority of the work drawn from
observations have been poorly executed and negatively received. Astrology consistently contradicts
itself and the professionals that claim it as their practice rarely have any factual counterarguments
for the numerous holes in the research methods or their reliance on mere observation. Astrology
began in Mesopotamia around 3000 B.C. when civilizations began to observe the constellations and
planets in the sky. The Babylonians then realized that the position of celestial bodies allowed them
to predict the seasons and other events that happened cyclically ... Show more content on

"Penn and Teller" conducted an experiment that measured the satisfaction of a personality
description that was written out for every individual in a classroom. The general response was that
of a positive reaction to the description, meaning that majority of the students deemed their report to
be fair and relatively reflective of their personality. The professor then revealed to the class that each
student had received the same description with no variation whatsoever. This experiment exposes
modern astrology and horoscope work for what it really is. A large blanket personality statement that
majority of the population will accept as true. Modern astrology will take a generalization and dole
it out to any uneducated reader of a gossip column or newspaper. The reader is amazed by the
accuracy and continues to buy into the concept of astrology. This astrological magic show, while
very entertaining is not a science, rather a cut and dry statement that makes the ordinary feel special.
Astrology in the 20th and 21st century utilizes very little to no factual information and instead
focuses on the cultivation of a large audience with money to spend. Astrologists and a sympathetic
community do however provide counter arguments as to why Astrology should be taken seriously.
They argue that their methodology is no different from other

Should We Let Astrology Affect Our Thinking Or Perception...
Should we let astrology affect our thinking or perception towards life?
In today's society, astrology has been an extremely fascinating belief and study among certain social
groups. Many people are used to refer to the daily horoscope in newspapers and popular magazines.
However, a large group of scientists and philosophers such as Thagard (1978) consider that
astrology is a pseudoscience, but there is a small amount of scientific evidence on whether if it is
truly a pseudoscience or not. Some of them discuss that the psychological belief in astrology of
oneself is the consequence of his or her desperation in finding solutions to their personal problems
such as marriage and career which can somehow affect their life because of its psychological effects
(Bennett, 1998). Besides, astrology is considered as an "ancestor" of modern science which is
supported by two aspects of discussions (Thomas, 1971). Furthermore, most scientists hold the
opinion that astrology can not be trust because it is lack of scientific support. Nevertheless,
according to Fitts & Fitzgerald (1977), the fate of one person is determined at some level which is
inevitable and inescapable. Moreover, Konstantinides (2004) contradict the idea that constellations
are supposed to determine the characteristics of oneself in that everyone is different somehow even
for twins. At last but not least, some experts claim that people do not necessarily understand
themselves and others through astrology. That is why we

How Can Astrology And Horoscope Predictions Are Supposed...
"Scientists examine how the world works by making observations, taking measurements, and testing
whether their ideas are supported by evidence." We pay attention to what is happening around us
and try to understand it. When we think we understand how two things relate to each other, we
design an experiment. In this paper, I'm going to talk about whether astrology and horoscope
predictions are supposed to be accurate. There are a number of people in our society who put some
faith in astrology. Astrology is the study of the movements and relative positions of celestial objects
as a means for divining information about human affairs and terrestrial events, and horoscope is
based on the Ptolemaic system that the earth is stationary, and moves around the sun in fixed
patterns. Astrology divides the sky into twelve sections, with the different sign of the zodiac based
on the mythological characteristics of the heavenly bodies (Aries, Leo, Aquarius, Cancer, Taurus,
Virgo, Libra, Pisces, Sagittarius, Capricorn, Gemini, and Scorpio). Some astrologers believe that
time of birth, especially the hours and minutes, is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A common claim is that horoscopic astrology make the pre–assumption that our mind is connected
to the universe and read important characteristics about a person. Therefore, astrologists believe that
a person's behavior, emotions, and fate were heavily influenced by the month of that person's birth.
Most people reads a prediction that something interesting would happen, they will looking forward
for that to happen, somehow they have a convenience then that event is on the way. By this cased,
they might think that the predicted of astrology was true. This may be a little harsh because
horoscopes might be of some value if they were usually right or pretty close even they are not quite
perfect, but you probably even know someone who has told you about how perfect their horoscope
matched what happened to them

Exalted Gurū/ Guru in the Lagna should be considered with reference to the horoscope of Bhagwāna

Astrology Is Not Real Science
Astrology has been around for centuries, and people have used the stars, moon, and sun countless
measurements and predictions. It wasn't until modern science was introduced that astrology was
replaced. Still, there are people who believe in this pseudoscience and read their horoscopes
diligently. Fortunately, scientists have evidence to prove astrology is not a true science. Scientists
have different ideas of why astrology is not considered real science. One point made by Kelly,
Janzen, Saklofske (2017) talks about the consistency of findings. Their article states:
Moreover, there is nothing hinting at the sort of internal consistency that would arise if it was all
real, like the effect size for whole charts being bigger than for parts. A meta–analysis (a statistical

they could (1) guess their chart and (2) the astrologers were asked to pick the correct personality test

Despite the fact that we worked with some of the best astrologers in the country, recommended by
the advising astrologers for their expertise in astrology and in their ability to use the CPI, despite the
fact that every reasonable suggestion made by the advising astrologers was worked into the

This study proved that even the professional astrologers could not match the correct personality test
with the astrological chart better than the fifty–fifty chance. This experiment shows that each
person's astrological sign does not describe their personality, because when the professionals did

