Poland Essay
I write hoping to give voice to the condition of Poland and her people to our representatives. In this
moment of terror, we need the leadership and guidance of our government, now more than ever to
give our countrymen comfort and strength in our hour of need. Our government in London is there to
represent our people to the global community, and in this moment, we desperately need your help.
There needs to be a record of our suffering. The last two years have brought great change to our
nation. Once again, the Soviets and Nazis have divided Poland into their own halves, and in the west,
we are under Nazi occupation.
Unfortunately, the last two years were a series of swift and confusing events. Our allies Britain and
France have forsaken ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This has made them sloppy in who they choose for filling their quotas and it appears that the Jews are
the easiest to deport given they are living in guarded ghettos. Ethnic cleansing The deportation
reinforces the Nazi s view of us as animals, rather, then humans. Our lives hold no value to the Nazis,
we are Polish swine not worthy of life. But I believe that with our huge population, neither the concept
of the Polish State nor the Jews will be eliminated by the Nazi s heartless actions. If those with
influence outside our nation could use their voice to testify to the suffering for every Polish citizen.
Another reason for the deportations of Poles is the resistance movement that has formed. The spirit of
the January Uprising has not left our people, and there has formed a resistance movement. The Nazis
fear the willingness of Poles to fight for their homeland. Yet, they seemed to have devised a plan to
combat and destroy our fighting spirit. They have started a war against the clergy and intelligentsia
believing that we are the leadership, and the destruction of the leadership class will allow for control
of the nation. To destroy the leadership, will let our nation be open those who are not a thin Germanic
layer, [with an] underneath [of] frightful material, but ethnic Germans, in need of a homeland.
Minister, your people are dying and forced from their homes for the sole crime

Yin and Yang
YIN AND YANG
YIN AND YANG
I. THE YIN YANG THEORY
Ancient Chinese people were greatly interested in the relationships and patterns that occurred in
nature. Instead of studying isolated things, they viewed the world as a harmonious and holistic entity.
In their eyes, no single being or form could exist unless it was seen in relation to its surrounding
environment. By simplifying these relationships, they tried to explain complicated phenomena in the
universe.
1. What is the Yin Yang Theory?
Yin yang theory is a kind of logic, which views things in relation to its whole. The theory is based on
two basic components: yin and yang, which are neither materials nor energy. They combine in a
complementary manner and form a method for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
They depend on each other for definition and can only be measured by comparing themselves to each
other. For example, heat ceases to exist (yang aspect) if there is no such thing as cold (yin aspect).
Without an understanding of hot and cold, there would only be one temperature. Height (yang aspect)
cannot be measured if there is not a low reference point (yin aspect); otherwise, everything would be
at one level. In addition, the comparisons between yin and yang are relative to the objects being
compared. For example, when soup is first cooked it is hot but after it a while it becomes cold, but the
hot cold distinction is relative to a cold an ice cube and boiling water.
According to the yin yang theory, our physical body is closely related to its physiological functions.
The activity (yang) of our body is nourished by its physical form (yin), and the physical form is
created and maintained by the body s activity. They rely on each other to achieve a balanced state of
health.

3. Yin and Yang change and grow in a cyclic and balanced manner.
Yin and yang achieve a state of balance by mutual control and inhibition. The balance is neither static
nor absolute, but is maintained within certain limits. At certain times, yin expands while yang
diminishes. At other times, the opposite is true. The change of seasons illustrates this concept. From
winter through spring and summer, the weather changes from cold to hot. This is a process where yang
(heat) grows

Exporting Anti-Gay Ideology
Exporting Ideology A series of events have been set in motion globally to thwart the progress of one
of the most consequential cultural shifts in human history. The gay rights movement, particularly in
the Western World, has made progress at an exponential rate and has remained a contentious source of
argument in the contemporary social and political landscape. Although significant strides have been
made, right wing religious groups have taken ideologically charged action both legislatively and
rhetorically. In a collection of Eastern European and African countries, anti gay legislation and
sentiment has garnered support from regional governmental factions and right wing religious
coalitions. The force driving these anti gay initiatives are not at the behest of the citizenry of each
respective region, but by American forces that until recently have been working in the shadows in
their proxy war against the gay rights movement. American evangelical groups have been operating
with collaborators abroad in order to preserve their notion of natural and traditional values. Most
notably, a series of anti gay propaganda and anti gay adoption laws have been enacted in Russia by
national legislators and American activists. The American right wing evangelical coalition has had
tremendous influence on the Russian anti gay movement legislatively and politically over the course
of the last decade. The goals of these American activists have not spawned out of the ether, but are
eerily

The Environment And Atmospheric Impacts On Earth s...
Looking off into the distance, stacks are jutting high into the sky. Even higher than those stacks, are
the plumes that are being ejected from them. These plumes are filled with chemicals commonly
known in the global climate world as emissions; these emissions deplete the ozone and are causing
significant impacts on Earth s ecological environment. Everyone is guilty of creating and releasing
emissions. While individuals do have an impact, they do not have as large of an impact on the
environment as power plants. Power plants are usually running 24 hours a day, seven days a week; this
means they are producing emissions just as much. Power plants need to start finding a way to utilize
sustainable energy sources because eventually, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In 1993, a fourth unit was added; in addition to burning coal and natural gas, it can also burn a small
amount of biofuel. Finally, in 2006, the last two units were added. The fifth unit is a steam
turbine/generator and the sixth unit is a natural gas combustion turbine and companion waster
heat/heat recovery steam generator ( History n.d.).
Producing approximately 100 megawatts per hour, this plant needs an exorbitant amount of fuel
source to provide this energy ( Generating Power n.d.). Since 1965, the fuel source for this power
plant has largely been coal. MSU promotes itself as a green campus, and coal emits a large amounts of
emissions; therefore, there has been a shift away from coal. Also, with the new EPA regulations, it
would have cost more money to redesign the units to meet these standards burning coal than it would
to switch to natural gas ( MSU to Stop 2015). This is why by the end of 2016, MSU will be switching
to natural gas as the main fuel source for this power plant. Instead of coal being the main fuel source,
it will now be natural gas; using natural gas in place of coal will reduce emissions by approximately
50 percent (Pacala 2004, 969). This is a big step towards MSU s goals of being a green campus and
using sustainable energy. However, while natural gas has lower emissions, it does cost more than coal.
In September of 2015, Powder River Basin Coal cost $537/MWh (megawatt hour) and Natural Gas

Descriptive Essay On Being A Waitress
It s always nice to go out to eat, order a nice meal that you do not have to cook and be served
everything you want. When going out to eat, have you ever thought about the person that is serving
you food, getting you drinks, and making sure you have a pleasant experience at the restaurant of your
choice? That person is a server. He or she is a waiter or waitress. I ve gone out to eat a lot, and I ve
always been a little curious what is like to be the person serving the food and not eating it. I chose to
research this subculture because I was so curious about it. I have some friends that wait tables, but I
hadn t really thought about how being a waitress involves so many things aside from serving food.
Waitressing is more about handling all different types of people, and learning to multitask successfully
than just serving food. When I go out to eat, I usually only notice if the waitress or waiter is nice to me
and my party. I make sure that all of the food and drinks come out the way we ordered them, and I
also pay attention to how the food tastes. When I started my research and observation for this
ethnography, I started to pay more attention the server when I was eating at restaurants. I started to
notice how many tables the server waited on, I noticed how many times he or she had to take food
back to the kitchen because someone thought it was wrong or not cooked right, and I also noticed how
unhappy he or she was when they left a certain table. I have also

Optometrist Application Essay Examples
Optometry is a profession, which requires several skills which are used throughout ones career. An
example of such a skill needed by an optometrist, is the ability to put patients at ease swiftly yet
caringly. It is one of the few careers, which can care for a person from the cradle to the grave. There is
constant one on one interaction involved with people and this requires great communication skills.
I have had the opportunity to spend two weeks at an opticians. This consisted of helping on the main
reception desk and therefore dealing with all sorts of matters with the patients. I was lucky enough to
sit in with the optometrist in some of his appointments and observed how he did his work. During this
time, I was introduced to many of the pieces of equipment ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
During my Sixth Form, I have attended a number of courses. In March, I participated in a Leadership
weekend where we were taken to unfamiliar surroundings and were allocated into groups of people
whom we had never met before. This was very challenging, as I had to quickly learn to work as a team
member with people I did not know. The weekend was full of mental and physical challenges in which
it was adamant that we were able to work together constructively as a team to succeed in all the tasks.
During this leadership weekend, I acquired skills that enabled me to hold positions of responsibility.
For example,
I was in charge of the maps and equipment and was nominated leader for some of the activities. I think
that the skills that I did learn will prove a valuable asset to my possible career in optometry as I am
more confident and comfortable with new people, which is an adamant skill. As an optometrist this is
very important as it is a necessity to be able to put people at ease.
I have also recently attended a Challenge of Management course. All of the people were allocated into
random groups. To succeed in the challenge, teamwork was vital and we won the market, making a

