Against Torture Essay
1. Against Torture Essay
Writing an essay on the topic "Against Torture" can be a challenging task, requiring a delicate
balance between presenting a compelling argument and addressing the ethical and moral
dimensions of the subject matter. The difficulty lies not only in conducting thorough research to
gather relevant information but also in navigating the complex emotions and sensitivities
associated with the topic.
To effectively argue against torture, one must delve into the legal, ethical, and human rights
aspects, considering both historical and contemporary perspectives. The writer must analyze the
justifications put forth by proponents of torture and systematically counter them with well-
reasoned arguments. This involves presenting empirical evidence, scholarly opinions, and real-life
examples that highlight the detrimental effects of torture on individuals and society as a whole.
Moreover, the essay should not only condemn torture but also propose alternative methods for
addressing security concerns or obtaining information. This requires a comprehensive
understanding of international laws, conventions, and ethical standards related to human rights,
as well as an ability to articulate a principled stance against torture.
Addressing the emotional aspect of the topic is another challenge. Torture is a deeply distressing
subject, and the writer must approach it with sensitivity while maintaining a clear and persuasive
tone. Striking the right balance between passion and objectivity is crucial to engage the reader
without overwhelming them with graphic details or emotionally charged language.
In conclusion, crafting an essay against torture demands thorough research, a nuanced
understanding of the subject matter, and the ability to present a compelling argument while
acknowledging the emotional weight of the topic. It is a challenging endeavor that requires
careful consideration of various perspectives and a commitment to upholding human dignity and
rights.

2. Review Of The Jati

The Jati
Thousands of years ago in Asia, a book was written that gave social structure that
would go on through the ages in India. Today that social structure is called the Jati or
in English words, the Caste system. While it has undergone a few changes here and
there, the system has relatively been unchanged and just like thousands of years ago
when it was first introduced in the Vedas, it exists in modern day India as a part of
society in it. This paper will go over a more detailed explanation of the Jati as well
as the classes and books that defined the Jati system, most notably the Laws of
Mandu . Jati translates to caste so in English it is called the Caste system. In the
Jati system there are four main castes one falls under: Shudra, Viasya, Kshatryia
and Bhramin. Outside of the caste system are the outcasts or also called
untouchables. Within these main four castes there are thousands of subcastes a
group of people will fall under. One important thing to note where unlike most
social classes of ancient time, in the Jati system, it is possible to move up in the
caste. While a subcaste may not move up as an individually, the entire group can
move up. So while there is subcaste A and subcaste B. While Subcaste B is
currently higher up on the caste it is possibly for subcaste A as a whole to move up
above subcaste B. This is the beauty of the Jati system, groups are not permanently
logged into one place
3. The Effect Of Metal Chelation On Latin
Introduction
Chelate means claw in Latin. Metal Chelation is a process when a polyvalent metal
ion form covalent bonds with a drug and binds tightly to form a 5 or 6 membered
ring. 5 and 6 membered ring structure are very stable because their bond angle has
no ring strain. Thus, when a compound is chelated, it will not be able to pass through
the biological membrane, in another words, it will not be metabolise by the body but
to be pass through the renal without being absorbed and being excreted though urine.
Essential metal such as magnesium, iron, calcium and zinc are easily found in many
food source and is vital to be included as part of our diet as these trace elements are
helping our body enzymes, hormones and cells to work. Insufficient intake of trace
minerals can cause symptoms of nutritional deficiency. (Glusker,1999) At certain
times, these metal are also use as an active ingredient or excipients in pharmaceutical
industry.
Chelation of Alendroic Acid with Calcium
Alendronic acid is a bisphosphonate drug that is used to inhibit osteoclastic bone
resorption .it works by attaching to hydroxyapatite binding sites to impair the ability
of the osteoclasts to produce the protons necessary for continued bone resorption. It
also inhibit osteoclast activity by promoting osteoclast apoptosis. (pubmed ) Patient
group who are mostly taking this medication are postmenopausal women. As women
reaches their menopausal age, oestrogen starts to deplete which causes their bones to
4. A History of Product Placement in Film and Television
A History of Product Placement in Film and Television
Peter Rush Product placement in the marketing world has become more and more
evident in the past few decades. More specifically, product placement in the movie
industry has been one of the most successful ways to advertise products. Oftentimes,
products are associated with a film, or vice versa. Such is the case with Reese s
Pieces candies and Stephen Spielberg s film, E.T . While it is a very expensive
way of companies to advertise their brands, it is one that pays off immensely if
executed properly. Although it seems as if product placement in film and television
is a relatively new way of marketing products to the public, it has been around as
early as the late ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
But although some of the Edison films were obvious offers of products and
services, product placements as subtle efforts to influence audience attitude and
behavior became a specialty of Edison s. His catalog listed hundreds of
travelogues, such as trips to the Far West, Niagara Falls, and Hawaii, along with
dozens of railroad films. The business of product placement had begun. In the
United States, cinematic art and business intertwined in the 1910s and 1920s as
manufacturers and government distributed advertising films that combined drama
and commerce to the small town circuit. Producers of these films included
International Harvester, the U.S. Department of Agriculture, and the YMCA. From
1914 to 1921, Ford Motor Company created a series of newsreels titled Ford
Animated Weekly and Ford Educational Weekly. A typical serial included Model T
races and news footage that sometimes incorporated Henry Ford meeting with
government officials. These advertising films were distributed at low cost to
exhibitors and found an early approval in small towns, with Ford claiming a
viewership of 3 million per week (Journal of Broadcasting and Electronic Media,
2006). Not only did the product placement within the movie help to reimburse both
parties of the agreement, but the American films initiated a worldwide trade in
American products as well.
5. The Spirit Catches You And You Fall Down By Anne
Fadiman
Unfortunately, the world we live is a far cry from perfect. We have all types of
barriers and roadblocks that we must face and attempt to overcome on a daily
basis. When dealing with healthcare, these barriers and roadblocks can be much
scarier and in some cases even deadly. These barriers are not limited to only
language, but also to differences in cultures as well. The book entitled The Spirit
Catches You and You Fall Down by Anne Fadiman highlights the plight of a
particular Hmong family in California. The Lee family faced many hardships when
they came to America. They were normally mountain people who kept to themselves
and did their own thing without any interference or input from the people who lived
near them. Now they were thrust into an American city in California, with no way
to support themselves without government assistance. When Foua went into labor
with her daughter Lia, she had a seemingly positive experience with the delivery.
She did not understand a word that anyone said to her during her entire hospital
stay, but she thought it was nice that so many people wanted to help her with the
birth of her child, because, in her native Chinese culture, a mother usually gave
birth to her children alone (Fadiman 8). She did think that it was strange that they
gave her ice water to drink because many Hmong believe that cold food makes the
blood congeal instead of cleansing the body by flowing freely after birth (9). As Foua
left the hospital she signed the

