Essay about Nvq Level 3 Adult Social Care
Understand how duty of care contributes to safe practice. 1. Explain what it means to have a duty of
care in own work role. It is very important as we are responsible for all the members while they are
attending the project and it would not be professional if any of them were to come to any harm. 2.
Explain how duty of care contributes to the safeguarding of protection of individuals. Duty of care is a
requirement to exercise a reasonable degree of attention and caution to avoid negligence which would
lead others to harm. You need to be aware of the surrounds at all time and check if there are any

The Major Causes Of Globalization
The reshaping of countries in the latter half of the twentieth century due to nationalist endeavours has
resulted in a commonality across a wider spectrum. The wider spectrum is a globalised community
that is able to interact and therefore increase the market (if you like) of foreign fighters. Urri defines
globalisation as the increased density of international and global interactions, compared with such
interactions at the local or national level . The CIAs forecast in 2000 predicted some of the major
affects of globalisation that is present today predicting Globalisation s evolution will be rocky, marked
by chronic financial volatility a widening economic divide where regions, countries, and groups
feeling left behind face deepening economic stagnation, political instability, and cultural alienation.
This will foster political, ethnic, ideological, and religious extremism, along with the violence that
often accompanies it. As Cronin argues the trend of globalisation is seen as westernisation, secularism,
democratisation, consumerism, and the growth of market capitalism, threatens what is perceived as the
fundamental elements of certain societies, not to mention the uneven distributions of wealth as a
result. The gap between social groups is prime territory for foreign fighters to step into to promote the
common feelings and experience of the ill effects of globalisation. The frustrations of globalisation are
gathered through global interactions and are able to gain momentum in what Malet describes as
transnational communities. As Malet points out citing Tarrow, transnational social movements have
grown in the latter half of the twenty first century from one hundred in the 1950s to one thousand in
2003. This confirms that people now see themselves more as a part of a transnational community
rather than a local one. Transnational communities are formed by frustrated individuals and groups
who see themselves marginalised due to the macro changes initiated by increased global interactions.
Access to global markets and communications have further perpetuated the sustainability of
transitional organisations, strengthening these communities. Global interaction have enabled
individuals and organisations to

Halloween is a holiday with many traditions that date back thousands of years. Credibility Statement:
I grew up in a very strict, religious household and I was not allowed to celebrate Halloween, which is
probably what led to my rebellious love for this haunted holiday. Preview Statement: First, I will go
into detail about the origins of Halloween. Then, I will talk about how the origins translate into our

In the 2002 book, Halloween: From Pagan Ritual to Party Night, author Nicholas Rogers points out,
Halloween is commonly thought to have pagan origins, even though the etymology is Christian.
Halloween is, quite literally, the derivative of All Hallow Even, or the eve of All Saints Day (1
November). Taken together with All Souls Day, which falls on 2 November, it is a time assigned in the
Christian calendar for honoring the saints and newly departed. 1. The name All Hallow Even has
evolved over time, it eventually became Hallowe en, and then to what we know the holiday now as:
Halloween. 2. Halloween was a day to celebrate the deceased, followed by a time to pray for them. B.
Halloween also comes from the sacred Celtic festival, Samhain. 1. On the eve of Samhain, the Celts
believed the dead, both ghosts and demons, were allowed to roam free. 2. TRANSITION: Now that
we know where Halloween came from, let s talk about how these origins translate into current
Halloween traditions. II. Now, I will explain how our American Halloween traditions, such as dressing
up, trick or treating, and carving jack o lanterns, came to

Casey At Bat Analysis
In the poem Casey at Bat and story David and Goliath, a comparison of David and Casey shows
differences and similarities. Here is how they are both alike. Casey and David are both alike because
they both had a battle and they felt like they were going to win that battle. I know this because in the
articles it said that the people knew that Casey was going to hit the ball and if the people believe that
means that Casey would believe. It also said in one of the articles that David felt like he was going to
win because he had God on his side. So if David believed that he was going to win because of God
and Casey believed he was going to win because of the people cheering for him that means that they
both have a reason to feel like they are ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In Casey up to Bat his battle was to hit the ball and he struck out. In David and Goliath David s battle
was to kill Goliath and he did. If one struck out and the other killed a giant that means that one lost
their battle and the other didn t. Another way I think they are different is because Casey boasted and
David did not. In Casey up to bat it said that Casey said that pitch isn t my style. In David and Goliath
it said that David said that he was going to win because God was on his side. This proves that Casey
boasted and David did not because if you watch something go by you think that it s not good enough
then that is boasting because not everything is going to be perfect. David did not boast because he had
a reason to think that he was going to win and he didn t act like he was all that. The last reason why I
think they are different is because David was judged in a bad way and Casey was judged in a good
way. In David and Goliath it said that David s brothers called him a brat. Casey was judged in a good
way because in Casey up to bat it said that everyone thought that he was going to hit. If you get called
a brat that is offensive so that would be a bad judgement. If everyone believes that you are going to hit
the baseball that would be a good judgement because people trust you.In the poem Casey at Bat and
story David and Goliath, a comparison of David and

Street Art And Graffiti
Street art and graffiti has grown increasingly popular worldwide in the last few decades. This is
because street artists are given the opportunity to showcase their ideas and opinions freely, and do not
allow themselves to be limited by regulations of the law or public opinion. Street artists can express
the unpopular opinion without worry that they will be punished for it, as these artists often work
anonymously. According to Michael DeNotto from St. Mary s University of Minnesota, street art
allows the artist to reject established standards, encourage experimentation, and draw from popular
culture and advertising (Street Art and Graffiti, 1). They are given the canvas of public property such
as sidewalks and building walls to create art pieces that can be viewed by potentially anyone.
However, the fact that the audience for street art is so vast can also lead to disagreements about the
content or location of the art, and difference in opinion between the artist and the viewers.
Street art can be used as a method of openly expressing opinions on controversial matters, such as
war, laws, public figures, social issues, and more. In Street Art San Francisco by Annice Jacoby, there
are several art pieces depicting anguish and disapproval. There is a mural of a person crying over
loved ones who have past away, with the words, Those We Love, We Remember. There is another
painted across a fence, depicting the lives affected by the AIDS epidemic in Africa. Across the bottom,

Disadvantages Of Political Dynasty
Political dynasty is a well known method of politicians in the Philippines wherein the members of the
family been made also a member of the government in order for them to not lose power but gain more
power. This act abides an unfair and unjust for the reason that the government is not a business that a
family can run by themselves, but the government is for all and other people should be given chances
wherein they can be the one that leads a community. The government or politics is not a business that
can be run by generation and generation of a family the government comprises a critical part of a
community having different leaders in every generation and not only one leader that has his or her
family in the position of the government cause the system will not change it will just proceed

The other disadvantage of this is once a family starts having political dynasty they will thirst for
dominance they would harbor more power in their family they would want to dominate the society
and considering of that attitude it will lead to the fall of the society and its people. According to
Angela Casauay, The House Bill 3587 or the act prohibiting the Establishment of Political Dynasties
seeks to prohibit relatives and according to Jan Danelle A. Patindol, up to the second degree of
consanguinity to hold or run for both national and local office in Successive, simultaneous, or

Leadership Reflection For Senior Leadership
According to the Introduction to Strategic Studies Course Directive, This year presents an opportunity
to walk in the shoes of senior leaders making difficult and complex decisions before you begin
wearing them upon graduation. From the above sentence I can conclude that, this paper could be the
beginning of my journey to wear the higher level leaders shoes. As I am now starting preparation for a
future senior leadership assignment, I have to equip myself with the required knowledge and skills in
order to act as senior military leader.
Therefore, Thomas Galvin outlines four mission specific roles and senior military leaders should also
take lessons from history, like from The Gulf War, 1990 1991, .
The four roles are, a strategic advisor and communicator, a strategic planner, a strategic theorist, and
senior leader at the strategic level. So that this paper will focus mainly on my reflection towards to the
first two mission specific roles.
Therefore, my choice from the roles are the strategic advisor and communicator, and the strategic
planner because working to exercise these roles would have more benefit to jump for the rest two
roles. From the case study, I have selected General Collin Powel and General H. Norman
Schwarzkopf roles from the case study. In order to link and reflect my future area that should be
strengthen. Their roles and experiences are good examples that are helpful as I prepare myself and
work enthusiastically in order to strengthen my senior

