Argumentative Essay Sample Outline
Crafting an essay on the topic "Argumentative Essay Sample Outline" can be both challenging
and rewarding. The difficulty lies in the need to strike a balance between presenting a clear,
concise outline and providing compelling arguments to support the chosen stance. The process
involves thorough research to gather relevant information, understanding the nuances of

One of the challenges is selecting a stance that not only aligns with personal beliefs but also has
sufficient evidence to support it. This requires a careful evaluation of different perspectives on

International Organizations And Collective Security
The United Nations has worked to maintain peace and stability in the global
community, but has experienced numerous failures in establishing a system of
collective security. The purpose of this paper is to analyze why international
organizations, such as the UN have been ineffective in achieving their goal of
establishing a system of economic, political, and social stability via a collective
security system. First, a brief discussion of the history of the UN and collective
security is provided. Second, a discussion about the ineffectiveness of the UN is
provided. Third, a discussion of the issues facing the global community is provided.
Lastly, a discussion of how the issues of collective security will impact economic
development in less developed countries.
The United Nations was established on the idea of creating a system that used
collective security. Collective security is a state of interdependence that prevents
one nation state from imposing on the rights of another without consequences on a
global political, economic, and social scale. In recent years, the UN has
acknowledged an increasing need for a system on the basis of developing a system
that would protect the sovereign rights of the states. Collective security is a principle
ideology that catalyzed after WWII. After WWII, world leaders saw the need to
develop a system that would prevent any other major war or conflict. After the First
World War, The League of Nations (1920), an intergovernmental organization
Tooth Erosion
Tooth erosion happens when the enamel that protects your teeth is eventually worn
down. Tooth erosion commonly occurs from the constant consumption of highly
acidic foods and drinks. Erosion can also be a result of frequent vomiting during
pregnancy. Due to morning sickness, you may have a higher chance of eroding the
enamel around your teeth. Once the enamel is worn down, this can open the door for
tooth decay and bacterial infection. Slight tooth sensitivity may be a sign that you are
experiencing tooth erosion. It is important to catch tooth erosion early on. Luckily,
there are a few tips that you can use in order to prevent tooth erosion during
pregnancy. Rinse with Warm Salt Water Immediately After Vomiting Morning

The Downfalls Of Colonial Women In Colonial America
Some women fear the fire, some women simply become it. R.H. Sin. During
Colonial America, women weren t as valued as in current day. In Colonial times,
women worked around the house, didn t have legals rights, some were wealthy and
others were slaves and others lived in the city.
As young girls, most women learned how to work around the house, which they
most likely learned from their mother. Few women throughout the colonies had a
proper education, as some couldn t even read or write. But, because women worked
in their household, these skills were not necessary. Due to the amount of tasks that
needed to be accomplished, women worked very hard. Some of their chores included
sewing clothes, cooking, baking, making sure the house is kept clean and the list
goes on.
One of the many downfalls of being a colonial women is not having any legal rights.
Women in these times didn t have the right to vote, nor the right to hold public office.
As a married women, whatever belongs to you now belongs your husband. Also, as a
married woman your identity was all in your husband,so you were basically owned by
him. On the other hand, as an unmarried woman or a widow you gained more rights.
Though, if you are unmarried you have to make a living for yourself and you can t
lean on your husband for support. You were allowed to own your own land, which
was a big step up from being property of your husband. Also, women were allowed
to make wills, sell property and sign contracts. After the
Why Did Steven Spielberg A Game Changer

He s had to go through extremely stressful scenarios to become the phenomenal
director he is today. In my opinion, the most important moment in his movie making
carrier was directing Jaws. That was the movie that started it all for Spielberg. When
he was assigned the job of directing the 1974 novel by Peter Benchley, Steven s
career was now recognized by big Hollywood studios. Very soon production
nightmares happened on the set of Jaws. Spielberg realized a very big problem,
We started the film without a script, without a cast and without a shark (Richard
Dreyfus). Spielberg was over budget, over schedule, and overwhelmed. The
mechanical shark used in the film would break due to the salt water so Spielberg
had to come up with interesting ways to not show it. That is why the movie rarely
shows the shark. The young director woke up every day fearing he
The Relationship Between Politics And Administration In...
The idea of civil service dates back to ancient times. But bureaucracy is modern terms
that evolved with the emergence of Public Administration as an academic field.
Politics administration dichotomy is one of the most important factor in the Study of
Public Administration by Woodrow Wilson in 1887 (Afegbua: 2013). Nature of
administration, the extent of work by bureaucracyand many other issues are
characterized by the relationship between politics and administration. Bangladesh has
experienced different forms of government regime from military autocratic to
democratic republic. Before liberation, it experienced government system under
British Colonialism and government by Pakistan as it was part of Pakistan earlier.
Due to the variation in the forms of government the relations between politics and
administration were also different.
The Bangladesh Public Service Commission (PSC) is one of the most important
pillars of the National Integrity System having a key role in promoting excellence
and integrity in the public service and administration of the country. PSC s
independence, political neutrality, transparency, accountability, integrity and

include holding of competitive examinations for recruitment to the public service,

The Use of Performance Enhancing Drugs in Sports Today
Performance enhancers are very prominent in professional sports today. A lot of
players are facing suspensions and other penalties for using them. The sport that gets
scrutinized the most for this is Baseball. Many former users in the MLB (or
formally the NABBP) have come out saying that they were using these drugs while
playing. Some of these players are Jorge Sosa, Antonio Bastardo, and the famous
Alex Rodriguez. Although these drugs have been prohibited, players are still finding
ways around the tests which is why in some other countries they are legal so that no
one player can have an unfair advantage. There have been many arguments and
disputes about the origin of the sport known as baseball. This has led many people to
wonder where America s favorite pastime came from. Some people believe that the
sport has taken shape from a primeval community game called rounders. Other
historical sources remark that Thomas Wilson condemned this game and a few
other sports. In England he was considered a conformist leader. These speculations
have led to curiosity to the game of stool ball. In this game, the batter would stand in
front of a stool while a different person pitched him the ball. If the batter s ball was
caught in the field he would be out. Also, if the ball hit the stool that was behind the
batter, he would again be out. (http://www.historyofbaseball.us/)

