The Basilica Of Rome
QUINTUS OCTAVIUS exited his litter, having just traversed the winding streets and narrow avenues
of the Aventine, and hurried up the steps of the Basilica Julia. He had just concluded some business
for his client Lollius Capito, leasing out some empty warehouses to a Sicilian merchant, whilst selling
the deed of another to a vintner from Antium, liquidating some of Capito s vacant properties. It was
late afternoon and the Forum was bustling, for it was business as usual here in the great city of Rome;
Octavius scarcely arrived at the proposed hour of his appointment for all the pedestrian hubbub and
cart traffic afoot. Rome is ever the center of commerce and trade in the Empire, he thought wryly.
Alexandria is but a small time metropolis compared to our fabulous Eternal City! Octavius had other
important business to transact today, but under the roof and ample porticoes of the Basilica Julia, the
greatest courthouse in Rome. He strode into the Great Hall of the Basilica on his way to meet a friend,
another lawyer, and one who had some titillating information to relay. He politely pushed his way past
knots of loitering equestrians and toga clad patricians, making his way to the second floor where the
light streamed abundantly through the windows of the upper clerestory. It was there he was to meet an
old friend and former associate. Octavius found him amid an audience of very respectable men,
listening to the strong lunged orator pleading before one of the four tribunals

Poetry Analysis of Emily Dickinson Essay
Analysis of Emily Dickinson s The snake , In the Garden , and It bloomed and dropt, a Single Noon .
Emily Dickinson uses nature in almost all of her poetry. She uses many literary techniques in her
poems to show her interpretations of nature and the world around her. In the poem The snake she uses
imagery in the forms sight and touch. The poem describes the snake as transient or passing swiftly and
deceptive or misleading. His appearance is sudden. As the snake moves it divides the grass in one
place, and as he moves, in another. The speaker has been deluded by the snake s appearance. It
mistakes the snake for a whip or lash. This is a use of situational irony.
Emily also uses personification to give the snake human ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When saying, zero at the bone she is saying how the feeling penetrates to the bone and suggests how
deeply felt, and how intense the emotion is. By using these connotation at the end of her poem she
could be referring to death or dying, maybe from fear of the snake. This poem uses many symbols,
and specific word choice to show how danger may reveal itself in nature. After reading the poem the
tone can be seen as frightening or depressing because Emily takes the beauty of nature and shows that
there are sides to it that can be threatening and dangerous as well.
In another poem by Emily Dickinson entitled In the Garden she also uses lots of imagery about nature.
She uses sight and sound imagery to give the reader an idea of what the speaker is seeing and hearing.
Also, again she uses personification to give the bird human characteristics. Talking about the bird as it
came down the walk is an example of this. Emily uses symbols to give the bird human qualities. She
says that the bird bit an angle worm in halves/And ate the fellow, raw. Ironically the word raw shows
an implication of human values and practices. Why would you expect the bird to cook its food? Emily
then goes on to talk about the bird drinking dew From a convenient grass which can be symbolic of a
glass a human would drink from. The bird is then polite to a beetle by hopping sidewise to the wall.
This statement gives the bird a personality,

After normal fuction testing results have been verified, challenge tests (if any) will then be performed.
The validation report will include the steps taken in the procedure as well as hard copies showing both
the entry data and the calculated results. Choose data sets based on the number and types of criteria.
Each calculation/macro argument or condition, with its expected outcome, must be tested for accuracy.
5.3. Normal Function Testing
5.3.1. Prior to testing, spreadsheet will be protected or otherwise secured to prevent changes to the
application s calculations.
5.3.2. Data sets will be entered into the application to evaluate normal function testing. Data sets will
contain numbers covering the range of normal values.
5.3.3. The Validator will print the results and compare to previously calculated or known results. If the
application does not have the ability to print, screen captures may be collected and pasted into a
printable document.
5.3.4. A copy of previously calculated or known results will also be included as part of the Validation
Report.
5.3.5. In cases where unexpected output is generated, the spreadsheet developer must revise the
calculation or macro in question. This function is then revalidated. The process is repeated until the
calculation or macro works as expected.

Tough College Professors
We all have professors, the one that gives us a C average after busting our brain to write a five page
essay; one that gives challenging projects to complete or the one that gives you challenging math
problems. On the other hand, we got the one that gives easy tests. Some teachers a lenient with
grading, for instance, I had an English teacher that would give us only good grades when we write
longer papers. At its best to stay away from the easy professors because knowing the material and
understanding it is important. A world renowned professor at my college offers a class that all other
students say is the most insightful and brilliant on campus. However, the professor is a notoriously
hard grader. Even though the professor is a hard grader, understanding what I ve learnt would be more
beneficial regarding to my studies.
Tough college professors help us to improve and understand clearly what we learn. It s not all about
passing the class instead it s about learning the material and knowing how to implement it in our daily
lives. For instance, students tend to say that they re not going to use any of what they do in math in the
outside world, having not realize that they use math everyday. I had a math teacher that was so crazy

The Role Of The Air Defense Artillery In The Korean War
The Korean peninsula has had a long history of turmoil, miring the country in wars and disputes. Due
to growing tensions in the region around the mid 1900s, it would soon become necessary for America
to step in to assist in resolving the conflict. The Air Defense Artillery (ADA), or the Anti Aircraft
Artillery (AAA) during the Korean War, played a major role in supporting the war effort during the
Korean War. The AAA played an important role leading up to the war, during the war, and the lessons
learned from the war assisted in building the branch for the future. Field Artillery also known as The
King of Battle dates back as far as the birth of the United States Army itself. At the Battle of Bunker
Hill on June 1775, six artillery cannons stood and fought with much admiration. Due to poor
leadership, five of the six cannons were lost and could not partake in battle. Henry Knox, a former
bookseller, took over the artillery and created one of the most impressive and cohesive field artillery
units that the United States Army has seen today. The artillery guns consisted of a large bronze or iron
cannon, and a wooden frame connected with bolts wheeled on a carriage. In 1901, Field Artillery
divided into 126 companies of Coastal Artillery, also known as the Seacoast Artillery and light field
artillery. Air Defense took its first leap by using cannons from forts to shoot at invading ships. The
men needed to be highly skilled and trained rigorously in order to hit a

Building A New Start Up Site
The company I work for, Glass Etching Incorporated, has given me the task and opportunity to expand
their business by choosing the next location abroad for a new start up site. Glass Etching Incorporated
has been in business since August of 2003 and currently provides services within the United States.
The business was originally created in the home of its owners, Tom and Heidi Morgan. Tom and Heidi
started this business by selling their products online through various forms of social media websites
and buying and selling sites, such as EBay. The products offered by GEI include an array of glassware
items to choose from, in which, these items are then sand blasted (etched) with a specific illustrated
design, letters, and/or wording, chosen by the customer. These products are then expedited to the
customer. The company s mission is to provide high quality etched artwork and design on glassware.
Also, the company s purpose is to provide a one of a kind product for the customer, priced reasonably
and competitively and to have the business be solely conducted online by means of electronic
commerce. With the momentum of the company s progress, profit and popularity, the Morgan s
decided it was time to expand and attempt to grow their abroad. The United Kingdom is being
considered for the new export location. They are a higher ranking country, in terms of their economy
and the probability for a successful business start up is more likely. Major trade items in the United