at Determining Who is to Blame for Lily Moya s Downfall in Not Either an
Experimental Doll The Separate Worlds of Three South African Women In today s
Western culture, it is hard to imagine a world without education. Adults and
children alike view education as a common practice that is essential to everyday
life. For Lily Moya, this is not the case. In Not Either an Experimental Doll, edited
by Shula Marks, letters of correspondence reveal a relationship between Dr. Mabel
Palmer, a well known European supporter of black education, and Lily Moya, a girl
growing up in apartheid South Africa. Lily writes to Palmer requesting acceptance

The first of Lily s individual weaknesses that lead to her demise is stubbornness; it
plays a large role in why Palmer has such a difficult time dealing with Lily. On a
number of occasions through the correspondence, Lily attempts to treat Palmer as
though the two of them are close, intimate friends. Lily even goes as far as saying
to Palmer, I hope you stay for years, with me (Marks 113). If this is not pressure
enough, Lily goes on to guilt Palmer by proclaiming, You cannot leave me alone in
this merciless world (Marks 113). When faced with these remarks, she needed to
address Lily s outlook on their relationship to make sure Lily understood that their
interaction had to remain professional. You say that one of your reasons for
wishing to be in Durban is that you want to see more of me, but have you ever
asked yourself whether I wish do see more of you? As a matter of fact I do not.
Your romantic and self centered imagination has built up for you a picture in
which you are to be my devoted and intimate friend. Now you must forgive me for
saying that this is all nonsense. Even if you were a European girl of your age it
would still be nonsense (Marks 136). Palmer makes it very clear that Lily s
feelings for her are simply not reciprocated. Palmer says she does not wish to see
Lily, and that Lily s perception of their connection is just nonsense . Critics will
argue that Palmer s tone here is too aggressive though. They ll argue that

The North American market is very price sensitive, and some components, like OE
and spares which are in the mature period of their life circle, the traditional cost
system seems to be a method for them in this company. Thus, in the situation that
price is almost the most important order winning criterion. Traditional cost system is
judged in that it is suitable to manufacture the required product at minimum cost and
efficiency.
However, as a new member with a new product, electronic product in North American
market, the reputation is also an important attribute. Especially, quick delivery time is
a key attribute for this company, due to the demand of quick delivery in all markets.
Moreover, the manufacturing process of the new product, electronic product, on
which our company will definitely focus, has a lot demands. Such as, technology,
innovation and quick delivery time even the ability to make the product be the first
one appearing in the market (other company, which is developing the same product,

the most important role in the manufacturing process. On the other hand, the
traditional cost system has a lot of limitations. Traditional costing system focuses on
the cost reduction and the efficiency, particular the products with relatively few
standardized components; Clifton, however, produces a wide range of airplane

Lavioe (2008) states successful, responsive and productive schools share one
common trait: They solicit, encourage, facilitate and promote parental
communication. In schools, according to Lavioe (2008), parents are welcomed,
answered and are encouraged to voice their concerns. Families have a primary
decision making role in the care of their own children as well as in the policies and
procedures governing care for all children in their community, state, tribe, territory,
and nation. As educators also have the role to make sure that the needs of the
students are met in and outside of the classroom. When students are not focused for
the day due to needs not being met at home, this can impact the flow of the
classroom. Building positive relationships between the teacher, parent, student and
community, the student feels confident with their teacher by having a close,
positive and supportive relationship they will be more engaged in the classroom
content, perform to a higher academic achievement level and they will display
better classroom behavior. The more support that the child has inside and outside of
school the more likely they are to succeed in school and in life. At one school,
Waugh Chapel Elementary School, they often have assemblies where people from
the community come and tell real life stories about their life and career. This is very
important for children to see because they can better understand that their schoolwork
is important and it does pay off in the long

Mangus, thinking they were through for the day, walked over and reached for the
door knob when Balthazar suddenly asked him to stay because he had something
more to tell him. He began explaining about the two factions that existed within the
Order of Vilgoth and indicated that there was some kind of disagreement on how
they should have him regain his empire. He was the leader of one faction and Sara
the other. He hinted, without really coming out and saying it, that his faction was
the only side to trust with his future. He had no idea why Balthazar would warn
him about Sara s loyalty. After what they had been through getting to Sagera, Sara
seemed more dependable and loyal than anyone else. He felt certain he could trust
her with his life and already had. Puzzled by his malign insinuation, he headed
back to his room deep in thought. He physically bumped into Captain Bishop in the
corridor. He quickly offered his apology. Bishop politely asked him how his
training went and he told him he had successfully knocked Balthazar off his feet. He
thought his first day had went very well. Captain Bishop laughed at the thought of
the o so proper Balthazar on his behind and encouraged him to keep up with his
training. With time and patience, he would eventually master all of his skills.
Unexpectedly, Bishop asked him if he would like to spar with him inside the
barracks, and suddenly forgetting how tired he was, he replied. Why not? Walking

