Difference Between Speaking And Wring
The difference between speaking and wring in English is the way it is perceived. It is varied from
context and is reliant on context. When language is spoken, it is a form of behaviour made up of
different dialects and morality. The context of which English is spoken or written has a dramatic
influence, languageis changed by different situations that a person is exposed to, Formal and
informal, social events, professional events or cultural influences. Each context is made up of
different surroundings and people in which are part of the communication. Different language can
be used within the same context and be different from person to person. For example in a
classroom the language used between and a teacher and student would be different to that of a peer
to peer interaction. When speaking, people are usually face to face, therefore they can rely on such
extra linguistic clues as facial expression and gesture to aid meaning. Written English is more
reliant on the development of careful organisation and compact expression, with often intricate
sentence structure (Crystal, 2005).
Speaking English
Within Gee Hayes (2011) the authors suggest that language can be understood as a cognitive
process, something that is in our head, our brain and minds that tell us how to speak. Another
view is that it is a physical aspect that is present in the form of speech, recordings and writings. It
can also be viewed as a means of social convention shared by a group of people, about

Essay about Equality vs. Athletics
Equality vs. Athletics
In 1929, the 19th Amendment gave women the right to vote. This was a breakthrough for America
and an enormous step towards equal opportunities for women everywhere. Being given the right to
vote created a sense of long awaited and greatly deserved equality with men. Even though women
were given the right to vote, over 70 years ago, the government still has to make a law to ensure
that equal treatment is given. Title IX was instated in 1972 to provide women with the same athletic
opportunities as men in universities across the United States. While Title IX has helped advance
female athletics, there are arguments that it has discriminated against male athletics. Attorney Curt
Levey makes a drastically bias ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Fewer than 30,000 females participated in intercollegiate athletics due to lack of opportunities
provided by colleges. After Title IX was established, women who participated in athletics had an
increased chance for opportunities. Since Title IX was introduced in 1972 female athletic
participation has increased more than 403% since 1971. By 2001 2.8 million females participated
in athletics, which makes up 43% of college varsity athletics. These numbers show an obvious
increase in female athletics and prove that Title IX has helped in the advancement of women s
equality (Title IX at Thirty: Report Card on Gender Equity 14 16).
Levey s main argument with Title IX was based on the negative effect of the proportionality rule.
His argument states that in order to comply with the proportionality rule, upper level schools have
to comply with cutting male athletics (Levey 626). However, it has been stated that male athletics,
at both high school and college levels, are continually increasing with the rate of female athletics.
In the case of Brentwood Academy vs. Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association (TSSAA)
reports state that the TSSAA were not following

For My Research Paper, I Desired To Learn More About Juvenile
For my research paper, I desired to learn more about juvenile delinquency in Frederick County by
researching and finding what crimes are most common and what sentences or court dispositions are
common for juveniles found guilty of crimes. I know that court dispositions frequently result in
probation and that Frederick County does not have a Juvenile Detention center, therefore I was
most interested in how probation was implemented in Frederick County and other counties in
Maryland and what other probation programs Maryland currently implements or implemented in
the past. I was also interested in the profession of a juvenile probation officer in Maryland such as
the job requirements, daily responsibilities, etc. The last information I... Show more content on

Probation is the nonpunitive, legal disposition of offenders that emphasizes community treatment.
During probation, the offender is closely supervised by a probation officer and must adhere to strict
guidelines; if any guidelines are violated the offender can be incarcerated. Within the juvenile court
system in Maryland and across the country, probation is the most frequently used disposition.
Through conducting an email interview with Bill Keefer, Case Management Program Supervisor
for the Department of Juvenile Services Office in Frederick County, and through further research, I
have been able to learn more about juvenile crime rates in Frederick County and common court
dispositions following those crime. I was also able to learn more about the profession of a juvenile
probation officer and about how probation is being implemented for juveniles in Frederick County
and other counties throughout Maryland. I have also found other non traditional juvenile probation
initiatives that are currently being implemented or have been implemented in the past in Maryland.
A juvenile probation officer, which is known as a Case Management Specialist in Maryland, is in
charge of coordinating and implementing the delivery of services and treatment plans for juveniles
on informal supervision, probation supervision, aftercare supervision, detained pending trial or
disposition, or committed to the Department of Juvenile

Adverse Selection Research Paper
Adverse selection Individuals who are sick are more likely to purchase health insurance than
healthy people. This sicker population might utilize a significant amount of healthcare services. In
order to cater to this demand insurance companies will resort to raising the premiums, dissuading
healthy people from buying insurance. As the pool of people covered by insurance becomes sicker
it continues to drive up costs leading to a vicious cycle where each year fewer and fewer healthy
individuals obtain insurance. This process is called adverse selection. By implementing the
individual mandate, we introduce healthy people into the insurance pool. The healthy individuals
mitigate the cost of sicker individuals. As a result of requiring people

The Enlargement Of Nato And European Union
Eastern Europe has never had a stable political atmosphere compared to the Western countries,
which can be observed as a major threat to any MNC trying to penetrate this market. Most of these
countries were under a communist regime and have gained their independence rather recently
(Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, and Macedonia became independent in early 1990 s, by
separating from Yugoslavia, and Moldova, Ukraine and Belarusgained their independence in 1991,
with the fall of Soviet Union). The influence of communistic philosophy, therefore, can explain the
difficulties these countries were facing when they tried to integrate and approach the West.
Even though the enlargement of NATO and European Union was a strategic move to make a
political and economic reform in this particular region, which would help it in a better integration
with western countries, the recent rise of nationalist and populist forces in several countries in
eastern Europe, threatens to undermine the reform process. [1] Happenings such as the Orange
Revolution in 2004 and Crimea crisis in 2014 in Ukraine, or the authoritarian ruling style by the
Belarus president Aleksandr Lukasenko (who still sustains close political and economic ties with
Russia and bans political and civil freedom in the country) are solid indicators of an ongoing
political instability in this area. On the other hand, countries such as Romania (which also had a
rocky history of decades long dictatorship of Nicolai Ceausescu),

The Governing Board s Role
Governing Board s Role The governing boards role is very important when it comes to discussing
what is happening within a healthcare organization and making sure things are been done to their
ethical standards. The primary role of governing boards is to make sure that the mission statement
includes things that are needed from the public and to make sure that those people hired for this
company are able to uphold to the ethnical code that is given by the healthcare organization. When
issues arise within the organization, it is left up to the governing board themselves and the CEO to
see how it would be best to address the situation before jumping to any type of conclusion. The

The board s duty of assuring that there is an effective strategy process has to go well beyond
requiring and overseeing the periodic production of a strategic plan (Morrill, 2013, pg. 14). Every
plan that is put in more requires way much more than just coming up with the plan, it requires that
there is no steps left out of the final decision and that things are handled in the proper manner.
Overall, the governing board has a great responsibility along with the CEO when it comes to
handling things in an ethical manner. Key Performance Dimensions In order to make sure the
healthcare organization is doing everything to provide the best care for their patients and that the
facility is doing everything that they can to ensure that, some type of performance measurements
need to be used. Performance measurement systems employed in healthcare must be capable of
not only meeting expectations of different stakeholder, but also of giving the most realistic image
of the status and the progress that are being made to the system (Doolen, Enami, 2015, pg. 427).
By using performance measurements, the facility can see what they are doing wrong and in what
ways they can improve service the patients next visit to ensure their voice was heard by the facility.