Persepolis Identity Essay
People grow up in different way, affected by many different things as they grow and mature, during
the process people change perspectives and ideals. In the book Persepolis by Marjane Satrapi, a
middle eastern girl who is coming of age, finds that her environment changes her as the country that
she is in goes through an unstable violent state. With the rise of multiple changes, Marji s family must
learn how to adjust to the changing times. While Marji becomes a bystander to the persecution,
violence ,and revolution, the main theme of the book is stay true to one s self and forming one s true
identity through their own will. Marjane Satrapi shows how the quirky, but simple and straightforward

The story starts pre revolution, while Marji, the main character is 6 years old. She has a concrete grasp
of her identity, even though very elementary and childish . At this age she only has one goal in her
mind: At the age of six, I was already sure I was the last prophet. (6 Satrapi). She has clean cut idea of
what she wants to do, which is to not discriminate on a class basis: I wanted to be a prophet because
our maid did not eat with us (6). Also, Marji she wanted to ease her grandmother s suffering : ...and

Crooks Dialectical Journal
After reading chapter 3 and 4 of the novel Of Mice and Men, an important quote stood out to me
among the rest of the passage. On page 68, Crooks responded to Lennie s sudden entrance, You go on
get outta my room. I ain t wanted in the bunkhouse, and you ain t wanted in my room. Earlier chapters
describe how he was not allowed to sleep in the bunkhouse with everyone else and had to be separated
in a room by himself. Moreover, it is a rare occasion does people ever visit him, on the exception for
Slim. The obvious interpretation would be the connection it holds to the racism that existed at the
time, but I perceived a deeper connection behind his response.
Although Crooks is a diligent and hardworking stable buck, he experiences loneliness from unequal
treatment by others. Thus, his impetuous response to Lennie came from the hardships he went through
for being the only African American on the ranch. To some extent, people s comments and actions

He resented how he was not allowed to live in the bunkhouse, therefore denying Lennie permission to
enter his room. On the other hand, the book suggest that Lennie just wanted someone to talk to while
George was gone, from which he says, Noting I seen your light. I thought I could jus come in an set.
Crooks then goes on criticizing Lennie how he stinks at playing cards, only because others say he
stunk at playing it. All the injustice Crooks faced is directly affecting upon how he treats others.
Author John Steinbeck does a phenomenal job in conveying important ideas through characters such
as Crooks. This specific quote stood out to me because it reminded me of how this idea can be applied
to problems we as a society are facing today, of one such as bullying. Not only does this quote refer to
discrimination at the time, it also suggest the idea such that people often treat others the way they had

A Simplified Approach On Dynamic Response
A Simplified Approach on Dynamic Response of Tall
Buildings due to Wind loads
Abstract: In this paper, a simplified approach on dynamic response of tall buildings due to turbulent
wind load is proposed to get a proper modification factor used in equivalent static wind load method.
The approach undertakes the investigation of turbulent wind loads on high rise buildings in one of the
frequency domain analysis to get Peak Dynamic Response (PDR). This simplified method is
developed by using the Power Spectral Density Analysis in Sap 2000. The turbulent wind spectrum,
aerodynamic admittance and vertical coherence for buffeting wind loading are estimated using Kaimal
spectrum, empirical relationship proposed by Vickery and Spatial Coherence of Davenport . The
building models conditions are documented as a data bank. Then, the proposed design method is
introduced by using design data bank. Then, the method is analyzed by the case studies with respect to
various wind speed and height of storeys. By introducing this proposed method at the initial stage of
analysis and design, less controlled parameters in analysis and computational effort in specified
regions than standard procedures can be obtained.
Key Words: Simplified Approach, Modification Factor, Peak Dynamic Response (PDR), Power
Spectral Density Analysis, and Buffeting Wind Loading
Introduction: Wind is caused by differences in pressure. When a difference in pressure exists, the air is
accelerated from higher to lower

The Unity of the Mind and Body
The Unity of the Mind and Body Both Michel De Montaigne and John Donne argue that the
cultivation of the mind is linked to the well being of the body. Both argue that a mind void of proper
enrichment and education will lead to an unhealthy body. However, Montaigne argues that the
appropriate means of #8220;education and enrichment #8221; are studying and following the works of
other great thinkers of history. Additionally, Montaigne declares imagination to be the impetus for the
downfall of the body. Conversely, Donne argues that a mind groomed in imagination is the proper
mode of finding bodily health. In their writings, both Montaigne and Donne are seeking a unity
between the mind and the body. By comparing Montaigne #8217;s ... Show more content on

He declares that the #8220; #8230;comical impediments which so embarrass our society that they talk
of nothing else are most likely caused by apprehensions and fears #8221;(pg.39). These apprehensions
and fears are brought on, Montaigne argues, by an imagination that controls the mind and body.
Montaigne even goes as far as to call imagination the culprit for many people falling ill, as he says
that the reason some people become sick is that their imaginations concoct how bad they could feel,
and their bodies simple follow suit. He states that #8220; #8230;the mind must generally be prepared
in advance. #8221;(pg.41) in order for the body to feel a certain way. Montaigne #8217;s whole
argument in the essay reflects his distaste for the cultivation of a mind through imagination and his
idea that imagination leads to an unhealthy mind and consequently, an unhealthy body. John Donne
#8217;s general viewpoint on the relationship between the mind and the health of the body differs
greatly from Montaigne #8217;s. Donne #8217;s theory is simply that the path to a healthy body is an
imagination. He claims that the imagination is the machine responsible for creating the ideas that
make the body feel good. As for education, he argues that the highest forms of education are not from
history books or philosophers, but

Stock Car Racing Research Paper
Stock car racing has been around for a long time dating back into the 1900s. In the very beginning
race cars were not the safest cars out there. Some people lost their lives and many life changing
injuries were to follow. As the years passed the safety and speed increased in racing. After the
founding of NASCAR the sport evolved. Each principle in the sport had a chemistry related reason to
back the decision. The metal alloys and the densities combined with the property of each metal plays a
huge part. The added elements to the gasoline makes the cars not only faster but also more durable
under the stressful conditions put on the engine. Scientist for companies also used a new chemical to

Many of the bars and metals on the car are alloys of some sort. Alloys are mixtures of metals to get
certain properties needed that not only one metal can produce. Many metals need to be bent at precise
angles but still need to be extremely strong. Alloy combinations have changed throughout the
evolution of the sport. The text states One of the first widely used alloys was bronze (copper and tin);
followed by brass (copper and zinc). The benefits of an alloy over a pure metal can include increased
tensile strength, and shear strength ( harberger). The multiple combinations show that as more alloys
were discovered they utilized them if the provided any advantage. Some of the first alloys used in the
cars used copper as a main element in the mixture. Mixing these elements gave the meatal the best of
both worlds. It could increase more than one type of strength when a pure metal was only good for
one. As time evolved other elements such as carbon got a key role in the alloys. The author states The
body panels have a lower carbon steel, which is lighter, while the chassis, which has to withstand great
forces during the race and protect the driver, is made of higher carbon steel that is designed to hold its
shape while withstanding the g force pressures (hartberger). The more carbon steel the more rigid and
strong the alloy becomes. The body must be light and flexible so it contains less carbon