Mxolisi
In Mother to Mother, the author Sindiwe Magona humanizes Mxolisi by challenging white supremacy
with perspective, realism and historicize to educate readers on the impacts of apartheid. Perspective is
defined as a visible scene; a view or prospect, esp. an extensive one (OED), and it gives an insight on
what black South Africans experience during apartheid. Realism is defined as a real fact, experience,
or situation (OED). This emphasizes the realities of the separation of powers between the whites and
the blacks. The definition of historicize is to make (a person or thing) historical or the subject of a
history; to situate in a historical context (OED). The history of apartheid impacts Mxolisi s life and
actions towards white South ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The use of imagery in this quote represents oppression, a system that is all around them and forced
into them. Magona use perspective to humanize the community of Guguletu even though blacks were
moved there against their will. The imagery of the community gives a sense of value, the people there,
a well knit community. Knowing each other: knowing all the children (33). This quote humanizes the
community, that the people in these townships are humans too and their lives are just as valuable.
Irony and perspective is used to humanized Mxolisi during his time in jail, I do not understand why it
is that the government is giving him so much now when it has given him nothing at all, all his life (3).
The irony of this quote is equivalent to the injustice black South Africans had to face from the day
they were born. Mxolisi was invisible before Amy s murder, now he is visible to the government
because it enforces the system of white supremacy. Mandisa s perspective of the conditions her son is
living in illustrates what apartheid is like for the whole community. Magona humanizes Mandisa as a
mother, with a mother s heart (3), she feels the hurt of Amy s mother as her own because she is a
human with emotions and sympathy. Mandisa s perspective on the death of Amy symbolizes the
humanism in her and her son, the way she feels sadness for the Biehls even though her own son killed
Amy, shows she is human. Magona uses realism to emphasize how the system

Mary Shelley s Life And Life
Mary Shelley, through all of her struggles, still manages to completely entrap the entire imagination,
and emotion of each individual member of her audience. Shelley, maiden name Godwin, was born on
the 30 of August, 1797. Shortly after giving birth to to her newborn child, Mary Wollstonecraft died of
an illness. September 10, 1797; Mary Wollstonecraft, mother to Mary Godwin, passed away, thus
leaving her children motherless. Both of Shelley s parents were well known as intellectual thinkers,
ahead of their times. This trait, was clearly passed on to Mary Shelley. Shelley also had a sister, Fanny
Imlay, who along with Shelley was raised by their father. Shelley s father, William Godwin,
encouraged both Mary and Fanny to read and write from a very early age. William, however, did
remarry after the loss of his wife. He knew he could not raise two girls by himself, so began searching
for a woman to be a mother figure for his children. Shelley had a confusing, mind riddling childhood,
mixed with an exciting, carefree adulthood that led to literary works unlike any other. Shelley truly is
a great author.
Not everyone is born into despair; however, Mary Shelley was undoubtedly born into more disparity
than any human should be forced to do. Ten days after birth, Shelley s mother dies, of a perpetual
fever. Mary Wollstonecraft was known throughout europe as an intellectual thinker above the rest. Her
literary works unpaired. After her mothers death, Shelley was raised by her

Whey Protein Research Paper
In the world of protein you will find that there are 4 primary types available with each having its own
unique set of benefits and problems. Below, I am going to discuss the different types and how they
should and shouldn t be used.
Whey Protein
Whey protein is by and large the most popular and arguably the best type of protein and/or supplement
on the market today. Often called the gold standard of protein, whey is a total protein meaning it
contains all of the necessary amino acids due to its Branched chain amino acids structure (BCAA s).
BCAA s are naturally occurring molecules (leucine, isoleucine, and valine) that the body uses to build
proteins. The term branched chain refers to the molecular structure of these particular amino ... Show

Studies have demonstrated that casein protein can sustain the body with a regular supply of amino
acids for at least seven hours, making casein the most anabolic protein, even more than whey. The
rationale behind this is really because casein forms a gel in acidic environments like the stomach, and
so releases a steady supply of amino acids into the bloodstream, permitting your body to remain
anabolic.
Since casein is kind of a slow digesting protein, consuming 30 50 grams before bed will stop
catabolism while you re asleep. You may also consume casein protein across the day, just never after a
workout. Post workout protein should be soaked up fast into the bloodstream, making casein a
particularly bad choice. Casein protein can be taken pre workout as well, but this would not be the
best use. A better pre workout shake would be to mix together a blend of casein and whey protein, thus
permitting you to drink it inside thirty minutes of your workout.
Milk contains over 80% casein protein, so mixing whey protein with milk will not only make your
shake taste better but it will give you a make shift time release formula, effective straight away and
sustaining for hours to come. Also, mixing your casein with milk before bed will ensure you stay anti
catabolic across the

Bettelle let him pursue his project and in 1970, after years of work, he succeeded in inventing the first
digital to optical recording and playback system, the CD.
A CD is a simple round piece of plastic about 4/100ths of an inch thick, and 12 centimeters in
diameter used for electronic recording, storing, and playback. Most of a CD consists of an injection

is impressed with microscopic bumps arranged as a single, continuous, extremely long spiral track of
data circling from the inside of the disc to the outside. Once the clear piece of polycarbonate is
formed, a thin, reflective aluminum layer is put onto the disc, covering the bumps. Then a thin acrylic
layer is sprayed over the aluminum to protect it, and the CD label is printed onto the acrylic. The
compact disc was first used for audio storage only, but are now used to store audio, video, text, and
any other information in digital form, and are able to hold 783 megabytes in all.
The CD works, because binary information is

Friar Lawrence Character Analysis
Even the best of intentions can have tragic ends: a lesson well portrayed by the holy friar of Verona. At
a first glance, one would consider Friar Lawrence only a minor influence in the tragedy of Romeo and
Juliet. However, he is much more significant to the development of the play. Friar Lawrence acts as a
catalyst to further sequence love and peace. He is without a doubt, a very complicated individual, and
it is his complex nature that makes him such an interesting character. In William Shakespeare s Romeo
and Juliet, Friar Lawrence is seen as a tragic hero because of his noble status, his good intentions, and
his naive fatal flaw
To begin, Friar Lawrence has a high position in his society. When he is first introduced in act 2, he ...

The significance of this quote lies in Capulet believing the friar s farfetched story. Therefore, because
of Friar Lawrence s role in society as well as the effects he has on others, he is definitely highly
respected.
Secondly, Friar Lawrence s intentions are always for the benefit of others. He helps his fellow citizens
when they are in despair, such as when Romeo arrives at the friar s cell crying himself to death. The
friar responds, Thou shalt live, till we can find a time to blaze your marriage, reconcile your friends,
beg pardon of the prince, and call thee back (3, 3, 150 152). Here, Friar Lawrence acts as a mentor to
Romeo, and uplifts his spirits by guiding him through the difficult times of banishment. Friar tells
Romeo what he wants to hear because he understands Romeo s boundless love for Juliet, and what
may happen as the consequence of forbidden love. Moreover, Friar Lawrence has noble intentions that
give himself no personal gain. When he agrees to marry Romeo and Juliet, he says, In one respect I ll
thy assistant be, for this alliance may so happy prove to turn your households rancor to pure love (2, 3,
90 92). Friar decides to marry the young lovers not only to help his friends, but because he believes it
will end the long bitter feud of Verona. He only cares about the wellbeing of the city and the safety of
the opposing families. Lastly, Friar Lawrence always assists his fellow citizens in their time of
desperation. When