15. Michel de Montaigne Essay
Michel de Montaigne The world is a place of chaos nowadays. At every turn of a
corner, there is desolation triggered from humanity s sidetracked views of what the
world is about. With all this deception and superficiality, pureness in the human soul
seems almost non existent. Michel de Montaigne recognizes the essential need of this
purity for the improvement of society in his Essays. Although the main topics he is
focusing own are his own nature, own habits, and own opinions, he uses these
personal vignettes to illustrate larger truths about man and his behaviors, his
strengths and weaknesses. He subtly forces us to see the materialistic ideals that

Artifice is the unnecessary magnificence which drains away immediately from use
or money (334). In On Coaches , we see Montaigne s frustration with society s
tendency to attempt to gain respect with deeds of the purse string rather than true
deeds of virtue (338). He asserts that this type of generosity doesn t have any real
influence because of the tainted intentions behind it. Montaigne urges us to see
the limits of the mind that is shaped by shallowness and materialistic possessions.
He speaks with a harsh tone, and against the ides of a universe which flows on
while we are in it, how puny and stunted in the knowledge of the most inquisitive
men (341), trying to wake society out of he oblivion of artifice it has settled itself
on to. In To philosophize is to learn how to die he compares the span of human
lives to the span of mountains and rivers, as well as to insects whose lives lasts a
single day. Carnal aspects influence even the general fear of death humans feel. I
truly believe that what frightens us more than death it self are those terrifying
grimaces and preparation with which we surround it (35). At times it seems as if
he was writing in a state of frenzy because of human s ignorance of the
insignificance issues they deem to be significant when compared to the powers of
nature. His frustrations make him scold us in the place of Mother Nature. Why do
you complain of me or of Destiny?? Do we do you wrong? Should you
16. The Importance Of A Student s Education And That May...
A factor that I feel is vital for a student s education and that may benefit a teacher is
the factor of assessments. Assessments is a method in which teachers use to evaluate,
measure, and document the progress students have made. While assessments are
usually equated with traditional testing teachers may also use a diverse array of
assessment methods to measure a students progress in any class. Assessments are
usually created to measure specific elements of learning wither its cognitive,
psychomotor or affective. Assessment may also be used to see the level of
knowledge a student may already have on a concept or a skill that the teacher is
planning on teaching. Assessments are also used to identify individual student
weaknesses and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
You are also able to provide parents with evidence in their child s progress or the lack
of progress the child is making. After assessing students the teacher may modify there
instruction to a students need. It may also encourage teachers to assess there own
teaching and the adjustments they may need to make to enhance there teaching. By
holding teachers responsible for assessing students, teachers understand they need to
provide a higher quality of education. As we see a higher emphasis on assessments and
the accountability on teachers. We are now required to provide evidence of student s
achievements (Rink Williams, 2003). We can provide these achievements with hard
copies of assessments taken by the students. Earlier in the paper I had mentioned the
two assessments commonly used through out schools. Another assessment that is
highly used in physical education is authentic assessment, which was promoted by
Grant Wiggins (1989). This sort of assessment places students in real world problems
which students may use skills and knowledge to solve these issues (Jacalyn Lund,
1997). There are about 15 forms of authentic assessments. These forms are teacher
observation, self observation, checklists, demonstration, peer observation, event task,
group projects, student projects, oral discourse, student log and etc. With Mitah
(2003) statistical findings we can see that 100% of the teachers in every grade level

17. Voter Identification Dbq
Among many political issues in the election seasons of 2012 and 2016, voter
identification has become a prominent talking point among candidates and
subsequently all of America. Voter identification laws require that prospective
voters to show some form of state provided identification in order to be able to cast
a ballot. The ones who create these laws proclaim that they are in order to reduce
voter fraud in elections, but the real purpose is something much more sinister. The
true reason so many people support voter identification laws is because they suppress
minorities from voting, usually helping the Republican party. Minorities have a
harder time acquiring valid identification, and therefore are more negatively impacted
by these laws.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Voter identification laws are made specifically in order to stop certain people from
voting, and hurt the candidates that they would have otherwise voted for. This can
be seen from an analysis of where the voter identification laws have been passed
and how they have affected the winners of elections. Source E cites a Washington
Post article that draws a direct line towards voter identification laws and Republican
legislatures. The article says, Where these laws are enacted, the influence of
Democrats and liberals wanes and the power of Republicans grows... What they are
really saying is that Republicans pass these laws to suppress Democratic voters, so
they can be voted in again in the next election. It is a widely known fact that more
minorities vote Democrat, so these Republican lawmakers try to stop some of the
minorities from voting by passing these identification laws. This perpetuates the
unfair balance of power in our seemingly democratic nation, and makes it so the
white man stays in power while the minorities do not have a voice. This problem is
also addressed in the novel Their Eyes Were Watching God by Zora Neale Hurston,
where the white man s power is unchecked while the minorities have no voice.
Although written in a very different time, it can be argued that many racist views
held long ago are still present in modern America. One such example of this continued
racism is
18. Does Apatow Create Stereotypes In Freaks And Geeks
Adolescents can be awfully cruel to one another. Consequently, many who have
passed through this phase can vividly recall moments of social ostracism, where
one was made fun of for their clothing choice, pushed around by high school seniors
or excluded from friend groups. The filmmaker, Judd Apatow, undoubtedly kept this
in mind while producing the pilot of, Freaks and Geeks, as media techniques such as
camera shots, conflict and editing are expertly employed in order to help the
audience relive these dreadful high schoolexperiences, thus creating pathos as
audience members empathize and become emotionally attached to the outcast

