The Absolute Sweet Life Of Nolan Ryan Skurat
The Absolute Sweet Life of Nolan Ryan Skurat. By:Ryan Skurat As a young boy Nolan had always
had a passion for sports. He had played just about all the sports you could think besides lacrosse and
hockey. Those are some pretty sweet sports though. Nolan was very interested in football at a young
age. He had played for mid rivers and played for o 'fallon, these little league teams were pretty good
winning the renegade rumble on both teams. After the years had passed he decided after getting a
knee injury to take a break and look elsewhere in sports and see what he is good at. In 8th grade
Nolan played basketball for a team form st.charles with his buddies Spencer and Alex. The sport
actually came natural and they won second place in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The coaches only gave him a double inning and then it was the next guy in lines turn. Nolan had a
friend named jason and they were best buds. They had done everything together. Nolan had never
played competitive sports and Jason had introduced him to all of the real competition in basketball
and baseball. Nolan was starting out and actually held his own. He had a lot of work to be done
which that came with some money involved. He had played for the stallions and prospects. Each
team costed a pretty penny and his mom had to fit the bill. Jason 's parents did the same but the
difference was about college. Jason wanted to go to play college whereas Nolan didn 't want to make
plans that might not be worth his troubles. When they got into their 8th grade year they had been the
talk of the town. Before their freshman year had started they had gone to some camps to show off
for high school coaches. Nolan and Jason didn 't not let anyone down. Nolan had gone ⅘ and jason
had gone 5/5. It was very neat for the kids and they became workout buddies after. Every day they
had hung out to do some sort of athletic activity. It was mostly baseball. They had played for hours
every day over the summer and when they got tired of that they started playing basketball. They had
played on the same team in sports since 8th grade and unfortunately it came to an end their senior
year. Nolan had been experiencing some pain in his elbow when he was throwing so he

Baseball Vs Softball Essay
What are the Differences Between Baseball and Softball? We all know America loves the sports, but
are they the same? They have lots of the same qualities, but many differences. Some people assume
that softball is the girl version of baseball, but they are totally wrong. Both boys and girls can play
either sport, but usually they are aligned by gender. First, we have the size of the ball. As you may
see, a softball is way bigger than a baseball. This means that softball players use a bigger, wider
glove. Baseballs are also harder, which is why a softball is called a softball. Given that softballs are
softer it makes them harder to hit far into the outfield. Baseballs can hit farther because they are
more tightly wound up. Next, I will be talking about pitching. We all know there is a difference in
the pitching. In baseball the ball is thrown overhand, while in softball the ball is thrown in an
underhand motion. Also, in baseball the pitcher is on an elevated mound to help the ball get into the
box. While in baseball the players pitch farther away, in softball the players pitch closer. On the
field, both are usually diamond shaped and have a dirt infield and a grass outfield. In softball the
distance between the home plate and the outfield is smaller. This makes sense, because it is harder to
hit a softball because of how hollow it is. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In both sports there are innings, but in baseball there are more innings. In baseball there are nine
innings, but in softball there are seven. Also, in both sports you can "steal" a base. This means that
the runner doesn't have to wait for someone to hit the ball, to run to the next base and hopefully not
get touched by the ball. In baseball you can start your lead–off to the next base, before the pitcher
pitches the ball, which can be risky sometimes because they might throw it at the base that you came
from. In softball you can't leave the base until the pitcher pitches the

Softball And Baseball Similarities
Softball vs. Baseball
Softball and baseball are two completely different sports but have many similarities. Baseball and
softball have the same purpose, in general, for playing the game. Both games play to score runs and
to receive the most runs at the end of the game. Though they are playing for the same reason, there
are several differences within that game.
The rules of softball and baseball are easy to compare and contrast because they are so similar.
Some similarities of the two games are; they both have mercy rules and both have a maximum of 9
players on the field at once. There are more differences in the two games then there is similarities.
Softball has a total of 7 innings and baseball has 9. The run rule for each game is different. In
baseball you have to be leading by 10 runs in the end of the 7th inning. The softball run rule is you
have to be leading by 8 runs after the 5th inning. A major difference in the rules of the game is the
style of pitching. Baseball players pitch overhand, while softball players pitch underhand (Beta

A softball bat is considered to be the "Bottle Bat." Diameters of the bats for baseball are usually
around 2 3/4 inches, but softball bats are 2 1/4 inches. The game of softball is played with larger
balls. Baseball are much smaller and denser and have the circumference of 9 inches and are white.
Softball have the circumference of 12 inches and are yellow. For softball, the batting helmets have
face masks attached to the front and baseball helmets don't. Another difference is, most softball
players are required to wear fielding face masks in the field. There are several pieces of equipment
that both sports use. Baseball and softball both use; bats, helmets, mitts, cleats, and balls. Another
similarity is that both baseball and softball bats cannot exceed 34 inches (Beta

While softball can be a complex and intricate game, if explained in detail and broken down properly,
it can be understood even by someone who knows little to nothing about the sport. Let's examine
and break down softball further, by explaining what the bases are and how they function within the
game, as well as breaking down the responsibilities of each defensive position on the field.
In the game of softball, there are a total of four bases that are needed in order to play. As the batter
steps up to bat, right by their feet lays home plate. While home plate is technically considered one of
the bases, it is called "home plate" for obvious reasons. Everything starts at home, just as it does on
your phone or computer. As the batter starts ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There is the infield and outfield. In the infield, there are a total of six positions. Starting right behind
home plate, there is the catcher. Catchers stay in a squatted position, unless a play requires the
player to stand. Catchers are responsible for catching pitches, keeping wild pitches in front of the
plate, calling pitches, and fielding bunts. Catchers are often considered the leaders of the team. They
are the only players with all the other players in front of them on the field. Going from home plate
down to first base, stands the first baseman. The first baseman's position is to the left side of the
diamond when facing home plate. The main job of a first baseman is to receive the throws from the
other infielders, and to possibly field bunts as well. A first baseman gets what is called a "force out."
Next, playing in between first base and second base, is the second baseman. The second baseman's
job is to prevent the ball from going past the area of the infield they stand in. They also are also in
charge of covering second base if the ball is hit to the left side of the field, with a runner on first.
The second baseman also covers first base if a bunt is laid down and the first baseman has to come
forward and field the bunt themself. In between second and third base, stands shortstop. The
shortstop's job is to cover, and field the area that they stand in as well. If the ball is hit to the right
side of the field, they cover second base. This can occur when the ball is in play, or when the runner
is stealing from first to second. They are also in charge of covering third when necessary. Both the
second baseman and the shortstop work together to be the cut off for the outfielders as well. The last
position on the infield is the third baseman. Facing home plate, the third baseman is located in the
right corner. The job of a third baseman is to field the balls in their area of the field, as well as
fielding

Fischer and Pauley. The association brought rules for different age groups because it feels that
softball is a game for all ages. A 12–inch ball is standard with most age groups. The size of the field
varies with age and between fastpitch and slowpitch games. "The pitcher rubber is anywhere from
35 to 50 feet from home plate and the distance between bases ranged from 55 to 65 feet," states
Softball Performance. Fastpitch has caught the most attention. A fastpitch softball pitcher can throw

Essay about The Batter: Short Story
Short Story With over a hundred hours of batting practice this season, Paul planted his feet firmly
against the soft dirt. He took a deep breath and readied himself for the pitch. The ball bolted towards
the strike zone, and Paul started his swing. He swung his bat with perfection. In his head, Paul knew
it would be the best hit of the year. "Strike three!" The umpire hollered. It took Paul all but a second
to realize that he struck out for the tenth consecutive time, and that he caused the Mustangs to lose
the championship game. He walked towards the dugout; his teammates stared at him with grudge.
Sergio stomped towards Paul and shouted, "Why did you swing at that? Are you blind? Now you