The Effects of ADHD in Children and How it Affects Their School Life ADHD
really affects the way a child develops. ADHD stands for Attention Deficit
Hyperactivity Disorder and it is a neurobehavioral disorder that causes overactivity,
behavioral disinhibition, and poor attention span (Lassen, 2016). Children with
ADHD can be easily distracted, delayed learning, bad memory, and have difficulty
with social skills, leading to them falling behind in school and making it difficult
to stay caught up with their peers. ADHD was originally identified in 1902 by Sir
George Still, a British pediatrician. Still described it as an abnormal defect of moral
control in children. It wasn t recognized as a disorder until 1968 when they added
it to the 2nd edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders,
also known as the DSM II. At that point of time, it was called hyperkinetic impulse
disorder. When the 3rd edition of the DSM was published in 1980, the name was
changed to Attention Deficit Disorder, also known as, ADD. ADD had two subtypes.
Subtype 1 was ADD with hyperactivity and subtype 2 was ADD without
hyperactivity. In 1987, they combined the 2 subtypes, removed the hyperactivity
distinction, and changed the name to ADHD (Holland Higuera, 2015). When the 4th
edition of the DSM came out in 2000, three subtypes were established and they are
still used today. Subtype 1 is combined type ADHD, subtype 2 is predominantly
inattentive type ADHD, and subtype 3 is
A Note On Vision, And Empowering Others
Introduction to the Topic
Robert F. Dees, Major General, U.S. Army, Retired, in sharing about leading in
times of crisis states, crisis defines the character of the leader (Dees, 2013, p.204).
He shares three important questions that should be considered by any leading
through crisis. Do you know your soldiers? Do your soldiers know your voice? Do
your troops know you need them? These key questions are answered through the
concepts of leading with vision, Leading by example, and empowering others (page
ref??).
Three Concepts
Based upon the governing of the group charter and the consensus reached in the
group discussion the topics of vision, leading by example, and empowering others.
Vision

When discussing effective skills, leading by example, or servant leadership, is a
recurring theme. Boiral, Talbot, PaillГ© (2013) argue, Leading by example is
critical, as studies have consistently shown that managers commitment to the
environment is too often superficial, ceremonial and more focused on appearances
than substance.
Empowering Others
After leading by example, it is easy to transition to empowering others. When a
manager does not feel the need to exert the power of his/her employees, they are
able to view the group as a team with a common goal. When followers know that an
organization truly needs them, they are empowered to go beyond the normal practices.
Spiritual Integration
The Bible speaks of vision in relaying, where there is no vision, the people perish
(Proverbs 29:18 KJV) also noting the importance of keeping to the truth provided by
God. In times of crisis having a plan is essential. The more you and your staff have
thought about what to do in an emergency, the less confusion there will be should
disaster strike (Chadderdon, n.d., p.1). Matthew 28: 19 20 reads,
Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the
Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have
commanded you. And

Ascorbic Iodine Experiment
Two beakers were labeled ascorbic acid (C6H8O6) and iodine (I2). About 75.0 mL
of standard ascorbic acid solution was measured in a graduated cylinder. It was then
placed in the beaker labeled ascorbic solution. About 100.0 mL of iodine solution
was measured using a graduated cylinder. The measured solution was then placed in
the beaker labeled iodine. From the iodine previously gathered, about 55.0 mL was
measured and placed into the burette. All of the solution did not fit into the burette.
The burette was filled until the iodine solution was at the 0.0 mL mark. A table
chart was created to record all the data collected during the experiment. The first
data table was labeled standardized data. Only one column was needed. It was
labeled run one. The rows on the table were labeled final burette volume, initial
burette volume, mL of iodine solution, mg of ascorbic acidin solution, and mg
ascorbic acidin solution over mL of iodine solution. This data chart was used
throughout the experiment. After the table was created, the initial burette volume
was recorded as 0.21 mL. A 125 mL flask was then filled with 25.0 mL of the
ascorbic acid solution from the beaker labeled ascorbic acid. 10 drops of 1% starch
indicator was added to the ascorbic acid inside the flask. The two solutions were then
mixed together by swirling the flask. The solution within the flask was a clear liquid.
The flask was placed under the burette containing the iodine solution. Small amounts

Fences By August Wilson Summary
Fences is a short story in which August Wilson, the author, presents an view of
racism, understanding the life of the African American, both male and female.
Fences, in the opinion of the New Historicist critics, cannot be interpreted without
reference to the time and place in which it was written. Fences was writing in the mid
to late twentieth century. New Historicism relates a text to the historical and cultural
contexts of the period in which it was created and the periods in which it was
critically evaluated. Although life was getting better in the sense of gaining
citizenship, this was also before the civil rights movement and just because African
Americans was gaining citizenship doesn t mean acceptance or understanding of the

Cezanne s The Large Bathers it is important to firstly understand the work which is
deemed to be influential. Cezanne s painting is certainly an influential piece. What
makes this piece of particular fascination is not the subject but the approach and
style. This is not an image of privileged people at leisure being depicted in an image
of beauty and glamor. Instead, the people featured are misshapen and distorted. This
is a long departure from the classical idea of a nude. Another interesting feature that...

The three paintings overall, have a significant part to play in the revolution of art.
Making a statement, portraying emotions and looking life while at the same time
challenging how art can be perceived. When these paintings were exhibited for the
first time, they must have been captivating, while at the same time as being an
inspiration, the artists have also distanced themselves from this work. As discussed
previously The Large Bathers is not a vivid image of beauty. Upon looking at the
Matisse s Bonheur de Vivre we see that ultimate departure. My interpretation is of
this painting is that it is certainly a contrast with the bright colors while at the same
time also having a somewhat distorted view of reality and of the human form. This
painting was certainly significant in making a bold statement of the human form as
well as of human existence being viewed as being leisurely and indulgent. The
second painting, could be seen as a departure, just as discussed taking the
dehumanization to a different level. The distortion is far more angular and of course,
as noted above, the background follows this distortion and further emphasizes this

1.At the beginning of the Tertiary, there is a layer of andesite breccia a fast cooling
extrusive rock that has not traveled far from its original deposition. This indicates a
volcanic depositional environment. This formation was then intruded by intrusive
slower cooling rocks that create a noncomformity between it and the Walker
formation. The tuff breccia in the Walker formation is consistent with the same
depositional environment as the andesite breccia formation as they are both extrusive
rocks. It is possible that there was an eruption from a volcano that deposited the
highly viscous andesite rocks followed by slower falling ash, which was then ... Show