King Arthur And The Winter King Similarities
While reading The Acts of King Arthur and His Noble Knights by John Steinbeck and The Winter
King by Bernard Cornwell, I noticed that there are both differences and similarities between the
legends told in the novels. Before reading these novels I had barely any background knowledge of any
King Arthur legends so I was learning new things as I read. The two novels portray both things that
Arthur did and the characters he was involved with very differently. Even though there were some
similarities, both authors added their own twist to the legends. Furthermore, I will be discussing the
similarities and differences between the treatments of Arthurian legend in both novels. To begin with,
the first thing I would like to discuss would be the actual legend behind King Arthur. In The Acts of
King Arthur, Arthur pulls a sword out of a stone to prove he is King and the novel goes in depth into
how he is conceived rather than what Arthur actually does.. In The Winter King, Arthur is not ... Show

The Lines By Jodi Picoult And Samantha Vanleer
For this portion of my summer assignment, I read Between the Lines by Jodi Picoult and Samantha
VanLeer. I have selected twelve important and meaningful passages from the novel as well as a Quote
of the Book . Between the Lines is about a girl, Delilah, and a book character, Oliver, that despite the
limits of the story, connect and can even speak to one another. Oliver had never felt as if he d
belonged in his book and dreaded living the same plot over and over every single time someone
opened his book. So, he asked Delilah to help him get to her world and leave the book. After many
failed attempts, Delilah, with the help of a boy named Edgar, is able to get Oliver out of the book, but
only because Edgar willingly switches places with Oliver. Finally, the passages I have selected are
ones that are important, if not necessary to the book, and it was difficult to only select thirteen total.
My first selected passage is from pages nineteen and twenty. I did not write the lines I speak; they
were given to me long before I remember. I mouth the words, but the actual sound is in the Reader s
mind, not coming from my throat. Similarly, all the moves that we make as if we re performing a play

The Science Of Human Physical Activity
In Chapter one of our text, Introduction to Kinesiology the Science of Human Physical Activity by
Stephan Wallace. We are introduced to three major types of movement, Sportive movement, symbolic
movement, and supportive movement. At the basis of all three movements they are very similar
although they highlight different attributes of an athlete or a person living an everyday lifestyle.
Sportive movement is identified as a skill related physical activity, meaning any competitive activity
that has a clear winner or loser. Sportive movement also has the implication that one person can be
superior to another in that sport because, their skill level is significantly higher than other teammates.
An example would be a varsity football athlete and a college football athlete. What can make the
college player superior than a varsity player is that his muscle mass has a higher density, making the
hits have a greater force than that of a varsity player. Another possibility that could make the college
athlete s performance be superior is the skill level at which they train at. Symbolic movement refers to
physical activity that expresses thoughts and feelings through the body; the main emphasis being
physical expressiveness (Wallace 2013). This type of movement is seen in the art division, such as
dance, music, poetry, literature. With symbolic movement, we are expressing our thoughts; our

Facebook Case IPO
Facebook, Inc: The Initial Public Offering Introduction Facebook, which was founded by Mark
Zuckerberg in February 2004, is an online social networking platform with the mission of making the
world more open and connected. Within a few years, Facebook attracted millions of new users, from 1
million Monthly Active Users to 845 millions Monthly Active Users. Though competing with global
and regional corporations in the industry, Facebook kept growing rapidly. With the high expectation of
investors, Facebook finally decided to go public. The Red Herring of Facebook stated that its goal was
to connect all two billion global Internet users. Basing on our analysis of Facebook s IPO, we would

However, by mid May it had fallen to $12.17 with a loss of 39 percent post IPO. Zynga, the online
gaming company, went public in December 2011 and issued 100 million shares at $10/share, which
was at the ceiling of the price talk of $8.50 to $10.00. Zynga s share price fell by 5 percent on the first
day of trading and by mid May was still 14.4 percent below the IPO price. Intrinsic value refers to the
value of a company, stock, currency or product determined through fundamental analysis without
reference to its market value. It is ordinarily calculated by summing the discounted future income
generated by the asset to obtain the present value. In this case, Facebook s intrinsic value is its
estimate value/share from Discounted Cash Flow analysis. As it is showed in Exhibit 3, Facebook s
estimated value/share is $32.44 using Discounted Cash Flow analysis. The price from the price talk is
$38, which was raised from around $28 to $35 to $34 to $38 per share because of the overwhelming
demand from investors. And the price talk is 17% higher than the intrinsic value. Based on our one
way sensitivity analysis of seven variables as it is showed in Exhibit 4, which are revenue growth rate,
terminal growth rate, pre tax operating margin, increase in Capex, increase in NWC, cost of capital
and marginal tax rate, we conclude that cost of capital and pre tax operating margin are the two most
sensitive variables from our calculation of the slope rate R. And our two way

The Potential for Future Crop Loss Essay
The Potential for Future Crop Loss
On the subject of potential crop loss there are several variables, which influence drought and plant
disease resulting in a loss of crops.
The first variable is that of drought. Drought is a result of shifting weather patterns, which changes the
amount of precipitation an area receives. There are three major causes of drought, deficient and
unfavorably distributed precipitation, excess heat and warm winds (Nemanishen, 1998, p.35).
Historically the grasslands of North America have had a highly varied climate with years of drought
immediately followed by years of sufficient precipitation. For example, in the area of the Palliser
Triangle in the grasslands of Canada, wheat crop loss has been seen ... Show more content on

Krick identified twelve major North American weather patters which paved the way for long term
weather forecasts that are now used universally in farming and crop production (Nemanishen, 1998,
p.27). It is understood that migratory cold blows bring moisture to the Great Plains and grasslands it is
important to track these cold blows in order to identify wet and drought seasons. Also understood is
the effect humans have on the weather patterns. At least two of the past three major droughts have
coincided with changes in the general circulation of the atmosphere over the northern hemisphere
(Borchert, 1971, p.7). It is undeniable that human use of land has modified atmospheric moisture
patterns. Also effecting moisture patterns is solar radiation. For example, in years with high volcanic
activity solar radiation was lower because the atmosphere was not as transparent. Higher solar
radiation results in less precipitation due to excess heat resulting in drought (Nemanishen, 1998, p.36).
It is difficult to deny that drought occurs rhythmically, however, on account of the great randomness
of weather we are only able to forecast when the next drought may be and gauge its severity
depending on what is known about the previous years.
Another variable resulting in crop loss is that of plant disease, and more specifically late blight. Late
blight is caused by the plant pathogen Phytophthora infestans

Diversity and Inclusion
Diversity is a notion, when applied to the majority of circumstances, can create a positive conclusion.
The trick to producing a positive outcome is often how the different aspects are brought together.
Consider a classic dinner combination peas and carrots, the two colors look appealing and the two
flavors comes together as one making a superb side dish. Now consider oil and water, these two
substance are not often considered a good combination. Although, this is not always the case; olive oil
and vinegar (which is water based) when mixed, come together into a delectable salad dressing.
Diversity and inclusion should also apply to humans by bringing people together who are different it

In reviewing text book Racial and Ethnic Groups put forth the notion that socialites are made up by a
number of different groups and subgroups. The two main groups are the dominant or the majority, and
the other is subordinate or the minority. It is also purposed as highlighted by Schaefer (2011) that
There are four types of minority or subordinate groups. All four, except where noted, have the five
properties previously outlined. The four criteria for classifying minority groups are race, ethnicity,
religion, and gender. (Schaefer, R. T. 2011, p. 7). In the two text books there is a definite effort to try
to bring order to cultural diversity by dividing the population into groups. This approach, although
logically understandable and useful, needs to consider that these groups are made up by individual
people, and all people are unique. With what ethnic, cultural, or other groups do you identify?
When I considering the groups that I identify with there are a number of primary groups that come to
mind family and friends, religious beliefs, American, work, student, male, and recreational activates.
With these primary groups in mind there are certainly subgroups that fall under them. In terms what
this means to me and who I am, these category s truly part of my day to day life. But, I am not the
categories, rather I view myself as an individual, and that the different aspects of who I am

