1. Explain in detail all types of shallow foundations with good figure
2. How would you fixthe depth of foundation?
3. Discuss the Rankin’s formula for minimum depth

6. Where do you provide combined footing? Describe the procedure fordesign of combined
footing.

Assignment No.2- shallow foundation (problems)
1. Design an isolated box type footing for given data:
Superimposed load on footing- 600kN, Size of column- 300mm x 300 mm, SBC of Soil-
150kN/sq.m., Consider M20|Fe415 grades.
2. Design an isolated stepped type footingfor given data:
Superimposed load on footing- 800kN, Size of column- 250mm x 400 mm, SBC of Soil-
250kN/sq.m., Consider M20|Fe415 grades.
3. Design an isolated slopped(trapezoidal) type footingfor given data:
Superimposed load on footing- 1200kN, Size of column- 400mm x 400 mm, SBC of Soil-
300kN/sq.m., Consider M25|Fe415 grades.
4. Design rectangular combined footing forgiven data:
P1= 900KN, P2=900KN, c/c distance between each column – 2.75m, Size of each column-
350mm x 350 mm, SBC of Soil- 225kN/sq.m., Consider M20|Fe415 grades.
5. Design trapezoidal combined footing forgiven data:
P1= 750KN, P2=1000KN, c/c distance between each column – 2.9m, Size of column- 300mm
x 300 mm & 350mm x350mm, SBC of Soil- 255kN/sq.m., Consider M20|Fe415 grades.
6. Design cantilever type(strap) combined footing forgiven data:
P1= 900KN, P2=900KN, c/c distance between each column – 3.5m, Size of each column-
400mm x 400 mm, SBC of Soil- 300kN/sq.m., Consider M25|Fe415 grades.

Assignment No.3-Raft Foundation
1. Write short note on
a. types of raft
b. IS code method of design of raft
2. Design a raft foundation for six columns A, B, C, D, E and F each of size 350mm x 350mm. the
coordinates of center of columns are A(0,0), B(6m,0), C(12,0), D(0,6), E(6,6), F(12,6m) the
load on each interior column B and E is 1500KN and on exterior columns A, C, D and F is
1000KN. The SBC of Soil is 100KN/sq.m.. Use M20|Fe415 grades.
3. Design a raft foundation for six columns A, B, C, D, E and F each of size 300mm x 300mm. the
coordinates of center of columns are A(0,0), B(5m,0), C(10,0), D(0,6), E(5,5), F(10,5m) the
load on each interior column B and E is 1200KN and on exterior columns A, C, D and F is
900KN. The SBC of Soil is 125KN/sq.m.. Use M20|Fe415 grades.
Assignment No.4- Machine Foundation
1. What is the permissible amplitude of vibration for different types of machine foundation?
2. Explain importance of foundation for reciprocating machine.
3. Explain different type of foundations subjected to vibrations.
4. Write Short notes on
a. Calculation of induced forces and moments in multi cylinderengines
b. Design criteria for foundations of reciprocating machines
c. Design Procedurefor blockfoundation ( reciprocating machines- cyclic loading)

5. What are the different types and uses of sheet pile walls? Explain in detail.
6. Explain method of design of cantilever sheet pile walls for cohesive soils.
7. Explain method of design of cantilever sheet pile walls for cohesion less soils.
8. Explain in detail the method of design of anchored bulk head by fixed earth method for
cohesion less soils.
9. Explain in detail the method of design of anchored bulk head by fixed earth method for

2. Explain in detail the construction of under reamed pile foundation with good figures
Assignment No.8- Deep foundation (Problems)
1. Design a square pile group to carry 400KN in clay with unconfined compression strength of
60KN/sq.m. the piles are 300mm in diameter and 6m long. take adhesion factor as 0.60.
2. in a 16 piles group, the pile diameter is 45cm and center spacing of square group is 1.5m if C
= 50 kN/sq.m determine whether the failure would occur with pile acting individually or as
a group? Neglect bearing at the tip of the pile. all the piles are 10m long. take m=0.7, for
shear mobilization around the each pile.
3. Design a square pile group to carry 750KN in clay with unconfined compression strength of
55KN/sq.m. the piles are 350mm in diameter and 7.5m long. take adhesion factor as 0.60.
4. in a 25 piles group, the pile diameter is 45cm and center spacing of square group is 2.0m if C
= 60 kN/sq.m determine whether the failure would occur with pile acting individually or as
a group? Neglect bearing at the tip of the pile. all the piles are 12m long. take m=0.7, for
shear mobilization around the each pile.

Neglect bearing at the tip of the pile. all the piles are 10m long. take m=0.7, for shear mobilization around the each pile. 3.