Mambouna During The Industrial Revolution
A general strike in Dakar, with the exception of railway workers, guaranteed wage increases,
family allowances for government workers, the recognition of unions, the expansion of wage
hierarchies, and bonuses for seniority. (Aurora Munoz) Several important changes drove the
members of the Railway Workers Union to lead to a memorable strike. The railways had been
transferred to a parastatal group, which means that it was now owned wholly by the government.
This changed meant that the railroad workers could no longer benefit from the status of civil
servants. The parastatal group was set up in a hierarchical fashion. At the bottom of the pyramid
were mostly Africans, meaning they receive fewer benefits than everyone else. Most of the African

Her character is unique because she is outspoken but sets goals for herself and pursues them. She

interesting is that she possesses the qualities of both Maimouna and Ramatoulaye, two other
important figures in the novel. She is a genuine loving and caring person like Maimouna but
stands up for justice like Ramatoulaye. Penda obtained these qualities for a while. From her

Traditional Society And New Colonial Society Essay
In many of the books we read traditional society and new colonial society clashed when brought
together. Most of the time the colonial society overtook the traditional beliefs and forced the
populations to convert to European ideals. This often manifested within religious practices. When
people were made to give up thousands of years worth of customs they did not willingly convert.
This often hostile takeover then isolated people from each other and made peace difficult to
achieve. In both Things Fall Apartand The Wine of Astonishment a colonial power comes into a
culture and tears it apart. By outlawing common practices many people held dear to their hearts,
the new governments hurt the population more than helped. For a short time people would accept
the new ways and try to comply with the new restrictions on their culture. As more and more
restrictions were added people stopped following the new traditions and went back to their lives.
This led to governments terrorizing citizens and made people not trust those with power. Forced
modernization was bad for the native people of Africa and the Caribbean. A common way that
modern and traditional culture clashed was in religion. When it comes to converting people to
Christianity, missionaries try to reform the area they are in. On the continent of Africa the
Portuguese were the first to send missionaries. They continued the practice for centuries. One group
of people would be selected to reform first with the hope the rest

Rhetorical Analysis Of Dakota By Debra Marquart
Debra Marquart described the place she is from very badly. She uses emotional appeal to
characteristics s the upper west. She shows shows how many different people view North Dakota
and how many believe it is just another ugly desert. Marquaty was also able to use ad hominem in
the way she described the place she grew up in.
In using emotional appeal, she wants to make the audience feel a certain way about North Dakota.
Marquart does this when she says, being blond, fresh faced, band Midwestern makes their descent
into ruthless behavior in places like Los Angeles and New York all the more tragic, (Marquart L.
17 20). She described that many women in North Dakota are blonde and have strong attitudes but,

She wants them to believe that people from North Dakota are just like any other human beings
and that their hom is a beautiful place. She wants everyone to be open minded about the place
she grew up in. Even though she speaks badly about it, she does it so that others can see what it
looks like to speak badly about a place someone calls home.
Marquart wants to show the audience that between the years 1885 and 1911, people viewed the
Midwest as a beautiful and exceptional Place everyone wanted to go to. Marquart says, They
traveled to the Midwest by train to what was then the end of the line Eureka, South Dakota... I have

allotments of land, ( Marquart L. 64 74). This quote shows how back in the eighteenth and nineteen
hundreds, people view the Midwest as a chance to make it to something amazing. She shows this
part at the end because she wants to show the audience that even though throughout the whole
passage she speaks badly of it, there is always a small amount of good in everything. Eureka was
South Dakota, and many immigrants from Russia, including her grandparents, saw the place as

Non Effective Followers And The Groups Of Followers,...
The four groups of followers operated as alienated followers, sheep, yes people, and survivors,
all lacking the key factor of being able to succeed without strong leadership. Sheep lack initiative
and sense of responsibility, while yes people refuse to be against the leader (Wren 195).
Alienated followers tend to think more independently but are prone to group think. They are
normally dissatisfied and/or resentful. Any of these three groups can at any time merge into the
survivor group because this group of followers operate under the slogan better safe than sorry
(Wren 195). If a leader is surrounded by these types of followers, it is more difficult for him to be a

Transformational leadership is used by a leader to appeal to the moral values of followers in an
attempt to raise their consciousness about ethical issues and to mobilize their energy and resources
to reform institutions (Yukl Charismatic 261). Pseudotransformational leadership refers to
transformational leadership, but when the leader is self consumed, exploitive, power oriented,
[and] possess[es] warped values (Hinz). When a leader appeals to followers self interest and offers
an exchange of benefits, the leader is utilizing transactional leadership (Yukl Charismatic 261).
When first studying Jim Jones, one would think that he led through transformational leadership;
however, he actually leds through pseudotransformational leadership. Since Jones preached about
equality and accepting all men, his messages seemed consistent with ethical morals. He also
formed a lively church setting, where people would dance, jump, run around, yell, and scream.
This stirred emotions in most members and even visitors, and is often talked about in movies
(McCloud). One would think that people would be tired after all the commotion, but, on the
contrary, people felt revived and energized after services. Jones finally showed his true style when
he moved part of his congregation to Guyana. At this location, Jones

Differences Between Star Wars And Star Wars
In this article I ll be talking about the difference in the famous films: Star Wars and Star Trek have
a lot of movies and series.
Introduction:
These two films: Star Wars and Star Trek are films which have to do from the first to the last to
understand. These two films are classified as the two most fanatical movies starting with children
and ending with the elderly. These two series of films I put them to the title: Fantasias Wars
Star Wars information:
Star Wars is an American epic space opera franchise, centered on a film series created by George
Lucas. It depicts the adventures of various characters a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away .
The first film in the series, Star Wars (later subtitled Episode IV: A New Hope), was... Show more

By contrast, in Star Trek we are told the story of a future in which the inhabitants of the Earth take
to the exploration of the universe in search of new planets and new life forms. The original series
in the XXIII century, but this time varies according to the number we re looking at.
Gains movies
While Star Wars has raised its six films about $ 5,670 million, Star Trek with its dozen films he
has reached $ 1,760. And yet here we do not have the latest animated film, which also must be
much . The film pocketed more money from the Star Wars saga was the original 1977 about $
1,610 million while Star Trek are barely reached $ 235 million with its Star Trek IV 1986
Conclusion:
I choose Star Wars vs. Star Trek because I like science fiction and fantasy movies. I liked Star
Wars more because it has more special effects and the characters demonstrate more action; however
the part of the movie as the main character. Star Trek didn t Convince me. I think it was boring.

Language Skills Within The Siop Model
Language Skills Within the SIOP Model With the increasing number of English language learners
(ELLs) in the United States, English learners (ELs) make up a decent percentage of the students
in our classroom. It is projected that by 2015, 30 percent of the school aged population in the
United States will be ELLs. Which is an increase of 169 percent over the last two decades (Francis,
M. Rivera, Lesaux, Kieffer, H. Rivera, 2006). Educators, now, more than ever, need to be teaching
to the needs of our English language learners. Through the use of the SIOP (Sheltered Instruction

Also, it is not how you put words together, but about the meaning it s conveying. Deconstructing
complex text, and digging deeper into the text, is academic language. Meaning, this is new
learning for all students, not just ELs. With ELs, we still have to give them the complex text that
is appropriate for their grade level, but we need to provide them with support that will help them
be successful, then slowly pull them off that support, (Uro, 2011). According to Bunch, Kibler, and
Pimentel (2012) ELLs face additional challenges beyond the challenges all students face with
digging deeper into complex text. One challenge they face is trying to process intricate and
complicated text, while attempting to comprehend the content they are reading. To help ELs meet
these challenges, a variety of resources are used including: knowledge of second language, literacy
skills in their first language, reading comprehension strategies, and background knowledge. They
type of text students are expected to read with the Common Core standards looks different from
what most educators are used to. Educators are now being asked to incorporate more informational
text into their lessons. As we, educators, are planning our lessons, we will need to make
informational text as much of a priority, if not more, as literary text. Along with incorporating
informational text into our lessons, we also need to think about