Abstinence-Only vs. Comprehensive Sex Education Essay
Since the HIV/AIDS epidemic began in the U.S. in the early 1980s the issue of sex education for
American youth has had the attention of the nation. There are about 400,000 teen births every year in
the U.S, with about 9 billion in associated public costs. STI contraction in general, as well as teen
pregnancy, have put the subject even more so on the forefront of the nation s leading issues. The
approach and method for proper and effective sex education has been hotly debated. Some believe that
teaching abstinence only until marriage is the best method while others believe that a more
comprehensive approach, which includes abstinence promotion as well as contraceptive information,
is necessary. Abstinence only program curriculums disregard ... Show more content on

Other supporters think that sex education should not deviate from other teachings of other health
curricula such as drunk driving, tobacco use, drug use, alcohol consumption, gun use, fighting; all
things which are taught to just not do (Collins, Alagira, and Summers 12 13). They believe that it is
the responsibility of a public institution which serves kids to teach them risk avoidance rather than
harm reduction ( WebMD: Better Information. Better Health ). Many advocates for abstinence only
education believe that its message is strongly intertwined with traditional values and religious faith;
both of which they claim to have measurable influence in preventing teens from having sex (Collins,
Alagira, and Summers 12 13). Christian conservative women believe that comprehensive sex
education would encourage sexual activity and lesbianism, as well as undercut marriage and create
social decay (Fields 24). Proponents for abstinence only education believe that the abstinence only
message has contributed to the decline of adolescent sexual activity as well as negative related
outcomes. In the 1990s there was a decrease in adolescent pregnancy, birth and abortion rates. These
proponents attribute these declining statistics to the abstinence only message and claim that the
declines cannot be accredited to increased

Divine Law And Civil Law In SophoclesAntigone
Antigone, daughter and sister of Oedipus, believes to live a fated life. When her brother Polyneices is
denied a burial by the King of Thebes, Creon, Antigone gets in trouble for following the laws of the
gods. Her choices get her sent away and eventually lead to her death. In Sophocles play, Antigone, the
characters show clashes between divine law and civil law, with the divine law having a bigger impact
in the play.
Characters who follow civil law tend to be afraid of punishment by the government leaders. As Ismene
states, You just said the new law forbids it. (Sophocles Pro.32), she wants to avoid any type of
negative encounter with Creon or the government. She does not want herself, or Antigone, to get in
trouble. This was Ismene s way of showing her belief in civil law. By her fearing the punishment she
may face if she breaks the laws, she chooses not to do what is right by the gods. In her denial of divine
law, she believes that it is Polyneices fault that he is forbidden a burial. In her opinion, Polyneices
chose to become a traitor to the city of Thebes, therefore Ismene will not put her own freedom in
jeopardy over his mistakes. Those who follow civil law have a greater respect and appreciation for
civil leaders and local governments than the gods. Creon, being a leader, would rather have all his
citizens follow the laws he puts in place in order to create a less rebellious society. If the people of
Thebes all a bigger faith in divine law, the city would fall to

Wonder Sociological Concepts
Wonder One of my favorite movies is Wonder by R.J. Palacio. Wonder is based off of the inspiration
to never judge anyone by their appearance, to stand up for yourself and to not give into bullying. The
main character, Auggie Pullman, is a smart 10 year old boy with a facial deformity, who experiences
the first time going to a public school. The first important value in Wonder is to never judge anyone by
their appearance. Auggie s schedule in the past 10 years, consisted of being homeschooled by his
mom, Isabel. Auggie conquered the survival of a car accident, which made Auggie encounter
numerous surgeries to correct his face. His surgeries concluded the way he looked. His left eye tugs

Bullying often leaves kids feeling helpless, vulnerable, and confused. Consequently, when kids are
bullies they are often shocked by bullying that they are not sure what to do (Gordon, n.d.). Society,
unfortunately, has become more focused on the bullies rather than the victims. Judging someone by
their looks is NOT okay. How can you judge someone when you do not even know the person? It is
from my personal experience, that people are nicer to the rich or middle class whereas others frown
upon poor people. Many people make the generalization that poor people take advantage of the state
benefits that are offered, which is not true. Beauty is not in the face; beauty is a light in the heart.
There is not a single profile of a young person involved in bullying. Youth who bully can be either will
connected socially and may be bullied by others as well. Similarly, those who are bullied sometimes
bully others. Solutions to bullying are not simple. Bullying Prevention approaches that show the most
promise confront the problem from many angles (Government, n.d.). Take the time to get to know
someone before you judge or bully them. Every single person is subject to life, not suicide. Each of us
are special in our own ways to express to the

The For Your Child s Winter Essay
You can t miss the nip in the air, and as the year draws to an end, the mercury is going to dip even
further. This also means it s time to pull out all those colourful woollies that have been languishing in
the cupboard, and maybe buy some new ones to stay in sync with the season s trends. Gone are the
days when the over sized woolens came in monotonous and boring winter shades. Now, you can
splurge on colours and watch your child radiate the brightness. Red is big for girls and boys, and the
metallics that lit up the runways in the fall are also gracing kids winter lines.
When choosing woolens for your child, practicality is of utmost importance. But don t overlook the
fashion angle. Kids, these days, are extremely conscious about what they wear. Here are a few winter
must haves for your child.
1. Just jackets
Your child s winter wardrobe would be incomplete without a warm and colourful jacket. Depending
on where you are stationed, you can opt for a quilt lined jacket, a football jacket, a classic denim one
or the contemporary ones that look more like coats. Cotton, Light and medium poly fill jackets are in
fashion these days, with sweat jackets ruling the fashion scene. Jackets, not only provide ample
warmth, but when zipped right up, take care of the entire upper torso without you having to worry
much. Little girls can add a few frills and flowers to their jackets without thinking twice. And if it s
not too cold, they can even go for chic shrugs.

The Boxer Rebellion Essay
Throughout the nineteenth century China s emperors watched as foreign powers began to encroach
closer and closer upon their land. Time after time, China was forced to make embarrassing
concessions. Foreign militaries more modernly armed would constantly defeat the imperial armies. As
the dawn of a new century was about to begin, Empress Tsu Hsi of the Ch ing Dynasty searched for a
way of ridding her empire of the foreign invaders. Germany, Great Britain, France, Italy, Japan, and
Russia all claimed sole trading points to their selected spheres of influence. Some of these countries
even claimed that the territory that lay within their spheres was their own. With the United States
recent acquisition of the Philippines, they too were ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Should the strong enemies become aggressive and press us to consent to things we can never accept,
we have no alternative but to rely upon the justice of our cause. If our hundreds of millions of
inhabitants would prove their loyalty to their emperor and love their country, what is there to fear from
any invader? Let us not think about making peace. (Wu Yang 48) In the northernmost Shandong
province, few people were thinking about making peace. A secret society, known as the Fists of
Righteous Harmony, attracted thousands of recruits. Outsiders called members of this society Boxers
because they practiced martial arts. The Boxers also believed they had magical powers and could not
be harmed. Their cause, at first was to overthrow the imperial Ch ing government and expel all the
foreign devils. The Boxers changed direction when they received support of Qing officials and a crafty
Empress. The Boxers new slogan would become. Support the Ch ing destroy the foreigner! (Yale 212)
Without restraining leadership or organization the Boxers began in early 1900 to raid outposts and
symbols of western influence, including missions and foreign missionaries. The Boxers employed
brutal attacks during their raids, including hacking men and women with swords, burning them alive
and sometimes dragged and tortured through howling mobs before their execution. Nervous foreign
ministers demanded Empress Hsi gain control of this murderous society. She ensured

Television and Media Violence
Is Aggressive Behavior Linked to Television Violence?
According the Centerwall (1992), the average child aged 2 5 in 1990 watched 27 hours of
television per day, or almost 4 hours per day. When much of what is on television, including
cartoons and television shows targeted at children, contains violence, it becomes important to
know whether watching televised violence can lead to or increase aggressive behavior. Social
learning theory tells us that children model their behavior after those they see. It is reasonable,
then, to infer that watching violence on television will lead to behaving violently, due to the
modeling effect. The present study reviews some relevant prior research, and then investigates ...