Selma because, I like Martin Luther King and I heard about this movement. Martin Luther King is one

A Brief Summary Of Documentar Documentary Films
Smith was able to narrative a story of a filmmaker as he struggled with his addiction of drugs and
alcohol. He also captured how Borchardt s best friend fixed his alcohol addiction by adopting a new
addiction, gambling. His friend wanted to make money so he could help fund the short films that were
in production. The main subjects seemed as they were actors because they were so different that it felt
almost fake. Smith also showed Borchardt s obsession with creating and finishing a short horror film.
Borchardt consistently talked about how badly he needed to finish Coven throughout the documentary.
He does get the video done because he was also obsessed with finishing his project in order to get
money for his next project. He was so obsessed to get his film done he asked his dying uncle Bill for
money continuously. After his uncle passed away he left him money in his will so Borchardt could
finish Northwestern. Borchardt did everything he could in order to finish the film. Even though it
seemed as if he had a drinking problem he was still able to complete a product he was happy about.
Borchardt is still making short films today including movies like Cabin Fever 2: Spring Fever and

Whilst the Allied victory of World War II often has considerable connotations with the D Day landings
of British and US troops, the significant contributions of the USSR that allowed such events to occur
with such success must be acknowledged. The Germans engagement on the Eastern Front ultimately
gave the opportunity for the Western Allied invasion of Germany to occur, as a large percentage of
total German troops were defeated by the Red Army on the Eastern Front, the Luftwaffe was
devastated by endless supplies of enemy Soviet aircraft, and the remaining German divisions were
forcefully divided unequally between the two fronts; leaving the western German defences

Gay Rights Argumentative Essay
The government s recognition of Civil Unions between Gays/Lesbians. The government should
recognize civil unions. In February of 2004, San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom ordered county
officials to issue marriage licenses to same sex couples, and the first same sex couple to get married
there was Phyllis Lyon and Del Martin. Their marriage did not last long, though, due to the California
Supreme Court voiding the Mayor s actions on August 12, 2004, as given in the book called Gay
Rights, created by Peggy J. Parks. In the late 1900 s, there were laws that were recently struck down
that made same sex activity illegal. Some laws were called the Sodomy Laws, which means any
sexual activity that goes against nature, were struck down as well with these other laws. Even though
it is considered immoral by many, Civil unions should be recognized because it seems to be the equal
of marriage and it will advance gay rights by recognizing them. The point is the government should
legally recognize Civil Unions as the equivalent to marriage of straight couples, at the least.

Statistics Is Making Sense Of Common Data And Knowing When...
In this paper, I will speak about what I would ve learned about statistics if I had an instructor that was
helpful and fostered the spread of education. Statistics is making sense of common data and knowing
when you use data analysis techniques, and formulas while making connections between them.
Statistics enables the collection, analysis, interpretation, presentation, and organization of data.
According to David Hand (2016), One good working definition of statistics might be that it is the
technology of extracting meaning from data (p. 2). There are several elements that are instrumental in
the study statistics that will be discussed in this paper that include by are not limited to descriptive
statistics, inferential statistics, hypothesis development and testing, selection of appropriate statistical
tests and evaluating statistical results.
DESCRIPTIVE STATISTICS Descriptive statistics helps describe, show or summarize data in a
meaningful way such that, for example, patterns might emerge from the data. It implies a simple
quantitative summary of a dataset that has been collected, and aids statisticians and students in
understanding experiments or a data set in detail and tells about the required details that help put the
data in perspective. According to A. Santucci (2014), almost all research investigations involve
studying a sample of individuals randomly selected from a population with the goal of applying what
is learned from the sample to all the individuals who

The Development Of Carbon Fibre
The Development of Carbon Fibre in Formula 1. What is carbon fibre? Carbon fibre is an extremely
strong material that is also super lightweight. The material has many uses in engineering and design,
and this case study will discuss the advantages and disadvantages. McLaren first introduced carbon
fibre into chassis construction of the MP4 in 1981. Apart from the cars engine, wheel rims and
gearbox, all twenty two Formula 1 cars that competed in the 2014 season bodies, are made of carbon
fibre. [1] Properties of Carbon fibre. Design technicians and engineers love to use carbon fibre in
manufacturing as it has many desirable properties. First of all is its strength. Carbon fibre is five times
stronger than steel and is twice as stiff [2]. The strands of carbon are lined up parallel to each other
when producing a sheet. For maximum results in strength, the fibres must be parallel with the forces
that will act upon that element, this is to make sure it can withstand the forces going through the
object when in use. Carbon fibre is also very lightweight. This property is a huge advantage in car
production. By using carbon fibre instead of steel in building car components reduces the weight of
the car by 60% [2]. In turn, this reduction in weight cuts the car s fuel consumption by 30% and
reduces greenhouse gases and other emissions by 15%[2]. Below shows a detailed table of the
strength to weight ratio of carbon fibre. Carbon fibre also shows that it is a leading 21st

Atrial Septal Defect Case Study
Atrial septal defect(ASD) is a common congenital heart disease with a female to male ratio of
approximately 2:1.The most common type of Atrial Septal Defect is a secundum defect which is
characterized by a defect in the inter atrial septum which allows pulmonary venous return from the left
atrium to pass directly to the right atrium. Normally the patients with Atrial Septal Defect remain
asymptomatic up to third or fourth decade of life and in the middle age some clinical symptoms can be
observed. A shunt is the presence of a net flow of blood through the defect, either from left to right or
right to left. The amount of shunting actually determines the hemodynamic significance of the ASD. A

Doppler imaging and echo PIV cannot measure the velocity in a direction perpendicular to the beam,
but Vector Flow Mapping (VFM) allows the calculation of velocities perpendicular to the direction of
the beam without angle dependency with the use of the continuity equation and speckle tracking
echocardiography[14]. This energy loss is assumed to become a new indicator of cardiac function[15].
So, it is considered an effective index to monitor the blood flow efficiency within the heart chambers
under various pathological conditions. Blood is viscous in nature and generates frictional heat due to
viscosity at the site where turbulent flows occur[16]. In case of Atrial Septal Defect blood flows
through the hole across the atrial chambers and creates a turbulence in the atrial as well as ventricle
chambers during early diastole, ventricular systole and atrial contraction, which probably ensue an
increased intra cardiac Energy Loss.
Therefore, the aim of this study was to use the new technique of Vector Flow Mapping (VFM) to
measure the reference values of intra cardiac energy loss in ASD patients pre and post occlusion

Hypotheses On the Origin of Birds Essay
Hypotheses On the Origin of Birds
Since the advent of the theory of evolution the origin of birds has been a thriving topic in science.
Many ideas and hypotheses have been presented, but only two stand today: that birds are descendents
of ancient thecodont stem reptiles, and that birds are the direct descendents of a group of dinosaurs
known as the coelurosaurs. Both hypotheses pose many interesting and insightful ideas based on
information obtained from the fossil record. There is not enough evidence at this time to determine
which hypothesis, if either, is right. Only more hard work by scientists will tell. Until then we have
only speculation, but speculation based in observed evidence.
The origin of birds is one of the great ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Theropods are a diverse group of bipedal saurischian dinosaurs (see cladogram). They include the
largest terrestrial carnivores ever to have walked the earth. Several characters typify a theropod:
hollow bones, three main fingers on the manus (hand), and three main (weight bearing) toes on the pes
(foot). Most theropods had sharp, recurved teeth useful for tearing flesh, and claws were present on
the ends of all of the fingers and toes (Hutchinson 2000). It is thought that birds are descendents of the
group of theropods known as the coelurosaur or maniraptora. (There is debate as to whether these two
groups should be one, so for the sake of this paper, I will refer to them as coelurosaurs.) This group
can be typified by such species as Velociraptor and Deinonychus (Hutchinson 2000).
The other hypothesis is that birds arose much earlier than dinosaurs from a group known to be the
ancestors of theropods: the thecodonts (Dingus and Rowe 1998). Thecodonts were small, agile reptiles
with long tails and short forelimbs, thought to include the ancestral stock of all other archosaurs,
including birds, all dinosaurs, pterosaurs (extinct flying reptiles), and crocodilians (Anonymous 2000).
The Theropod Hypothesis
The theropod hypothesis puts the entry of birds into the evolutionary arena after the line of descent
had continued from thecodonts to the saurischian dinosaurs and their subsequent split into