Comparison Of The Prince And The Sphinx
Literature is a part of every civilization in the world and numerous works from different cultures
often parallel one another. In Ancient Egypt, between the paws of the Great Sphinx, lies a fourteen
foot red granite tablet. This tablet, known as the Dream Stele, is inscribed with the tale of The
Prince and The Sphinx. This story is about the prince, Thutmose IV, and his unusual interaction with
the god, Harmachis or Horus in the Horizon, who is a manifestation of the sun god and is often
depicted as a sphinx (Hornung, 130). This story is not unique to Ancient Egyptsince there is a
similar story found in the Bible. In the first book of the Bible, Genesis, there is the story of Joseph.
Joseph, a shepherd from Canaan, was an interpreter of dreams who found himself in quite the
predicament. Both of these tales have uncanny similarities to each other.
The first parallel between the two stories is that both Thutmose IV and Joseph had many brothers
and half brothers who hated them because they were the favorite sons. Their brothers held such
jealousy against them that they tried to kill them. In the tale of The Prince and The Sphinx,
Thutmose IV was the Pharaoh s favourite son, because of this his brothers were forever plotting
against him...the plots were aimed at his very life (Green, 57). The same is true for Joseph, Israel
loved Joseph more than any of his other sons, because he had been born to him in his old
age...When his brothers saw that their father loved him more

Affirmative Action Is Necessary Analysis
America is said to be like a melting pot, a diverse land of people with all sorts of different
cultures and backgrounds. But, how truly diverse is America? How diverse are our schools and
our workplaces? Why Affirmative Action Is Necessary was published in 2015 to EBSCO by Anne
Stokely. Stokely s argument is in favor of affirmative actionbecause she believes it allows everyone
to compete freely in the marketplace. Affirmative action continues to be a controversial idea in our
society today.
The issue at hand is if affirmative action is necessary. Does America need it? Is it fair? Is it actually
helping minorities get ahead? Is affirmative action causing reverse discrimination? The targeted
audience seems to be major corporations and education administrators. The main point of their
thesis is affirmative action helps minority groups gain access to education and jobs that they would
not usually have access to. The purpose of this article is to inform their audience why affirmative
action is a necessary policy to have.

A Life Changing Event For Women
Labor may cause the worst pain a woman has ever experienced. However, each woman s
experience of the pains of labor are an individual experience regarding their coping abilities,
sensitivity to the sensations of birth, and type of pain. Women also differ in their abilities to
tolerate a higher sense of painwithout distress whereas, other women experience high levels of
distress that caregivers have deemed a moderate level of pain. Accordingly, some birthing mothers
under value the pains of labor and are not equipped to cope with it. The process of delivering a

On Liberty Speech Analysis
This essay will explain Mill s view regarding freedom of expression and apply it to a modern
concern regarding hate speech. In On Liberty, Mill argues in favor of nearly unrestricted freedom
of expression in accordance with the harm principle because limiting the opinions of others hinders
the marketplace of ideas or clashing of views to allow for the truthto rise to the top through
refinement or exchanging false beliefs for truths. Mill explicitly states that silencing speech is an
evil that robs the human race, posterity as well as the existing generation.... It robs those who
disagree with these silenced opinions. Mill s view is utilitarian because minimizing speech is
socially advantageous because it allows people to learn from the choices, actions, and experiences
of others. Additionally, this view is utilitarian because limiting speech would lead to even worse
harm than simply tolerating hateful or harmful speech.
The main arguments that Mill presents in favor of his view in favor of almost complete freedom of
expression. First, allowing government censorship allows for the government to act with infallibility
to what is right or true. To refuse hearing opposing opinions because the government is sure the
belief to be false is to assume that their certainty is absolute certainty. Instead, allowing for near
unlimited freedom of expression allows for the consideration of thoughts. This allows us as
citizens to evaluate and critique other government and our own governments that have been
wrong in the past. By allowing for the presentation of contrary views, we as humans can be
aware of past mistakes and come to know the truth. For example, allowing for Galileo arguing
that the Earth revolves around the Sun allowed for correcting the false belief that the Earth is at
the center of the universe. While this allowance can lead to risky behaviors, prejudices or other
harms, Mill hold that regardless, it is worth these risks and challenges because this can lead to
finding truths or correcting truths. Second, Mill argues that allowing for falsehoods to be spoken,
even if wholly false, can have some kernels of truth that lead to truths for that issue or truths of
other issues. Suppressing speech can lead to

In Stan Lee and Jack Kirby s Fantastic Four issue one, the comic emphasizes the significance of
working together in a team, regardless of whatever personal differences or opinions the members

reliable within the team. These moral characteristics were ranked highly among the children, with a
significant correlation between the children s own morals and of the Fantastic Four s (Martin 246).
Young boys tend to identify themselves with superheroes, who share their main values, which
include doing what they think is right and to be counted on doing their part in a group (Martin

A standard hero embodies what we believe is best in ourselves. A hero is a standard to aspire to
as well as an individual to be admired (Miczo 4). The displays of these superheroes emerged as
the characters underwent certain transformations, experiences of growth in empathy, and turned
towards the good. They uphold and maintain the public sphere as they operate in complete
freedom and for the benefit of others. In later parts of the Spider Man series, Peter readiness to
forgive and not be bound by his past mistakes but be conditioned by it are what the Fantastic
Four also did in their first issue. They ensure a connection between their identities and facilitate
the development in the community, often adding to it and learning from it. They provide
memorable messages and have a significant influence on behavior (Miczo 91 92, 94). It is also
good to note that Spider Man s origin differs from the Fantastic Four as it was only through the
death of someone Peter cared for that becomes the catalyst needed for his transformation to set
himself on the right path of a hero. His origin and trauma towards the guilt of the death of his
uncle by the hands of a criminal he could have stopped (seen and revealed on also page 8 and 11
of Amazing Fantasy ) at the time later conditioned him to be a responsible person (Miczo100 101).
Therefore, these character traits illustrated by these superhero characters such as the Fantastic Four
and Spider Man only adds to the positive development of children as it nurtures and encourages the
heroic narratives of justice and the benefits of

Similarities And Differences Between Gilgamesh And Achilles
Each mythological hero by all accounts seems to be on a quest searching for what he desire most
on the planet. The same can be said for the two heroes I chose, Gilgamesh and Achilles. Gilgamesh
s greatest fear was dying, while Achilles fear was his legacy lost and overlooked. Although their
wishes differ, their quest share numerous similarities. In the end it all comes down to the same
thing. Both Gilgamesh and Achilleswanted immortality regardless of anything else, but each in his
own particular manner. In spite of the fact that immortality has a different meaning for Gilgamesh,
as it does for Achilles, each choice and additionally every one of the sacrifices they make, all
depend on their fear of dying and death. Both Gilgamesh and Achilles actions showed insight into
their cultures. It somewhat proved an answer to the way they did things and why they.
First, Gilgamesh and Achilles are two epic heroes who share some differences. Among the