Centerwall found that in between 1945 and 1975, the homicide rate in the US increased by
93%, while in Canada, the homicide rate increased by 92% after the introduction of television. In
South Africa, however, the homicide rate decreased by 7%. In case we might think that South
Africa is just a less violent country than the US or Canada, Centerwall included the homicide rates
for the three countries in 1987. In the US and Canada, no significant changes were noted,

showing that the homicide rate had reached a plateau, at a rate that was nearly twice the pre

Cochlear Implants Case Study
When faced with having to make a major decision for their children, parents are often thrown into a
difficult and perplexing situation. These decisions become even more difficult for the parents when the
decision involves putting their children through something they cannot relate to. This is the case when
parents are required to decide whether to have cochlear implant surgery performed on their deaf child.
The decision of whether to go through with this procedure, which, when successful, provides a deaf
individual with the ability to hear, puts parents in a position to make an epistemically and personally
transformative decision for their child. Ultimately, the decision comes down to the experiences and
preferences of the parents; whether ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Paul begins her exploration into this transformative choice by examining the stances of two different
groups regarding this decision: members of the Deaf community, and the remainder of the general
population. According to Paul, when considering the necessity of having cochlear implant surgery
performed on their children, major ideological differences between the two groups became quite
apparent: While large medical corporations, experts in the medical community, and some members of
the hearing population strongly supported the use of cochlear implants, especially in children, many
members of the Deaf community resisted mass implantation (Paul 57). From the perspective of a
hearing individual, this preference may seem baffling. What would prevent someone from wanting
their child to have all the advantages of life, including the ability to use all their senses to their fullest
potential? This way of thinking, however, only gives insight into how humans make decisions; that is,
subjectively based on our own personal values and experiences. In the eyes of Deaf parents (with a
capital D, implying that they are members of a community of non hearing, fully capable people,
instead of a group of disabled individuals), being Deaf is a blessing, giving their children access to a
community that provides its members with shared experiences and support that is unavailable in any
other way (Paul 58). Ultimately, the parents do what they personally see as the best course of action
for helping their

Pantheon Vs Parthenon
This essay will be about two structures that were built by two different cultures. One was built in
Greece and the other was built in Rome. Both structure have the classical style of architecture but
were built in two different time periods. Both started out with the same function. One of the two
structures are no longer standing in all its glory and the other is still standing and being used today.
The building of the Parthenon was started in 447 BC at a time when the Athenian Empire was at the
height of its power. The temple continued until 432 BC.
The Parthenon s columns were of the Doric, Ionic, and Corinthian Order. The temple was dedicated to
the goddess Athena Pallas or Parthenos (virgin). The temple was triangular and had only two rooms. ...

The Pantheon is the best preserved building from ancient Rome. http://www.ancient.eu/Pantheon/
Archeological excavations have shown that the Pantheon, Rome had been destroyed, except for the
façade, not once but twice before it was completed.
The Pantheon, Rome has large granite Corinthian columns. The section of the building behind the
façade is round. It was originally faced with white marble stucco but is now brick and concrete. It has
a large circular domed cella with an oculus in the center to provide a natural source of light, as well as
serving as a cooling and ventilation method. The dome originally had a bronze ceiling, but in 1626 CE
Pope Urban VIII removed all of the bronze and had it melted and recast into 80 canons for the city s
Castel Sant Angelo.
Unlike the Greek temple Parthenon, the Pantheon, Rome s interior was deliberately made to outshine
the exterior of the building. This building has seven alcoves. Three of which are semi circular and four
rectangular. As noted earlier, the Parthenon only had two rectangular rooms.

Most of the foods on social media are advertise by fast food restaurants, which are unhealthy foods.
The survey result shows that 65% of the respondents believe that foods on social media are unhealthy
as shown in figure 8. Fast food advertising is most likely be called junk food advertising (Herron,
2014). According to research, University of Sydney reveals that junk food engages young Facebook
users to promote unhealthy food which can result to obesity and lifestyle diseases (The University of
Sydney, 2014) (Lee, 2014). Research says advertising promotes unhealthy habits, affect children s
preference and urging them to eat salty, sugary and greasy foods (Herron, 2014). For instance, fast
food restaurants offer chips and drink to answer a survey about their restaurant. In figure 9, 92% of the

The Awakening By Kate Chopin
Maternity Leave In The Worth of Women, Moderata stated, when it s said that women must be subject
to men, the phrase should be understood in the same sense as when we say we are subject to natural
disasters...it s not a case of being subjected in the sense of obeying, but rather of suffering an
imposition (Moderata). Throughout history, the inherent inferiority of women to men has often been
cited as a way to deter women from becoming an individual and pursuing more in life. This notion is a
prevalent issue in The Awakening by Kate Chopin; in which Edna fights to live her own way and is
ultimately unable to survive in the cage of society. Not only has this supposed inferiority effected

After years of following the gender roles that have been placed upon her she finally, was beginning to
realize her position in the universe as a human being, and to recognize her relations as an individual to
the world within and about her (Chopin 14). Edna has a personal awakening, in which she realizes that
she does not need to be held back, and she can escape from the cage she has been put in. Over time
she separates herself from the society around her, and begins to become more independent and free.
By overcoming the, indescribable oppression, which seemed to generate in some unfamiliar part of
her consciousness (Chopin 8), Edna becomes herself, and pushes away the people around her. She
alienates herself from the life she was raised in, and begins to live as she wants, and be who she truly
is. Most importantly, she [has] resolved never again to belong to another than herself (Chopin 76).
Unlike the fragile housewives who she acquaints herself with, Edna is able to discover the freedom of
being an individual. Although her husband and her friends continued to pressure her to return home,
she can no longer go back; now that she has a taste of a fulfilled life she can not return to her aimless
life of solitude. This revelation that overcomes Edna, the reality that she is living an unfulfilled life
that she must fix, ultimately becomes too much for her. The social

Rome And Han Comparison Essay
Owen Timmy
Group LEQ: Rome and Han Comparison
By the second and third centuries C.E, trade routes were connecting many civilizations across the land
and sea. These routes traded not only goods, but new beliefs and values as well. However, something
malicious also spread through these trade routes: disease. Both the Roman and Han empires
experienced imperial decline due to epidemic diseases spread by trade routes as well as conflicts with
neighboring forces due to clashing beliefs, however the Han Empire faced more internal problems,
whereas the Romans faced unrest from outside of the empire.

China mainly faced internal struggles, while the Romans mainly faced problems from external
sources. One problem was the aristocrats forming factions among each other, with each faction
seeking to gain more power for itself, which weakened the central government. Another problem was
the uneven distribution of land. Many landowners that possessed most of the land, were powerful
figures in the government who shifted the tax burden onto peasants. This angered the peasants, who
started the Yellow Turban Rebellion in 184 C.E. While the rebellion was unsuccessful in overthrowing
the empire, the unhappiness of the peasants would later lead to many more uprisings. By 220 C.E, the
emperor had no real political power and the Han generals abolished the empire and divided it into
three large kingdoms. On the other hand, the Romans were faced with a massive empire that they
struggled to manage. From 235 to 284 C.E, there were 26 different barrack emperors who controlled
Rome. The position was unstable, and many of them were betrayed and killed. The Roman economy
was also going downhill, and they were also faced with a population decline. These factors also
created a lack of resources needed to protect the empire. China s internal problems were due to the
peasants feeling like they were being mistreated; Rome s problems were due to its size and the

Reproduction In The Trail Of Life
Reproduction is critical when ensuring the survival of a species. As was mentioned in The Trails of
Life, an organism s main goal is to ensure that they pass along their genes to future generations. As it
is, the process of reproduction is a costly and sometimes dangerous feat. Nature provides a plethora of
issues that need to be overcome before an individual can successfully reproduce. Difficulties can, and
often do, arise in nearly every stage of reproduction. Organisms may have to battle inauspicious
environmental conditions, lack of resources, or physiological shortcomings, to name a few of the
nearly inexhaustive list of issues surrounding reproduction. Although problems with reproduction
exist, nature has evolved responses to cope with specific issues, allotting organisms with methods ...

