The Angiosperm Phylogeny Group (APG) is an informal collective of botanists focused on establishing a consensus taxonomy for flowering plants based on molecular and phylogenetic research. The APG classification systems (I-IV) progressively updated the arrangement of angiosperms, recognizing new orders and families while emphasizing monophyly and discarding outdated classifications. While the APG system has gained influence and acceptance among major herbaria, it also has limitations, such as restricted taxonomic levels and some unresolved families.
