The Origin of Migrant Farmworkers Essay
The Mexican Migrant Farm Workers community formed in Southern California in the 20th
century because of two factors that came together: farming emphasized by migrations like the
Okie farmers from the East and Mexicans imported to the U.S. because of the need for cheap
labor as a replacement of Americans during World War II. The migrant labor group formed after
an already similar group in the U.S had been established in California, the American farm workers
from the East, known as the Okies. The Dust Bowlof the 1930s caused the movement of the Okies
to the West and was followed by the transition from American dominant farm labor to Mexican
migrant labor. The Okies reinforced farming in California through the skills they took with them,...

Thousands of families journeyed to California, settling in San Joaquin Valley. From 1930 to
1936, the Dust Bowl caused damages in agriculture in the Central Valleys all the way to the East
Coast of the U.S. At the time, the majority of the farmers were from Oklahoma, in other words,
they were American. Although most of the farmers fleeing the Dust Bowl were U.S born, some
were Mexican Americans living in Texas, Arizona and the states closer to the border (Gregory).
However, this event did not fully give rise to the Mexican Migrant Farm Workers community. It
was instead, the beginnings of successful farm labor in the valleys of California, which
transformed California s view towards farming. California seemed perfect, the climate was good
for a diversity of crops and it promised a lot to the desolated farmers from the East. Why was this
significant to the formation of the Mexican Migrant community? In other words, if the Dust Bowl
would not have happened, then farm labor would have not been as significant in California as it is.
Californians would have continued mining and building factories in soils that today, are used
primarily for agriculture. James N. Gregory, professor at the University of Washington argues that
The twentieth century drained rural Americans from the land as surely as it improved the
technology and efficiency of farming as he discusses the effects of the

The Origin Of English Language Codification
The linguistic term codification refers to the process of standardizing and developing a norm of a
language (Revolvy, 2017). In addition, it means the methods of creation and use of the dictionary
through designing writing system and setting grammar rules. According to Einar Haugen
codification leads to minimal variation in form (Stein Tieken Boon van Ostade, n.d. 1994: p160),
therefore it reinforces a certain variety which has been selected and accepted. Even though
codification is the second stage in the standardization, it is ongoing process.
The origin of English language codification was back to the 16th century, when many of
dictionaries and grammar books had published with a view of teaching the language to Welsh
noblemen after the Act of Union between Wales and England in 1536. These dictionaries contained
a list of hard words, mostly loanwords which adopted and borrowed from other languages, or
sometimes invented. Robert Cawdery produced the first English dictionary in (1604). It lists about
3000 words, with a brief simple description for each. He aimed to codify a language, to let readers
understand hard words. (Bl.uk, 2017)
By the 18th century, scholars developed codification, due to considering it as a recognized activity.
For that authors and scholars such as John Walker and Thomas Sheridan started to write materials
so as to set down perspective norms for pronunciation and grammar. Unlike European countries
which established academies for codification,

The Ethical Dimension Of The Demise Of Enron Corporation
This paper explores the ethical dimension of the demise of Enron Corporation an reflection of
author, placed in hypothetical situations. Accounting Fraud and Management philosophy will be
the main discussion topics, along with the motivations of fraud. The fall of Enron can be directly
attributed to a violation of ethical standards in business. This makes Enronunique in corporate
history for the same actions that made Enron on of the fastest growing and most profitable
corporations, at the turn of the 21st century, also bout about its destruction. This paper does not
explore legal consequences, only the ethical dimension of Enron s actions. Enron Corporation:
Ethics Case Study and Personal Reflection Capitalism is an amoral system that follows protocol of
mechanical laws of supply and demand. Over the course of two centuries our country has tried to
introduce ethics and morality into economic constructs. Anti trust, labor laws, and regulation have
been our attempts to introduce an ethical element into an otherwise unfeeling system of exchange.
The reason, an attempt to reduce damage that is possible by the manipulation of capitalism. And
to not only to create an even playing field but keeping the field from reverting back to being
occupied by serfs. Corporations offer many benefits to society, increased supply of goods, tax
revenue, jobs...etc. They can also cause damage as in the case of Enron Corporation.

Descriptive Dream
One morning, the piercing sound of alarm clock brought me back to life. When I woke up from
unsettling dreams, trying to stretch my arms and legs and to reach for my phone but found
myself turned into an unicorn. Lying on my back with rainbow colored hair and tail in my small
bed, and when I looked up and down, my giant, sharp horn on my forehead and my snow white
belly appeared in my view. My enormous legs took up three quarters of the bed. I have to squeeze
my gigantic body to fit in. What a wonderful and bizarre dream. Luckily it s only a dream. But
everything seemed real. My bedroom, pictures of my family and friends hanging on the wall.
My desk with my homework I worked on last night, but too tiny compared to my size now, my
comfy couch sitting next to my bed. And my messy closet with a giant teddy bear sleeping on
the floor. I stared at the window, the not so perfect weather to start a Monday. Dark clouds
devoured the sun and sky. The tree danced in the wind. Maybe falling back to sleep helps me
forgetting this joke, I thought, but impossible. I opened my eyes and saw my white belly and my
long unicornlegs. Hours past by, still no change. I stopped trying with a pain in my chest that I
had never felt before. Where s my phone? I thought, glancing around. Found my phone lying on
its back and plugged in. I tried to grab it from my desk, but I made a horrible decision. My leg
shoved the lamp and the homework on the ground as I unplugged my phone. I whined and tried

Training Camp Is A Time For Veteran Guys
In less than 24 hours, the month of July will be here. Which means we are only a few more
weeks away from NFL training camps beginning across the country. Training camp is a time for
veteran guys to get their work in, rookies to get established to the NFL and other players to step up
and make a name for themselves. The 2015 season in the NFL was fun as we saw rookies and two
year players come of age playing prominent roles on their respective teams.
With that being said, can those players who showed up last season become household names in
2016? Here are five players that will be household names this season:
1. Arizona Cardinals RB David Johnson: Johnson burst onto the scene as a third round pick out of
Northern Iowa, giving the Cardinals a true three headed monster at running back with Chris
Johnson and Andre Ellington. Head coach Bruce Arians knew for the Cardinals to be successful
they had to have a formidable rushing attack.
Johnson gave them just that as he made an impact in the Cardinals regular season opener against
the New Orleans Saints, where he only had one reception but made it count as he took it 55 yards
for a touchdown. That was a sign of things to come as the next week against the Chicago Bears,
Johnson had 108 yard kickoff return for a touchdown.
Johnson would finish the season with 13 total touchdowns, 581 rushing and 457 receiving yards.
He is a perfect fit for the Cardinals offense and expect more NFL fans to get know about the speedy

Essay On Health Disparity In African American Men
The higher incidence of prostate cancer in African American/Black men compared to other racial
/ethnic groups is a major health disparity. The statistics surrounding this health disparity are scary,
with African American men having a prostate cancer mortality rate twice as high as whites and a
prostate cancerincidence two thirds higher (Modlin, 2012). The health disparity of African
American men s incidence of prostate canceris a huge problem from a public health perspective
because it makes African American men less productive, there are higher costs in the healthcare
field than would be if the gap didn t exist, and a loss of sense of control from African American men
because of financial concerns/aftermath of treatment. One behavioral influence... Show more

A biological influence on this health disparity is a genetic predisposition seen in African
American men. Several studies have shown a chromosome that is more common in African
American men that increases the risk of prostate cancer. The chromosome is 8q24 variants,
which is the most commonly seen, as well as, BCL2 and EphB2 linking to a higher incidence of
prostate cancer (Modlin, 2012). The genetic predisposition has also been proven to cause prostate
cancer to be a more aggressive disease in African Americans, likely leading to the higher mortality
rates. The behavioral influence of being less likely to get screened and the biological influence of a
genetic predisposition interact to influence the health disparity. There is no way of changing the
genetic predisposition so that already puts African American men in a place for higher incidence.
Being they already have that higher incidence due to genetics, adding into the equation African
Americans being less likely to be screened only makes the health disparity

Examples Of Moral Dilemmas In Macbeth
Ioral Dilemma in Macbeth Moral dilemma s are experiments in which one is asked to imagine a
difficult situation and decide what they think the morally correct course of action would be. A
moral dilemma requires one to choose between two or more actions and have moral reason to
support the actions chosen. In William Shakespeare s tragedy, Macbeth, Macbeth himself
encounters a moral dilemma that requires him to make a conscious decision that makes him
choose between killing King Duncan or continuing to live the peasant life. To begin with, in the
opening scene of the play, Macbeth is faced with 3 witches who appear out of the storm. They
proceed to make plans to meet again and then quickly disappear. While the witches were in