In most cases species tend to reproduce under polygynous conditions where one male mates with
many females. An interesting example of a polygynous system in nature can be seen in the sea louse.
A male releases chemicals that attracts females, and as the females approach the male s nesting site, he
collects them and lines them in a row until he senses they are ready to mate. More mates equate to
more offspring, hence, this method for reproduction ensures that the male will pass his genes
throughout a population.
The most straight forward example of a rare monogamous mating relationship is often granted to
humans; however, in terms of other animal species, the albatross is a great example of this mating
system. Albatrosses mate for life, which is impressive being that many will live to be several decades
old. The albatrosses work together in raising their offspring. While one parent searches for food, the
other will remain with the chick often times undergoing near starvation in order to ensure the chick is

Van Wert Local Schools Case Study
Rough Draft Essay 3 My hometown, Van Wert County, does not run into many substantial problems
that it is forced to deal with. The town of roughly 28,000 people is relatively quiet for the most part
and is a peaceful place to live. Currently though, Van Wert cannot hold their July 4th fireworks display
at the airport like in the past because the airport is not permitted to hold them there anymore. To help
with this issue, there are three alternative solutions. These include asking permission of the county

neighboring county, or moving the display to the Van Wert local school. Moving the display to Van

The school would be a beneficial site to hold the display because it is secluded from the main section
of town. This is a significant factor because citizens of the town should not have to stress about
possible damage to their property. The school would also not be in charge of running the event at all.
Ed Gebert, the local Times Bulletin Editor, wrote an article stating who would be in control of the
display along with information about parking. Parking was proposed on the south side of the school
with the city taking care of the display, setting up and cleaning after (Gebert). The viewers could then
use the parking while the school would not have to concern themselves with being in charge of it. In
years past, the display was held at the local airport. In addition to forcing viewers to get there early,
they would also have to park along side of the road. This solution would take away that danger,
making the experience safer for all involved. An abundance of student parking would be the ideal
parking for citizens. However, disadvantages are also present in this particular solution. The concerns
of those who do live by the school should also be taken into account. If the property were to be
damaged, there would be a conflict with those in charge. Legal consequences could arise and cause
unwanted stress on many people. Moving the

Others believe that music should not be censored because it would infringe on the artist s right to
freedom of speech, but music containing explicit lyrics should be criticized for their negative content.
Senator Sam Brownback of Kansas delivered a speech to the City Club of Cleveland. In his speech he
discusses how music has a major affect on youth, and how crimes among teenagers have increased
greatly, since music with explicit lyrics have been out on the market. He also expresses that music
should not be censored, because the artist have the right to say what they want in their lyrics, but
society also had the right to criticize the explicit lyrics in their music. (1 9) The right to freedom of
speech is given to all people under the bill of rights. If people weren t allowed to speak what they felt
this country would not be where it is today. However, other Americas feel that there should be no such
thing as censorship on music, but it is completely up to the parents to decide what their children
should listen to. In an article written by Olivia Clarke, she interviews parents to see what they have to
say about the music their children listen too. Lory Reinisch listens to the music her children listen to
and then tells them what songs they can listen to on the CD. (3) Artists that produce hardcore music is

but there are of course many other ways to look at globalization in the modern world.
I would like to also mention the text A Life of One s Own in a Runaway World by Beck, that focus on
individuals need for freedom, and the dream of being the boss of your own life. I believe that some
would argue, that this new focus on the individual in the western world and less on the development of
society, can have a downside for the part of the world who does not have the means to do the same.
This here would present a picture on how globalization only offers a new field of oppertunity for the
people who have the means to take control of their own lives and only focus on their own individual.
I would argue that depending on which side, because there are many, of globalization you look at, you
can find either a field of oppertunity or a new way to structure old inequalities. Hopefully the closer
we move to a more globalized world, we will experience individuals and society in closer relation to
eachother, and globalization would then be catagorized as a field of oppertunity.

Transvestitism Essay
Transvestitism
In the last few decades, there has been a rapid change in social attitude towards so called sexual
problems. There has been a call for the freedom to live in the style of which one chooses, so long as
no one else is harmed in the process. One area that appears little understood, however, is

many aspects of transvestitism that should be examined, some being: history, societal views, the gay

Why, then are most cross dressers secretive about their affection for this? According to Dr. Peggy
Rudd (1995), most are secretive, because they have many fears related to the consequences of having
their big secret discovered. In general, non participants do not consider transvestitism, socially
acceptable. Many cross dressers fear the detrimental effects upon other family members, and many are
concerned about the possibility of losing their job as a result of coming out.
Some cross dressers feel guilty because society has placed them into stereotypes, including the
incorrect assumption that all cross dressers are gay, or that all transvestites are potential transsexuals.
To the contrary, while some are gay, most cross dressers want to share their life with a woman, and the
number of gay males is far less among crossdressers than among the general population (Rudd, 1995).
Most identify primarily as a male who has, and retains, male gender identity. Often they are married,
and the father of children. (Prince, 1971) This in itself presents the question of whether or not to tell
spouses, and/or, their children about this. Many do not, out of fear of being seen as deviant, and
perhaps losing those most dear to them. It is a natural thing for cross dressers to want to share all of
themselves with those they love, but as there is risk of rejection, many choose to wait until they feel
comfortable that the risk has lessened, or keep it a secret forever.

Dangers And Long-Term Effects Of Tanning
Media Analysis Media is the plural of the word medium , which often refers to different ways of
communicating with other people; if the target is a large number of people, then it is called mass
media . There are many types of media, such as TV, radio, films, newspaper, Internet etc. The main
purpose of media is to entertain; however they can also be used to persuade, inform, explain and
advice. Media can be very powerful; therefore people are influenced and affected by them. The two
articles we have looked at for analysis have a common theme both talks about the dangers and long
term effects of tanning. The first article is from The Big Issues and the second is from Derby Evening

The two texts have been written with different intentions and they both have specific target audiences.
The first text, Sun Vampires from The Big Issue, has been written to inform the readers of the dangers
and long term effects of tanning. Other purposes include: to ridicule the tanorexics , to advice people
about the proper method of tanning and to warn those who are beginning to go on the sunbeds. The
main target audience of this article is the younger generations of the society who are more likely to get
addicted to tanning on sunbeds. Nevertheless to some extent, the authorial intent is to entertain and
titillate leisurely readers who are looking for something to amuse the mind. In order to achieve the
purpose and communicate the ideas to the readership, the writer uses vernacular language such as fork
out , one hell of a habit and let s face it , and modern names, e.g. Peter Andre and Bros these
techniques appeal greatly to the young people and therefore convey the message more effectively. The
writer also grabs the attention of casual readers by using a light hearted tone as a result of this, the
reader wouldn t be too shocked or frightened, thus willing to buy another copy of the magazine in the
future. The second text, Face the fact the sun is a real danger , from Derby Evening Telegraph (DET),
have similar purposes to the Sun Vampires : to

HCA255 Health Care Access
Health Care Access in Arizona
Heidi Haugen
Grand Canyon University: HCA 255
February 1, 2015
Health Care Access in Arizona Recently the Untied States top priority has been to provide accessible
and affordable health care to every American. Those that lack access to coverage find it much more
difficult to seek proper treatment and when they do they maybe left with astronomical medical bills.
The CommanWealth Fund found that one third or thirty three percent of Americans forgo health care
because of costs and one fifth or twenty percent are thus left with medical bills that have problems
being able to pay. The federal government, through the Affordable Care Act (2010), has mandated that
every person have health coverage in order ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Governor Brewer also planned on taxing hospitals in order to receive funds for the program. Her
reasoning in doing so is because Arizona already charges a two percent insurance premium tax and a
provider tax on nursing homes (Roy, A. 2013). She also feels that by expanding Medicaid, hospitals
will start to receive payment for services that would have otherwise not been paid for by those who
are uninsured. For those adults with children that are not eligible for Medicaid but their income is not
enough for private insurance, KidsCare was an option until it froze in January 2010 due to a cost
cutting effort. KidsCare is a state sponsored insurance program for low income families that is part of
the federal Children s Health Insurance Program (CHIP). Arizona is currently the only state that does
not have a CHIP program which forces families that were on the program to partake in the health care
exchange and pay for private insurance or forgo health coverage and be uninsured (Whiteman, M.,
2014). The number of children covered at the time of the program freeze went from 45,000 to about
2,000, which was a ninety five percent drop (Whiteman, M., 2014). Governor Jan Brewer proposed to
restore coverage to thousand of children through KidsCare II, where Phoenix Children s Hospital,
Maricopa Integrated Health System, and the University of Arizona Health Network would pull money
together and receive extra federal funds. The federal funds that the

Bearded Iris Research Paper
There is something majestic and magical about the Bearded Iris. The only color that can not be found
in this beautiful flower is bright red. The bulbs are easy to plant and they can spread rather quickly.
These perennials are hardy in US Zones 3 9, needing a freeze so they can go dormant. They need to be
planted in late summer or early fall. They like a sunny spot with at least six hours of full sun to help to
keep the rhizomes dry. They grow best in a neutral soil and only need granular fertilizer a couple time
a year. The best times to feed them is in the early spring and after they bloom. It s best to plant them
about 16 18 inches apart for good air circulation. They do not need mulching because constant
moisture will rot the rhizomes.