Essay on Moral Luck
The case of moral luck was introduced by Williams Bernard and developed by Thomas Nagel in their
articles respectively. Both raised the question whether luck can influence the judgment of morality. In
this essay, the definition of moral luck and four kinds of moral luck by Williams and Nagel will be
discussed through several case examples, and then followed with some arguments from Judith Andre,
Donna Dickenson and David Enoch and Andrei Marmor who disagree with the concept of moral luck.
Let take a simple example from Nagel s paper to acquire a brief understanding on the idea of moral
luck. Driver A and B were both drunk when driving home. Drive A passed the red light and killed a
child who was passing the street while driver B got home ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The second type of luck, circumstantial, was described as luck in one s circumstances the kind of
problems and situations one faces , (Nagel, p.28). The drunken drivers example belongs to the third
type of luck: resultant luck. To many philosophers, the third and fourth type of luck is accountable for
one which deals with the causes and effects of action, as Nagel explains, luck in how one is
determined by antecedent circumstances, and luck in the way one s action and projects turn out. ,
(Nagel, p.28). The commonality of these four categories of luck is the idea that one cannot be more
culpable or estimable for anything than one is for that fraction of it which is under one s control. It
seems irrational to take or dispense credit or blame for matters over which a person has no control, or
for their influence on results over which he has partial control. (Nagel, p.28).
Williams also delivers the idea of agent regret which, to him, matters to the person in the unlucky case
more than any extrinsic moral judgments. Agent regret is defined as thought being formed in part by
first personal conceptions of how one might have acted otherwise , (Williams, p.27), and required a
first personal subject matter and not yet merely a particular kind of psychological content, but also a
particular kind of expression , (Williams, 27). Hence, even if the driver A is morally treated as equal as
driver B, the agent regret of guilt may follow him to the

On his pursuit he meets a blue fish named Dori, who has a memory problem. She undoubtedly is

his better judgment he agrees to let her help him find his lost son. For the next few days, as the movie
goes, they have several encounters with other marine wildlife that according to Marlin are dangerous.
First they encounter three sharks which are known to be solely meat eaters but they join the sharks and
spend some time with them that show them that not all sharks are that way but some feel that fish
should be thought of as friends, not food as the sharks like to say. With this knowledge he begins to
trust more of the other sea creatures that he did before.
His next encounter involves a school of jellyfish which descend down upon them while they are going

Religion In The Pardoner s Tale
Throughout The Canterbury Tales religious figures are represented with character traits that are
completely different from what would be traditionally expected. One main cause behind this was
because Europe was ruled, mostly, by the Catholic Church which caused many people to suffer from
poverty and wealth while the church was building extravagant cathedrals. The overwhelming
difference between the suffering of the people and the wealth of the church caused Chaucer to show
many of his characters as deceitful and greedy. Multiple examples of this can be found throughout The
Canterbury Tales like; the Summoner from the The Friar s Tale and Death from the The Pardoner s
Tale.
During Chaucer s life a summoner was a church official who would bring people that have been
accused of violating the laws set by the church to court, which was also set up by the church. In The
Friar s Tale there is a deceitful summoner who pressures people into giving bribing him, so they won t
have to go to court, by using his position in the church. In order to accomplish this the summoner has
a network of spies that will report to him in order for him to be able to issue the summons for court

is trying to convey, through the pardoner, that traits such as greed and corruption are going to lead to
death. Ironically the Pardoner also embodies all of these traits because towards the end of the tale he
tries to get people to buy his relics in order to make a quick buck, which shows that another church

Instagram Is A Negative Impact On The Youth Culture
Demi Lovato stated People say sticks and stones may break your bones, but names can never hurt you,
but that s not true. Words can hurt. They hurt me. Things were said to me that I still haven t forgotten.
Given this point, I believe Instagram is a negative impact on the youth culture because it created
virtual bullying and a disillusioned self image meaning lowering one s self esteem how someone s
appearance supposed to be. Thus, I believe as a previous instagramer one shouldn t indulge in the
social media world if they re not self confident or aware of their own self.
Bullying begins inside the school because my beginning stages of being bullied began in the 4th
grade. At that time, I attended a private school which was majority whites and I was the only little
black girl in my class, we all knew each other since pre school but as we aged the one s I had as
friends disappeared into their own group of peers, so I was left alone. Since, I felt like I wasn t fitting
in and lost the friends I once had I decided to transfer over to a majority African American public
school in the 6th grade which was actually worse than being alienated at the private school. My
assumption on being around peers who were the same race was a mistake because although I felt
alienated at my other school, once I transferred over in the 5th grade I literally transferred to a school
from hell. Students started to bully me because of how proper I spoken. For example, They would
tease me because of my

Analytic Hierarchy Process And Analytic Network Process
2.3.2 MCDA Models Related to Thesis Analytic Hierarchy Process and Analytic Network Process
There are different methods to solve multi criteria decision making problems. Analytic Hierarchy
Process (AHP) and Analytic Network Process (ANP) are two methods introduced by Tomas Saaty.
AHP tries to solve the decision problem by modeling it in a hierarchy while ANP is used when the
problem is so complex that cannot be modeled as a hierarchy. This complexity occurs because of the
effect of criteria on each other or the effect of alternatives on criteria. The Analytic Network Process is
a generalization of the Analytic Hierarchy Process. ANP approach comprises four steps [87]:
Step 1: Model construction and problem structuring: The problem should be stated clearly and
decomposed into a rational system like a network
Step 2: Pairwise comparisons and priority vectors: In ANP, like AHP, pairs of decision elements at
each cluster are compared with respect to their importance towards their control criteria. In addition,
interdependencies among criteria of a cluster must also be examined pairwise; the influence of each
element on other elements can be represented by an eigenvector. The relative importance values are
determined with Saaty s scale.
Step 3: Supermatrix formation: The Supermatrix concept is similar to the Markov chain process. To
obtain global priorities in a system with interdependent influences, the local priority vectors are
entered in the appropriate columns of a

Exploring The Relationship Between Age And Patriotism Levels
Patriotism is something every countries citizens pride. Many people claim to be patriotic or have a self
professed love of country. However, the question that I will answer during this paper is whether there
is a relationship between age and patriotism levels. While there may be other variables such as
political party, race, or gender, I will be focusing on whether there is a relationship between different
generations and their patriotism. It seems that while there may be other factors contributing to
patriotism towards ones country the largest determining factor is age. According to the New York
Times, There are small differences in levels of patriotism across political parties, between men and
women, and among racial groups, but these patterns ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The definition of patriotism is, devoted love, support, and defense of one s country; national loyalty.
The question about whether patriotism is different between ages is important because patriotism is
what motivates us to participate in our civic duties. If young people have less love for their country
that means they feel that their government is ultimately less legitimate. The government gains its
power from the people, if the people do not love their country then the government has no power.
Further, if there is a relationship between patriotism and age that could point to different feelings each
generation has for the country. Also, if there isn t any difference between different ages and patriotism
that would suggest that each age group has the same level of love for their country and would further
suggest that