See you later looser!"
Paul left the training facility and went back to his hometown. He worried that he might not have the
ability to play baseball again. Insults from Coach Eduardo and Sergio destroyed Paul's passion for
baseball. One day, while walking down the street, Coach McRoy approached Paul and said, "Hey, I
heard that you got cut from the Mustangs."
"Yeah," replied Paul in disappointment.
"Would you like to play baseball again? You've worked so hard. It would be a waste if you gave up
baseball." Memories of baseball filled Paul's mind. He knew that he loved the sport, but was he
willing to take the risk of failure again? "I guess you're right coach, but the season is almost starting
and teams have already drafted their players." "Paul, you don't have to worry about that. I've already
signed you on my team. Come to the team's training center tomorrow at five in the morning, and I
will start training you to become a better player. Welcome to the Thunderbirds." Stepping into a new
training center made Paul feel____. The Thunderbirds' training center looked mediocre compared to
the one the Mustangs had. The training equipments were usable, but well worn out. It seemed as if
no one paid a visit to this building, or the field that was beside it, for a long time. Although the
environment looked rural, Paul ceased to feel disappointed because he could play baseball again.
Coach McRoy made Paul start

Legalizing Prostitution : Home Run Or Strikeout?

Legalizing Prostitution: Home Run or Strikeout?
Worldwide the prostitution industry is worth $186 billion. In the United States the industry is worth
$14.6 billion, and is known as one of the oldest "trades" practiced today. However, since prostitution
is illegal the conditions for the workers are usually horrible, with many of them contracting STDs
and being treated terribly by their bosses. So what would happen if we legalize prostitution? In the
United States, the federal corporate tax is anywhere between 15% to 35% (before Trump's tax policy
goes into place) and the state tax can be anywhere from 0% to 10%. Therefore, the minimum the
government would make ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Sex trade in America is a thriving and growing business, in Atlanta the income from this illegal
misadventure brought in $290 million, while Miami came in second with $235 million and the
nation's capital, Washington D.C., at third with $103 million. The "pimps" who run the sex trade
draw in around $30,000 every week. Alan Dershowitz told the Wall Street Journal, "In this case,
they wiretapped 5,000 phone conversations, intercepted 6,000 emails, used surveillance and
undercover tactics that are more appropriate for trapping terrorists than entrapping Johns," by
legalizing prostitution police forces across the country can save time, money, and effort away from
prostitution crimes and more focus on more serious issues. Prostitution is a product someone would
actually purchase, in a study in 2012 10% of the male population of the United States said that they
have paid to have sex with a prostitute, and in the United States 14.6 billion dollars are spent on the
1 million prostitutes operating. Legalized prostitution can be a source of tax revenue. While brothels
in Nevada pay no state taxes, they pay "significant amounts of tax" to the rural counties where they
do business, according to The New York Times. (Nevada Republicans blocked a plan a couple of
years ago to subject brothels to state taxes, as they didn 't want schools and other state services

Examples Of Hero In Fences By Troy Maxson
Troy Maxson: A Self–Made Hero In August's Play
August Wilson's play "Fences" is a fantastic play with well–crafted characters who successfully
explores different themes in this play to the readers. Among the different characters in this play,
Troy Maxson, the main protagonist in this play carries the day as the hero. August successfully
builds this character throughout the play and ensures that he stands out to be the hero compared to
all the other characters. Through this character, all other characters in this play revolves around him.
The readers experience other characters through Troy, who builds them well and exposes character
traits of most of these characters. He is Rose's husband and father to Cory, Raynell and Lyons. He is
also Gabriel's brother and a longtime colleague and friend Jim Bono.
Troy is an old man aged fifty–three years and works in the department of Sanitation as a garbage
lifter to the trucks of the department. In addition, we learn that he is also a former star in Baseball.
From the first act of this play to the end where he dies, we encounter Troy in his duty as a
hardworking and fancy character. He opposes the racists' attitude towards the slaves and in the end,
he ends up getting a job as a truck ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, his wife always contradicts him with these stories and through them; she wonders of what
to make of this man. Troy justifies his actions of having a secret affair with giving his stories. The
readers make conclusive deduction about his heroic character of getting through trying moments
through his stories. For instance, as the play opens, we encounter Troy telling Bono and Rose of the
struggle he experienced with death or devil. This story is an entertainment to Bono and Rose with an
aim to make him live in fiction world and thus escape harsh judgments on his character from

Tryout Experience Essay
It was a very warm and tense place in the gymnasium of the Alpena High School. A group of
freshman and sophomore baseball players were waiting for the words you wanted to hear which was
"Congratulations" or the not so good news of "Sorry" from the coach deciding if you made the team.
Personally, at the start of baseball tryouts I thought to myself it's going to be a toss up to see if I
would make the team having a 50/50 chance. I was nervous for the most part because there were an
abundace of upperclassman also trying out for the team that were on it last year. There were twenty–
seven people trying out for fifteen spots to play JV baseball. The very beginning first day of tryouts

Now all we had to do was wait for the coach to talk to us one by one letting us know if we made the
team. All the sophomores went first, and when he got done talking to the sophomores it was time for
the freshman to find out. Nobody knew who made it yet and who got cut because after he was done
talking, you would go out through the locker room. So with all of us nervous we let Anthony go first
because we thought if Anthony made it, we had some pretty high chances of making the team. After
Anthony was done, he came up the stairs with a giant smile and a fist pump that got everyone
excited. "Atta boy Berg," we all shouted at once.
I went next with kind of an idea I made it, but I wasn't 100% sure yet so I went in hoping for the
best. "Congratulations Owen you made the team," Coach Myers told me.
That was one of the best things I have ever heard. Immediately after I was done talking to coach the
locker room was a huge pot of gold to me. I was very happy to be on the baseball team with all of
my friends. This was something I can use throughout my entire life by just giving it all you have

Metaphors In The Play Fences
AMO CONCEPT QUESTIONS
DF
1. "Some people build fences to keep people out... and other people built fences to keep people in."
Bono said this to Troy on page 61. This has a much deeper meaning the deeper a reader gets into the
play Fences . On page 57 Cory states " Papa done went up to the school and told coach Zellman I
can't play football no more". Troy, who is Cory's father does this to ultimately protect Cory from
being racial discriminated in the big leagues for football. He wants to keep Cory inside the fence.
Troy and his father never had a good relationship, so of course Troy wants to love Cory, he simply
doesn't know how to show it because he himself never received it.
Later on in the play, Cory and Troy get into a big argument which ... Show more content on

Throughout the book Troy uses baseball as a metaphor for life many times. When Cory strikes out
its because he has made a mistake he should never commit again according to his father. The first
time Cory struck out was when he lied to his father about quitting his job to maintain playing
football after his father specifically told him not too. So Troy tells Cory "I'm gonna tell you what
your mistake was. See... you swung at the ball and didn't hit it. That's strike one. Don't strike out!"
(page 58) Troy is trying to teach Cory not to lie. Troy feels disrespected, so he is enforcing rules
upon Cory. The second time he strikes out is when Cory and Troy get into a physical fight. This time
troy tells him "Alright. That's strike two. You stay away from around me, boy. Don't you strike out."
(page 72) Troy is stunned at the fact that his son physically laid hands on him. But when Cory
finally strikes out, Troy tells him "Go on and get away from around my house" (page 89) Troy was
not going to be disrespected by his own son, so he resorted to just kicking him out. Troy was
attempting to teach Cory to respect, without ever truly showing Cory what respect was. On Cory's
second strike, Troy was found hurting Rose, which in no way was respectful. All Troy ever really
wanted Cory to learn was to live without the help of others, for Cory to pave his own path. On page
39 he tells Rose " He's healthy. he's got to make his own way. I made mine. Aint nobody gonna hold
his hand when he get out there in that world." Troy was a worried father. He didn't want his son to
turn out like him as he explained on page 39. Troy states " I don't want him to be like me !... the only
decent thing that ever happened to me. I wish him that... I decided seventeen years ago that boy
wasn't getting involved in no sports. Not after what they did to me in the sports." Cory felt that the
fact that troy wasn't allowing him to play football was just Troy