Vedic astrology further classifies human life–span according planetary periods called Dashas, both
Main (Maha) and Sub (Antar or Bukti) periods. Knowing a particular planetary Dasha helps us
determine the quality of the time concerned, vis–a–vis the influence of the major transits of planets
during that Dasha–period.
Currently you are subject to Shani (Saturn) Maha Dasa which began on June 2004 and goes on until
June 2023. Prior to this, you were subject to Jupiter or Guru Maha Dasa for 16years from June 1988
until June 2004. The 16 years of Guru Dasa would have provided you with marriage, gains, financial
assets, children and successful family life. During this period your overall position in life, including
... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Further, Shani's malefic expression affecting marriage and spouse is because; in your horoscope
Guru (Jupiter ) denotes spouse. And among significations in a family or relationship Ravi
(Surya/Sun) denotes the official or socially recognized position for the male spouse. Now Shani is a
bitter enemy of Surya (Sun). Hence, between 2004 and 2007 when transit Saturn (Gochara Shani)
enters your 3rd house of communication he afflicts natal Guru who sits in your 3rd house. Now
according to Jyotish classification natal Guru clearly denotes your spouse. Hence, by virtue of
transit Shani's entry into your 3rd house from May 2004 and October 2006, he negatively conjuncts
with natal Guru afflicting communication and martial harmony between you and your husband.
Note: in the natural zodiac 3rd house denotes communication. And in the Vedic system of
significations Guru(Jupiter) denotes spouse in a female's chart. Now in your horoscope 3rd house is
also the sign of Cancer or Kataka. And Kataka is ruled by Chandra (Moon). And in Jyotish Moon
denotes our mind. Therefore, without a shadow of doubt the entry of Gochara Shani upon the house
of communication will inflict his poison upon the mind of the spouses; causing separation and
affliction of marriage.
Next between October 2006 and September 2009 Gochara Shani enters your 4th house denoting
home, bonds of attachments and legal ties. Now your 4th house is the sign of

4,000 years ago in Babylonia and Chaldea astrology developed into a science of great complexity,

Another individual that took interest in this topic include William Shakespeare, who used the word
and mentioned astrology in every single one of his plays. He's used the topic over 100 times, which

Along with astrology, Almanacs became very popular as well. "Almanacs typically contained a
calendar, showing the months and days of the week, astronomical events like eclipses, and planetary
aspects as well as astrological predictions" (renaissanceastrology.com). During the middle of the
seventeenth century, William Lilly published his very famous almanac, which was called "Merlinus
Anglicus". His almanac was so popular was that, according the renaissanceastrology.com, it had an
"annual circulation reaching 30,000 copies" and "the total number printed in England during this
period exceeded the number of bibles". From this information, it is not difficult to see that astrology
was immensely popular during this era.
As mentioned before, surely the predictions made by astrologers in the past that happened to come
true sparked a widespread interest in the topic of astrology among many members of society. These
true predictions led people to be interested in their future, and they would go to William Lilly to get

Differences Between Nature Vs Nurture Essay
Throughout this paper, we will be comparing similarities and differences between our seven
members based on the Big Five Inventory test results to our Zodiac sign attributes. Each member of
Psychology 101 Group 14 was required to take the OCEAN Big Personality Quiz, and then compare
the results to the other members of the team. Then after looking at the results individual members
compared their scores to their Zodiac signs to see if they could identify similarities. To begin, while
looking at our comparatives scores of the OCEAN Big 5 Personality quizzes, we found that a few
group members were similar, although there was many differences in the group too. For example,
Gabe and Damon were similar in Openness, with a score of 41 and 35 respectively. On the other
hand, Socoro and Vivianna were outliers in the group, with Vivianna having a score of 5, and Socoro
with a score of 59. We believe while the scores are closely related, our reasons for being close
together in Openness value more shows the debate between nature vs nurture. Gabe's belief on being
in the 35th percentile is how he was raised throughout his family environment similar to Kaitlyn in
the 41st percentile, while Damon's belief for being in the 41st percentile was more so being born
into the statistic rather than recalling any events that contributed to his score. Rachael scored in the

Essay on Gustav Holst
Gustav Holst
Music derived from astrology is surprisingly rare. The ancient Greek philosophers, whatever their
intellectual attitudes towards astrology may have been, were certainly not ignorant of astrological
teachings and ideas. It was they, after all who put forward the idea of the "Music of the Spheres", the
idea that these vast objects twirling around and whirling through space, must have hummed a tone
as they went along their courses, much as a ball spun on a string will whistle. They knew of seven
planets: Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, and Saturn. Not surprisingly, western music
evolved with seven–tone scales. Music and astrology come together again in this suite devoted to
the seven planets, though Uranus ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
From 1895 to 1898, he studied composition at the Royal College of Music. He eventually became an
orchestral trombonist, after teaching composition at Stanford University for some time. In 1905,
Holst was chosen as the Director of Music at the St. Paul's Girl's School in Hammersmith, just west
of London, which he did for almost of the rest of his life. One of Holst's contemporaries and good
friends was the noted composer Ralph Vaughan Williams. They often wrote letters, exchanging
critiques and ideas. Holst had a wife, Isobel, and a daughter, Imogen.
Holst's most famous work, The Planets, is a seven–movement orchestral suite. Each movement
represents a different planet in our solar system. Since The Planets is a work based on astrology, the
Earth is ignored in the movements. It should also be noted that this piece was also written before
Pluto was discovered, thus it only contains seven movements.
The first movement, Mars, the Bringer of War emphasizes bass and low brass using an unusual 5/4
rhythm. The greatest moment in war–torn Mars comes shortly before the end as the orchestra rises
to a massive climax, supported by organ and gong. It is a moment of sheer terror, transformed into a
still darker terror, as the same two–note motif is repeated in a lower register but still highly
dissonant. This is the first 'spiritual' moment of the work, in my opinion: the wrath of God at the
warring, sinful nature of Man and the consequences of this, as I

Argumentative Essay On Horoscopes
Horoscopes are frequently consulted in day–to–day life. They are "a diagram of the heavens,
showing the relative position of planets and the signs of the zodiac" (Dictionary.com, 2015) that use
the time of a birth to foretell events in a person's life. People have attempted to explain the
seemingly illogical events of life such as: wars; weather abnormalities; economic hardship, and the
link between people's lives to the stars above. This resulted in the making of a "combination of
religion and science – astrology" (Grabianowski. E, 2005). While most people who read daily
horoscopes treat them as nonsense, others use them to guide their lives are more than likely
influenced by them. There has always been an argument about the reliability of horoscopes and
whether people should blindly place their faith in them or not. It needs to be determined whether
astrology should be treated as a "real" science instead of a pseudoscience; whether people should
live by their horoscopes; if different religions have their own way of reading and making
horoscopes; and what people use horoscopes for.