The Pros And Cons Of Military Budget Cuts
In the past America has been a dominant superpower in the field of military strength, but for the last
few decades, our military has encountered abounding liquidations and sequestrations, which lead to
huge budget cuts. Nevertheless, America has faced many politicians planning to cut down on our
military by virtue of it is simply cost effective. The Clinton Foundation has been cutting our military
for countless years. Also, under the Obama Administration has been enacting laws comparable to the
Budget Control Act or (BCA) which has been siphoning our military for the past 8 years. For
countless years, defense officials remain silent due to the Obama Administration, vaguely America
could keep its budget under control. Consequently, all four ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The Air Force prides itself with quality over capacity. Aircraft average 27 years old (Cooper) the
aircraft are older and the Air Force has less of them than ever before. This is from sequestrations and
liquidations under Acts like the BCA for many years. Consequently, the Air Force did not grow during
the military build after 9/11. Instead they chose to upgrade their Airplanes and buildings, different
from other branches who chose to expand their capacity. The Air Force has been continually cut to the
point of not enough money to fly sorties and pilots being unable to maintain cockpit skills (Cooper).
Nevertheless, pilots are unable to maintain their skills flying due to lack of funding and unable to
conduct their missions. Notwithstanding, the Air Force is not able to even fly because they do not have
the Aircraft nor the money to fly their Aircraft. This has caused the most current and qualified Air
Force fighter pilots are flying at a rate so low that we could have considered them unfit for combat in
the 80 s and 90 s (Cooper). Accordingly, when pilots are not getting enough time up in the air it causes
more errors and makes pilots more likely to commit fatal mistakes. This also gives the enemy an
advantage in the air when engaged in combat because the more practice pilots have at flying the better
the pilot. Ordinarily, this has caused Capitol Hill, several top U.S. military

Similarities Between the Scottsboro Boys and Tom Robinson...
There are many similarities between the Scottsboro trial and the trial of Tom Robinson in the novel,
To Kill a Mockingbird. No crime in American history let alone a crime that never occurred produced
as many trials, convictions, reversals, and retrials as did an alleged gang rape of two white girls by
nine black teenagers on a Southern railroad freight run on March 25, 1931 (Linder 1). The author of
To Kill a Mockingbird, Harper Lee, was a young girl during the Scottsboro trial and based the trial of
Tom Robinson in her novel off of the Scottsboro trial of 1931. The three main similarities between the
Scottsboro trial and the trial of Tom Robinson are the geographic settings, the portrayal of racism, and
the specifics of the court ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Both trials were based off of false accusations against black men. In To Kill a Mockingbird, Tom
Robinson was accused of rape by Mayella Ewell. And in the Scottsboro trial Charles Weems, Clarence
Norris, Andy Wright, Ozie Powelll, Olen Montgomery, Eugene Williams, Willie Roberson, Roy
Wright, and Haywood Patterson were accused of rape by Ruby Bates and Victoria Price, a known
prostitute. The witnesses for the state have presented themselves to you gentlemen, to this court, on
the cynical confidence that their testimony would not be doubted, confident that you gentlemen would
go along with them on the assumption the evil assumption that all Negros lie, that all Negros are
basically immoral beings, that all Negro men are not to be trusted around our women, an assumption
one associates with minds of their caliber (Lee 204). This quote was stated by Atticus in To Kill a
Mockingbird in the court and he is stating the beliefs of most people in the south during the Great
Depression. These trials took place during a time of segregation and racism so most people took the
side of the white women. Both of the juries and judges for these trials were white. Because of this, the
accused had no chance of getting equal treatment or justice. The last and most important similarity
between the Tom Robinson trial and the Scottsboro trial is the similarities within the court.

Research Paper On Brown Dwarfs
The life and death of a star is both interesting and complicated. The formation of a star might not be as
simple as you think. Some stars actually fail to form big enough to ever be seen. You might also
believe that a star will shine forever. However, stars can also lose their energy, causing them to
become other types of formations. Stars can be complex anomalies that can end up in several forms
including neutron stars, brown dwarfs, and white dwarfs. Star formation is a rather simple process.
Gasses in space clump together with dust and rock. Over millions of years these materials begin to
form small orbs. Eventually it the clump will get big enough to create gravity. The core will become
hot from the constant pressure and will use hydrogen to make helium using nuclear fusion. This
fusions creates a tremendous amount of energy creating a fiery ball in space. ... Show more content on

A brown dwarf forms when a star fails to form. This is why brown dwarfs are often referred to as
failed stars . When a star is forming it has to create enough fusion to generate enough energy. Brown
dwarfs do not get large enough to be able to sustain nuclear fusion. These dwarfs are called brown
because even though they do not shine brightly they still have little heat in their core to give it a small
glow. After a brown dwarf has formed it will star in space with its glow of millions of years. White
dwarfs are an effect of small star deaths. White dwarfs form when a star runs out of hydrogen to create
energy with using nuclear fusion. The star s gravity takes over due to no energy pushing back. The star
then becomes extremely dense forcing atoms together. The hot ball is then left in space to cool over
billions of years. No known white dwarf has ever cooled because the universe is only 13.7 billion
years old and some of the first white dwarfs are still thousands of degrees

Consequences Of Nursing School Student Plagiarism
Nursing School Student Plagiarism
Plagiarism is defined as the presentation of work for credit that is not [a writer s] own (Johanson,
2010, p. 267). The information obtained by a writer from another source should be cited in the text
and referenced when paraphrasing or quoting another author s material (APA, 2010). Student
plagiarism can be avoided by using electronic resources or software to prevent unintentional
plagiarism, educating students on how to properly cite and reference material in an academic writing,
and providing information to students about the consequences of plagiarizing.
Plagiarism Case Plagiarism cases can provide insight on the dire consequences that can occur if a
student is caught plagiarizing within an academic setting. A former student of Rutgers University,
Amanda Serpico, was accused by her professor of plagiarizing on her opinion paper in her
argumentation class (Bailey, 2011). Amanda received credit for using citations in a majority of the
paper and providing the sources in the reference section, but she did not properly cite at least three
verbatim passages that she used within her work (Bailey, 2011). Amanda utilized Turnitin software to
review her paper and to detect plagiarism before turning in the assignment for grading to her professor
(Bailey, 2011). The plagiarism accusation resulted in Amanda receiving a failing grade on the paper, a
failing grade in the course, and being denied admission to several graduate schools. (Bailey,

A Feminist Perspective on The Secret Life of Bees
I m tired of carrying around the weight of the world. I m just going to lay it down now. It s my time to

which literary pieces are examined to understand the nature of gender inequality and social norms.
Sue Monk Kidd s The Secret Life of Bees examined through a feminist lens demonstrates the
patriarchy found in Owens household, shows the advantages of all female community, distinguish that

Discuss The Relationship Between The HRM And CSR Relationship
1) THE HRM CSR RELATIONSHIP The correlation between HRM and CSR has recently been
acknowledged (Buciuniene Kazlauskaite, 2012; Pless et al., 2012) and while there are studies solely
focusing on the role of HRM in developing CSR practices (ref) there have been other studies
recognizing the two way relationship (ref). According to my understanding of the two distinct
disciplines, the relationship can be studied from the CSR to HRM perspective which enables the
development of HRM policies and practices under a moral and ethical lens, and from the HRM to
CSR link which focuses on the roles of HRM in the development and implementation of CSR strategy.
I believe that there are mutual beneficial aspects of constructing a two way HRM CSR relation,
however this study will maintain a realistic approach and HRM has a stronger grasp in corporate
affairs compered to CSR management. This is due to mainly two reasons: first, HRM has been widely
developed in research since early 1920s being therefore more utilized within corporations while CSR
is a concept taking momentum now and still broadly debated. Second, there is more evidence about
HRM acting as a corporate facilitator to reach positive a profitable outcomes compered to CSR
strategies which are still discussed among business and political parties. Therefore, in order to produce
a conceptual tool that can be substantially used the emphases will be given to the role of HRM in
developing CSR policies. 1.1 THE CROSS CULTURAL