integrates conflict in, Freaks and Geeks, in order to deepen characterization,
therefore creating pathos as the audience sympathizes with the victim. This is
made irrefutable through Lindsay s person vs. self conflict at 34:52 when she
reveals to the audience her final conversation with her dying grandmother, I said,
can you see God or heaven or light or anything? No, there s nothing She was a good
person all her life and that s what she got ( pilot ). This is a notable moment in the
show, because the audience finally discovers that Lindsay is rebelling as a result of
her inability to deal with her emotions after her grandmother s death, thus evoking
sympathy for Lindsay despite all of her poor choices. Additionally, this creation of
pathos encourages the viewers to continue watching the show as they are left curious
as to whether Lindsay will recover from this tragic

Chemical weapons have been used since WW1, but are they still used today? Yes,
despite all the regulations and bans made by The United Nations, chemicals are still
weaponized and used. The definition given to a chemical weapon is, any toxic
chemical or its precursor that can cause death, injury, temporary incapacitation or
sensory irritation through its chemical action. After WW1, in 1925, the UN made the
Geneva Protocol to prohibit the use of chemical weapons against any state which had
signed the agreement. This protocol with its intentions to help the the world with
banning the use of chemical weapons against other states did not ban them against
using them against that state s people. Throughout the years more modifications have
come to try and solve the problem of using chemical weapons, but there hasn t been
enough done. The accessibility to chemicals are easier than ever with tens of
thousands of manufacturing plans in just the United States and Europe alone. From

21. The Four Humors And Their Influence Through Time
The Four Humors and Their Influence Through Time Greek Antiquity was a time of
some of the greatest minds of all time, such as Plato and Aristotle, leading to many
inventions and ideas that are still relevant today, from hydraulics to astronomy. One
of the most influential realizations, however, came from the mind of a man named
Hippocrates, as he began the real start of the practice of medicine. Hippocrates of
Cos, a physician in ancient Greece, is considered to be the father of medicine due to
his many contributions to the field in his life. Through research and different
experiments he was able to conclude many different principles, including on of the
most important: the four humors. By observing reactions to different illnesses,
sometimes leading the patient to die, he was able to develop the theory. His theory
of the four humors was that the human body was filled with four basic substances, or
humors, that when in balance indicate the person is healthy. If there was too little or
too much of one of the four, a disease or disability would result. The four humors of
Hippocratic medicine are black bile, yellow bile, blood, and phlegm. Before the
humors were introduced, many people believed that the source of illness was
punishment from the Gods. It wasn t until after Hippocrates introduction to medicine
that the field stepped away from religion and into science. The introduction of the
four humors led to a continuing line of thought up until the nineteenth century

Introduction Building your vinyl collection is an exciting hobby There is a
plethora of ways to get out there and build your collecting, including your local
record stores, big box retailers who are now selling vinyl, garage sales, online
stores, thrift shops and I can go on forever!! It seems that just about everywhere is
selling vinyl records. Over the last few years millions of brand new vinyl has been
pressed with the numbers continuing to climb upwards. The few big box music
retailers have begun stocking their shelves with vinyl once again, along with
several unexpected retailers adding vinyl to their line of products carried such as
Whole Foods and even Cracker Barrel! The availability of independent retailers are
popping up in city and towns all across North America almost weekly! There are
plenty of places to purchase new vinyl, with a few of them not so obvious. Below is

Used vinyl tends to be less in price and readily available since often vinyl collectors

Commonly, if a stockpile of used vinyl is for sale at a reasonably low rate it is

23. Descriptive Essay About A Tree
Growing up I have tender memories of watching the majestic oak tree go thru
numerous seasons. Each change of time brought on another milestone in my life.
Climbing the branches I learned so much about life and myself. Looking down from
the tree I learned more about others then I would being stuck on the ground alone. At
the age of 5, I can fondly remember my step father building a tree house in that oak
tree and attaching a rope swing. The addition of the treehouse brought a new love
into my life, but it never took away love of my tree.
A call came that I needed to come home, if I did not come now I would regret it.
Ohio bound, the next flight out, luggage packed, and tears streaming down my face.
I prayed that time would be on myside. Seconds. Minutes. Hours. Why is time so
stagnant? Years have passed since I have been to visit. Walking along that old beat
up fence on a brisk autumn day a tear rolls down my cheek. The beautiful old oak
tree seems frail and withered. More leaves have fallen since last I have been here.
The branches have been stripped bare exposing more of the bark that has faded to
ghostly shades of white and grey. A light breeze stirs the leaves causing the rope
swing to sway back and forth. The last few leaves are barely holding on. Sitting
beneath the tree my tears create a small puddle upon a leaf. Rippling across the top a
reflection appears, but not myself as an adult. A small child with flour upon her
cheek, her tiny hands

Ministers become more Presidential in recent years? In recent times many
commentators have pointed out that the UK s Prime Ministers are increasingly
acting like Presidents of course the UK Prime Minister cannot actually become a
President as the system would not allow it. Below I shall be analysing and
explaining the factors that highlight the growth of presidentialism in the UK, as well
as the points which suggest that the UK s Prime Minister is still a Prime Minister. In
recent years there has been an increase in the growth of spatial leadership. The
tendency of Prime Ministers to distance themselves from their party and government