The Freeman Jewett shale formation is a strong indicator of a low energy/quiet
depositional environment. It is likely this layer was originally deposited offshore
in a marine environment. This is further supported by the following Bena Gravel
formation, which is emblematic of a transitional beach type environment with
pebble size sand and gravel. This coarser layer of sand and gravel overlying the
silty and sandy shale could be evidence for a regressive cycle and receding sea
levels. The Bena Gravel formation is eroded by Kern River Gravel which creates a
disconformity in the stratigraphy. The Kern River Gravel has stream like deposits
but since it cuts through the Bena Gravel Formation it is suggestive the Kern River
Gravel formation has a delta depositional environment. The Terrace formation
suggests a stream depositional environment. If terracing is present, it indicates a
decrease in discharge over time. The next formation, Alluvium, is evidence of an
alluvial fan deposition, a glacial deposition that has been reworked by meltwater, or
of a dried lake bed. (Levin p.86). Regardless of which, the Alluvium formation gives
away easily to mass wasting to from the landslide formation.
Most alluvial fan deposits occur near the margins of the depositional basin because
they occur in low areas at the base of the Temblor formation or Sierra Nevada s. The

Also, the cost of the death penalty is really high, the cost of keeping someone in jail

The name of the main character, the old Negro woman, is Phoenix. Phoenix, in the
Greek Mythology, associated with the Sun, it obtains new life by arising from the
ashes of its predecessor.пј€
From Wikipediaпј‰ Back to the story, when our main
character Phoenix is on her way to the city, there are so many difficulties that she

The concept path symbolizes a lot in the story. Through the path the negro woman

the equity. As a result, the path means the path of the black liberation.
On the long road to town, Phoenix walks form the morning to the night; it is like
that a human is on his/her way of life. The road has beauty, of course, danger. If

Examples Of Gender Discrimination In The Workplace
GENDER DISCRIMINATION IN THE WORKPLACE In 2013, The Equal
Employment Opportunity Commission reported that over 27,000 claims were
alleged sex based discrimination. Most of these gender related accusations are gender
discrimination. Stephanie Sipe and Donna K. Fisher, two professors at Georgia
Southern University, and C. Douglas Jonson, a professor at Georgia Gwinnett
University, state Genderdiscriminationoccurs when employers make decisions such
as selection, evaluation, promotion, or reward allocation on the basis of an
individual s gender (Sipe, Johnson, and Fisher 342).Since the beginning of time,
Women have experienced inequality in the social as well as professional endeavors.
Women s inequality in the workplace has always been a controversial topic; yet,
gender is a factor that affects men and women.
Reverse Gender Discrimination
Following the Civil Rights Act of 1964 (Title VII) hundreds of cases were heard
and judged in favor of oppressed minority groups. However, in recent years an
increasing number of discrimination cases are being filed by members of majority
groups, claiming discrimination on the basis that minorities now had unfair
advantages. These cases are now commonly referred to as reverse discrimination.
According to Findlaw.com, reverse gender discrimination typically refers to
situations where a member or members of a majority are discriminated against on
the basis of a protected factor, such as race or gender. While the number of reverse
discrimination suits is still quite small when compared to regular discrimination suits,
the gap is closing.
The notion of reverse gender discrimination specifically has also gained popularity as
many majority groups feel as though affirmative action and other anti discrimination
policies negatively affect them because of their gender. Less is known about the
dynamics of reverse gender discrimination in industries and jobs predominantly
dominated by women such as nursing, teaching, etc. It is this small number of reverse
discrimination cases based on gender, where the victims are female that capture our
interest, as there is a distinct possibility that this group will continue to grow in
numbers.

Badger Descriptive
Standing outside of 610 Main St, I was reluctant to head inside. The tannish brown
brick building stood four stories. Its rectangular frame was plain in design; riddled
with standard rectangular windows, you would expect to see in a building from
the early nineteen hundreds. Street side there was a set of standard aluminum
framed glass doors with a brown plaque above them. The brown rectangular plaque
was pressed, allowing for its brass material to protrude out, giving it a three inch
border. Mimicking the border in design, the name Badger was centered on the
plaque. If I hadn t seen the twelve by twelve sign that had Image Management s
logo on the side of the building, I wouldn t have had a clue this was a design studio.

Implication of Oil and Gas Investment in Ghana
1. O INTRODUCTION The purpose of this chapter is to give an introduction to the
motive for selecting the implications and importance of oil and gas investment as
the main subject of this project work. The background and history of this project are
followed by the subject, providing an introduction to the main theme of this work.
The problems for discussion are further presented in order to illustrate the main
problems of this study. This chapter was completed by illustrating the structure of
this study by presenting a model giving the reader an introduction to the main stages
of this project. 1.1BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY It is undeniable that oil,

implications of oil and gas investment The study seeks to find out how investors in

recommendations. 1.3 RESEARCH OBJECTIVES Broad Aim: The broad aim of
the study is to: To assess the implications and importance of oil and gas investment
in Ghana. The specific objectives to be achieved are to: Undertake a
comprehensive review and analysis of the oil and gas situation in Ghana. Analyze
Ghana s most recent oil and gas performance and highlight the specific challenges
and constraints. To ensure transparency in oil and gas exploitation and resource
wealth management in Ghana. 1.4 SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY Since
independence it has been part of every government s policy to explore Ghana s
hydrocarbon deposits. Historically, exploration for oil and gas reserves in Ghana
had been very limited due to the high risk nature of its terrain and low oil price
environment in 2004 when the Kosmos /E.O group made initial contact with
GNPC. Between 1898 to the late nineties an estimated hundred exploration wells
had been drilled in Ghana with no significant discovery except for the Saltpond oil
find in 1970. Our expert opinion on the recent oil discovery in Ghana is that it