Essay On Ethical Issues In Iron Man
In 2008, the film Iron Man was released. The film follows Tony Stark, a wealthy businessman
and engineer who transforms himself from a military arms supplier into a super hero, Iron Man,
by building himself a mechanical suit. Throughout the film, Tony Stark makes several ethical
decisions that impact the lives of many. The film opens with Tony Stark visiting Afghanistan to
demonstrate his weapons capabilities. After a successful demonstration, he is ambushed and
injured, and captured by local terrorists who demand that he build the weapons system that he
had just previously just demonstrated. He refuses however, after being tortured and seeing the
life of the doctor who saved his life being threatened, he lies to his captors and says that he will
consent to building the weapons system. He instead takes up the project of building a
mechanical suit to help him and the doctor escape. Here we arrive at his first major ethical
decision. Lying to terrorists may seem like an easy decision, however in this case it puts the life
of another individual at risk. If caught he and the man who saved his life will be killed. He
completes the suit and manages to escape. As he returns to the United States, he immediately calls
a press conference where he informs the press that his company will no longer produce weapons.
This is another major ethical decision made by Tony Stark. This decision was made to prevent loss
of innocent life and to keep the weapons out of the hands of terrorists.

The mockumentary style can be considered as a form of fiction that exists to appropriate nonfiction
conventions that are normally considered to be the traits of the documentary form. The productions
mentioned above had many aspects in common with respect to cinematography. They used shaky
cam for most shots that included action. They would mix static shots with quick pan movements
and quick zoom. They did this to make the action more interesting and so that they could focus on
specific aspects in the scene. This also allowed them to have quick paced comedy and which to

Consequently, Sonic (a hypothetical start up business) is preparing to launch The Sonic 1000
PDA product with exclusive features at a value added price for consumer and business market in
order to compete with the existing PDA makers such as PalmOne, Handspring, Samsung,
Garmin, Dell, Sony, and so on (Philip Kotler and Kevin Lane Keller, 2006). On the other hand,
studies are enlightened that Sonic 1000 is the first creation of Sonic as well as it was founded by
two entrepreneurs who have experiences in the PC world (Philip Kotler and Kevin Lane Keller,

In this technological and scientific world, PDAs are becoming one of the most important needing
devices by the educated people. However, the needs vary according to the person s career, income,
and so on (The times, 2008). For example (Philip Kotler and Kevin Lane Keller, 2006):
professionals need a PDA to coordinate their busy tasks, note down information, stay in touch while
on the go, and also to exchange information from anywhere. Then again, students need a
multifunction PDA to perform their complicated tasks (see table 1.1.0 in below) without the assist
of multiple gadgets. Lastly, business markets (contains of corporate users, entrepreneurs, and
medical users) need a personal digital to record, conveniently store and exchange

Memory And Erasure On Willamette s Campus Analysis
Inscribed in the very study of history is memory. Orienting our every action in this realm, whether
consciously or subconsciously, it is our memory that each human clings to. As humans establish
groups, groups form collectives, and collectives constitute institutions, memories are legitimated,
solidified, or erased entirely. While reading an individual memoir often reveals the depth of human
sentimentality, studying collective memoryoften illuminates the fundamental relationship between
powerful institutions and the knowledge it immortalizes or obfuscates. Examining sites of memory
and erasure on Willamette s Campus, the LARC grant proposed by Professor Eisenberg, provides
an excellent opportunity to form a case study of this relationship.

An analysis of the global significance of the 2012 London Summer Olympics opening ceremony
The 2012 London Summer Olympics Opening Ceremony (Hereafter LSOOC) was watched by
62,000 spectators in the stadium and an estimated audience of one billion across all five
continents, it was for a few hours the focal point of the world. This essay will conclude that the
live broadcast of this major sporting media event has become economically significant; primarily as
a result of the increasing global commercialisation of sport.

This sort of behaviour is motivated in and around public venues that provide large television
screens for viewing pleasure. The manipulation of time and space has led to the accessibility of
television in bars and restaurants which led to the construction of a world enabled public sphere.
Consequently, the event itself becomes a dispersed occasion taking place not only at the sports
arena, but also within homes and other public places.
The Olympics Games
The Olympic Games is a major internationalized media event, it highlights both summer and winter
sports in which athletes from around the world can participate in. The Olympic Games are
considered to be the worlds most notable contest with more than 200 nations competing. The
Summer Olympic Games are held quadrennialy, meaning that the event occurs every four years.
Media events are live television broadcasts. The rise of television has allowed for audiences to act
as a witness to the spectacle. While sporting tournaments offer commentary to shape the spectators
perceptions, Contests and Coronations invite the audience at home and at the live event to act as
partisans and judges. The audience is then obligated to assess the team s performance not only in
the games, but also the display of the opening ceremony, in which the national identity of the
country is unveiled.

Essay About Buju Banton
Buju Banton, born Marc Anthony Myrie, is a popular reggae musician from Jamaica. Banton has
written many songs based on sociopolitical topics, some of which have received great criticism
and nearly ended his career. Untold Stories was released in the 1995 album Til Shiloh and it
displayed many topics which had been forgotten by dancehall audiences. The song related in great
measure to the popular issues in society such as poverty, crime, corruption of the government and
the degradation of the younger generation. Although it was written nearly two decades ago, this
song is very applicable to the modern society in the Caribbeanas it relates to economic, political and
social issues.

Banton sang about the corruption of the government and their disregard for the Caribbean
people. This is noticed when he says, While our leaders play. Through this line it can be
observed that the government had full control of the finances of the country which they used for
their benefit. This implies that the leaders of the Caribbean countries take no heed of the needs
of their people but only seek to enjoy the countries money. This statement is true throughout the
contemporary Caribbean society as many leaders neglect their duties as leaders and instead
focus on their self needs. In Jamaican dialect this is described through the term politricks since
many politicians have mastered the art of deception, resulting in them being able to convince the
public that whatever they are doing is for the best. The corruption of the government therefore, is
not fully perceived by the public and this can be interpreted from the line, The full has never
been told. According to Hodges, The implication is that, if the full ever were told, the tricksters
would be exposed and the trick turned on them . This also indicates just how well the leaders are
capable of deceiving the public. Ergo it can be deduced that the corruption of the public is a major
issue still in the

Glad to see you again LV Team!
These past few weeks we have covered the central tendency, variability, correlation and now we
will look at something that has a correlation with standard deviation and mean. I hope you still
remember the bell shape of the standard deviation graph! That is ok, if you do not. I will briefly
do my best to summarize it. The Standard Deviation (SD) is the average distance from the mean. In
a normal distribution, the standard deviation is the standard that is 34 % of the cases to the right
that would be one positive standard deviation and 34% to the left and that would be one negative
SD. Majority of the data will be between 3 and +3 standard deviation from the mean; which is
applicable to all normal ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, chemistry and physics grade are completely different; however, if one has the SD,
mean then one could find out the z score to compare the location. Mary got a score of 70, SD= 10
and mean of 60 on a chemistry exam. She also got a score of 80, SD= 5, mean= 75 for physics.
Z score for chemistry= (70 60)/1= 1
Z score for physics= (80 75)/10= 0.5
We can say that Mary s score for chemistry was 1 SD above the class mean and physics was 0.5
above the class mean.
Let s do some more practices!
***The following four cases are based on a normal distribution of scores with Mean = 75 and the
SD = 6.38.
ВҐWhat is the probability of a score falling between a raw score of 70 and 80?
We are in Olive oil business and we would like to know the probability of selling 70 to 80 bottles?
The average mean is 75 and the SD is 6.38 Z= (70 75)/6.38= 0.78 Z= (80 75)/6.38= 0.78
Once we get the z score, we want to convert it to probability values. We know at 1value it is 34%
but we have only 0.78. We will use the appendix D that is on the screen, find 0.78 in section A (z
value) and run your finger to section B (area between mean and Z). The results are 0.2823
convert in %; which is 28.23%. One thing, there is no negative z values in the appendix because it
symmetrical. So to the right of the mean it is 28.23% and to the left 28.23%; with a total % of
56.46%.
The probability of selling 70 to 80 bottles would be 56.46%.