No matter what someone is always responsible for equipment in the Army. It goes to the highest
officer to the lowest enlisted personal in the chain of command and back up again. Like in combat
when there is a code Red the soldier knows that at a given and safe time he or she should get to the
rally point, predestined by his or her chain of command, that way he or she and his or her equipment
can be accounted for. Knowing if something or someone is missing you could easy look at the

appropriate place of duty at the correct time is a part of being dependable and reliable, respectable
soldier. Being at the right place at the right time is particularly important, reason being is to make
certain orders are carried out and to ensure a steady opt tempo. When a soldier is late or perhaps does
not report at all to a place at the time ordered. That effectively compromises and diminishes the
efficiency of which the task is to be completed. A Soldier s consistency begins with his ability and
discipline for being where he is ordered to be when he is ordered to be there. As simple as this task
sounds it is often times the most difficult to achieve one hundred percent efficiency. Once again
discipline comes into play as a major contributing factor, as well as infinite variables as one might

The Complex Character of the Merchant in The Canterbury Tales
Sometimes a character is not fully revealed right away in order to surprise and convey a specific
purpose later on. Chaucer demonstrates this idea in The Canterbury Tales, specifically with the
Merchant character. In the General Prologue, Chaucer portrays the Merchant as a respectable
character; however, he hints aspects of the Merchants personality that question this respectable image.
The Merchant s entire personality is later revealed in his Prologue and Tale, as it is made evident of
his cynical and pessimistic outlook, making him less respectful. In this novel, the Merchant is
categorized as a salesman and trader who imports and exports wholesale goods from several countries.
Toward the end of the 14th century, merchants had an ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This aspect is important for the Merchant s personality, as it further questions his true character,
suggesting dishonestly. He is only revealed acting professionally, talking only of business, and
showing little of his true self. The General Prologue includes a substantial amount of information
regarding the Merchant s appearance and forced personality (due to his job and pride), but his own
prologue and tale reveals more personal traits and thoughts, creating a more complex, but less
respectable character. The General Prologue does not include the personal problems he is facing, as
introducing a completely different character is more surprising and unexpected to the reader (Brown
141). The Merchant s unhappiness and cynical view of marriage is introduced in his Prologue and
emphasized in his Tale and Epilogue, as he attempts to inform others how marriage is extremely
difficult. It is evident that the Merchant is having an emotional crisis (Kittredge 450), especially after
the Clerk s tale about a patient wife. The Merchant finally reveals his true character, as he explains his
unhappiness with his new marriage, which has only lasted two months so far, and the Prologue and
tale are joined by a common pattern of imagery in which the language of binding, tapping, and
imprisonment describes the effect of marriage on the once free spirit of the husband (Brown 144).
Thus, the irony

Geraldine Brooks s Reading The Secret Chord A Novel
The Secret Chord Reading The Secret Chord A Novel by Geraldine Brooks was like reading about the
biblical character King David for the first time. Author Ms. Brooks brought King David s character to
life. As I read, I hardly realized that the novel is over five hundred pages. Brooks carefully built upon
the biblical story of David. What I appreciate is that Brooks did not omit information rather she
expanded on the facts colorfully and creatively. Some of the expansion is based on theory. However,
the majority of the story aligns with biblical and historical chronology. For example, the story expands
on David s childhood relationship with his paternal and maternal caregivers.
The story interestingly describes King David as a talented musician among his many talents. King
David s musical ability had the power to soothe the savage, unite his offspring, and bring healing and
unity to two split nations. David s instrument of choice was a harp, that was a part of his existence.
Geraldine enlightens us to how beautifully David played the harp; she says if the harp where a loom
the notes he drew from it a bright thread forming a splendid pattern . . . He played this way often, even
interrupting meetings with his generals . . . He said that music its order and precision helped him find
the patterns in things the way through the confusion of events and opinions to the direction to order,
and beyond inspiration (Brooks 40).The text even says you could read his mind through his

Major Differences In The Movie 300
THIS IS SPARTA a famous quote from the movie 300 (2006) about the ferocious battles of the Greco
Persian wars across the western Mediterranean. Persia was the dominant empire of this time because
of conquering and expanding borders. They had the largest army of the time with around 700,000
800,000 soldiers. Sparta on the other hand was a smaller still powerful city state with highly trained
Military personnel. I think there are many minor differences that alter and change the way you see the
battle. Some of those minor changes in the movie not in the real battle are the Persians used rhinos and
elephants to ride into battle, Xerxes does not go into battle as seen in the movie and the Spartans did
not fight with any armor unlike the real battle. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Within the mighty Persian empire they never had any animals used for combat. During the hiding in
the shade scene, it showed the Persian archers shooting of what looks to be one million plus arrows
which is a huge overstatement because for one there was never that many arrows to block out the sun,
and second the wooden arrows would not stick in the metal shields the Spartans held. Another minor
difference within the battle was in the movie it showed Xerxes in the front lines of the battle. In the
movie Xerxes Talked to Leonidas and even reasoned for him to be warlord of Sparta and obviously
Leonidas refused. In reality Xerxes was far behind enemy lines where he couldn t get a spear in the
cheek. Xerxes was also never that tall or never wore those clothes he was much shorter, fatter and
wore fine silk clothes. Last minor difference was in the movie the Spartan soldiers were almost naked
when going into battle. Actual spartan soldiers were covered head to toe in metal armor and never
took their helmets off during combat. Also the Immortals looked like scream with a chrome face the
real ones looked like normal soldiers just with heavier

Klein s Influence On Children And Young Essay
In terms of biological drives, Klein believed drives were aimed toward objects, such as an infant
seeking milk from a mother s breast. The object s in an infant s world, especially during the first few
months of life are essentially good or bad. Thus, if the child receives milk, the breast is good, if not, it
is bad. Klein posits that the objects within one s world as an infant consist of gratification and
hostility. In addition to drives, infants are focused on the internal object, which is more of a fantasy
than an object based in reality, as the infant struggles to know the difference at this point in life. These
fantasies are representations of bodily instincts and urges that the infant can feel physically and
mentally. Thus in the case of the bad breast , the infant is frustrated and feels discomfort due to not
receiving the milk, and this is interpreted by the infant as if he or she was being attacked by a hostile
force. As the child develops, he or she begins to understand the good and bad breast are one in ...

She concludes that the superego is present at birth and the Oedipal complex occurs during the first
year of life as well. Klein theorized that the ego and superego continue based on functions the
caregiver performed for the child. She notes that the good breast is the main point allowing the ego to
develop, similar to the good enough mother posed by Winnicott. Klein notes that life and death
instinct are deflected onto an external object which is often the breast, either satisfying or frustrating.
Thus the breast is the object allowing the child to begin the development of the ego. The superego
stems from an infant s views of his or her parents, thus they are not accurate representations but based
on the infant s feelings and fantasies that lead to superego

Summary Of Chronic Illness By Liz Shaw-Stabler
Patient doctor relationships may be strained and antagonistic for those with lupus. This is because the
physician s experience varies from the lived experience by the patients. It is common for patients with
chronic diseases to struggle to appear as credible patients to their physicians, thus, patients with lupus
may use different strategies to receive treatment for their undiagnosed chronic pain (Class notes:
Chronic Illness ppt, 2016). Patients with lupus may experience a power differential with their
physicians because of their medical knowledge. Most patient doctor relationships of those with
chronic illnesses are mutual. This is when the physician offers advice and technical information but