Baseball And Softball Comparison Essay
Baseball and softball are very similar in ways and are very different in ways. First the similarities of
baseball and softball. One is the shape of the ball they use to play with. Both of them play using a
round ball that they throw around and try and hit the ball so they can get on base. Second they have
four bases which are first base, second base, third base, and home plate. Whenever someone hits a
ball the player ahead of them runs to the next base unless they are more than one base ahead of the
batter or another player. Third thing that is alike is that they have to hit the ball to get on base unless
the pitcher throws four balls then the batter gets to walk, which is kind–of like a free base. If the
pitcher throws three strikes before throwing four balls, the batter is out. A strike is when the ball gets
thrown directly above the plate and is between the shoulders and the kneecap of that person, and a
ball is when the pitcher throws the ball above or below the strike zone or its not thrown over the
plate. The fourth thing is they use a glove to catch a ball when the ball goes toward or is being
thrown at them. Sometimes when the ball is rolling on the ground people just pick it up with their
hand instead of using the glove so the ball can get to whatever base the ball needs to get to ... Show

In baseball the bases are much farther apart than in softball bases. For baseball the bases from on
bases to the other is 90 feet apart and for softball the bases distance is 60 feet from base to base. The
fourth thing that is different is how the infield looks. In baseball the infield has grass in it with grass
around all the base except the grass stops a little before it gets to first, second, and third base then
there is also grass in the outfield. For softball though the infield has sand instead of grass around the
bases and in the outfield it has grass all around the

Why Is Softball Harder Than Baseball
Have you ever wondered if softball is harder than baseball, or even the other way around? Both
softball and baseball are challenging sports. They have the same basics, and some of the same rules.
They have plenty of things in common, but one is definitely harder than the other. Softball is harder
than baseball because of the size of the bats and balls, the reaction time, and the difference in
pitching. First, you must know the comparison of a softball, a baseball, and both of their bats. A
softball is 12 inches in diameter, and a baseball is 5 inches. Also, a softball is heavier than a
baseball, so therefore it takes a lot more effort to throw and hit. Though, a softball is bigger, it is also
bright yellow, being the same color as the sun. When you're playing softball in midday, while the
sun is beating down hard on your skin, and your eyes, it may be a little harder to see. The diameter
of a softball bat is usually around 2 ¼ inches, but a baseball bat is around 2 ¾ inches (The). The
softball bat may be just a tiny bit smaller than a baseball bat, but when you're playing, it makes a lot
of difference. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Since the softball field is much smaller than a baseball field, you have a lot less reaction time than
you think. The pitching mound is closer to the home plate in a softball field. Therefore, when a pitch
is thrown to the home plate, you have to see the ball and make sure that you have enough time to
swing your bat. Also, while the pitching mound very close to home plate, the pitcher also has to
figure out a way to get the batter out. They could throw curveballs, screwballs, or rise balls. This
gives the batter much less of an advantage at the home plate. With the pitcher throwing these kinds
of balls, the batter still has very little reaction

The Mentality Of Baseball In Fences By August Wilson
August Wilson uses baseball ideology to construct the mindset of his protagonist, Troy Maxson, in
"Fences"; however, Wilson also uses Troy to embody black America in the 50s. The metaphorical
and literal significance of baseball is the driving force Troy's subjectivity and ideology. Whether it
be comparing death to baseball pitch, warning his son to not strikeout, or complaining about being
stuck on first base, Troy uses baseball to explain life to those around him. Ironically, it is baseball
that actually leads to Troy's psychic castration. Although Troy was older when he was released from
prison and playing in the Negro leagues, racism held younger players from competing with white
Americans and there is no doubt that Troy saw this as what held him back as well. Unable to play in
the major leagues bitters Troy's attitude towards life and affects his relationship with his son, Cory,
and wife, Rose. While on a micro level, the rules and mechanics of baseball have a negative impact
on Troy's mentality, on a macro level Troy's loyalty to the game can be seen as an empowering force
for black America in the 50s. The idea of not striking out, and the fetish of the home–run is meant to
represent the black community's resistance against society's racism during this time. Although the
ideology of baseball consumes Troy to the point of his own personal strikeouts, the ideology itself,
and who Troy represents, is suppose to represent black America's fight against a racist

Calico Joe Book Report
As the book Calico Joe by John Grisham progresses, it is reasonable to say Joe Castle goes through
a few very stressful situations. Every second Joe was on the baseball diamond he was put under high
stress because of everyone's high standards for him. Joe may have been even better in the future, but
all because of a dirty pitch his career was over. Joe is robbed of his future career in baseball along
with some of his physical abilities. All because of that one pitch, Joe would never play a game of
baseball again. Not only is he incapable of playing baseball again, but partially paralyzed deeming
him unable to participate in many other every day physical activities. Imagine being a pro baseball

be very scary. One minute Joe was being cheered on to hit a homerun and the next he was lying on
the ground in extreme pain. Joe was determined to get better and come back strong as fast as
possible. Family, friends and fans prayed that Joe would make it back before the Cub's season was
over. People wrote letters to him from all over, every one of them posted in the same spot where
they were collected every day. Joe would later on end up reading each of them when he was
physically able. The saddest part of all was that people didn't know Joe Castle would never again put
on his jersey and play a game. Joe was stripped of his career in a matter of seconds, and there was
no fixing what had happened. Sympathy was established in this situation because Joe's injuries were

Physics Of Softball Essay
In softball there is many physics that can be applied with this athletic sport. For example, whenever
the softball player swings a bat, when the bat makes contact with the ball, pitching the softball,
throwing the softball, how to catch the ball, and the motion of a softball. The weather can cause the
ball not to fly so well when it is cold it makes the ball sink faster than normal. On the other hand,
when it is hot the ball just continuously flies threw the air till something stops it or the ball will just
come to a rest. The softball bats have to have a certain stamp. There are multiple bats that have
different stamps on them. The reason why they have to be stamp is because the ball comes off the
bat to fast. Majority of the bats are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
"The flight of the smoothed ball to the molecules travel behind the ball, is less than the pressure in
front" of the softball. The stitches in the ball cause a turbulence, which has the air to stick to the ball
that reduces lag (Thalmen). "The pitching in softball is an underarm motion." The motion that the
pitchers form is like a windmill. This puts momentum of the weight of the ball into the ball and the
momentum of her body moving forward. There are four main pitches that are thrown. They are a
fastball, a drop ball, a rise ball, a change up, and a curve ball. The fastball is the most commonly
pitch known to man. It is thrown straight, at the strike zone and is thrown at a high velocity. A drop
ball is where the pitcher snaps her wrist a little earlier of the release than usual. This motion puts
topspin on the ball. The rise ball is using a specific hand movement and the release need to be lower.
As she releases the ball she will have to '"Turn the door handle"' (curling fingers into palm). A
change up is and might possibly be the slowest pitch a pitcher will ever throw. When she pitches the
ball she would have to release with the palm down but is thrown like a fastball. The wrist
positioning is a key part in making the ball move to the direction that she wants it. The angle and
rotational of the axis on the ball is greatly changed from the ball being