Analysis Of Sarah Novak s Hello.
Hello. Today I am going to tell you about my character. It is actually 3 characters
that are the same person. However, the main one is Sarah Novak. Sarah is
currently a creative writer for WWE. However, she is also a villain that breaks into
WWE Headquarters late at night to find Vince McMahon s secret formula to run
WWE into the ground. Sarah goes by The Styler when she is a villain. Sarah also
happens to be a WWE Diva in training. She goes by the ring name Rosalina Bell .
Here is an in depth look into her life.
Sarah Novak grew up in Orlando Florida. She lived with her parents, Jean and Scott
Novak, and her brother, Luke Master. They always watched WWE. Sarah was
friends with a lot of people that also loved WWE. She was friends with Aeria
Stuart, April Brooks, Nicole Garcia Colace, Brianna Danielson, Colby Lopez, and
Jonathan Good. Sometimes, all of them would get together and ride their bikes to
school. The WWE Performance Center was on their way to school. Sarah always
dreamed that she would get to go there someday.
Sarah was not only a gifted athlete, but she was extremely smart as a child. She
always got As and Bs in all of her classes. On top of that, she went to a highly
prestigious high school known as Vincent K. McMahon high school. Only students
chosen by Vince McMahon could go there. Sarah was so happy. All of her friends
got to go there too. The school had it s normal classes, but there were also some
other classes too. Business and Creative Writing
The Last Night Of The World By Ray Bradbury
The Last Night of the World by Ray Bradbury tells an interesting story about a
couple spending what they believe to be the last night that they will spend with
each other. The setting of the story takes place in the their house in the evening. It
starts with the husband asking about what the wife would do if this was the last
night of the world. He knows it is the last night of the world because of a suspicious
dream he had the night before. He did not think much of it until the next day when
he found out one of his friends, Stan Willis, also had the same dream. Turns out,
many others in the office also had the same dream. That evening, the wife admitted
that she had the same dream too, and so did the other women in the
neighborhood. They talked about what they should do for their last night.
Surprisingly, both of them were calm and they decided to continue as if it was any
other night. They put the children to sleep. They did not want to concern the children
by telling them. The couple resumed their routine, they washed the dishes, listened to
the radio, and sit together by the fireplace for a couple of hours. The wife went out

one last day on Earth, what would you spend it on? This is a relatively short story,
but from the start, it has manage to grasp the reader s attention. Surprisingly, the
answer that bradbury gave was unexpected. Most people, including the husband and
wife, expected people to go out of their routine. Do something special or something
different such as screaming in the streets. Instead, the husband and wife spent their
last night in the most ordinary way possible. They way they spend their last night

Adaptive Leadership Essay
Due to its purpose, the military has always been known to produce quality leaders.
From George Washington to John F. Kennedy, the list goes on and on. The
military s rich history has afforded scholars the opportunity to dissect how
leadership is developed in the military. People can look to the military for guidance
on effective leadership because officers ... are trained for high stakes positions at a
young age and are sometimes thrown into those roles with no warming. (The
Different Ways Military Experience Prepares Managers for Leadership, p. 82)

The author should not focus the paper from a military stand point but rather build
his point from a boots on the ground approach. What is meant by this is the Navy
and Air Force were both left out of the article. It is known facts that the Army and
Marine Corps are the United States muscle while the Air Force and Navy and the
brains of the operations. By excluding two of the four military branches the author
does not have the proof that an adaptive leadership style is the military s leadership
style. Mr. Useem begins arguing his four points on the military s preference on
leadership by stating leaders must be ready and willing to meet the troops.
Although this point makes logical sense, more is required in order to be adaptive.
An employee will continue to do their work or meet a deadline regardless of a
leader stopping by to shake hands. If a leader wants to be adaptive they must be
willing to roll their sleeves up and get involved in projects. This projects a leader
who realizes that walking the walk is more important than talking the talk. Although
stopping by to get personal with employees might love seem individuals with a
warm and fuzzy feeling seeing a leader do the work that normal employees do
portrays that the leader is there because not only are they
Color Morphism Lab Report
Sexual selection and genetic color polymorphisms in animals Introduction: Genetic
color polymorphism is an ideal model system, which can be used to study
evolutionary stages for numerous reasons. First, high heritability can be shown from
genetic basis that color morphs provide. Second, separate color morphs can provide
visual markers and can be seen in isolated individuals when observing selection in the
wild. With use of morph frequencies, genotype frequencies can be detected easily and
derive allelic frequency modifications over space and time. There have been
numerous Drosophila studies that have used visual eye marker phenotypes to study
evolutionary changes, which have been shown that color morphs can be correlated to
strong natural and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Such effect will enhance the heterozygote disadvantage and promote stable
polymorphism emergence as recessive alleles being masked in the process. Genomic
architectures tend to favor speciation by either eliminating or reducing recombination
between traits that are correlated with reproductive isolation. Such changes in
recombination rate can occur via synergistic pleiotropy, which result in magic traits.
Magic trait models suggest there is a link between reproductive isolation and
ecological trait. As a result, the ecological trait will produce reproductive isolation as
a by product and as correlated response. When fitness advantage passes across
multiple consecutive generations, it will affect several phenotypic traits in a certain
population, such as: physiology and behaviors, in addition to the alteration of the
population s morph sequences by fitness consistency. Natural and sexual selection can
work together as they do in different color morphs. In general, this study shows the
tremendous effect of natural and sexual selection on the evolutionary process
especially when they act concordantly on a certain trait. As a result, the target
population will experience a stronger evolutionary pressure when the two selections
(natural and sexual) work in one

A lot of people get nervous once you start talking about options. After all, they re not
your standard investment. You really have to read between the lines and have a keen
eye for short term trends... Sometimes, those trends only last for a few hours.
But, with all that said, with keen investing sense and the right preparation you could
make some very nice gains on the open options market.Through my own experience,
both as a trader and from learning from my father, I ve discovered some powerful
secrets that could help you in becoming the best options investor you can be...
Maximize Your Options Gains with These Six Trading Secrets
At first glance, it may seem like speculating with options is a risky business. After
all, price swings of 30% in an hour are far from comfortable for most investors. But
with risk comes reward and when you can manage that risk successfully, the rewards
far outweigh the risks over time. That s where these six trading secrets come in...
They re the tools I ve turned to for decades to maximize my gains as an options
investor while keeping my risks tolerable. My Options Hotline readers have used
these rules to maximize their options gains over the years too, and now, I m passing
them on to you...
Speculators get a bad rap. The very word conjures up pictures of some carefree