Shaw Stabler has battled systematic lupus for several years, enduring serious side effects, such as
kidney failure, along the way. In her narrative, Live with the Wolf and Surviving Lupus, she provides
optimistic views to patients struggling with lupus. She does this by encouraging lupus patients to keep
the faith and continue the fight, (Shaw Stabler, 2010 14). She goes onto explain that communication
with one s body is key when dealing with a chronic diseases such as lupus. This is because you can
only take action once you know what your body is trying to communicate with you. For Shaw Stabler,
she began to listen to her body is 1978. This is when she discovered that she had lupus. The author
acknowledges the fact that having lupus is hard; Too often our disabilities are invisible, and in our
culture, if one isn t missing a limb or an eye or even bleeding visibly, they are not seen as being
disabled, (Shaw Stabler, 2010 16). This maintains the notion that those with chronic diseases do not fit
the sick role clearly. The sick role is defined as social expectations regarding how society should view
sick people and how sick people should behave (Class notes: Social Meanings of Illness ppt

getting the Comprehensive Social Security Assistance (CSSA) from the Hong Kong government is the
one which really change my life. It effects my life in both positive and negative ways. As its name
implies, CSSA is a scheme to help the underclass and working poor. Under the scheme, the CSSA
recipients will get certain amount of payment from the government monthly. The amount varies based
on the age, household size and the health of the recipients. There are also supplement such as the
single parent Supplement and the residential care supplement to those in need. My family have
received the assistance since I was 8 years old. Before that, my father was an unlicensed itinerant
hawker who sold clothes in the streets as the government do not grant hawker licenses since 1970s.
My father went to work every early, at 3 am. Thus every time I woke up, he has gone. Being an
unlicensed hawker is tough in Hong Kong, they need to worry about if there are customers. However,
the most important thing is to avoid the hawker control teams. If they are found unlicensed by the
team, they will be sent to the court and fined. Moreover, all of their goods will be confiscated. The
income of my family was unstable at that time. It depends on whether my father was lucky or not. If

The Importance of Memory in Margaret Atwood s Handmaid s...
For this essay I aim to show the importance of memory and of remembering the past in The Handmaid
s Tale by Margaret Atwood. The Handmaid s Tale is a speculative fiction first published in 1985 but
set in the early 2000s. The novel was in response to changes in US politics with the emergence of
Christian fundamentalism, the New Right. Atwood believed that society was going wrong and wrote
this savage satire, similar to Jonathan Swift s A Modest Proposal , depicting a dystopia which she uses
as a mirror to hold up to society. I will be focusing on the main character and narrator, Offred, a
handmaid who mingles memories of her life before the revolution with her rebellious activities under
the new regime (book group corner), as she ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She forgets where she is and remembers her past life as a waitress. The line between fantasizing about
the past and the harsh reality of her new life breaks down. She smiles blankly at the other Handmaids
and asks them how they are doing. She had a lapse similar to this at the Red Centre where Handmaids
were taught how to act in this new regime. Janine s mental state was frail to begin with and her
automatic reaction to scenes of brutality or stress set off her memories of her previous life. Janine s
breakdown shows how memories affect us. Janine cannot handle the deprivation she is now faced with
compared to the freedoms of her past.
There is a strong link between memories and hope. Raffaela Baccolini discusses this link in her article
The Persistence of Hope in Dystopian Science Fiction. She says that Utopia is maintained in dystopia,
traditionally a bleak, depressing genre with no space for hope in the story, only outside the story.
Offred does not have much, if anything, to stimulate herself with mentally. She is in a bare room with
shatterproof glass that has been made safe to prevent her from committing suicide. Her only escape is
her mind which harbours her memories. She has no hope in her story, which is her life, but she does

The Nature Of Elizabethan Acting
ARTICLE 1
Elizabethan Acting Author(s): Alfred Harbage Source: PMLA, Vol. 54, No. 3 (Sep. 1939), pp. 685 708
The debate over the nature of acting during Shakespeare s time has been there for a long time. As
early as the 1950s there were speculations already of what took place on Elizabethan stages. What was
the nature of Elizabethan acting? There was the controversial discussion that divided people into two
schools of thought; the formalist and the naturalist. The naturalists argue that those early days were
characterized by acting that was natural. Formalist has contrasting views that Elizabethan acting was
formal. A compromise is that Elizabethan acting was a mixture of both formal and naturalism.
However, Alfred Harbage argues acting was either natural or formal. To determine which style to look
at, he defined and gave examples of the two different styles of acting. He argues that whether acting is
formal or natural, actors must create reality. Acting had to be perfected and their presentation never
changed even with time. Harbage argues that acting may be natural to one audience but the same
could be formal to another audience, that one was a logical alternative to the other. Alfred Harbage
wrote that there are no explicit differences in two styles of acting and the two could have been present
in the Elizabethan period.
He argues that Natural acting strives to create an illusion of reality by consistency on the part of the
actor who remains in character and tends

Examples Of Allegory In The Crucible
Purification The Crucible, a phenomenal play, written by Arthur Miller is an allegory to the McCarthy
Trials of the 1950s. An allegory is a story with two levels of meaning literal and symbolic. In an
allegory the character, events, and instances( Definition of Allegory R104). Characters like John
Proctor, Abigail William and Hathorne represent Arthur Miller, Joseph McCarthy, and J.Edgar Hoover.
Events like the people who were hanged, and people were accused of being witches were similar to
blacklisted and they blamed for being communist. Instances were, when Procter s wife was pregnant,
and Danforth made people choose a side were in comparison to Francis Walter s wife took a photo
with his finance and the communist hide their beliefs. Miller wrote The Crucible as an allegory to
show morality within a society that will accept others, to teach paranoia results in trauma and to
criticize the government way of causing unnecessary fear. In the allegory several characters represent
real people, for example, John Proctor is symbolic to Arthur Miller. Therefore, both were convicted of
serious crimes against society. John Proctor was honest about innocence before the court accused him.
(Miller 198). On the other hand, Arthur Miller was called before the HUAC and was asked to give
information on communist activities( Navasky 219). These men are seen as noble because they would
not bend to the corrupt courts, but provided truthfulness. In Miller s case, he admitted to attending

A Modest Proposal On Satire
Satire is a specific classification of writing that occasionally makes utilization of realistic and
performing expressions with the aim of scorning society into self change. With social criticism being
its fundamental objective, it uses dark sarcasm as its primary device to get the point across. Satire
impacts people to reconsider themselves so as to alter senseless thoughts and behaviors. Different
techniques are utilized in delivering the satirical impact, those of which use wit as their primary
weapon. These methodologies mix the acing of matching unimportant and authentic matters as one
joke, demonstrating compliment yet meaning the contrary to show ambiguity, and asking rhetorical
questions. Moreover, the creator may downplay an issue keeping in mind the end goal to move the
group of audience towards the genuine significance of the theme, antagonistically; distortion is
utilized to bring down the effect of an issue to its lesser quality. Aggregately, these procedures are
practiced to draw out the human follies and vices in society. In Molière s Tartuffe and Jonathan Swift s
article A Modest Proposal, both diagonally condemn and criticize human conduct and the discernment
we have towards others. Through a comedian conveyance, these creators offer an understanding past
the apparently self evident, and expect to enhance this flawed custom of one sidedness as opposed to
disposing of it.

