Design A Functional Prototype Of Monitoring System
1.0 INTRODUCTION
The purpose of this project is to design a functional prototype of monitoring system for a security
purpose and the system use WIFI as a transmission medium.
Standard monitoring systems such as CCTV use cable to connect from a camera to the monitoring
station. This project is intended to use a wireless transmission to transmit video from camera to
monitoring station. This project also to overcome the power supply issues of main power supply to
operate the device. The uninterruptible power supply is use as a main power supply to prevent
disturbance that may cut off the power supply.
It is important to get high quality video display on monitor and the video can be transmitting to the
monitoring station via WIFI.
1.0 PROBLEM STATEMENT
These days, most devices and applications for remote monitoring purposes are suffering with power
supply disruption and limited access of monitoring place. This is due to the place where device is
installed that far from power grid and also due to the limited control room for monitoring stations. In
that case, if there is a sudden failure in power supply, the devices will not functioning. This remote
monitoring system use a solar panel as a power input because this application base on green
technology. Green technology mean that this device not use plug n play concept but use solar panel as
a source to operate the system. The failure of the device to function will give impact to the devices
that has to recorded,

Kenya s Agriculture And Economics Of Kenya
Most people correlate Kenya to long distance runners, of the beginning of man, its plethora of
wildlife, and maybe Barack Obama. However, what they may have not contemplated was Kenya s
agriculture and how it has affected the culture and economics of Kenya. Tea, coffee, sisal, pyrethrum,
corn, and wheat are grown in the fertile highlands, one of the most successful agricultural production
regions in Africa. Production is mainly on small African owned farms formed from the division of
formerly European owned estates. Coffee in Kenya is big business, but it is grown mainly on small
farms by farmer s co ops working together. Looking into Kenya s past will help to clarify how coffee
became an agricultural commodity, and give insight into its beginnings. Before outsiders came into
Africa, the country now known as Kenya, was a nomadic area inhabited by Cushite people. It was not
until the first century B.C. when Arabic people came to the area as traders. They soon began to
colonize areas along the coast of the Indian Ocean. Also in the first century the Bantu began to settle
areas inland from the coast. It took Europeans over fourteen hundred more years to make their way to
Kenya. Kenya was now under the rule of the Portuguese. From the sixteenth until the nineteenth
century Kenya was an Islamic state, then it became a British colony. It was in the 19th century when
an eastern area of Africa becomes Kenya. In 1888, Kenya comes under British rule,

Stonehenge
Nothing in the life was built for nothing. Everything has a reason. The same apply for Stonehenge,
pyramids, and many other ancients structures. Stonehenge is one of the oldest unsolved mysteries in
the world. The ancient stone is located in Wiltshire, England. English Heritage organization is the
responsible for looking after the monuments included with the Stonehenge. People always ask how
come a monument was built before 3000 B.C. with naked hands. In this paper, the history of
Stonehenge and most common myths of Stonehenge will be discussed in brief lines. Then, what the
author thinks Stonehenge was built for would be discussed.
Stonehenge history is one of the unsolved mystery by itself because the size of the stones. 3000 B.C.
was a rough age that s the people didn t had the technology to carry these rocks. Researchers found
that the gigantic stone used to build Stonehenge were brought from different area. The assumption is
that the stones were carried and brought from somewhere else not close.
Stonehenge was evolved and expanded in multi stages. It has gone under modification era after era.
The builders aren t known. In fact, the purpose or the theory behind Stonehenge is another puzzle hasn
t been solved yet. Since the age of the Stonehenge is beyond imagination, people came up with many
myths about Stonehenge.
Stonehenge may be built as an astronomical calendar. The way that the stones

Jeremy In The Wild Analysis
I just want to start off by saying that I really enjoyed watching survivor this year. The show is
unscripted and completely in the wild. This means there are very limited cultural influences of the
contestants and we, as viewers, get to see firsthand the actions and the thoughts of the contestants.
Psychology is the scientific study of behaviour and mental processes, and survivor provides a prime
real life example for us to do this. I just want to get it out there now that I think Keith should ve won,
however, I think Jeremy is still a very worthy winner. There were several ways that players chose to
outwit, outlast, and outplay this season that can all be illustrated by psychological principles.
Examples of these include: Hindsight bias,

Impact Of Black Friday
Impact of Black Friday on Society
We already know that the Black Friday is an American tradition that consists of a drop in prices in
major stores, during the last Friday of November, coinciding with the opening of Christmas shopping.
But what is the origin of this celebration?
The first use of the term Black Friday occurred not to refer to Christmas shopping, but in relation to an
economic crisis: on Friday, September 24, 1869, two relentless Wall Street financiers, Jay Gould and
Jim Fisk, After an intense work to obtain great benefits, they failed in their efforts, and the market
went bankrupt. For that reason, that day was named as the Black Friday .
Another of the stories that accompany the term Black Friday has to do with the role of small
businesses in the market. Tradition has it that, after a whole year of losses, finally, after Thanksgiving,
the Christmas season arrived, the day from which the benefits began, and with them, instead of red
numbers, black numbers were produced.
Others claim that its origin dates back to November 19, 1975, the day in which the New York Times
first coined the adjective black to refer to the disorder of the traffic and the chaos that had occurred in
the city of Nueva York in that year, due to discounts the day after Thanksgiving.
The tradition is indeed a positive practice for the economy of a country, simultaneously, gives the
possibility to millions of hard workers to recover their lost through the year, and to

Importance Of Bilingual Education
Bilingualism has been always a part of the U.S. history. In the early days of exploration and
colonization, French, Spanish, Dutch, and German were as common as English. No doubt many of the
inhabitants were conversant in more than two languages. Underlining the importance of the bilingual
education in United States there are many different types of educational programs that exist for
emergent bilinguals. The historical concept of these programs shows the shift from a focus on the
home language and toward English only instruction.
As Ovando (2003) writes The 18th and 19th century responses to language diversity were shaped by
changing localized political, social, and economic forces rather than by any systematic ideas about
language itself (p. 4). 1700s to the 1880s were a time frame where a fair amount of tolerance neglect
existed toward the many languages. 1880s were the turning point in the historical development of
linguistic and restrictions in immigration policy.
Civil Rights Act Title VI and Bilingual Education Act Title VII are two examples of the rebirth of
bilingual education. Civil Rights Act Title VI prohibits discrimination based on race, color, and
national origin, prohibits denial of equal access to education due to limited English proficiency.
Bilingual Education Act Title VII recognizes the unique educational disadvantages faced by non
English speaking students, establish a federal policies to assist educational agencies, to serve students

Cultural Impacts Of Globalization
ABSTRACT
Globalization can be defined as a system of interaction or increasing global relationships between
cultures, people, and economic activities among the countries of the world. Globalization in its
simpler form refers to conglomerate exchange of languages, ideas, and cultures. Behaviour or impacts
of Globalization differ from country to country having a demarcation between developed countries
like Britain and developing countries. Some critics allege that it has been footing down the cultural
values and increasing conflicts between two nations. Globalization is a double edged sword as it
impacts and affects all generations of people, economically, politically, environmentally, and
culturally. While Globalization has its benefits millions of people around the world are now more
empowered because of global interconnectedness there are still many problems that can and already
have risen from cultural and economic development around the world KEYWORDS: globalisation,
environment, opportunity.
INTRODUCTION The historical origin of the process of Globalization is debatable as in common
usage refers to late twentieth century but some scholars regard it as having ancient history. One can
confirm this by observing the trade patterns between the empires in ancient times. Some examples
such as Silk Road between eastern world and Ottoman Empire, trade links between Roman Empire
and India can be cited. Another stage of Globalization began during the Islamic age with the