Compare And Contrast Softball And Baseball Essay

people think softball and baseball are the same sport, but although they are a lot alike they have a lot
of differences. Most people think the only difference between softball and baseball is the gender of
the player, but it's not. Though softball is mainly women and baseball is generally men, there is no
rule anywhere stating that women can't play baseball and men can't play softball. They have so
many more differences than people think. Softball and baseball come from the same origin and are

While on base you can lead off but you have to wait until after the pitch has been released. The
bases are only spread 60 feet apart which is why the pitch has to be released before you can lead off
in softball. The ball is also different, the ball for softball is significantly larger and softer. The bats in
softball are usually thinner and made out of aluminum, while the gloves are larger. The gloves are
larger because the ball is larger. The last thing for softball is the pitching, the pitch itself is
underhand. The pitching mound is on a level surface with the batter and it is also closer to the batter.
Baseball is a similar sport but there are a lot of significant differences. The games last nine innings
and can also go into overtime. On base in the game the runner can lead off at anytime, the reason for
that is the bases are 90 feet apart. The ball is very small and because of that the gloves are smaller.
The bats in baseball are usually made out of wood. The pitching in baseball is odd, the mound is on
a slight hill making the pitching throw downward to hit the strike zone. The players pitch overhand
almost as if to just be throwing the ball. The mound is farther away from the batter in this

glove, bat, helmet, uniforms, protection, ball, field (a green flat surface with sand) and bases. Your
going to need all of this equipment to play, have a fair game, and have fun! Each one is important,
they all have to work together like the human body. They're so important that you need each and
every one or else you can't play.
How to play How you play is your going to need to run really fast. Also, you need to have bases or
you can't score a homerun. When you hit the ball hit it hard so it will go far. When the ball is in your
glove and you caught the ball make sure you close your hand right away so it can stay in the glove.
As you can see, there are multiple ways to play. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One of them is that if you hit or hurt someone, your going to be disqualified. Another rule is that you
have to hit the base to get closer to a homerun. You need to use teamwork because you can't do it by
yourself, because it would be harder. You need to throw the ball underhand or it won't count. You
definitely need a glove because if you don't have it you can't play and if they do then you'll get hurt.
Those are the rules so you'll be safe and get to play the

Cause And Effect Essay On Softball
The object of softball is to score runs by hitting the ball and touching all the bases without being
tagged or thrown out. Softball games last for seven innings. The pitcher will pitch to a batter until
one of four things happens: The batter gets three strikes against him/her. A strike occurs when the
batter swings at a pitch but misses it or hits it foul with less than two strikes against him/her, or
when the pitch passes through the strike zone but the batter does not swing at it. The pitcher throws
four "balls," which are pitches that fail to pass through the strike zone and which are not swung at
by the batter. In this case the batter "walks," meaning he or she is awarded first base. The pitcher
hits the batter with a pitch. In this case, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The batter reaches base safely by virtue of a hit, a fielder's choice, or a fielding error or rarer
occurrences such as catcher's or runner's interference. To get a batter out, a pitcher can record three
strikes against the batter, or a fielder can catch a batted fly–ball in either fair or foul territory before
it hits the ground. If the batter hits a ground ball, he or she will be out at first base if a fielder can
secure the batted ball and throw it to the first baseman who steps on first base before the batter can
do so. To get a runner out, an infielder can tag the runner with the ball or the gloved ball while the
runner is between bases. In the case of a "force out," a runner is forced to advance to the next base
when there is nowhere else for him/her to go, and he or she may be put out by any infielder who
while holding the ball steps on the base before the runner arrives there. In this case the fielder does
not have to tag the runner. A force out commonly occurs when a batter hits the ball to an infielder,
who throws it or runs it to first base before the batter can run there. When a batter hits a fair ball she
may attempt to run as far around the bases as he or she thinks possible without being tagged out by

Softball is an intense game that requires much concentration; Softball is a variant of Baseball played
with a larger ball on a smaller field. It was invented in 1887 in Chicago, America as an indoor game.

In softball hitting is the most important part of the game. A team needs to hit the ball to get on base
and score runs; moreover, hitting brings in the points. First and foremost the player needs to learn
and know how to swing the bat to get a good hit out of a swing. When hitting the ball, hand
placement is different depending on whether the hitter is left or right handed. With that, here are
some steps to hitting a softball correctly giving the player the opportunity to not only get on base,
but possibly score some runs. The first thing a batter wants to make sure is they are gripping the bat
correctly. The hitter wants to make sure to not over grip the bat causing their hands and wrist to be
stiff. When holding the bat if you are right

Process Essay: The Sport Of Softball
Softball is a game of basic mechanics, mental toughness, and a heart for the game. It takes all three
to be a well–rounded player and reach success. If a person fails to have one or more of these, they
will will never have what it takes to make it to the next level. Good mechanics will always equal to
good outcomes. When hitting, a person should keep their eye on the ball at all times. If they do not,
they won't make good contact with the ball resulting in a mediocre hit or even no contact at all.
While playing defense, if someone tries to move too quickly, it will cause their footwork to be off
time with their upper body, consequently turning into a bad throw. Mechanics are extremely
important in the game of softball. The difference between losing and winning a game can come
down to who makes the least or most amount of errors. Mental toughness is having the strength to
make yourself keep going. When your body is saying to quit, your mind is strong enough to fight
back against the physical pain. Softball can take a toll on the body. Games can be long, rough, ...

The one that it all comes down to is whether or not the person has a heart for what they are doing
and competing for. If someone does not care if they fail or succeed, they will more than likely fail
because of their lack of dedication and determination. Without motive or a willingness to do
whatever it takes to succeed, the only option is to fail. For most who play the game of softball, it is
because they fell in love with it at a young age. They fell in love with the way it is played and
respect the rules of it. It starts with a little girl who loves playing in the dirt, learning the game, and

Informative Essay On Softball
When most people think of softball they don't take it as seriously as someone might for baseball, but
softball is just as tough and competitive. The pitchers for both sports have an even tougher time.
Every position is important, but if your pitcher's arm is sore after every game, then it's going to
impact your team. Baseball players are always worried about when their arm will start hurting, and
the pitch count put in place helps so that they don't throw out their arm. Softball is different, in that
there is no pitch count rule. Just because softball players don't put the same stress on their arms
doesn't mean the arm motion they make is a natural movement, because of this, the league should
put into place a certain amount of pitches they can throw. Baseball pitchers throw overhand in a sort
of whipping motion that increases the velocity and how fast they can throw it. With this sort of
movement, it puts a lot of stress on the elbow area causing many young players to get Tommy John's
surgery–where they replace the UCL in the elbow with a tendon taken from your hamstring or ...

similar but in softball the ball is bigger, the bats are larger in diameter, and the pitch is threw

The Importance Of Light Bats
The crowd loves a batter who can hit sixes. If you want to hit the ball as fast and far as possible,
should you use a light or heavy bat? That's an age old question with plenty of answers, but which is
the correct answer? Light bats can be swung faster than heavy bats, but only about 10% faster (for
the usual range of bat weights). Imagine hypothetically that the bat weighs 10 grams – light as a
feather. If you swing it as fast as possible, you might get the tip to travel at say 160 km/hr. Now
double the weight to 20 gm. This time the tip travels at about 159 km/hr. The problem here is that
your arms weigh about 8 kg all up, so the extra 0.01 kg is hardly noticeable. Most of the effort
needed to swing a bat goes into swinging the arms. That's