Yeast is a ingredient commonly used in baking to get bread to rise. It is a eukaryotic single celled

energy is known as cellular respiration which is a chemical reaction. The problem we will be testing
today is does affecting the amount of yeast mixed with sugar and warmed water affect how much gas
is created. We will test this by mixing all of those ingredients together and putting a balloon over the
ingredients to create a seal so we can measure how much gas is being produced by measuring the
circumference of the ballon. The independent variable will be the yeast while the sugar and

How Does L1 Support Literacy In L2

Literacy in L1 can support literacy in L2 in a variety of ways. Many researchers and practitioners in
ESL/Bilingual Education or ESL/BE are aware of research evidence which supports such transfer, but
research is not always applied to practice. According to Roberts (1994), literacy in L1 supports L2 by
being able to transfer the teachings to L2 students. Research shows that knowledge of alphabets and
awareness of phonological can an are strong predictors of literacy development in children being
successful (Ford, K.2005).
Lee Schaller s (1997) quantitative study examined the relationships between ELL students who
demonstrated a level of proficiency compared to ELL students basic reading skills. The study (1997)
tested two hypotheses to check reliability and validity; the hypotheses were examined from the
following: (1) a foundation of language proficiency showed learners with below average levels in L2
proficiency showed little relationship between their L1 and L2 reading ability whereas learners with
above average in L2 proficiency demonstrated a positive relationship between their L1 and L2 reading
abilities.(b) The benefit of L2 proficiency was higher than the benefit of L1 reading ability in
predicting L2 reading ability. In addition, Schaller Lee s (1997) study showed a correlation between
the two hypotheses. For example, when L2 learners obtain previous knowledge from L1 experiences,
their reading skills can potentially improve as information is

Jeff Fort Research Papers
Jeff Fort and the Black P. Stone Nation Chicago, IL is a city that is well known for its high violent
crime rate. Over the years, gangs such as the Black P. Stone Nation played a huge role in Chicago s
crime. Jeff Fort was the founder of the Black P. Stones, and controlled Chicago s south side at a very

Martin Luther King’s (Mlk) “Letter from Birmingham Jail”...
Kyle McCrite Ms. Vaughn English 102 01 14 September 2009 Someone Else s Shoes Martin Luther
King s (MLK) Letter from Birmingham Jail, was written in 1963 as a response to the Eight Alabama
Clergymen s public statement against King s actions in April of that year. Martin Luther King Jr. was
an activist for desegregation of the south in the early 1960s and overcame much adversity to attain
incredible gains on the segregation issue in the United States. King uses effective persuasive appeals
of logical evidence, emotional appeal, and author credibility to win over his audience in The Letter
from Birmingham Jail. MLK s writing shows the effects of segregation in Birmingham with clear
direct language and heart wrenching examples. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
King brings in the question, what is a just and unjust law? A just law is one that promotes good morals
and is followed by both the majority as well as the minority of society. Martin Luther King Jr. defines
an unjust law as: A human law that is not rooted in eternal law and natural law... Any law that
degrades human personality is unjust. All segregation statutes are unjust because segregation distorts
the soul and damages the personality (658). MLK even covers the fact that some laws are just on the
surface, but unjust in how they are enforced. The example of his imprisonment proves this statement.
He was arrested for parading without a permit, but this is an unjust law because it promotes
segregation and denies basic constitutional rights to freedom of speech and assembly (659). He uses
these soulful explanations of just and unjust laws trying to appeal to his readers emotions, though the
notion of just and unjust laws may seem logical to them as well. Just and unjust laws may be
considered logical evidence as well as emotional, but Martin Luther King Jr. uses a few much better
logical examples to convince the audience to see his point of view. His logical examples of moral
wrongdoings include strong emotion and cold harsh facts. Birmingham s history of cruel segregation
is well known and possibly the most segregated city in the United States. There were more unsolved
bombings of Negro homes and churches in

Ways For Nurses For A Family With Chronic Illness
The purpose of this paper is to present ways for nurses to consider when providing care for a family
with chronic illness. Touhy et al., (2012) defines chronic illness as an illness that last more than a year
and continuous medical treatment with limitation to activity of daily living. Chronic illness such as
stroke can present family and individual challenges throughout an individual s life span. Knowledge
about disease pathology and compliance to medical treatment while having family support are
essential for prevention of additional complications and comorbidities. Cancer, cardiovascular disease,
and diabetes are the most common chronic diseases in Canada. According to the (Canadian Nurses
Association [CNA]), each year 163, 000 Canadians die due to cardiovascular disease, cancer, lung
disease, and diabetes while cardiovascular disease is the number one cause of death, disability, and
illness. Therefore, we will discuss the important ways that family nurses utilize their skills in health
promotion, and develop preventative management care plan that are appropriate for family situations.

Frontal Lobe Research Paper
The Brain s Frontal Lobes Actions
The frontal lobe and the following other parts of the frontal lobe section of the brain have many
functions. The frontal lobe part of the brain connects to many other structural parts of the brain,
connected to mini sections of which creates different effects to the lobe. Which are the prefrontal
cortex, orbitofrontal cortex, primary motor cortex, and premotor cortex.
The prefrontal cortex is located within the frontal lobe, but it takes up the majority of the lobe. The
function of the prefrontal cortex is the crucial performance, and skill it provides within the brain
which requires intelligence. The brain is located in many different subjects, such as a human,
mammal, and animal. When discussing the prefrontal cortex, it s known to many that it s larger in
certain primates and it tends to be that way but not in mammals. It is also known to be larger in the
human brain compared to other primates brains. The reason of this is because of the high amount of
the level planning which is correlated by the members that have different species. The majority of the
mammal population operate on most likely the first instinct, which they don t live within complex
social groups. The primates are the ones with the complex with both male and female which the
hierarchies hatches the plans towards each other ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This area is known as the anterior in which includes the medial part in the prefrontal cortex. A human
individual that could possibly run into damaging this area of the brain could potentially have the
normal and/or superior intelligence. Which is usually tested by IQ programs, and studies. The IQ test
could lack some rudimentary concepts of the many manners and the appropriate actions within the
social contexts. Then it becomes possible to lose all risk of the aversion which makes it clear of the
knowledge of the bad consequences.

dred scott
Dred Scott was an enslaved African American man in the United States who unsuccessfully sued for
his freedom and that of his wife and their two daughters in the Dred Scott v. Sanford case of 1857,
popularly known as the Dred Scott Decision. The case was based on the fact that although he and his
wife Harriet Scott were slaves, they had lived with his slave owner, Dr. John Emerson, in states and
territories where slavery was illegal according to both state laws and the Northwest Ordinance of
1787, including Illinois and Minnesota. The United States Supreme Court decided 7 2 against Scott,
finding that neither he nor any other person of African ancestry could claim citizenship in the United
States, and therefore Scott could not bring ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Blow family settled near Huntsville, Alabama, where they unsuccessfully attempted farming. In
1830 the Blow family took Scott with them when they relocated to St. Louis, Missouri. They sold him
to John Emerson, a doctor serving in the United States Army. Marriage and family In 1836 Dred Scott
met a teenaged slave named Harriet Robinson whose slave owner was Major Lawrence Taliaferro, an
army officer from Virginia. Taliaferro allowed Scott and Harriet to marry and transferred his
ownership of Harriet to Dr. Emerson so the couple could be together. In 1838, Harriet gave birth to
their first child, Eliza. In 1840, they had another daughter they named Lizzie. Eventually, they would
also have two sons, but neither survived past infancy. February 1838 in Louisiana, Dr. Emerson
married Eliza Irene Sanford, and the Emerson s and Scotts returned to Missouri in 1840. In 1842,
Emerson left the Army. After he died in the Iowa Territory in 1843, his widow Eliza inherited his
estate, including the Scotts. For three years after Emerson s death, she continued to lease out the
Scotts as hired slaves. In 1846, Scott attempted to purchase his and his family s freedom, but Eliza
Irene Emerson refused, prompting Scott to resort to legal recourse. Dred Scott case Having failed to
purchase his freedom, in 1846 Scott filed legal suit in St Louis Circuit Court through the help of a
local lawyer. Historical details about why Scott sought recourse in the court