Madonna And Virgin And Child Essay
The Medieval Ages marked thirteenth century Europe, but steady progression towards the fourteenth
century showed a contrasting image of the world. The Renaissance movement slowly overshadowed
the Gothic and Italo Byzantine characteristics that dominated Medieval Europe in favor of the
resurgence of classical antiquity. Late fourteenth to early fifteenth century artwork exemplified the
development of Greco Roman naturalism the increased piety of Italians evident on the heavy demand
for devotional images, and the expanding consciousness of philosophical and scholastic abstractions
relating to the natural world. Likewise, the Master of Straus Madonna s Madonna and Child of the

The frames of both paintings are gold and ornate, but more importantly, both have the same phrases
engraved below the painting. Ave Maria Gratia Plena are the words of Catholic devotional prayer
typically spoken with rosary beads, and directed towards the Virgin Mary. Personal devotions became
an increasingly common practice during the late 1340 s, following the proliferation of the Black Death
especially within populated Italian cities (Gardner, p.406). Responding to the growing fervor for the
Bible, artists receive many commissions to conceive biblical legends into reality. The Madonna and
Christ child in both Strauss Madonna and Virgin and Child convey an allegorical and symbolistic
representation of Resurrection: the parallel of the sacrifice of the Christ s body to the suffering of
humans. Jesus Christ s suffering through crucifiction and physical worldly suffering. Despite the
celestial backgrounds and striking halos, Master of Straus Madonna and Romano illustrates these
venerated idols as humans. Tale dictates that a goldfinch received a red spot from the blood of Jesus
after pulling a thorn from his head as he approached closer to the time of his crucifixion. The
goldfinch held by infant Christ serves as a reminder that God lived as a man and died as a man, and a
consolation to the audience that suffering and death will lead to human

Binary Data Analysis
Satellite sensors send bits of binary data to ground stations on Earth for processing into useful
meteorological and environmental information enabling enhanced decision making capabilities.
Thereby, preventing injuries and fatalities, preserving assets, and reducing time delays. Binary data are
comprised of zeroes and ones. One bit contains either a 0 or a 1 . A single bit, in and of itself, does not
have a lot of value until it is used. The same is true of information. Information does not have value
until it is utilized.
Prior attempts to value information have used deterministic methods. However, these methods have
been less than successful. There tends to be a level of uncertainty associated with information, and ...

This framework can be used to evaluate the efficiency and effectiveness of various types of data
sources in relation to other types of data sources. For instance, how does data from buoys contributes
to forecast accuracy versus data ingested from microwave, satellite sensors versus measurements
obtained from radio occultation sensors versus observations from sondes, etc. The framework can be
applied at the macro or micro level. Although macro level uses should be considered a rough order of
magnitude. It is important when doing comparisons that the data is normalized at the lowest level
possible (ideally bits) is used. Consistent, standardized data is required for this type of analysis.
Dollarizing the results is optional. Pegging the results to a currency will provide a benchmark for
accessing the value of meteorological and environmental information enabling better valuation
assessments from source to source and program to program. The pegging can be altered as better
insights are gained from actual results. In this case, the data were pegged to a less volatile digital
currency. The currency is less stable than the dollar (currently), but then information downlinked from
satellites is less stable than the words printed in a book. The selected digital currency has been tested
as a valid method for transmitting data and conducting transactions. In addition, pegging to a

Difference Between Working Class And Poor Mothers
For working class and poor mothers, intensive mothering and consumerism are still equally linked to
their view of themselves as good mothers. The only difference between working class and poor
mothers versus middle and upper class women is that the working class/poor have to work harder to
attain the good mother status. According to Takseva (2014), Children can be used as an object of
display conferring the desired social status (p.224) and, Membership in a group is often defined
through the purchasing of goods and services (p.225). Therefore, mothers who do not present their
children in the best clothes or toys are seen as bad mothers, so mothers of the lower classes have to
work harder to ascribe their children the same status as the children in upper classes. Many working
class mothers experience guilt that due to the lack of financial resources they are not being good
mothers because they cannot provide their children with the same life chances that they would if they
had more money (Takseva, 2014, p.227). These mothers find alternative strategies to define
themselves as good mothers such as knowing where and when to shop for bargains, and actively
engaging their children into understanding what products can/cannot be purchased so that they have
realistic expectations (Takseva, 2014, p.227). However, on the other extreme intensive mothering is so
prevalent in today s society that, Parents will go against their better judgment about budgets, in the

HTML5 And The Future Of Technical Documentation
HTML5 and the Future of Technical Documentation By: Jessica Morley
May 2015 Introduction: A Crossroad in History
T
echnical writing is at a crossroad in history. Gone are the days when people read technical
documentation from print in manuals, books, inserts, or pamphlets. Likewise, the practice of reading
documentation from a CD Rom or desktop software application is quickly becoming a thing of the
past. Today, if people want technical information, they go straight to their browsers to find what they
re looking for.
With the advent of handheld smart phones, laptops, and tablets, teamed with the ubiquity of reliable
internet connection everywhere, people demand versatile, responsive, and accessible documentation
that can meet their information needs. HTML5, the new HTML standard officially recommended in
October 2014, is the World Wide Web Consortium s (W3C s) answer to this new age of high speed on
demand information, and technical writers are beginning to take notice. However, the question
remains: should technical writers adapt to this new wave of technology, and if so, to what extent will
HTML5 impact the user experience and the technical writing process?
There are a growing number of technical writers who are just shy of entirely enthusiastic for this brave
new world of technology. Peter Lubbers, an experienced technical writer, published author, and
current Senior Program Manager at Google, is one such individual who may tip the scale on the
enthusiasm

Accounting At The University Of Florida
1. I am currently studying Accounting at the University of Florida with the possibility of pursuing an
education in tax law while in graduate school. Accounting appealed to me as a good major because I
am interested in how to develop or maintain a successful business. I choose to pursue an Accounting
over a General Business degree because learning the value of how to handle and manage finances is
critical to understanding how a business operates. An Accounting degree also opens up many doors in
the business world, which can help me achieve my goal of becoming a CFO or CEO.
2. Ideally I picture myself 5 years from now working as a basic accountant in one of the Big Four
accounting companies. I see this as a good future goal because of ... Show more content on

Since Accounting is so hands on I believe experience shadowing or working with other accountants
would help me, because I would get to see how the accounting system works when everything isn t in
proper order or some financials are missing. I consider that experience invaluable because it teaches
me what I can not learn in a classroom and helps expand my knowledge in that field
1. One skill that I learned while watching the Lynda.com videos was creating functions in tables to
help calculate averages, sums, products, etc. Learning how to use mathematic functions through
Microsoft Word can not only be helpful but in many cases essential for an accountant to learn. An
example of when this skill would be helpful is when I would need to prepare financial data into a word
document for a financial report. If I mastered this skill I would be able to input financial data into
tables and graphs much faster, which would allow me to spend more time on research and the quality
of my work. This tool is also useful because it shows that unlike many accountants in the industry I
can prove to my company that I am familiar with technology and that I am efficient. Proving that I am
an efficient accountant can be very valuable because many accounting companies especially the Big
Four look for graduates that have a strong accounting background but that are also technologically
adapt. Therefore, it would be in my best interest to expand my