Global Strategy Of Hong Kong And Shanghai Bank Essay
In Depth Integrative Case 4.1: HSBC in China
1. How has HSBC adapted its global strategy to operate in China, both before and after China s WTO
accession?
China s financial industry was just another piece of the centrally planned or command economy of
China before any World Trade Organization (WTO) accession agreements were put in place.
Regulated lending practices where govern for the banks to hewed to and indeed produced a few of
China s notable thriving businesses, at the same time sustained hundreds of additional incompetent
and profitless state owned operations.
This manner transmitted state commercial banks with an extensive mass of debt that happened to be
essentially unrecoverable and swarms of non performing credits. In the year 1865, Hong Kong and
Shanghai Bank (HSBC) was established to bankroll the expanding trade between China, Europe, and
India. HSBC quickly extended their reach by opening offices worldwide with a sustained sharp center
in China as well as particular Asia Pacific territories. As the decade of 1880 approached the calendar,
the group provided maintenance of British administration accounts in the countries, China, Japan,
Penang, and Singapore. HSBC also secured state funds in Hong Kong and distributed banknotes.
Following the two World Wars, HSBC aimed to a climactic extension within takeovers and mergers to
diversify the company. In 1993, the bank relocated their headquarters from Hong Kong to London
while they proceeded with their global

Burrowing owls often live in occupied prairie dog...
Burrowing owls often live in occupied prairie dog colonies. Researchers have proposed several
theories regarding why this occurs. One reason may be that owls avoid predation because they share
many of the same predators with black tailed prairie dogs and the presence of the prairie dogs helps to
reduce predation. Another theory is that the burrowing owls live in active prairie dog colonies in order
to listen to the prairie dogs for cues on when a predator is near. This behavior has been documented
between other groups, usually mammals or reptiles responding to bird alarm calls. This study aimed to
show whether burrowing owls responded differently to prairie dog predator alarms compared to other
sounds, both biological and man made. To ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The burrowing owls reactions were recorded on camera in order to analyze the number and rate of
responses to the different recordings. Only birds within 30 meters of the speakers were included in the
data. Alert responses were measured for the first 10 seconds of the stimulus broadcast to verify that
the bird continued to react beyond initial startling. Behaviors that were considered to be alert
behaviors included head turning, stretching to look up, vocalizing, and head bobbing. Relaxed
behaviors included sleeping, preening, yawning, and foraging. The behaviors were all noted during the
broadcast then categorized for data analysis. Statistical tests were performed to ensure that the order of
the sounds didn t affect results. The researchers also tested connections between nest identity and
observation location. Finally, they verified whether trials could be looked at individually when the
same nest was tested because the same individuals may have been observed more than once. After all
these statistical tests, the trials were adjusted to include the best results that showed no confounding
variables. The results showed that burrowing owls did increase alert behaviors following a prairie dog
alarm call. The alarm call produced a faster reaction than the biological control sound of cows mooing
and the reaction was sustained for a longer time period.

Characteristics And Restrictions Of Valued Activities...
This study evaluated napping characteristics and restrictions in valued activities participation among
community dwelling older adults. In unadjusted models, we found an association between both
intentional and unintentional napping and increased odds of restrictions in at least one valued activity,
in comparison to rarely or never napping. While this association held after adjustment for
demographic and health characteristics, there was no association between napping intention and
restrictions in valued activities after further adjustment for depressive and anxiety symptoms when
compared to rarely or never nappers. Among nappers, average nap duration and frequent napping were
associated with restrictions in at least one valued activity, while napping intention was not. Moreover,
when comparing individual activities among nappers, the strongest association was between napping
characteristics (i.e. frequency, nap duration) and restrictions in going out for enjoyment followed by
visiting with friends and family. Altogether, these results indicate an independent association between
frequent, longer naps and restrictions in daytime functioning among community dwelling older adults,
especially among those who nap. Napping may be sign of daytime sleepiness which may lead to
restrictions in valued activities. Our findings are similar to those of studies on excessive daytime
sleepiness (EDS) that have utilized self reported napping as a marker for EDS. One community based

  • 2. Poland Essay I write hoping to give voice to the condition of Poland and her people to our representatives. In this moment of terror, we need the leadership and guidance of our government, now more than ever to give our countrymen comfort and strength in our hour of need. Our government in London is there to represent our people to the global community, and in this moment, we desperately need your help. There needs to be a record of our suffering. The last two years have brought great change to our nation. Once again, the Soviets and Nazis have divided Poland into their own halves, and in the west, we are under Nazi occupation. Unfortunately, the last two years were a series of swift and confusing events. Our allies Britain and France have forsaken ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This has made them sloppy in who they choose for filling their quotas and it appears that the Jews are the easiest to deport given they are living in guarded ghettos. Ethnic cleansing The deportation reinforces the Nazi s view of us as animals, rather, then humans. Our lives hold no value to the Nazis, we are Polish swine not worthy of life. But I believe that with our huge population, neither the concept of the Polish State nor the Jews will be eliminated by the Nazi s heartless actions. If those with influence outside our nation could use their voice to testify to the suffering for every Polish citizen. Another reason for the deportations of Poles is the resistance movement that has formed. The spirit of the January Uprising has not left our people, and there has formed a resistance movement. The Nazis fear the willingness of Poles to fight for their homeland. Yet, they seemed to have devised a plan to combat and destroy our fighting spirit. They have started a war against the clergy and intelligentsia believing that we are the leadership, and the destruction of the leadership class will allow for control of the nation. To destroy the leadership, will let our nation be open those who are not a thin Germanic layer, [with an] underneath [of] frightful material, but ethnic Germans, in need of a homeland. • 3. Yin and Yang YIN AND YANG YIN AND YANG I. THE YIN YANG THEORY Ancient Chinese people were greatly interested in the relationships and patterns that occurred in nature. Instead of studying isolated things, they viewed the world as a harmonious and holistic entity. In their eyes, no single being or form could exist unless it was seen in relation to its surrounding environment. By simplifying these relationships, they tried to explain complicated phenomena in the universe. 1. What is the Yin Yang Theory? Yin yang theory is a kind of logic, which views things in relation to its whole. The theory is based on two basic components: yin and yang, which are neither materials nor energy. They combine in a complementary manner and form a method for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They depend on each other for definition and can only be measured by comparing themselves to each other. For example, heat ceases to exist (yang aspect) if there is no such thing as cold (yin aspect). Without an understanding of hot and cold, there would only be one temperature. Height (yang aspect) cannot be measured if there is not a low reference point (yin aspect); otherwise, everything would be at one level. In addition, the comparisons between yin and yang are relative to the objects being compared. For example, when soup is first cooked it is hot but after it a while it becomes cold, but the hot cold distinction is relative to a cold an ice cube and boiling water. According to the yin yang theory, our physical body is closely related to its physiological functions. The activity (yang) of our body is nourished by its physical form (yin), and the physical form is created and maintained by the body s activity. They rely on each other to achieve a balanced state of health. [pic] [pic] 3. Yin and Yang change and grow in a cyclic and balanced manner. Yin and yang achieve a state of balance by mutual control and inhibition. The balance is neither static nor absolute, but is maintained within certain limits. At certain times, yin expands while yang diminishes. At other times, the opposite is true. The change of seasons illustrates this concept. From