The Controversy On Government Surveillance
The controversy on government surveillance is very controversial. Should the government have
unlimited access to citizen s personal information, conversations, and text in order to protect the
country? Or should the government have more of a laissez faire type role in citizen s private
lifestyles? Across the world, there are different approaches on the governments surveillanceon
people. Iceland s policies are the least intrusive in the world, with almost no surveillance and laws

Censorship, Media Manipulation, And Betrayal
In George Orwell s novel, 1984, he incorporates the major themes of censorship, media
manipulation, and betrayal. The citizens of Oceania are constantly bombarded with different
forms of propaganda, including the posters stating BIG BROTHER IS WATCHING and the Party
s slogans, WAR IS PEACE, FREEDOM IS SLAVERY, and IGNORANCE IS STRENGTH. Giant
telescreens constantly run streams of propaganda in hopes of making the Party appear superior to
the Brotherhood. According to Big Brother, sexual interactions should be kept to a minimum and
only occur to populate and produce more Party supporters. The Party strongly encourages the
children of Oceania to join the Junior Spies, an organization that brainwashes them to report their
parents or guardians if they feel they are being disloyal to the Party and Big Brother. Nothing is
private in the territory of Oceania; technological mechanisms, such as small microphones and
helicopters acting as drones, are installed throughout to constantly monitor its members. As media
manipulation evolves and the citizens become further brainwashed, individuals have a big decision
to make, whether to rebel against the Party or betray their old ways of life. The people of Oceania
cannot express their true thoughts, emotions, and feelings about the Party for the fear that the
Thought Police will catch and turn them in. These negative thoughts obviously exist, but not many
individuals are willing to stand up for what they believe in and who they

Caroline has only succeeded in alienating Darcy. Her attempts to improve her social status have

The Life and Work of C.G. Jung Reconsidered Essay
The Life and Work of C.G. Jung Reconsidered In my original paper on Carl Gustav Jung, I took a
rather skeptical view of the doctor and his work, for several reasons that I will reiterate.
However, after studying further into his work, I realized that these objections only related to his
early psychiatric cases, and I found myself to be far more intrigued and impressed by his later
work and theories. While I had stated in my first consideration of Jung that, there is a frustratingly
limited, almost biased quality to much of... his work , I was pleasantly surprised later on to find
that many of his later theories and assumptions were anything but limited. I still believe that in his
early case work he took tremendous risks, both... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He also read Swedenborg (a noted Swedish philosopher and theologian best know for his later
work in which he presented ideas for a new spiritual era ) and studied spiritualism and the
paranormal. Jung eventually realized that what he really wanted to do was psychiatry, and he
became an assistant at Burgholzli Mental Hospital, a clinic attached to the University of Zurich.
Accounts of his early psychiatric cases, as related to his assistants at Bughholzli, provide an
interesting overview of Jung as an individual as well as his formative ideas in the field of
psychotherapy and analysis. These early cases and the conclusions he draws from them are,
much like his predecessor and one time colleague, Sigmund Freud, sometimes revolutionary and
brilliant. Yet, as I had stated in my earlier paper on Jung, I also found there to be a frustratingly
limited and seemingly biased quality to much of this work that, I felt, said as much about Jung
the person as it did about the work itself. I also felt that this frustration was compounded by the
fact that Jung openly criticized and departed from what he felt was non progressive methodologies
and ideologies of Freud and other contemporaries. I was intrigued by his objections to rubber
stamped diagnoses, and the tendencies of doctors and teachers of the time to disregard the unique
individuality of their patient s cases. He was clearly

Retirement Plan Proposal and Communication Plan Essay
Retirement Plan Proposal and Communication Plan HRM/324 Retirement Plan Proposal and
Communication Plan Retirement pensions provides a source of retirement income employees can
draw on after they stop working, they have to invest for retirement while they are still on the job

earnings and in some cases defer taxes on their contributions as well, employees can participate in
employer sponsored retirement plans and invest in individual retirement accounts (IRAs) that they

A 401(k) plan, so named for the section of the Internal Revenue Code describing the
requirements, is a savings plan in which employees are allowed to defer income up to a $12,000
maximum (which increases by $1,000 a year from 2003 to 2006, with amounts indexed for
inflation thereafter) (Milkovich and Newman, 2008). Employers typically match employee
savings at a rate of 50 cents on the dollar. Defined contribution plans are more popular than
defined benefit plans in both small and large companies (Milkovich and Newman, 2008).
Historically these plans are faster to vest (the companies matched share of the contribution
permanently shifts over to employee ownership, and they are more portable job hopping
employees can take their pension accruals along to the next job) (Milkovich and Newman,
2008). The second type of plan is an employee stock ownership plan (ESOP) (Milkovich and
Newman, 2008). In a basic ESOP a company makes a tax deductible contribution of stock shares
or cash to a trust (Milkovich and Newman, 2008). The trust then allocates company stock (or stock
bought with cash contributions) to participating employee accounts (Milkovich and Newman,
2008). The amount allocated is based on employee earnings (Milkovich and Newman, 2008).
When an ESOP is used as a pension vehicle (as opposed to an incentive program), the employees
receive cash at retirement based upon the stock value at that time (Milkovich and

The Public Administration Theories
This discussion of the relevant literature is grounded in the theoretical work expressed by
Donald C Menzel, (2010), Sharfritz, et al (2011 and 2012), Cooper (2012), and Renz and
Associates (2010). These literature reviews address Public Administration Theories in their
similarities and differences to the societal trends that affect the leadership, policies and decision
making that affect the California HCD in carrying out its mission in affordable housing and
community development. The Theory of Human Motivation by AH Maslow (1943) (Shafritz
Hyde, 2012) states human needs arrange themselves in hierarchies of pre potency. This is to say
one needs rest on the prior satisfaction of another, more pre potent need. Man is a perpetually
wanting animal. In addition, no need or drive can be treated as if it were isolated or discrete;
every drive is related to the state of satisfaction or dissatisfaction of other drives. Motivation theory
is not synonymous with the behavior theory. The motivations are only one class of determinants of
behavior. While behavior is usually motivated, it is also usually biologically, culturally and
situationally determined as well (Shafritz Hyde, 2012). This theory is in line with the California
HCD s mission to providing a societal concern and need that is trending in California with the
affordable housing sacristy and escalating rental prices. As affordable housing and community
development continues to become a dominate societal concern it is

Hamlet And Laertes By William Shakespeare
Hamlet and Laertes
William Shakespeare s Hamlet is one of his excellent tragedies which explores the difference
between themes such as love and revenge or the complexities of life and death. In Shakespeare s
play, Hamlet and Laertes show some comparisons and contrasts which give an abundance of interest
to the play. In fact, Hamlet and Laertes display impulsive reactions when angered; both have
fathers killed, and both are seeking revenge. Even so, both characters display a considerable
likeness, which is trying to protect the same person, Ophelia. It is important to realize that both
loved her, but in different ways. On the other hand, Hamlet had a lovely mother who was the
Queen and Laertes never had a mother figure in his life (Shmoop web).
One of those Hamlet s characteristics revealed in the play depicts him as an individual who was
not naturally vengeful, but he was loyal to his father. Therefore, he swore an oath to his father to
seek revenge. Also, Hamlet did not want to endanger his friends into the dangerous mission of
seeking revenge against the new King, so he urged his friends to shake hands and become part of
it, swearing in faith. He was not sure if the ghost was really his father rather than a deceitful demon
(Hamlet trailers). Therefore, he staged the Mousetrap to verify Claudius guilt. Hamlet built the plot
of the play, knowing that his uncle killed his father in cold blood. As a result, Hamlet s scorn of the
new king grows throughout the

Autism In Autistic Children
Disorders bring along a lot of other factors, like, the mental trauma in parents worrying for their
kids and a child missing out on the normal living like many other children of his/her age live.
Therapies are invented by the specialists especially for the kids affected by various disorders, but
these can make a difference to them only if they are handled with care and affection.
Precautions are always better to stay away from any kind of health related issues, but what can
one do if the disorder or the disability in an individual appears during pregnancy, while birth or
after birth. Physical disabilities can be recognized immediately so as to be rectified, but mental
disabilities would take time to get cured, as it is not all that easy to handle the mental related
issues in a child since it can lead to being affected physically too. Autism is one such mental
disorder, which can deteriorate the health related developments in an individual. Along with

The Impact of European Diseases in the New World Essay
The Impact of European Diseases in the New World
If science has taught us anything, it is that one event invariably effects countless others. This is no
more evident than when a species is introduced into a new environment. Once a foreign species
finds itself in new surroundings, it can either die or adapt. Often, these introduced species take over
the environment, irrevocably changing it to fit their needs. This usually leads to a serious
deteriorating in the well being of species currently existing there. Such is the case as when the
Europeans introduced themselves to the New World. The new arrivals not only brought themselves,
their technologies, and ways of life, but, most disastrously, their diseases arrived as well.