Astrology : A Constant War Between Ancient And Modern...
There is a constant war between ancient and modern methodology. Some people see astrology as
merely a superstition, while others have given scientific reasons behind it. Astrology is spreading
throughout the modern era and has a wider acceptance now more than ever. We see celebrities,
business tycoons, and many everyday citizens wearing stones to either enhance luck or fend off
peril.
It is said in Hindu mythology that when the demon king Bali was killed, gems came out of his body
as a symbol of victory of gods over demons. Diamonds were found from his bones, pearls from his
teeth, ruby from his blood drops, emerald from his gall bladder, blue sapphires from his eyes, lapiz
lazuli from the juice of his heart, cat 's eye from his nails, coral from his flesh, and yellow sapphire
from his skin.
The story continues. From these gems, the sun took away the rubies, the moon picked up the pearls,
Mars took away the coral, Mercury grabbed the emeralds, Jupiter scooped up the yellow sapphire,
Venus took the diamonds, Saturn collected the sapphires, Rahu took away zircon, and Ketu lifted up
the lapis lazuli. The energy from the stones is said to enhance the power of the planets.

Astrologer, John Dee (Alchin). Shakespeare incorporated astrology in all types of ways in the plays
he would write. One of the most known phrases from Shakespeare's plays or just a phrased that is
known in general, "star–crossed lovers" has an astrological origin. The phrase, "star–crossed lovers"
in astrological terms means that the stars or fate are working against the star–crossed pairing of
lovers to be together (Papp). Shakespeare was influenced by astrology and incorporated it in the

The Importance Of Astronomy And Astrology
Since the early Egyptians, people have been trying to read the stars. Have you ever looked at the
stars yourself, and wondered what it all means? Today, most people might know their star sign
according to their birthday. You might have even read a horoscope once or twice. However,
astrology in and of itself is not to be trusted. Astronomy on the other hand, is the actual science used
to encompass our big, endless skies. Astronomy is the study of the universe and its subject matter
outside of Earth's atmosphere, while Astrology endeavors to study how the universe and its contents
(such as constellations and planetary systems), might directly relate to humans and the events
surrounding each person's life. (Temming) Seeing these definitions, we can come to the conclusion
Astronomy should be trusted as it is based on proven science, has numerous scientific implications,
and realistic applications. Astrology however, has no scientific basis and should only be treated as
nothing more than a novelty. The first point on how astronomy should be trusted over astrology is
because the study of astronomy is well respected among the scientific community, and is based on
facts. Astronomy is commonly known by most as the study of constellations and the universe.
Astronomers examine movements, positioning, and the composition of celestial bodies, while basing
their information on research and observation. Nola Taylor Redd gives us a good idea of astronomy

Essay On Copernicus
Nicolaus Copernicus started out as just an ordinary person. In fact, according to today's standards of
intelligence, he was below average. Who knew that Copernicus would later become one of the most
intelligent people in the world. Copernicus changed the way that people during the Renaissance
viewed astronomy. Copernicus changed history as we know it today and if it wasn't for him, today's
astronomers may still be theorizing about the basic facts of our solar system.
Nicolaus Copernicus was born on February 19, 1473 in Poland. His parents, Nicolaus and Barbara,
were leading merchants and parented four children, Copernicus being the youngest. Then, when
Copernicus was around 10 to 12 years old, his father died and his brother, Lucas, took his nephew

These two books taught Copernicus everything he needed to know about astronomy and astrology.
These books also led Copernicus to most of his discoveries and the making of a few books himself
such as "De revolutionibus". In this book, Copernicus described viewing the Moon Eclipse stating it
was, "the brightest star in the eye of the Bull".
Copernicus had only 27 recorded observations in his lifetime though he most likely had more than
that. He viewed eclipses, planets, stars, and much more. That may not seem very impressive today
but, for Copernicus' time period, it was quite a discovery.
Copernicus wrote his book, "De revolutionibus", it was only published the year of his death in 1543.
The reason for his book with priceless information about our solar system to be published so late
was that it was controversial and many other theorists disagreed with Copernicus' claims. It was
only at the year of his death that people realized that Copernicus was

were highly intertwined. Hence the need for scholars who would distinguish between the two, one
such scholar whose work this research expects alludes to is from Al–Biruni. Al–Biruni born in
Khawrazm in Karakaplakstan spent most of his lifetime in the Indian subcontinent and in central
Asia. He was one among distinguished scholars who were associated with the court of King
Mahmoud Ghaznawi, a widely known Muslim king of 11th century. Upon his return from India, Al–

and lunar, solar and planetary motions. In his books he also discusses the fact that the earth rotates
on its own axis and he provides the correct latitudes and longtitudes of a couple of places (Abu

Astrology Vs Astronomy Essay
Astronomy versus Astrology
Astronomy is a science that studies everything outside of the earth's atmosphere, such as planets,
stars, asteroids, galaxies; and the properties and relationships of those spiritual bodies. Astronomers
base their studies on research and observation. Astrology, on the other hand, is the belief that the
positioning of the stars and planets affect the way events occur on earth. If you're interested in the
solar system and the planets, other celestial objects like asteroids and comets, other galaxies and the
rest of the universe, what makes up space, and the possibility of alien life or space travel, astronomy
is the field you're considering. Astronomy is a natural science that studies celestial objects and
phenomena. It applies mathematics, physics, and chemistry, in an effort to explain the origin of
those objects and phenomena and their evolution. Objects of interest include planets, moons, stars,
galaxies, and comets; while the phenomena include supernova explosions, gamma ray bursts, and
cosmic microwave background radiation. More generally, all astronomical phenomena that originate
outside Earth's atmosphere are within the purview of astronomy. A related but distinct subject,
physical cosmology, is concerned with the study of the Universe as a whole.
Astronomy is the oldest of the natural sciences. The early civilizations in recorded history, such as
the Babylonians, Greeks, Indians, Egyptians, Nubians, Iranians, Chinese, and Maya performed

those parts with names of animals, and each is widely associated with a culture of attributing
influence of a person's relationship to the cycle upon their personality and/or events in their life.

