2. What is the process you went through to create
your product?
• To create my front cover, contents page, double page spread (DPS), I
used the software ‘Photoshop’.
• The software Photoshop enabled me to edit my photos. For example
making the main images and sub-images brighter and increasing the
contrast and saturation of the images, allowing it to stand out more
which I have done in double page article.
• Also, Photoshop allowed me to use a variety of text fonts as well as
colours to differentiate between the headline, stand first, credits, pull
quotes and the main article.
3. How have you used an SLR or bridge camera?
What have you learnt about using it?
• For my images to be taken, I have used Cannon EOS 600D SLR.
When I was taking my images, I used the automatic focus rather than
the manual focus, this is because I wanted to make sure that my
images came out perfectly clear- blurred background and main focus
is on my artists.
• In terms of what I have learnt about using the DSLR, I learnt to use
the flash when indoors as the lighting is very shallow, so the use of
flash allows the complexion of my artists to be a lot brighter, however,
I did not use the flash when I took a photo of my front cover artist as I
was already using studio lighting. But when using the camera
outdoors, it is not necessary to use the flash due to the natural
lighting, however it can still be used if the natural lighting is not great
or dark.
4. What website did you use through the
production? What post production programs
have you used or any desk stop publishing
software?
• To keep my work organised and easier to present, I have used the
website ‘Blogger’.
• Through the production of my magazine, I have used the website
www.dafont.com to download different fonts. An example of a font text
that I downloaded that is shown on my magazine is the masthead title
‘Nostalgia’ which is shown on the front page, bottom of the contents page
and double page spread. Also the anchorage text on the front cover,
which is the artists name ‘Lovely Xavier’.
• The only post production program that I have used was
Photoshop. However, if I could redo my product, I would use
the software InDesign as it can be used to create works such
as posters, flyers, brochures, magazines, newspapers
and books and so this software would be perfect when creating
a magazine.
5. How have you used web applications and online
forums to showcase your research, planning,
drafting, final products and evaluation?
• I have used many presentation websites and software for my
research, planning, drafting final products and evaluation.
• I have used Prezi and PowerPoint for my genre research and flat
plans, as I was able to present the magazines I have analysed and
was able to explain it in greater detail and making it look exciting to
read as I was able to choose from a variety of themes. As for my flat
plans, I was able to show how I wanted the layout of my front cover,
contents page and double page spread.
• For foundation portfolio and drafting, I have used ‘Blogger’ to show
the drafts I have done of my products- front cover, contents page and
double page spread.
• And for my evaluation, I have used more presentation websites such
as Emaze, Slideshare, PowToon, VoiceThread and hoping to use
iMovie and YouTube for my other evaluation question(s).