Killing its host is counter productive for diseases when the host dies, it dies. (Cowley, 54)
Regardless of the infection s intentions however, host death can often be the result.
And death is something that ran rampant through the native population. The Indians were not able
to combat these new afflictions because they were new to their systems. Small pox, whooping
cough, chicken pox, scarlet fever, influenza and many more had long been around in Europe and
the colonists had developed resistance to most of them. (Crosby, 198)
When a disease has existed in a community for years, the members of said community develop a
natural, inherited defense after some generations. After initial entrance, the disease runs through the
population and the more susceptible individuals acquire the disease and die from it. Those
individuals hardy enough to survive then dominate the gene pool and the disease become less fatal
to the remaining population. (Meltzer, 39)
Eventually, the diseases are always around in some variety, but there is a low incidence of
infection...with the only susceptible individuals are those entering by birth, which is way diseases
like measles and chick pox effect mostly the young, or from outside. These individuals show higher
rates of infection and death than those already living there amongst the diseases do. (Linton,

Three s a Crowd
We have nothing to fear, but fear itself. Known by many, this common phrase has few words, but
a intense meaning. In Ernest Hemingway s short story, The Short Happy Life of Francis
Macomber, the overcoming of fear is shown throughout the story. Francis Macomber and his
wife Margaret Macomber are on an African safari with a man name Robert Wilson. Hemingway
portrays Francis Macomber as wealthy and beautiful, yet cowardly. Macomber s wife Margaret
also young and beautiful, but seemingly dissatisfied with her husband of eleven years. Robert
Wilson is portrayed as a fearless man that has little regard for anyone but himself. The story is
focused around Francis Macomber s cowardly actions and his attempt to become ... Show more

In addition to the conflict in the story, there are scenes of rising action. One example of rising
action occurs when Wilson and Macomber return to the wild to hunt for a lion once again.
Macomber is able to get a shot off but only able to wound the lion before it runs away. As Wilson
and Macomber search for the wounded lion to finish it off, he inevitably runs away frightened
for a second time. Hemingway writes Macomber, was running; running wildly, in panic in the
open, running toward the stream. As a result of this instance, Macomber s wife takes a thriving
interest in Wilson. Hemingway writes, Once he had reached over to take his wife s hand . . .
she had removed her hand from his . . . his wife had reached forward and put her hand on Wilson
s shoulder . . . and kissed him on the mouth. Later, Macomber s wife sleeps with Wilson, which
will completely change Macomber s persona for the rest of the story. Macomber is so overcome
with anger, his character quickly changes from cowardly to courageous. Finally, the conflict and
the rising action of Hemingway s story leads to the climax. This occurs when Wilson, Macomber,
and his wife take their final journey into the wild. As a result of the sheer anger Macomber has for
Wilson and his wife, his fear is drowned by adrenaline. Macomber instantly takes on the
characteristics of Wilson as he takes out two buffalo on the journey. At this point, Wilson respects

Chemical Control Of The Colorado Potato Beetle
INTRODUCTION
Pests are nuisances, vectors for disease, and hinder the production of food and other goods. Pests
contribute to roughly 14% of the destruction of the world s annual agricultural output. Additionally,
they are vectors that allow for the transmission of many pathogens (Windley, 2012). The exact date
that pesticides were implemented into the practice of agriculture is unknown; however, it is
estimated that it likely has been around since the inception of early farming techniques. For
instance, sulfur was recorded to have been used as a chemical control for mites and insects as
early as 12000BC (Jones 1973). One common insecticide used in the Middle Ages in Persia and
ancient China consisted of an ingredient from the Dalmatian pyrethrum flowers. Containing 1.5%
of pyrethrin, the Dalmatian pyrethrum was the origin of an active insecticidal substance (Davies
et al, 2007). Paris green (copper(II) acetate triarsenite or copper(II) acetoarsenite) was a key
component in the chemical control of the Colorado potato beetle during its application in 1871
(Alyokhin 2009). The historical evidence of regular utilization of these insect deterrents indicates
an awareness by early agriculturists of the interactions between pest and the unique properties of
chemicals that destroy them. Furthermore, it is becoming more of a necessity to support the
sustainability of the needs of an ever growing population of humans. However, the world may be

The spam detection has different domains including Web (Castillo et al., 2006), Email (Chirita,

The judgment of the intentions or motives is generally based on the judgment of the actions of the
individual and what he/she may potentially do. A study done by Van Vugt, Asscher, Stams,
Hendriks, Bijleveld and van der Laan (2011) examined the differences in the moral judgments of
young sex offenders with and without intellectual disabilities who had a history of sexual
offending. It was found in a previous study by Van Vugt, Stams, Dekovic, Brugman, Rutten and
Hendriks (2008) that immature moral judgment strongly related to delinquent behaviour. It was
considered that individuals with intellectual disabilities may be at an increased risk for offending
behaviours as their cognitive impairments could be problematic in the development of moral
judgment. Van Vugt et al., (2008) had found that moral judgment is in fact an important risk factor
for offending and reoffending behaviours in adolescent and adult offenders. This study used the
Sociomoral Reflection Measure Short Form (SRM SF) to assess the moral judgment with an
extension to questions that referred to general sexual situations and to the offenders victims. The
expectation was that the young sex offenders with intellectual disability would show low moral
judgments in all of the three moral judgment situations: general life, sexual and own abuse victim

Analysis of Anzia Yezierska s The Lost Beautifulness
Q1. The lost beautifulness by Anzia Yezierska In Anzia Yezierska s short story The lost
beautifulness, the protagonist Hanneh Hayyeh scrimps and saves to be able to paint her
apartment white to make it look respectable for her son Ady when he comes home from fighting
World War I. Hayyeh wants some kind of hope to cling to in her desperate immigrant s life.
Although the dialect of the characters is Russian Jewish and the setting is in an early 20th century
urban environment, the idea of immigrant aspirations and the conflict between rich and poor is a
common theme in American literature. Initially, people make fun of Hanneh because they think
she is overly enamored with her wonderful son and even her husband dislikes how much money
she foolishly sinks into a property that is not her own. But they are eventually touched by the care
and concern she puts into her apartment to make it look better. However, her cruel landlord, the
only truly unlikeable character in the story, exploits Hanneh s hard work and raises her rent,
saying that in America that is how capitalism works ruthlessly. When he raises the rent, Hanneh
tries to give her landlord his comeuppance by destroying her handiwork, but in the process she
destroys her soul, effectively extinguishing her belief that everyone can make it in America. The
story is not judgmental of the wealthy Hanneh s employer Mrs. Preston is well aware of the
injustice of a world in which she eats strawberries and cream and Hanneh

Answer to Question 1 In the SANDC, there are 33 picking stations in the area where the tote
bins are moved to the bin to bin system of the picking areas. All of these picking stations have 12
of these bins on the lower levels and these 12 lower level bins represent stores which are to be

front of the person picking. The person picking picks as per the instructions of a system of pick
to light. Beside every bin is a display showing the number of items which are to be picked from
the upper bins. In the same way, lower bins also have a display showing the items to be
removed. The person who is performing the task of picking, is to complete the requirements of
each of the tasks being displayed and then press buttons accordingly to show that each of the tasks
that were displayed have, in fact, been completed. When this happens, the bin is returned to its
place by an automated system and the person has to now start picking from the second bin on the
upper hand. The bins on further ends keep replacing bins that are being completed as and when the
picker presses the buttons indicating completion. The bins that are completed are then transported
to a despatch buffer store and loaded into automated dolly machines. There are 10 of these tote
bins placed on each dolly machine which are then assembled in groups of three. Then a vehicle