Process Essay: How To Field The Perfect Ground Ball
Wow! There are so many softball players in this world that wonder how to field the perfect ground
ball. Some girls think it is easy, and there are some that think it is hard. The ones that think it is hard
should follow these steps. In order to field the proper ground ball, a player must have proper
equipment, understand the proper position, and then execute the perfect play. In order to field the
proper ground ball, a player must first have proper equipment. The proper equipment is a glove,
sunglasses, and cleats. The reason a player needs a glove is so he or she can catch the ball. The
players may need sunglasses if they are playing in mid–day when the sun is out so the player can see
when the ball is hit their way. A player needs cleats for good grip for when the player is moving in
the dirt to field a ground ball. The cleats will help the player not slide in the dirt. There is the
equipment you need to field the perfect ground ball. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The proper position is to go to any infield position that would be good for the player. When the
player is at his or her position, the player must then get his or her legs shoulder length apart. This is
important because it gives the player better balance. Then the player must bend her knees a little to
get closer to the ground to field the ground ball. This also improves the players balance and makes it
easier to move toward the ball. Next the players will placer her glove on the ground. That helps the
player field it so the ball doesn't go under the player legs. Last the player will place her other hand
above the glove. That helps the player field the ball in case the ball takes a bad hop so the player
doesn't get hit. The player will execute the perfect play with using the perfect position to field the

Differences Between Baseball And Softball
"Softball is a highly competitive college sport very similar to baseball. With a bigger ball and
underhand pitching, however, there are many noticeable differences between the two sports. (Flom)
Baseball is comparative to softball in the use of bases, pitching mound, and ball. Baseball is
comparative to softball in the use of bases. Little League states, "The distance in all divisions of
baseball for 13–year–olds, is up to 90 feet, with a local league option to shorten the distance to 75
feet for Junior League Baseball and 70 feet for Intermediate Baseball Division for regular season

the ball as far as MLB players can. According to Gordon,"

Pros And Cons Of Running A Softball Essay
When kids play softball they don't know about all of the strategies to play. The first one is learn how
to "set up" batters. When hitting a ball you have to have a plan for every at bat. When you are
running the bases you have to be aggressive. If you are not aggressive you can't run very fast and
you can't go hard. There are three critical skills each softball player should obtain; such as hitting,
playing their position, and maintaining a positive attitude.
Do you want to catch? There can be many techniques to learn, but these are only a few of them. The
first one is to always have a comfortable place to be in the right catching position. The right position
is to have you a good foot position, a good place to put your hand, and be able to ... Show more

The throw down is sort of easy and a bit of hard mixed in. The first thing to remember is to always
is pop up really fast, and then they throw and your arm will follow through. Like i said in the last
paragraph the biggest mistake that catchers make is paying attention on where there runners are.
That is a problem because the throw down involves and catcher and a runner on first base. This next
thing is a bad habit or just a bad thing in general. That is to never pop up too fast or too slow. That
happens when the pitcher sort of hesitated and you kind of pop up, but not in a standing position.
The responsibility of a catcher is very big. The team depends on the pitcher and the catcher. The
catcher has to trust the pitcher and the pitcher has to trust the catcher. if you get scared of how hard
the pitcher throws, maybe the position of the catcher is not for you. Most of the time your coaches
will say that if you say " I can't" it tells your head that you physically can't do it so you don't. The
last thing is you have to be able to trust your teammates to have your your back at all time. Make
sure when catching you always have the responsibility of playing

Free Hamlet Essays: Strikeout Vs. Grief Process
Strikeout vs Grief Process Initially, striking out at the plate is not a beneficial outcome in softball.
Grieving is also not a good feeling, but grief must be let go and a person must move forward in life
to be happy. The grieving process can be similar to striking out. There are four steps to both the
grieving process and striking out. In the play Hamlet, the protagonist (Hamlet) is grieving the death
of his father and should consider these steps to overcome his grief.
First and foremost, in softball the batter steps up to the plate. The pitcher then throws the first pitch.
Once the batter sees that it is a strike, the batter decides not to act, and then the choice is made to
either feel bad for watching it go by, or prepare for the next pitch. Like the first pitch in softball, the
first stage of grief is sadness. This ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
On the way to the dugout, the batter is thinking about how they struck out and how much they wish
they got a hit. Eventually, they realize they have to get over it and cheer on their teammates. In
addition to that, they have to prepare themselves to go back out to the field, show no emotion, and
fix their mistake by trying their hardest no matter what position they are. "You must actively,
consciously choose to focus on what you can change, and accept what you can't change." (Phil,
2014) You cannot change the fact that you struck out, therefore you just need to accept it and move
on. This relates to the fourth step of grief, which is letting go or moving on. When the player returns
to the field and forgets about everything but the next play, they are moving on. In Hamlet, he is
reluctant to move on or let go of his father's death yet. His way of moving on is plotting revenge on
his uncle for murdering his father. Hamlet wants to make sure Claudius, his uncle, suffers for his
actions. Following his revenge, Hamlet will be able to progress with his

baseball, you use the same equipment but different sizes. In softball, there are two different size
balls. One is 11 inches in diameter and the other has a 12 inch diameter. From the time you start

one on in the second, infield singles by junior Payton LeBlanc and sophomore Haley Campbell put

for good. In the third, freshman Erin Lewis was hit by a pitch and advanced to third after a throwing
error allowed junior Cassie Gonzales to reach. After a hit batter loaded the bases, a walk to

