The mobile landscape continues to evolve rapidly, so companies must start leveraging mobile now to engage customers across all platforms and build for the future of connected devices.
Startup Turkey _ Mobile Where All Technologies EmergeMonitise MEA
This document summarizes mobile technology trends from 2006 to 2014. It notes that during this period smartphones and tablets did not yet exist, and voice, text, and web were the main mobile channels. By 2014, half the world owned smartphones, and mobile platforms had fragmented across Android, iOS, Windows, and others. The document also outlines key company and product milestones like the iPhone, Android, iPad, and increasing mobile app usage. It profiles Turkey's position regarding mobile adoption and the work of Pozitron, a Turkish mobile development company.
Apps are small programs available on mobile devices that fall into categories like games, social networking, books, etc. Most apps cost between free and $2, with games being the most popular category downloaded. While app downloads and engagement are initially high across categories, they generally drop off steeply over time except for entertainment and lifestyle apps. Free apps see lower engagement rates over time compared to paid apps, though the rates even out. Android is gaining rapidly in available apps and downloads compared to iOS as its app store becomes more open.
The document discusses the rise of native smartphone apps and the potential challenges they face from HTML5. It notes that while native apps have driven huge growth, consumers may find managing and updating many apps to be limiting. HTML5 offers an alternative for delivering content and apps directly through the web browser, avoiding issues like platform fragmentation and high development costs for native apps. The economics also favor HTML5 over native apps beyond a certain volume of users. Overall, HTML5 could fundamentally disrupt the current mobile app ecosystem.

This document summarizes a presentation on mobile applications and trends. It discusses growth in smartphone usage and mobile internet data. Key trends include the ubiquity of mobile devices, increasing capabilities of mobile platforms, and the convergence of these capabilities. Technical considerations for developing mobile apps include supporting multiple platforms, speed optimization, and touch interfaces. Frameworks can help but design expertise is still important. The organization discussed had success with an initial mobile app but downloads dropped off without ongoing promotion. Setting clear goals and aligning mobile strategies with broader organizational goals are important lessons learned.
The document discusses mobile input and forms. It makes three main points:
1. Put effort into input where there is the most payoff, such as on capable smartphones where input is easier. However, don't forget about SMS input which is widely used.
2. Take the pain out of forms by shortening them, using better layouts like top-aligned labels, defining clear input types, and using smart defaults to reduce input needed.
3. Look beyond traditional forms for input, such as using SMS, touch-friendly layouts, and leveraging new HTML5 input types. Focus on making input as easy as possible across different mobile devices.

Pick Your Poison – Mobile Web, Native or Hybrid?Effective
Presented at Denver Startup Week - October 2012
As developers, one of the largest challenges is deciding what kind of mobile application to build: mobile web, hybrid, or native mobile. This is a thorny question because there isn’t a black-and-white answer. The solution can sit anywhere from pure mobile web to pure native mobile, or somewhere in between. In this session, Shane Church, technical lead at EffectiveUI, uncovers how the answer is tied to deep consideration of architecture decisions, the needs of the user, and the business goals for both the short and long term. He goes step-by-step through the questions and project considerations they should address when preparing to embark on a mobile development project. You'll learn that your responses to these questions will drive a clear path to the right decision that keeps end-users and organizational goals in line.
Pick Your Poison – Mobile Web, Native, or Hybrid? - Denver Startup Week - Oct...Shane Church
This document discusses the options for developing mobile applications: native, mobile web, and hybrid. Native apps are built using platform-specific languages and have the richest user experience but require developing for each platform. Mobile web apps use web technologies and have the broadest reach but limited access to device capabilities. Hybrid apps combine web technologies with native wrappers for full capabilities across platforms but native interactions are not perfect. The document provides examples and guidance on selecting the right approach based on user needs, capabilities required, and platforms to support.

Removing Uninteresting Bytes in Software FuzzingAftab Hussain
Imagine a world where software fuzzing, the process of mutating bytes in test seeds to uncover hidden and erroneous program behaviors, becomes faster and more effective. A lot depends on the initial seeds, which can significantly dictate the trajectory of a fuzzing campaign, particularly in terms of how long it takes to uncover interesting behaviour in your code. We introduce DIAR, a technique designed to speedup fuzzing campaigns by pinpointing and eliminating those uninteresting bytes in the seeds. Picture this: instead of wasting valuable resources on meaningless mutations in large, bloated seeds, DIAR removes the unnecessary bytes, streamlining the entire process.
In this work, we equipped AFL, a popular fuzzer, with DIAR and examined two critical Linux libraries -- Libxml's xmllint, a tool for parsing xml documents, and Binutil's readelf, an essential debugging and security analysis command-line tool used to display detailed information about ELF (Executable and Linkable Format). Our preliminary results show that AFL+DIAR does not only discover new paths more quickly but also achieves higher coverage overall. This work thus showcases how starting with lean and optimized seeds can lead to faster, more comprehensive fuzzing campaigns -- and DIAR helps you find such seeds.