Keratosis Pilalaris Research Paper
Causes and Treatment of Keratosis Pilaris
By Susha Cheriyedath, MSc
Causes of Keratosis Pilaris
Keratosis pilaris is caused by abnormally high buildup of keratin. The reason for this buildup is
still not clear. However, studies indicate that it can be associated with some skin conditions such as
atopic dermatitis (eczema) or genetic disorders.
Keratosis pilaris is found to be more common in people who have dry skin. In dry weather, this skin
condition seems to worsen and hence flares up in winter and clears in summer. Targeted cancer
therapies such as vemurafenib can also cause lesions resembling that of keratosis pilaris as a side
effect.
Keratosis pilaris is an inherited skin condition that runs in families. It usually develops in
childhood, is at its peak during adolescence, and often clears in adulthood.
Treatment of Keratosis Pilaris
Keratosis pilaris normally clears up on its own at a slow pace. In order to speed up recovery,
treatment methods are available, which mainly focus on exfoliation and moisturizing of the
affected skin. It can take months to see any improvement and the tiny bumps almost always come
back on stopping treatment.

they also soften and moisturize dry skin. They are available as over the counter as well as
prescription medicines. Follow your doctor s advice on how often to apply these creams. Topical
exfoliants are usually not prescribed for children as the acids present in these creams can cause

Effect Of Postimpressionists On The Next Generation Essay
Postimpressionism
Postimpressionism was a movement in late 19th century French painting that emphasized the artist
s personal response to a subject. Postimpressionism takes its name from an art movement that
immediately preceded it: Impressionism. But whereas impressionist painters concentrated on the
depiction of a subject s immediate appearance, postimpressionists focused on emotional or spiritual
meanings that the subject might convey. Although impressionist artists interpreted what they saw,
their approach nevertheless remained rooted in observation of the natural world. Postimpressionists
conveyed their personal responses to the world around them through the use of strong, unnatural

The unnaturally blocky forms of the bathers bodies conform to the angularity of the trees that frame
them. To unify different parts of the composition, he used shades of green, brown, and blue

CГ©zanne s paintings and his choppy, unblended brushstrokes convey the immediacy of his
personal experience. His technique appealed strongly to other postimpressionists seeking ways to
evoke emotional responses in viewers.
Seurat and van Gogh also drew their subjects from the world around them; Seurat concentrated
primarily on the urban life of Paris, while van Gogh focused on rural scenes. The symbolist
movement, a literary movement that stressed the expression of the artist s inner vision as the
purpose of art, influenced both artists, along with Van Gogh s friend Paul Gauguin.
While in Paris in 1886, Vincent van Gogh experimented briefly with neoimpressionism, but found
its techniques too restrictive. Instead, he used broader brush strokes and incorporated large zones
of single colors into his compositions. A former preacher, van Gogh gave his paintings a spiritual
charge through technique, subject matter, and color. The thick, energetic brushstrokes in Crows in
the Wheatfields (1890), which he painted just two and a half weeks before his suicide, suggest
turbulence. Dark birds hover in a brilliant blue sky

Araby Light And Darkness Essay
Light and Darkness: Imagery in James Joyce s Araby James Joyce s Araby presents a short story
of a young male whose infatuation leads him to a bazaar called Araby. Hence, the title of the story.
Joyce uses the narrator s infatuation to drive the story. Emotions such as desire, despair, and hope
are conveyed through the usage of light and darkness. This contrast is present throughout the short
story. Joyce uses setting, tone, and epiphany to depict how the narrator s dreams are not
connected to the reality of his every day life. The story begins with the narrator describing the
environment in which he lives to show how mundane, and routine his daily life is. The narrator
lives on the blind North Richmond Street which is secluded and desolate. Here, the narrator
attends a Christian s Boys School and is set free every evening to return to the house in which he
lives. The houses, nonetheless, are described as having brown imperturbable faces. The calm face
of the houses parallel the type of lives the narrator and surrounding neighbors lives. The only source
of relief from the reoccurring habits in the neighborhood is when the narrator and his friends play

Capitalism In Norris s Mcteague, By Frank Norris
In the reading, McTeague, by Frank Norris, a dentist named McTeague watches the day to day
lives of San Francisco s various laborers through the bay window of his Dental Parlor. McTeague
noticed that the street was always occupied by people with different kinds of people at specific
times of the day. Since San Francisco is described as full of energy because of the people in it, it is
inferred that the city has a personal, tied connection to its inhabitants. Frank Norrisportrayed the city
as full of liveliness and excitement to showcase how San Francisco itself is its own main character
with humanlike characteristics, ultimately suggesting that capitalism makes a city thrive. First
and foremost, the chronological timed schedule in which the people of San Francisco rely on is
shown as a continuous cycle that keeps the city up and running. The narrator states, A little later,
following in the path of the day laborers, came the clerks and shopgirls [...] always in a hurry,
glancing apprehensively at the powerhouse clock. (155) Not only does this quote show that the
city is a busy area where countless things are happening, but also shows how it runs on a clock
that lets people know where they have to be and when. The powerhouse clock is a symbol of how
San Francisco has a biological clock similar to what humanshave. Norris writes that the street
wakes breakfasts and sleeps in order to show that the street is comparable to a living organism.

5 weeks or so, I have moved from precontemplation to the preparation stage and will be moving
into the action stage in the coming month. I have implemented some new healthy behavior in
regards to breast cancer prevention and I have plan of action such as talking with my physician.
I will carry out the above screening tools that were mentioned as well as continue to lean on my

If my family was perfectly healthy and I felt fine, I would feel like there was no reason for me to

fine in the future. Exactly as my family member mentioned, prevention is key. Women need to take

The Effects Of Drinking Water On The United States
It is often believed that unsafe drinking water is strictly a critical health issue in impoverished third
world countries. However, in recent years in the United States, one of the most developed countries
in the world, we are experiencing multiple incidences of widespread public water contamination. In
2014, news stations across America were flooded with the devastating water crisis in Flint,
Michigan and though this is the most recent occurrence, it is not an isolated incident. Though Flint

During the late 60 s and early 70 s a series of studies were conducted on public water supplies due
to health concerns, which concluded that many treatment facilities were inadequate (2000). In an
effort to address public health concerns, Congress enacted the Safe Drinking WaterAct (SDWA) of
1974, which was amended in 1986 and 1996 (2000). The SDWA outlines the federal standards for
public drinking water, waste management, protection of drinking water sources, and the financial
infrastructure for projects (Tiemann, 2014).
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is responsible for enforcing policies and regulations
concerning public drinking water. The EPA estimates that the U.S. contains approximately 155,000
public water systems (Environmental Protection Agency, 2015). The three main water systems
include community water, which include residential buildings, transient non community water,

We continued to discuss perceptions and misconceptions of his culture and he explained that this
is a very personal subject for him, along with racism and the aftermath of Hurricane Maria which
recently did tremendous damage to his beloved island. Because of this, we spent the rest of our
interview discussing it. One of the biggest misconceptions for RJA personally is the assumption
that other people make when they meet him that because he is black he cannot be Puerto Rican. He
finds this ignorance absurd and dislikes people being put into boxes . There are millions of Afro
Latinos throughout Latin American and the United States and he objects to them not being treated
as such and considered different from other Latinos. He stated that many Puerto Ricans in the
United States downplay or deny the African root of their culture and it is very disheartening to
him. RJA has experienced racism in many ways himself and it was interesting to hear him say
that he has been discriminated against by African Americans when they find out I am actually
Hispanic, and by Hispanics who initially think I am African American. He finds it strange and
sad that several white Americans he has encountered somehow feel more comfortable around
him and open up about controversial topics related to race when they find out he s not African
American. He quotes the words of Jose Marti, a Cuban patriot, who used to say with regards to
his fellow Cuban countrymen: More than white, more than black: we are Cubans . I would be
remiss not to mention RJA s thoughts of the recent devastation of his beloved island after
Hurricane Maria struck in September, 2017. The island is still reeling from the effects of the storm

