This document provides guidance for an assignment on narrative music videos. It defines narrative music videos as videos that tell a story, which may or may not relate to the song's lyrics. There are three types of narratives: illustration reflects lyrics, amplification uses different themes that complement the song, and disjuncture holds little relationship to the song. Advantages include helping audiences connect with the artist's intentions, while disadvantages can be higher costs and audience confusion from unclear plots. Examples of each type are provided. The task is to analyze two narrative video types through screenshots, annotations on conventions and suitability for artist/genre. Optional questions consider the narrative's purpose and the artist's role.