Amelia Earhart Characteristics Of Powerful Women
Characteristics of Powerful Women What do the following household names have in common?
Amelia Earhart, Rosa Parks, and Malala Yousafzai. Describing these women as powerful, strong,
brave, and revolutionary is just the tip of the iceberg. So what exactly makes them this way? Amelia
Earhart was the first female pilot to perform a solo flight across the Atlantic Ocean. Rosa Parks
refused to give in to the racist culture of the 1900 s by refusing to move to the back of the bus. Malala
Yousafzai was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for her defiance of the Taliban and advocacy for female
education. She is the youngest person to ever receive the Nobel Peace Prize. There is no prerequisite
of fame or grand gestures to be a powerful woman. Power is an internal characteristic, not an award

Rejection Doesn t Ruin Them
Fear of rejection is a natural part of life. Rejection is a painful experience for whoever suffers through
it. Being rejected is a common human experience, although some people handle the pain better than
others. A strong woman knows that she needs to take the time to grieve her loss but she does not let it
overwhelm her life. She still will chase her goals, find new opportunities, and learn from her
experiences. When one door closes, another door opens.
3. Honest but not Over Trusting
Lies and dishonesty are a part of life. A strong woman has had her fair share of betrayals to know a
thing or two about trust. She knows that in her orchard, there will always be some bad apples. This
doesn t deter her and she does not try to lie to be different. She is honest about who she is but doesn t
wear her secrets on her sleeve. This characteristic saves her wasted time, money, and heartbreak.
Drama may consume her friends but she stays far away. When she wants to trust someone, she takes

Advantages Of Single-Sex Schools
Arvin Jason T. Cabuay
Draft of the body
Thesis Statement: Single Sex secondary institutions prepares students academically, psychologically
and socially better than Coeducational schools.
2.0 What makes single sex secondary institutions prepare students better academically?
2.1 Same sex teaching
Teachers have various approaches to their students, students react to these approaches differently.
Male teachers use a teaching style that is effective with the male learning system and female teachers
use a teaching style that is appropriate for the learning system of female students. Leading to the result
of students learning effectively when they are being taught by a teacher of the same gender. Herbert
Grossman Suzanne Grossman (1994). In single sex schools, the teacher can focus on the learning
styles of each segender and use the styles to bring out the best academic performance in each student.
Lessons and activities could be made for a specific sex in mind.
2.1.1 According to Herbert Grossman and Suzanne Grossman (1994) Male teachers teaches in a direct

The Use Of Advertising In Advertising
Congresswoman Shirley Chisholm once said when morality comes up against profit, it is seldom that
profit loses. Through the media, the internet, television stations and even newspapers, the world is
surrounded by advertising. Not many people are aware of the intentions behind the execution and
creation of each and every one of those advertisements. The corporate world plays a huge role in the
marketing ploys created to deceive consumers. Using multiple tactics, corporations intentionally
manipulate consumers into buying their products. Corporations will exploit consumers by
manipulating, misleading, confusing or blatantly untrue information through advertisements and
public relations to fuel their profit motive. This paper will analyze how corporations execute this
process while trying to maintain a profitable corporate image. It will cover the multiple types of
brainwashing procedures that corporations use and the strategies used by public relations to avert
critics and non believers through the years. Corporations use a vast majority of propaganda to promote
and advertise their products to the public. Through multiple media sources, corporations maintain a
powerful hold over the attention of everyday consumers. Through using the concept brainwashing
consumers or maintaining a reformed corporate image, corporations continue to manipulate the media
in their favour. During the 20th century, modern public relations, began to emerge in order to change

Why Columbus Day Should Not Be Celebrateding Christopher...
The reason the United States Of America celebrates holidays is because the people or events that have
in some way affected the whole country in a good way. For example the reason why the United States
celebrates Presidents Day is because it is George Washington s birthday and he benefited the country
in the best way possible however, there is a holiday where several Americans feel that it should not be
celebrated which is Columbus Day. Columbus Day should not be celebrated because Christopher
Columbus is not worthy of being commemorated.
Christopher Columbus was born in Genoa,Italy in 1451. He had three brothers and one sister along
with a dad named Dominico and mom named Susanna. He left his father s wool weaving business to
join the Genoese Fleet to sail the Mediterranean Sea. During one of adventures his ship crashed in
Portugal but decided to stay there with his little brother and then began working with a mapmaker. In
the 15th century Portugal desperately needed to find a faster route to Asia so they can have better
trading. Columbus then decided he should be the one to find that new route, but with all the rumors on
which direction is fastest he thought he found Asia but it was actually America.
In August of 1942 Columbus and his men sailed the ships of The Nina, The Pinta, and The Santa
Maria. The first of four trips traveled from Spain all across the Atlantic Ocean. On October 12th he
spotted and landed an island in the name of San Salvador but the natives called

Existential counselling is a philosophical form of counselling which addresses the situation of a
person s life and situates the person firmly within the predictable challenges of the human condition.
Existential counselling considers human living to take place within four dimensions: physical, social,
psychological and spiritual. It shows each of these dimensions to be constituted like a force field,
within which predictable paradoxes, tensions and dilemmas play out. Human beings can learn to deal
with these tensions and conflicts more effectively by facing up to the negatives as well as the positives
of their lives, including the tensions of life and death, love and hate, strength and weakness and

We may even choose actions that cause harm to ourselves or to others. Reflecting on these behaviours,
with the help of a psychologist, gives us insight into the reasons we chose these actions and helps us to
learn from our mistakes and make better choices in the future. You do not need to be an existentialist
to benefit from existential therapy; you need only a desire to be happier and a willingness to reflect
upon how your choices are part of the solution. Existential Therapy is an approach to counselling that
helps us to understand ourselves, other people and the world we all inhabit together. Existential
Therapy helps people to build confidence that they are making good choices. Existential Therapy is
not reserved solely for people who suffer from severe psychological problems; it is for everyone who
is having trouble making a good decision when they experience the kind of challenges issued by life.
Existential Therapy provides an opportunity to explore the world including the dreams, fantasies and
spiritual dimensions of our existence. Talking about it helps to identify dilemmas, develop a strategy
to deal with them and then grow from the experience. Irvin David Yalom, M.D. (born June 13, 1931),

Most contracts are valid despite the fact that they may be only oral. Dan was knowledgeable that Pat
wanted to buy a home, which she was not financially qualified to purchase. Consequently, he offered
to purchase the home and sell it to her, when she had the capital to do so. The statement of Don to Pat,
When you come up with the money, I will sell the home to you for $250,000, plus a fair commission
to be determined , and Pat s search and identification of a suitable home, and Dan s purchase supports
each intent to be bound. In this case, the next week, Pat moved into the house, begins living in it, and
made substantial improvements. The improvement consisted of installing new carpets, window
coverings, and a patio cover. The improvements, spanning a period of six (6) months, amounted to a
cost of $8,000. With respect to a contract, Dan might argue that there was not a contract, or that the
contract was outside the Statue of Frauds. However, any arguments to nullify the Statue of Frauds are
not likely to be successful. In most instances courts attempt to find evidence that this defense is not
supportable. Performance is more relevant in this case. A contract for the sale of real property will be
enforceable if the buyer has taken possession and has made permanent improvements upon it. Of
course, the extent of the improvements required for enforcement varies from jurisdiction