These sorts of powers would generally be associated with a President, not a Prime
Minister. In the USA, the President and the houses are elected separately, however
in the UK, the Prime Minister is elected, primarily, as an MP it is the leader of the
winning party who gets the role of Prime Minister. However, in recent years,
election campaigns have become really personalised focussing more on the party
leader s personality, strengths and weaknesses rather than the party s policies,
promises and ideas as a whole. The lead up to the next general election
demonstrates this: the party leaders of the three major parties have become the face
of their party s election campaign. The media concentrates more on the party leader
rather than the party as a whole just like in USA. For the first time in British history,
there is going to be live debates between the three leaders again just like the run up to
the American general elections. These points highlight that the UK is beginning to
adopt some American, presidential traditions, it can be said that this is a strong sign
that presidentialism is growing in the UK. Although the UK Prime Minister is elected
separately through Parliamentary elections, unlike the USA President, there is a
trend for Prime Ministers to claim popular authority on the basis of electoral victory.
Prime Ministers have therefore become the ideological consciences of their
25. Zombie Apocalypse Short Story
Karlee Danielson
The gruesome zombie apocalypse had broken out three days ago, and everyone
was in full panic mode as we tried to figure out what to do next. We have to
evacuate the town immediately! shouted the mayor. Everyone suddenly went
quiet, all eyes on the mayor. Then suddenly there was a loud BANG! And the
sound of glass shattering made everyone turn and look towards the door. Then we
realized what was happening. The deadly zombies had made it to Leedey and were
now invading the building! I grabbed my three closest friends and we all looked at
each other frantically with no idea what to do. I noticed an air vent just about big
enough for me to fit in it. We all climbed in the small, dingy, vent and crawled
around until we found an opening going to the outside of the building. After we
checked to make sure the coast was clear, we crawled out and tried not to panic
while trying to figure out what to do next. We spotted some four wheelers parked
on the side of the building and all quickly jumped on one. The first thing we
decided to do is to go get our sisters, who were at the school. We arrived at the school

26. La Belle Dame Sans Merci Annotations
Title is French The Language of Love. Title translates to: The Beautiful Woman
Without Mercy/Pity. The woman in the poem speaks French and that s why the
knight misunderstands her.
The poem has a circular structure, repetition of the first knights words at the
beginning and end of the poem. The first and last stanzas are almost identical. Lots of
lines are repeated throughout.
Title taken from a medieval poem, romanticism celebrated medievalism and its
traditions.

Each stanza is labelled with roman numerals which the helps the story of the poem to
be understood easily and adds the element of structure that goes with the woman s
taming and deception, like she has it all planned out.
The third to the eighth stanza of the poem are emotional and intense. They describe
the knight and women s meeting and mystify the attraction that appears to develop
between them. There are also semantic fields of nature and imagination in these
stanzas.
Alliteration is used to emphasise the meaning the relish, it could be poison for the
knight. The fact that she gives him relish sweet , honey wild and manna dew suggests
that maybe she is overdosing the knight with her power and her supernatural forces.
VII
An elfin grot would be a small hidden secretive place, maybe a cave for the woman.
Whereas, normally, a fairy would have a grotto as her home place. This means the
knight is being deceived; the woman could be a monster or witch if she lives in a
cave.
The woman obviously speaks French, the language of love which is the language
strange . The knight misreads the signals and misunderstands the language but he
doesn t think he s wrong.
She found me roots of relish sweet,
And honey wild, and manna dew,
And sure in language strange she said
I love thee true .

28. The Story Of Ruth Is More Than A Romantic Story
The story of Ruth is more than a romantic story seeking to give hope to the
community in need of finding a husband. The book of Ruth contains a story of
oddities and redemption through the interaction of Ruth, a Moabitess, Naomi,
Ruth s mother in law and Israelite, and Boaz, a man related to Elimelek. The story
starts out by telling the readers the current lineage that is present in the story.
Elimelek and Naomi, from Bethlehem, have two songs named Mahlon and Kilion.
Those two are married to Ruth and Orpah. They lived in Moab but during that time
all the three of the men of this family died. The three woman are left by themselves
and the mother tells them that they should leave her in order to reestablish life in
their homeland. She was now worthless to them as they would only be burdened.
Orpah returns back out of logical decision, which respected the head of the
household and general survival. Ruth on the other decides to stay, respect, and
obey whatever Naomi may need from her. This extends to respecting and following
the cultural laws that belong to Naomi s character. Ruth works the land to provide
food and marries Boaz in order to redeem Elimelek and Naomi s line. The story has
many points that seek to be explained but I would like focus on the concept of Ruth s
identity from the beginning to the end of the story. Ruth helps the people in the story
to reach happiness but she does necessarily not accept the relationship/devotion to the
God figure. The story itself

By introducing eggs to infants starting at six months, the baby will have a higher
blood concentration of choline, other biomarkers in the choline pathways, and

better brains.
Eggs, similar to milk or seeds, support the early growth and development of an

A new study, published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, said that egg
yolks are actually better for building muscle after a workout compared to the same
amount of egg whites. In the research, 18 young men were given an 18 gram serving
of protein from egg yolks or egg whites after they had one weightlifting session.
Researchers took the blood samples and muscle biopsies of the 18 to track their
muscle protein synthesis. Those who were given the egg yolks registered a 40

to maintain health. He observed a lot of stress on protein nutrition in modern society.
Burd said that as the world population grows, there is a need for cost effective and
sustainable strategies to improve the use of protein in the diet. He said that the study
showed consuming egg protein in its natural matrix has a greater benefit than getting
isolated from the same source.