The Theme Of Motivation In The Painted Door By Sinclair Ross
Motivation is the driving force behind all actions and reactions. It is the central influence behind
decisions made by the characters. It causes a dilemma that invokes an action which eventually leads
to the tragically ironic conclusions. As suggested in Sinclair Ross s The Painted Door , individuals
are affected through harsh situations that they come in contact with, and in order to move on they
must use these experiences as motivation for future decisions. What holds a relationship together?
In the short story The Painted Door , Sinclair Ross represents the importance of communication
which is the foundation of a healthy relationship in her theme Isolation through the main conflictof

Ann felt eager challenged, her desires for Steven were appearing without her awareness. There was
no thought or motive, no understanding of herself as the knowledge persisted. Their marriage has
neither communication nor happiness, cause by the conflict of Ann vs herself.
The dilemmas established from the nature of motivation, compel the characters to resolve their
conflicts. Ann is struggling in a mental and emotional anguish to find the importance in her life.
The conflict arises in her decision to gratify her goal; the satisfaction she seeks for in life which
is the love and support of her faithful husband. In addition the conflict results from Ann vs society,
she feels as though she can t connect to society because John never talks, he doesn t
understand...maybe he ll have Steven come again, and some other young people, too. It s what we
need, both of us, to help keep young ourselves . Even though John s ignorance towards his wife s
emotional needs create issues between them, Ann fails to stop herself from being attracted to
Stevens appeal, she tries to impress him by changing to another dress, hair rearranged .
Furthermore, it is true that marriage can sometime result in peoples miserable conditions. As a
result of Ann s actions she came to realization that even after cheating with Steven her guilt leads
her to realize that only with John she can be emotionally fulfilled. John was the man...with him lay

Leopard Man Essay
It would be a good idea to change your feelings, looks, beliefs, or actions because you could have
friends just like you, you can be different but be yourself. It may be safer, or better to be a
conformist because you can fit in and no one will make fun of you or judge you if you fit in. If
you would want to changeyour beliefs that would be a big change, but if that s what you want to
do that s ok but just know you re changing on what you believe in. The dangers of conforming
could be trouble because maybe you start to change your body and looks so that would mean it
would be much harder to get a job. Their are pros and cons to changing yourself the pros may
sound better but they re not. Like look at Leopard Man, well if you don t know Leopard... Show

Feys is saying that society is pressuring us to all change, but in reality you don t see much people
change themselves. Feys says to be a human you need talents, taste, values, and dreams, but I
don t believe that I believe all humans are humans by being themselves by doing what they want
they don t need talents to be human. The author talks about how Leopard Man has changed for
society s demand, but Leopard Man says he did not change for the society he said he s on a
paradise which is earth and society can keep what they got. I just don t believe with what Feys
says in most of this article because what evidence does he show how a human should be a
human. Logan Feys just doesn t know what he is talking about I think that because if you read
paragraph 2 he says people that change are desperate for society s attention, but then if you read
paragraph 9 he said he doesn t judge people when clearly he judged saying they want attention.
For my personal experience I don t judge people that change if they change for happiness that s
fine, but they don t change for attention why would they change their whole body just to get
attention i ve never witnessed it but I do not think that is how it goes. This is why I disagree with

The Failure Of The Spanish Armada
The Spanish Armada was a fleet sent by Philip II of Spain to fight against Queen Elizabeth I in an
effort to defeat Protestant England. The Spanish Armada is interesting because its defeat came
unexpectedly when a fleet of 130 ships and 30,000 men were defeated by a smaller scale counter
attacking convoy that was sent by the English. The nation s current strategic planning was based on
mistakes from previous battles, such as the Spanish Armada. By learning from these mistakes, it will
help the army, navy, and military in future preparation for battles that they may have to face. While
planning and entering battle against England, the Spanish Armada faced constant misfortune,
which ultimately ended in defeat and failure; however, it influenced succeeding battles and
strategies.
The Spanish Armada had major flaws that resulted in its defeat that began from its sudden
planning for an invasion. Philip II wanted revenge on England for the execution of Queen Mary of
Scots, a Catholic monarch. Moreover, She was beheaded because Queen Elizabeth wanted to
prevent a Catholic from reigning over the English throne, ending Philip s hope of a Catholic
monarch. Consequently, Philip made a rash decision to surprise England with an attack that didn t
take as much thought as many successful armadas have taken. After deciding to gain revenge on
Queen Elizabeth, the decision to mount a full scale invasion of England was taken suddenly and
irrevocably (Parker). The improper planning on

Bart Ehrman s Definition Of Myth
Bart Ehrman believes the chapter of Genesis is a myth. The term myth has many different
definitions though so let s see what he meant when he said myth. Ehrman s definition of a myth
is, a story about God or gods and their activities, which tries to make sense of the world and our
place in it , In Ehrman s eyes, the book of Genesis (in this case chapters 1 11) is just a story, no
more real than the story of Cinderella. Looking at McCutcheon s list of different definitions of the
word myth, I find that Ehrman s definition best fits with Pre scientific explanations of natural
phenomena which basically says that myths are people trying to explain what they observe around
them, their environment. Ehrman believes that creation is a myth,

Health and Social Care Level 3 Assign3 Essay
3.1 Analyse why life expectancy has increase over the last century. Life expectancy in the human
race has risen dramatically in the past century reaching its highest level for both male and female
on record. Between 1981 and 2002 life expectancy at age 50 increases by four and a half years for
men and three years for women and two years respectively. By 2002 women who were age of 65
could expect to live to the age of 84 while men could expect to live to the age of 81. The primary
reason for the vast increase in life expectancy in developed countries in the 20th century is
universal clean drinking water and very high level of public and personal hygiene. These two
improvements account for probably 80%of the life expectancy. Overall life... Show more content on

Similarities Between Humans And Humans
It has long been acknowledged and recognised that humans differ greatly from the rest of the living
world. Throughout the years, numerous theories encompassing the past and present development of
living creatures have attempted to bridge the gap and produce a method in which we can categorise
both humans and animals. These have contributed to radical conclusions including theories
regarding humans as naturally superior and above other forms of life. This is a prevailing belief
that is flawed through a scientific lens, as humans are indeed still animals. Through extensive
scientific research, it is greatly supported that it is from primates with advanced dexterity and
sentience which humans evolved. This is made evident through the common... Show more content

Opposable thumbs have shown an evolutionary advantage, as their development has provided
humans with a range of purposes that have been beneficial to survival. Such benefits include,
however are not limited to, the grasping and handling of objects that enabled the creation of
weapons, as well as the operation and utilisation of tools and environmental resources.
Another way to distinguish humans from other animals is through a cognitive viewpoint. The
capacity of human cognition is unique when compared to other animals, and is most evidently seen
through the ability to communicate via language. Finally, on the cultural measure, humans are
unique and distinctive in their willingness to increase the chance of survival through limiting their
offspring.
What makes us humans? and What distinguishes us from other forms of life? are some general
questions with which humans have always been concerned. Many philosophies have been
constructed which shed light on the sequence of events that depict how humans came to be and
their association with other animals. Aside from the apparent biological characteristics that humans
and animals share, they also acquire traits that are to a degree, distinct from each other. An
excellent biological example is the gift of evolution to mankind, the opposable thumb. The
opposable thumb is of great value and use to humans. From climbing, grasping and throwing, the
possession of a thumb has revealed a whole new

Please Vote For Me Essay
Please Vote for Me is a documentary telling the tale of a third grade classroom voting for Class
Monitor. We are introduced to three candidates and during the course of the film watch these
young children try to gain the votes of their fellow classmates. Director Weijun Chen was the eye
behind the camera, this was his sixth project where he was in control. FIU provides ease of
access to many different media platforms such as Kanopy Streaming. This is a great site for
educational institutions that wish to allow access to over 26,000 videos a year, very impressive.
The film showed how democracywas implemented and the real time effects it had on CHina s

viewing the film you really did see the growth of these young kids, some only eight years of age.