The Reign Of Elizabeth I
The reign of Elizabeth I is often thought of as a Golden Age. It was a time of extravagance and luxury
in which a flourishing popular culture was expressed through writers such as Shakespeare, and
explorers like Drake and Raleigh sought to expand England s territory overseas. This sense of well
being was embodied by Queen Elizabeth who liked to wear sumptuous costumes and jewellery, and be
entertained in style at her court. But life in Tudor England did not always reflect such splendour. The
sixteenth century was also a time when the poor became poorer, books and opinions were censored,
and plots to overthrow the Queen were rife. Elizabeth s ministers had to employ spies and even use
torture to gain information about threats to her life. In 1558 the Protestant preacher John Knox wrote,
It is more than a monster in nature that a woman should reign and bear empire over man. So was he
right? Were women fit to rule the country? The people had lived through the unpopular reign of Mary
I, known as Bloody Mary for her merciless persecution of Protestants. Lady Jane Grey was Queen for
only a matter of days before being toppled and eventually executed. And Mary Queen of Scots made a
series of ill judged decisions which led her to the executioner s block in 1587. Elizabeth could be as
ruthless and calculating as any King before her. Elizabeth was a different kind of Queen: quick witted,
clever and able to use feminine wiles to get her own way. Elizabeth could be as

Causes Of Generalized Anxiety Disorders
Anxiety disorders are the most common mental illness in the U.S., affecting 40 million adults in the
United States age 18 and older, or 18% of the population. (National Institute of Mental Health).
Anxiety is the Central Nervous System s response to a sense of threat or danger. For those that feel an
anxiety attack or episode, it triggers a Fight or Flight response. When we are in danger, this response
is very helpful to help us get out of the situation. Unfortunately for those with Anxiety, this response
can be triggered at things much smaller than a life or death situation. Although most people will feel