In the beginning, that was my most profound admission, that there was something
missing in Jeff, the part that should have cried out, Stop! Lionel Dahmer (Jeffrey s

killer who lured his unsuspecting victims to his house, savagely killed them, and
then cannibalized their corpses. He is only one of the many serial killers who have
terrorized our world. They are an example of the evil lurking in humanity. These
murderers commit acts so horrendous that it s hard to imagine how anyone could be
capable of these acts. Many who study these people, and the murders they commit,

31. The Standard View Of Pain Essay
Unfelt Pains
The standard view in both philosophy and the sciences treats pains as being
unpleasant experiences: Pains are thought to be phenomenal mental states with a
particular type of phenomenal character ie., pains hurt. The standard view of pain has
a number of implications, including that it rules out the existence of unfelt pains (an
unfelt pain would both lack phenomenal character and lack the specific phenomenal
character of hurting). The sole argument in support of the standard view is that it
corresponds with the common sense conception of pain. In this paper we challenge
this received doctrine, and with it the standard view of pain, by presenting the results
of a series of studies that indicate that lay people tend to hold that unfelt pains are
possible.
I
The standard view of pain holds that pains are phenomenal mental states
(experiences) with a particular type of phenomenal character (unpleasant). This view
is reflected, for example, in the definition given by the International Association for
the Scientific Study of Pain: A pain is an unpleasant sensory and emotional
experience associated with actual or potential tissue damage. And it is also clear in
philosophical discussions. For instance, Kripke (1980, 152) asserts that pain... is not
picked out by one of its accidental properties; rather it is picked out by the property of
being pain itself, by its immediate phenomenological quality. And, of course, this
phenomenological quality is that pains hurt.
32. Marital Rape In The United States
When it comes to marital rape, many do not realize how serious of a crime it is or
how life shattering it can be from the victims. Marital rape is described as a spouse
forcing their partner in sexual acts without their consent. According Langhinrichsen
Rohling and Monson (1998), between 10% and 14% of all married women have
been raped by their husbands in the United States (p. 434). It was not until the late
1970 s that for the first time a spouse was convicted for raping his partner in the
United States. By 1993, it was illegal in every state to rapeyour spouse. It is amazing
how it took nearly fifteen years to recognize marital rape as a crime, but for some
reason today it is not prosecuted the same as stranger rape.

33. Mass Shootings And Its Effects On Society
A major concern in the United States is why mass shootings occur and what needs to
be done to stop them from happening. Mass shootings have gained a significant
amount of attention in 2015. Within the year, a total of 372 mass shootings have
occurred in the United States killing 475 people and wounding 1,870. Mass shootings
have become a popular trend within the media and have given the impression that it
is the new normal. Mass shootings are a dysfunction to society, due to the fact that
they create horror and tragedy within the country. Schools, shopping malls, and even
movie theatres have all endured the horrific violence. Mass shootings are nothing
new, however, they seem to be occurring more often and are becoming more and
more violent. The three leading factors to mass shootings are problematic
masculinity, mental illness, and guncontrol.
Mass shootings in the U.S have many different causes as to why they occur. USA
Today mentions that breakups, estrangements and family related problems make up
the majority of mass killings. Although, many seem to blame gun violence and
mental illnesses. Mass shootings can also involve a failed security system such as
mistakes in the mental health system and gun control. (USA Today, 2013.) People
question whether or not people with mental illness should be allowed to obtain a gun,
while others argue that guns can provide safety when used correctly.
There are a number of aspects as to why gun violence occurs such as race, age, sex,

What does the novel show about society and class differences? Well in the Roaring

theme, it is more common to find it in European and British novels. Most of the
societies are divided between the rich and the older modern way. Fitzgerald reflects
social status through many geographical locations in American, and explains them
by their traits, lifestyles, and mentalities. Fitzgerald illustrates the class differences

different social classes and describes them in a way they act belonging to one of the

39. The Myth Of The Old Testament
The Old Testament generally presents a familial narrative in which the whole
human race descends from one family. This unfolds itself and then focuses in on
Abraham, from whom the line of inheritance is drawn to Israel. The Israelites are
distinctly filled with flaws throughout their history. Whereas Rome as noble stories
of war and triumph, Israel has stories of Old Men wandering the desert. Their
ancestors and heroic figures are not demigods nor epic heros, but merely wandering
men of faith, Patriarchs sold into slavery, and sheep herders. Godforges His chosen
people from the outcasts of humanity. In forging a people of His own, God is named
their Father. He is called such in the Old Testamentin two distinct ways. First, as
specifically the God of Israel. Second, The Father of Israel s king. Explicit notions
of God as the Father of Israel number nine, while He is mentioned as the Father of
the King five times. There are many times in which Israel is called the son of, or the
Israelitesare called the children of, God. The narrative that unfolds with God as the
Father of a Nation and their King is especially vital to understanding the Old
Testament. The Old Testament s explicit mention of God as the Father of Israel come
especially in Deuteronomy, the Psalms, and the Prophets. He is pictured as forming,
protecting, guiding, providing, offering covenants, giving inheritance, and restoring.
The foundational moment of this is found in the book of Deuteronomy.