Analysis Of `` Maus `` By Art Spiegelman
Walter Anderson once said, Bad things do happen; how I respond to them defines my character
and the quality of my life. I can choose to sit in perpetual sadness, immobilized by the gravity of
my loss, or I can choose to rise from the pain and treasure the most precious gift I have life itself.
(Anderson, 2015). The graphic novel, Maus, by Art Spiegelman conveys a message similar to that
of Fitzgerald s Babylon Revisited. If a man has hope and perseverance he can realize and truly
appreciate a second chance.
The protagonist in each novel is a man who has faced great diversity, Charlie in Babylon Revisited
does so by his own accord while Vladek, in Maus, hid from the Nazi s in Poland during World War

lifestyle with his wife. They spent money like it was in endless supply. By the time the Stock

in law. Vladek and his wife were in Poland when the Nazi s invaded and desperately went from
place to place looking for a safe hiding spot. They found out who their friends were and who were
not which lead to some desperate times. In both cases the environment around these men, in

Colon cancer is the third most commonly diagnosed cancer and the second leading cause of
cancer death in men. Many of the colorectal cancers develop from precanurous polyps. Polyps

Signs of colon cancer include a change in your bowel system (diarrhea or constipation or a

Smell: Dogs use smell to identify individuals, determine gender and recognise another dog s

They are able to use pheromones for communication, which are endogenous chemicals that carry

Emotional Analysis Of The Old Spice Scent Vacation...
We all know a person who looks very confident and put together on the outside, but a
conversation with them reveals that much is lacking in their personality. Similarly, commercials
can appear fun or exciting, but upon further inspection it is greatly lacking in depth. Because of
this, creating commercials is a balance between providing information and keeping the viewers
engaged. The process isn t simply writing a script containing only style and no substance, or one
with only substance and no style. With the former, a commercial could capture the audience s
attention, but provides no supporting information; the latter, provides an excessive amount of
information, but does not seize the viewers. Creating commercials pines for the utmost balance;
if the balance is off by a fraction, it could mean the difference between a million dollars or zero.
The Old Spice Scent Vacation commercial sits atop the pinnacle of this balance. It was made to
advertise their new collection of scents ranging from the scenic beaches of Fiji to the snowy peak
of Denali (Mt. McKinley). The commercial illustrates this balance through the use of emotional
appeals, imagery, and appeals to authority and credibility to convince people of the outlandish
benefits of switching to Old Spice, in terms of confidence and sexual appeal.
Old Spice s use of appealing to certain emotions carries strong effects in this commercial. It evokes
a multitude of feelings, anywhere from anger to lust to joy. The commercial

Essay about Criticism of Religion in Voltaire’s Candide
Criticism of Religion in Voltaire s Candide
In his novel Candide, Voltaire often criticized religious beliefs of the times. His criticism of
religion surfaces throughout the entire story. The kindness of the Anabaptist that Candide met
showed the silliness of religious prejudices. The old woman s story of her father, Pope Urban X,
and the life of wealth she lived as a child shows the corruption of the Catholic clergy. Finally, the
conversation Candide and Cacambo had with the old man in Eldorado shows the benefits of a
simple religion, a contrast of the European religions of the time.
During the eighteenth century, the Anabaptists were often persecuted and hated because of their
radical religious beliefs. Voltaire attacked this... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
James, the Anabaptist, witnessed this horrible action towards Candide and invited him into his
own home, served him bread and beer and gave him two florins. Later on, in a journey to Lisbon, a
sailor fell into the ocean, and so James quickly helped him back onto the ship, but, in the course of
his efforts, he was thrown into the sea in full view of the sailor, who let him perish without
deigning even to look at him (28). James kindness resulted in his death. Voltaire included this
Anabaptist in his story to display the silliness of religious prejudices. This man was hated by society
because of his religious views, but he was kind to others, unlike the Protestants and the sailor that
Candide encountered.
Voltaire also criticized the corruption found in the clergy of the Catholic Church. An old
woman took care of Candide after his flogging in Lisbon and reunited him with his long lost
love, Cunegonde. While on a ship, the three exchanged stories of their adventures and the
troubles that they had faced. In the beginning of the old woman s story she said, I am the
daughter of Pope Urban X and the Princess of Palestrina (42). She then talked about the
magnificent palace that she grew up in and the riches that she enjoyed and how she was betrothed
to a prince of Massa Carrara. This story was mentioned in Candide because it showed the
corruption of the Catholic clergy. The pope, a man who was supposed to be celibate and follow the
example of Christ, instead

Should Informational Reports Be Written Directly Or...
Do you think informational reports should be written directly or indirectly? For what reasons
would an analytical report be written with a direct or an indirect approach? State your reasoning.
1) I think informational reports should be written directly because the purpose of these reports are
to inform the reader of something. Therefore, the main idea of the message should be introduced
first. Like an informational report, analytical reports are written to provide information and should
also lay out the findings and data in the beginning, then provide evidence for why things are this
way.
What technology trends do you think will affect business reporting and delivery in the future?
2) As technology progresses, I believe reporting has become hundreds of times faster. With the
technology available, research can be done in a matter of minutes, and when that report is done you
can send it anywhere in the world instantaneously. The website Chron explains: Whether you need
to speak with an employee who is traveling in another state or country or you need to communicate
with your supplier halfway around the world, technology allows you to do so instantaneously. In
fact, according to Walden University, the Internet has allowed business people to communicate
easily regardless of timezone and language issues (Morley, 2016, para 2). ... Show more content on

Relationship Between A Parent And Child Relationship
Throughout history human behavior has held a continuing fascination for artists of all kinds. The
way in which human beings relate to one another has been a source of inspiration to painters,
sculptors, authors, composers, playwrights, filmmakers and photographers alike.
Relationships between people vary from the everyday dynamics and the significance in which they
value one another and each connection between those relationships makes a different impact on the
one of someone else. There are many relationships people form throughout their lives, for instance
the primary relationships at the start of their lives, between parent and child, and siblings, which
start in the home. A relationship between a parent and child has a special unspoken bond in which
they share indescribable love, never ending care and affection for each other, as the parent is the
only depended and reliable thing they have. A good parent and child relationship can teach a child
how to form other bonds with mutual respect and admiration, such as friendships further on in life.
As people grow and develop, they form secondary connections such as friendships and intimate
relationships.
Friendships are predominantly built on trust, even as young children. Interaction with peers helps to
strengthen character and introduces a sense of belonging with others rather than family. Children
are naturally trusting, which means they form bonds with one another instinctively. As they get
older and gain knowledge,

John Updike s A P
In the short story A P by John Updike, we are witnesses to a young man named Sammy and his
encounter with three girls in nothing but bathing suits as well as the general manager of the store,
Lengel, who Sammy describes as a pretty dreary, observant Sunday school teacher. At first glance,
the short storyseems to be just that, but when taking a closer look, we can see that throughout the
story Updike expresses two different themes: desire and the power it wields and the mystery of
other minds. But what does Updike hope to convey to us, the readers, with these themes? As soon
as Queenie , Plaid , and Big Tall Goony Goony walk into the A P they demonstrate their power of
sexuality over all of the men in the store, attracting each and every eye in the building. The three