An evaluation of what astrology and talisman constitute of should be considered. There are copious
definitions, however cogitating the Oxford Dictionary, it defines astrology as a study of the
movement and relative position of celestial bodies interpreted as having an influence on human
affairs and the natural world. In this manner, astrology is a branch of astronomy, in that it aims to
calculate and understand the movement of the celestial heavenly bodies, however both disciples
differ in their motives. Astronomy seeks to scientifically study these celestial bodies to gain an
understanding of the cosmos. Whereas, astrology seeks the knowledge of what is and what is to be,
through crafting zodiacal readings/horoscopes in a bid to surpass fate and gain an insight into the
untold futures which have yet to unfold. Talisman, with the use of the science of letters (ilm al–

powers, be it on paper or an amulet. A distinction ought to be made between talisman and amulets,

These signs are mostly used as sun signs, which many astrologers use to tell people's horoscope.
People with their sun sign in Aries are said to be active, energetic, and optimistic, but can also get
themselves into bad situations. As the first sign of the Zodiac Arians cannot help putting themselves

Taurus are said to be quiet, patient, and determined, but also antagonizing and stubborn. Taureans

Gemini's are usually characterized as lively, intellectual, and adaptable, but they could be fickle.
Gemini's are widely known for their dual personalities and ability to change mood from moment to

Astrology Influence On Renaissance
Astrology is the use of the relative positions of celestial objects to predict events on Earth. It is an
ancient field of study, having been in use thousands of years before common era. Cultures around
the world had been looking to the skies for forecasts on happenings in their everyday lives long
before Europeans began to do so. In Europe, astrology never established itself as a large influence
on society until the Renaissance came around, mostly due to the strict Catholic principles that bound
people to a particular set of beliefs. Prior to the Renaissance, according to the Encyclopedia of the
Renaissance by Paul F. Grendler, astrology was often "condemned as determinist or unreliable or
irreligious." However, as the Renaissance unfolded, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As a result, it was in most people's best interest to know whatever information the astrologers could
provide. Will the season be wet? Will there be a drought? Astrological signs provided the only
answer. As a result, astrology had an enormous impact on agriculture. In fact, understanding cosmic
phenomena became so important that, according to Renaissance and Reformation by Marshall
Cavendish, it was commonplace for each and every family to own a "farmer's almanac" for each
year, a book that contained basic astrological data and its connections to potential weather patterns
for the coming season. These almanacs were "cheap and hugely popular– hundreds of thousands
were sold each year" (Cavendish 68). For those who wanted a more personalized analysis, a certain
sum of money could be paid for an expert to provide his own instruction. All in all, the alignment of
the stars had a huge influence over Renaissance farmers, who were willing to adjust their practices

Astrological Emptiness in Steve Almond’s “The Problem of...
In Steve Almond's story "The Problem of Human Consumption", it revolves around the theme of
loss, morning, and grief. Almond's story focuses on a widowed father who is passed on to raise his
daughter single handily. The story discussed a day in which feelings of morning and deception are
brought out among the characters. The feelings of loss, morning and grief in this story have greatly
manifested the way this story was written and interpreted. After breaking down Almond's story and
reanalyzing it, it can be determined that through his use of the parallel of astrology (space) mixed
with his way of selective word choice and use of symbolism that he is able to strongly and
effectively support his work.

In one scene, Paul, the father, is holding his deceased wife's wedding ring, which, appears to be
suspended in the air. He talks about it as seeming to be "suspended" and defies the "law of gravity".
When he discovers the ring, it is narrated that, "The hair is looped through the band, actually in a
way that when he holds both ends the ring is suspended. He...the ring is defying the law of gravity"
(Almond 144). Relating back to astrology, objects that are in dimensional space are suspended due
to the properties of space and the "law of gravity". The parallel of astrology that the author use has
to do with "space", that space which is being mirrored would be the void (emptiness, another form
of space) that Paul and Jess have due to the loss they're both facing, the loss of his wife also her
mother. The space in which the suspended ring creates through it, serves as a mirror to the void
which both character face. Symbolically, the void is represented with the dead wife's wedding ring.
Analytically, the ring is missing the space in which it use to occupy. Here again recurs the theme of
"space" relating to the most symbolic object throughout the story, the wedding ring. The author used
this parallel of astrology in order emphases one of the vastest, curiosity striking, mystery to be
discovered, which is space in terms of astrological space, but along paralleling to the space of
emptiness (in terms of loss of a love one). He does this in order to analogously relate it to his