Pros And Cons Of Youth Sports
Youth Sports: Are They Good or Bad?
Each year in the United States, more than 36 million school aged children participate in an organized
sport ( Youth Sports Statistics ). Especially over the past few years, many studies have proved or
disproved the idea that sports are beneficial for young kids. Those studies have found that youth sports
have both positive and negative effects on young children, and research shows parents and coaches
have the greatest effect on a child s experience.
Pros of Youth Sports Positive Physical Effects. The most tangible effects on children who play sports
is the effects on children s bodies. According to the author of the book ReSYNC Your Life, Samir
Becic, kids are not as injury prone when involved in athletics because sports help to boost a child s
skeletal and muscular system ( Top 10 Benefits of Youth Sports ). Not only does a healthy, uninjured
child feel better, parents also save money by not having to go to the Emergency Room as often. In
Becic s eyes, fighting obesity by keeping kids moving is another positive influence of sports ( Top 10
Benefits of Youth Sports ). Obesity is an ever growing problem in our society, and obesity leads to
multiple different health issues including heart problems. Becic explains that playing sports as a child
promotes a healthy heart, which ultimately suppresses the chance of heart disease ( Top 10 Benefits of
Youth Sports ). These studies show that by participating in athletics as a child, that child is likely to
see their physical health improve. Positive Psychological Effects. Along with a child s physical health,
research shows that a child s psychological well being will improve through sports as well. An article
on Health Fitness Revolution mentions that playing sports heightens the athlete s morale through the
different ways the athlete helps their team ( Top 10 Benefits of Youth Sports ). More specifically, an
article on Psychology Today says that a girl who participates in sports generally has a more positive
view of her body, even if she doesn t conform to society s very rigid standards of female beauty
(Lindholm). When children feel confident about themselves, they ultimately feel the same about their
whole life as well.

As a research from International Journal of Business and Management about a company stopped its
automatic salary increments says that the employees of the company were not happy with that scheme
and the company tries to give training to them about that bonus scheme. So the company ordered all
the HODs (Head of Departments) to educate their respective departments on the benefits of the new
bonus scheme. After the training those employees get enough education about the new bonus system
and they agreed to the new system. And they were motivated to work harder (Akinlolu Ayodeji
Agboola amp; Rafiu Oyesola Salawu 2011).
Participation can be used to satisfy the workers, as when workers are participated and involved in
decision making process then they will have understanding that the organization needs them and value
their work. If the people actively participate they will be more likely to feel ownership of the change
and will be less likely to resist. When the employees are involved and participated in planning and
implementing the change process will have better understanding towards the changes. Participation of
managers and employees to the change approach will be able to manage resistance to change quicker
(Rosemond Boohene amp; Asamoah Appiah Williams 2012). When employees are involved in the
change effort they are more likely to buy into change rather than resist it. This approach is likely to
lower resistance

Modern Day Slavery Of Thailand
Modern day Slavery in Thailand
Every year, Thailand experiences high rates of human trafficking from its rural parts and from its the
neighboring countries in the Greater Mekong Sub region. Sex trafficking is not just described as the
trade in humans for sexual slavery but also consists of forced marriages or even martyr organ donors.
Trafficking is often seen through the hue of sexual slavery and it is critical to understand the social,
political and economic reasons that contribute to the growth of human trafficking in Thailand. Since
the Vietnam War, sex trafficking has been on a constant rise due to foreign troops being the very first
clients to sex workers, there has been a perception of Thailand as a sought of after destination for ...
Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Hence the question that arises is that despite all of this, why does sex trafficking endure? The reason is
because sex trafficking has slowly become a part of Thailand s cultural heritage, so much so that it s
religious, economic and political background has become a viable reference point.
Religious norms also play an important part in constructing the social status of women in Thailand.
Communities such as the ethnic Akha that is predominantly a Buddhist community, accredits in the
strict readings on the basic truths of Karma. Seabrook further elaborates that women are inherently
impure and carnal according to various undeniable Buddhist sects and these communities relate the
involvement of women in sex trade as a consequence of their karma, their demerit in a former life. In
this way, men can express lust without demerit because it is caused by women (qtd. in Mah, 80). This
specific reading of Buddhist sects exempts men from any sins when associated with human
trafficking. Moreover, the spiritual beliefs associated with the social status of the women grants the
same status to be cemented into a culture. Religious norms then become a principal factor in
determining the cultural values of a community, especially in rural areas. Hence, it creates a feedback
loop of religious values that allows men to consume prostitution without fear of wrongdoings

Teenage Suicide Is Becoming Increasingly More Common
A young person dying for any reason is a tragedy, so when a teenager takes his or her own life due to
frustrations, hopelessness, or loss of self worth, it is completely devastating. Young people today are
having to grow up in a world with high stress levels, confusion, discouragement, and pain; sometimes
it is just too hard for them to handle. Perhaps it is not surprising that teenage suicide is becoming
increasingly more common. Suicide has become the third leading causing of death in adolescents
today. All around the world teenagers are attempting to take, or successfully taking, their own lives for
many reasons, including forms of content on the Internet. A story published in The Ledger written by
Stephanie Allie demonstrates how this, unfortunately, happened to be true for 12 year old, Rebecca
Sedwick. On the morning of September 9th, 2013, instead of getting on the school bus, Rebecca
walked to an abandoned cement plant. The 12 year old climbed to the top of a silo and jumped off,
killing herself instantly. Later, Rebecca s mother, Traci, told police that her daughter had been bullied
by a group of middle school girls. Further investigation showed that for over a year, Rebecca received
hateful text messages and Facebook posts from these girls, harassing, taunting, and humiliating her.
Some of the messages went as far as telling Rebecca to endure bodily harm, and that she did not
deserve to live. The girls treated Rebecca horribly all because she started dating someone

Ethnographic Study Of Dance
Professional ballet dancer s perspective of their own senses while dancing on daily practice of

Ethnographic method was used in important social cultural studies by LoĂŻc Wacquant (1998)

Comparing Voltaire s Candide And Beccaria

Voltaire attacks this optimist belief.
He was a deist, a strong proponent of religious freedom, and a critic of tyrannical governments.
Candide became part of his large, diverse body of philosophical, political and artistic works
expressing these views.
As Voltaire himself described it, the purpose of Candide was to bring amusement to a small number of
men of wit .[2] The author achieves this goal by combining his sharp wit with a fun parody of the
classic adventure romance plot. Candide is confronted with horrible events described in painstaking
detail so often that it becomes humorous.Candide is primarily, as described by Voltaire s biographer
Ian Davidson, short, light, rapid and humorous .[9][58]
Voltaire mocks the Jesuit order of the Roman Catholic Church. [The Jesuits] are masters of