The Berlin Wall And The Cold War Essay
Perhaps the most visual reference to the Cold War was the Berlin Wall. Although this wall only
existed to divide Berlin into two sides, it became a physical representation of the Cold war for
many and its fall in 1989 has been regarded to many as the end of the Cold War.
I have always been interested in the background history behind the Berlin Wall. Since I started
school in the 80s and was in High School while the Cold Warwas winding down, I don t have a
great personal understanding of many of the events leading up to the Cold War, other than from
history classes and watching movies in school about it. I remember watching the movie Night
Crossing in middle school when we were studying about the Berlin Wall.
When I started looking for topics a few weeks ago I wanted to learn more about the Berlin Wall. I
have since realized that to study the history of the Berlin Wall in one semester is something that
would only allow me to skim through various sources and information, there is simply too much
information to learn and so much of it available that I have chosen to focus my research so far on
the Fall of the Berlin wall. The events of the mid to late 80s that changed the political atmosphere
enough to bring the wall down.
There are numerous Primary Sources available for this study, some I have looked at already are
the 1987 Reagan speech at the Brandenburg gate in Berlin, from which the famous Mr. Gorbachev,
tear down this wall! quote was heard. I have also

series The Fosters represent butch motherhood. My intention is to expose the discourses in action
to reveal how they operate and contain instruction that delivers as disciplinary performance. I divide
the following sections into individual discussions of each cultural text to reveal the cogs within
each site. I then compare and contrast both texts to investigate the tensions between both
productions and how the discourses thematically collude. Finally, this comparative analysis

Reinforcing The Gender Binary
Jules and Nic are slightly ambiguous representations of butch and femme yet the film overtly
reinforces binary gender roles in its homonormative depiction of the family. Nic presents a more
masculine identity: she has messy, cropped hair, wears little makeup, and wears relaxed fitting
jeans and button down dress shirts. She is quick to anger, aggressive, a workaholic doctor, and
operates more on conservatism and logic. Nic is both the disciplinarian and breadwinner in the
family. In contrast, Jules is more visually feminized. She has long, smooth red hair, wears sexy lacy
lingerie, and flowy or fitted t shirts. Free spirit Jules is a more liberal. She is the nurturing parent
emotionally sensitive, compassionate and craves intimacy, characteristics that construct the femme
(Martin 1996). These characteristics that construct Jules are antithetical to masculinity (Crewe
2015). These roles suggest that Nic is the man and Jules is the woman. This homonormative
discourse continues throughout the film in a way that Nic becomes dissonant from the role of
mother.
As the man in the relationship, Nic performatively embodies a dominant, masculine fatherly figure
(Fox 4). In postulating a masculinized identity, she reinscribes heteronormative conventions. This is
established early

Research Paper On The American Dream
American Dream. America, the dreamland for those who have been oppressed, for those who have
been judged, for those who have no freedom. The United States was founded by immigrants that
came with dreams in the search of freedom and wealth. The American dream exists, maybe it varies
from one culture to another, but many persons witnessed how it became a reality. A plethora of
people thinks is a myth, however, most immigrants know that it exists. The American dreamis
defined in the Merriam Webster dictionary as an American social ideal that stresses egalitarianism
and the prosperity or life that is the realization of this ideal . However, Americans define it as an
opportunity for success, as an opportunity for freedom. As Adams, James Truslow say America is

George Orwell grew up a devout and dedicated socialist in the British colonies of India and even
when he eventually studied and lived in England. He was loyal to the beliefs and followings of
socialism s fathers, Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels, the authors of The Communist Manifesto and
Das Kapital. However, when Orwell saw the ideals of Socialism turned into vicious Communism,
taking advantage of and abusing the lower classes that it was intended to help, he could not turn a
blind eye to the cruelties and hypocrisies of the totalitarian Communism under the dictatorial reign
of Joseph Stalin. Therefore, Orwell wrote two greatest anti Communist novels that solidified his

The pigs, whom had hastily recognized themselves as the intelligent leaders of their comrades,
formulated the fundamentals of success on Animal Farm with a philosophy called Animalism.
Animalism, unbeknownst to them, was based upon the principles of Socialism, where each and
every animal or comrade was treated equally and fairly in a classless and casteless society.
Furthermore, with these moral standards put in place, the pigs drafted the Seven
Commandments so that the comrades shall never forget and stray from their newfound
benevolence and philanthropy and wrote them on the barn wall for all to see. The
Commandments included: 1. Whatever goes upon two legs is an enemy. 2. Whatever goes upon
four legs, or has wings, is a friend. 3. No animal shall wear clothes. 4. No animal shall sleep in a
bed. 5. No animal shall drink alcohol. 6. No animal shall kill any other animal. 7. All animals are
equal. The unintelligent animals, such as the sheep, were forced to turn the Seven Commandments
into one maxim of Four legs good, two legs bad.

Claude Garamond Research Paper
Claude Garamond was born in 1499 in Paris, France. As an apprentice in 1510 with a printer and
a Parisian punch cutter, Claude Garamond was able to specialize in printer and typeface
services to publishers. Being the first to design type, Claude Garamond was determined to be
his own publisher and use his font designs in his works. With being a type designer, Claude
Garamond made sure to rely on his own creativity to showcase his craft as a designer as well as
to be able to discipline himself in his own work of craftsmanship. With his discipline of his own
craft, this represented a specific talent as well as catering to those of high regards in society.
Because Garamond was also in the print industry, also specializing in punch cutting and binding, his
knowledge of format was essential in addition to his type design. In the formatting of his

Sweet Home Analysis
This trauma is caused by the invasion of Sweet Home into the healing space that once was 124.
Sweet Home is the location in which slavery occurs; therefore, marking it as a site of trauma that
inhabits the memories of Sethe and Paul D. As Jesser mentions, Sweet Home is the reference point
through which Sethe makes her decisions about the future. It is also the place that they belonged to
and that belonged to them. For Denver, it is a site of exclusion. She challenges their attachments to
each and to the past (Jesser 329). While Sweet Homewas once considered a place of nice slavery,
it now houses the memories of trauma for those who witnessed and experienced it. For Denver,
who has no actual memories of slavery for herself, she is still affected by slavery because it

What it is, it comes from outside this house, outside the yard, and it can come right on in the
yard if it wants to. So I never leave this house and I watch over the yard, so it can t happen again
and my mother won t have to kill me too (Morrison 242). The institution of slavery causes trauma
for Denver because she understands that it can happen again at any moment. Even though she
was born outside of Sweet Home, Denver was born into it the institution of slavery because of her
mother and father s positions. Therefore, the presence of Sweet Home as a traumatic space
inhabits and reinforces the traumatic memories of the family within 124. Through the
incorporation of Sweet Home in 124, Morrison emphasizes how the institution of slavery
functions as the origin of trauma for these characters. After 124 gets invaded by trauma, Denver s
only healing space becomes the school at Lady Jones house, which allows Denver to acknowledge
her trauma. This school functions as the first site of potential healing for Denver because it enables
her to leave the trauma of 124 and

As well as this, productive working relationships enable consistent messages to be communicated to
the shareholders to keep them informed about the business. Improved customer service can also be
seen with working relationships, which is important in the retail industry and no less so when
working in a company such as GAP and according to their training programme, Provide exceptional
customer service, to meet their customer s requirements.
Developmental Stages
From the early stages of a team forming, to the end when a team complete its goal(s) there are
many dis agreements that need to resolved and many responsibilities to be taken up and these are
shown, (albeit with differing opinions), by several theorists.
In 1965, B. Tuckman published his idea of how groups assemble by using his Forming, Storming,
Norming and Performing model . You could say that his theory is a helpful explanation of team
development, but they may differ from one individual to another. The model does explain how the
team develops its maturity, through establishing working relationships. It also connotes the
leadership style changing; from a directing style, to coaching, then participating and delegating
before almost being detached.
Stage one of his model is the Forming stage, where the leader must be prepared to answer many
questions about the team s purpose and objectives. Usual team processes are often ignored and
there is also a high dependence on