This belief may be partly based off of religion, or just general, scientific skepticism. Astrology, by
definition. is the study of celestial objects and how they influence individual lives on Earth. It all
started about 6,000 years ago, with the Mesopotamian Chaldeans, who sought a way to track the
seasons in order to sort out their sowing, reaping, and hoarding schedules throughout the year. Using
12 constellations, they were able to derive a 354–day calendar based off of the Moon's position in
relation to each constellation. Each time a new constellation was encountered by the Moon, the
following month began. Thousands of years later, the Greeks named these constellations the "circle
of animals," or zodiakos kyklos, presently known as the the "zodiac." Although the Lunar calendar
was primarily effective, the fact that it was 11 days short threw the calendar up to 6–months out–of–
sync within 20 years. The Chaldeans then turned to the planets to form a 365–day, in–sync calendar
(Bakich). When the European Renaissance came about, astrology was commonly viewed as a
common form of divination; people indulged in the constellations and found new ways to interpret
them. European astrologers were widely considered scholars that explored the mysteries of the
universe through science and research, and their influences spread to not only the European
continent, but the Middle East, Asia, Africa, and eventually even the Americas. However, in the 16th
and 17th centuries, during a time known as the "Enlightenment," the Christian religion waged war
on astrology, with Pope Sixtus V officially condemning it, though it continued to be practiced. The
Italian astrologer Jerome Cardan was convicted and held under house arrest by the Catholic
Inquisition under suspicion of violating Sixtus' papal bull. In England,

Tycho began to gain fame as an astronomer after reporting on a "new star" in 1572. Tycho saw a
very bright star in Cassiopeia on November 11th, 1572. He fixed its position with regards to the
other stars in the constellation, and continued to observe it. It began to fade in brightness early the
next year, and was only as bright as Polaris within six months. He also reported on the color
changes, from brilliant white to yellow to red and back to red within that same six months (Hall
274). These careful observations helped springboard his career as an astronomer, and he published
his findings on "De Nova Stella" or "the New Star" in 1574.
His publication also tried to shed light on the astrological implications of this star. Tycho predicted
strong cosmic influences in Scandinavia and a new order in Europe. He also implied that he knew
how to better understand astrology, but made no attempts to either explain this better astrology in
writing or to give any sort of temporal indication for his new order. (Christianson, "Comet 118").
His prominent station in Danish society left him in an awkward situation. He wanted nothing more

Astrology Signs
The astrology signs go in this order: Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Cancer, Leo, Virgo, Libra, Scorpio,
Sagittarius, Capricorn, Aquarius, Pisces. You've probably heard about fire signs, earth signs, air
signs, and water signs. These are the four elements. Twelve signs divided by four elements equals 3
signs per element. If you start with Aries as the first fire sign, then just skip to every 4th sign, you'll
see that the fire signs are Aries, Leo and Sagitarrius. Taurus is the first earth sign, then Virgo and
Capricorn. Gemini is the first air sign, then Libra and Aquarius. Cancer is the first water sign, then
Scorpio and Pisces.
So what does a fire sign mean? These signs tend to burn hard and fast. They start strong and then
can flame out just as quickly as they began. Do you know a person with a Aries, Leo or Sagittarius
Sun? Then you may notice that these people are a little more intensely emotional, whether that be in
happiness or anger. They may likely be more honest. And they may likely be more likely to take
action quickly and with no holds barred. These are generalities, of course. Other planets in a

Art can have several meanings which complicate this claim. Art can be considered "work that is
produced by human creative skill and imagination". This definition of art does not fit with what the
passage is trying to achieve. Therefore it is likely that in this context, the author is referring to "art"
as a skill at doing a specified thing, typically one acquired through practice.
Main Argument and Synopsis
Astrology should be taken more seriously. There are five key reasons that outline the truth of
astrology. First, astrology has been used for over six thousand years and was historically considered
to be more accurate than medical professionals. Several scientific studies have been conducted to
support astrological findings. Several yearly predictions that were made astrologically have been
known to come true with a high success rate. Additionally, astrologers use a twelve–sign system to
analyze individual personality traits, one study on these predictions held a 96% accuracy rate.
Lastly, some psychologists today have taken to using astrology as a diagnosis tool and to treat their
clients. These clients responded positively to their treatment.

Astronomy a Science, Astrology a Pseudo-Science
The word "science" probably brings many different pictures into your mind, some being: a fat
textbook, white lab coats, microscopes, an astronomer looking through a telescope, a naturalist in
the rainforest, Einstein's equations scribbled on a board, the launch of the space shuttle, bubbling
beakers.... All of those images reflect some aspect of science, but none of them provides a full
picture of what science completely is. Science is defined to be the knowledge attained through study
or practice, or knowledge covering general truths of the operation of general laws, especially as
obtained and tested through scientific method and concerned with the physical world.
According to the TOK book, astronomy is considered a science and astrology a pseudo science. Do
you agree? Before I start discussing this statement, we should know what science, pseudo–science
and astronomy, astrology really is. Science is the pursuit and application of knowledge and
understanding of the natural and social world following a systematic methodology based on
evidence. pseudo–science is a concept that is considered to be science but it does not have enough
evidence to go along side with it and prove the concept to be right. Astronomy is a science that
studies everything outside of the earth's atmosphere, such as planets, stars, asteroids, galaxies; and
the properties and relationships of those celestial bodies. Astronomers base their studies on research

between personality traits, astrology, graphology and self–affirmation (Lilienfeld, 2010; Stanovich,
2013). In 2009, Napper et al. published a study that focused on testing the "self–affirmation
manipulation" (p. 45). "Self–affirmation theory" defines issues or situations that present themselves
in a way that causes someone to question and ultimately prove their sense of self worth (Napper et
al., 2009, p. 45). In Napper et al.'s study, participants receive the "self–affirmation manipulation" at
the beginning of the experiment, then the intimidating information and any subsequent reliant
measures (2009, p. 46). In this study, the effects of concluding the "self–affirmation" and control