  • 5. Exporting Anti-Gay Ideology Exporting Ideology A series of events have been set in motion globally to thwart the progress of one of the most consequential cultural shifts in human history. The gay rights movement, particularly in the Western World, has made progress at an exponential rate and has remained a contentious source of argument in the contemporary social and political landscape. Although significant strides have been made, right wing religious groups have taken ideologically charged action both legislatively and rhetorically. In a collection of Eastern European and African countries, anti gay legislation and sentiment has garnered support from regional governmental factions and right wing religious coalitions. The force driving these anti gay initiatives are not at the behest of the citizenry of each respective region, but by American forces that until recently have been working in the shadows in their proxy war against the gay rights movement. American evangelical groups have been operating with collaborators abroad in order to preserve their notion of natural and traditional values. Most notably, a series of anti gay propaganda and anti gay adoption laws have been enacted in Russia by national legislators and American activists. The American right wing evangelical coalition has had tremendous influence on the Russian anti gay movement legislatively and politically over the course of the last decade. The goals of these American activists have not spawned out of the ether, but are eerily ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. The Environment And Atmospheric Impacts On Earth s... Looking off into the distance, stacks are jutting high into the sky. Even higher than those stacks, are the plumes that are being ejected from them. These plumes are filled with chemicals commonly known in the global climate world as emissions; these emissions deplete the ozone and are causing significant impacts on Earth s ecological environment. Everyone is guilty of creating and releasing emissions. While individuals do have an impact, they do not have as large of an impact on the environment as power plants. Power plants are usually running 24 hours a day, seven days a week; this means they are producing emissions just as much. Power plants need to start finding a way to utilize sustainable energy sources because eventually, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In 1993, a fourth unit was added; in addition to burning coal and natural gas, it can also burn a small amount of biofuel. Finally, in 2006, the last two units were added. The fifth unit is a steam turbine/generator and the sixth unit is a natural gas combustion turbine and companion waster heat/heat recovery steam generator ( History n.d.). Producing approximately 100 megawatts per hour, this plant needs an exorbitant amount of fuel source to provide this energy ( Generating Power n.d.). Since 1965, the fuel source for this power plant has largely been coal. MSU promotes itself as a green campus, and coal emits a large amounts of emissions; therefore, there has been a shift away from coal. Also, with the new EPA regulations, it would have cost more money to redesign the units to meet these standards burning coal than it would to switch to natural gas ( MSU to Stop 2015). This is why by the end of 2016, MSU will be switching to natural gas as the main fuel source for this power plant. Instead of coal being the main fuel source, it will now be natural gas; using natural gas in place of coal will reduce emissions by approximately 50 percent (Pacala 2004, 969). This is a big step towards MSU s goals of being a green campus and using sustainable energy. However, while natural gas has lower emissions, it does cost more than coal. In September of 2015, Powder River Basin Coal cost $537/MWh (megawatt hour) and Natural Gas Henry ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Descriptive Essay On Being A Waitress It s always nice to go out to eat, order a nice meal that you do not have to cook and be served everything you want. When going out to eat, have you ever thought about the person that is serving you food, getting you drinks, and making sure you have a pleasant experience at the restaurant of your choice? That person is a server. He or she is a waiter or waitress. I ve gone out to eat a lot, and I ve always been a little curious what is like to be the person serving the food and not eating it. I chose to research this subculture because I was so curious about it. I have some friends that wait tables, but I hadn t really thought about how being a waitress involves so many things aside from serving food. Waitressing is more about handling all different types of people, and learning to multitask successfully than just serving food. When I go out to eat, I usually only notice if the waitress or waiter is nice to me and my party. I make sure that all of the food and drinks come out the way we ordered them, and I also pay attention to how the food tastes. When I started my research and observation for this ethnography, I started to pay more attention the server when I was eating at restaurants. I started to notice how many tables the server waited on, I noticed how many times he or she had to take food back to the kitchen because someone thought it was wrong or not cooked right, and I also noticed how unhappy he or she was when they left a certain table. • 9. Abstinence-Only vs. Comprehensive Sex Education Essay Since the HIV/AIDS epidemic began in the U.S. in the early 1980s the issue of sex education for American youth has had the attention of the nation. There are about 400,000 teen births every year in the U.S, with about 9 billion in associated public costs. STI contraction in general, as well as teen pregnancy, have put the subject even more so on the forefront of the nation s leading issues. The approach and method for proper and effective sex education has been hotly debated. Some believe that teaching abstinence only until marriage is the best method while others believe that a more comprehensive approach, which includes abstinence promotion as well as contraceptive information, is necessary. Other supporters think that sex education should not deviate from other teachings of other health curricula such as drunk driving, tobacco use, drug use, alcohol consumption, gun use, fighting; all things which are taught to just not do (Collins, Alagira, and Summers 12 13). They believe that it is the responsibility of a public institution which serves kids to teach them risk avoidance rather than harm reduction ( WebMD: Better Information. Better Health ). Many advocates for abstinence only education believe that its message is strongly intertwined with traditional values and religious faith; both of which they claim to have measurable influence in preventing teens from having sex (Collins, Alagira, and Summers 12 13). Christian conservative women believe that comprehensive sex education would encourage sexual activity and lesbianism, as well as undercut marriage and create social decay (Fields 24). Proponents for abstinence only education believe that the abstinence only message has contributed to the decline of adolescent sexual activity as well as negative related outcomes. In the 1990s there was a decrease in adolescent pregnancy, birth and abortion rates. • 10. Divine Law And Civil Law In SophoclesAntigone Antigone, daughter and sister of Oedipus, believes to live a fated life. When her brother Polyneices is denied a burial by the King of Thebes, Creon, Antigone gets in trouble for following the laws of the gods. Her choices get her sent away and eventually lead to her death. In Sophocles play, Antigone, the characters show clashes between divine law and civil law, with the divine law having a bigger impact in the play. Characters who follow civil law tend to be afraid of punishment by the government leaders. As Ismene states, You just said the new law forbids it. (Sophocles Pro.32), she wants to avoid any type of negative encounter with Creon or the government. She does not want herself, or Antigone, to get in trouble. This was Ismene s way of showing her belief in civil law. By her fearing the punishment she may face if she breaks the laws, she chooses not to do what is right by the gods. In her denial of divine law, she believes that it is Polyneices fault that he is forbidden a burial. In her opinion, Polyneices chose to become a traitor to the city of Thebes, therefore Ismene will not put her own freedom in jeopardy over his mistakes. Those who follow civil law have a greater respect and appreciation for civil leaders and local governments than the gods. Creon, being a leader, would rather have all his citizens follow the laws he puts in place in order to create a less rebellious society. If the people of Thebes all a bigger faith in divine law, the city would fall to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The first important value in Wonder is to never judge anyone by their appearance. Auggie s schedule in the past 10 years, consisted of being homeschooled by his mom, Isabel. Consequently, when kids are bullies they are often shocked by bullying that they are not sure what to do (Gordon, n.d.). Society, unfortunately, has become more focused on the bullies rather than the victims. Judging someone by their looks is NOT okay. How can you judge someone when you do not even know the person? It is from my personal experience, that people are nicer to the rich or middle class whereas others frown upon poor people. • 12. The For Your Child s Winter Essay You can t miss the nip in the air, and as the year draws to an end, the mercury is going to dip even further. This also means it s time to pull out all those colourful woollies that have been languishing in the cupboard, and maybe buy some new ones to stay in sync with the season s trends. Gone are the days when the over sized woolens came in monotonous and boring winter shades. Now, you can splurge on colours and watch your child radiate the brightness. Red is big for girls and boys, and the metallics that lit up the runways in the fall are also gracing kids winter lines. When choosing woolens for your child, practicality is of utmost importance. But don t overlook the fashion angle. Kids, these days, are extremely conscious about what they wear. Here are a few winter must haves for your child. 1. Just jackets Your child s winter wardrobe would be incomplete without a warm and colourful jacket. Depending on where you are stationed, you can opt for a quilt lined jacket, a football jacket, a classic denim one or the contemporary ones that look more like coats. Cotton, Light and medium poly fill jackets are in fashion these days, with sweat jackets ruling the fashion scene. Jackets, not only provide ample warmth, but when zipped right up, take care of the entire upper torso without you having to worry much. Little girls can add a few frills and flowers to their jackets without thinking twice. And if it s not too cold, they can even go for chic shrugs. Tip: Here s a word ... • 14. Television and Media Violence Is Aggressive Behavior Linked to Television Violence? According the Centerwall (1992), the average child aged 2 5 in 1990 watched 27 hours of television per day, or almost 4 hours per day. When much of what is on television, including cartoons and television shows targeted at children, contains violence, it becomes important to know whether watching televised violence can lead to or increase aggressive behavior. Social learning theory tells us that children model their behavior after those they see. It is reasonable, then, to infer that watching violence on television will lead to behaving violently, due to the modeling effect. • 17. Cochlear Implants Case Study When faced with having to make a major decision for their children, parents are often thrown into a difficult and perplexing situation. These decisions become even more difficult for the parents when the decision involves putting their children through something they cannot relate to. This is the case when parents are required to decide whether to have cochlear implant surgery performed on their deaf child. The decision of whether to go through with this procedure, which, when successful, provides a deaf individual with the ability to hear, puts parents in a position to make an epistemically and personally transformative