The Philosophy Of Moral Philosophy
Moral Philosophy is rooted in four areas of standards, one of which is the central focus of
Hedonist thinking. The standard of moral philosophy that corresponds directly to Hedonism is
known as the Value Theory. The Value Theory establishes what is valuable in and of itself, what is
worth pursuing for its own sake 1. Goods that are valuable in their own right are intrinsic values, as
referred to in the previous sentence. Contrary to intrinsic values, instrumental goods have the ability
to lead to valuable things, but don t themselves hold significant value.
Hedonism, at its core, is centered around the pursuit of pleasure and the elimination of pain.
Consequently, when this balance obtained, Hedonist s will argue that an individual is leading a
tranquil life. Above all else, Hedonist philosophers John Stewart Mill and Epicurus, place pleasure
on a pedestal, in the way that pleasure stands alone when considering what is good in its own right.
Furthermore, they provide their insights on goes into the moral doctrine of Hedonism. The ultimate
good , according to the Hedonist school of thought, is always pleasure, however, this is not a united
stance by all philosophers 2. Opponents to Hedonist thinking, include Jean Kazez, Robert Nozick,
and Chris Heathwood. I argue that pleasure is not the only intrinsic good, rather it is one among
many other goods that hold intrinsic value. To assert my position, I will first discuss Epicurus and
Mill s explanation on what makes

Wegmans, The Middle Atlantic Grocery Chain
Introduction
Wegmans, the middle Atlantic grocery chain, has demonstrated a great deal of success in just less
than 100 years of operating. In those 100 or so years, Wegmans has become one of the most
respected and successful grocers in that region, if not the country. The reason for this success is the
commitment that Wegmans has put in place. Wegmans follows an extremely detailed plan, that
allows for them to have a great grasp on what sort of inventory the stores need to keep on hand.
Wegmans also is a leader in the area of sustainability. As Wegmans continues growing their footprint,
they will continue to implement these processes and continue to be a leader in the grocery industry.
Process Management Since Wegmans Food Markets, Inc. was founded in 1916 as the Rochester
Fruit and Vegetable Company by John Wegman the company has grown to be one of the largest
privately owned companies in the United States (Ezzedan, Hyde, Laurin, 2006, p. 298). The
highly ranked company, based in Rochester, New York, has branched out into other major cities in
the New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Virginia areas. Recognized by Fortune magazine as
a best company to work for, a single Wegmans superstore typically employs five hundred to six
hundred employees (Stevenson, 2015, p. 33). Wegmans success is built on continual business
process management. Wegmans uses this process to implement innovative efforts to provide the

Negative Effects Of Palm Oil
There is an abundance of atrocities facing the modern world that we live in, but one of the most
important and critically pressing of these atrocities is often overlooked. The very ecosystems
and resources that we rely so heavily on for the success of our global economies are being
exploited at a rate that will have catastrophic consequences on the future of our economic success,
as well as drive a large portion of the worlds biodiversity into extinction. Among the most prevalent
case of environmental degradation and biodiversity loss includes the rapid deforestation and loss
of biodiversity that is caused by the production of palm oilin the South Asian countries Indonesia
and Malaysia. Many may argue that this rapid deforestation is simply due to the rapidly growing
global population, whereas many others view this issue as the effect of greed and consumerism
that surrounds a capitalistic market. The production of this forest risk commodity is responsible
for the absurd rate of deforestation in Indonesia and Malaysia, has a profoundly negative effect on
the biodiversity located in Indonesia and Malaysia, and can best be explained from a political
economy standpoint. Palm oil is a key component in the production of a vast array of products that
span over many different industries such as the consumer retail food industry, the personal care and
cosmetics industry, the biofuel industry, and the pharmaceutical industry. It is estimated that

Comparison Between Good And Evil In Dr Jekyll And Mr Hyde
Good Vs. Evil in Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde The battle line between good and evil runs through the
heart of every man. (Solzhenitsyn) In the story Dr.Jekyll and Mr. Hyde by Robert Louis
Stevenson, Dr.Jekyll has this battle of good and evil within himself. He has the idea to separate
his evil half known as Mr. Hyde with a potion. Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde focuses on duality of man
and human nature. Stevenson develops the theme of good and evilthroughout the story using the
setting, characters, and the city of London. In the beginning of the story Mr. Utterson, a lawyer,
and Mr. Enfield, a doctor, are taking their normal sunday stroll, as they are walking they pass by
a house that catches their attention. This house seems out of place, to be in the neighborhood
they re in because they are in a richer neighborhood and the door on the house looks old and
rugged. Which reminds Mr.Enfield of a story of a girl whom he witnessed getting trampled one
night, and how he made the evil man who trampled her pay money to cover what he had done.
The trampling of the girl is represented as an evil thing. Strangely, the check contained the name
of a very respectable man which aroused Enfield s suspicions about the check. Enfield refuses to
reveal the name on the check. However we find out that the evil man is actually Hyde and he
wrote a check signed by Jekyll. No one has heard of Mr. Hyde so Mr. Utterson makes it his
mission to find out more about Mr. Hyde. Utterson is a lawyer and, in fact he is Dr. Jekyll s
lawyer he opens a safe that had Jekyll s will in it. He looks over it for a long time. The terms in
the will say all of the doctor s possessions are to pass into the hands of his friend Edward Hyde if
Dr. Jekyll disappears or has an unexplained absence. Utterson goes to visit Dr. Lanyon. He thinks
that Lanyon can explain Dr. Jekyll s relationship to Hyde. Lanyon greets his friend into his home,
and the two men talk for a while till Utterson says to Lanyon that they are probably two of the
oldest friends that Henry Jekyll has. Lanyon replies that he hasn t seen much of Jekyll for years,
ever since Jekyll ...became too fanciful... and ...wrong in mind... (Stevenson,11).Which infers
something of the evil act.