  • 5. The Absolute Sweet Life Of Nolan Ryan Skurat The Absolute Sweet Life of Nolan Ryan Skurat. By:Ryan Skurat As a young boy Nolan had always had a passion for sports. He had played just about all the sports you could think besides lacrosse and hockey. Those are some pretty sweet sports though. Nolan was very interested in football at a young age. He had played for mid rivers and played for o 'fallon, these little league teams were pretty good winning the renegade rumble on both teams. After the years had passed he decided after getting a knee injury to take a break and look elsewhere in sports and see what he is good at. In 8th grade Nolan played basketball for a team form st.charles with his buddies Spencer and Alex. The sport actually came natural and they won second place in the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The coaches only gave him a double inning and then it was the next guy in lines turn. Nolan had a friend named jason and they were best buds. They had done everything together. Nolan had never played competitive sports and Jason had introduced him to all of the real competition in basketball and baseball. Nolan was starting out and actually held his own. He had a lot of work to be done which that came with some money involved. He had played for the stallions and prospects. Each team costed a pretty penny and his mom had to fit the bill. Jason 's parents did the same but the difference was about college. Jason wanted to go to play college whereas Nolan didn 't want to make plans that might not be worth his troubles. When they got into their 8th grade year they had been the talk of the town. Before their freshman year had started they had gone to some camps to show off for high school coaches. Nolan and Jason didn 't not let anyone down. Nolan had gone ⅘ and jason had gone 5/5. It was very neat for the kids and they became workout buddies after. Every day they had hung out to do some sort of athletic activity. It was mostly baseball. They had played for hours every day over the summer and when they got tired of that they started playing basketball. They had played on the same team in sports since 8th grade and unfortunately it came to an end their senior year. Nolan had been experiencing some pain in his elbow when he was throwing so he ... • 9. Baseball Vs Softball Essay What are the Differences Between Baseball and Softball? We all know America loves the sports, but are they the same? They have lots of the same qualities, but many differences. Some people assume that softball is the girl version of baseball, but they are totally wrong. Both boys and girls can play either sport, but usually they are aligned by gender. First, we have the size of the ball. As you may see, a softball is way bigger than a baseball. This means that softball players use a bigger, wider glove. Baseballs are also harder, which is why a softball is called a softball. Given that softballs are softer it makes them harder to hit far into the outfield. Baseballs can hit farther because they are more tightly wound up. Next, I will be talking about pitching. We all know there is a difference in the pitching. In baseball the ball is thrown overhand, while in softball the ball is thrown in an underhand motion. Also, in baseball the pitcher is on an elevated mound to help the ball get into the box. While in baseball the players pitch farther away, in softball the players pitch closer. On the field, both are usually diamond shaped and have a dirt infield and a grass outfield. In softball the distance between the home plate and the outfield is smaller. This makes sense, because it is harder to hit a softball because of how hollow it is. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In both sports there are innings, but in baseball there are more innings. In baseball there are nine innings, but in softball there are seven. Also, in both sports you can "steal" a base. This means that the runner doesn't have to wait for someone to hit the ball, to run to the next base and hopefully not get touched by the ball. In baseball you can start your lead–off to the next base, before the pitcher pitches the ball, which can be risky sometimes because they might throw it at the base that you came from. In softball you can't leave the base until the pitcher pitches the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 13. Softball And Baseball Similarities Softball vs. Baseball Softball and baseball are two completely different sports but have many similarities. Baseball and softball have the same purpose, in general, for playing the game. Both games play to score runs and to receive the most runs at the end of the game. Though they are playing for the same reason, there are several differences within that game. The rules of softball and baseball are easy to compare and contrast because they are so similar. Some similarities of the two games are; they both have mercy rules and both have a maximum of 9 players on the field at once. There are more differences in the two games then there is similarities. Softball has a total of 7 innings and baseball has 9. The run rule for each game is different. In baseball you have to be leading by 10 runs in the end of the 7th inning. The softball run rule is you have to be leading by 8 runs after the 5th inning. A major difference in the rules of the game is the style of pitching. Baseball players pitch overhand, while softball players pitch underhand (Beta Softball). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A softball bat is considered to be the "Bottle Bat." Diameters of the bats for baseball are usually around 2 3/4 inches, but softball bats are 2 1/4 inches. The game of softball is played with larger balls. • 17. Softball Research Paper While softball can be a complex and intricate game, if explained in detail and broken down properly, it can be understood even by someone who knows little to nothing about the sport. Let's examine and break down softball further, by explaining what the bases are and how they function within the game, as well as breaking down the responsibilities of each defensive position on the field. In the game of softball, there are a total of four bases that are needed in order to play. As the batter steps up to bat, right by their feet lays home plate. While home plate is technically considered one of the bases, it is called "home plate" for obvious reasons. Everything starts at home, just as it does on your phone or computer. As the batter starts ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There is the infield and outfield. In the infield, there are a total of six positions. Starting right behind home plate, there is the catcher. Catchers stay in a squatted position, unless a play requires the player to stand. Catchers are responsible for catching pitches, keeping wild pitches in front of the plate, calling pitches, and fielding bunts. Catchers are often considered the leaders of the team. They are the only players with all the other players in front of them on the field. Going from home plate down to first base, stands the first baseman. The first baseman's position is to the left side of the diamond when facing home plate. The main job of a first baseman is to receive the throws from the other infielders, and to possibly field bunts as well. A first baseman gets what is called a "force out." Next, playing in between first base and second base, is the second baseman. The second baseman's job is to prevent the ball from going past the area of the infield they stand in. They also are also in charge of covering second base if the ball is hit to the left side of the field, with a runner on first. The second baseman also covers first base if a bunt is laid down and the first baseman has to come forward and field the bunt themself. In between second and third base, stands shortstop. The shortstop's job is to cover, and field the area that they stand in as well. If the ball is hit to the right side of the field, they cover second base. This can occur when the ball is in play, or when the runner is stealing from first to second. They are also in charge of covering third when necessary. Both the second baseman and the shortstop work together to be the cut off for the outfielders as well. The last position on the infield is the third baseman. Facing home plate, the third baseman is located in the right corner. The job of a third baseman is to field the balls in their area of the field, as well as fielding ... A 12–inch ball is standard with most age groups. The size of the field varies with age and between fastpitch and slowpitch games. "The pitcher rubber is anywhere from 35 to 50 feet from home plate and the distance between bases ranged from 55 to 65 feet," states Softball Performance. Fastpitch has caught the most attention. A fastpitch softball pitcher can throw the ball to the home plate at speeds equal to those of major league baseball pitchers. • 25. Essay about The Batter: Short Story Short Story With over a hundred hours of batting practice this season, Paul planted his feet firmly against the soft dirt. He took a deep breath and readied himself for the pitch. The ball bolted towards the strike zone, and Paul started his swing. He swung his bat with perfection. In his head, Paul knew it would be the best hit of the year. "Strike three!" The umpire hollered. It took Paul all but a second to realize that he struck out for the tenth consecutive time, and that he caused the Mustangs to lose the championship game. He walked towards the dugout; his teammates stared at him with grudge. Sergio stomped towards Paul and shouted, "Why did you swing at that? Are you blind? Now you made us lose the most ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... See you later looser!" Paul left the training facility and went back to his hometown. He worried that he might not have the ability to play baseball again. Insults from Coach Eduardo and Sergio destroyed Paul's passion for baseball. One day, while walking down the street, Coach McRoy approached Paul and said, "Hey, I heard that you got cut from the Mustangs." "Yeah," replied Paul in disappointment. "Would you like to play baseball again? You've worked so hard. It would be a waste if you gave up baseball." Memories of baseball filled Paul's mind. He knew that he loved the sport, but was he willing to take the risk of failure again? "I guess you're right coach, but the season is almost starting and teams have already drafted their players." "Paul, you don't have to worry about that. I've already signed you on my team. Come to the team's training center tomorrow at five in the morning, and I will start training you to become a better player. Welcome to the Thunderbirds." Stepping into a new training center made Paul feel____. The Thunderbirds' training center looked mediocre compared to the one the Mustangs had. The training equipments were usable, but well worn out. It seemed as if no one paid a visit to this building, or the field that was beside it, for a long time. Although the environment looked rural, Paul ceased to feel disappointed because he could play baseball again. Coach McRoy made Paul start ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Worldwide the prostitution industry is worth $186 billion. In the United States the industry is worth $14.6 billion, and is known as one of the oldest "trades" practiced today. However, since prostitution is illegal the conditions for the workers are usually horrible, with many of them contracting STDs and being treated terribly by their bosses. So what would happen if we legalize prostitution? Therefore, the minimum the government would make ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Sex trade in America is a thriving and growing business, in Atlanta the income from this illegal misadventure brought in $290 million, while Miami came in second with $235 million and the nation's capital, Washington D.C., at third with $103 million. The "pimps" who run the sex trade draw in around $30,000 every week. Alan Dershowitz told the Wall Street Journal, "In this case, they wiretapped 5,000 phone conversations, intercepted 6,000 emails, used surveillance and undercover tactics that are more appropriate for trapping terrorists than entrapping Johns," by legalizing prostitution police forces across the country can save time, money, and effort away from prostitution crimes and more focus on more serious issues. Prostitution is a product someone would actually purchase, in a study in 2012 10% of the male population of the United States said that they have paid to have sex with a prostitute, and in the United States 14.6 billion dollars are spent on the 1 million prostitutes operating. Legalized prostitution can be a source of tax revenue. • 37. Tryout Experience Essay It was a very warm and tense place in the gymnasium of the Alpena High School. A group of freshman and sophomore baseball players were waiting for the words you wanted to hear which was "Congratulations" or the not so good news of "Sorry" from the coach deciding if you made the team. Personally, at the start of baseball tryouts I thought to myself it's going to be a toss up to see if I would make the team having a 50/50 chance. I was nervous for the most part because there were an abundace of upperclassman also trying out for the team that were on it last year. There were twenty– seven people trying out for fifteen spots to play JV baseball. The very beginning first day of tryouts was a different experience than what I have been playing which ... All the sophomores went first, and when he got done talking to the sophomores it was time for the freshman to find out. Nobody knew who made it yet and who got cut because after he was done talking, you would go out through the locker room. So with all of us nervous we let Anthony go first because we thought if Anthony made it, we had some pretty high chances of making the team. After Anthony was done, he came up the stairs with a giant smile