- Angono in rizal province is considered as the “art capital of the Philippines” because of the town’s rich artistic expressions that include music, painting, sculpting and folk arts. Higantes – according to the stories, the original higantes were representation of hacienderos during the Spanish colonial period; the inhabitants of angono paraded these higantes on the streets to ridicule the arrogant and cruel landlords. The earliest known higantes composed of a mother, father and a child that measures 7-10feet. These are traditionally paraded on the 22nd and 23rd of November in angono during the higantes festival that coincide with the fiesta.
- Derived from the Filipino term, “bali” or broken, and “sungay” which means horn. Batangas is considered as “balisong capital of the Philippines” Batangueno blacksmiths have gained such renown for the quality of their workmanship that Hollywood producers employ them to create props for big budget films.
- The town of lucban is famous for the pahiyas festival celebrated every 15th of may to honor san isidro Labrador, the patron saint of farmers.. During the festival, the townspeople decorate their houses with kiping made from glutinous rice that is thinly coated on mature leaves and steamed on low fire
- The abundance of these natural fibers in the region allowed the Bicolanos excel in weaving.. Unlike the northern Luzon cultural communities, their motifs are simple but colorful.