  • 2. Difference Between Speaking And Wring The difference between speaking and wring in English is the way it is perceived. It is varied from context and is reliant on context. When language is spoken, it is a form of behaviour made up of different dialects and morality. The context of which English is spoken or written has a dramatic influence, languageis changed by different situations that a person is exposed to, Formal and informal, social events, professional events or cultural influences. Each context is made up of different surroundings and people in which are part of the communication. Different language can be used within the same context and be different from person to person. For example in a classroom the language used between and a teacher and student would be different to that of a peer to peer interaction. When speaking, people are usually face to face, therefore they can rely on such extra linguistic clues as facial expression and gesture to aid meaning. Written English is more reliant on the development of careful organisation and compact expression, with often intricate sentence structure (Crystal, 2005). Speaking English Within Gee Hayes (2011) the authors suggest that language can be understood as a cognitive process, something that is in our head, our brain and minds that tell us how to speak. Another view is that it is a physical aspect that is present in the form of speech, recordings and writings. It can also be viewed as a means of social convention shared by a group of people, about ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Essay about Equality vs. Athletics Equality vs. Athletics In 1929, the 19th Amendment gave women the right to vote. This was a breakthrough for America and an enormous step towards equal opportunities for women everywhere. Being given the right to vote created a sense of long awaited and greatly deserved equality with men. Even though women were given the right to vote, over 70 years ago, the government still has to make a law to ensure that equal treatment is given. Title IX was instated in 1972 to provide women with the same athletic opportunities as men in universities across the United States. While Title IX has helped advance female athletics, there are arguments that it has discriminated against male athletics. Attorney Curt Levey makes a drastically bias ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Fewer than 30,000 females participated in intercollegiate athletics due to lack of opportunities provided by colleges. After Title IX was established, women who participated in athletics had an increased chance for opportunities. Since Title IX was introduced in 1972 female athletic participation has increased more than 403% since 1971. By 2001 2.8 million females participated in athletics, which makes up 43% of college varsity athletics. These numbers show an obvious increase in female athletics and prove that Title IX has helped in the advancement of women s equality (Title IX at Thirty: Report Card on Gender Equity 14 16). Levey s main argument with Title IX was based on the negative effect of the proportionality rule. His argument states that in order to comply with the proportionality rule, upper level schools have to comply with cutting male athletics (Levey 626). However, it has been stated that male athletics, at both high school and college levels, are continually increasing with the rate of female athletics. In the case of Brentwood Academy vs. Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association (TSSAA) reports state that the TSSAA were not following ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. For My Research Paper, I Desired To Learn More About Juvenile For my research paper, I desired to learn more about juvenile delinquency in Frederick County by researching and finding what crimes are most common and what sentences or court dispositions are common for juveniles found guilty of crimes. I know that court dispositions frequently result in probation and that Frederick County does not have a Juvenile Detention center, therefore I was most interested in how probation was implemented in Frederick County and other counties in Maryland and what other probation programs Maryland currently implements or implemented in the past. I was also interested in the profession of a juvenile probation officer in Maryland such as the job requirements, daily responsibilities, etc. The last information I... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Probation is the nonpunitive, legal disposition of offenders that emphasizes community treatment. During probation, the offender is closely supervised by a probation officer and must adhere to strict guidelines; if any guidelines are violated the offender can be incarcerated. Within the juvenile court system in Maryland and across the country, probation is the most frequently used disposition. Through conducting an email interview with Bill Keefer, Case Management Program Supervisor for the Department of Juvenile Services Office in Frederick County, and through further research, I have been able to learn more about juvenile crime rates in Frederick County and common court dispositions following those crime. I was also able to learn more about the profession of a juvenile probation officer and about how probation is being implemented for juveniles in Frederick County and other counties throughout Maryland. I have also found other non traditional juvenile probation initiatives that are currently being implemented or have been implemented in the past in Maryland. A juvenile probation officer, which is known as a Case Management Specialist in Maryland, is in charge of coordinating and implementing the delivery of services and treatment plans for juveniles on informal supervision, probation supervision, aftercare supervision, detained pending trial or disposition, or committed to the Department of Juvenile ... • 5. Adverse Selection Research Paper Adverse selection Individuals who are sick are more likely to purchase health insurance than healthy people. This sicker population might utilize a significant amount of healthcare services. In order to cater to this demand insurance companies will resort to raising the premiums, dissuading healthy people from buying insurance. As the pool of people covered by insurance becomes sicker it continues to drive up costs leading to a vicious cycle where each year fewer and fewer healthy individuals obtain insurance. This process is called adverse selection. By implementing the individual mandate, we introduce healthy people into the insurance pool. The healthy individuals mitigate the cost of sicker individuals. As a result of requiring people ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. The Enlargement Of Nato And European Union Eastern Europe has never had a stable political atmosphere compared to the Western countries, which can be observed as a major threat to any MNC trying to penetrate this market. Most of these countries were under a communist regime and have gained their independence rather recently (Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, and Macedonia became independent in early 1990 s, by separating from Yugoslavia, and Moldova, Ukraine and Belarusgained their independence in 1991, with the fall of Soviet Union). The influence of communistic philosophy, therefore, can explain the difficulties these countries were facing when they tried to integrate and approach the West. Even though the enlargement of NATO and European Union was a strategic move to make a political and economic reform in this particular region, which would help it in a better integration with western countries, the recent rise of nationalist and populist forces in several countries in eastern Europe, threatens to undermine the reform process. [1] Happenings such as the Orange Revolution in 2004 and Crimea crisis in 2014 in Ukraine, or the authoritarian ruling style by the Belarus president Aleksandr Lukasenko (who still sustains close political and economic ties with Russia and bans political and civil freedom in the country) are solid indicators of an ongoing political instability in this area. On the other hand, countries such as Romania (which also had a rocky history of decades long dictatorship of Nicolai Ceausescu), ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Governing Board s Role Governing Board s Role The governing boards role is very important when it comes to discussing what is happening within a healthcare organization and making sure things are been done to their ethical standards. The primary role of governing boards is to make sure that the mission statement includes things that are needed from the public and to make sure that those people hired for this company are able to uphold to the ethnical code that is given by the healthcare organization. The board s duty of assuring that there is an effective strategy process has to go well beyond requiring and overseeing the periodic production of a strategic plan (Morrill, 2013, pg. 14). Every plan that is put in more requires way much more than just coming up with the plan, it requires that there is no steps left out of the final decision and that things are handled in the proper manner. Overall, the governing board has a great responsibility along with the CEO when it comes to handling things in an ethical manner. Key Performance Dimensions In order to make sure the healthcare organization is doing everything to provide the best care for their patients and that the facility is doing everything that they can to ensure that, some type of performance measurements need to be used. Performance measurement systems employed in healthcare must be capable of not only meeting expectations of different stakeholder, but also of giving the most realistic image of the status and the progress that are being made to the system (Doolen, Enami, 2015, pg. 427). By using performance measurements, the facility can see what they are doing wrong and in what ways they can improve service the patients next visit to ensure their voice was heard by the facility. • 8. Mambouna During The Industrial Revolution A general strike in Dakar, with the exception of railway workers, guaranteed wage increases, family allowances for government workers, the recognition of unions, the expansion of wage hierarchies, and bonuses for seniority. (Aurora Munoz) Several important changes drove the members of the Railway Workers Union to lead to a memorable strike. The railways had been transferred to a parastatal group, which means that it was now owned wholly by the government. This changed meant that the railroad workers could no longer benefit from the status of civil servants. The parastatal group was set up in a hierarchical fashion. At the bottom of the pyramid were mostly Africans, meaning they receive fewer benefits than everyone else. Most of the African ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Everyone classifies her in the novel as a slut because she is a prostitute, but it has its benefits. Her character is unique because she is outspoken but sets goals for herself and pursues them. She is a born leader and a force to be reckoned with. Lahbib said, She kept the women in line, and she forced even the men to respect her. (Ousmane 143) When one of the workmen had stupidly patted her on the behind, she gave him a resounding smack. A woman slapping a man in public was something no one had ever seen before. (Ousmane 143) What makes Penda s character so interesting is that she possesses the qualities of both Maimouna and Ramatoulaye, two other important figures in the novel. She is a genuine loving and caring person like Maimouna but stands up for justice like Ramatoulaye. Penda obtained these qualities for a while. From her earliest childhood she had demonstrated a resolute independence which only increased as she grew up. • 10. Traditional Society And New Colonial Society Essay In many of the books we read traditional society and new colonial society clashed when brought together. Most of the time the colonial society overtook the traditional beliefs and forced the populations to convert to European ideals. This often manifested within religious practices. When people were made to give up thousands of years worth of customs they did not willingly convert. This often hostile takeover then isolated people from each other and made peace difficult to achieve. In both Things Fall Apartand The Wine of Astonishment a colonial power comes into a culture and tears it apart. By outlawing common practices many people held dear to their hearts, the new governments hurt the population more than helped. For a short time people would accept the new ways and try to comply with the new restrictions on their culture. As more and more restrictions were added people stopped following the new traditions and went back to their lives. This led to governments terrorizing citizens and made people not trust those with power. Forced modernization was bad for the native people of Africa and the Caribbean. A common way that modern and traditional culture clashed was in religion. When it comes to converting people to Christianity, missionaries try to reform the area they are in. On the continent of Africa the Portuguese were the first to send missionaries. They continued the practice for centuries. One group of people would be selected to reform first with the hope the rest ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