inadequacies). Dr. Faustus s route from religion to magic seems to be forcedly
cobbled together in order to elicit a certain emotion towards sophists as a whole,
and Marlowe laboriously thrusts Dr. Faustus into becoming an embodiment of the
term thinker in its Momentarily pejorative context. Faustus is represented on the
surface as a free thinker who perhaps thought too much and too freely in his time,
and though Faustus s story was often hailed as a perfect depiction of free thought in
excess, Marlowe seems to be more interested in Faustus s eventual inversion of his
epoch s notion that religion is the necessary vehicle to morality and decency. Faustus
is depicted at the play s beginning as an individual bent on self gratification. His
diverse interests and talents, if we are to take his proclamations of expertise as true,
imply that he is not only a very adept individual, but also a rather insatiable one. This
will of course be the downfall of Faustus, however the foreboding nature of even this
first scene carries implications regarding the text s treatment of free thinking,
existential experimentation, and non conformant exploration. Dr. Faustus ventures to

41. Seymour Schulich STEM Scholarship
This scholarship was created by Seymour Schulich to give an opportunity to
youngsters to shine and innovate the world with their ideas. I mirror his interest in
science and have the same vision to make a difference in lives of others. I am quite
involved within my school and have participated in various activities and
competitions throughout my high schoolyears. I understand how important is to lead
by example and make a difference in the life of others. In order to facilitate the
interest of students in the field of STEM, I worked with teachers and peers to start
a robotics program at the school. This program is very popular at my school and it
gives students a chance to explore science and technology by doing hands on work.

42. Technological Innovations In World War One
War, whether intentional or not, surrounds us and has done for many centuries.
The four years of the First World War saw combat on a scale that had never been
experienced before the conflict was global, it affected countless millions and, due
to rapid technological advances on all sides, the nature of combat changed
significantly. The final days of swords and cavalry charges gave way to the routine
use of machine guns and tanks a new technological era had been heralded, an era we
still live in today. In World War
One (WW1), technological innovations were primarily
aimed at ending the stalemate and aiding the allied victory. War demands the
development of new methods of destruction and with that an increase in technology.
WW1 saw the innovation

The Affirmative Policy Brief
The U.S.F.G should ban the sale of super hero related products intended for minors
Definitions of key terms: (found in Cambridge dictionary) Minor=under 18 years
old Superhero= a character in stories or movies who has special powers, such as the
ability to fly, that are used for fighting evil or helping people Products= something
that is made to be sold, esp. something produced by an industrial process. I argue that
we should impose a ban on the sale of superhero related products intended for minors.
Superhero items stunts development because of violence and imagination confining
scripted toys. We, therefore, should turn to different types of activities that foster a
safer environment and healthier attitude towards play time.
Children are easily impressionable so it is necessary to monitor the play time in
which they partake in. Contention one: The Problem here is superhero items promote
violence.
Claim: We are setting an example to children that it is okay to use force or violence
to attain goals or solve a problem. Superhero play can romanticize fighting and killing
and foster unnecessary aggression. Superhero television shows can undermine
conflict resolution skills and desensitize children to violence. We can t ignore all
these impacts. Evidence: The National Coalition on Television Violence brought to
light Dr. Thomas Radecki s words that, The cartoon and violent toy studies show that
these materials cause children
44. The Chinese Communist Party
Setting the Scene: China had experienced a turbulent century prior to the Communist
Party taking power. It has a long Confucius heritage but was plagued by foreign
imperialism, weak governments, Japanese invasion and civil war until 1949. Mao
and the Communist Party sought to transform China into a Communist society
following the ideology of Marxist Leninism. They established measures to transform
China into a totalitarian state. This required the Communist Party to have complete
power and control over the population. I am researching how the Chinese
Communist Party (CCP) gained this power and control during their first decade in
charge. This question is very significant to understanding change in Modern China.
Historians Points of View Historians have different views on how the CCP exerted
power and control over the population. Many writers between 1955 2000 including
William Hinton, an American writer on China argue that China had been so
damaged by the Japanese and the Civil War that the people just welcomed peace.
They welcomed the Communist victory as a return the country to order and many
looked forward to more fairness in how things were done after the corruption of the
past. Therefore he concludes that initially most people cooperated willingly with
Communist rule. Jung Chang and Jon Halliday Author Jung Chang and Jon Halliday
do not accept the uncompromising justifications for Mao s rise to power. Chang
described Mao as a dictator who manipulated everyone

*Pankration* According to Nigel Binns, in his book Nuba Wrestling, the original
art he speaks of the Greecian art of wrestling boxing called Pankration, which was
originally an art form from Africa (It is similar to Nuba Wrestling mixed with
Hausa Boxing) and that the Greeks adopted it as their own. Nigel noted, their style
of wrestling called Pankration is said to derive its name from two ancient Egyptian
gods; Raand Aton. Therefore Pan Ra Aton/ or Pankration meaning all powerful God,
or spirit.
He also makes mention that the name Greece is from Africa Ni grecia (Land of
Blacks) and that the Greeks were very fond of African cultures in that day and time.
Most of the Greeks civilization is customed and fashioned in the Nubian style from
Arcutecture to Artistry, to Philosophy to Theosophy and the many doctrines of the

men of Africa, whom to them (the Greeks) were Gods. (One old 5% lesson refers the

