1. 1. A game is a competition between two opposing teams. The game that is being played in
the stadium below us is called baseball. The game of baseball is played by two teams who
take turns batting and playing in the field. A baseball field is in the shape of a diamond
and has an infield and an outfield. Within the infield there is usually sand or clay and
there are four bases, home base, first base, second base, and third base. The outfield
consists of grass. The team that is playing in the field has nine players spread thought out
the field in specific positions. Six players are located in the infield and three players are
located in the outfield. The players that are in the infield are the pitcher who stands on a
mound in the center of the four bases, the catcher who is behind home base, the first
baseman, second baseman, third baseman, and the shortstop who stands between the
second and third base. The three players that are in the outfield are located in the left,
right, and center part of the outfield. The team who is batting sends a players to the home
plate with a bat. The pitcher then throws a small white ball with red stitching toward the
player with the bat. The player with the bat then tries to hit the ball. If the player who is
batting does not hit the ball, the catcher catches the ball. If the batting player hits the ball,
they then run to first base.
2. Female players do not normally play baseball. They normally play softball. Softball is
similar to baseball, but the ball is slightly larger.
3. Others get passionate about the game because it is a form of entertainment. It is also a
form of friendly competition that has been taking place for several decades.
4. A team is a group of people work together to accomplish a common task. Teams can
consist of only males, only females, or a combination of both. In this case, each team is
working together to score points and win the baseball game.
5. The people in the seats, commonly known as fans, are not allowed to enter the field and
play the game with the two teams. If they do enter the field they are seen as a threat to the
baseball players and everyone in the stadium. The fans are there to watch the game and
enjoy themselves.
