What have you learnt about technologies from the process of contructing this product
1. What have you learnt
about technologies
from the process of
constructing this
product?
2. Technology Used
• Introduction:
- Blogger (recording and uploading coursework)
- Photoshop (preliminary front cover)
- Adobe InDesign (preliminary contents page)
• Research:
- Microsoft Word (research into magazines and companies)
- Google (searching for information)
- Survey Monkey (creating and sharing interview)
- Voice recorder on phone (interview)
- Microsoft PowerPoint (creating slideshows)
- Slideshare (uploading PowerPoints)
- Video Maker app (putting together interview)
3. Technology Used
• Pitch:
- Microsoft Word
- Microsoft Excel (flat plan)
• Production:
- Photoshop (front cover, contents page, double page spread,
editing photos)
- Camera (taking photos)
- Microsoft Word (writing my article)
5. • During the process of my coursework I used PowerPoint and Word
many times. UI have used both these technologies before, therefore
I was comfortable with them and did not need to teach myself any
skills related towards the programs. This meant I saved time on
areas such as the evaluation and pitch as I could easily display lots of
information in an attractive and interesting way. For example with
my survey analysis I was able to use both text and images to
represent information though PowerPoint.
• I used Microsoft Excel to create my flat plan, however because I
have experience using his program in he past I did no learn any new
skills from it.
6. • The website Blogger which I used to upload my coursework
and create my blog was completely new to me. At first I
struggled in navigating the site and considered using a
different platform to upload my work.
• However after using the site to upload over the course of the
months I have acquired skills which meant that my
information is well displayed and clear. For example when
uploading photos at first I simply left them as they were,
however this made my blog look cluttered and unprofessional,
therefore I learnt how to change the sizing of the photos and
also how to move them to a different position.
• I also learnt how to upload a HTML web link, which I needed
to insert Slideshares into my blog.
The tab that lets you move and
resize photos.
7. • I used the website SurveryMonkey to create my survey for my
audience research. Although I had never used it before I learnt
to navigate the site easily and managed to produce a range of
questions. When making the survey, you need to give a
question and then either write answer which can be chosen or
leave it open for the participant to write what they want. I
wrote my own answers that could be chosen. For one of my
questions I allowed participants to choose more than one
answer by changing the settings on the answers.
8. • I used Phototshop to create my front cover, contents page and
double page spread. Before my preliminary task I had never
used Photoshop before and over the process of using it I
learnt many things.
I used the magic wand tool to remove the background from
photos, for example the photos I used on my double page
spread. This helped me cleanly remove the background, and
then using the ellipses tool I created a new background.
I also used the ellipses tool to create shapes on my pages, for
example on my contents page the rectangles behind the
headers.
The text tool was very helpful as it meant
I had a variety of fonts I could use, also
with Photoshop I learned you can put
effects on your text for example using
two colours on your text with the stroke
tool.
9. • Another skill I learned during my Photoshop was how to
convert photos into smart objects, this allowed me to edit my
photos with for example the select tool.
• I also used the opacity effect, for example on my overlay on
the contents, as this made it look more natural and blend into
the page.
10. • I have past experience using a camera however when I
completed my photography for the magazine pages I learned a
lot of new skills. For example I used different modes when
taking photos, I used portrait mode for the photo on the front
cover.
• I also used the focus on the lens so that the photos came out
clear and captured all the fine details.
11. • To make my contents page for the preliminary task I used
Adobe InDesign, this was a new program to me. I learnt how
to insert shapes which I used to portray text and photographs.
• Originally I started my double page spread on InDesign
however there was not as many options as there was on
Photoshop for editing photos, therefore I chose to use
Photoshop as it gave me a better looking end product.
I used both the
shape and text
tool in my
preliminary task.