She shows shows how many different people view North Dakota and how many believe it is just another ugly desert. Marquaty was also able to use ad hominem in the way she described the place she grew up in. In using emotional appeal, she wants to make the audience feel a certain way about North Dakota. Marquart does this when she says, being blond, fresh faced, band Midwestern makes their descent into ruthless behavior in places like Los Angeles and New York all the more tragic, (Marquart L. 17 20). She wants everyone to be open minded about the place she grew up in. Even though she speaks badly about it, she does it so that others can see what it looks like to speak badly about a place someone calls home. Marquart wants to show the audience that between the years 1885 and 1911, people viewed the Midwest as a beautiful and exceptional Place everyone wanted to go to. Marquart says, They traveled to the Midwest by train to what was then the end of the line Eureka, South Dakota... I have found it ... My grandparents wouldn t have known the etymology of the word, but they would have felt it, the anticipation, as they waited along with the other immigrants from Russia to receive their allotments of land, ( Marquart L. 64 74). This quote shows how back in the eighteenth and nineteen hundreds, people view the Midwest as a chance to make it to something amazing. She shows this part at the end because she wants to show the audience that even though throughout the whole passage she speaks badly of it, there is always a small amount of good in everything. The four groups of followers operated as alienated followers, sheep, yes people, and survivors, all lacking the key factor of being able to succeed without strong leadership. Sheep lack initiative and sense of responsibility, while yes people refuse to be against the leader (Wren 195). Alienated followers tend to think more independently but are prone to group think. They are normally dissatisfied and/or resentful. Any of these three groups can at any time merge into the survivor group because this group of followers operate under the slogan better safe than sorry (Wren 195). In Ancient Egypt, between the paws of the Great Sphinx, lies a fourteen foot red granite tablet. This tablet, known as the Dream Stele, is inscribed with the tale of The Prince and The Sphinx. This story is about the prince, Thutmose IV, and his unusual interaction with the god, Harmachis or Horus in the Horizon, who is a manifestation of the sun god and is often depicted as a sphinx (Hornung, 130). This story is not unique to Ancient Egyptsince there is a similar story found in the Bible. In the first book of the Bible, Genesis, there is the story of Joseph. Joseph, a shepherd from Canaan, was an interpreter of dreams who found himself in quite the predicament. Both of these tales have uncanny similarities to each other. The first parallel between the two stories is that both Thutmose IV and Joseph had many brothers and half brothers who hated them because they were the favorite sons. Their brothers held such jealousy against them that they tried to kill them. In the tale of The Prince and The Sphinx, Thutmose IV was the Pharaoh s favourite son, because of this his brothers were forever plotting against him...the plots were aimed at his very life (Green, 57). • 18. On Liberty Speech Analysis This essay will explain Mill s view regarding freedom of expression and apply it to a modern concern regarding hate speech. In On Liberty, Mill argues in favor of nearly unrestricted freedom of expression in accordance with the harm principle because limiting the opinions of others hinders the marketplace of ideas or clashing of views to allow for the truthto rise to the top through refinement or exchanging false beliefs for truths. Mill explicitly states that silencing speech is an evil that robs the human race, posterity as well as the existing generation.... It robs those who disagree with these silenced opinions. Mill s view is utilitarian because minimizing speech is socially advantageous because it allows people to learn from the choices, actions, and experiences of others. Additionally, this view is utilitarian because limiting speech would lead to even worse harm than simply tolerating hateful or harmful speech. The main arguments that Mill presents in favor of his view in favor of almost complete freedom of expression. First, allowing government censorship allows for the government to act with infallibility to what is right or true. To refuse hearing opposing opinions because the government is sure the belief to be false is to assume that their certainty is absolute certainty. Instead, allowing for near unlimited freedom of expression allows for the consideration of thoughts. This allows us as citizens to evaluate and critique other government and our own governments that have been wrong in the past. By allowing for the presentation of contrary views, we as humans can be aware of past mistakes and come to know the truth. For example, allowing for Galileo arguing that the Earth revolves around the Sun allowed for correcting the false belief that the Earth is at the center of the universe. While this allowance can lead to risky behaviors, prejudices or other harms, Mill hold that regardless, it is worth these risks and challenges because this can lead to finding truths or correcting truths. Second, Mill argues that allowing for falsehoods to be spoken, even if wholly false, can have some kernels of truth that lead to truths for that issue or truths of other issues. Suppressing speech can lead to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Geoffrey Trease did the title of the novel Cue for Treason justice and he kept the significance of it in many ways. First of all, the conspirators and villagers of England did not like the changes that Queen Elizabeth I was making and they started turning against her. Secondly, the treason is that Sir Philip Morton and other conspirators are planning to overthrow the government. We all know a person who looks very confident and put together on the outside, but a conversation with them reveals that much is lacking in their personality. Similarly, commercials can appear fun or exciting, but upon further inspection it is greatly lacking in depth. Because of this, creating commercials is a balance between providing information and keeping the viewers engaged. The process isn t simply writing a script containing only style and no substance, or one with only substance and no style. With the former, a commercial could capture the audience s attention, but provides no supporting information; the latter, provides an excessive amount of information, but does not seize the viewers. Creating commercials pines for the utmost balance; if the balance is off by a fraction, it could mean the difference between a million dollars or zero. The Old Spice Scent Vacation commercial sits atop the pinnacle of this balance. It was made to advertise their new collection of scents ranging from the scenic beaches of Fiji to the snowy peak of Denali (Mt. McKinley). The commercial illustrates this balance through the use of emotional appeals, imagery, and appeals to authority and credibility to convince people of the outlandish benefits of switching to Old Spice, in terms of confidence and sexual appeal. Like an informational report, analytical reports are written to provide information and should also lay out the findings and data in the beginning, then provide evidence for why things are this way.