Band Session At The Baked Potato
This concert report will go into great detail regarding the performance that I
witnessed, as well as the genre of Jazz that was played, the artist, and the techniques
that were used. I will start with my personal experience of the concert that I
attended. This will focus on the details of the performance, as well as my mindset
before and after the show. Next, this paper will research the origins of the genre of
Jazzthat was played, which is Funk and has been supported by several scholarly
sources. Then I will look at the origin of the Jam Session. Finally I will then end with
information regarding the performers themselves as well as the history of the venue.
For my concert report I went with the members of my group presentation to the
weekly jam session at The Baked Potato, located in studio city. We just got done
with a long night of studying, it was late, a Monday, and I was tired. This was the
first Jazz show that I have ever been to and I didn t know what to expect. I had zero
expectations going into this and in the end I m glad I didn t. When we arrived I
was immediately surprised at how small the venue was. There was maybe a little
more than thirty people in totally and it was a packed house. We took our seats right
next to the stage, sitting directly in front of the bassist and lead guitar player. As we
ordered our two drink minimum and a couple of baked potatoes to share, I watched
as the rest of the band started to step on stage. Some seemed to know each other
John Stuart Mill s Version Of Utilitarianism
In the Utilitarian doctrine the consideration of pleasure and pain is constrained to
ends. By this doctrine pleasure is the only thing desirable as an end and pain is the
only thing undesirable as an end. Everything else is good or evil as it tends to
promote pleasure or pain*. I will argue that pain should be considered as a means as
well as an end and show that this is consistent with John Stuart Mill s version of
Utilitarianism. Conjoining the consideration of pain as a means and the notion of
association of ideas, I will give what I hope is a unique explanation as to why higher
pleasures are so often considered superior to lower pleasures. Finally I will end with a
short exposition that may help to explain Mill s mental crisis of 1826 by using the
ideas advanced in this paper.
Pain and pleasure are experienced partially relative to each other. A given
experience will be inherently pleasurable or painful, but previous experiences
influence the experience of pleasure or pain. Relevant for this essay, painful
experiences tend to increase the pleasure of subsequent experiences. I will
illustrate this with an example. Relative to getting a finger jabbed in your eye, not
getting a finger jabbed in your eye is pleasurable. Relative to a state of ecstasy, a
normal state in which you are not getting your eye jabbed is painful. In both
examples, the normal state of not getting a finger jabbed in your eye is the same,
except for what came prior. In the first case the prior
Research Paper On Coral Reefs
The Rainforests of the Sea Coral reefs are one of the most diverse habitats in the
world today and it this diversity that makes them so important to the overall health
of the oceans and thus the overall health of the oceans as a whole. Coral reefs take
up only a very small percentage of the entire surface of the ocean s surface.
However, despite this, they provide a home to about one quarter of all of the
species that live in the oceans. (Mulhall, 2007, p. 321). Among the other life forms
that live in the world s coral reefs are fish, worms, echinoderms (such as sea
urchins), sponges, and the evolutionary ancient classes of tunicates and cnidarians.
One of the most striking aspects of the diversity of coral reefs is that they can exist
(and support this florescence of life) in places where few other animals can
flourish: Cold and deep waters (Smithers Woodroffe, 2000, p. 4). However, most
corals live in tropical waters; it is on these types of corals that this paper focuses,
looking in particular at the reef fishes that make their homes in the world s coral
reefs. A very wide range of fish lives in coral reefs. These fish include both those
who live entirely within the reefs and those that move in and out of the reef s
periphery. Both types of fish eat smaller animals that also live in the reef or small
plants that habitat the reef including seaweed and algae. The fish that live in coral
reefs are often very brightly colored, a fact that allows that allows them to blend

College Degree In College
Did you know, high school graduates with no college degree make nearly $530 a
week less than those with a Bachelor s degree? (BLS, 2016). Continuing your
education not only means making more money, but it provides you with better
opportunities in your general life. Although college can be expensive and stressful, it
is rewarding. Spending an additional 2 4 years in collegewill make the rest of your life
much better than without it. Nelson Mandela once said Educationis the most powerful

With knowledge, anything is possible for you to achieve. The more education you

time and went to college fulltime to become a Registered Nurse. It wasn t always

Smithville School Board Situation Analysis
Recently, some disheartening Facebook posts were discovered on the page of
Michael L. Till II who is a candidate for the Smithville School Board. These posts
ranged from racists to derogatory to just plain inappropriate and showed us the lack
of moral integrity by a candidate running for an office that represents the Smithville
SchoolDistrict. As a student in the district and a community voice, I wanted to bring
this to the attention of the voters of Smithville.
As the Smithville community works to advance the School District, Till does not
have the moral compass needed to hold a school board position and represent the
students, faculty and administration. Electing someone like Till would be a
degression and misrepresentation to the goal of the Smithville School District which

Analyzing the Fiscal Budget of the City of Ukiah and...
Introduction
This paper will analyse the 2013/14 Fiscal budgets the City of Ukiah and California
City. I will attempt to examine the similarities and differences of both these cites
revenue and expenditure line items in their budgets. The cities are similar in that they
generate revenue from many of the same resources and they have similar
expenditures in their annual fiscal budget. However, the cities budgets strategies are
different because both these cities demographics, social, economic, political platform,
and historical characteristics guide both cities elected official s decisions during the
budget process.
History
California City was incorporated on December 8, 1965 (City of California, 2013).
Before the City was incorporated, it was transformed from a vast area of natural
desert and farmland open space, into a new kind of living environment. In 1776, the
first explorers in the City of California were Paiute Indians under leadership of Father
Francisco Grarces. During this time, the Conquistadores are believed to have hired
Paiute Indians to help conduct mining operations in the territory.
At the end of the century, sheep farming began at the Conklin Ranch, and today, this
ranch is located in the central portion of the City. Later, in the 1900s, the city was
ineffective in its attempt to manufacture cotton and grow alfalfa. In 1958, private
land development activities begun when a group of developers started purchasing
land in the eastern portion of the city. By the

It proves to be quite difficult to detect and diagnose due to the patient s compulsive
lying as an inherent part of the disorder (Valentine, 2014). Furthermore, it proves even
more difficult to treat. Most sufferers, with proper psychological therapeutic
treatments, may make improvements, but will never make a full recovery (Turner
Reid, 2002). Most sufferers will relapse and continue feigning illness if continuous
psychotherapy is not maintained (Turner Reid, 2002). In order to provide
Munchausen sufferers with the best possible chance of recovery, it is essential that
hospital personnel recognize and understand the classical hallmarks of Munchausen
syndrome. Pathological lying, falsification of symptoms, extensive knowledge of
disorders, tests and treatments, doctor shopping and frequent hospitalizations are all
classical hallmarks of the disorder. Understanding and identifying these symptoms
allows for medical professionals to intervene at the right time and get the patients
the help they desperately need, thus allowing the patient access to valuable and
possibly lifesaving psychological help, saving the patient from needless surgeries
and invasive treatments, as well as saving time and other valuable resources that
would otherwise be wasted by hospital staff in treating falsified disorders. Successful
diagnosis and psychological treatment are crucial in the patient s overall well being