The Millennium Development Goals ( Mdgs ) Essay
The Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) were established in 2000 to determine, focus on and put
into action steps that will fight eight key areas to help underdeveloped countries. The eight targeted
areas which are poverty, education, gender equality, child mortality, maternal health, disease, the
environment and global partnership place attention on areas that will help the improvement and
betterment of underdeveloped countries.
MDGs goals and objectives are clear and concise with a development plan in place to make changes
with underdeveloped and middle income countries. Equally are all eight of the goals, but focusing on
poverty, hunger and child mortality, will bring these two goals to the forefront.
MDGs for poverty and hunger are looking for decreases by half between 1990 and 2015 in the amount
of people in underdeveloped countries who has an income of fewer than $1 per day (UN Department
of Public Health, 2010). Additionally, between the same timeframe, goals are set to decrease by half
the amount of people who experience and suffer from hungriness (UN Department of Public Health,
2010). These goals were put into place in 2000, reviewed in 2015 and an updated plan to target these
goals were set for 2020 (United Nations, 2015). Even though many countries are a part of the MDGs,
practical and reasonable goals and objectives can be met with great emphasis, attention and action.
The MDGs, even though, all goals and objectives are different, they literally all

Critical Thinking Class Analysis
The reason to enroll in the Critical Thinking class was to the fulfill requirements for an Associates
Degree to transfer to a university. I thought the class was just reading and in class writing. As the
professor explained the syllabus I started to feel a little overwhelmed with all the reading, essays and
homework. Writing in the second person was hard to adjust too due to the only writing done was in an
office for the past twenty years. Receiving low grades pushed me to find help starting with the writing

The True Maeaning of Invisiblity
With the title that Ralph Ellison chose for this book one could easily conclude, without even reading
it, that the text is science fiction and deals with the super natural. Upon actually reading it however it
becomes painfully obvious that the main character of Invisible Man is quite visible indeed. Fictional
or not, he is a regular human being made of flesh and bone, and he even says so in the first sentences
of the book. So how can this black man possibly deem himself invisible? Perhaps this nameless
protagonist cannot be blamed completely for this freak occurrence. Maybe the invisibility stems from
a lack of sight of the people (mainly white) around him. Those people allow themselves to be blinded
by the semitransparent veil of stereotypes and racism, causing them not to be able to see the
protagonist/narrator for who he really is. With that being said, the narrator himself still has a part to
play in this so called invisibility. Throughout the story the narrator s actions cause people to see him as
someone he is not. It seems as though every time there is about to be a turning point in the narrator s
life his good ambitions are tampered with by the cruel intentions of those around him.
The genres of this work appear to be African American literature, satire, and in a sense it is a coming
of age kind of story. As such, the story follows the narrator s life during the great migration/Harlem
Renaissance era and has many different locations. It starts off in the

Marketing Plan for Mountain Equipment
Marketing Paper The author of this assignment is asked to provide four major components. The first is
to come up with a new product line that is not already in the Mountain Equipment product array. The
second is to describe the target market for this new product line. The third is to identify two
competitors for the new products and to flesh out how MEC will provide a better option than those
other competitors and the last one will be a brief marketing plan for how MEC might launch the new
product line. Product Marketing Plan Details In looking at the MEC website, there is a clear section
for smartphone compatible devices but the same is not true for tablet devices and that is an obviously
missing link. There are some tablet compatible devices in the smartphone section, but there needs to
be a tablet specific section because tablets are soaring in use and popularity and MEC needs to latch
onto the people that use the Samsung and Apple tablet computers, among other brands like Dell,
Toshiba, Amazon and others. The new product line being suggested here is for MEC to launch a
specific section that sells products specifically designed for or more easy to use and function with on
tablets. Indeed, MEC does not seem to make its own goods. Rather, they market products from
vendors like Garmin and such when it comes to consumer electronics. No need to reinvent the wheel
on that, but there needs to be a clear section for tablet computers and the smartphone specific goods

Essay on Evolution Embedded in Symbols
Evolution Embedded in Symbols
Two billion years ago two prokaryotes bumped into each other and formed the first multi cellular
organism. 65 million years ago an asteroid hit the earth and dinosaurs became extinct. Three days ago,
in your notebook you drew a mess of squiggles which to you represented Jackson Pollock s painting,
Number 1, 1948. You wrote the word entropy on the upper left hand corner of the page. On the bottom
right hand side you wrote, Creativity is based on randomness and chance.
This paper is, in part, an exploration of the pictures and words that we place in notebooks; it is an
investigation of the human fixation with the creation of symbols via art and writing. But is also about
how the symbols drawn in one s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In her book, On Beauty and Being Just, Elaine Scarry states that beauty incites replication (4). Like a
history of evolution, a history of human symbolic representation is heavily dependent on the act of
reproduction. This reproduction has manifested itself quite literally. For example, when a painter finds
something in nature to be beautiful, she can reproduce it on the canvas and when a writer finds a
moment to be inspiring, she can transcribe the moment into a set of instructions [i.e. words] about how
[a reader] can imagine or construct [that moment] (Dreaming by the Book, Scarry, 6). Like sexual
reproduction which allows organisms to share their genetic material in order to continue species and to
create new organisms, pictures and words help with a lateral transfer of cultural information, its
continuance and recombination. To create a symbol of something with a string of words or with an art
material is to perpetuate that which is beautiful for future generations.
According to Dennett, before there were words, there were no word meanings, even if there were
other sorts of meanings. (402) Dennett s hypothesis reminds us, at the most basic level that symbols
mean something. To say that there are only a couple of meanings behind all artwork and writing would
be to deny the complexity of the human symbol making and

A Career as a Psychologist Essay
Psychologists are very important people; they help millions of people with their everyday struggles
and problems that they have to deal with. Not only do psychologists help people with problems that
they cannot handle on their own, they also are scientists who study human minds and behaviors. With
being a psychologist, there are many different careers to choose from within this profession (Explore
Health Careers). The first type of psychologists to choose from is a clinical psychologist. Clinical
psychologists help people with counseling and psychotherapy. They work with people who have all

Next is an organization psychologist, which helps in the productivity of groups and individuals in a
workplace. These types of psychologists focus on improving the function of organizations, and to keep
individuals healthy within the organization (Psyris). Another type of psychology to choose from is a
counseling psychologist. These are important psychologists because they teach people how to deal
with their everyday problems. They help their patients determine their problems and help them
understand the problems they are facing. Not only do counseling psychologists help their patients with
the issues they are experiencing at home but also in their workplace or their community in general. By
helping their patients identify their strengths and resources, is how counseling psychologists help them
with their problems (Bureau of Labor Statistics). The next type of psychology is the developmental
psychologist. Developmental psychologists work with psychological processes and development that
takes place throughout life. They study aging and problems the elderly may face, but this type of
psychologist mainly focuses on children and adolescents (Bureau of Labor Statistics). The last type of
psychologist to choose from is the social

Essay On Types Of Robots
4. Types Of Robots
Robotics is a very wide and broad area, as it comprises of different fields and has been adapted by
many professional bodies including defense, medicine, agriculture, automobile, aeronautics, etc. This
is why there are no specific types of robots. Hence, we cannot categorically say these are the types of
robots because types of robots are measured in terms of their use, functions, environment and location
system they possess [14, 17, 34]. Thus, here are the basic types of robots viz: Stationary robots,
wheeled robots, legged robots, Vehicle robots, Cloud robots, and Nano robots.
A. Stationary Robots
These are types of robots which are considered static, meaning they do not move or change position
during operation. Some of them include surgical robots which are often found in hospitals. Another