  • 2. The Origin of Migrant Farmworkers Essay The Mexican Migrant Farm Workers community formed in Southern California in the 20th century because of two factors that came together: farming emphasized by migrations like the Okie farmers from the East and Mexicans imported to the U.S. because of the need for cheap labor as a replacement of Americans during World War II. The migrant labor group formed after an already similar group in the U.S had been established in California, the American farm workers from the East, known as the Okies. The Dust Bowlof the 1930s caused the movement of the Okies to the West and was followed by the transition from American dominant farm labor to Mexican migrant labor. The Okies reinforced farming in California through the skills they took with them,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Thousands of families journeyed to California, settling in San Joaquin Valley. From 1930 to 1936, the Dust Bowl caused damages in agriculture in the Central Valleys all the way to the East Coast of the U.S. At the time, the majority of the farmers were from Oklahoma, in other words, they were American. Although most of the farmers fleeing the Dust Bowl were U.S born, some were Mexican Americans living in Texas, Arizona and the states closer to the border (Gregory). However, this event did not fully give rise to the Mexican Migrant Farm Workers community. It was instead, the beginnings of successful farm labor in the valleys of California, which transformed California s view towards farming. California seemed perfect, the climate was good for a diversity of crops and it promised a lot to the desolated farmers from the East. Why was this significant to the formation of the Mexican Migrant community? In other words, if the Dust Bowl would not have happened, then farm labor would have not been as significant in California as it is. Californians would have continued mining and building factories in soils that today, are used primarily for agriculture. James N. Gregory, professor at the University of Washington argues that The twentieth century drained rural Americans from the land as surely as it improved the technology and efficiency of farming as he discusses the effects of the ... • 3. The Origin Of English Language Codification The linguistic term codification refers to the process of standardizing and developing a norm of a language (Revolvy, 2017). In addition, it means the methods of creation and use of the dictionary through designing writing system and setting grammar rules. According to Einar Haugen codification leads to minimal variation in form (Stein Tieken Boon van Ostade, n.d. 1994: p160), therefore it reinforces a certain variety which has been selected and accepted. Even though codification is the second stage in the standardization, it is ongoing process. The origin of English language codification was back to the 16th century, when many of dictionaries and grammar books had published with a view of teaching the language to Welsh noblemen after the Act of Union between Wales and England in 1536. These dictionaries contained a list of hard words, mostly loanwords which adopted and borrowed from other languages, or sometimes invented. Robert Cawdery produced the first English dictionary in (1604). It lists about 3000 words, with a brief simple description for each. He aimed to codify a language, to let readers understand hard words. (Bl.uk, 2017) By the 18th century, scholars developed codification, due to considering it as a recognized activity. For that authors and scholars such as John Walker and Thomas Sheridan started to write materials so as to set down perspective norms for pronunciation and grammar. Unlike European countries which established academies for codification, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Accounting Fraud and Management philosophy will be the main discussion topics, along with the motivations of fraud. The fall of Enron can be directly attributed to a violation of ethical standards in business. This makes Enronunique in corporate history for the same actions that made Enron on of the fastest growing and most profitable corporations, at the turn of the 21st century, also bout about its destruction. This paper does not explore legal consequences, only the ethical dimension of Enron s actions. Enron Corporation: Ethics Case Study and Personal Reflection Capitalism is an amoral system that follows protocol of mechanical laws of supply and demand. Over the course of two centuries our country has tried to introduce ethics and morality into economic constructs. Anti trust, labor laws, and regulation have been our attempts to introduce an ethical element into an otherwise unfeeling system of exchange. • 5. Descriptive Dream One morning, the piercing sound of alarm clock brought me back to life. When I woke up from unsettling dreams, trying to stretch my arms and legs and to reach for my phone but found myself turned into an unicorn. Lying on my back with rainbow colored hair and tail in my small bed, and when I looked up and down, my giant, sharp horn on my forehead and my snow white belly appeared in my view. My enormous legs took up three quarters of the bed. I have to squeeze my gigantic body to fit in. What a wonderful and bizarre dream. Luckily it s only a dream. But everything seemed real. My bedroom, pictures of my family and friends hanging on the wall. My desk with my homework I worked on last night, but too tiny compared to my size now, my comfy couch sitting next to my bed. And my messy closet with a giant teddy bear sleeping on the floor. I stared at the window, the not so perfect weather to start a Monday. Dark clouds devoured the sun and sky. The tree danced in the wind. Maybe falling back to sleep helps me forgetting this joke, I thought, but impossible. I opened my eyes and saw my white belly and my long unicornlegs. Hours past by, still no change. I stopped trying with a pain in my chest that I had never felt before. Where s my phone? I thought, glancing around. Found my phone lying on its back and plugged in. I tried to grab it from my desk, but I made a horrible decision. My leg shoved the lamp and the homework on the ground as I unplugged my phone. I whined and tried ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Which means we are only a few more weeks away from NFL training camps beginning across the country. Training camp is a time for veteran guys to get their work in, rookies to get established to the NFL and other players to step up and make a name for themselves. The 2015 season in the NFL was fun as we saw rookies and two year players come of age playing prominent roles on their respective teams. With that being said, can those players who showed up last season become household names in 2016? Here are five players that will be household names this season: 1. Arizona Cardinals RB David Johnson: Johnson burst onto the scene as a third round pick out of Northern Iowa, giving the Cardinals a true three headed monster at running back with Chris Johnson and Andre Ellington. Head coach Bruce Arians knew for the Cardinals to be successful they had to have a formidable rushing attack. Johnson gave them just that as he made an impact in the Cardinals regular season opener against the New Orleans Saints, where he only had one reception but made it count as he took it 55 yards for a touchdown. That was a sign of things to come as the next week against the Chicago Bears, Johnson had 108 yard kickoff return for a touchdown. Johnson would finish the season with 13 total touchdowns, 581 rushing and 457 receiving yards. He is a perfect fit for the Cardinals offense and expect more NFL fans to get know about the speedy back from ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Essay On Health Disparity In African American Men The higher incidence of prostate cancer in African American/Black men compared to other racial /ethnic groups is a major health disparity. The statistics surrounding this health disparity are scary, with African American men having a prostate cancer mortality rate twice as high as whites and a prostate cancerincidence two thirds higher (Modlin, 2012). The health disparity of African American men s incidence of prostate canceris a huge problem from a public health perspective because it makes African American men less productive, there are higher costs in the healthcare field than would be if the gap didn t exist, and a loss of sense of control from African American men because of financial concerns/aftermath of treatment. One behavioral influence... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A biological influence on this health disparity is a genetic predisposition seen in African American men. Several studies have shown a chromosome that is more common in African American men that increases the risk of prostate cancer. The chromosome is 8q24 variants, which is the most commonly seen, as well as, BCL2 and EphB2 linking to a higher incidence of prostate cancer (Modlin, 2012). The genetic predisposition has also been proven to cause prostate cancer to be a more aggressive disease in African Americans, likely leading to the higher mortality rates. The behavioral influence of being less likely to get screened and the biological influence of a genetic predisposition interact to influence the health disparity. There is no way of changing the genetic predisposition so that already puts African American men in a place for higher incidence. Being they already have that higher incidence due to genetics, adding into the equation African Americans being less likely to be screened only makes the health disparity ... • 9. Essay On Ethical Issues In Iron Man In 2008, the film Iron Man was released. The film follows Tony Stark, a wealthy businessman and engineer who transforms himself from a military arms supplier into a super hero, Iron Man, by building himself a mechanical suit. Throughout the film, Tony Stark makes several ethical decisions that impact the lives of many. The film opens with Tony Stark visiting Afghanistan to demonstrate his weapons capabilities. After a successful demonstration, he is ambushed and injured, and captured by local terrorists who demand that he build the weapons system that he had just previously just demonstrated. He refuses however, after being tortured and seeing the life of the doctor who saved his life being threatened, he lies to his captors and says that he will consent to building the weapons system. He instead takes up the project of building a mechanical suit to help him and the doctor escape. Here we arrive at his first major ethical decision. Lying to terrorists may seem like an easy decision, however in this case it puts the life of another individual at risk. If caught he and the man who saved his life will be killed. He completes the suit and manages to escape. As he returns to the United States, he immediately calls a press conference where he informs the press that his company will no longer produce weapons. This is another major ethical decision made by Tony Stark. This decision was made to prevent loss of innocent life and to keep the weapons out of the hands of terrorists. ... As humans establish groups, groups form collectives, and collectives constitute institutions, memories are legitimated, solidified, or erased entirely. While reading an individual memoir often reveals the depth of human sentimentality, studying collective memoryoften illuminates the fundamental relationship between powerful institutions and the knowledge it immortalizes or obfuscates. Banton has written many songs based on sociopolitical topics, some of which have received great criticism and nearly ended his career. Untold Stories was released in the 1995 album Til Shiloh and it displayed many topics which had been forgotten by dancehall audiences. The song related in great measure to the popular issues in society such as poverty, crime, corruption of the government and the degradation of the younger generation. Banton sang about the corruption of the government and their disregard for the Caribbean people. This is noticed when he says, While our leaders play. Through this line it can be observed that the government had full control of the finances of the country which they used for their benefit. This implies that the leaders of the Caribbean countries take no heed of the needs of their people but only seek to enjoy the countries money. This statement is true throughout the contemporary Caribbean society as many leaders neglect their duties as leaders and instead focus on their self needs. In Jamaican dialect this is described through the term politricks since many politicians have mastered the