3. Leap Pad Activity
The children will have the option
to listen to a story. In most
classrooms the teacher reads the
story; but I would use the
technology of the Leap Pad
( assuming the school can provide
at least a group a group of 5 or 6
Leap Pads). This way, they are
“reading” the book. With a Leap
Pad the children follow along by
tapping each word and having it
read aloud to them. I would also
have them repeat what is said.
This way I am assured that they
are retaining the information that
they are hearing.
4. Completing the
Standards
Expectations
The standard states that they
should be able to ask and answer
questions about key details in the
text. To do this I would create a
matching game that would be done
on individual iPad or a regular
computer projected by a
promethean board; we also could
use the clickers in the picture so
that we could also use the game as
we group review. The student
would have to match the person,
place, or thing to the illustrations
in the Leap Pad story. If they get
the answers correct, then they get
points. The points will result in a
grade. This is a way that they
students will be engaged in reading
but using technology.
5. A Quick Tip! One way to read a story to the whole
class is to log on to readinga-z.com
and have an electronic book from
this website projected from the
smart board or promethean board.
This way every student can see the
pictures and still focus on what you
as the teacher are saying because
they are not trying to see around
someone’s head. This is a way to
keep trouble issues down because
they are all still in their own desk
and not sitting right up under one
another on a carpet. This is a good
way to incorporate the old with the
new. The teacher is still reading the
story to the class but the book is
projected electronically from the
board.
6. Summing it all up!
The Point of this lesson is to help children learn by means of technology.
When beginning to do a reading lesson like I have chosen. Start out by
choosing a book that incorporates the lesson in the standard for that week on
the Leap Pad. Once you have chosen a book, then you can build a game and
allow the children to play the game, as a group with the promethean board
and the clickers, or as individuals on the iPad. At the end of the class time or
closing as we have learned. Call all of the students back to their individual
desks and read a book aloud to them using the Readinga-z.com website and
project it by means of a promethean board. ( The Leap Pad and iPad activities
would be very useful during centers. This is a way to incorporate many
different types of technology during the course of one day.)