Wheeled Robots
These types of robots are said to be locomotive in nature. They change their position with the help of
wheels, which make it easier for them to move from one place to another. Some of their examples
include single wheel robots, two wheel, and military robots and so on.
C. Legged robots
These robots are considered the most complex and sophisticated when it comes to locomotion. They
are also known as mobile robots as they can move from place to place on a very quick speed. They are
often characterized by having legs and arms which support their movement or allow them to get up
when they fall down. The most common legged robots in this category are the popular humanoid
robots, military robots, and domestic or household robots [34].
D. Vehicle Robots
This category of robot is considered as one of the largest of all, they include those robots which cover
far distance. They have such locomotive components that could endure any kind of environment, be it
rocky areas, deserts, water or even space. Example of these robots include

Italian Boys at Fort Missoula, An Alien Place, Imprisoned Apart, and The Historical Museum at Fort
Missoula discuss treatment of Japanese Americans interned at Fort Missoula. Italian Boys discusses it
from the perspective of an Italian internee. He saw no difference in behavior towards Italians versus
Japanese Americans. He believed the Italians received fair treatment, therefore so did the Japanese
Americans, which contrasts other sources. An Alien Place provides an all around view on how the
Japanese Americans were treated and why. Imprisoned Apart focuses on the joys and sorrows felt by

For starters, because there were teenagers at Heart Mountain, there was a high school for their
education. According to Mamoru Inouye, students at the high school were able to compete against
area high schools and treated well by opponents. There were even Japanese Americans on other teams
that were not interned since it was not the west coast. Caucasian teachers at Heart Mountain quickly
cycled through because of poor government handling of the school. Consequently, Japanese American
teachers were not paid as well as their Caucasian counterparts (58 60). Secondly, many internees had
jobs, though their pay was low. Money made at these jobs could be used to buy essentials in camp
stores (Bent). The third difference was food quality. At first, the food was terrible at Heart Mountain.
However, it improved and it was discovered people working in administration had stolen food
intended for internees (Bent). Finally, the government considered internees for the draft. Officials
devised two questions to determine their eligibility: (1) if they were willing to renounce loyalty to the
Japanese emperor and (2) if they were loyal to the U.S. Many people answered no to these questions
due to their resentment of getting their rights

A Darker Shade of Magic , written by V.E. Schwab, tells the story of a Kell, an antari someone who is
able to cast magic using blood. In Kell s world, there are multiple Londons grey, red, white, and black.
Kell uses his magic to travel between these worlds, which have relatively the same structure but are
wildly different, especially in the amount of magic and the way it is handled. One day, when Kell is
out and about doing work for the royal family of Red London (the London he belongs to), he falls into

It doesn t receive a higher score for two main reasons: the pacing and characters. The plot of this book
is quite simple, and can be summarized while using only a short number of sentences. Scenes in the
book move slowly, though it never seems to drag on. The writing style makes up for the lack in pace,
which covers it up nicely. Also, I didn t enjoy the characters as much as I could, though it didn t
necessarily make me not like the book. My main problem character wise was with Lila, a no nonsense,
tough girl that prefers to dress androgynously. She is a paragon of stereotypes pickpocket, strong
willed and boyish. The way she acts is quite predictable, and I knew the moment she was introduced
that she would be kissing Kell by halfway through the book. I was proved correct, much to my
dismay. Also, the main antagonists, Astrid and Athos Dane, were only characterised by cruelty and
villainy. They are powerful with their magic and use it to do terrible things, but with no motive other
than magic equals power . It s understandable, but could be fleshed out a bit more. One thing I did
enjoy about them was the problem that they posed. It s a very realistic one for Kell to face considering
the setting, and proved However, when casting all this aside, A Darker Shade of Magic really is
actually quite enjoyable of a read. I would definitely recommend it to those who take

The Sudanese Dispute after the Split
Less than a year after Sudan divided into new Republic of South Sudan and the new Republic of
North Sudan the both countries get involved in conflict. The years of efforts by the international
community to put an end to this prolong conflict by assisting, negotiating and signing of the
Comprehensive Peace Agreement CPA in 2005 and the other effort to guarantee the downy division of
the South and North come in to view to become naught. According to CPA referendum in January

South and North were supposed to discuss pivotal issue to ensure that by the time the in July when the

The Republic of the South was internally divided, incompetence, insecure to involve in a thriving

How Is Offred Presented In The Handmaid s Tale
Offred Offred is the protagonist and narrator of the The Handmaid s Tale . As one of the rare fertile
women in this dystopian world, she is put at the bottom of the social hierarchy as a Handmaid, where
her sole purpose is to provide children for the Commander and his Wife. Despite being the
protagonist, Offred is a passive character who generally conforms to the social stereotypes in Gilead
due to her cowardice. Despite this, there are some moments where the reader is able to acknowledge
the degree of power she holds within this society. According to critic Coral Ann Howells, those at the
bottom don t have power , yet Carol L. Beran argues that they have some kind of special power , and
indeed, Offred is not completely powerless in Gileadean society. All women in Gilead have a
modicum of power, and Offred is no exception. She gains her power through her biology and
sexuality, because men in Gilead are not allowed a woman until they become an Angel, a high position
in the social hierarchy. Offred s power is often hidden or oppressed by the system the Sons of Jacob
have created. This is seen when Offred says doubled, I walk down the street (Atwood) when
recounting the experience of shopping with her partner, Ofglen. Here, Offred is literally doubled due
to Ofglen walking alongside her in identical clothing, which could suggest the lack of power due to
the loss of identity. This also illustrates how the Sons of Jacob attempt women from using their power
by using them as

Lucknow, the land of Nawabs and Kebabs we have heard this phrase about a million times from
people around us . I visited Lucknow last month and seriously there is much more to Lucknow other
than the Kebabs. Lucknow has evolved drastically with time. It is one of the largest and fastest

cultures and religions. People from various regions have migrated to this big city with the dream of a
better life. The cuisine of Lucknow is a reflection of this. There is 100% no doubt that there is no

are challenging the dominance of various food brands in Lucknow. These food stalls are catering to all
the sections I.e from foodies to health freaks at very pocket friendly rates . They are serving comfort
food with a twist . These food stalls have become a rave among the masses. I started my search for

The Island Is Small, The North Shore Is Part Of A Huge...
Although Staten Island is small, the North Shore is part of a huge project coming up. Next to the Saint
George Terminal, Richard Marin is looking to create the Empire Outlets, and the New York Wheel, a
630 foot tall Ferris wheel. When Marin started discussing the development project, he already had
nearly 200 million dollars set, however, still needed to work out how he was going to get the other 300
million dollars (Hughes, 2015). An article in the New York Post, written by Associated Press (2014),
explains that the main goal of this reconstruction is to make Staten Island a place for tourism. The
article discusses the fact that millions of people ride the ferry, which is already a main tourist
attraction. However, the tourist are not spending any money or time on the Island because they are all
going into Manhattan. The goal of the ferris wheel and the shopping complex being created, is to keep
tourist occupied during their stay (Press, 2014). Although Staten Island is already over populated and
bringing in more people will have the area feeling congested, this is an ideal way of employing
hundreds of people. The New York City Economic Development Corporation, states that this project is
expecting to create at least four hundred construction jobs and four hundred permanent jobs,
ultimately helping the economy grow. Not only is this attraction for the two million tourist who ride
the ferry every year, it will be a place for people from Staten Island and New Jersey to

Dormant Commerce Clause Analysis
By the state of Pennsylvania prohibiting individuals and businesses outside out PA from purchasing
PA internet, PA violates the Dormant Commerce Clause. The Dormant Commerce Clause affects state
laws that might implicate the Federal Commerce power. The first question under the Dormant
Commerce Clause is whether Congress has taken some action that might override or preempt State
action under the Supremacy Clause; any validly enacted federal law will trump any state law. That
does not seem to be the case here. Then we have to determine whether the statute at issue is
discriminatory against interstate commerce. When a state regulates non discriminatorily for the
achievement of a legitimate local purpose that affects interstate commerce, the state ... Show more