and a fist pump that got everyone excited. "Atta boy Berg," we all shouted at once. I went next with kind of an idea I made it, but I wasn't 100% sure yet so I went in hoping for the best. "Congratulations Owen you made the team," Coach Myers told me. That was one of the best things I have ever heard. Immediately after I was done talking to coach the locker room was a huge pot of gold to me. I was very happy to be on the baseball team with all of my friends. This was something I can use throughout my entire life by just giving it all you have every second of your life and to never take things for granted. This is an experience that I will never ... This has a much deeper meaning the deeper a reader gets into the play Fences . On page 57 Cory states " Papa done went up to the school and told coach Zellman I can't play football no more". Troy, who is Cory's father does this to ultimately protect Cory from being racial discriminated in the big leagues for football. He wants to keep Cory inside the fence. Troy and his father never had a good relationship, so of course Troy wants to love Cory, he simply doesn't know how to show it because he himself never received it. Later on in the play, Cory and Troy get into a big argument which ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Throughout the book Troy uses baseball as a metaphor for life many times. When Cory strikes out its because he has made a mistake he should never commit again according to his father. The first time Cory struck out was when he lied to his father about quitting his job to maintain playing football after his father specifically told him not too. So Troy tells Cory "I'm gonna tell you what your mistake was. See... you swung at the ball and didn't hit it. That's strike one. Don't strike out!" (page 58) Troy is trying to teach Cory not to lie. Troy feels disrespected, so he is enforcing rules upon Cory. The second time he strikes out is when Cory and Troy get into a physical fight. This time troy tells him "Alright. That's strike two. You stay away from around me, boy. Don't you strike out." (page 72) Troy is stunned at the fact that his son physically laid hands on him. But when Cory finally strikes out, Troy tells him "Go on and get away from around my house" (page 89) Troy was not going to be disrespected by his own son, so he resorted to just kicking him out. Troy was attempting to teach Cory to respect, without ever truly showing Cory what respect was. On Cory's second strike, Troy was found hurting Rose, which in no way was respectful. All Troy ever really wanted Cory to learn was to live without the help of others, for Cory to pave his own path. On page 39 he tells Rose " He's healthy. he's got to make his own way. I made mine. Aint nobody gonna hold his hand when he get out there in that world." Troy was a worried father. He didn't want his son to turn out like him as he explained on page 39. Troy states " I don't want him to be like me !... the only decent thing that ever happened to me. I wish him that... I decided seventeen years ago that boy wasn't getting involved in no sports. • 45. Baseball And Softball Comparison Essay Baseball and softball are very similar in ways and are very different in ways. First the similarities of baseball and softball. One is the shape of the ball they use to play with. Both of them play using a round ball that they throw around and try and hit the ball so they can get on base. Second they have four bases which are first base, second base, third base, and home plate. Whenever someone hits a ball the player ahead of them runs to the next base unless they are more than one base ahead of the batter or another player. Third thing that is alike is that they have to hit the ball to get on base unless the pitcher throws four balls then the batter gets to walk, which is kind–of like a free base. If the pitcher throws three strikes before throwing four balls, the batter is out. A strike is when the ball gets thrown directly above the plate and is between the shoulders and the kneecap of that person, and a ball is when the pitcher throws the ball above or below the strike zone or its not thrown over the plate. The fourth thing is they use a glove to catch a ball when the ball goes toward or is being thrown at them. Sometimes when the ball is rolling on the ground people just pick it up with their hand instead of using the glove so the ball can get to whatever base the ball needs to get to ... • 49. Why Is Softball Harder Than Baseball Have you ever wondered if softball is harder than baseball, or even the other way around? Both softball and baseball are challenging sports. They have the same basics, and some of the same rules. They have plenty of things in common, but one is definitely harder than the other. Softball is harder than baseball because of the size of the bats and balls, the reaction time, and the difference in pitching. First, you must know the comparison of a softball, a baseball, and both of their bats. A softball is 12 inches in diameter, and a baseball is 5 inches. Also, a softball is heavier than a baseball, so therefore it takes a lot more effort to throw and hit. Though, a softball is bigger, it is also bright yellow, being the same color as the sun. When you're playing softball in midday, while the sun is beating down hard on your skin, and your eyes, it may be a little harder to see. The diameter of a softball bat is usually around 2 ¼ inches, but a baseball bat is around 2 ¾ inches (The). The softball bat may be just a tiny bit smaller than a baseball bat, but when you're playing, it makes a lot of difference. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Since the softball field is much smaller than a baseball field, you have a lot less reaction time than you think. The pitching mound is closer to the home plate in a softball field. Therefore, when a pitch is thrown to the home plate, you have to see the ball and make sure that you have enough time to swing your bat. Also, while the pitching mound very close to home plate, the pitcher also has to figure out a way to get the batter out. They could throw curveballs, screwballs, or rise balls. This gives the batter much less of an advantage at the home plate. With the pitcher throwing these kinds of balls, the batter still has very little reaction ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 53. The Mentality Of Baseball In Fences By August Wilson August Wilson uses baseball ideology to construct the mindset of his protagonist, Troy Maxson, in "Fences"; however, Wilson also uses Troy to embody black America in the 50s. The metaphorical and literal significance of baseball is the driving force Troy's subjectivity and ideology. Whether it be comparing death to baseball pitch, warning his son to not strikeout, or complaining about being stuck on first base, Troy uses baseball to explain life to those around him. Ironically, it is baseball that actually leads to Troy's psychic castration. Although Troy was older when he was released from prison and playing in the Negro leagues, racism held younger players from competing with white Americans and there is no doubt that Troy saw this as what held him back as well. Unable to play in the major leagues bitters Troy's attitude towards life and affects his relationship with his son, Cory, and wife, Rose. While on a micro level, the rules and mechanics of baseball have a negative impact on Troy's mentality, on a macro level Troy's loyalty to the game can be seen as an empowering force for black America in the 50s. The idea of not striking out, and the fetish of the home–run is meant to represent the black community's resistance against society's racism during this time. Although the ideology of baseball consumes Troy to the point of his own personal strikeouts, the ideology itself, and who Troy represents, is suppose to represent black America's fight against a racist ... For example, whenever the softball player swings a bat, when the bat makes contact with the ball, pitching the softball, throwing the softball, how to catch the ball, and the motion of a softball. The weather can cause the ball not to fly so well when it is cold it makes the ball sink faster than normal. On the other hand, when it is hot the ball just continuously flies threw the air till something stops it or the ball will just come to a rest. The softball bats have to have a certain stamp. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... "The flight of the smoothed ball to the molecules travel behind the ball, is less than the pressure in front" of the softball. The stitches in the ball cause a turbulence, which has the air to stick to the ball that reduces lag (Thalmen). "The pitching in softball is an underarm motion." The motion that the pitchers form is like a windmill. This puts momentum of the weight of the ball into the ball and the momentum of her body moving forward. There are four main pitches that are thrown. They are a fastball, a drop ball, a rise ball, a change up, and a curve ball. The fastball is the most commonly pitch known to man. It is thrown straight, at the strike zone and is thrown at a high velocity. A drop ball is where the pitcher snaps her wrist a little earlier of the release than usual. This motion puts topspin on the ball. The rise ball is using a specific hand movement and the release need to be lower. As she releases the ball she will have to '"Turn the door handle"' (curling fingers into palm). A change up is and might possibly be the slowest pitch a pitcher will ever throw. When she pitches the ball she would have to release with the palm down but is thrown like a fastball. The wrist positioning is a key part in making the ball move to the direction that she wants it. The bases are only spread 60 feet apart which is why the pitch has to be released before you can lead off in softball. The gloves are larger because the ball is larger. The last thing for softball is the pitching, the pitch itself is underhand. The pitching mound is on a level surface with the batter and it is also closer to the batter. Baseball is a similar sport but there are a lot of significant differences. The games last nine innings and can also go into overtime. On base in the game the runner can lead off at anytime, the reason for that is the bases are 90 feet apart. Softball games last for seven innings. The pitcher will pitch to a batter until one of four things happens: The batter gets three strikes against him/her. A strike occurs when the batter swings at a pitch but misses it or hits it foul with less than two strikes against him/her, or when the pitch passes through the strike zone but the batter does not swing at it. The pitcher throws four "balls," which are pitches that fail to pass through the strike zone and which are not swung at by the batter. The batter reaches base safely by virtue of a hit, a fielder's choice, or a fielding error or rarer occurrences such as catcher's or runner's interference. To get a batter out, a pitcher can record three strikes against the batter, or a fielder can catch a batted fly–ball in either fair or foul territory before it hits the ground. If the batter hits a ground ball, he or she will be out at first base if a fielder can secure the batted ball and throw it to the first baseman who steps on first base before the batter can do so. To get a runner out, an infielder can tag the runner with the ball or the gloved ball while the runner is between bases. In the case of a "force out," a runner is forced to advance to the next base when there is nowhere else for him/her to go, and he or she may be put out by any infielder who while holding the ball steps on the base before the runner arrives there. In this case the fielder does not have to tag the runner. A force out commonly occurs when a batter hits the ball to an infielder, who throws it or runs it to first base before the batter can run there. If a person fails to have one or more of these, they will will never have what it takes to make it to the next level. Good mechanics will always equal to good outcomes. When hitting, a person should keep their eye on the ball at all times. If they do not, they won't make good contact with the ball resulting in a mediocre hit or even no contact at all. While playing defense, if someone tries to move too quickly, it will cause their footwork to be off time with their upper body, consequently turning into a bad throw. Mechanics are extremely important in the game of softball. The difference between losing and winning a game can come down to who makes the least or most amount of errors. The pitchers for both sports have an even tougher time. Every position is important, but if your pitcher's arm is sore after every game, then it's going to impact your team. Baseball players are always worried about when their arm will start hurting, and the pitch count put in place helps so that they don't throw out their arm. Softball is different, in that there is no pitch count rule. Just because softball players don't put the same stress on their arms doesn't mean the arm motion they make is a natural movement, because of this, the league should put into place a certain amount of pitches they can throw. Baseball pitchers throw overhand in a sort of whipping motion that increases the velocity and how fast they can throw it. That's an age old question with plenty of answers, but which is the correct answer? Light bats can be swung faster than heavy bats, but only about 10% faster (for the usual range of bat weights). Imagine hypothetically that the bat weighs 10 grams – light as a feather. If you swing it as fast as possible, you might get the tip to travel at say 160 km/hr. Now double the weight to 20 gm. This time the tip travels at about 159 km/hr. The problem here is that your arms weigh about 8 kg all up, so the extra 0.01 kg is hardly noticeable. Most of the effort needed to swing a bat goes into swinging the arms. That's ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

