The document discusses adversity and entrepreneurship. It begins by defining adversity and noting that most entrepreneurship papers focus on processes rather than entrepreneurs themselves. The study aims to examine how adversity influences successful entrepreneurs in the Philippines by using Stoltz's Adversity Quotient theory. The literature review covers theories related to entrepreneurship from various disciplines. The theoretical framework section explains the Adversity Quotient theory and how it will be used. The design section outlines surveys and interviews to measure entrepreneur success and adversity quotient. Preliminary results show a moderate negative correlation between adversity quotient and business performance measures. The conclusion is that entrepreneurs with lower adversity quotients tend to have less successful businesses.

Expanding the User Centred Design Process to incorporate an Experience Evalua...JimmyUX
This presentation looks at many of the user centred design processes being used today and the different steps they take to shepard a system from conception through to production. It highlights some major common shortcomings within these processes and offers a solution based on research and evaluative techniques that may lead to a more holistic appraisal of a system with regard to experiential data.
Dispositioning Advantage: A Pervert's Guide to Strategy DesignWilliam Evans
Strategy. The identification and exploitation of an opponent’s weakness. Before you can have Strategy Deployment (Policy Deployment, Hoshin Kanri), it tends to reason that you probably need a strategy to deploy. But how do you do that? What are the mechanisms? What are the methods? What are the principles that allow an organization to design a meaningful strategy?
This lively 45 (to 60 minute) romp will introduce you to the history of strategy in organizations (it’s dark, perverse, and full of dragons) from Porter to Rumelt, to Dettmer, and Boyd. Few will remember that in the early days of strategy, there was only one: drive down the experience curve and be the low-cost provider with a stream-lined supply chain. The talk will unpack what strategy actually is and more importantly, what it is not. It will painstakingly deconstruct how the term is ritually abused and misused, and then methodically introduce how strategy is a design problem, but too important to be left to the designers in their plaid shirts, funky glasses, and ernest but ultimately vapid proclamations about human-centered blah blah, validating blah, blah, buzzword bingo verbal diarrhea inventing flaccid constructs like ‘design strategy, content strategy, ux strategy’ and ‘strategic planning’.
The talk will introduce some conceptual frameworks used in military strategy and maneuver warfare, which dates back over 2,300 years to the time of Sun Tzu’s The Art of War. We’ll explore how the time-tested principles of economic and military competition can be applied to social and commercial ventures, such as software and service delivery leading to considerable benefits in coherence, focus. and profit. We’ll then introduces a reasonable, systematic set of methods to help you translate current market uncertainty, fast changing customer needs, and ever-changing technological disruptions into a meaningful strategy and organizational capability ready for Hoshin Kanri.
Oragnization development OD (INTRODUCTION)shagun jain
Organization development is the study of successful organizational change and performance. OD emerged from human relations studies in the 1930s, during which psychologists realized that organizational structures and processes influence worker behavior and motivation.
Organizational Development is of the most concurrent HR subject specialization, aims to improve strategic human resource management role to improvise the business and organization development. action research and organizational diagnosis, various tools and techniques like sensitivity training, T group interventions help the readers to understand better details.
2. Introduction
• Adversities are part of our everyday life, and does happen
unexpectedly
– Has three levels:
• Societal
• Workplace, and
• Individual
• Most papers on entrepreneurship deal with processes
• Papers on the entrepreneurs are scant
• The researcher attempts to answer how adversity plays a
significant role in modeling a successful entrepreneur and its
effects on the budding entrepreneur set in the Philippine
context
3. The Problem
• How does adversity play a significant role
in modelling a successful entrepreneur
and its effects on the budding
entrepreneur set in the Philippine context?
• Stoltz’ Adversity Quotient theory has been
tested and validated for several years
already across the globe.

10. The Theoretical Framework
The Adversity Quotient
• Authored by Dr. Paul
Stoltz, a result of 19 years
of rigorous research
• Stoltz puts forward that by
improving response to
adversity vis-à-vis
understanding, measuring,
and raising one’s AQ, one
can improve his ability to
overcome it and persevere
in the long run.
11. The Theoretical Framework
The Adversity Quotient
• He furthers the idea that a person’s
success in his work and in life is
largely determined by his own AQ by:
– telling how well one can withstand
adversity and his ability to surmount
it;
– predicting who will overcome
adversity and who will be crushed;
– predicting who will exceed
expectations of their performance
and potential and who will fall short;
and
– predicting who will give up and who
will prevail.
12. The Theoretical Framework
The Adversity Quotient
• Stoltz writes that AQ takes three forms: Cognitive
– First, it is a new conceptual framework for Psychology
understanding and enhancing all facets of
success as it redefines what it takes to succeed.
– Second, how one responds to adversity can be
measured, understood and changed.
– Lastly, it is a scientifically-grounded set of tools for
improving how to respond to adversity while Neurophysiology
looking into the personal and professional
effectiveness as a result
• AQ can be learned and is formed through AQ
influences of parents, teachers, peers, among
others, during childhood
• There is a dearth of literature focusing on the
entrepreneurs, and even less on the theory’s Psychoneuroimm
applicability to Philippine context unology
13. The Theoretical Framework
Framework for Analysis
• A system is
– any organized collection of parts united by prescribed
interactions and designed for the accomplishment of
specific goals or general purposes.
• Systems theory views an organization as a
complex set of dynamically intertwined and
interconnected elements
• Systems theorists see organizations as always-
changing processes of interactions among
organizational and environmental elements
14. The Theoretical Framework
Framework for Analysis
• Reasearcher will adopt Robert Wiener’s
model of an organization, from the book
Cybernetics
– actions by the system or organization cause
change in the system’s environment, and that
change is communicated back to the system,
consequently allowing the system to change
its behavior

18. Conclusion
• Based on initial results:
– Moderate correlation between Adversity
Quotient (AQ) and performance of the
business or businesses an entrepreneur owns
and manages.
– entrepreneurs with low adversity quotients
tend to have businesses with lower growth in
capitalization, net income and return on
investment .
19. Conclusion
• As it is hypothesized, increase in capitalization, assets,
revenues, net income, return on investments, and
market share have a very strong positive correlation
among each other, and is significant at the 0.01 level.
This may indicate that a business that has increase in
capitalization may also have increase in other success
indicators.