In Maine, where the state(Maine) prohibited the importation of live baitfish to protect fisherman from
parasites and other species. Maine s law was not unconstitutional, as it did not put a burden on
interstate commerce. The court held that the limitation imposed by the commerce clause on state
regulatory power was not absolute and that states had the authority under their police powers to
regulate matters of legitimate local concern. The Maine statute served a legitimate purpose that could
not be served by non discriminatory alternative. In this case, becoming the cutting edge and hip cool
state does not allow business and individuals to purchase the internet would defeat the state s purpose
of being the hip cool cutting edge state. Allowing individuals and companies to purchase the PA
internet would serve the purpose of raising state revenue. PA is a part of the tri state area; therefore,
students, commuters, visitors, and everyone who is not a resident of PA will not be able to gain access.
The PA regulation will evidentially work against the state of PA. There is an exception, states as
market participants can discrimination against out of staters. This occurs when the state is acting in the
market, like a business or customer, rather than as a market regulator. PA may make the same
argument made in South Central Timber(SCT). In SCT, Alaska required the buyers of Alaskan timber

Trancendentalism in The Call of the Wild, by Jack London...
This need for transcendentality is real and strong, especially in the two novels The Call of the Wild, by
Jack London and Into the Wild by Jon Krakauer. Transcendentalism is the belief that thought and
spiritual experience is more important than everyday experiences and material belongings. The main
character in the call of the wild is buck, a dog forced into trancendality as he was kidnapped and
handed a brutal northern life. The main character in Into the wild is Chris McCandless, a young man
who chooses the call of nature over modern society, also demonstrating transcendentalism. The
protagonists, Chris McCandless and Buck, exhibit their transcendentality in conflicting yet converging

Chris goes to live in alaska in a final attempt to purify his ideological views by indulging in nature and
spurning society. The transformation in Buck caused by his transcendental turn is almost totally
positive. At the beginning of the novel he was soft, pampered, and mentally inactive. The Big Read,
an internet site which provides a wonderful overview of The Call of the Wild, brings to light, In
addition to cunning, patience, and strength, Buck s greatest quality allows him to fight by both
cunning and insight. (Call of the Wild 1). With this newfound ability to fight and evade tough
situations, Buck buys the time to learn the ways of the north completely, eventually surpassing the
dogs around him. The only negative effect this had on Buck was that his moral nature quickly
deteriorated. This was necessary. Without the ability to be transcendental, Buck could not have
survived his new environment.
Chris McCandless s transcendental experience was both positive and negative depending on which
party is being asked. Chris believed that his experience as a whole was unsurpassable to an extent, that

to be in the wild. However, the friends, family and acquaintances who had met Chris try to find reason

The Effects Of Alcoholism On The Individual Health
When talking about alcoholism, we have to take into consideration all of the effects that the alcohol
use and misuse have, not only on the individual and its family but on the whole society as well. More
or less people drink because they want to socialize and some people drink because they think that with
the alcohol they will recover a solution or make their problems easier. Alcohol can have big
implications on the individual health. The individual that is an alcoholic or that has alcohol related
problems can be more prone to different diseases. If the alcohol is used constantly for a long period of
time it can harm not only the physical but the mental health as well. The individual using alcohol can
become aggressive and violent towards the family. The household may also suffer not just physical but
a mental abuse as well. The individual with an alcohol related problem may start being absent from
work more frequently, having a lack of productivity, be more easily annoyed and begin arguing with
coworkers or superiors. This may lead to losing the occupation and create even bigger troubles with
the family, friends, and the vicinity. From this being said, there is a big burden on the society as well.

and so many other problems that the society has to deal with. Every society, country, nation is

Role Of Social Media Within The Online Community
CHAPTER 2 Literature Review The domain of sentiment analysis has witnessed a growth of
substantial research. Even though there were some attempts to study sentiment analysis previously, the
growing interest in the research area came up as a result of the eruption of user generated data in
online discussion forums and reviews and most especially social media. According to Pang and Lee
(2008), the research of sentiment analysis can be broadly classified into two main areas: research
investigating the polarity of subjective text and research evaluating the objectivity of subjectivity of
textual entities. The following section provides a literature review on the role of social media within
the online community. Next, an overview of sentiment analysis is discussed, twitter sentiment

Similarities Between Rome And Rome
Carthage s ideas and civilization was one which the Phoenicians had developed in the east. She
became powerful due to trade and commercial supremacy. The trading colonies of northern Africa and
many Greek cities of Sicily were under her control. Carthage was a wealthy merchant country, trading
in metals; gold, silver, tin, and iron, as well as all the products of both the east and the west. (Morey,
1901) Rome and Carthage and Rome had similar governments. Rome had its consuls and Carthage
had two chief magistrates. Similar to the Roman senate Carthage had a council of elders, called the
hundred . Rome was more democratic, whereas Carthage was more aristocratic. For the most part
Carthage was ruled by a few wealthy aristocrats. Possibly Carthage s greatest advantage over Rome
was the fact that Carthage had one permanent leader of their army. Rome had civil magistrates who
changed over time. That lack of consistent leadership of the army was a great disadvantage to Rome s
ability to wage war and defend itself. (Morey, 1901) Compared to Rome, Carthage had more wealth,
but Rome was more organized. Rome had a powerful army and Carthage had the more powerful navy.
The secret to Rome s success was their loyal citizens. During war if Rome needed ships, the citizens
put up their own money to pay for the necessary resources. Carthage s biggest ... Show more content

The ships that the Romans had were triremes and the Carthaginians had a fleet of quinquiremes. The
difference between the two was the number of rows of oars. The quinquiremes had 5 rows of oars and
the Roman triremes had only three. Roman soldiers trained to row the quinquiremes at the same time
they were building a hundred 5 rowed vessels. Since the Romans were better at hand to hand combat,
the Romans put drawbridges on their ships so they could pull alongside the enemy s vessel and cross
over and attack the Carthaginians on their decks. (Morey,

African American Implicit Attitudes
Based on the survey, my results did not mirror my expected attitudes. My results of the survey
exemplified that I give moderate autonomic preference to European American over African
Americans. I believe that is not really true because I give equal importance to everyone. I don t judge
a person based on his/her color. I treat everyone equally whether the person is black, white or brown. I
have a lot of friends from different races such as Asians, African Americans and Mexicans. Finally,
my attitude toward everyone is equal. The IAT results measure implicit attitudes and stereotypes
towards a group of people. They also measure the bonding between the associations and concepts. For
example, I was quick at categorizing when both European Americans ... Show more content on

You need to make it clear that you genuinely enjoy the role of assisting, Think of specific examples in
your employment history that illustrate that you are attentive and that patient comfort and satisfaction
are your priority.
A Dental Assistant s duties can vary from practice to practice but fundamentally you are there to
facilitate the work of the Dentist and ensure that patients are attended to not only professionally by
compassionately. Many people are terrified of visiting their Dentist so think of instances where you
have treated a patient with empathy and helped them feel at ease.
A clear way of offering support to a patient is by showing that you have an excellent character and are
well educated. Patients are best comforted by Dental Assistants who are good hearted and genuinely
caring. Being attentive with patients includes offering them assistance to sit in the chair if necessary
and keeping the patients mouth dry so that the dentist can carry out their work.
Ensuring that you have an in depth knowledge of dental procedures will not only assist the Dentist but
also impress the patient. During your interview you should make it clear that you are willing to learn
new skills which will enhance your ability to perform your duties. Many assistants carry out x rays,
dental impressions and cleaning. Remember that newly acquired skills can be added to your
curriculum and many Dental Assistants acquire valuable knowledge on the job.