Grendel's Astrology
Grendel's Astrology John Gardner uses symbolism, imagery, and character placement to weave
astrology into the very fabric of his novel, Grendel. Each of the twelve chapters corresponds to one
of the twelve astrological signs. The author purposely did this and hints to it on page nine with the
quote, "cold mechanics of the stars" (Gardner 9). The stars are the guide to the world and all the
characters in it in this novel. In astrology, Aries is considered a new beginning and, in turn, begins
John Gardner's novel (Heindel 163). This chapter focuses on the cyclical nature of astrology.
According to Grendel, this is the twelfth year of his "idiotic war" (Gardner 5). He notes that this
year will, more than likely, be just like all those ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Unferth is also a symbolic Virgo character. His intentions are heroic. He truly believes in honor and
dying a noble death. Chapter seven is the chapter of Libra. Libra is represented by a set of scales and
is the sign of balance (Heindel 189). Right off the bat, chapter seven begins with "balance is
everything (Gardner 91). Wealtheow is the primary Libra character. She is an instrument of balance
between two kingdoms. Balance is again mentioned in "I hung balance, a creature of two minds; and
one of them said – unreasonable, stubborn as the mountains – that she was beautiful (Gardner 110).
Grendel's feelings towards Wealtheow are balanced between repulsion and amazement. In chapter
eight, we see the emergence of the "sweet scorpion", Hrothulf. "And so – I watch in glee – they take
in Hrothulf; quiet as the moon, sweet scorpion, he sits between their two and cleans his knife"
(Gardner 113). This makes chapter eight the chapter of the Scorpio, symbolized by a scorpion.
Scorpio is ruthless, powerful, and determined (Heindel 208). It seems that Hrothulf is similar to
Scorpio because of his cunningness. He can strike at any time like a scorpion and use violence to
attain power. Chapter nine introduces us to the sign of Sagittarius. Sagittarians are deep thinkers
willing to adventure out into the world to find the true meaning of life. They are also enthusiastic
and spontaneous. The

Three Pseudoscientific Theories That Have Affiliated Evidence
This report will analyse three pseudoscientific theories that have affiliated evidence, though have
not been scientifically proven to be entirely factual. Throughout, the topics of The Paleo Diet,
Lightning never strikes the same place twice and Zodiac Signs make reference to theory as well as
general knowledge gained through personal research whilst providing a plausible adaptation. The
Paleo Diet The Paleo diet is a concept that has had an increase in popularity within the last decade.
Otherwise known as the Caveman or Stone Age diet, it involves the theory that for humans to live a
cleaner and healthier lifestyle, it should be based around a diet that our Palaeolithic ancestors would
have consumed. The diet portion of this ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Particular elements would either thrive or diminish in the different climates therefore making the
modern version of the movement difficult to replicate. Accompanying this, the sources of protein
available now, would not be sufficient in terms of the leanness of the meat available in the Stone
Age. Therefore, the exact diet could either come as no benefit or a breakthrough in subsiding or at
least promoting ways to encourage good health behaviours. The theory behind this ultimately aims
at decreasing the percentage of overweight people and other affiliated health issues. Even after
evolutionary biologists analysed the remains of the "Tyrolean Iceman" (Keller et al., 2012) found in
"Tisenjoch Pass in the Italian part of the Ötztal Alps", evidence of calcification in his major
cardiovascular arteries was found. This is an interesting development as the man was also seen to
have been lactose intolerant. This shows that the Paleo diet that he was consuming did not restrict
the intake of calcium, despite not consuming it in the way modern society does today in the form of
dairy products (Keller et al., 2012). The Paleo diet has recently come into the media with the
publication of the book 'The Paleo Solution by Cordain', an affiliation to the previous released work
targeted at athletes. Within this book, all of the theories behind the paleo diet are explored. By
adapting ones diet to a degree of that from the Palaeolithic era, paleo