decision for their child. Paul begins her exploration into this transformative choice by examining the stances of two different groups regarding this decision: members of the Deaf community, and the remainder of the general population. According to Paul, when considering the necessity of having cochlear implant surgery performed on their children, major ideological differences between the two groups became quite apparent: While large medical corporations, experts in the medical community, and some members of the hearing population strongly supported the use of cochlear implants, especially in children, many members of the Deaf community resisted mass implantation (Paul 57). From the perspective of a hearing individual, this preference may seem baffling. What would prevent someone from wanting their child to have all the advantages of life, including the ability to use all their senses to their fullest potential? This way of thinking, however, only gives insight into how humans make decisions; that is, subjectively based on our own personal values and experiences. In the eyes of Deaf parents (with a capital D, implying that they are members of a community of non hearing, fully capable people, instead of a group of disabled individuals), being Deaf is a blessing, giving their children access to a community that provides its members with shared experiences and support that is unavailable in any other way (Paul 58). Ed Gebert, the local Times Bulletin Editor, wrote an article stating who would be in control of the display along with information about parking. Parking was proposed on the south side of the school with the city taking care of the display, setting up and cleaning after (Gebert). The viewers could then use the parking while the school would not have to concern themselves with being in charge of it. In years past, the display was held at the local airport. In addition to forcing viewers to get there early, they would also have to park along side of the road. This solution would take away that danger, making the experience safer for all involved. An abundance of student parking would be the ideal parking for citizens. However, disadvantages are also present in this particular solution. Wounds related to Diabetic Neuropathy Patients with diabetic neuropathy generally ended up with wounds, since they have reduced ability to feel pain and temperature. The problem that the guideline addresses is patients with lower extremity neuropathic disease (LEND) with or at risk for wounds (National Guideline Clearinghouse, 2012, para. 1). The purpose of the guideline is to support clinical practice by providing consistent, research based information with the goal of improved cost effective patient outcomes as well as to stimulate increased wound research (National Guideline Clearinghouse, 2012, para. 9). Overall, the results show that APC treatment of lower leg ulcers in patients with diabetes improves wound healing, with a subsequent improvement in patient quality of life and no deleterious effect on patient safety (Kaley et al., 2013, p.5). Qualitative Article Living with leg ulceration: a synthesis of qualitative research is a study that analyzes twelve research studies about patients experience of living with a leg ulcer. The authors used a method called Qualitative Assessment and Review Instrument (QARI). This tool is designed to assist researchers to manage, appraise, analyze and synthesize textual data and provides a structure for the synthesis (Briggs Flemming, 2007, p.320). Additionally, they used different database to gather the records and ended up with twelve studies that met the criteria. In summary, the topic that was most mentioned, with the most volume of data, was physical effects like pain, odor, itch, leakage and infection. Also, the least mentioned was psychological impact (Briggs Flemming, 2007). Even though psychological impact was the least theme mentioned, that does not mean that it is not as important. Reasons could be that physical effects overwhelmed the psychological ones. The authors described the problem as the leg ulcer journey. It explains as two routes, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 41. Transvestitism Essay Transvestitism In the last few decades, there has been a rapid change in social attitude towards so called sexual problems. There has been a call for the freedom to live in the style of which one chooses, so long as no one else is harmed in the process. One area that appears little understood, however, is transvestitism, or cross dressing. In order to gain some knowledge about this phenomenon, there are many aspects of transvestitism that should be examined, some being: history, societal views, the gay versus straight issue, and women dressing as men. Transvestitism has a long history, ranging from mythical figures to medieval saints who cross dressed; from the many instances of berdache in anthropological literature to historical ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Why, then are most cross dressers secretive about their affection for this? According to Dr. Peggy Rudd (1995), most are secretive, because they have many fears related to the consequences of having their big secret discovered. In general, non participants do not consider transvestitism, socially acceptable. Many cross dressers fear the detrimental effects upon other family members, and many are concerned about the possibility of losing their job as a result of coming out. Some cross dressers feel guilty because society has placed them into stereotypes, including the incorrect assumption that all cross dressers are gay, or that all transvestites are potential transsexuals. To the contrary, while some are gay, most cross dressers want to share their life with a woman, and the number of gay males is far less among crossdressers than among the general population (Rudd, 1995). Most identify primarily as a male who has, and retains, male gender identity. Often they are married, and the father of children. (Prince, 1971) This in itself presents the question of whether or not to tell spouses, and/or, their children about this. Many do not, out of fear of being seen as deviant, and perhaps losing those most dear to them. It is a natural thing for cross dressers to want to share all of themselves with those they love, but as there is risk of rejection, many choose to wait until they feel comfortable that the risk has lessened, or keep it a secret forever. The main target audience of this article is the younger generations of the society who are more likely to get addicted to tanning on sunbeds. The CommanWealth Fund found that one third or thirty three percent of Americans forgo health care because of costs and one fifth or twenty percent are thus left with medical bills that have problems being able to pay. Governor Brewer also planned on taxing hospitals in order to receive funds for the program. Her reasoning in doing so is because Arizona already charges a two percent insurance premium tax and a provider tax on nursing homes (Roy, A. 2013). She also feels that by expanding Medicaid, hospitals will start to receive payment for services that would have otherwise not been paid for by those who are uninsured. For those adults with children that are not eligible for Medicaid but their income is not enough for private insurance, KidsCare was an option until it froze in January 2010 due to a cost cutting effort. KidsCare is a state sponsored insurance program for low income families that is part of the federal Children s Health Insurance Program (CHIP). Arizona is currently the only state that does not have a CHIP program which forces families that were on the program to partake in the health care exchange and pay for private insurance or forgo health coverage and be uninsured (Whiteman, M., 2014). • 47. Research Paper On Brown Dwarfs The life and death of a star is both interesting and complicated. The formation of a star might not be as simple as you think. Some stars actually fail to form big enough to ever be seen. You might also believe that a star will shine forever. However, stars can also lose their energy, causing them to become other types of formations. Stars can be complex anomalies that can end up in several forms including neutron stars, brown dwarfs, and white dwarfs. Star formation is a rather simple process. Gasses in space clump together with dust and rock. Over millions of years these materials begin to form small orbs. Eventually it the clump will get big enough to create gravity. The core will become hot from the constant pressure and will use hydrogen to make helium using nuclear fusion. This fusions creates a tremendous amount of energy creating a fiery ball in space. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... A brown dwarf forms when a star fails to form. This is why brown dwarfs are often referred to as failed stars . When a star is forming it has to create enough fusion to generate enough energy. Brown dwarfs do not get large enough to be able to sustain nuclear fusion. These dwarfs are called brown because even though they do not shine brightly they still have little heat in their core to give it a small glow. After a brown dwarf has formed it will star in space with its glow of millions of years. White dwarfs are an effect of small star deaths. White dwarfs form when a star runs out of hydrogen to create energy with using nuclear fusion. The star s gravity takes over due to no energy pushing back. The star then becomes extremely dense forcing atoms together. The hot ball is then left in space to cool over billions of years. Discuss The Relationship Between The HRM And CSR Relationship 1) THE HRM CSR RELATIONSHIP The correlation between HRM and CSR has recently been acknowledged (Buciuniene Kazlauskaite, 2012; Pless et al., 2012) and while there are studies solely focusing on the role of HRM in developing CSR practices (ref) there have been other studies recognizing the two way relationship (ref). According to my understanding of the two distinct disciplines, the relationship can be studied from the CSR to HRM perspective which enables the development of HRM policies and practices under a moral and ethical lens, and from the HRM to CSR link which focuses on the roles of HRM in the development and implementation of CSR strategy. I believe that there are mutual beneficial aspects of constructing a two way HRM CSR relation, however this study will maintain a realistic approach and HRM has a stronger grasp in corporate affairs compered to CSR management. This is due to mainly two reasons: first, HRM has been widely developed in research since early 1920s being therefore more utilized within corporations while CSR is a concept taking momentum now and still broadly debated. Second, there is more evidence about HRM acting as a corporate facilitator to reach positive a profitable outcomes compered to CSR strategies which are still discussed among business and political parties. One reason may be that owls avoid predation because they share many of the same predators with black tailed prairie dogs and the presence of the prairie dogs helps to reduce predation. Another theory is that the burrowing owls live in active prairie dog colonies in order to listen to the prairie dogs for cues on when a predator is near. This behavior has been documented between other groups, usually mammals or reptiles responding to bird alarm calls. Behaviors that were considered to be alert behaviors included head turning, stretching to look up, vocalizing, and head bobbing. Relaxed behaviors included sleeping, preening, yawning, and foraging. This study evaluated napping characteristics and restrictions in valued activities participation among community dwelling older adults. In unadjusted models, we found an association between both intentional and unintentional napping and increased odds of restrictions in at least one valued activity, in comparison to rarely or never napping. While this association held after adjustment for demographic and health characteristics, there was no association between napping intention and restrictions in valued activities after further adjustment for depressive and anxiety symptoms when compared to rarely or never nappers. Among nappers, average nap duration and frequent napping were associated with restrictions in at least one valued activity, while napping intention was not.
