J.R.R Tolkien and WWI Influence in The Lord of the Rings War has affected the lives of people since
the beginning of civilization. Even General Sherman, famous for his March to the Sea in America s
Civil War, was known for his saying, War is Hell. That idea would only prove to be all too true for the
soldiers of World War I. J.R.R Tolkien was among the young men that struggled for survival in the
damp and deplorable trenches as enemy fire hailed from the sky and bombs decimated the terrain
around them. Many soldiers returned home, physically and mentally traumatized. J.R.R. Tolkien was
no different, and returned home from the war after losing two of his closest friends, suffering from
trench fever, and struggling to acclimate back into normal civilian life (Wood 7). The war left an
imprint on him, just as it did many other WWI writers, such as Ernest Hemingway and Robert Graves
(Ott 1). Tolkien used his writings as a way to escape his trauma, but the scars followed him even into

like Aragorn, suffered through similar physical tribulations such as horrid sights of rotting corpses, as

Richard Cory is a narrative pom written by Edwin Arlington Robinson. The poem was first published
in 1897, as a part of The Children of the Night, having been completed in July of that year. Robinson s

meat and had a diet mainly of bread, often day old bread selling for less than freshly baked goods.
This hard times experience made the townspeople even more aware of Richard s difference from
them, so much so that they treated him as royalty. The Poem describes a person who is wealthy, well
educated, mannerly, and admired by the people in his town. Robinson uses connotation extensively to
place Richard Cory high on a pedestal above the townspeople. Connotation is the use of words to
suggest meanings beyond the dictionary definition. To lower the townspeople, Robinson places them
downtown. This suggests that Richard Cory is coming down, or lowering himself, to the level of the
townspeople when he comes into town. He also places people on the pavement, which is lower than
the sidewalk where Richard Cory most likely walks. Robinson positions the characters to show the
differences in their financial status. He also shows that it is the townspeople, and not Cory, that seem
to define these positions. Cory is perceived as distant royalty, he is perceived as a gentlemen,an
aristocraft above those who worked,unable to communicate with common people. The author uses this
as the suggestion that something is wrong with Richard Cory as he seems like the perfect

stable life. Sylvia Plath paints this vivid picture of this nightmare using a number of allusions. While

In 1943 two men, Martin and Bell discovered a gene condition called Fragile X Syndrome. 2 Fragile
X Syndrome (FXS) is a genetic condition, which may cause an intellectual disability, behavioural and
learning difficulties and various other physical characterstics.1 It occurs when the female gene (X
gene) is repeated over 50 200 times, this is called Fragile X permutation. 1 In 1969, Herbert Lubs
established the chromosomal test for Fragile X Syndrome. Fragile X Syndrome is an inherited
condition in which the X chromosome is passed on from the parent to the child. If the woman has the
affect X, they will have an increased chance for passing the gene on but as men have an Y as well as
an X chromosome, if they have Fragile X Syndrome, their sons won t be affected as they have their
fathers Y chromosome. It is the most common form of inherited intellectual disability in males and a
major cause of intellectual disability in females.
There is currently no cure for this condition yet and treatment is generally based on the symptoms the
individual has.

various ethnic and racial backgrounds present in the newsroom has as much to do with improving the
process of newsgathering and reporting as it does achieving racial parity. In short, I think the role of
diversity in journalism is to make journalism better.
For example, Donald Trump s recent visit to Mexico not only highlighted the divisions within the
Republican Party but the junket also revealed the disparity as to who gets to tell the story of his bid for
the Whitehouse. Aside from Trump s well publicized spat with the news anchor Jorge Ramos; it s
apparent the journalists assigned to covering the Trump campaign have not been representative of the
country s population at large. While they ve done a great job covering many aspects of his campaign,
it s not the full story.

Martin Brody is the new police chief trying to rid Amity Island of a savage shark terrorising the
islanders and tourists alike in the 1976 thriller, Jaws. Jaws was directed by Steven Spielberg and
starred Roy Scheider, Robert Shaw and Richard Dreyfuss. Amity Island relies almost fully on the
income gained by tourists visiting the island in the summer vacation. It is up to Martin Brody to
protect the beach goers by finding the shark and killing it. This brings up issues of fighting fears as
well as fighting the constant battle between humans and nature. It is set around July 4th because this
would be the height of the tourist season for the island and the threat of the shark ... Show more
However it also shows tension as during the silence the audience do not know if another attack is
going to happen.
The second attack is on a small boy in the sea at a crowded beach on Amity Island. It starts with the
young boy asking his mother if he can go back into the sea. We then see Brody sat on the beach
watching out for sharks. The camera does a long shot of Brody s point of view, which we see a woman
screaming. This makes us think that the girl is being attacked when she is not, this builds up tension
because it hasn t happened yet and we know it will do we just don t no when. Using the wide angle
shot of the shows us how big the sea is and how vulnerable people are in it. It then shows a boy
running back into the water using mid range shot with the boy on the lilo n the background and the
children in the fore ground. This makes us uneasy because there is a lot of splashing which means if
the shark was to be there it would be camouflaged and also the splashing attracts sharks. Next, there is
a close up shot of a small child singing, seeing the small child singing is calming which lulls us into a
false sense of security, making the imminent attack scarier as you do not expect it. A view from under
the water is then given from the shark s point of view showing legs. This gives us the signal that