Astrology And Greek Mythology

  • 1. Astrology And Greek Mythology ––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––––. Whether astrology is accepted as true has yet to be determined. For centuries, astrology has been used to provide a deeper understanding of nature and identity. Astrology originates from Babylon– developing from the belief that the heavens ruled man's fate. The Babylonians were the first to apply myths to constellations and astrology. The Egyptians refined the Babylonian system of astrology and the Greeks shaped it into its modern form. It was through studyings of Plato, Aristotle and others that Babylonian astrology was introduced to the Greeks in the 4th century B.C.. The Greeks borrowed the occasional component from the Babylonian structure in order to invent their own system. It is the Greeks who ... Regardless of beliefs, the proven validity of astrology seems to have no effect on the impact of astrology. Providing partial reasoning for the popularity of astrology is social media and the ability of networking to reach a large number of people. Courtesy of social media, astrology has been turned into a meme. Astrologist and astrology meme generators collect followers by categorizing signs as literally anything, from cat breeds to hair aesthetics. Despite being turned into a joke by modern technology, prominent figures that have researched astrology with great depth have made a science out of it. Aristotle and Einstein did such and put their thoughts on display for people to adapt as their own. Aristotle stated that "this world is inescapably linked to the motions of the worlds above. • 3. Analysis Of Astrology Is An Age-Old American Fascination... Challenge of the Stars Astrology is usually thought to just be the study of stars and is used to make predictions, but it is much more elaborate than that. Astrology is very often disregarded and not taken seriously because of its lack of scientific validity and explanatory power. Astrology has been dated all the way back to the second millennium of BCE, it is believed that with Astrology we can discover a meaningful relationship between the position of the planets at a particular moment of time and ourselves. Many cultures including the Chinese, Indians, and Mayans have attached importance to astronomical events. It is also usually misunderstood as the worship of stars and that the alignment of stars is what determines fate .Astrology should ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the article "Astrology conflicts with My Christian Faith and Sense of Self" the author, Morgan Jerkins, and editorial assistant for Catapult, an equal rights foundation, argues that astrological signs do not define people and influence their decisions. She demonstrates this by explaining how many times people ask, "What's your sign?" as a conversation starter, but that it should not matter to people what her sign. She goes more in depth by arguing that people should not need to know her sign because they are just going to make assumptions about the type of person she is. Jerkins also explains how astrology is another type of faith, but she does not see a reason to place her hopes in the stars. "But I'm also a practicing Christian, and according to the Book of Deuteronomy, the practice of divination is forbidden" (Jerkins 1). By focusing on how divination is against Christianity, Jerkins overlooks that not everyone follows the same religion. She also fails to realize that several things from the bible are overlooked and disregarded because of its irrelevancy. Therefore, astrology needs to be taken more seriously because it not only brings people joy and peace of mind but also since there really are no negatives and relative claims as to why people should not believe in ... • 5. A Critical Review of the Introduction (pp.xi-xvi) to... Introduction Franz Cumont's introduction in Astrology and Religion Among The Greek and Romans, the Dover 1960 edition of the unabridged and unaltered original work published, by G P Putnam in 1912, is aimed at the general historical and theological audience. On reading Franz Cumont introduction it is obvious he is scathing in his comments towards the practise of astrology. Along with his contempt of the continuing growth in the belief of astrology and how, throughout humankind, intellects, academics and ordinary folk continue to show interest in it.1 It will be argued that Franz Cumont is outdated with his thoughts on the decline of astrology. He makes reference to the scientific discovery of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This was difficult, but it was not impossible. 4 Therefore showing how Cumont's comment; that the planets and their influences made no sense or difference to humanity after this new scientific discovery, can be considered as outdated. Alchemy is a an operation that goes around from cycle to cycle, repeating over and over again to transform and alter us through the experiences of our body, soul, and spirit. In today's society, astrology has been an extremely fascinating belief and study among certain social groups. Many people are used to refer to the daily horoscope in newspapers and popular magazines. However, a large group of scientists and philosophers such as Thagard (1978) consider that astrology is a pseudoscience, but there is a small amount of scientific evidence on whether if it is truly a pseudoscience or not. Some of them discuss that the psychological belief in astrology of oneself is the consequence of his or her desperation in finding solutions to their personal problems such as marriage and career which can somehow affect their life because of its psychological effects (Bennett, 1998). Besides, astrology is considered as an "ancestor" of modern science which is supported by two aspects of discussions (Thomas, 1971). Furthermore, most scientists hold the opinion that astrology can not be trust because it is lack of scientific support. Nevertheless, according to Fitts & Fitzgerald (1977), the fate of one person is determined at some level which is inevitable and inescapable. Moreover, Konstantinides (2004) contradict the idea that constellations are supposed to determine the characteristics of oneself in that everyone is different somehow even for twins. In this paper, I'm going to talk about whether astrology and horoscope predictions are supposed to be accurate. There are a number of people in our society who put some faith in astrology. Astrology is the study of the movements and relative positions of celestial objects as a means for divining information about human affairs and terrestrial events, and horoscope is based on the Ptolemaic system that the earth is stationary, and moves around the sun in fixed patterns. Astrology divides the sky into twelve sections, with the different sign of the zodiac based on the mythological characteristics of the heavenly bodies (Aries, Leo, Aquarius, Cancer, Taurus, Virgo, Libra, Pisces, Sagittarius, Capricorn, Gemini, and Scorpio). And among significations in a family or relationship Ravi (Surya/Sun) denotes the official or socially recognized position for the male spouse. Now Shani is a bitter enemy of Surya (Sun). Hence, between 2004 and 2007 when transit Saturn (Gochara Shani) enters your 3rd house of communication he afflicts natal Guru who sits in your 3rd house. Now according to Jyotish classification natal Guru clearly denotes your spouse. Hence, by virtue of transit Shani's entry into your 3rd house from May 2004 and October 2006, he negatively conjuncts with natal Guru afflicting communication and martial harmony between you and your husband. Note: in the natural zodiac 3rd house denotes communication. And in the Vedic system of significations Guru(Jupiter) denotes spouse in a female's chart. Now in your horoscope 3rd house is also the sign of Cancer or Kataka. And Kataka is ruled by Chandra (Moon). And in Jyotish Moon denotes our mind. Therefore, without a shadow of doubt the entry of Gochara Shani upon the house of communication will inflict his poison upon the mind of the spouses; causing separation and affliction of marriage. Differences Between Nature Vs Nurture Essay Throughout this paper, we will be comparing similarities and differences between our seven members based on the Big Five Inventory test results to our Zodiac sign attributes. Each member of Psychology 101 Group 14 was required to take the OCEAN Big Personality Quiz, and then compare the results to the other members of the team. Then after looking at the results individual members compared their scores to their Zodiac signs to see if they could identify similarities. To begin, while looking at our comparatives scores of the OCEAN Big 5 Personality quizzes, we found that a few group members were similar, although there was many differences in the group too. The ancient Greek philosophers, whatever their intellectual attitudes towards astrology may have been, were certainly not ignorant of astrological teachings and ideas. In 1905, Holst was chosen as the Director of Music at the St. Paul's Girl's School in Hammersmith, just west of London, which he did for almost of the rest of his life. One of Holst's contemporaries and good friends was the noted