The Responsibility Of Death In Grimm s Godfather Death
The fable of Godfather Death poses several topics worth discussing. I was particularly
intrigued with how it portrays the human compulsion to tempt fate. In this particular
example, the protagonist of the story is placed under the care of Death, a being
thought to be omnipotent and clearly not someone to mess around with. As a
christening gift, Deathawards the protagonist an herb that will help any patient of
his recover. Death also gave him conditions in which he was permitted to use the
herb s power. If I stand next to the sick person s head, you may speak boldly that
you will make him healthy again. But if you see me standing by the sick person s
feet then he is mine (Grimm 13). He continued to warn the protagonist of what would
happen if he abused the herb s... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
But beware of using the herb against my will, or it will turn out badly for you
(Grimm 13). With this warning in mind, the doctor proceeds to act against Death s
wishes and give the herb to the sick king, even though Death had stood by the king
s feet. The protagonist assumed that he would be forgiven due to the fact that he
was Death s godson. The protagonist got lucky, Death spared his life, but also
warned him never to deceive him again. I would like to think that the doctor took
this warning to heart, but alas, as soon as a beautiful girl came into the picture,
Death s warning was the farthest thing from his mind. Once again the doctor
cheated Death and chose to save the girl s life in the hope that they would get
married and he would inherit the crown. Death was not so forgiving this time. Death
made a mockery of the man s life in the way that he ended it. A story like this makes
you wonder, why would anyone choose to try their own life like this? To the
protagonist, greed must have seemed an even bigger motivation than the
Effects Of Physical Abuse On Elderly
The Effects of Physical Abuse on Married Couples, Children, and the Elderly
Physical abuse is a kind of domestic abuse that deals with children, elderly people,
and even married couples. About 4,000 women each year die due to physical
abuse and approximately 75 percent of women who are killed by their spouse are
murdered when they attempt to leave or after they have left their abusive
relationship. Abuse is a pattern of behaviors; some are physical, mental, emotional
and they are even sometimes like episodes people go through every day. Around 1

One way is to learn what the situation is and how dangerous it can get trying to
prevent it. It is important to also know who the abuser is, because whoever keeps

child is being abused, try talking about it with them. Try to get the child to tell you
what happened and who did it to them. Stay alert is also important, because not only
your babysitter can do the abusing;it could also be a close relative or a friend. Most
importantly you need to get involved and give the children who did not have the

In Colonial times, women worked around the house, didn t have legals rights, some were wealthy and others were slaves and others lived in the city. As young girls, most women learned how to work around the house, which they most likely learned from their mother. Few women throughout the colonies had a proper education, as some couldn t even read or write. But, because women worked in their household, these skills were not necessary. Due to the amount of tasks that needed to be accomplished, women worked very hard. Some of their chores included sewing clothes, cooking, baking, making sure the house is kept clean and the list goes on. A lot of players are facing suspensions and other penalties for using them. The sport that gets scrutinized the most for this is Baseball. Many former users in the MLB (or formally the NABBP) have come out saying that they were using these drugs while playing. Some of these players are Jorge Sosa, Antonio Bastardo, and the famous Alex Rodriguez. Although these drugs have been prohibited, players are still finding ways around the tests which is why in some other countries they are legal so that no one player can have an unfair advantage. ADHD stands for Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder and it is a neurobehavioral disorder that causes overactivity, behavioral disinhibition, and poor attention span (Lassen, 2016). ADHD was originally identified in 1902 by Sir George Still, a British pediatrician. Still described it as an abnormal defect of moral control in children. It wasn t recognized as a disorder until 1968 when they added it to the 2nd edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, also known as the DSM II. Boiral, Talbot, PaillГ© (2013) argue, Leading by example is critical, as studies have consistently shown that managers commitment to the environment is too often superficial, ceremonial and more focused on appearances than substance. Empowering Others After leading by example, it is easy to transition to empowering others. When a manager does not feel the need to exert the power of his/her employees, they are able to view the group as a team with a common goal. When followers know that an organization truly needs them, they are empowered to go beyond the normal practices. Spiritual Integration The Bible speaks of vision in relaying, where there is no vision, the people perish (Proverbs 29:18 KJV) also noting the importance of keeping to the truth provided by God. My interpretation is of this painting is that it is certainly a contrast with the bright colors while at the same time also having a somewhat distorted view of reality and of the human form. This painting was certainly significant in making a bold statement of the human form as well as of human existence being viewed as being leisurely and indulgent. The second painting, could be seen as a departure, just as discussed taking the dehumanization to a different level. The distortion is far more angular and of course, as noted above, the background follows this distortion and further emphasizes this style of

This indicates a volcanic depositional environment. This formation was then intruded by intrusive slower cooling rocks that create a noncomformity between it and the Walker formation. The tuff breccia in the Walker formation is consistent with the same depositional environment as the andesite breccia formation as they are both extrusive rocks. The Freeman Jewett shale formation is a strong indicator of a low energy/quiet depositional environment. It is likely this layer was originally deposited offshore in a marine environment. This is further supported by the following Bena Gravel formation, which is emblematic of a transitional beach type environment with pebble size sand and gravel. This coarser layer of sand and gravel overlying the silty and sandy shale could be evidence for a regressive cycle and receding sea levels. The Bena Gravel formation is eroded by Kern River Gravel which creates a disconformity in the stratigraphy. The Kern River Gravel has stream like deposits but since it cuts through the Bena Gravel Formation it is suggestive the Kern River Gravel formation has a delta depositional environment. The Terrace formation suggests a stream depositional environment. If terracing is present, it indicates a decrease in discharge over time. The next formation, Alluvium, is evidence of an alluvial fan deposition, a glacial deposition that has been reworked by meltwater, or of a dried lake bed. (Levin p.86). Women s inequality in the workplace has always been a controversial topic; yet, gender is a factor that affects men and women. Reverse Gender Discrimination Following the Civil Rights Act of 1964 (Title VII) hundreds of cases were heard and judged in favor of oppressed minority groups. However, in recent years an increasing number of discrimination cases are being filed by members of majority groups, claiming discrimination on the basis that minorities now had unfair advantages. These cases are now commonly referred to as reverse discrimination. According to Findlaw.com, reverse gender discrimination typically refers to situations where a member or members of a majority are discriminated against on the basis of a protected factor, such as race or gender. While the number of reverse discrimination suits is still quite small when compared to regular discrimination suits, the gap is closing. The notion of reverse gender discrimination specifically has also gained popularity as many majority groups feel as though affirmative action and other anti discrimination policies negatively affect them because of their gender. Less is known about the dynamics of reverse gender discrimination in industries and jobs predominantly dominated by women such as nursing, teaching, etc. It is this small number of reverse discrimination cases based on gender, where the victims are female that capture our interest, as there is a distinct possibility that this group will continue to grow in numbers. As the social and political climate has