art of deception, resulting in them being able to convince the public that whatever they are doing is for the best. The corruption of the government therefore, is not fully perceived by the public and this can be interpreted from the line, The full has never been told. According to Hodges, The implication is that, if the full ever were told, the tricksters would be exposed and the trick turned on them . This also indicates just how well the leaders are capable of deceiving the public. Ergo it can be deduced that the corruption of the public is a major issue still in the ... I hope you still remember the bell shape of the standard deviation graph! That is ok, if you do not. I will briefly do my best to summarize it. The Standard Deviation (SD) is the average distance from the mean. In a normal distribution, the standard deviation is the standard that is 34 % of the cases to the right that would be one positive standard deviation and 34% to the left and that would be one negative SD. Z score for chemistry= (70 60)/1= 1 Z score for physics= (80 75)/10= 0.5 We can say that Mary s score for chemistry was 1 SD above the class mean and physics was 0.5 above the class mean. Let s do some more practices! ***The following four cases are based on a normal distribution of scores with Mean = 75 and the SD = 6.38. ВҐWhat is the probability of a score falling between a raw score of 70 and 80? We are in Olive oil business and we would like to know the probability of selling 70 to 80 bottles? The average mean is 75 and the SD is 6.38 Z= (70 75)/6.38= 0.78 Z= (80 75)/6.38= 0.78 Once we get the z score, we want to convert it to probability values. We know at 1value it is 34% but we have only 0.78. We will use the appendix D that is on the screen, find 0.78 in section A (z value) and run your finger to section B (area between mean and Z). The results are 0.2823 convert in %; which is 28.23%. One thing, there is no negative z values in the appendix because it symmetrical. So to the right of the mean it is 28.23% and to the left 28.23%; with a total % of 56.46%. The probability of selling 70 to 80 bottles would be 56.46%. Should the government have unlimited access to citizen s personal information, conversations, and text in order to protect the country? Or should the government have more of a laissez faire type role in citizen s private lifestyles? Across the world, there are different approaches on the governments surveillanceon people. Iceland s policies are the least intrusive in the world, with almost no surveillance and laws protecting the people s freedom of speech. When this is complete, the government will be able to watch and identify any citizen in their country. This idea was derived from a communist party slogan by Mao Zedong, The masses have sharp eyes . Their premise of the slogan was that the government relied on people to keep an eye and ear on their neighbors and report anything wrong that they see. • 20. Censorship, Media Manipulation, And Betrayal In George Orwell s novel, 1984, he incorporates the major themes of censorship, media manipulation, and betrayal. The citizens of Oceania are constantly bombarded with different forms of propaganda, including the posters stating BIG BROTHER IS WATCHING and the Party s slogans, WAR IS PEACE, FREEDOM IS SLAVERY, and IGNORANCE IS STRENGTH. Giant telescreens constantly run streams of propaganda in hopes of making the Party appear superior to the Brotherhood. According to Big Brother, sexual interactions should be kept to a minimum and only occur to populate and produce more Party supporters. The Party strongly encourages the children of Oceania to join the Junior Spies, an organization that brainwashes them to report their parents or guardians if they feel they are being disloyal to the Party and Big Brother. Nothing is private in the territory of Oceania; technological mechanisms, such as small microphones and helicopters acting as drones, are installed throughout to constantly monitor its members. As media manipulation evolves and the citizens become further brainwashed, individuals have a big decision to make, whether to rebel against the Party or betray their old ways of life. Austen uses humor as a tool to show the readers what behavior is acceptable and what is not. Behaving above your rank is one of these social faux pas. Accounts of his early psychiatric cases, as related to his assistants at Bughholzli, provide an interesting overview of Jung as an individual as well as his formative ideas in the field of psychotherapy and analysis. These early cases and the conclusions he draws from them are, much like his predecessor and one time colleague, Sigmund Freud, sometimes revolutionary and brilliant. Yet, as I had stated in my earlier paper on Jung, I also found there to be a frustratingly limited and seemingly biased quality to much of this work that, I felt, said as much about Jung the person as it did about the work itself. I also felt that this frustration was compounded by the fact that Jung openly criticized and departed from what he felt was non progressive methodologies and ideologies of Freud and other contemporaries. Employers typically match employee savings at a rate of 50 cents on the dollar. Defined contribution plans are more popular than defined benefit plans in both small and large companies (Milkovich and Newman, 2008). Historically these plans are faster to vest (the companies matched share of the contribution permanently shifts over to employee ownership, and they are more portable job hopping employees can take their pension accruals along to the next job) (Milkovich and Newman, 2008). These literature reviews address Public Administration Theories in their similarities and differences to the societal trends that affect the leadership, policies and decision making that affect the California HCD in carrying out its mission in affordable housing and community development. The Theory of Human Motivation by AH Maslow (1943) (Shafritz Hyde, 2012) states human needs arrange themselves in hierarchies of pre potency. This is to say one needs rest on the prior satisfaction of another, more pre potent need. Man is a perpetually wanting animal. In addition, no need or drive can be treated as if it were isolated or discrete; every drive is related to the state of satisfaction or dissatisfaction of other drives. Motivation theory is not synonymous with the behavior theory. The motivations are only one class of determinants of behavior. While behavior is usually motivated, it is also usually biologically, culturally and situationally determined as well (Shafritz Hyde, 2012). In Shakespeare s play, Hamlet and Laertes show some comparisons and contrasts which give an abundance of interest to the play. In fact, Hamlet and Laertes display impulsive reactions when angered; both have fathers killed, and both are seeking revenge. Even so, both characters display a considerable likeness, which is trying to protect the same person, Ophelia. It is important to realize that both loved her, but in different ways. On the other hand, Hamlet had a lovely mother who was the Queen and Laertes never had a mother figure in his life (Shmoop web). One of those Hamlet s characteristics revealed in the play depicts him as an individual who was not naturally vengeful, but he was loyal to his father. Therefore, he swore an oath to his father to seek revenge. Also, Hamlet did not want to endanger his friends into the dangerous mission of seeking revenge against the new King, so he urged his friends to shake hands and become part of it, swearing in faith. He was not sure if the ghost was really his father rather than a deceitful demon (Hamlet trailers). Therefore, he staged the Mousetrap to verify Claudius guilt. • 31. Chemical Control Of The Colorado Potato Beetle INTRODUCTION Pests are nuisances, vectors for disease, and hinder the production of food and other goods. Pests contribute to roughly 14% of the destruction of the world s annual agricultural output. Additionally, they are vectors that allow for the transmission of many pathogens (Windley, 2012). The exact date that pesticides were implemented into the practice of agriculture is unknown; however, it is estimated that it likely has been around since the inception of early farming techniques. For instance, sulfur was recorded to have been used as a chemical control for mites and insects as early as 12000BC (Jones 1973). One common insecticide used in the Middle Ages in Persia and ancient China consisted of an ingredient from the Dalmatian pyrethrum flowers. Containing 1.5% of pyrethrin, the Dalmatian pyrethrum was the origin of an active insecticidal substance (Davies et al, 2007). Paris green (copper(II) acetate triarsenite or copper(II) acetoarsenite) was a key component in the chemical control of the Colorado potato beetle during its application in 1871 (Alyokhin 2009). The historical evidence of regular utilization of these insect deterrents indicates an awareness by early agriculturists of the interactions between pest and the unique properties of chemicals that destroy them. Furthermore, it is becoming more of a necessity to support the sustainability of the needs of an ever growing population of humans. When this happens, the bin is returned to its place by an automated system and the person has to now start picking from the second bin on the upper hand. The bins on further ends keep replacing bins that are being completed as and when the picker presses the buttons indicating completion. • 45. The Failure Of The Spanish Armada The Spanish Armada was a fleet sent by Philip II of Spain to fight against Queen Elizabeth I in an effort to defeat Protestant England. The Spanish Armada is interesting because its defeat came unexpectedly when a fleet of 130 ships and 30,000 men were defeated by a smaller scale counter attacking convoy that was sent by the English. The nation s current strategic planning was based on mistakes from previous battles, such as the Spanish Armada. By learning from these mistakes, it will help the army, navy, and military in future preparation for battles that they may have to face. While planning and entering battle against England, the Spanish Armada faced constant misfortune, which ultimately ended in defeat and failure; however, it influenced succeeding battles and strategies. The Spanish Armada had major flaws that resulted in its defeat that began from its sudden planning for an invasion. Philip II wanted revenge on England for the execution of Queen Mary of Scots, a Catholic monarch. Moreover, She was beheaded because Queen Elizabeth wanted to prevent a Catholic from reigning over the English throne, ending Philip s hope of a Catholic monarch. Consequently, Philip made a rash decision to surprise England with an attack that didn t take as much thought as many successful armadas have taken. After deciding to gain revenge on Queen Elizabeth, the decision to mount a full scale invasion of England was taken suddenly and irrevocably (Parker). The improper planning on ... The standard of moral philosophy that corresponds directly to Hedonism is known as the Value Theory. The Value Theory establishes what is valuable in and of itself, what is worth pursuing for its own sake 1. Goods that are valuable in their own right are intrinsic values, as referred to in the previous sentence. Contrary to intrinsic values, instrumental goods have the ability to lead to valuable things, but don t themselves hold significant value. Hedonism, at its core, is centered around the pursuit of pleasure and the elimination of pain. Consequently, when this balance obtained, Hedonist s will argue that an individual is leading a tranquil life. He has the idea to separate his evil half known as Mr. Hyde with a potion. Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde focuses on duality of man and human nature. In the beginning of the story Mr. Utterson, a lawyer, and Mr. Enfield, a doctor, are taking their normal sunday stroll, as they are walking they pass by a house that catches their attention. This house seems out of place, to be in the neighborhood they re in because they are in a richer neighborhood and the door on the house looks old and rugged. Which reminds Mr.Enfield of a story of a girl whom he witnessed getting trampled one night, and how he made the evil man who trampled her pay money to cover what he had done. The trampling of the girl is represented as an evil thing. Strangely, the check contained the name of a very respectable man which aroused Enfield s suspicions about the check. Enfield refuses to reveal the name on the check. However we find out that the evil man is actually Hyde and he wrote a check signed by Jekyll.