composer Ralph Vaughan Williams. They often wrote letters, exchanging critiques and ideas. Holst had a wife, Isobel, and a daughter, Imogen. Holst's most famous work, The Planets, is a seven–movement orchestral suite. Each movement represents a different planet in our solar system. Since The Planets is a work based on astrology, the Earth is ignored in the movements. It should also be noted that this piece was also written before Pluto was discovered, thus it only contains seven movements. The first movement, Mars, the Bringer of War emphasizes bass and low brass using an unusual 5/4 rhythm. The greatest moment in war–torn Mars comes shortly before the end as the orchestra rises to a massive climax, supported by organ and gong. It is a moment of sheer terror, transformed into a still darker terror, as the same two–note motif is repeated in a lower register but still highly dissonant. They are "a diagram of the heavens, showing the relative position of planets and the signs of the zodiac" (Dictionary.com, 2015) that use the time of a birth to foretell events in a person's life. People have attempted to explain the seemingly illogical events of life such as: wars; weather abnormalities; economic hardship, and the link between people's lives to the stars above. This resulted in the making of a "combination of religion and science – astrology" (Grabianowski. E, 2005). While most people who read daily horoscopes treat them as nonsense, others use them to guide their lives are more than likely influenced by them. There has always been an argument about the reliability of horoscopes and whether people should blindly place their faith in them or not. • 42. The Importance Of Astronomy And Astrology Since the early Egyptians, people have been trying to read the stars. Have you ever looked at the stars yourself, and wondered what it all means? Today, most people might know their star sign according to their birthday. You might have even read a horoscope once or twice. However, astrology in and of itself is not to be trusted. Astronomy on the other hand, is the actual science used to encompass our big, endless skies. Astronomy is the study of the universe and its subject matter outside of Earth's atmosphere, while Astrology endeavors to study how the universe and its contents (such as constellations and planetary systems), might directly relate to humans and the events surrounding each person's life. (Temming) Seeing these definitions, we can come to the conclusion Astronomy should be trusted as it is based on proven science, has numerous scientific implications, and realistic applications. Astrology however, has no scientific basis and should only be treated as nothing more than a novelty. The first point on how astronomy should be trusted over astrology is because the study of astronomy is well respected among the scientific community, and is based on facts. This was not true in the ancient times as the two were highly intertwined. Hence the need for scholars who would distinguish between the two, one such scholar whose work this research expects alludes to is from Al–Biruni. Al–Biruni born in Khawrazm in Karakaplakstan spent most of his lifetime in the Indian subcontinent and in central Asia. In his books he also discusses the fact that the earth rotates on its own axis and he provides the correct latitudes and longtitudes of a couple of places (Abu 2014). • 48. Astrology Vs Astronomy Essay Astronomy versus Astrology Astronomy is a science that studies everything outside of the earth's atmosphere, such as planets, stars, asteroids, galaxies; and the properties and relationships of those spiritual bodies. Astronomers base their studies on research and observation. Astrology, on the other hand, is the belief that the positioning of the stars and planets affect the way events occur on earth. If you're interested in the solar system and the planets, other celestial objects like asteroids and comets, other galaxies and the rest of the universe, what makes up space, and the possibility of alien life or space travel, astronomy is the field you're considering. Astronomy is a natural science that studies celestial objects and phenomena. It applies mathematics, physics, and chemistry, in an effort to explain the origin of those objects and phenomena and their evolution. Objects of interest include planets, moons, stars, galaxies, and comets; while the phenomena include supernova explosions, gamma ray bursts, and cosmic microwave background radiation. More generally, all astronomical phenomena that originate outside Earth's atmosphere are within the purview of astronomy. A related but distinct subject, physical cosmology, is concerned with the study of the Universe as a whole. Astronomy is the oldest of the natural sciences. It is an ancient field of study, having been in use thousands of years before common era. Cultures around the world had been looking to the skies for forecasts on happenings in their everyday lives long before Europeans began to do so. In Europe, astrology never established itself as a large influence on society until the Renaissance came around, mostly due to the strict Catholic principles that bound people to a particular set of beliefs. These almanacs were "cheap and hugely popular– hundreds of thousands were sold each year" (Cavendish 68). The feelings of loss, morning and grief in this story have greatly manifested the way this story was written and interpreted. When he discovers the ring, it is narrated that, "The hair is looped through the band, actually in a way that when he holds both ends the ring is suspended. He...the ring is defying the law of gravity" (Almond 144). Relating back to astrology, objects that are in dimensional space are suspended due to the properties of space and the "law of gravity". The parallel of astrology that the author use has to do with "space", that space which is being mirrored would be the void (emptiness, another form of space) that Paul and Jess have due to the loss they're both facing, the loss of his wife also her mother. The space in which the suspended ring creates through it, serves as a mirror to the void which both character face. Symbolically, the void is represented with the dead wife's wedding ring. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This belief may be partly based off of religion, or just general, scientific skepticism. Astrology, by definition. is the study of celestial objects and how they influence individual lives on Earth. It all started about 6,000 years ago, with the Mesopotamian Chaldeans, who sought a way to track the seasons in order to sort out their sowing, reaping, and hoarding schedules throughout the year. Using 12 constellations, they were able to derive a 354–day calendar based off of the Moon's position in relation to each constellation. Each time a new constellation was encountered by the Moon, the following month began. Thousands of years later, the Greeks named these constellations the "circle of animals," or zodiakos kyklos, presently known as the the "zodiac." Although the Lunar calendar was primarily effective, the fact that it was 11 days short threw the calendar up to 6–months out–of– sync within 20 years. The Chaldeans then turned to the planets to form a 365–day, in–sync calendar (Bakich). When the European Renaissance came about, astrology was commonly viewed as a common form of divination; people indulged in the constellations and found new ways to interpret them. European astrologers were widely considered scholars that explored the mysteries of the universe through science and research, and their influences spread to not only the European continent, but the Middle East, Asia, Africa, and eventually even the Americas. However, in the 16th and 17th centuries, during a time known as the "Enlightenment," the Christian religion waged war on astrology, with Pope Sixtus V officially condemning it, though it continued to be practiced. The Italian astrologer Jerome Cardan was convicted and held under house arrest by the Catholic Inquisition under suspicion of violating Sixtus' papal bull. In England, ... It began to fade in brightness early the next year, and was only as bright as Polaris within six months. He also reported on the color changes, from brilliant white to yellow to red and back to red within that same six months (Hall 274). These careful observations helped springboard his career as an astronomer, and he published his findings on "De Nova Stella" or "the New Star" in 1574. His publication also tried to shed light on the astrological implications of this star. Tycho predicted strong cosmic influences in Scandinavia and a new order in Europe. He also implied that he knew how to better understand astrology, but made no attempts to either explain this better astrology in writing or to give any sort of temporal indication for his new order. The theory behind this ultimately aims at decreasing the percentage of overweight people and other affiliated health issues. Even after evolutionary biologists analysed the remains of the "Tyrolean Iceman" (Keller et al., 2012) found in "Tisenjoch Pass in the Italian part of the Ötztal Alps", evidence of calcification in his major cardiovascular arteries was found.
