Smart Board Lesson Plan

7th Grade Mathematics



I would probably use the following lesson to help review for a
cumulative test or a standardized test, such as the Ohio
Achievement Tests.



This Whack-A-Mole game is an interactive way to review in class. As far as
resources, I would simply need a Smart Board, two koosh balls, and a preassembled Whack-A-Mole game, equipped with questions.



To play, I would split my students up into two teams and have each team send a
representative to the board for each turn.



The two representatives would throw “koosh balls” at the screen in attempts to hit
one of the moles on the Smart Board.



Once a student hits a mole, a multiple-choice review question will appear and that
student’s team will receive 2 points.



That same student will have one opportunity to answer the shown question for 3
additional points to their team’s score.



If the student answers incorrectly, the player from the other team will have an
opportunity to steal the question with the correct answer. If they provide the correct
answer, the stealing team will be rewarded 4 points.



If a student answers a question correctly, I would have them quickly explain their
process to find the answer. If no students answer correctly, no points will be
rewarded. Firstly I would ask if anyone in the class could provide an explanation to
the problem and if no one could, I would explain how to find the correct answer.



We would play until all of the questions have been answered and the team with the
most points at the end wins.



Creates a competitive enthusiastic environment that provides
incentives for figuring out answers



Using this as a review game highlights important content



Gives students the opportunity to demonstrate learned skills



I could include various questions with different levels of difficult so
all students could be challenged



I could provide various formats for questions so students can
view it in different, but equivalent manners



Since this would be a review game, I would be aware of what I
have taught in class and have a sense of what contributes to their
background knowledge



This game would support visual, auditory, & kinesthetic learners
since students get the opportunity to see the problem, hear the
problem, and do the problem.

  • 1. + Smart Board Lesson Plan Assignment 4.1 Lesley Spaeth

  • 3. + Outline  This Whack-A-Mole game is an interactive way to review in class. As far as resources, I would simply need a Smart Board, two koosh balls, and a preassembled Whack-A-Mole game, equipped with questions.  To play, I would split my students up into two teams and have each team send a representative to the board for each turn.  The two representatives would throw “koosh balls” at the screen in attempts to hit one of the moles on the Smart Board.  Once a student hits a mole, a multiple-choice review question will appear and that student’s team will receive 2 points.  That same student will have one opportunity to answer the shown question for 3 additional points to their team’s score.  If the student answers incorrectly, the player from the other team will have an opportunity to steal the question with the correct answer. If they provide the correct answer, the stealing team will be rewarded 4 points.  If a student answers a question correctly, I would have them quickly explain their process to find the answer. If no students answer correctly, no points will be rewarded. Firstly I would ask if anyone in the class could provide an explanation to the problem and if no one could, I would explain how to find the correct answer.  We would play until all of the questions have been answered and the team with the most points at the end wins.
  • 4. + Supporting Universal Design  Creates a competitive enthusiastic environment that provides incentives for figuring out answers  Using this as a review game highlights important content  Gives students the opportunity to demonstrate learned skills  I could include various questions with different levels of difficult so all students could be challenged  I could provide various formats for questions so students can view it in different, but equivalent manners  Since this would be a review game, I would be aware of what I have taught in class and have a sense of what contributes to their background knowledge  This game would support visual, auditory, & kinesthetic learners since students get the opportunity to see the problem, hear the problem, and do the problem.