School Is Bad For Children By John Holt
This nation s best and strongest leaders attended school as children. Leaders such as John F. Kennedy
and Franklin D. Roosevelt ( School House to White House ). Can their success as leaders be attributed
to school? Or would they have been successful without that education? School is where they were
inspired and pushed to their limits. The challenges of studying various subjects, completing
homework, forming new ideas, participating in extracurricular activities, and making friends are part
of the common heritage of an American education shared by everyone including our Presidents (
School House to White House ). In John Holt s School is Bad for Children Holt makes a plea to free
children from the classroom (Preface). He outlines several ways that America s education system is
harming children and introduces several ways he believes it can be improved. Although Holt makes a
few logical arguments, his essay lacks credibility and his ideas to abolish school attendance, to always
have paired learning, and to end fixed curriculum (leave much to be argued)
Holt makes several assumptions and talks of schools that do certain things but he never uses evidence
to back up what he says. This makes his essay less credible because it is only written from his
experiences and his opinion. Holt says, In a school I know of... (Holt 75), ... a number of schools...
(Holt 75), and In many schools... he can t even talk to them at lunch (Holt 73). Who are these schools?

To begin with, Niamh was Vivian s original name. Niamh was a child, who had a family that
immigrated to Ireland. Niamh experienced the death of what she thought was every family member,
she was mourning that loss for as long as she had that name. Niamh was put into the Children s Aid
Society that put her onto the orphan train and placed her with the Byrnes family. Niamh was still
innocent and had no idea the mistreatment she would face. Niamh says as she reaches Minnesota, how
strange, I think that I am in a place my parents have never been and will never see. How strange that I
am here and they are gone. I touch the Claddagh cross around my neck (Kline 62.) Her saying this
expresses how Niamh is longing for comfort and has yet to reach the realization that she has become
undesirable. She still acts as if she is unsuspecting and innocent.
As soon as Niamh was adopted by the Byrnes family, they found her name too foreign and difficult so