The setting of the story takes place in the their house in the evening. It starts with the husband asking about what the wife would do if this was the last night of the world. He knows it is the last night of the world because of a suspicious dream he had the night before. He did not think much of it until the next day when he found out one of his friends, Stan Willis, also had the same dream. Turns out, many others in the office also had the same dream. That evening, the wife admitted that she had the same dream too, and so did the other women in the neighborhood. They talked about what they should do for their last night. Surprisingly, both of them were calm and they decided to continue as if it was any other night. They put the children to sleep. They did not want to concern the children by telling them. By excluding two of the four military branches the author does not have the proof that an adaptive leadership style is the military s leadership style. Mr. Useem begins arguing his four points on the military s preference on leadership by stating leaders must be ready and willing to meet the troops. Although this point makes logical sense, more is required in order to be adaptive. An employee will continue to do their work or meet a deadline regardless of a leader stopping by to shake hands. If a leader wants to be adaptive they must be willing to roll their sleeves up and get involved in projects. Color Morphism Lab Report Sexual selection and genetic color polymorphisms in animals Introduction: Genetic color polymorphism is an ideal model system, which can be used to study evolutionary stages for numerous reasons. First, high heritability can be shown from genetic basis that color morphs provide. Second, separate color morphs can provide visual markers and can be seen in isolated individuals when observing selection in the wild. With use of morph frequencies, genotype frequencies can be detected easily and derive allelic frequency modifications over space and time. There have been numerous Drosophila studies that have used visual eye marker phenotypes to study evolutionary changes, which have been shown that color morphs can be correlated to strong natural and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Such effect will enhance the heterozygote disadvantage and promote stable polymorphism emergence as recessive alleles being masked in the process. Genomic architectures tend to favor speciation by either eliminating or reducing recombination between traits that are correlated with reproductive isolation. Such changes in recombination rate can occur via synergistic pleiotropy, which result in magic traits. Magic trait models suggest there is a link between reproductive isolation and ecological trait. As a result, the ecological trait will produce reproductive isolation as a by product and as correlated response. When fitness advantage passes across multiple consecutive generations, it will affect several phenotypic traits in a certain population, such as: physiology and behaviors, in addition to the alteration of the population s morph sequences by fitness consistency. Natural and sexual selection can work together as they do in different color morphs. In general, this study shows the tremendous effect of natural and sexual selection on the evolutionary process especially when they act concordantly on a certain trait. As a result, the target population will experience a stronger evolutionary pressure when the two selections (natural and sexual) work in one

By this doctrine pleasure is the only thing desirable as an end and pain is the only thing undesirable as an end. Everything else is good or evil as it tends to promote pleasure or pain*. I will argue that pain should be considered as a means as well as an end and show that this is consistent with John Stuart Mill s version of Utilitarianism. Conjoining the consideration of pain as a means and the notion of association of ideas, I will give what I hope is a unique explanation as to why higher pleasures are so often considered superior to lower pleasures. Finally I will end with a short exposition that may help to explain Mill s mental crisis of 1826 by using the ideas advanced in this paper. Pain and pleasure are experienced partially relative to each other. A given experience will be inherently pleasurable or painful, but previous experiences influence the experience of pleasure or pain. Relevant for this essay, painful experiences tend to increase the pleasure of subsequent experiences. I will illustrate this with an example. Relative to getting a finger jabbed in your eye, not getting a finger jabbed in your eye is pleasurable. Relative to a state of ecstasy, a normal state in which you are not getting your eye jabbed is painful. In both examples, the normal state of not getting a finger jabbed in your eye is the same, except for what came prior. In the first case the prior

Research Paper On Coral Reefs The Rainforests of the Sea Coral reefs are one of the most diverse habitats in the world today and it this diversity that makes them so important to the overall health of the oceans and thus the overall health of the oceans as a whole. Coral reefs take up only a very small percentage of the entire surface of the ocean s surface. However, despite this, they provide a home to about one quarter of all of the species that live in the oceans. (Mulhall, 2007, p. 321). Among the other life forms that live in the world s coral reefs are fish, worms, echinoderms (such as sea urchins), sponges, and the evolutionary ancient classes of tunicates and cnidarians. One of the most striking aspects of the diversity of coral reefs is that they can exist (and support this florescence of life) in places where few other animals can flourish: Cold and deep waters (Smithers Woodroffe, 2000, p. 4). However, most corals live in tropical waters; it is on these types of corals that this paper focuses, looking in particular at the reef fishes that make their homes in the world s coral reefs. A very wide range of fish lives in coral reefs. These fish include both those who live entirely within the reefs and those that move in and out of the reef s periphery. Both types of fish eat smaller animals that also live in the reef or small plants that habitat the reef including seaweed and algae. The fish that live in coral reefs are often very brightly colored, a fact that allows that allows them to blend

It wasn t always easy while she was in school, money was even tighter than before, but once she graduated, things changed. We finally had financial stability and structure we always wanted. Seeing my mother set a goal and work hard until she achieved it, inspired me even at a young age. I knew I wanted to go to college so I could provide for my family like she had for me. So I set my goal and I have almost achieve it. I will be getting a
  • 36. Smithville School Board Situation Analysis Recently, some disheartening Facebook posts were discovered on the page of Michael L. Till II who is a candidate for the Smithville School Board. These posts ranged from racists to derogatory to just plain inappropriate and showed us the lack of moral integrity by a candidate running for an office that represents the Smithville SchoolDistrict. As a student in the district and a community voice, I wanted to bring this to the attention of the voters of Smithville. As the Smithville community works to advance the School District, Till does not have the moral compass needed to hold a school board position and represent the students, faculty and administration. Electing someone like Till would be a degression and misrepresentation to the goal of the Smithville School District which is to build a tradition of excellence and help students become proactive, compassionate leaders . For 13 years of our lives, we look up to adults and seek out mentors in all aspects of the District, whether it be faculty, administration or school board members. We should expect the utmost integrity, respect and commitment out of our community leaders as they try to instill in us, the students. Electing Till would put a person on the board who lacks this integrity and respect for all and would show our students that it is okay to disrespect ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I will attempt to examine the similarities and differences of both these cites revenue and expenditure line items in their budgets. The cities are similar in that they generate revenue from many of the same resources and they have similar expenditures in their annual fiscal budget. However, the cities budgets strategies are different because both these cities demographics, social, economic, political platform, and historical characteristics guide both cities elected official s decisions during the budget process. History California City was incorporated on December 8, 1965 (City of California, 2013). Before the City was incorporated, it was transformed from a vast area of natural desert and farmland open space, into a new kind of living environment. In 1776, the first explorers in the City of California were Paiute Indians under leadership of Father Francisco Grarces. During this time, the Conquistadores are believed to have hired Paiute Indians to help conduct mining operations in the territory. At the end of the century, sheep farming began at the Conklin Ranch, and today, this ranch is located in the central portion of the City. Later, in the 1900s, the city was ineffective in its attempt to manufacture cotton and grow alfalfa. In 1958, private land development activities begun when a group of developers started purchasing land in the eastern portion of the city. By the