  • 3. The Basilica Of Rome QUINTUS OCTAVIUS exited his litter, having just traversed the winding streets and narrow avenues of the Aventine, and hurried up the steps of the Basilica Julia. He had just concluded some business for his client Lollius Capito, leasing out some empty warehouses to a Sicilian merchant, whilst selling the deed of another to a vintner from Antium, liquidating some of Capito s vacant properties. It was late afternoon and the Forum was bustling, for it was business as usual here in the great city of Rome; Octavius scarcely arrived at the proposed hour of his appointment for all the pedestrian hubbub and cart traffic afoot. Rome is ever the center of commerce and trade in the Empire, he thought wryly. Alexandria is but a small time metropolis compared to our fabulous Eternal City! Octavius had other important business to transact today, but under the roof and ample porticoes of the Basilica Julia, the greatest courthouse in Rome. He strode into the Great Hall of the Basilica on his way to meet a friend, another lawyer, and one who had some titillating information to relay. He politely pushed his way past knots of loitering equestrians and toga clad patricians, making his way to the second floor where the light streamed abundantly through the windows of the upper clerestory. It was there he was to meet an old friend and former associate. Octavius found him amid an audience of very respectable men, listening to the strong lunged orator pleading before one of the four tribunals ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Poetry Analysis of Emily Dickinson Essay Analysis of Emily Dickinson s The snake , In the Garden , and It bloomed and dropt, a Single Noon . Emily Dickinson uses nature in almost all of her poetry. She uses many literary techniques in her poems to show her interpretations of nature and the world around her. In the poem The snake she uses imagery in the forms sight and touch. The poem describes the snake as transient or passing swiftly and deceptive or misleading. His appearance is sudden. As the snake moves it divides the grass in one place, and as he moves, in another. The speaker has been deluded by the snake s appearance. It mistakes the snake for a whip or lash. This is a use of situational irony. Emily also uses personification to give the snake human ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When saying, zero at the bone she is saying how the feeling penetrates to the bone and suggests how deeply felt, and how intense the emotion is. By using these connotation at the end of her poem she could be referring to death or dying, maybe from fear of the snake. This poem uses many symbols, and specific word choice to show how danger may reveal itself in nature. After reading the poem the tone can be seen as frightening or depressing because Emily takes the beauty of nature and shows that there are sides to it that can be threatening and dangerous as well. In another poem by Emily Dickinson entitled In the Garden she also uses lots of imagery about nature. She uses sight and sound imagery to give the reader an idea of what the speaker is seeing and hearing. Also, again she uses personification to give the bird human characteristics. Talking about the bird as it came down the walk is an example of this. Emily uses symbols to give the bird human qualities. She says that the bird bit an angle worm in halves/And ate the fellow, raw. Ironically the word raw shows an implication of human values and practices. Why would you expect the bird to cook its food? Emily then goes on to talk about the bird drinking dew From a convenient grass which can be symbolic of a glass a human would drink from. The bird is then polite to a beetle by hopping sidewise to the wall. This statement gives the bird a personality, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Tough College Professors We all have professors, the one that gives us a C average after busting our brain to write a five page essay; one that gives challenging projects to complete or the one that gives you challenging math problems. On the other hand, we got the one that gives easy tests. Some teachers a lenient with grading, for instance, I had an English teacher that would give us only good grades when we write longer papers. At its best to stay away from the easy professors because knowing the material and understanding it is important. A world renowned professor at my college offers a class that all other students say is the most insightful and brilliant on campus. However, the professor is a notoriously hard grader. Even though the professor is a hard grader, understanding what I ve learnt would be more beneficial regarding to my studies. Tough college professors help us to improve and understand clearly what we learn. It s not all about passing the class instead it s about learning the material and knowing how to implement it in our daily lives. • 9. The Role Of The Air Defense Artillery In The Korean War The Korean peninsula has had a long history of turmoil, miring the country in wars and disputes. Due to growing tensions in the region around the mid 1900s, it would soon become necessary for America to step in to assist in resolving the conflict. The Air Defense Artillery (ADA), or the Anti Aircraft Artillery (AAA) during the Korean War, played a major role in supporting the war effort during the Korean War. The AAA played an important role leading up to the war, during the war, and the lessons learned from the war assisted in building the branch for the future. Field Artillery also known as The King of Battle dates back as far as the birth of the United States Army itself. At the Battle of Bunker Hill on June 1775, six artillery cannons stood and fought with much admiration. Due to poor leadership, five of the six cannons were lost and could not partake in battle. Henry Knox, a former bookseller, took over the artillery and created one of the most impressive and cohesive field artillery units that the United States Army has seen today. The artillery guns consisted of a large bronze or iron cannon, and a wooden frame connected with bolts wheeled on a carriage. In 1901, Field Artillery divided into 126 companies of Coastal Artillery, also known as the Seacoast Artillery and light field artillery. Air Defense took its first leap by using cannons from forts to shoot at invading ships. The men needed to be highly skilled and trained rigorously in order to hit a ... Building A New Start Up Site The company I work for, Glass Etching Incorporated, has given me the task and opportunity to expand their business by choosing the next location abroad for a new start up site. Glass Etching Incorporated has been in business since August of 2003 and currently provides services within the United States. The business was originally created in the home of its owners, Tom and Heidi Morgan. Tom and Heidi started this business by selling their products online through various forms of social media websites and buying and selling sites, such as EBay. The products offered by GEI include an array of glassware items to choose from, in which, these items are then sand blasted (etched) with a specific illustrated design, letters, and/or wording, chosen by the customer. These products are then expedited to the customer. The company s mission is to provide high quality etched artwork and design on glassware. Also, the company s purpose is to provide a one of a kind product for the customer, priced reasonably and competitively and to have the business be solely conducted online by means of electronic commerce. With the momentum of the company s progress, profit and popularity, the Morgan s decided it was time to expand and attempt to grow their abroad. • 11. Mxolisi In Mother to Mother, the author Sindiwe Magona humanizes Mxolisi by challenging white supremacy with perspective, realism and historicize to educate readers on the impacts of apartheid. Perspective is defined as a visible scene; a view or prospect, esp. an extensive one (OED), and it gives an insight on what black South Africans experience during apartheid. Realism is defined as a real fact, experience, or situation (OED). This emphasizes the realities of the separation of powers between the whites and the blacks. The definition of historicize is to make (a person or thing) historical or the subject of a history; to situate in a historical context (OED). The use of imagery in this quote represents oppression, a system that is all around them and forced into them. Magona use perspective to humanize the community of Guguletu even though blacks were moved there against their will. The imagery of the community gives a sense of value, the people there, a well knit community. Knowing each other: knowing all the children (33). This quote humanizes the community, that the people in these townships are humans too and their lives are just as valuable. Irony and perspective is used to humanized Mxolisi during his time in jail, I do not understand why it is that the government is giving him so much now when it has given him nothing at all, all his life (3). The irony of this quote is equivalent to the injustice black South Africans had to face from the day they were born. Mxolisi was invisible before Amy s murder, now he is visible to the government because it enforces the system of white supremacy. Mandisa s perspective of the conditions her son is living in illustrates what apartheid is like for the whole community. Magona humanizes Mandisa as a mother, with a mother s heart (3), she feels the hurt of Amy s mother as her own because she is a human with emotions and sympathy. Mandisa s perspective on the death of Amy symbolizes the humanism in her and her son, the way she feels sadness for the Biehls even though her own son killed Amy, shows she is human. • 12. Mary Shelley s Life And Life Mary Shelley, through all of her struggles, still manages to completely entrap the entire imagination, and emotion of each individual member of her audience. Shelley, maiden name Godwin, was born on the 30 of August, 1797. Shortly after giving birth to to her newborn child, Mary Wollstonecraft died of an illness. September 10, 1797; Mary Wollstonecraft, mother to Mary Godwin, passed away, thus leaving her children motherless. Both of Shelley s parents were well known as intellectual thinkers, ahead of their times. This trait, was clearly passed on to Mary Shelley. Shelley also had a sister, Fanny Imlay, who along with Shelley was raised by their father. Shelley s father, William Godwin, encouraged both Mary and Fanny to read and write from a very early age. William, however, did remarry after the loss of his wife. He knew he could not raise two girls by himself, so began searching for a woman to be a mother figure for his children. Shelley had a confusing, mind riddling childhood, mixed with an exciting, carefree adulthood that led to literary works unlike any other. Shelley truly is a great author. Not everyone is born into despair; however, Mary Shelley was undoubtedly born into more disparity than any human should be forced to do. Ten days after birth, Shelley s mother dies, of a perpetual fever. Mary Wollstonecraft was known throughout europe as an intellectual thinker above the rest. Her literary works unpaired. • 13. Whey Protein Research Paper In the world of protein you will find that there are 4 primary types available with each having its own unique set of benefits and problems. Below, I am going to discuss the different types and how they should and shouldn t be used. Whey Protein Whey protein is by and large the most popular and arguably the best type of protein and/or supplement on the market today. Often called the gold standard of protein, whey is a total protein meaning it contains all of the necessary amino acids due to its Branched chain amino acids structure (BCAA s). BCAA s are naturally occurring molecules (leucine, isoleucine, and valine) that the body uses to build proteins. The term branched chain refers to the molecular structure of these particular amino ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Studies have demonstrated that casein protein can sustain the body with a regular supply of amino acids for at least seven hours, making casein the most anabolic protein, even more than whey. The rationale behind this is really because casein forms a gel in acidic environments like the stomach, and so releases a steady supply of amino acids into the bloodstream, permitting your body to remain anabolic. Since casein is kind of a slow digesting protein, consuming 30 50 grams before bed will stop catabolism while you re asleep. You may also consume casein protein across the day, just never after a workout. Post workout protein should be soaked up fast into the bloodstream, making casein a particularly bad choice. Casein protein can be taken pre workout as well, but this would not be the best use. A better pre workout shake would be to mix together a blend of casein and whey protein, thus permitting you to drink it inside thirty minutes of your workout. Milk contains over 80% casein protein, so mixing whey protein with milk will not only make your shake taste better but it will give you a make shift time release formula, effective straight away and sustaining for hours to come. Also, mixing your