46. Comparing The Superstitious Man s Story And The Call
Comparing The Superstitious Man s Story And The Call
Iam comparing the two stories, The Superstitious Man written by Thomas Hardy and
The Call written by Robert Westall.
The Superstitious Man s story is narrated by a third person. We don t actually find out
much about the narrator because not much is mentioned. However in The Call the
story is narrated by the rota secretary of the local Samaritans.
Tension in The Superstitious Man is built up in many ways in the story, when Betty
finishes her ironing she decides to go up to their chamber but to her great surprise,
on reaching the foot the staircase she sees Williams boots, standing in the same place
as they always stood, when he had gone to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The tension in The Call is built up by the call s Meg and Geoff receives in the story.
One of the call s they received was a woman who sounded very frightened. A voice
spoke through the crackle. A female voice. He s going to killme. I know he s going to
kill me. The story keeps you in suspense, and makes you think what is happening to
the woman on the other side of the phone.
The appearance of the ghosts in The Superstitious Man s story are described as
faint shapes of all the people who are to die, or to get over their illness within the
year going in to the church. faint shapes of all the folk in the parish who are going to
be at death s door within the year can be seen entering the church. Those who get over
their illness come out again after a while.
However in The Call Meg describes the female who calls them for help as an old lady
who is lonely and frightened. an old lady who s living in the past. Some old lady
who s muddled and lonely and frightened. As we read on in the story we find out
that the female calling Meg and Geoff for help is actually the sprit of Agnes Todd.
She was a lame wife living with Reg Todd the owner of Moresby Locks, twenty one
years ago. On one Christmas Eve, 1964, she and her little white dog were reported
missing to the police. The body

Further, the computer reports summarized the product type for each store, usual

more important for the store managers to sell cookies than to maintain paper work.
The MIS structure was in place and was used to keep records across the stores

48. Gun Control And School Safety
Guns in the Classroom Destiny Casey Student ID# 000410720 WGU Guns in the
Classroom Allowing teachers to carry guns will allow teachers to prevent school
shootings on the grounds of preschool through college campuses. Everyone has
their own opinion about teachers being able to carry guns including other teachers,
parents, and government officials. Depending on what state the teacher is
teaching in determines if they can carry their gun now, if they are in the process of
being able to, or if their state is not passing a law to allow them to carry their gun
while at school. Teachers would not stand out like police officers or security
officers would while in the school which would allow for other teachers and all of
the students to have normal days if schools did not have officers before. Research
shows that allowing some teachers to carry guns in their school promotes school
safety, protects the teachers and students, and promotes gun safety while still
teaching their students. Guns in schools promote school safety, by allowing teachers
to have guns in the classroom you are letting students and parents know you want
their children to be safe while they are in your school or classroom all day away
from their parents. Bender talks about what teachers can do to prevent weapons in the
classroom and to help other teachers if something arises and they need backup
assistance from another teacher. Preventing guns from being in the classroom rules

There were some attempts to address the meaning of money, most of the definition
include that money is the medium of exchange, as it is the most important purpose
of money. However, as described by F. A Bradford (1932), because of using money
as a medium of exchange it consequently performs additional functions as it will be
discussed later. Moreover, W. E. Mason (1976) demonstrated in his work that the
empirical definition of money has several flaws. For example it is the confusion of
concept and quantity of money, confusion of supply and demand, lack of empirical
evidence for empirical definition or the confusion of empirical verification with
hypothesization.
Definition of money according to F. A. Bradford (1932): Money is anything which is
devoted to use primarily as a medium of exchange and which, because of this use,
performs certain other useful functions .
Definition of money by Professor Taylor (Cited in Money, 1932, p.3): Money is
something which is especially designed for, and devoted to, serving as a medium of
exchange or because of its being a recognized medium of exchange or because of the
nature of the substance from which it is made.
Money is, in other words, a complete abstraction one that we are all intimately
familiar with but whose growing complexity defies our comprehension. (J.
Surowiecki, 2012)
The last definition of money was based on the Kublai Khan s believe, that money

Baroque art encompasses a broad range of art from Dutch genre paintings to dramatic
and theatrical Italian pieces. Because of the religious, socio economic, and political
events of the time, Baroque art can hardly been contained into one description.
Politically, the rulers and monarchies used commissioned art to emphasize assert their
authority, power and right to rule. Religiously, the Reformation caused the Catholic
Church to commission provoking pieces of piety and devotion. And Socio
economically, the rising middle class in many areas of Europe wanted pieces of art to
further improve prestige in the social scene and improve their reputation. These three
developments that came with the transition from the Renaissance age to the Baroque

The Villa Borghese, owned by Cardinal Scipione Borghese, was a place where visitors
would view, respond and discuss the immense collection of art, which brought
together both antique and modern pieces of art. Many of the pieces were a mix of
old and new works and artists were commissioned to give unified fragments a
character in the collection, showing the new way of inventiveness at the end of the
seventeenth century. During this specific time, artists such as Gian Lorenzo Bernini
were huge influencers in the art world. His pieces Apollo and Daphne, 1623 4;
Rape of Proserpina, 1621 2; and Hermaphrodite, unknown, depict the story of
ancient myths, and were commissioned to be conversation pieces that generate
multiple meanings, senses of realism, and juxtapositions. The Cardinal also trusted
Bernini to create a bust of himself title Cardinal Scipione Borghese, in 1632. The
piece was executed beautifully and portraying a lively Cardinal, so realistic in its
depiction that the only thing missing was speech. The piece helped to endorse
Scipione s social positions and prestige. The spectators would discuss the different
stories behind the pieces as they moved around and saw the changing points of
view as well as marveled at Bernini s ability to create artistic illusion and make
marble look like leaves, skin, bark, and hair. Scipione s Villa included a vast
collection that displayed the history of artistic styles together by showcasing artists
who created pieces that engaged viewers to see the life in

Law Enforcement Use of Domestic Drones
There is an ongoing debate over local law enforcement s ability to use domestic
drones to aid in operations. Domestic drones or UAVs , Unmanned Aerial Vehicles,
have the potential to carry out many tasks like surveillance or riot control. Imagine
a scenario where there is a possible bomb threat. A drone could be used for the

could potentially be in danger. On the other hand there is the issue of armed drones
that could lead to the abuse of power.