  • 3. Kenya s Agriculture And Economics Of Kenya Most people correlate Kenya to long distance runners, of the beginning of man, its plethora of wildlife, and maybe Barack Obama. However, what they may have not contemplated was Kenya s agriculture and how it has affected the culture and economics of Kenya. Tea, coffee, sisal, pyrethrum, corn, and wheat are grown in the fertile highlands, one of the most successful agricultural production regions in Africa. Production is mainly on small African owned farms formed from the division of formerly European owned estates. Coffee in Kenya is big business, but it is grown mainly on small farms by farmer s co ops working together. Looking into Kenya s past will help to clarify how coffee became an agricultural commodity, and give insight into its beginnings. Before outsiders came into Africa, the country now known as Kenya, was a nomadic area inhabited by Cushite people. It was not until the first century B.C. when Arabic people came to the area as traders. They soon began to colonize areas along the coast of the Indian Ocean. Also in the first century the Bantu began to settle areas inland from the coast. It took Europeans over fourteen hundred more years to make their way to Kenya. Kenya was now under the rule of the Portuguese. From the sixteenth until the nineteenth century Kenya was an Islamic state, then it became a British colony. It was in the 19th century when an eastern area of Africa becomes Kenya. In 1888, Kenya comes under British rule, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The same apply for Stonehenge, pyramids, and many other ancients structures. Stonehenge is one of the oldest unsolved mysteries in the world. The ancient stone is located in Wiltshire, England. English Heritage organization is the responsible for looking after the monuments included with the Stonehenge. People always ask how come a monument was built before 3000 B.C. with naked hands. In this paper, the history of Stonehenge and most common myths of Stonehenge will be discussed in brief lines. Then, what the author thinks Stonehenge was built for would be discussed. Stonehenge history is one of the unsolved mystery by itself because the size of the stones. 3000 B.C. was a rough age that s the people didn t had the technology to carry these rocks. Researchers found that the gigantic stone used to build Stonehenge were brought from different area. The assumption is that the stones were carried and brought from somewhere else not close. This means there are very limited cultural influences of the contestants and we, as viewers, get to see firsthand the actions and the thoughts of the contestants. Psychology is the scientific study of behaviour and mental processes, and survivor provides a prime real life example for us to do this. I just want to get it out there now that I think Keith should ve won, however, I think Jeremy is still a very worthy winner. There were several ways that players chose to outwit, outlast, and outplay this season that can all be illustrated by psychological principles. Examples of these include: Hindsight bias, ... • 7. Impact Of Black Friday Impact of Black Friday on Society We already know that the Black Friday is an American tradition that consists of a drop in prices in major stores, during the last Friday of November, coinciding with the opening of Christmas shopping. But what is the origin of this celebration? The first use of the term Black Friday occurred not to refer to Christmas shopping, but in relation to an economic crisis: on Friday, September 24, 1869, two relentless Wall Street financiers, Jay Gould and Jim Fisk, After an intense work to obtain great benefits, they failed in their efforts, and the market went bankrupt. For that reason, that day was named as the Black Friday . Another of the stories that accompany the term Black Friday has to do with the role of small businesses in the market. Tradition has it that, after a whole year of losses, finally, after Thanksgiving, the Christmas season arrived, the day from which the benefits began, and with them, instead of red numbers, black numbers were produced. Others claim that its origin dates back to November 19, 1975, the day in which the New York Times first coined the adjective black to refer to the disorder of the traffic and the chaos that had occurred in the city of Nueva York in that year, due to discounts the day after Thanksgiving. The tradition is indeed a positive practice for the economy of a country, simultaneously, gives the possibility to millions of hard workers to recover their lost through the year, and to ... In the early days of exploration and colonization, French, Spanish, Dutch, and German were as common as English. No doubt many of the inhabitants were conversant in more than two languages. Underlining the importance of the bilingual education in United States there are many different types of educational programs that exist for emergent bilinguals. The historical concept of these programs shows the shift from a focus on the home language and toward English only instruction. As Ovando (2003) writes The 18th and 19th century responses to language diversity were shaped by changing localized political, social, and economic forces rather than by any systematic ideas about language itself (p. 4). 1700s to the 1880s were a time frame where a fair amount of tolerance neglect existed toward the many languages. 1880s were the turning point in the historical development of linguistic and restrictions in immigration policy. Civil Rights Act Title VI and Bilingual Education Act Title VII are two examples of the rebirth of bilingual education. Civil Rights Act Title VI prohibits discrimination based on race, color, and national origin, prohibits denial of equal access to education due to limited English proficiency. Bilingual Education Act Title VII recognizes the unique educational disadvantages faced by non English speaking students, establish a federal policies to assist educational agencies, to serve students with limited ... Cultural Impacts Of Globalization ABSTRACT Globalization can be defined as a system of interaction or increasing global relationships between cultures, people, and economic activities among the countries of the world. Globalization in its simpler form refers to conglomerate exchange of languages, ideas, and cultures. Behaviour or impacts of Globalization differ from country to country having a demarcation between developed countries like Britain and developing countries. Some critics allege that it has been footing down the cultural values and increasing conflicts between two nations. Globalization is a double edged sword as it impacts and affects all generations of people, economically, politically, environmentally, and culturally. While Globalization has its benefits millions of people around the world are now more empowered because of global interconnectedness there are still many problems that can and already have risen from cultural and economic development around the world KEYWORDS: globalisation, environment, opportunity. INTRODUCTION The historical origin of the process of Globalization is debatable as in common usage refers to late twentieth century but some scholars regard it as having ancient history. One can confirm this by observing the trade patterns between the empires in ancient times. The Renaissance movement slowly overshadowed the Gothic and Italo Byzantine characteristics that dominated Medieval Europe in favor of the resurgence of classical antiquity. Late fourteenth to early fifteenth century artwork exemplified the development of Greco Roman naturalism the increased piety of Italians evident on the heavy demand for devotional images, and the expanding consciousness of philosophical and scholastic abstractions relating to the natural world. The frames of both paintings are gold and ornate, but more importantly, both have the same phrases engraved below the painting. Ave Maria Gratia Plena are the words of Catholic devotional prayer typically spoken with rosary beads, and directed towards the Virgin Mary. Personal devotions became an increasingly common practice during the late 1340 s, following the proliferation of the Black Death especially within populated Italian cities (Gardner, p.406). Responding to the growing fervor for the Bible, artists receive many commissions to conceive biblical legends into reality. The Madonna and Christ child in both Strauss Madonna and Virgin and Child convey an allegorical and symbolistic representation of Resurrection: the parallel of the sacrifice of the Christ s body to the suffering of humans. Jesus Christ s suffering through crucifiction and physical worldly suffering. Despite the celestial backgrounds and striking halos, Master of Straus Madonna and Romano illustrates these venerated idols as humans. Tale dictates that a goldfinch received a red spot from the blood of Jesus after pulling a thorn from his head as he approached closer to the time of his crucifixion. The goldfinch held by infant Christ serves as a reminder that God lived as a man and died as a man, and a consolation to the audience that suffering and death will lead to human ... • 12. Difference Between Working Class And Poor Mothers For working class and poor mothers, intensive mothering and consumerism are still equally linked to their view of themselves as good mothers. The only difference between working class and poor mothers versus middle and upper class women is that the working class/poor have to work harder to attain the good mother status. According to Takseva (2014), Children can be used as an object of display conferring the desired social status (p.224) and, Membership in a group is often defined through the purchasing of goods and services (p.225). Therefore, mothers who do not present their children in the best clothes or toys are seen as bad mothers, so mothers of the lower classes have to work harder to ascribe their children the same status as the children in upper classes. Many working class mothers experience guilt that due to the lack of financial resources they are not being good mothers because they cannot provide their children with the same life chances that they would if they had more money (Takseva, 2014, p.227). These mothers find alternative strategies to define themselves as good mothers such as knowing where and when to shop for bargains, and actively engaging their children into understanding what products can/cannot be purchased so that they have realistic expectations (Takseva, 2014, p.227). However, on the other extreme intensive mothering is so prevalent in today s society that, Parents will go against their better judgment about budgets, in the case of ... • 13. HTML5 And The Future Of Technical Documentation HTML5 and the Future of Technical Documentation By: Jessica Morley May 2015 Introduction: A Crossroad in History T echnical writing is at a crossroad in history. Gone are the days when people read technical documentation from print in manuals, books, inserts, or pamphlets. Likewise, the practice of reading documentation from a CD Rom or desktop software application is quickly becoming a thing of the past. Today, if people want technical information, they go straight to their browsers to find what they re looking for. With the advent of handheld smart phones, laptops, and tablets, teamed with the ubiquity of reliable internet connection everywhere, people demand versatile, responsive, and accessible documentation that can meet their information needs. HTML5, the new HTML standard officially recommended in October 2014, is the World Wide Web Consortium s (W3C s) answer to this new age of high speed on demand information, and technical writers are beginning to take notice. However, the question remains: should technical writers adapt to this new wave of technology, and if so, to what extent will HTML5 impact the user experience and the technical writing process? There are a growing number of technical writers who are just shy of entirely enthusiastic for this brave new world of technology. Peter Lubbers, an experienced technical writer, published author, and current Senior Program Manager at Google, is one such individual who may tip the scale on the enthusiasm ... An Accounting degree also opens up many doors in the business world, which can help me achieve my goal of becoming a CFO or CEO. 2. One skill that I learned while watching the Lynda.com videos was creating functions in tables to help calculate averages, sums, products, etc. Learning how to use mathematic functions through Microsoft Word can not only be helpful but in many cases essential for an accountant to learn. An example of when this skill would be helpful is when I would need to prepare financial data into a word document for a financial report. If I mastered this skill I would be able to input financial data into tables and graphs much faster, which would allow me to spend more time on research and the quality of my work. This tool is also useful because it shows that unlike many accountants in the industry I can prove to my company that I am familiar with technology and that I am efficient. The True Maeaning of Invisiblity With the title that Ralph Ellison chose for this book one could easily conclude, without even reading it, that the text is science fiction and deals with the super natural. Upon actually reading it however it becomes painfully obvious that the main character of Invisible Man is quite visible indeed. Fictional or not, he is a regular human being made of flesh and bone, and he even says so in the first sentences of the book. So how can this black man possibly deem himself invisible? Perhaps this nameless protagonist cannot be blamed completely for this freak occurrence. Maybe the invisibility stems from a lack of sight of the people (mainly white) around him. Those people allow themselves to be blinded by the semitransparent veil of stereotypes and racism, causing them not to be able to see the protagonist/narrator for who he really is. With that being said, the narrator himself still has a part to play in this so called invisibility. Throughout the story the narrator s actions cause people to see him as someone he is not. It seems as though every time there is about to be a turning point in the narrator s life his good ambitions are tampered with by the cruel intentions of those around him. Like a history of evolution, a history of human symbolic representation is heavily dependent on the act of reproduction. This reproduction has manifested itself quite literally. For example, when a painter finds something in nature to be beautiful, she can reproduce it on the canvas and when a writer finds a moment to be inspiring, she can transcribe the moment into a set of instructions [i.e. words] about how [a reader] can imagine or construct [that moment] (Dreaming by the Book, Scarry, 6). Like sexual reproduction which allows organisms to share their genetic material in order to continue species and to create new organisms, pictures and words help with a lateral transfer of cultural information, its continuance and recombination. To create a symbol of something with a string of words or with an art material is to perpetuate that which is beautiful for future generations. According to Dennett, before there were words, there were no word meanings, even if there were other sorts of meanings. As one of the rare fertile women in this dystopian world, she is put at the bottom of the social hierarchy as a Handmaid, where her sole purpose is to provide children for the Commander and his Wife. Despite being the protagonist, Offred is a passive character who generally conforms to the social stereotypes in Gilead due to her cowardice. Despite this, there are some moments where the reader is able to acknowledge the degree of power she holds within this society. According to critic Coral Ann Howells, those at the bottom don t have power , yet Carol L. Beran argues that they have some kind of special power , and indeed, Offred is not completely powerless in Gileadean society. All women in Gilead have a modicum of power, and Offred is no exception. She gains her power through her biology and sexuality, because men in Gilead are not allowed a woman until they become an Angel, a high position in the social hierarchy. Offred s power is often hidden or oppressed by the system the Sons of Jacob have created. This is seen when Offred says doubled, I walk down the street (Atwood) when recounting the experience of shopping with her partner, Ofglen. School is where they were inspired and pushed to their limits. The challenges of studying various subjects, completing homework, forming new ideas, participating in extracurricular activities, and making friends are part of the common heritage of an American education shared by everyone including our Presidents ( School House to White House ).
