2. WHAT HAVE YOU LEARNT ABOUT TECHNOLOGIES
FROM THE PROCESS OF CONSTRUCTING THIS
PRODUCT?
3. ADOBE PHOTOSHOP
For my front cover I learnt how to use the pen tool in order to highlight an area of my image and remove
the background from it. I did this because the mise-en-scene of the background didn’t relate to my genre
so it represented my genre better if I removed the background.
Also, I learned how to use the blending options on
different layers in order to add different effects and
make the text and images look more attractive to
my target audience. I added an orange outer glow to
my images in order to match the colour scheme I
wanted to use.
4. INDESIGN
I hadn’t used Adobe InDesign before, so everything was new to me. I had to research myself
how to edit the text size, colour and placement of images. The place tool was the one I used
the most (File>Place) as I used an image as the background for my double page spread.
The place tool allowed me to do this buy finding my image and clicking place, it then
resized it for me in order to get the best fit for my page.
5. SKYPE
I used Skype as a way to do my focus group and retrieve feedback on my media product. I
used Skype because it allowed me to easily create a group call with my friends and ask
them questions about my magazine. I was able to send images into the group call so they
could see my product and give me feedback, which then allowed me to think of
improvements for any of my future media products. Skype was a very easy piece of
software to use as I have used it on a regular basis before so I understood the layout and
how to create different calls to suit my needs.
6. BLOGGER
I used blogger to create my blog and as an outlet to upload my coursework. I found blogger very easy to
use, despite never using it prior to my coursework. It is very easy to embed documents, organise blog
posts and give blog posts relevant titles. I learnt how to use HTML code in order to embed documents
into my blog, this didn’t take long to learn because it was a simple copy and paste job. I just had to
remember to paste the code into the HTML section of blogger, in order for it to be read by the system.
Sometimes, blogger was a bit slow to show me a preview of my blog so I can see what it looks like
before I publish the post, this became quite frustrating as I was working on a strict timescale which I
wanted to stick to, however, once it did show me the preview, I was then able to be sure that the post
was to the best quality it could be and I could then publish the post to my blog.
7. POWTOON
I used powtoon as a way to add diversity and variety to my blog. Powtoon allows the user to
create animated videos containing information. This made my blog more entertaining as it
provides a different format of presenting information. It was very easy to use as it supplied
a wide range of customisable templates for me to use, I was able to input my own
information and powtoon did all of the animations and transitions between the different
frames. This made it easy for me to create an entertaining information outlet. I hadn’t used
it prior to creating my media product so it was all new at first but after playing around with
the different tools available to me, I was easily able to create my video.