  • 3. The Major Causes Of Globalization The reshaping of countries in the latter half of the twentieth century due to nationalist endeavours has resulted in a commonality across a wider spectrum. The wider spectrum is a globalised community that is able to interact and therefore increase the market (if you like) of foreign fighters. Urri defines globalisation as the increased density of international and global interactions, compared with such interactions at the local or national level . The CIAs forecast in 2000 predicted some of the major affects of globalisation that is present today predicting Globalisation s evolution will be rocky, marked by chronic financial volatility a widening economic divide where regions, countries, and groups feeling left behind face deepening economic stagnation, political instability, and cultural alienation. This will foster political, ethnic, ideological, and religious extremism, along with the violence that often accompanies it. As Cronin argues the trend of globalisation is seen as westernisation, secularism, democratisation, consumerism, and the growth of market capitalism, threatens what is perceived as the fundamental elements of certain societies, not to mention the uneven distributions of wealth as a result. The gap between social groups is prime territory for foreign fighters to step into to promote the common feelings and experience of the ill effects of globalisation. The frustrations of globalisation are gathered through global interactions and are able to gain momentum in what Malet describes as transnational communities. As Malet points out citing Tarrow, transnational social movements have grown in the latter half of the twenty first century from one hundred in the 1950s to one thousand in 2003. This confirms that people now see themselves more as a part of a transnational community rather than a local one. Transnational communities are formed by frustrated individuals and groups who see themselves marginalised due to the macro changes initiated by increased global interactions. Access to global markets and communications have further perpetuated the sustainability of transitional organisations, strengthening these communities. Taken together with All Souls Day, which falls on 2 November, it is a time assigned in the Christian calendar for honoring the saints and newly departed. 1. The name All Hallow Even has evolved over time, it eventually became Hallowe en, and then to what we know the holiday now as: Halloween. 2. • 5. Casey At Bat Analysis In the poem Casey at Bat and story David and Goliath, a comparison of David and Casey shows differences and similarities. Here is how they are both alike. Casey and David are both alike because they both had a battle and they felt like they were going to win that battle. I know this because in the articles it said that the people knew that Casey was going to hit the ball and if the people believe that means that Casey would believe. It also said in one of the articles that David felt like he was going to win because he had God on his side. If one struck out and the other killed a giant that means that one lost their battle and the other didn t. Another way I think they are different is because Casey boasted and David did not. In Casey up to bat it said that Casey said that pitch isn t my style. In David and Goliath it said that David said that he was going to win because God was on his side. This proves that Casey boasted and David did not because if you watch something go by you think that it s not good enough then that is boasting because not everything is going to be perfect. David did not boast because he had a reason to think that he was going to win and he didn t act like he was all that. The last reason why I think they are different is because David was judged in a bad way and Casey was judged in a good way. In David and Goliath it said that David s brothers called him a brat. Casey was judged in a good way because in Casey up to bat it said that everyone thought that he was going to hit. If you get called a brat that is offensive so that would be a bad judgement. • 6. Street Art And Graffiti Street art and graffiti has grown increasingly popular worldwide in the last few decades. This is because street artists are given the opportunity to showcase their ideas and opinions freely, and do not allow themselves to be limited by regulations of the law or public opinion. Street artists can express the unpopular opinion without worry that they will be punished for it, as these artists often work anonymously. According to Michael DeNotto from St. Mary s University of Minnesota, street art allows the artist to reject established standards, encourage experimentation, and draw from popular culture and advertising (Street Art and Graffiti, 1). They are given the canvas of public property such as sidewalks and building walls to create art pieces that can be viewed by potentially anyone. However, the fact that the audience for street art is so vast can also lead to disagreements about the content or location of the art, and difference in opinion between the artist and the viewers. Street art can be used as a method of openly expressing opinions on controversial matters, such as war, laws, public figures, social issues, and more. In Street Art San Francisco by Annice Jacoby, there are several art pieces depicting anguish and disapproval. On page 68, Crooks responded to Lennie s sudden entrance, You go on get outta my room. I ain t wanted in the bunkhouse, and you ain t wanted in my room. Earlier chapters describe how he was not allowed to sleep in the bunkhouse with everyone else and had to be separated in a room by himself. Moreover, it is a rare occasion does people ever visit him, on the exception for Slim. The obvious interpretation would be the connection it holds to the racism that existed at the time, but I perceived a deeper connection behind his response. Although Crooks is a diligent and hardworking stable buck, he experiences loneliness from unequal treatment by others. Thus, his impetuous response to Lennie came from the hardships he went through for being the only African American on the ranch. To some extent, people s comments and actions reflect ... • 11. A Simplified Approach On Dynamic Response A Simplified Approach on Dynamic Response of Tall Buildings due to Wind loads Abstract: In this paper, a simplified approach on dynamic response of tall buildings due to turbulent wind load is proposed to get a proper modification factor used in equivalent static wind load method. The approach undertakes the investigation of turbulent wind loads on high rise buildings in one of the frequency domain analysis to get Peak Dynamic Response (PDR). This simplified method is developed by using the Power Spectral Density Analysis in Sap 2000. The turbulent wind spectrum, aerodynamic admittance and vertical coherence for buffeting wind loading are estimated using Kaimal spectrum, empirical relationship proposed by Vickery and Spatial Coherence of Davenport . The building models conditions are documented as a data bank. Then, the proposed design method is introduced by using design data bank. Then, the method is analyzed by the case studies with respect to various wind speed and height of storeys. By introducing this proposed method at the initial stage of analysis and design, less controlled parameters in analysis and computational effort in specified regions than standard procedures can be obtained. Montaigne even goes as far as to call imagination the culprit for many people falling ill, as he says that the reason some people become sick is that their imaginations concoct how bad they could feel, and their bodies simple follow suit. He states that #8220; #8230;the mind must generally be prepared in advance. #8221;(pg.41) in order for the body to feel a certain way. John Donne #8217;s general viewpoint on the relationship between the mind and the health of the body differs greatly from Montaigne #8217;s. Donne #8217;s theory is simply that the path to a healthy body is an imagination. He claims that the imagination is the machine responsible for creating the ideas that make the body feel good. Many metals need to be bent at precise angles but still need to be extremely strong. Alloy combinations have changed throughout the evolution of the sport. The text states One of the first widely used alloys was bronze (copper and tin); followed by brass (copper and zinc). The benefits of an alloy over a pure metal can include increased tensile strength, and shear strength ( harberger). We are introduced to three major types of movement, Sportive movement, symbolic movement, and supportive movement. At the basis of all three movements they are very similar although they highlight different attributes of an athlete or a person living an everyday lifestyle. Sportive movement is identified as a skill related physical activity, meaning any competitive activity that has a clear winner or loser. Sportive movement also has the implication that one person can be superior to another in that sport because, their skill level is significantly higher than other teammates. An example would be a varsity football athlete and a college football athlete. What can make the college player superior than a varsity player is that his muscle mass has a higher density, making the hits have a greater force than that of a varsity player. Another possibility that could make the college athlete s performance be superior is the skill level at which they train at. Symbolic movement refers to physical activity that expresses thoughts and feelings through the body; the main emphasis being physical expressiveness (Wallace 2013). This type of movement is seen in the art division, such as dance, music, poetry, literature. Zynga s share price fell by 5 percent on the first day of trading and by mid May was still 14.4 percent below the IPO price. Intrinsic value refers to the value of a company, stock, currency or product determined through fundamental analysis without reference to its market value. It is ordinarily calculated by summing the discounted future income generated by the asset to obtain the present value. In this case, Facebook s intrinsic value is its estimate value/share from Discounted Cash Flow analysis. As it is showed in Exhibit 3, Facebook s estimated value/share is $32.44 using Discounted Cash Flow analysis. The price from the price talk is $38, which was raised from around $28 to $35 to $34 to $38 per share because of the overwhelming demand from investors. And the price talk is 17% higher than the intrinsic value. Based on our one way sensitivity analysis of seven variables as it is showed in Exhibit 4, which