Munchausen Syndrome Research Paper Factitious Disorder: A Study on Munchausen Syndrome Emily Meyer Rasmussen College Author note This paper is being submitted on September 9, 2015 for Professor McKinley s G148 General Psychology course. Factitious Disorder: A Study on Munchausen Syndrome Imagine a patient walking into the emergency room complaining of severe pain and requesting a number of tests be run. The patient has what seems to be an extensive knowledge of his condition so much so, that it even seems a bit suspicious. The patient s lab results are back, nothing is irregular, but he still insists that he is in severe pain and that he must be admitted so that something, anything, can be done. Further inspection reveals that the patient has several scars ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It proves to be quite difficult to detect and diagnose due to the patient s compulsive lying as an inherent part of the disorder (Valentine, 2014). Furthermore, it proves even more difficult to treat. Most sufferers, with proper psychological therapeutic treatments, may make improvements, but will never make a full recovery (Turner Reid, 2002). Most sufferers will relapse and continue feigning illness if continuous psychotherapy is not maintained (Turner Reid, 2002). In order to provide Munchausen sufferers with the best possible chance of recovery, it is essential that hospital personnel recognize and understand the classical hallmarks of Munchausen syndrome. Pathological lying, falsification of symptoms, extensive knowledge of disorders, tests and treatments, doctor shopping and frequent hospitalizations are all classical hallmarks of the disorder. Understanding and identifying these symptoms allows for medical professionals to intervene at the right time and get the patients the help they desperately need, thus allowing the patient access to valuable and possibly lifesaving psychological help, saving the patient from needless surgeries and invasive treatments, as well as saving time and other valuable resources that would otherwise be wasted by hospital staff in treating falsified disorders. Successful diagnosis and psychological treatment are crucial in the patient s overall well being and
  • 39. The Responsibility Of Death In Grimm s Godfather Death The fable of Godfather Death poses several topics worth discussing. I was particularly intrigued with how it portrays the human compulsion to tempt fate. In this particular example, the protagonist of the story is placed under the care of Death, a being thought to be omnipotent and clearly not someone to mess around with. As a christening gift, Deathawards the protagonist an herb that will help any patient of his recover. Death also gave him conditions in which he was permitted to use the herb s power. If I stand next to the sick person s head, you may speak boldly that you will make him healthy again. But if you see me standing by the sick person s feet then he is mine (Grimm 13). He continued to warn the protagonist of what would happen if he abused the herb s... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... But beware of using the herb against my will, or it will turn out badly for you (Grimm 13). With this warning in mind, the doctor proceeds to act against Death s wishes and give the herb to the sick king, even though Death had stood by the king s feet. The protagonist assumed that he would be forgiven due to the fact that he was Death s godson. The protagonist got lucky, Death spared his life, but also warned him never to deceive him again. I would like to think that the doctor took this warning to heart, but alas, as soon as a beautiful girl came into the picture, Death s warning was the farthest thing from his mind. Once again the doctor cheated Death and chose to save the girl s life in the hope that they would get married and he would inherit the crown. Death was not so forgiving this time. Death made a mockery of the man s life in the way that he ended it. A story like this makes you wonder, why would anyone choose to try their own life like this? To the protagonist, greed must have seemed an even bigger motivation than the

Effects Of Physical Abuse On Elderly The Effects of Physical Abuse on Married Couples, Children, and the Elderly Physical abuse is a kind of domestic abuse that deals with children, elderly people, and even married couples. About 4,000 women each year die due to physical abuse and approximately 75 percent of women who are killed by their spouse are murdered when they attempt to leave or after they have left their abusive relationship. Abuse is a pattern of behaviors; some are physical, mental, emotional and they are even sometimes like episodes people go through every day. It is important to also know who the abuser is, because whoever keeps the is the one who most likely is abusing the child. You should only have on stable babysitter, because you do not want anyone watching your child. If you think your child is being abused, try talking about it with them. Try to get the child to tell you what happened and who did it to them. Stay alert is also important, because not only your babysitter can do the abusing;it could also be a close relative or a friend. Most importantly you need to get involved and give the children who did not have the chance to tell their parents, get that chance, because you never know when it is too
  • 41. American Beauty by Sam Mendes Essay American Beauty by Sam Mendes This essay has problems with formating #65279; In American Beauty, 1999, directed by Sam Mendes, we are confronted with the permeating images that have consumed mainstream American life. Mendes exploits these images as constructions that we created around ourselves as a means of hiding our true selves. Mendes is able to implicate us in the construction and make us active viewers by exploiting our voyeuristic nature. In American Beauty Mendes uses the voyeuristic tendencies of the spectator to acknowledge the permeating constructed images. Mendes, through the use of narration, the mise en scene and cinematic techniques implicates the spectator in to using their voyeuristic tendencies to deconstruct ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The construction of images within the narrative is important to how Mendes constructs them through cinematic techniques. Carolyn Burnham, real estate agent, mother and wife have been, from the very beginning is constructed through the narrative in such a way that the spectator defines her as someone who is consumed by the importance of projecting and maintaining the perfect image. She is often caught, consciously making references concerning images. Referring to Jane Burnham, are you trying to look unattractive or to her husband at a real estate gala there s a certain image . . . and to herself, to be successful one must always put forward an image of success. These comments are additions to what the spectator has already been subjected to when Lester points out that it is not an accident the handles on her pruning sheer s match her gardening clogs. Mendes through his depiction of Carolyn in earlier scenes is directing the spectator to be appalled by Carolyn s obvious shallow and selfish ( could you make me any later? ) personality. Yet at the same time Mendes gives the spectator reasons to appreciate Carolyn s obsessive qualities about the projected images. Carolyn respects the dominant ideologies about images, and is consciously aware that she is an object of the gaze. As women are