casein with milk before bed will ensure you stay anti catabolic across the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 15. Friar Lawrence Character Analysis Even the best of intentions can have tragic ends: a lesson well portrayed by the holy friar of Verona. At a first glance, one would consider Friar Lawrence only a minor influence in the tragedy of Romeo and Juliet. However, he is much more significant to the development of the play. Friar Lawrence acts as a catalyst to further sequence love and peace. He is without a doubt, a very complicated individual, and it is his complex nature that makes him such an interesting character. Therefore, because of Friar Lawrence s role in society as well as the effects he has on others, he is definitely highly respected. Secondly, Friar Lawrence s intentions are always for the benefit of others. He helps his fellow citizens when they are in despair, such as when Romeo arrives at the friar s cell crying himself to death. The friar responds, Thou shalt live, till we can find a time to blaze your marriage, reconcile your friends, beg pardon of the prince, and call thee back (3, 3, 150 152). Here, Friar Lawrence acts as a mentor to Romeo, and uplifts his spirits by guiding him through the difficult times of banishment. Friar tells Romeo what he wants to hear because he understands Romeo s boundless love for Juliet, and what may happen as the consequence of forbidden love. Moreover, Friar Lawrence has noble intentions that give himself no personal gain. When he agrees to marry Romeo and Juliet, he says, In one respect I ll thy assistant be, for this alliance may so happy prove to turn your households rancor to pure love (2, 3, 90 92). Friar decides to marry the young lovers not only to help his friends, but because he believes it will end the long bitter feud of Verona. He only cares about the wellbeing of the city and the safety of the opposing families. Lastly, Friar Lawrence always assists his fellow citizens in their time of desperation. When ... • 16. Essay on Moral Luck The case of moral luck was introduced by Williams Bernard and developed by Thomas Nagel in their articles respectively. Both raised the question whether luck can influence the judgment of morality. In this essay, the definition of moral luck and four kinds of moral luck by Williams and Nagel will be discussed through several case examples, and then followed with some arguments from Judith Andre, Donna Dickenson and David Enoch and Andrei Marmor who disagree with the concept of moral luck. Let take a simple example from Nagel s paper to acquire a brief understanding on the idea of moral luck. Driver A and B were both drunk when driving home. The second type of luck, circumstantial, was described as luck in one s circumstances the kind of problems and situations one faces , (Nagel, p.28). The drunken drivers example belongs to the third type of luck: resultant luck. To many philosophers, the third and fourth type of luck is accountable for one which deals with the causes and effects of action, as Nagel explains, luck in how one is determined by antecedent circumstances, and luck in the way one s action and projects turn out. , (Nagel, p.28). The commonality of these four categories of luck is the idea that one cannot be more culpable or estimable for anything than one is for that fraction of it which is under one s control. It seems irrational to take or dispense credit or blame for matters over which a person has no control, or for their influence on results over which he has partial control. (Nagel, p.28). Williams also delivers the idea of agent regret which, to him, matters to the person in the unlucky case more than any extrinsic moral judgments. Agent regret is defined as thought being formed in part by first personal conceptions of how one might have acted otherwise , (Williams, p.27), and required a first personal subject matter and not yet merely a particular kind of psychological content, but also a particular kind of expression , (Williams, 27). Religion In The Pardoner s Tale Throughout The Canterbury Tales religious figures are represented with character traits that are completely different from what would be traditionally expected. One main cause behind this was because Europe was ruled, mostly, by the Catholic Church which caused many people to suffer from poverty and wealth while the church was building extravagant cathedrals. The overwhelming difference between the suffering of the people and the wealth of the church caused Chaucer to show many of his characters as deceitful and greedy. Multiple examples of this can be found throughout The Canterbury Tales like; the Summoner from the The Friar s Tale and Death from the The Pardoner s Tale. During Chaucer s life a summoner was a church official who would bring people that have been accused of violating the laws set by the church to court, which was also set up by the church. In The Friar s Tale there is a deceitful summoner who pressures people into giving bribing him, so they won t have to go to court, by using his position in the church. • 23. Analytic Hierarchy Process And Analytic Network Process 2.3.2 MCDA Models Related to Thesis Analytic Hierarchy Process and Analytic Network Process There are different methods to solve multi criteria decision making problems. Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) and Analytic Network Process (ANP) are two methods introduced by Tomas Saaty. AHP tries to solve the decision problem by modeling it in a hierarchy while ANP is used when the problem is so complex that cannot be modeled as a hierarchy. This complexity occurs because of the effect of criteria on each other or the effect of alternatives on criteria. The Analytic Network Process is a generalization of the Analytic Hierarchy Process. ANP approach comprises four steps [87]: Step 1: Model construction and problem structuring: The problem should be stated clearly and decomposed into a rational system like a network Step 2: Pairwise comparisons and priority vectors: In ANP, like AHP, pairs of decision elements at each cluster are compared with respect to their importance towards their control criteria. In addition, interdependencies among criteria of a cluster must also be examined pairwise; the influence of each element on other elements can be represented by an eigenvector. The relative importance values are determined with Saaty s scale. Step 3: Supermatrix formation: The Supermatrix concept is similar to the Markov chain process. To obtain global priorities in a system with interdependent influences, the local priority vectors are entered in the appropriate columns of a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The object s in an infant s world, especially during the first few months of life are essentially good or bad. Thus, if the child receives milk, the breast is good, if not, it is bad. Klein posits that the objects within one s world as an infant consist of gratification and hostility. In addition to drives, infants are focused on the internal object, which is more of a fantasy than an object based in reality, as the infant struggles to know the difference at this point in life. These fantasies are representations of bodily instincts and urges that the infant can feel physically and mentally. Atwood believed that society was going wrong and wrote this savage satire, similar to Jonathan Swift s A Modest Proposal , depicting a dystopia which she uses as a mirror to hold up to society. I will be focusing on the main character and narrator, Offred, a handmaid who mingles memories of her life before the revolution with her rebellious activities under the new regime (book group corner), as she ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... She forgets where she is and remembers her past life as a waitress. The line between fantasizing about the past and the harsh reality of her new life breaks down. She smiles blankly at the other Handmaids and asks them how they are doing. She had a lapse similar to this at the Red Centre where Handmaids were taught how to act in this new regime. Janine s mental state was frail to begin with and her automatic reaction to scenes of brutality or stress set off her memories of her previous life. Janine s breakdown shows how memories affect us. Janine cannot handle the deprivation she is now faced with compared to the freedoms of her past. There is a strong link between memories and hope. Raffaela Baccolini discusses this link in her article The Persistence of Hope in Dystopian Science Fiction. She says that Utopia is maintained in dystopia, traditionally a bleak, depressing genre with no space for hope in the story, only outside the story. Offred does not have much, if anything, to stimulate herself with mentally. She is in a bare room with shatterproof glass that has been made safe to prevent her from committing suicide. Her only escape is her mind which harbours her memories. She has no hope in her story, which is her life, but she does have hope ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 34. The Nature Of Elizabethan Acting ARTICLE 1 Elizabethan Acting Author(s): Alfred Harbage Source: PMLA, Vol. 54, No. 3 (Sep. 1939), pp. 685 708 The debate over the nature of acting during Shakespeare s time has been there for a long time. As early as the 1950s there were speculations already of what took place on Elizabethan stages. What was the nature of Elizabethan acting? There was the controversial discussion that divided people into two schools of thought; the formalist and the naturalist. The naturalists argue that those early days were characterized by acting that was natural. Formalist has contrasting views that Elizabethan acting was formal. A compromise is that Elizabethan acting was a mixture of both formal and naturalism. However, Alfred Harbage argues acting was either natural or formal. To determine which style to look at, he defined and gave examples of the two different styles of acting. He argues that whether acting is formal or natural, actors must create reality. Acting had to be perfected and their presentation never changed even with time. Harbage argues that acting may be natural to one audience but the same could be formal to another audience, that one was a logical alternative to the other. Alfred Harbage wrote that there are no explicit differences in two styles of acting and the two could have been present in the Elizabethan period. He argues that Natural acting strives to create an illusion of reality by consistency on the part of the actor who remains in character and tends ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 36. A Modest Proposal On Satire Satire is a specific classification of writing that occasionally makes utilization of realistic and performing expressions with the aim of scorning society into self change. With social criticism being its fundamental objective, it uses dark sarcasm as its primary device to get the point across. Satire impacts people to reconsider themselves so as to alter senseless thoughts and behaviors. These methodologies mix the acing of matching unimportant and authentic matters as one joke, demonstrating compliment yet meaning the contrary to show ambiguity, and asking rhetorical questions. Moreover, the creator may downplay an issue keeping in mind the end goal to move the group of audience towards the genuine significance of the theme, antagonistically; distortion is utilized to bring down the effect of an issue to its lesser quality. Aggregately, these procedures are practiced to draw out the human follies and vices in society. In Molière s Tartuffe and Jonathan Swift s article A Modest Proposal, both diagonally condemn and criticize human conduct and the discernment we have towards others. • 38. The Reign Of Elizabeth I The reign of Elizabeth I is often thought of as a Golden Age. It was a time of extravagance and luxury in which a flourishing popular culture was expressed through writers such as Shakespeare, and explorers like Drake and Raleigh sought to expand England s territory overseas. This sense of well being was embodied by Queen Elizabeth who liked to wear sumptuous costumes and jewellery, and be entertained in style at her court. But life in Tudor England did not always reflect such splendour. The sixteenth century was also a time when the poor became poorer, books and opinions were censored, and plots to overthrow the Queen were rife. Elizabeth s ministers had to employ spies and even use torture to gain information about threats to her life. In 1558 the Protestant preacher John Knox wrote, It is more than a monster in nature that a woman should reign and bear empire over man. So was he right? Were women fit to rule the country? The people had lived through the unpopular reign of Mary I, known as Bloody Mary for her merciless persecution of Protestants. Lady Jane Grey was Queen for only a matter of days before being toppled and eventually executed. And Mary Queen of Scots made a series of ill judged decisions which led her to the executioner s block in 1587. Elizabeth could be as ruthless and calculating as any King before her. Elizabeth was a different kind of Queen: quick witted, clever and able to use feminine wiles to get her own way. Elizabeth could be as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