When the player is at his or her position, the player must then get his or her legs shoulder length apart. This is important because it gives the player better balance. Then the player must bend her knees a little to get closer to the ground to field the ground ball. This also improves the players balance and makes it easier to move toward the ball. Next the players will placer her glove on the ground. That helps the player field it so the ball doesn't go under the player legs. Last the player will place her other hand above the glove. That helps the player field the ball in case the ball takes a bad hop so the player doesn't get hit. The player will execute the perfect play with using the perfect position to field the ground ... With a bigger ball and underhand pitching, however, there are many noticeable differences between the two sports. (Flom) Baseball is comparative to softball in the use of bases, pitching mound, and ball. Baseball is comparative to softball in the use of bases. Little League states, "The distance in all divisions of baseball for 13–year–olds, is up to 90 feet, with a local league option to shorten the distance to 75 feet for Junior League Baseball and 70 feet for Intermediate Baseball Division for regular season play" (Field Specifications). • 117. Pros And Cons Of Running A Softball Essay When kids play softball they don't know about all of the strategies to play. The first one is learn how to "set up" batters. When hitting a ball you have to have a plan for every at bat. When you are running the bases you have to be aggressive. If you are not aggressive you can't run very fast and you can't go hard. There are three critical skills each softball player should obtain; such as hitting, playing their position, and maintaining a positive attitude. Do you want to catch? There can be many techniques to learn, but these are only a few of them. The first one is to always have a comfortable place to be in the right catching position. The right position is to have you a good foot position, a good place to put your hand, and be able to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The throw down is sort of easy and a bit of hard mixed in. The first thing to remember is to always is pop up really fast, and then they throw and your arm will follow through. Like i said in the last paragraph the biggest mistake that catchers make is paying attention on where there runners are. That is a problem because the throw down involves and catcher and a runner on first base. This next thing is a bad habit or just a bad thing in general. That is to never pop up too fast or too slow. That happens when the pitcher sort of hesitated and you kind of pop up, but not in a standing position. The responsibility of a catcher is very big. The team depends on the pitcher and the catcher. The catcher has to trust the pitcher and the pitcher has to trust the catcher. if you get scared of how hard the pitcher throws, maybe the position of the catcher is not for you. Most of the time your coaches will say that if you say " I can't" it tells your head that you physically can't do it so you don't. The last thing is you have to be able to trust your teammates to have your your back at all time. Make sure when catching you always have the responsibility of playing ... • 121. Free Hamlet Essays: Strikeout Vs. Grief Process Strikeout vs Grief Process Initially, striking out at the plate is not a beneficial outcome in softball. Grieving is also not a good feeling, but grief must be let go and a person must move forward in life to be happy. The grieving process can be similar to striking out. There are four steps to both the grieving process and striking out. In the play Hamlet, the protagonist (Hamlet) is grieving the death of his father and should consider these steps to overcome his grief. First and foremost, in softball the batter steps up to the plate. The pitcher then throws the first pitch. Once the batter sees that it is a strike, the batter decides not to act, and then the choice is made to either feel bad for watching it go by, or prepare for the next pitch. Like the first pitch in softball, the first stage of grief is sadness. This ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... On the way to the dugout, the batter is thinking about how they struck out and how much they wish they got a hit. Eventually, they realize they have to get over it and cheer on their teammates. In addition to that, they have to prepare themselves to go back out to the field, show no emotion, and fix their mistake by trying their hardest no matter what position they are. "You must actively, consciously choose to focus on what you can change, and accept what you can't change." (Phil, 2014) You cannot change the fact that you struck out, therefore you just need to accept it and move on. This relates to the fourth step of grief, which is letting go or moving on. When the player returns to the field and forgets about everything but the next play, they are moving on. In Hamlet, he is reluctant to move on or let go of his father's death yet. His way of moving on is plotting revenge on his uncle for murdering his father. Hamlet wants to make sure Claudius, his uncle, suffers for his actions. ( Jennie Finch.) Softball is a modified version of baseball, using a smaller field and bigger ball. Instead of nine innings there's seven and in softball you pitch underhand rather than overhand. Something was different that I noticed was some players ran through the left side of the box while batting. That's something that would make me unique, and I knew that this is something that I wanted to learn how to do. I asked my coach if I could learn how to slap and if it was the best thing for me to learn at the time. He explained how to bat like that to me, and gave me the confidence that I could do it.