are revenue growth rate, terminal growth rate, pre tax operating margin, increase in Capex, increase in NWC, cost of capital and marginal tax rate, we conclude that cost of capital and pre tax operating margin are the two most sensitive variables from our calculation of the slope rate R. • 22. The Potential for Future Crop Loss Essay The Potential for Future Crop Loss On the subject of potential crop loss there are several variables, which influence drought and plant disease resulting in a loss of crops. The first variable is that of drought. Drought is a result of shifting weather patterns, which changes the amount of precipitation an area receives. There are three major causes of drought, deficient and unfavorably distributed precipitation, excess heat and warm winds (Nemanishen, 1998, p.35). Historically the grasslands of North America have had a highly varied climate with years of drought immediately followed by years of sufficient precipitation. For example, in the area of the Palliser Triangle in the grasslands of Canada, wheat crop loss has been seen ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Krick identified twelve major North American weather patters which paved the way for long term weather forecasts that are now used universally in farming and crop production (Nemanishen, 1998, p.27). It is understood that migratory cold blows bring moisture to the Great Plains and grasslands it is important to track these cold blows in order to identify wet and drought seasons. Also understood is the effect humans have on the weather patterns. At least two of the past three major droughts have coincided with changes in the general circulation of the atmosphere over the northern hemisphere (Borchert, 1971, p.7). It is undeniable that human use of land has modified atmospheric moisture patterns. Also effecting moisture patterns is solar radiation. For example, in years with high volcanic activity solar radiation was lower because the atmosphere was not as transparent. Higher solar radiation results in less precipitation due to excess heat resulting in drought (Nemanishen, 1998, p.36). It is difficult to deny that drought occurs rhythmically, however, on account of the great randomness of weather we are only able to forecast when the next drought may be and gauge its severity depending on what is known about the previous years. Another variable resulting in crop loss is that of plant disease, and more specifically late blight. Late blight is caused by the plant pathogen Phytophthora infestans ... The trick to producing a positive outcome is often how the different aspects are brought together. Now consider oil and water, these two substance are not often considered a good combination. The two main groups are the dominant or the majority, and the other is subordinate or the minority. It is also purposed as highlighted by Schaefer (2011) that There are four types of minority or subordinate groups. All four, except where noted, have the five properties previously outlined. The four criteria for classifying minority groups are race, ethnicity, religion, and gender. (Schaefer, R. T. 2011, p. 7). In the two text books there is a definite effort to try to bring order to cultural diversity by dividing the population into groups. This approach, although logically understandable and useful, needs to consider that these groups are made up by individual people, and all people are unique. With what ethnic, cultural, or other groups do you identify? When I considering the groups that I identify with there are a number of primary groups that come to mind family and friends, religious beliefs, American, work, student, male, and recreational activates. With these primary groups in mind there are certainly subgroups that fall under them. In terms what this means to me and who I am, these category s truly part of my day to day life. In February of 2004, San Francisco Mayor Gavin Newsom ordered county officials to issue marriage licenses to same sex couples, and the first same sex couple to get married there was Phyllis Lyon and Del Martin. Their marriage did not last long, though, due to the California Supreme Court voiding the Mayor s actions on August 12, 2004, as given in the book called Gay Rights, created by Peggy J. Parks. In the late 1900 s, there were laws that were recently struck down that made same sex activity illegal. Some laws were called the Sodomy Laws, which means any sexual activity that goes against nature, were struck down as well with these other laws. In this paper, I will speak about what I would ve learned about statistics if I had an instructor that was helpful and fostered the spread of education. Statistics is making sense of common data and knowing when you use data analysis techniques, and formulas while making connections between them. Statistics enables the collection, analysis, interpretation, presentation, and organization of data. According to David Hand (2016), One good working definition of statistics might be that it is the technology of extracting meaning from data (p. 2). There are several elements that are instrumental in the study statistics that will be discussed in this paper that include by are not limited to descriptive statistics, inferential statistics, hypothesis development and testing, selection of appropriate statistical tests and evaluating statistical results. DESCRIPTIVE STATISTICS Descriptive statistics helps describe, show or summarize data in a meaningful way such that, for example, patterns might emerge from the data. It implies a simple quantitative summary of a dataset that has been collected, and aids statisticians and students in understanding experiments or a data set in detail and tells about the required details that help put the data in perspective. • 31. The Development Of Carbon Fibre The Development of Carbon Fibre in Formula 1. What is carbon fibre? Carbon fibre is an extremely strong material that is also super lightweight. The material has many uses in engineering and design, and this case study will discuss the advantages and disadvantages. McLaren first introduced carbon fibre into chassis construction of the MP4 in 1981. Apart from the cars engine, wheel rims and gearbox, all twenty two Formula 1 cars that competed in the 2014 season bodies, are made of carbon fibre. [1] Properties of Carbon fibre. Design technicians and engineers love to use carbon fibre in manufacturing as it has many desirable properties. First of all is its strength. Carbon fibre is five times stronger than steel and is twice as stiff [2]. The strands of carbon are lined up parallel to each other when producing a sheet. For maximum results in strength, the fibres must be parallel with the forces that will act upon that element, this is to make sure it can withstand the forces going through the object when in use. Carbon fibre is also very lightweight. This property is a huge advantage in car production. By using carbon fibre instead of steel in building car components reduces the weight of the car by 60% [2]. In turn, this reduction in weight cuts the car s fuel consumption by 30% and reduces greenhouse gases and other emissions by 15%[2]. Below shows a detailed table of the strength to weight ratio of carbon fibre. Carbon fibre also shows that it is a leading 21st ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Both hypotheses pose many interesting and insightful ideas based on information obtained from the fossil record. Several characters typify a theropod: hollow bones, three main fingers on the manus (hand), and three main (weight bearing) toes on the pes (foot). Most theropods had sharp, recurved teeth useful for tearing flesh, and claws were present on the ends of all of the fingers and toes (Hutchinson 2000). It is thought that birds are descendents of the group of theropods known as the coelurosaur or maniraptora. (There is debate as to whether these two groups should be one, so for the sake of this paper, I will refer to them as coelurosaurs.) This group can be typified by such species as Velociraptor and Deinonychus (Hutchinson 2000). The other hypothesis is that birds arose much earlier than dinosaurs from a group known to be the ancestors of theropods: the thecodonts (Dingus and Rowe 1998). Thecodonts were small, agile reptiles with long tails and short forelimbs, thought to include the ancestral stock of all other archosaurs, including birds, all dinosaurs, pterosaurs (extinct flying reptiles), and crocodilians (Anonymous 2000). The frontal lobe part of the brain connects to many other structural parts of the brain, connected to mini sections of which creates different effects to the lobe. Which are the prefrontal cortex, orbitofrontal cortex, primary motor cortex, and premotor cortex. The prefrontal cortex is located within the frontal lobe, but it takes up the majority of the lobe. The function of the prefrontal cortex is the crucial performance, and skill it provides within the brain which requires intelligence. The brain is located in many different subjects, such as a human, mammal, and animal. When discussing the prefrontal cortex, it s known to many that it s larger in certain primates and it tends to be that way but not in mammals. It is also known to be larger in the human brain compared to other primates brains. The reason of this is because of the high amount of the level planning which is correlated by the members that have different species. The majority of the mammal population operate on most likely the first instinct, which they don t live within complex social groups. The reason is because sex trafficking has slowly become a part of Thailand s cultural heritage, so much so that it s religious, economic and political background has become a viable reference point. Religious norms also play an important part in constructing the social status of women in Thailand. Communities such as the ethnic Akha that is predominantly a Buddhist community, accredits in the strict readings on the basic truths of Karma. Seabrook further elaborates that women are inherently impure and carnal according to various undeniable Buddhist sects and these communities relate the involvement of women in sex trade as a consequence of their karma, their demerit in a former life. In this way, men can express lust without demerit because it is caused by women (qtd. in Mah, 80). This specific reading of Buddhist sects exempts men from any sins when associated with human trafficking. Moreover, the spiritual beliefs associated with the social status of the women grants the same status to be cemented into a culture. Religious norms then become a principal factor in determining the cultural values of a community, especially in rural areas.
